TBOE Global Policy Forum to return to IET London: Savoy Place

by jummy84 September 10, 2025
written by jummy84

The Business of Events (TBOE), the independent Think Tank for the events sector, has announced the date and venue for its Global Policy Forum 2026, along with the launch of its new Partnership Prospectus.

The Global Policy Forum will return to IET London: Savoy Place on Tuesday 7th July 2026, with the opportunity to pre-register for the event here.

TBOE’s Forum examines the current economic and political climate and reviews the latest policy developments affecting the events sector. In 2025, it attracted 300 senior leaders from destinations, venues, exhibition organisers, event agencies, associations and trade bodies.

Attendees are joined by MPs who serve on the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Events, plus Ministers, officials and policymakers.

The 2025 Forum, which took place on 1 April at IET London: Savoy Place was attended by, amongst others, Sir Chris Bryant MP, the former Minister of State for Media, Tourism and Creative Industries and Dame Caroline Dinenage MP, chair of the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee.

Dame Caroline attended the Global Policy Forum to announce that a group of cross-party MPs will examine the business events sector and propose recommendations to the Government as part of a specialised Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee inquiry.

Jess Mooney, Business Development Manager at IET London: Savoy Place, said: “IET London: Savoy Place has been proud to host The Business of Events Global Policy Forum for the past two years, and we look forward to welcoming attendees back in 2026. Being a TBOE Partner has not only brought valuable recognition to our venue but also created meaningful opportunities for our team to engage with a wide and influential network of industry leaders.”

On the eve of the 2026 Forum, TBOE will host a Westminster Dinner, where Partners can meet with APPG for Events MPs in a relaxed setting to begin the conversation as to how the event sector can be better supported.

Details of the benefits of becoming a TBOE Partner are included in the organisation’s new Partnership Prospectus for the year ahead. The Prospectus also details several levels of additional partnership available for the Global Policy Forum, ranging from Headline Sponsor to Forum Supporter. Each level of investment provides branding, recognition, invites and participation.

TBOE partners receive branding on all research reports, policy documents and white papers, invitations to speak at events and join panel discussions, the shared benefits of PR and Media activities, plus the shared benefits of lobbying activities.

TBOE’s Director of News & Content, Mike Fletcher, said: “Our primary role is to raise the importance and profile of events as a driver of economic and social growth and to maximise the opportunities achieved by having a strong sector. We achieve this through a combination of Content, Engagement, Advocacy and Policy, bringing together senior leaders to connect with the Government, policymakers and influencers, public sector organisations and Members of Parliament. By becoming a TBOE partner, you’ll help us continue this important work.”

TBOE does not receive direct government or public sector funding and therefore relies on the ongoing commercial support of its strategic partners and sponsors.

‘Paddington the Musical’ Expands Cast for London West End Bow

by jummy84 September 9, 2025
written by jummy84

The marmalade is spreading across London’s West End. Producers have unveiled the expanded company for “Paddington the Musical,” the world premiere adaptation heading to London’s Savoy Theatre this fall.

Sonia Friedman Productions, Studiocanal and Eliza Lumley Productions on behalf of Universal Music U.K. revealed the additional cast members joining the previously announced ensemble for the musical based on Michael Bond’s beloved bear.

One key casting element remains under wraps: the identity of Paddington himself, along with the bear designer and bear creative team, will be revealed on the first preview performance.

The production reunites several notable West End veterans, including Bonnie Langford as Mrs Bird, Brenda Edwards as Tanya, and Victoria Hamilton-Barritt as villain Millicent Clyde. Tom Edden takes on the role of the Browns’ curmudgeonly neighbor Mr. Curry, while Teddy Kempner plays the kindly Mr. Gruber.

The Brown family will be portrayed by Amy Ellen Richardson and Adrian Der Gregorian as Mr. and Mrs. Brown, with Delilah Bennett-Cardy as daughter Judy. Four young actors — Joseph Bramley, Leo Collon, Stevie Hare and Jasper Rowse — will share the role of son Jonathan Brown.

