Manoj Bajpayee Recounts How Amitabh Bachchan Nearly Gave Him Heart Attack At 85 Feet

by jummy84 November 17, 2025
written by jummy84

In a surprising confession on Kaun Banega Crorepati 17, actor Manoj Bajpayee revealed that Amitabh Bachchan once gave him a serious scare, “killed me,” in his words, while filming a stunt nearly 85 feet high. The anecdote has since sparked curiosity, laughter, and admiration for the veteran’s playful yet intense energy.

During the show, Manoj described how the stunt was supposed to be straightforward: they would be harnessed and suspended mid-air, replicating a fall. Because of his fear of heights, Manoj was already tense. The action director tried to calm him: “Close your eyes, I’ll be there, Amit ji will be holding your hand,” he recalled being told.

But once he reached around 80-85 feet, things took a turn. According to Manoj, Bachchan suddenly called out to him in a low voice: “Manoj, kuch ho jaye toh Jaya ko bol dena” — telling him to inform his wife Jaya Bachchan if anything went wrong. Hearing that, Manoj said he panicked even more. “I was already very scared,” he told Big B, according to the promo. “Aur phir aapne kaha, ‘Sach mein ghar pe mere khabar kar dena’.”

The tension in the moment was not just physical: Manoj joked that the whole sequence felt like a “planned mission” to terrify him. “The whole thing was planned — to take me up there, to prank me,” he said.

Bajpayee didn’t sugarcoat how intense the moment was. “Inhone meri jaan le li thi,” he said — “he took my life.” His raw honesty and humor won laughs from fellow guests Jaideep Ahlawat and Sharib Hashmi, but the underlying sentiment was serious.

The story is evocative of a deeper bond between the two actors, one that goes beyond admiration. For a man like Manoj, known for his grounded screen presence and credibility, this tale of physical fear and emotional vulnerability offers a rare, vulnerable glimpse into his dynamic with Big B — the superstar he respects deeply.

It is also a tribute to Bachchan’s larger-than-life persona, and his own penchant for playful theatrics. The prank was not malicious; it was, in Manoj’s recollection, a moment of powerful jest — and perhaps a reflection of the trust between them.

As the KBC episode rolls out, the story is resonating with audiences for its blend of warmth, shock, and nostalgia. Viewers are reminded that even the biggest stars among us have layers — and sometimes, a joke from Amitabh can rattle you in ways you didn’t expect.

Raj & DK Open Up About Manoj Bajpayee and Jaideep Ahlawat’s Clash in The Family Man 3

by jummy84 November 13, 2025
written by jummy84

The Family Man is officially coming back with its third season and we will once again see Manoj Bajpayee reprise his role as the fan-favourite spy, Srikant Tiwari. However, this season will see him face more challenges as he is on the verge of getting arrested!

This return marks another milestone for its creators, Raj & DK, also known for Farzi and Citadel Honey Bunny. The new season promises to be the biggest and most challenging yet, not just professionally for Srikant but also in terms of the show’s setting.

This time, Srikant’s mission moves eastward, into unfamiliar terrain and dangerous new territory. Speaking about the meticulous planning and the long-anticipated arc, Krishna DK shared, “It’s been building up for a while, and we’ve put our hearts into it. We had already announced at the end of season two that the North-East is where we want to go with the next season. So we were clear about that. The location, the people, and the culture are all part of the DNA of the show, whichever season you pick. Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and all these places in season three, you need that energy from the place.”

The core of the excitement, however, lies in the intense rivalry that the creators have cooked up for Srikant this time around. Season 3 brings a monumental clash of talent, featuring a high-octane face-off that is already sending fan anticipation soaring.

