Sinclair Puts Charlie Kirk Special On YouTube Instead Of Kimmel’s Slot

by jummy84 September 21, 2025
written by jummy84

After announcing a Charlie Kirk tribute special to take over Jimmy Kimmel‘s time slot, Sinclair backed out of Friday’s planned programming.

The country’s largest ABC affiliate group instead shared a YouTube link to the special after making an example of Jimmy Kimmel Live! in a statement announcing they would be giving the remembrance his late-night slot.

“Tonight, Sinclair will continue to air ABC network programming as scheduled in the late-night time period,” the company shared in a Friday update on X. “The Charlie Kirk special will instead be available on The National News Desk’s YouTube channel, ensuring viewers can continue to enjoy ABC programming while also providing full access to the special online.”

The latest comes after Disney‘s announcement that the late-night show will be “preempted indefinitely,” following the FCC‘s warning about Kimmel’s Kirk comments.

In a news release, Sinclair previously announced that they will not lift the suspension on Kimmel’s show “until formal discussions are held with ABC regarding the network’s commitment to professionalism and accountability.”

“Sinclair also calls upon Mr. Kimmel to issue a direct apology to the Kirk family. Furthermore, we ask Mr. Kimmel to make a meaningful personal donation to the Kirk Family and Turning Point USA,” the statement continued. “Regardless of ABC’s plans for the future of the program, Sinclair intends not to return Jimmy Kimmel Live! to our air until we are confident that appropriate steps have been taken to uphold the standards expected of a national broadcast platform.”

Sinclair Vice Chairman Jason Smith said in a statement, “Mr. Kimmel’s remarks were inappropriate and deeply insensitive at a critical moment for our country. We believe broadcasters have a responsibility to educate and elevate respectful, constructive dialogue in our communities. We appreciate FCC Chairman Carr’s remarks today and this incident highlights the critical need for the FCC to take immediate regulatory action to address control held over local broadcasters by the big national networks.”

The stunning suspension of Kimmel comes mere minutes after Nexstar also axed his late-night show on the 32 ABC affiliates it owns out of a total of 200 stations throughout the nation.

‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’

“Nexstar’s owned and partner television stations affiliated with the ABC Television Network will preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the foreseeable future beginning with tonight’s show,” said the company in a statement Wednesday. “Nexstar strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.”

Known for his ‘Prove Me Wrong’ debates and MAGA POV, activist Kirk was shot dead at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10 in a tragedy that has sent shock through the political and media worlds.

Having previously mocked Trump over POTUS’ take on the NFL and TikTok, Kimmel offered his blunt assessment of the aftermath of Kirk’s death in his opening monologue on his September 15 show: “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” the host said.

Here’s what Jimmy Kimmel said about the Charlie Kirk shooting – National

by jummy84 September 19, 2025

Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, was taken off the air “indefinitely” Wednesday following remarks he made on Monday night about the shooting death of Charlie Kirk.

During Monday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the host spoke about Kirk, who was shot and killed last week while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it. In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving,” Kimmel said in his monologue Monday.

“On Friday, the White House flew the flags at half staff, which got some criticism, but on a human level, you can see how hard the president is taking this.”

Kimmel, 57, then cut to a clip, showing U.S. President Donald Trump taking questions from reporters after the shooting. One of the reporters offered their condolences for the death of Trump’s “friend” Kirk.

When Trump was asked how he was holding up, he said, “I think very good, and by the way, right there where you see all the trucks, they just started construction of the new ballroom for the White House.”

Trump went on to discuss the plans for the White House ballroom and said the results will “be a beauty.”

When the camera cut back to Kimmel, he said, “Yes, he’s at the fourth stage of grief: construction.”

“Demolition, construction. This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend,” Kimmel said. “This is how a four-year-old mourns a goldfish, OK?”

Kimmel claimed that Trump’s comments “didn’t just happen once” and shared a clip from Trump’s appearance on Fox & Friends from Sept. 12, when he spoke about what he was doing when he first heard of Kirk’s death.

“When I heard it, I was in the midst of, you know, building a great — for 150 years they’ve wanted a ballroom at the White House, right? They don’t have a ballroom. They have to use tents on the lawn for President Xi when he comes over. If it rains, it’s a wipeout,” Trump said during his appearance.