Rounding out the company are Esme Bacalla-Hayes, Tiago Dhondt Bamberger, David Birch, Aimée Fisher, Jacqueline Hughes, Kellianna Jay, Sam Lathwood, Natasha Leaver, Katie Lee, Sunny Lee, Vicki Lee Taylor, Jáiden Lodge, Andilé Mabhena, Rose Mary O’Reilly, Ben Redfern, Hugo Rolland and Simon Shorten.

The musical features music and lyrics by Tom Fletcher, book by Jessica Swale and direction by Luke Sheppard. The creative team includes musical supervisor Matt Brind, choreographer Ellen Kane, and scenic designer Tom Pye.

“Paddington the Musical” begins previews Nov. 1, with booking currently extending through May 25, 2026. The production promises “show-stopping songs, dazzling choreography, mischief and mayhem at every turn — and of course, marmalade sandwiches.”

The musical draws from Bond’s original books and takes story inspiration from the 2014 Studiocanal film. Bond’s first “Paddington” book was published in 1958, launching a franchise that has sold over 35 million copies worldwide and spawned multiple TV adaptations and three feature films, including this year’s “Paddington in Peru.”

A WW2 Bomb Is Unearthed in Central London

by jummy84 September 6, 2025
written by jummy84

What sets someone off? In the twisty, streaming-caliber thriller “Fuze,” that’s as much the question as whether the 500-pound bomb discovered in a London construction site might blow. If it does, the WW2-era explosive (presumably a relic of the Blitz) could wipe out several city blocks, which is why authorities swarm the area and evacuate all residents in the film’s opening minutes. Normally, that would be a recipe for some edge-of-your-seat action, although Ben Hopkins’ script makes clear early on that the bomb is just a distraction, while an even more sinister plot is ticking within the blast radius.

If it weren’t for the film’s cast (or the grim seriosity of its director, David Mackenzie), “Fuze” might have been a complete dud. But “Hell or High Water” helmer Mackenzie treats the assignment like he’s the one saving lives, eschewing anything that might count as fun along the way. With his jaw clenched and sights set on being the next James Bond, Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Major Will Tranter, a bomb disposal pro who’s both an ace sniper and a bit of a loose cannon, breaking protocol in his obsessive attempt to deactivate the vintage ordnance with minimal casualties.

While Tranter’s poking around the deadly antique, a high-ranking police officer named Zuzana (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) is focused on protecting the public. Mackenize singles out a Dari-speaking immigrant named Rahim (Elham Ehsas) and his elderly parents as the residents warily pour out of a nearby apartment building, knowing that audiences’ imaginations (and biases) will start to suggest how this character might relate to the bigger picture. Although several of the film’s surprises are predictable — usually just moments before the reversal comes — no one is likely to figure out Rahim’s connection to the bomb.

One thing is sure: Movie stars don’t take roles in movies like “Fuze” unless they’re being offered something interesting to play, which means that the instant Theo James and Sam Worthington appear (or step from the shadows), our interest shifts from the bomb to whatever these two and their accomplices are up to. For nearly the first half of the film, composer Tony Doogan layers a steady synthetic heartbeat beneath the action, which gains little from this trick. If we’re invested, it’s because the cast telegraphs that these characters are important.

James’s character talks with a South African accent and goes by the name Karalis, and though he comes across as a villain at first, it’s too early to say if that’s true. Karalis supplies his colleagues with fluorescent orange utility uniforms and stealthily leads them through the back door of the Bank Al Muraqabah, located just below Rahim’s building. While Tranter tinkers and Zuzana monitors the wall of local surveillance footage, Karalis and his team get to work drilling through the wall of the vault. Clearly, it’s no coincidence that they picked this moment to rob the bank. But what is their greater goal?

Mackenzie’s a good director — good enough to make the sheer preposterous of this heist seem plausible — but he saves the thing that would make us root for these characters until the very end. Meanwhile, it’s not clear who’s side we’re meant to take, which complicates things once a scheme that couldn’t possibly have gone according to plan starts to unravel in unexpected and potentially upsetting ways. By this point, there are plot holes bigger than the one this bomb might tear in the London map.