Family Man

Sharing his enthusiasm for the clash between Manoj Bajpayee’s Srikant and Jaideep Ahlawat’s Rukma in the new season Raj Nidimoru expressed, “Manoj and Jaideep are coming together, two stalwarts of Indian cinema. Really top actors.” Jaideep Ahlawat’s antagonist, Rukma, is designed as a dark reflection of our beloved TASC agent. His character presents a threat that is deeply personal and ideologically opposite to Srikant, pushing him to his absolute limit. Raj further elaborated on this compelling character parallel, noting, “Rukma became the main character, the main antagonist, where he is almost the opposite of Srikant; he also has a girlfriend and a kid, a sort of a ‘non-family’ family.”

The Family Man 3 also stars Sharib Hashmi and Priyamani among others. The third season will start streaming globally on Prime Video from November 21.

Actor Gulshan Devaiah recently shared how he found inspiration in legendary actors like Manoj Bajpayee and Irrfan Khan during his early years. He spoke about how Manoj Bajpayee’s unique film choices stood out, especially during a time when most people were following mainstream cinema.

Gulshan Devaiah On What He Learned From Manoj Bajpayee And Late Irfaan Khan

Speaking to Bollywood Bubble, he said, “When I was at an age where I needed inspiration, Manoj Bajpayee was there. He had an era of his own with films like Satya that left a deep impact on us. While Shah Rukh Khan was also doing something different within commercial films, Manoj ji was taking on realistic and unconventional roles. That really inspired me. At a time when I was feeling low, Manoj sir felt like a shining beacon of hope. His long career and continued passion for acting even today are something I admire a lot.”

Gulshan also praised Irrfan Khan for his unique style and fearless choices. He said, “Irrfan was truly versatile. He brought variety into his roles without changing who he was to please others. He had confidence in his talent and didn’t try to fit in. Sometimes, you can just feel that strong self-belief in people. I also enjoy doing different kinds of roles, and working with different people helps me grow as an actor. You realise that, ‘Oh, I can do this too!’”

Jugnuma review: Manoj Bajpayee soars in Raam Reddy's dreamscape where magic meets everyday life

Jugnuma review: Manoj Bajpayee soars in Raam Reddy’s dreamscape where magic meets everyday life

by jummy84 September 12, 2025
written by jummy84

The first thing that hooks you to The Fable (releasing in India as Jugnuma) is the opening frame itself. Shot on film, a rarity today, it immediately sets the mood. Glossy widescreen frames may look impressive, but when the setting is the 1980s, the masterstroke lies in the choice of format. The grainy texture of the stock suits a story that calls itself a fable, and the makers are careful not to smooth it over. The effect is a sense of magic and story coming alive.

The film’s unique cinematography and authentic performances create a captivating story about family and the environment.

What is Jugnuma about?

Jugnuma is not a run-of-the-mill film. The only familiar presence is Manoj Bajpayee, whose mainstream success in the OTT world has given him the freedom to experiment. Raam Reddy’s film benefits immensely from that. Viewers may arrive for Manoj, but they stay for Raam’s storytelling. The film follows Dev (Manoj), an orchard owner in Himachal who lives happily with his wife and two children. One day, part of his orchard is torched. Suspicion falls on the villagers tasked with guarding it at night. What happens next is the rest of the film.

Movie Review

Jugnuma

Jugnuma

Rating Star 3/5

The film follows a Himachal orchard owner living with his wife and children, whose orchard is partly torched, putting suspicion on the night guards.

Cast

Manoj Bajpayee, Priyanka Bose

Verdict

Jugnuma reveals that a fable is less about magic and more about the truths woven into daily life, leaving behind questions, images, and a mood that lingers well past its runtime.

There is a plot, but the film does not rush. It prefers to let events unfold at their own pace, aided by touches of magic realism. Early on, Dev dons a pair of enormous wings he has built himself and soars into the sky. Magic is part of everyday life here.

The nuances stand out. A video camera, first introduced innocently as Dev’s youngest child runs around excitedly with it, turns the viewer into a lens. Later, the same camera offers a final glimpse of what may have happened to the family, which disappears without trace. Man’s battle with the environment is also a recurring theme.