Trump said he was with the architects planning the design for the ballroom when someone told him Kirk was dead.

“And then we installed the most beautiful chandelier,” Kimmel told his audience. “Sconces you wouldn’t believe.

“There’s something wrong with him, there really is. Who thinks like that? Why are we building a $200-million ballroom in the White House? Is it possible he’s doing it intentionally so we can be mad about that instead of the Epstein list? By the time he’s out of office, the White House will have slot machines and a water slide.”

ABC, which has aired Kimmel’s late-night show since 2003, moved swiftly after Nexstar Communications Group said it would pull the show starting Wednesday following Kimmel’s comments.

Kimmel’s comments about Kirk’s death “are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse,” said Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar’s broadcasting division. Nexstar operates 23 ABC affiliates.

Earlier in the day, Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr called Kimmel’s comments “truly sick” and said his agency has a strong case for holding Kimmel, ABC and network parent Walt Disney Co. accountable for spreading misinformation.

“This is a very, very serious issue right now for Disney,” Carr said on The Benny Show, a podcast hosted by Benny Johnson. “We can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to take action on Kimmel or there is going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”

The 57-year-old comedian has not released a statement following ABC’s decision to pull his show but many others, including the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, have spoken out against the move.

“SAG-AFTRA condemns the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live!” SAG-AFTRA’s statement read.

“Our society depends on freedom of expression. Suppression of free speech and retaliation for speaking out on significant issues of public concern run counter to the fundamental rights we all rely on. Democracy thrives when diverse points of view are expressed.

“The decision to suspend airing Jimmy Kimmel Live! is the type of suppression and retaliation that endangers everyone’s freedoms. SAG-AFTRA stands with all media artists and defends their right to express their diverse points of view, and everyone’s right to hear them.”

Democratic leaders in the U.S. House on Thursday called on Carr to resign after he pressured Walt Disney and ABC affiliates to stop airing Jimmy Kimmel Live! after Kimmel’s comments about Kirk.

Jeffries and other leaders said Carr has “disgraced the office he holds by bullying ABC, the employer of Jimmy Kimmel, and forcing the company to bend the knee to the Trump administration.”

“Donald Trump and the Republican Party’s war on the First Amendment is blatantly inconsistent with American values. Media companies, such as the one that suspended Mr. Kimmel, have a lot to explain,” Jeffries wrote. “The censoring of artists and cancellation of shows is an act of cowardice. It may also be part of a corrupt pay-to-play scheme.

“House Democrats will make sure the American people learn the truth, even if that requires the relentless unleashing of congressional subpoena power. This will not be forgotten.”

On Wednesday, Trump applauded ABC’s decision to pull Kimmel’s show, writing, “Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED.”

“Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible,” he wrote Wednesday on Truth Social. “That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!! President DJT”

Trump also spoke about Kimmel during a press conference on Thursday with U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Chequers, Starmer’s country house in the English town of Aylesbury.

When asked about the dismissal of Kimmel and free speech in America, Trump said, “Well, Jimmy Kimmel was fired because he had bad ratings more than anything else.”

“He said a horrible thing about a great gentleman known as Charlie Kirk. And Jimmy Kimmel is not a talented person. He had very bad ratings and they should have fired him a long time ago,” Trump continued. “So, you know, you can call that free speech or not. He was fired for lack of talent.”

Carr also said he agreed with the decision, telling Fox News’ Sean Hannity that he was “very glad to see that America’s broadcasters are standing up to serve the interests of their community.”

“We don’t just have this progressive foie gras coming out from New York and Hollywood,” he added.

Disney representatives, Kimmel searched for way to defuse Kirk anger before program pulled

Disney representatives, Kimmel searched for way to defuse Kirk anger before program pulled

– Walt Disney representatives and talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel raced to find the right words on Wednesday to calm a social media furor that erupted following criticism of his remarks about slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters.

Kimmel’s comments in his monologue on Monday had angered many, and the reaction reached a fever pitch on Wednesday, including death threats that raised concerns for the safety of Kimmel and his staff, the source said. The late-night host prepared to make a statement, but Kimmel and Disney representatives could not find language that they agreed would not further inflame the situation, the source said.

