“We feel we decide our own fates, but we don’t.” Oscilloscope Labs has unveiled the official US trailer for a intriguing documentary film called Mistress Dispeller, which originally premiered at last year’s Venice Film Festival. It also played at tons of other fests, including Toronto, Zurich, Chicago, & Hot Springs, and will hit US theaters this October. Desperate to save her marriage, a woman in China hires a professional to go undercover and help break up her husband’s affair in an attempt to save her marriage. An intriguing look at a new industry in China featuring a woman known as “Mistress Dispeller” about couples who want to try & stay married. With strikingly intimate access, Mistress Dispeller follows this unfolding family drama from all corners of a love triangle. The production team followed different couples and love triangles for 3 years until they found one that stayed through to the end without withdrawing their consent. It looks much more profound than it sounds, not really criticizing the infidelity as much as exploring why marriages fail & how people can work on fixing their issues, whatever they may be. Mistress Dispeller is directed by the indie producer / writer / filmmaker Elizabeth Lo, director of the doc film Stray previously, and many other short films. This initially premiered at the 2024 Venice Film Festival last year and at many other fests. LaMelo Ball And PUMA Hoops Introduce MB.05 At Los Angeles Pop-Up

LaMelo Ball and PUMA Hoops hosted a fan-forward event to celebrate the release of the newest silhouette in LaMelo Ball’s signature franchise. A line wrapped down Melrose Ave. in Los Angeles on Tuesday (Aug. 26) with eager sports enthusiasts hoping to get the chance to be the first to shop the MB.05 World Tour drop, as well as meet the NBA star.

The MB.05 World Tour was designed in collaboration with Melo and inspired by his swagger both on and off the court. Available in fluorescent pink with iridescent detailing throughout, the design features barbed wire detailing as a nod to his tattoos. Additional design features include a molded skull and a “1” in the outsole, described as a nod to Ball’s one-of-one status. The sneakers are also finished with NITROFOAM™ cushioning for athletic comfort.

LaMelo first joined the PUMA Hoops family in 2020 when he was still a teenager.

“LaMelo’s physical gifts and dynamic play on the court, as well as his unique sense of personal style, make him a natural fit for PUMA,” expressed Adam Petrick, Global Director of Brand and Marketing at PUMA at the time. “We are thrilled to add him to our roster of talented athletes, and at just 19 years old, we can’t wait to see his impact on the broader culture surrounding basketball.”

Madelyn Cline found Los Angeles to be “a whole different world” when she moved to the city.

Madelyn Cline moved to LA from South Carolina

The 27-year-old actress hails from Goose Creek in South Carolina – but Madelyn moved to Los Angeles to pursue her career ambitions, and she’s recalled feeling out of place in the city.

She told Paper magazine: “I think I’m — and I say this with love and pride — I’m equal parts emotionally tuned-in and completely clueless at the same time.

“When I first moved to LA, I remember feeling like, I know myself. I’m grounded. But I have no idea what anyone here is talking about. It was a whole different world. I’ve learned over time that every place you go is kind of like its own audition. You have to switch gears, wear different jeans, different shoes, whatever it is.”

Asked if it was like “code-switching”, Madelyn replied: “It’s like code-switching, but not necessarily in a cultural way.

“It’s more like adapting. You’re a chameleon. I didn’t understand that when I first got there. But someone told me once, every time you step outside your apartment in LA, it’s the biggest audition of your life. And they were right.”

Madelyn ultimately learned to embrace the unique challenges of living and working in Los Angeles.

She said: “You kind of learn it the hard way, whether you like it or not. But it’s also the best kind of lesson, because it forces you to look in the mirror and ask, If I don’t get my s*** together, what else do I have?”

Madelyn has worked across various genres in her career, and the actress actually embraces different types of challenges.

The Outer Banks star explained: “It doesn’t matter if it’s rom-com, camp, drama. None of that matters as long as the actor or artist believes in it. That’s what makes it good. I just think that’s art in general. Don’t not believe in the magic. And don’t try to tell the joke, you know? The joke is already there. Play the game. It’s the art spirit. The best thing you can ever do is just believe in it.”

Lil Nas X hospitalised for possible overdose after charging at police officers in Los Angeles

Lil Nas X has reportedly been hospitalised due to a possible overdose after charging at police officers in Los Angeles.

According to Rolling Stone, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed on Thursday (August 21) that a man in his underwear was spotted walking down the street in Studio City at 5:50am. Police attempted to approach him, at which point the man charged at them. He was then placed in handcuffs and escorted to hospital to be treated for a possible overdose.

Although LAPD have not named the man, TMZ also shared a video of Lil Nas X walking on the same street in his underwear, speaking incoherently at around the same time.

It is now believed that the rapper – real name Montero Lamar Hill – is being treated in hospital, and could still potentially be charged for a crime by police.

The incident comes just days after Lil Nas X deleted his Instagram history and renamed his account ‘QUEEN MADELINE’. He has since posted a number of images of artwork and shared clips of possible new music.

