‘I Swear’ Star Robert Aramayo, Director Kirk on Making Tourette’s Pic

A movie about Tourette’s syndrome called “I Swear” usually elicits a small chuckle and “good title” from someone hearing about the film, which premieres in Toronto. And that’s the reaction director and writer Kirk Jones (“Waking Ned Devine”) wants to dispel — using humor and heart to educate audiences about Tourette’s through this real-life story of John Davidson.

The crowd-pleaser bows Sept. 7 at the Toronto Intl. Film Festival. Bankside is repping international sales on the film; Studio Canal distributes in the U.K. while Blue Fox Entertainment distribs in Canada.

Robert Aramayo (“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”) stars as Davidson, who as a young teen in the early 1980s was diagnosed with Tourette’s at a time when it wasn’t understood. Davidson struggled but in adulthood found an advocate in his friend’s mother Dottie (Maxine Peake) and under the mentorship of Tommy (Peter Mullan), who saw through the uncontrollable ticks and swearing and gave him a job. (Aramayo remarks that it was a dream to work with those performers. “And for me, it was, it was just a dream as well. I think that they were all first choices. And you know, that doesn’t always happen,” says Jones).

Davidson not only learned to advocate for himself, he advocated for all with Tourette’s leading outreach and education campaigns through the U.K. In 2019, he accepted an MBE from Queen Elizabeth II.

But while the film will draw tears, it’s hardly a cup of treacle. “We spoke a lot about tone,” says Aramayo, noting that the whole film “could live inside the opening scene.” That shows Davidson freaking out about meeting the queen in order to accept his MBE, finding his inner strength with the help of Dottie to entering the grand hall with a vulgar outburst and charmingly apologizing. “There’s a different kind of energy in that scene with the queen — there’s fun in the film,” he says.

Both Jones and Aramayo were drawn to the material to shed a light on Tourette’s — Jones proudly points out that out of 90 cast members, 30 have Tourette’s.

“I think now actually, especially with artists like Lewis Capaldi, there are people in the spotlight who have Tourette’s, who are quite happy to speak about Tourette’s, who are open about Tourette’s,” says Jones.

“Most people have perhaps the wrong understanding of the condition. For both Rob and I, it was a really steep learning curve.”

Jones spent a lot of time with Davidson, “From a dramatic point of view, from an emotional point of view, from a comedic point of view, I was really drawn to this idea of someone being out of control of what they said, and John, is a really lovely, kind, gentle spirit, but what has come out of his mouth over the years has been violent and aggressive and led to him being beaten up and just in general, causing huge, huge upset. So I just thought it was fascinating, and I was amazed it hadn’t really been dealt with before,” says Jones.

Aramayo says his research was both broad and deep, and spending a lot of time with Davidson as well as people with Tourette’s really allowed him to unlock his portrayal.

“I had this philosophy that I could try and find the John inside of myself. I didn’t want to come from a from a perspective of impersonation, or anything like that,” he says. “And I read lots of books, all about triggers and, like, just really tried to understand and get underneath what ticks are and what Tourette’s is.”

Asked about his incredible physicality in the role, he credits his movement coach. But a kay wans’t so much the tics, it was “literally just the amount of space that John takes up in a room. You know, how he moves around the room. And the robustness to John and things like that was really important to get right,” he says.

“Just to play John himself is not an easy endeavor,” he continues. “I’ve never really been in that energy with a character before!”

Is Your Matcha Latte Making Your Hair Fall Out?

by jummy84 September 4, 2025

  • Caffeine-related side effects such as anxiety, insomnia, and headaches
  • Stomach irritation or digestive issues
  • Potential lead contamination
  • Teeth strain
  • May interact with medications
  • Possible liver stress in very high doses

If you just love matcha too much to completely cut it off, Samantha Dieras, RN, DCN, director of ambulatory nutrition services at Mount Sinai Hospital, says you don’t have to take such a drastic route. “If you enjoy it, [it] provides the benefits of drinking green tea,” Dieras says. Instead, she recommends being more thoughtful about the timing of when you consume it and what foods you can pair with it to offset the possible negative downsides. For example, you can drink your matcha about one to two hours before consuming iron-rich foods or make sure to add some vitamin C food with your iron-rich meals to increase absorption, she says. Also, be careful with the sweeteners and milk you add to your matcha, as they might contain unnecessary added sugars and other ingredients that are considered unhealthy.