As the show’s 4:30 p.m. taping time approached, Disney CEO Bob Iger and Disney Entertainment co-Chairman Dana Walden agreed that the best approach would be to take the show off the air and later find a way to bring Kimmel back, the source said. Walden informed Kimmel of the decision.

A representative for Kimmel did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment.

Executives will meet with Kimmel to discuss the future of his program, Bloomberg News reported on Thursday, citing three people with knowledge of the matter.

Disney-owned ABC said it pulled Kimmel’s show off the air over comments by the late-night show host about the assassination of Kirk, a 31-year-old conservative activist and co-founder of the nonprofit Turning Point USA and a close political ally of President Donald Trump. Many in Hollywood decried the decision, saying the company was bowing to political pressure and that it was an assault on free speech.

Kimmel, who has frequently targeted Trump on his comedy show, said in his monologue on Monday: “We hit some new lows over the weekend, with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

As Disney wrestled with the gathering social media controversy, Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr, in a podcast appearance on Wednesday, said that Kimmel had misled viewers about the alleged shooter’s MAGA affiliation. Carr also raised the possibility that the FCC could revoke the broadcast licenses of local television stations that carry such “garbage.”

“We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” Carr said in an interview with conservative podcaster Benny Johnson. “These companies can find ways to change conduct and take action, frankly, on Kimmel.”

The nation’s largest local television station group, Nexstar Media, and Sinclair Broadcast Group, which owns many of ABC’s local TV affiliates, said they would stop airing the show following Kimmel’s monologue. Sinclair said Kimmel’s show would be suspended until he apologizes to the Kirk family. Nexstar and Sinclair both have merger deals pending before the FCC.

Trump, during a state visit to Britain on Thursday, said Kimmel had been punished for saying “a horrible thing” about Kirk, who is credited with building support for Trump among young conservative voters.

Jimmy Kimmel is the latest late-night television host to face a problem with a network. Just months after Stephen Colbert‘s CBS show was gutted, Jimmy Kimmel Live! was pulled off the air “indefinitely” after Kimmel made a comment about the murder of Charlie Kirk and the suspected shooter, Tyler Robinson.

“Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be pre-empted indefinitely,” an ABC representative said. According to CNN, the spokesperson declined to share further details.

So, what exactly did Kimmel say about Kirk and Robinson? We have the full comment below.

Why Was Jimmy Kimmel Suspended?

While ABC declined to elaborate on Kimmel’s suspension, Nexstar, an ABC affiliate, said it would not broadcast Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the “foreseeable future,” adding that it “strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.”

What Did Jimmy Kimmel Say About Charlie Kirk? His Condolences

Shortly after Kirk’s death was announced on September 10, 2025, Kimmel condemned political violence and sent his condolences to the late Turning Point USA founder’s family.

“Instead of the angry finger-pointing, can we just for one day agree that it is horrible and monstrous to shoot another human?” Kimmel wrote in an Instagram message. “On behalf of my family, we send love to the Kirks and to all the children, parents and innocents who fall victim to senseless gun violence.”

Kimmel then pointed out how Donald Trump responded to a reporter’s question on how he was coping with the death of his late friend Kirk.

“I think very good, and by the way, right there — do you see all the trucks?” the president asked. “They just started construction for the new ballroom for the White House, which is something they’ve been trying to get as, you know, for about 150 years. And it’s gonna be a beauty.”

Kimmel Replaced by ‘Celebrity Family Feud’ Over Charlie Kirk Comments: Will Show Be Back?

by jummy84 September 18, 2025
written by jummy84

Jimmy Kimmel Live! was replaced by a repeat of Celebrity Family Feud on Wednesday night (September 17) after ABC pulled the late-night show over comments Jimmy Kimmel made about the Charlie Kirk shooting.

Earlier on Wednesday, a spokesperson for Disney’s ABC announced that the late-night talk show would be on indefinite hiatus following comments Kimmel made about Kirk, the conservative activist who was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University on September 10.

The comments people appeared to take offense to were made on Monday’s (September 15) show, when Kimmel said of the alleged shooter, “The MAGA Gang (is) desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

ABC made the decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel Live! after powerful station group Nexstar announced it would preempt the show on its 32 ABC affiliate stations. Sinclair Broadcast Group later announced it would be doing the same on its own affiliate stations.

