5 Albums I Can’t Live Without: Milo Aukerman of the Descendents

by jummy84 October 3, 2025
written by jummy84

Name  Milo Aukerman

Best known for  Going to college, for some reason.

Current city  Newark, Delaware.

Really want to be in  Colorado, where I can go on hikes and practice with the Descendents (and record at the Blasting Room!).

Excited to  Go on tour to Canada in a few weeks. I’ve always secretly wished I was Canadian, and now more so than ever. Hey Canada, I know our government sucks, but don’t take it out on me, please!

My current music collection has a lot of  Cars, Kinks, Bob Mould, Bad Brains, Black Flag.

And a little of  Little Chair, but that’s only because there’s not a lot of Little Chair. If there was a lot of Little Chair, that would be better.

Preferred format  Radio in the car. Vinyl albums around the house, when I get noise ordinance clearance.  When it’s “for me only,” I’ll pop in earbuds and do Spotify.

5 Albums I Can’t Live Without:

1

Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!, DEVO

This served as a manifesto for my teen nerd years. Yeah, maybe it’s new wave, but I loved the aggressive guitar chording that would soon have me searching for harder, faster punk stuff.  And most of the songs are hilarious, made even funnier by the band’s attempts to pass it all off as serious.

2

Los Angeles, X

First saw them open for DEVO, and after hearing them on KROQ (Rodney on the ROQ), they became my favorite band. I love the weird harmonies between John Doe and Exene, the in-your-face yet intelligent lyrics, and of course the coolness of Billy Zoom.  In those pre-merch days I made myself a T-shirt of the album cover using spray paint and an X-Acto knife (appropriate tool, eh?), thus destroying the sleeve…

3

(GI), Germs

This album is “slick mayhem”—maybe the first hardcore punk album, but Joan Jett gave it a tight, professional sound. Pat Smear’s tasty guitar licks inserted neatly between buzz-saw chords, and Darby Crash’s poetry-as-lyrics were inscrutable, but also evidence of a dark, twisted genius. I only saw them play once, and then Darby killed himself a few days later.

4

Look Again, The Last

These guys lived in Hermosa Beach, near me and Bill, and they gave us a copy of the Look Again test pressing back in 1980. But it only got released for real in the last few years! Bill and I worshipped the Last, and did a deep study of all their stuff, but especially this album. Every single song is classic power pop.

5

Revolver, The Beatles

Growing up, I had the U.S. version that lacked three of John Lennon’s songs, so when I play the U.K. version, it sounds… wrong. Even though those are great Lennon songs! But when you play an album over and over again like I did with this one, it just has to go the way you heard it as a kid. So, yeah, McCartney-heavy, but he wasn’t messing around on this one.  Some true masterpieces.

CNN Live News Stream Being Pulled From HBO Max

by jummy84 October 3, 2025
written by jummy84

CNN Max, the cable news network’s live news stream, will no longer be available on HBO Max starting on Nov. 17.

CNN is about the launch is own streaming channel this fall, although an exact launch dates has not yet been announced.

HBO Max will continue to stream CNN Originals like Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy and The Whole Story with Anderson Cooper.

Alex MacCallum, executive vice president of digital products and services for CNN, said in a statement, “CNN has benefitted tremendously from its two years of offering a live 24/7 feed of news to HBO Max customers. We learned from HBO Max’s large base of subscribers what people want and enjoy the most from CNN, and with the launch of our own new streaming subscription offering coming later this fall, we look forward to building off that and growing our audience with this unique, new offering.”

CNN launched the livestream in the fall of 2023, after the short life of another streaming venture, CNN+.

The new subscription streaming offering will feature a selection of live channels and on-demand programming, designed to put all of the network’s video offerings in one place. Warner Bros. Discovery, meanwhile, changed the name of Max back to HBO Max earlier this year, reflecting a reversion to a narrower selection of content offerings.

Foo Fighters Release Are Playing Where ??? Vol. 1 Live Album Exclusively on Bandcamp

by jummy84 October 3, 2025
written by jummy84

It’s the next best thing to catching a surprise Foo Fighters show.

Dave Grohl and company have a shared a new live album, Foo Fighters – Are Playing Where ??? Vol. 1, for this week’s Bandcamp Friday.