A stunning picture

The visuals themselves, crafted by cinematographer Sunil Borkar, a former national-level shooter, are fascinating. A look into how the film was made, and the awards it has already won, is enough to leave anyone impressed, do give it a read on Wikipedia.

Among the performances, Manoj is so good at slipping into his characters that it hardly feels like acting. He is Dev. Priyanka Bose complements him perfectly as his wife. With half the cast drawn from real villagers trained on location, the story gains an added sense of authenticity. Deepak Dobriyal, as Dev’s manager and the narrator, does his part well.

Overall, Jugnuma shows that a fable is not just about magic but about the truths hidden within the everyday. It leaves you with questions, images, and a mood that lingers far longer than the runtime.

Bollywood is filled with artists whose presence feels inseparable from its very identity. Names like Jaideep Ahlawat, Vijay Varma, Manoj Bajpayee, and filmmaker Anurag Kashyap define the industry with their sheer talent and versatility. Now imagine all of them coming together on one stage. A glimpse of that magic was witnessed recently at the screening of Manoj Bajpayee’s film Jugnuma, leaving fans in splits with their offbeat camaraderie.

After a long time, Manoj Bajpayee and Anurag Kashyap shared the same public platform, instantly reminding fans of their iconic Gangs of Wasseypur bond. The evening turned even more special when Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma joined them. What followed next became a viral moment on social media. In a widely shared video, Jaideep, Anurag, and Vijay can be seen playfully bowing down to touch Manoj Bajpayee’s feet, as though seeking his blessings.

The lighthearted drama didn’t stop there as actor Vikrant Massey rushed in and literally bent at Manoj’s feet, making the senior actor blush with embarrassment as he tried to stop him. Adding to the hilarity, Vineet Singh too joined the fun, bowing down before Manoj. The entire stage turned into a laughter riot, with fans online calling the moment “legendary.” Reactions poured in praising the star-studded frame.

Manoj Bajpayee calls box office obsession a ‘monster’ created by Bollywood’s successful people: ‘Soon it will eat them’

by jummy84 September 11, 2025
written by jummy84

Actor Manoj Bajpayee is not a fan of film producers and studios throwing around box office numbers to promote their titles. The actor, who balances commercial and independent cinema, says this obsession with box office is a monster that will ‘eat up’ its own creators.

Manoj Bajpayee talks about independent cinema and box office.

The actor is gearing up for the release of Jugnuma, directed by Raam Reddy. The film has earned acclaim worldwide as The Fable and is finally getting a release in Indian theatres this month. Ahead of the release, the National Award winner sits down with Hindustan Times to talk about the state of independent films in the country and the newfound obsession with the box office.

On the box office monster

Over the last few years, box office numbers have turned into promotional tools to leverage buzz for films. Talking about the phenomenon, Manoj says, “It’s a monster that is created by the producers themselves, the commercial producers, for their own game. Very soon, this monster is going to eat you up. You have created Bhasmasura. Just wait for the day you are going to put your hand on your own head, and you will be ruined. This has been created by our own successful people, and one day it will eat them up.”

OTT’s change of stance

Equating box office success with quality has particularly hurt smaller, independent films, as their low collections are now considered a sign of bad quality. Manoj argues, “The small, independent films always experience struggle. Then came a very brief time when OTT had just entered the country, and they were welcoming. But very soon, they changed their stance, and all of them started focusing on mainstream subjects and faces. One feels sad, because I am of the opinion that if you finish independent movement, your cinema will become just a product and nothing more. If the art is taken out, it has no value.”

He gives the example of Amitabh Bachchan, a rare superstar who also did smaller films during the peak of his stardom. “Mr Bachchan has also done a few fabulous (small) films like Abhimaan and Mili. He has done many more. Only Don, after a point, will be boring. He is Mr Bachchan also because of the kind of films he has done earlier in his career,” says the actor.