In April, the rapper suffered partial paralysis in the right side of his face, explaining in a social media post that he had “lost control” of some muscles. A few days later, he said he had regained some of the lost movement, telling fans that he had been instructed to chew gum to strengthen his muscles.

Lil Nas X released the ‘Days Before Dreamboy’ EP in March via Columbia Records. It was intended to be the latest step of a new album campaign that launched in late 2024 with the ‘Light Again’ single, and was then followed by ‘Need Dat Boy’ in November and ‘Hotbox‘.

‘Days Before Dreamboy’ served as a prelude to ‘DREAMBOY’, which has yet to receive a release date but had been expected to arrive sometime this year.

It will be his first full-length album since his 2021 debut ‘Montero’, which included the hit singles ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’ and ‘Industry Baby’ with Jack Harlow.

In a three-star review of that album, NME wrote: “Mostly, it’s refreshing to see Lil Nas X in a different, more reflective light, but in asserting himself so strongly as a Serious Artist, he occasionally forgets about the touch of magic that made him one in the first place.”

Lil Nas X hospitalized in Los Angeles for ‘possible overdose,’ say reports – National

Rapper Lil Nas X has reportedly been hospitalized in Los Angeles after suffering a possible overdose.

In a video shared by TMZ, the Old Town Road rapper, 26, was seen in his underwear and cowboy boots, roaming along Ventura Boulevard in the Studio City neighbourhood around 4 a.m. local time on Thursday.

Someone driving by Nas, born Montero Hill, recorded him, while he repeatedly pointed at the camera and at one point, placed an orange traffic cone on his head.

“Hey, don’t be late to the party tonight,” Nas tells the person behind the camera. “You know where it’s at.”

“Didn’t I tell you to put the phone down?” he asks the person. “Uh-oh, somebody’s going to have to pay for that!”

Nas goes on to say that it’s going to be “a beautiful sunrise” and threatens to throw the person’s phone.

“I’m going to throw it far away so you never see it again. I don’t like phones,” he says in the video.

According to the TMZ, several people in the area had reported seeing “a naked man” walking in the road. When the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers reportedly responded, they found Nas walking down the middle of the road.

The Industry Baby rapper charged at police, who put him in handcuffs and told paramedics that Nas might have experienced a possible overdose, LAPD told a local NBC news affiliate. He was then transported to a nearby hospital.

LAPD sources told the NBC affiliate that the 26-year-old artist is expected to be booked on suspicion of misdemeanour battery on a police officer.

Nas has not addressed the incident since his hospitalization and his representatives have not made an official comment on the reports.

The latest incident follows a separate health scare Nas faced earlier this year.

In April, the That’s What I Want singer revealed that he had been hospitalized with partial facial paralysis, which temporarily affected the movement on the right side of his face. He posted an Instagram video of himself from the hospital bed, telling his followers that he “lost control” of movement in his face.

“This is me doing a full smile by the way,” he said in the video. “I can’t even laugh right, bro.”

The Grammy-winning rapper told his fans that he was OK, adding, “stop being sad for me!”

In 2019, the rapper rose to fame after his breakthrough single, Old Town Road, became a viral hit.

Nas is set to release his upcoming second studio album, Dreamboy, later this year.

Blue Note Los Angeles Grand Opening Weekend: Recap

Blue Note Los Angeles will quickly become the go-to spot for you, your faves, and theirs, too.

The lounge formally opened its doors on Thursday (Aug. 14) with back-to-back jam sessions starring Robert Glasper and friends. During the second show of night one, Affion Crockett, D Smoke, and Shock G‘s protégé, Young Hump, all took to the stage to welcome guests with delightful, impromptu performances.

Crockett impersonated JAY-Z and later freestyled a few bars: “I ain’t revealing who the killer is/ And who the most responsible villain […] I ain’t wishing death on nobody/ I’m wishing remission/ That we go back to the day of Special Ed and the mission […] Need to get a respirator/ Maybe hook ’em to phonics/ So, we can clean up the bulls**t/ Hip-Hop needs a colonic…”

When D Smoke took the stage, he reminded the audience, “This is not some planned s**t by any means.” He wound up performing “Shine” and praised the brilliance of his cousin, Tiffany Gouché. Throughout the weekend, other special guests included Aja Monét, Quinta Brunson, Omar J. Dorsey, Vic Mensa, Buddy, and more.

For the famed musician and Creative Ambassador of the venue, Glasper gushed on Instagram, “I’m still floating from the grand opening of @bluenotelosangeles on Sunset! What a moment. What a MOMENT. The energy in that room was pure magic — from the first note to the last, we had something special brewing. Blue Note LA officially opened its doors on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood on Thursday, Aug. 14, and to be the one to christen this legendary space in LA? Man, that’s not lost on me.”

He continued, “The West Coast needed this. Music needed this. WE needed this. Being a creative ambassador for Blue Note LA isn’t just an honor— it’s a responsibility I take seriously. This isn’t just another venue, this is a sanctuary for the culture. Shoutout to every single soul that came through – the musicians, the lovers of music, the family, the friends.