The album is made up of “absolutely ripping live tracks recorded in front of dozens, possibly hundreds of lucky fans at the band’s recent surprise club gigs,” according to a press release. The tracklist includes performances of “Alone + Easy Target,” “Exhausted,” “Watershed,” “Weenie Beenie,” “White Limo,” and “Winnebago.”

The Bandcamp exclusive is available as a “pay what you want” release, with all proceeds going to local charities combating food insecurity in the four cities where the shows took place.

Last month, the band played the first of their surprise shows at the Fremont Theater in San Luis Obispo, California, where they debuted new drummer, Ilan Rubin, who joined the band in a swap of sorts with Nine Inch Nails, who now feature the Foo Fighters’ previous drummer, Josh Freese.

This past July, Foo Fighters released a new song, titled “Today’s Song,” which coincided with the 30th anniversary of the band’s 1995 debut.

Foo Fighters Drop Live EP For Bandcamp Friday

by jummy84 October 3, 2025
written by jummy84

Foo Fighters are rewarding fans who didn’t get a chance to see them at four surprise club shows in recent weeks with a live EP, Foo Fighters – Are Playing Where ???  Vol. 1, which is exclusively available now as a pay-your-own-price download for Bandcamp Friday.

Accurately described as “six absolutely ripping live tracks recorded in front of dozens, possibly hundreds of lucky fans,” the EP consists of five songs from Foo Fighters’ beloved 1995 self-titled debut and one each from 2011’s Wasting Light (“White Limo”).

Several cuts from the debut, such as “Winnebago” and “Exhausted,” hadn’t been performed since 2014, while “Weenie Beenie” had only been aired three times since then. They benefit greatly from the arrival of powerful new drummer Ilan Rubin, whose first show with the Foos was Sept. 13 in San Luis Obispo, Ca.

Proceeds from Are Playing Where will benefit local charities combating food insecurity in cities where the Foos recently played, which also included Santa Ana, Ca., Washington, D.C., and New Haven, Ct. “And while you’re there, check out and support some other artists,” the band says. “Discover something new or rediscover some old favorites.”

Bandcamp Fridays began in March 2020 as a way to help artists offset lost touring revenue at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. By waiving its revenue share on these days, Bandcamp has generated an additional $120 million in direct payments to artists and labels.

Foo Fighters just began an Asian tour yesterday (Oct. 2) in Jakarta and will perform tomorrow at the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix. The group is expected to release a new studio in 2026 and tour behind it extensively.

Here is the track list for Foo Fighters – Are Playing Where ???  Vol. 1:

“Alone + Easy Target”
“Exhausted”
“Low”
“Wattershed”
“Weenie Beenie”
“White Limo”
“Winnebago”

Foo Fighters Release New Live EP: Listen

by jummy84 October 3, 2025
written by jummy84

Foo Fighters have surprise-released a new live EP. Are Playing Where ???? Vol. 1 was captured across the surprise club shows that the band played across the U.S. in September. It’s available exclusively on Bandcamp, with proceeds going towards local charities working to combat food insecurity in San Luis Obispo and Santa Ana, California, Washington, D.C., and New Haven, Connecticut—the four cities where the gigs took place. Listen to Are Playing Where ???? Vol. 1 below.

Foo Fighters shared their latest studio album, But Here We Are, in 2023. The LP was recorded after the death of the band’s longtime drummer, Taylor Hawkins, in 2022. Earlier this year, Dave Grohl & co. parted ways with Hawkins’ replacement, Josh Freese, and hired Nine Inch Nails drummer Ilan Rubin; Freese then ended up joining Nine Inch Nails. Foo Fighters recently covered Minor Threat’s “I Don’t Wanna Hear It” and shared “Today’s Song,” their first original music since the release of But Here We Are.

₹47 crore, beats Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava”>

Kantara Chapter 1 box office collection day 1 (updated live): The Rishab Shetty film opened to positive reviews, with many praising the lead performance.

Kantara Chapter 1 box office collection day 1 (updated live): Rishab Shetty’s prequel to 2022’s Kantara is one of the most anticipated releases of the year. The Dusshera release is not just one of the most high-profile Kannada films of all time, but also among the biggest festive releases pan-India this year. According to the latest update, Kantara Chapter 1 has already surpassed the ₹40 crore mark.

Kantara Chapter 1 box office collection (updated live): Rishab Shetty film is looking at a bumper opening.