How did the bomb get to the building site? Who’s the bloke whose safety deposit box Karalis is after, and why isn’t he a character? Is Zuzana the only one trying to stop the scheme, and what kind of thriller is that, where you leave it to the criminals to eliminate one another? There’s an element of sleek, Jean-Pierre Melville-style efficiency to the operation, if not Michael Mann-level theatrics. “Fuze” shares the French director’s code of honor between men, no matter which side of the law they inhabit, as seen in films such as “The Red Circle” and “Army of Shadows.”

Apart from one shocking death (when Tranter switches from neutralizing bombs up close to eliminating threats with his long-range rifle), the action is entertaining enough in the moment, but not especially memorable. The most explosive scene isn’t the one you expect, but the coda in which we learn why three characters are so unwaveringly loyal, when everyone else seems ready to double-cross each other at the first opportunity. It’s in that moment that the film’s fuze is set. Can Tranter or anyone stop it?

Anushka Sharma’s Recent Outing in London Delights Fans on Social Media

by jummy84 September 4, 2025
written by jummy84

Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma, one of India’s most admired couples, often choose to stay away from the spotlight. Yet every glimpse of them has the power to set social media buzzing. Recently, a candid picture of Anushka, shared by a friend, caught everyone’s attention. In the photo taken in London, she looks effortlessly chic in a relaxed oversized blue and white striped button-down shirt paired with wide leg blue jeans, a look that radiates comfort and ease.

The couple’s presence these days is felt mostly through fleeting moments, either from friends’ social media posts or short clips captured by fans. Just a few days ago, another video went viral where Virat and Anushka were spotted strolling on the streets and warmly interacting with someone. Their rare appearances together have only added to the curiosity and admiration surrounding them.

At the same time, Anushka’s name recently surfaced in online discussions after an old video of actress Mrunal Thakur reappeared. In it, Mrunal reflected on rejecting films in her early career and mentioned how those choices eventually worked in her favour. While she did not directly name Anushka, her remark about someone “not working at the moment” was quickly linked to her, sparking speculation and debate across social media.

The last time fans saw Virat and Anushka in India was during the IPL when Royal Challengers Bengaluru finally lifted the trophy after 18 long years. The couple’s dreamy pictures with the trophy and their heartfelt celebrations still remain fresh in the minds of admirers. As the wait for their next public appearance continues, even the smallest glimpse of them together feels like a celebration for their fans.

Mediawan's Plan B to Plant Flag in London With Baby Reindeer Producer

Mediawan’s Plan B to Plant Flag in London With Baby Reindeer Producer

by jummy84 September 4, 2025
written by jummy84

Hot of the heels of its racing drama blockbuster “F1: The Movie” and Emmy-nominated limited series “Adolescence,” Brad Pitt‘s L.A.-based Plan B Entertainment is planting its flag in London. Ed Macdonald, the well-respected British producer of “Baby Reindeer,” is on board to run the offspring banner which is part of Mediawan, the European powerhouse headed by Pierre-Antoine Capton since 2022.

The London banner marks the first international outpost of Plan B, the Oscar winning company co-led by Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner. It’s also part of a global strategy bolstered by its parent company, Mediawan, the Paris-headquartered powerhouse headed by CEO Pierre-Antoine Capton that comprises over 80 production labels across 13 countries.

Luring Macdonald is a major coup for Plan B and Mediawan. He’s joining from Clerkenwell Films, where he worked for nearly 16 years and spearheaded a string of hits, including the BAFTA-winning “The End of the F***ing World” and the Emmy-winning Netflix global phenomenon “Baby Reindeer,” and also worked on the adaptation of Nick Cave’s cult novel “The Death of Bunny Munro” for Sky.

Over at Plan B Europe, Macdonald will focus on developing TV content in the U.K. and Europe and will work closely with Nina Wolarsky, Plan B’s U.S.-based head of television.