Late Wednesday, a memo was sent to the owners of ABC’s more than 150 affiliate station partners, according to Variety. The memo stated that the network would be airing reruns of Celebrity Family Feud in the 11:35 pm slot on Wednesday and Thursday (September 18) in place of Kimmel’s show. “Formal guidance from Disney/ABC is forthcoming,” the memo also noted.

Per Variety, a source close to the situation claims that the network has not yet made a formal decision about the future of the long-running late-night program. Conversations between executives and Kimmel and his representatives were said to be ongoing throughout Wednesday.

It’s unclear whether Kimmel’s show will return on Friday (September 19) or if ABC will air other programming in its place. Sinclair announced it will be airing a special Kirk tribute show on its ABC affiliate stations on Friday and has also encouraged Kimmel to make a “direct apology” and “meaningful personal donation” to the Kirk family.

“Sinclair will not lift the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on our stations until formal discussions are held with ABC regarding the network’s commitment to professionalism and accountability,” the company said in a press release. “Sinclair also calls upon Mr. Kimmel to issue a direct apology to the Kirk family. Furthermore, we ask Mr. Kimmel to make a meaningful personal donation to the Kirk Family and Turning Point USA.”

The company is also offering its Kirk tribute special to all other ABC stations across the country.

After the news broke on Wednesday, many viewers and fellow celebrities spoke out against ABC’s move, with some saying it went against free speech and others leveling accusations of “corruption.”

The move comes as Nexstar is pushing for the FCC to change its limits on TV station ownership, which would allow it to acquire rival station group, Tegna. The FCC is currently led by veteran Republican member Brendan Carr, who was hand-picked by President Donald Trump last year.

Shortly after Jimmy Kimmel made comments related to the shooting of late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, ABC (a Disney affiliate) pulled his late-night television show off the air “indefinitely,” according to a September 17, 2025, statement from a representative. So, does this mean he was fired and his show is canceled?

“Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be pre-empted indefinitely,” an ABC spokesperson said. Per CNN, the rep declined to share further details.

The news comes on the heels of fellow late-night comedian Stephen Colbert‘s cancelation, which was confirmed by CBS this past summer. Colbert’s show ended up winning an Emmy Award.

Below, find out what Kimmel’s “indefinite” hiatus means for him and his show.

Was Jimmy Kimmel Fired by ABC?

Not necessarily, but an “indefinite” break from ABC hints at a future cancelation. ABC did not verify whether his show is actually canceled, or if he was fired.

However, Nexstar, an ABC-affiliated station, said it won’t broadcast Kimmel’s show for the “foreseeable future,” per CNN, adding that it “strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.”

What Does ABC Mean by ‘Pre-Empted Indefinitely’ for Kimmel?

ABC declined to elaborate any further on the matter, but a spokesperson said Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be “pre-empted indefinitely,” meaning that the late-night show has been stalled from airing for now.

What Did Jimmy Kimmel Say About Charlie Kirk? His Comments

Kimmel actually condemned the shooting of Kirk, which took place at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025.

“Instead of the angry finger-pointing, can we just for one day agree that it is horrible and monstrous to shoot another human?” Kimmel wrote on Instagram after Kirk died. “On behalf of my family, we send love to the Kirks and to all the children, parents and innocents who fall victim to senseless gun violence.”

What Did Jimmy Kimmel Say About Tyler Robinson?

After Tyler Robinson was named the primary suspect in Kirk’s murder, Kimmel said, “The MAGA Gang (is) desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it. In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving.”

ABC Pulls Jimmy Kimmel Live for Charlie Kirk Shooter Comment

by jummy84 September 18, 2025
written by jummy84

Jimmy Kimmel Live! has been pulled off the air by ABC indefinitely following comments made by Kimmel about the death of Charlie Kirk.

The network’s decision followed a series of dramatic developments on Wednesday, including a stern warning from FCC Chairman Brendan Carr directed at ABC, and a subsequent announcement from Nexstar, one of the nation’s largest owners of local TV stations, that it would preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live!

The uproar stems from comments Kimmel made during his monologues earlier in the week. “We had some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and with everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said during Monday’s monologue.