Kantara Chapter 1 box office update at 7 PM

The Sacnilk report states that Kantara Chapter 1 collected ₹47.76 crore on its opening day of release. The film is expected to cross the ₹50 crore mark by the end of the day. It has already crossed the opening day collections of several hit films of the year, including Saiyaara ( ₹22 crore), Sikandar ( ₹26 crore), and Chhaava ( ₹31 crore). Can it beat Pawan Kalyan’s OG ( ₹84 crore) and Rajinikanth’s Coolie ( ₹65 crore)? It seems unlikely.

Jr NTR tweeted about the film and wrote, “Congratulations to the team of #KantaraChapter1 on scoring a resounding success. @shetty_rishab sir pulled off the unthinkable by excelling both as a mindblowing actor and a brilliant director. My best wishes to the entire cast and crew, along with @hombalefilms, for fearlessly backing Rishab sir’s vision.”

HT review of Kantara

An excerpt from the Hindustan Times review of the film read, “Rishab Shetty balances the folk traditions that have inspired the film with modern sensibilities better this time around. Chapter 1 gives its women more agency than the first film ever did. But even this one can’t resist the knight-in-shining-armour trope. However strong the woman is, a man must rescue her in the end. Rishab Shetty’s writing seems to allow women to have power and independence only when they rebel or antagonise. Otherwise, it is reduced to tokenism. However, still props to the writer-director for giving a female character more prominence this time around, and even giving her some of the most powerful moments in the film.”

Navigating the Ups and Downs of Live Music Today

by jummy84 October 1, 2025
written by jummy84

Live music tours are an excellent way for artists to generate revenue and meet fans out on the road, but aspiring artists should know that there’s much more than meets the eye when it comes to organizing and managing these tours.

Whether it’s dealing with legal protections, economics, or logistics, the touring industry has a lot going on behind the scenes, all of which needs to work in harmony if a given tour is to go off without a hitch.

Perhaps one of the lesser known aspects of preparing for a tour is establishing clear legal infrastructure beforehand. If there are injuries, legal professionals like John Foy can help manage liability and compensation, but there are other preparatory measures artists can take to cover liability. Contracts and insurance are two of the most common legal protections, as they clearly lay out terms and costs in advance.

While touring offers artists the chance to see their fans in person, a more practical rationale behind touring is the revenue it brings in. A clear, if not perhaps extreme, example of this is Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, which generated billions of dollars globally. Given the sheer amount of revenue they bring in, major artists likely don’t need to rely on touring for their business to survive, but that’s not always the case for smaller groups.

With streaming now serving as the dominant form of listening to music, record sales are declining, resulting in the loss of what was once a fairly reliable source of income. As a result, artists are often forced to go on tour and sell merchandise at events if they are to remain successful in the music industry.

Depending on the size of the artist and the venues they tour at, logistics can be one of the more labor intensive aspects of touring. Components like crew, transport, equipment, and safety planning have to be considered and accommodated every time an artist goes from one venue to the next, making nationwide and international tours something of a logistical nightmare.

For those that can afford it, having a business manager can smooth out many of these processes since they typically have more experience with these matters than the artists they work with.

Still, as an article notes, “not only do the business managers have to sort through the various tax and labor laws, exchange rates and transportation and lodging issues, they need to make sure the venues can handle the size and the weight of the stage, lights and set dressing.” These tasks are certainly daunting, but if properly managed, artists can avoid potential fines and penalties.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, many public spaces, like venues, have implemented policies and regulations influencing health precautions, cancellations, and remote engagements. Adhering to these regulations presents new challenges to touring, sometimes necessitating the help of legal teams to navigate and break down how best to comply with these policies in an efficient manner.

The music industry remains in a state of flux. Streaming services have grown in popularity due to their accessibility, but recent issues concerning unfair distribution of payment have made them less than lucrative for smaller artists. With record sales also trending down, that leaves touring and live performances as many artists’ financial lifelines.

Touring can be extremely rewarding, both mentally and financially, but recognizing what all contributes to a successful tour is the first step in attaining those rewards.

FAQs

Q: What logistical challenges do touring artists have to accommodate for?

A: Transportation, crew, safety measures, and equipment are usually considered the most essential components to plan for.

Q: Why is touring so important for many artists today?

A: Touring and playing at live shows often serve as an artist’s primary revenue stream since record sales are less profitable than in the past.

Q: What role do legal professionals fill for touring artists?

A: Legal professionals can manage compensation and liability for an artist.