As for the amount you’re consuming, Dr. Viola says a safe limit would be about 2 to 3 grams a day (which is the equivalent of 2 to 3 cups). Because matcha is more concentrated than regular tea, she tells patients that drinking 4 to 5 grams a day regularly is too much. Your body will alert you when it’s reached its limit with matcha. She says that if you’re experiencing insomnia, jitteriness, headaches, acid reflux, and other downsides, you may want to rethink that matcha latte. And if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have caffeine sensitivity, take certain medications, have an iron deficiency, or liver issues, it’s best to avoid daily matcha drinking. Other than that, you should be okay.

“Overall, if you’re healthy and moderate your intake, matcha can absolutely be part of a daily wellness routine,” she says. “Just be mindful of your body’s signals and iron status.”

What can you do about the shedding?

Dr. King says that hair loss is a complicated subject that can have many different causes. The most common causes, she says, are usually genetics, stress, and hormones. While diet can also be a factor, she says other deficiencies such as vitamin B, zinc, and vitamin D deficiency, as well as insufficient protein intake, can lead to hair loss. Your best bet as always is to ask a dermatologist or your doctor for answers. “It’s reasonable to cut back if you are drinking large amounts of matcha, but in most cases, hair loss is not caused by a single dietary factor,” she adds. “See your doctor for a thorough assessment.”

Jonas Brothers are maximizing the news cycle around their 20th-anniversary Greetings From Your Hometown Tour, which launched less than a month ago but has generated dozens of headlines about surprise guests, unexpected reunions and two brother trios joining forces.

The latest big news from the tour came at Sunday’s stop in Dallas, where Fifth Harmony — Ally Brooke, Normani, Lauren Jauregui and Dinah Jane — performed together for the first time in seven years. The quartet performed “Worth It” and “Work From Home” for the lucky crowd, which was also treated to surprises from Kelsea Ballerini, The Plain White T’s and Ryan Cabrera that night. The tour kicked off in the JoBros’ native New Jersey, with Demi Lovato popping up Aug. 10 for a Camp Rock sing-along. Oh, and fellow brother trio Hanson showed up at the Virginia Beach show on Aug. 15 to perform “MMMBop” with the boys.

On the new Billboard Pop Shop Podcast, Katie & Keith are talking about all the ways artists are carving out special moments for fans at their shows — like Taylor Swift’s acoustic set on Eras Tour or Kelly Clarkson’s nightly Kellyoke cover in Las Vegas — and why it’s a win-win for everyone involved.

Also on the show, Stray Kids get their seventh No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 — the entirety of their charting efforts — as KARMA debuts atop the list. Meanwhile, Laufey, Deftones, Tyler, The Creator and BigXthaPlug all shake up the Billboard 200 top 10. Plus, on the Billboard Hot 100, as the KPop Demon Hunters hit “Golden” is No. 1 for a third week, Doja Cat’s new “Jealous Type” debuts in the top 40. And on the Pop Airplay chart, Sabrina Carpenter’s “Manchild” jumps to No. 1 — marking her sixth leader, and all have come in just one year and five months’ time. Has anyone else notched that many No. 1s that quickly?

The Billboard Pop Shop Podcast is your one-stop shop for all things pop on Billboard‘s weekly charts. You can always count on a lively discussion about the latest pop news, fun chart stats and stories, new music, and guest interviews with music stars and folks from the world of pop. Full Trailer for Coppola’s ‘Megadoc’ About the Making of His Latest

“No one I’m working with realizes how weird of a movie this really is…” Utopia has debuted the full official trailer for a crazy wacky making of documentary film titled Megadoc, from director Mike Figgis. This mega documentary is trying to be the Hearts of Darkness (which was a look at Coppola’s troubled Apocalypse Now set) for Megalopolis, which opened in theaters last year. The only problem is that Megalopolis not only flopped big time, but it’s just not a good movie by any measure, and Coppola doesn’t get this. Oh well. Yes he spent tons of money on it (and comments on that in here), and he’s trying to be bold and provocative again, but it’s a complete mess. This Megadoc look at the chaos of filmmaking features appearances by Francis Ford Coppola (but of course!), Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, Nathalie Emmanuel, Dustin Hoffman, Giancarlo Esposito, Chloe Fineman, Shia LaBeouf, Laurence Fishburne, Jon Voight, Talia Shire, Robert De Niro, and more. It just premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival & Telluride Film Festival last week, and will be out to watch in limited theaters later this month. Not long of a wait at all! Who wants to watch this?

Here’s the main official trailer for Mike Figgis’ making of doc film Megadoc, direct from YouTube:

You can rewatch the teaser trailer for Mike Figgis’ Megadoc film right here for the first look again.