The struggles of indie films

He mentions OTT platforms, the streaming giants that occupy a large chunk of India’s entertainment space now, and laments that even they have given in to commercial compulsions now. “Everyone who is more interested in making commercial films or buying commercial films knows it’s a gamble. It does not pay off that often. The producers and OTT platforms are more interested in putting their money into that film because the gain is huge. Agar ye tukka lag gaya toh bahut paisa aayega. But mostly lagta nahi hai, kuch hi lucky hote hain jinka lagta hai (If this gamble works, one can earn a lot of money, but it doesn’t happen mostly. It only works for a lucky few.) They are fine with it. But, we are also fine with our own struggles,” says Manoj.

Jugnuma, directed by Raam Reddy, also stars Priyanka Bose, Deepak Dobriyal, and Tillotama Shome. It is releasing in theatres on September 12.

We were to do a film after ‘Wasseypur’, Anurag felt script was not coming together: Manoj Bajpayee

by jummy84 September 9, 2025
written by jummy84

Mumbai, Anurag Kashyap was writing a film for Manoj Bajpayee after the success of his two-part epic “Gangs of Wasseypur” but he had to abandon the project after hitting a roadblock, says the actor, who shares a close friendship with the director that dates back to their first commercial hit “Satya” in 1998.

We were to do a film after ‘Wasseypur’, Anurag felt script was not coming together: Manoj Bajpayee

The Ramgopal Varma-directed film, which Kashyap wrote, launched Bajpayee into stardom as Bhiku Mhatre. They went on to work on “Kaun” and “Shool” but misunderstanding kept them from working together for several years.

Years later, Kashyap and Bajpayee reunited for the director’s “Gangs of Wasseypur” .

“There was too much misunderstanding, which got cleared up only after we decided to work on ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’. But it was a loss not only for both of us but also for our audience because we could really create a lot of magic together. We understood each other, we were just right for each other, and ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ proved it right,” Bajpayee told PTI in an interview.

But it has been thirteen years since “Wasseypur”, did they not discuss another collaboration?

“We were discussing a film very seriously. But Anurag being Anurag, he is very unpredictable, and I accept him in all of his flaws, that’s the kind of relationship I’ve with him. He realised that he is not being able to do justice to it as a writer, so we stopped,” the actor said.

Bajpayee has not lost hope about Kashyap starting the project again but wouldn’t actively follow its development.

“Let’s see, one fine morning he will get up and he will have his script. I don’t put any pressure on him at all. He is that kind of a person who is never easy with compulsions whether emotional, physical or financial.”

Now Kashyap has turned presenter for Bajpayee’s new project “Jugnuma”, which has been directed by Raam Reddy.

“He saw the film at the New York Film festival, and he was blown away by the film. And he decided to support the film, and put his name on the poster. He got a few of the exciting filmmakers, big names from South India like Vetri Maaran, Nag Ashwin, Lijo . All of them have seen the film and they have lent their names to it. This just tells you about the beauty of the film, and what a magical story ‘Jugnuma’ is,” he said.

According to Bajpayee, Kashyap single handedly mentored many independent films by putting his might behind the filmmakers.

“He is a very courageous guy. There are flip sides to him, there is always a dark phase that he goes through, but that’s his personality. I personally feel that he can’t create without chaos. So, his chaos is a positive indication to me that he is going to come up with something really fantastic.”

Asked if there was something that he disliked about Kashyap’s personality that he has not shared with his friend, Bajpayee said the filmmaker thrives in chaos, while he himself is highly organised.

“There are very few things that I dislike about him, like he is not tidy enough. He should be, but he refuses to be tidy. His place is always scattered, and he doesn’t like anyone to clean it. I’m a person who is very organised, so I find it very unsettling when I enter his house,” Bajpayee said.

“Jugnuma”, which is titled “The Fable” in English, is set to release in theatres this Friday.