“I have loved my years at Clerkenwell — I’m grateful for the friendships forged and deeply proud of the work we’ve made together. But it’s with huge excitement that I’m now joining the Plan B family,” said Macdonald, adding that he’s “long admired Brad, Dede and Jeremy’s instinct for eclectic, resonant stories.”

He said he looks forward to “working alongside them to establish the company’s European division, with the support of Mediawan and their nurturing, producer-led ethos,” and “build upon Plan B’s legacy and to keep doing what I love — making vivid, high-quality television with the most talented storytellers in the world.”

The new European base will foster ongoing growth for Plan B, particularly increased production of premium series in the U.K. and across Europe, and will also mark a next step in the integration of Plan B within Mediawan.

Plan B is already collaborating with Mediawan-owned companies or IP on several projects, such as “Weekend Rebels,” the Apple movie starring Mark Wahlberg that’s adapted from the German film “Weekend Warriors” and is developed by Wiedemann & Berg, which is part of Leonine Studios, a Mediawan Company; “The Man with a Thousand Faces,” the series adaptation of Sonia Kronlund’s book by the showrunner of “Call My Agent!,” Fanny Herrero, with Atlantique Productions, a Mediawan subsidiary; and the U.S. series adaptation of the Mediawan hit show “Call My Agent!” set in the world of sports.

The new overseas outpost will also give Plan B more options to finance projects, tapping into the U.K.’s unique position as a bridge between the U.S. and European industries and as one of Europe’s most attractive hubs for film and TV funding.

In a statement, Pitt, Gardner and Kleiner said they’re “thrilled to expand Plan B’s footprint in Europe by bringing Ed Macdonald on board.”

“Building on our artistic ambition, we’re excited to deepen our commitment to premium television and to explore new creative partnerships across the U.K. and Europe,” the trio stated, adding that “with Ed’s exceptional track record and the support of Mediawan group, (they) look forward to captivating audiences around the world with ambitious new series.”

Plan B already enjoys strong relations in the U.K., not only with Netflix with whom it collaborated for “Adolescence,” but also with the BBC which commissioned Raine Allen-Miller’s “The Roots Manoeuvre,” the follow up to her BAFTA nominated “Rye Lane;” and with Film 4, which ordered from Plan B Phillippa Lowthorpe’s adaptation of “H is For Hawk.”

Capton and Elisabeth d’Arvieu, CEO of Mediawan Pictures, said Plan B’s move across the Atlantic underscores the “richness and dynamism of France’s creative ecosystem – with its outstanding filming locations and robust financial support schemes.”

“These have enabled us, from France, to build with Mediawan an international studio to support talents and stories around the world. Today, the creation of Plan B Europe marks a key milestone in our international growth strategy and further strengthens the European DNA of the Mediawan group.”

The broadening of Plan B’s geographical footprint could inspire other outfits with Mediawan. Capton told Variety that Mediawan “keeps a close watch on opportunities in all key markets.”

“Our talents share an international outlook and a strong curiosity to collaborate with other professionals, IPs, and formats,” and as such Mediawan “explores potential expansions wherever creativity thrives, while also developing strong synergies across our group worldwide.”

While it’s based in France, Mediawan has been ramping up its presence in English-speaking markets in the last three years, with recent acquisitions such as See-Saw Films, The British-Australian indie company behind “Slow Horses,” and LeBron James’ and Maverick Carter’s SpringHill, on top of Drama Republic (“One Day,” “The English”) and Misfits Entertainment (“Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story”) in the U.K.

Plan B is rolling off of “F1: The Movie,” which became Pitt’s and Apple’s highest-grossing movie to date, grossing over $613 million worldwide, prompting a return to IMAX theaters last month. The company has also produced ambitious director-driven movies, such as Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” RaMell Ross’s Oscar-nominated “Nickel Boys,” and Bong Joon-ho’s “Mickey 17.”