He followed that up on Tuesday by criticizing JD Vance and “many in Maga-land [who] are working very hard to capitalize on the murder of Charlie Kirk.” After dismissing Vance’s claim that “most of the lunatics in American politics today are proud members of the far left,” Kimmel countered by asking, “Who wanted to hang the guy who was vice president before you? Was that the liberal left? Or the toothless army who stormed the Capitol on January 6?”

During a podcast appearance on Wednesday, Carr called on Kimmel to apologize and threatened the FCC licenses of ABC affiliates. “What people don’t understand is that the broadcasters … have a license granted by us at the FCC, and that comes with it an obligation to operate in the public interest,” Carr said. “When we see stuff like this, look, we can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to change conduct, on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”

Nexstar, which is also amid a multi-billion merger that requires FCC approval, promptly announced that it would preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! “for the foreseeable future.” “Mr. Kimmel’s comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse, and we do not believe they reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located,” Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar’s broadcasting division, said in a statement. “Continuing to give Mr. Kimmel a broadcast platform in the communities we serve is simply not in the public interest at the current time, and we have made the difficult decision to preempt his show in an effort to let cooler heads prevail as we move toward the resumption of respectful, constructive dialogue.”

ABC itself soon followed suit, announcing that Kimmel’s show would be suspended indefinitely.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kimmel had planned to address the controversy on tonight’s episode, but has no plans to apologize.

With the Late Show with Stephen Colbert set to end in May 2026, only NBC’s late-night shows remain unaffected by the current political climate at this time. What happens next remains to be seen, but Kimmel’s current contract at ABC expires in 2026, and he told People magazine in February 2024 that it could be his last. He also recently obtained Italian citizenship.

Jimmy Kimmel Being Pulled Indefinitely by ABC over Charlie Kirk Comments

Jimmy Kimmel and his late night talk show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” are being “pre-empted indefinitely,” an ABC Spokesperson told IndieWire.

Several affiliate stations, including the largest in the country Nexstar, had objected to recent remarks by Kimmel about Charlie Kirk’s assassination, and in the wake of multiple threats, ABC and parent company Disney have taken that next step.

“Nexstar’s owned and partner television stations affiliated with the ABC Television Network will preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the foreseeable future beginning with tonight’s show. Nexstar strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.”

The FCC chairman Brendan Carr also threatened earlier this week fines against Disney if Kimmel was not off the air.

On Monday, Kimmel said during his monologue, “We had some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and with everything they can to score political points from it.”

Kimmel also played a clip during Tuesday’s monologue of Vice President JD Vance hosting Kirk’s show, calling Vance’s remarks on the program “complete bullshit” when the VP claimed it was a “statistical fact that most of the lunatics in American politics today are proud members of the left.”

“And by statistical fact, he means complete bullshit. So much so that the Department of Justice just removed the study that showed white supremacy and violence from far-right groups is the greatest source of domestic terror and violence in the United States. Who wanted to hang the guy who was vice president before you? Was that the liberal left or the toothless army who stormed the Capitol on January 6? The President and his henchmen are doing their best to fan the flames so they can, I guess, attack people on the dangerous left. Which is it, are they dangerous? Are they a bunch of sissy pickleball players because they’re too scared to get hit by tennis balls, or a well organized, deadly team of commandos? Because they can’t be both of those things.”

Kimmel following Kirk’s death also posted on Instagram asking, “Instead of the angry finger-pointing, can we just for one day agree that it is horrible and monstrous to shoot another human? On behalf of my family, we send love to the Kirks and to all the children, parents and innocents who fall victim to senseless gun violence.”

Kimmel’s show was nominated for a Primetime Emmy this year, and Kimmel himself won an Emmy this year for hosting “Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?” Kimmel has been on ABC since 2003 and has twice hosted the Oscars, which also air on ABC.

It’s unclear if ABC intends to replace Kimmel with another host or would keep a late night show at all. The Kimmel news comes in the wake of Stephen Colbert’s “The Late Show” also ending come next year. Paramount in announcing the show’s cancellation said it was due to the amount of money the show loses, but the announcement came shortly after Paramount settled Trump’s lawsuit with CBS News and “60 Minutes,” prompting some politicians to speculate that the cancellation was politically motivated.