This September: A raw, fly-on-the-wall documentary about Francis Ford Coppola’s decades-long journey in creating his self-financed passion project, Megalopolis. The bold and unrelenting epic returns in Mike Figgis’ compelling portrait of Coppola’s creative process – weaving together archival material, unfiltered cast interviews, and a close-up view of how the legendary filmmaker drew from Roman history, political allegory, and his own singular vision to shape the world of Megalopolis. This isn’t a record of a production on the brink, it’s a personal memoir unfolding in real time. Megadoc is directed by British indie filmmaker Mike Figgis, director of many films including Stormy Monday, Internal Affairs, Mr. Jones, The Browning Version, Leaving Las Vegas, One Night Stand, Miss Julie, Timecode, Hotel, Cold Creek Manor, Love Live Long, Suspension of Disbelief, and Somebody Up There Likes Me previously. Produced by Tara Li-An and James Mockoski. This is premiering at the 2025 Venice Film Festival coming up this fall. Utopia will debut Figgis’ Megadoc in select US theaters starting on September 19th, 2025 for everyone to watch. Who’s in?

BuDhaGirl’s Jessica Jesse Is Making Mindfulness Chic With Bangles That Double as Daily Rituals

Baubles with significance! When Jessica Jesse launched her jewelry line BuDhaGirl in 2013, she wanted to create more than just arm candy — and there’s a meaningful reason why.

The idea first sparked when the founder returned from a trip to ancient monasteries in Thailand, with wrists stacked in simple gold plastic bracelets.

“I began to wonder if these little bangles could become daily companions for mindfulness and reminders to pause, breathe, and be present. … It wasn’t about long hours of meditation. It was about consistency, intention, and grace,” she tells ET.

That thought turned into her cult-favorite All Weather Bangles® — handcrafted by artisans in Thailand — plus, the idea of Mindful Glamour®, a philosophy that embraces beauty and presence equally.

“A woman can be radiant on the outside, while living a deeply contemplative life within,” the creative director explains.

“I’ve never believed the stereotype that depth only comes in granola clothes or austere simplicity. … It is the refusal to choose between beauty and presence.”

The CEO’s own routines reflect that same balance. Each morning begins by reciting a personal mantra, lighting a candle, setting wishes, reading, and sipping a cup of lemon water or tea.

From there comes the ritual of adornment.

“I set my intentions as I put on each bangle. … I slip them onto my wrist and pause and breathe. … My first two bangles are always my children, and others may hold gratitude, focus, love, or compassion.”

And Jesse carries that energy into the rest of her day.

“Everything holds the potential to be sacred if we choose to be fully present. … I approach each act with intention whether it’s thanking my car before I drive, or the act of eating, I approach each with intention.”

Jennifer Aniston Spills the Dry Shampoo Mistake You’re Probably Making — Plus, Her Secret Superpower

Good hair and a great sense of humor! Jennifer Aniston hosted a fireside chat with Taylen Biggs at Chief Clubhouse in West Hollywood, California on Aug. 2 to celebrate LolaVie’s Powder Perfect Dry Shampoo — she didn’t hold back on sharing her beauty from the inside out tips.

The actress, 56, said that while her latest product is “perfect,” she has fallen victim to a common hair blunder in the past.

“I can only really speak from my own experience, which is using too much [dry shampoo.] It weighs it down and it looks like there’s always sort of a powdery film to your hair.”

Luckily, the Friends star here to save the day for all of us now with her new talc-free, aerosol-free formula.

“I usually will use it after workouts,” Aniston explained. “It’s good not to wash your hair every day and let your natural oils sort of do their thing. I use it just to sort of have a good refresh. It also gives a little life back to it. It gives a little height.”

And what really sets it apart is its fragrance and magical properties.

“It’s got a beautiful, fresh scent. It’s got rice starch, and bamboo, and crushed crystals, just to add a little bit of juju,” the Emmy award winner noted.

Beyond providing a magical solution for bad hair days, the founder has another extraordinary ability.

“My superpower? A sense of humor. … Just a sense of humor because God knows we need it,” she joked.

In addition to using high-quality haircare and providing lots of laughter, The Morning Show star’s ultimate beauty philosophy all comes down to being genuine.

“Authenticity is key. … Staying true to yourself, not caring about what others think. … And loving what you’re doing.”

LolaVie’s Powder Perfect Dry Shampoo is available to shop now for $25 at lolavie.com and ulta.com.