Plan B’s television work has been equally applauded, in particular “Adolescence,” the Netflix mini-series created by Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne that struck a chord and has earned 13 nominations at the Primetime Emmy Awards; “Three Body Problem,” nominated for six primetime Emmy Awards; and the “Lego Masters” series; alongside documentaries (via its joint venture with Oscar-winning filmmaker Kevin Macdonald) such as “Apocalypse in The Tropics” and “One to One.” Plan B also made its Tony-nominated theater debut with “Enemy of the People,” and recently scored an audio success for Audible with “What Could Go Wrong.”

‘You are part of the largest pro wrestling crowd ever in The O2…’ AEW Forbidden Door breaks attendance record at iconic London venue

by jummy84 August 25, 2025
written by jummy84

25 August 2025

AEW Forbidden Door set a new attendance record for a wrestling event at The O2 arena in London on Sunday night (24.08.25).

AEW President Tony Khan with Brodido at the Forbidden Door post-show press conference

The pay-per-view super show – which was co-produced by American promotion All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and Japan-based New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) – was watched by 18,992 fans inside the iconic venue beating the previous record of 17,617 fans set by WWE’s Money in the Bank event in 2023.

AEW commentator Tony Schiavone entered the ring to tell fans they had set the new record to huge cheers and screams of approval.

Schiavone, 67, said: “You are part of the largest pro wrestling crowd ever in The O2 – 18,992 fans! Thank you very much for tonight!”

Those fans saw a packed card of astonishing matches, including a Four-way match for the AEW TBS Championship in which Mercedes Moné successfully defended her championship against Alex Windsor, Bozilla and Persephone by pinfall and “Hangman” Adam Page defeating MJF by pinfall to remain AEW World Champion in a bloody encounter.

The main event saw the team of Darby Allin, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Will Ospreay and Golden Lovers (Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi) defeat the rival team of Gabe Kidd, Death Riders (Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli) and The Young Bucks (Nick Jackson and Matt Jackson) in a brutal Lights Out Steel Cage match.

AEW President Tony Khan was thrilled to have set a new wrestling attendance record at The O2, and insisted it was further proof of the incredible growth that the company has made in 2025.

Khan, 42, also thanked AEW’s partner promotions that helped make Forbidden Door an unforgettable event.

Speaking at post-show press conference attended by BANG Showbiz and other media, he said: “It means so much. First of all the only thing better than AEW breaking the attendance record in this building, the most pro wrestling fans to attend a show at London’s O2 Arena, 18,992 people here for this show, the only thing better than AEW breaking this record is AEW together with New Japan Pro Wrestling breaking this record as a partnership and in collaboration.

“This year it was even more special to be joined by partners from around the world, to have wrestlers from CMLL (Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre), Stardom (World Wonder Ring Stardom), even Rev Pro (Revolution Pro Wrestling) represented. It was really, really cool. It’s an historic night for us, it’s been an historic year for AEW. I think 2025 has been the best year of AEW and it’s amazing to think the last time we did AEW here in London how far we’ve come, how many things have changed.

“I really believe that 2025 has been our best year, I’m so proud to keep putting great nights and great moments and achievements together.”

Khan also announced that he will be bringing the AEW Continental Classic tournament to the UK for the first time when AEW returns to Britain for two nights in December 2025 before coming to Wembley Stadium in 2026.

He said: “We will be back here next year at Wembley Stadium. But I’m not going to wait until next year to bring AEW back to the UK, we’re coming back this year!

“For the first time ever we’re coming back in December to the UK, we will go back to Cardiff for Collision, December 13th, and we will debut AEW in Manchester on December 17th. I can’t wait to bring AEW here. And for the first time the Continental Classic is coming abroad.”

The AEW press conference was hosted by Renee Paquette and as well as Tony Khan it was attended by AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Moné, AEW TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher and Brodido – Brody King and Bandido, pictured – who were crowned new AEW World Tag Team Champions on the night after they defeated defending champions The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin) and FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood) (with Stokely) by pinfall in a Three-way tag team match.
