Tyrese Declares R. Kelly “King of R&B” During Chicago Show

by jummy84 September 5, 2025
written by jummy84

Tyrese is making headlines again, and this time, it’s for his support of R. Kelly at a recent concert. During a recent performance in Chicago, the ‘Sweet Lady’ singer proclaimed R. Kelly as the “King of R&B,” standing ten toes behind the incarcerated hitmaker despite his controversies. His comments come just weeks after Tyrese revealed how Mary J. Blige turned down a feature on one of two songs he sent her, chile. Here’s the lowdown…

Here’s What He Said About R. Kelly

On Sunday, August 31, Tyrese hit the stage at the Summer Jam R&B festival in Maywood Veterans Park, just outside Chicago. In true Tyrese fashion, he didn’t shy away from speaking his mind. During his set, he gave a shout-out to R. Kelly, calling him the undisputed “King of R&B.” In a clip shared by The Art Of Dialogue on X, Tyrese doubled down, saying, “I know the city I’m in. Imma say it again. Feel whatever you wanna feel, n***a, I got no f***s to give. The King of R&B is R. Kelly. Chi-Town, baby.” Tyrese stood firm, though, making it clear he wasn’t fazed by the possible backlash. Well, social media lit up, with fans debating on whether R. Kelly, despite his crimes, can still be deemed the King of the genre that made him famous. See reactions to the clip in the comments section HERE.

Tyrese Previously Said The Same Thing During His Interview With The Shade Room

Now, this ain’t the first time Tyrese has given a shoutout to R. Kelly for his contributions to music. During an exclusive sit-down with The Shade Room’s Thembi, he made it clear that he’s been riding for Kells for a minute. Tyrese argued that R. Kelly’s discography is unmatched, regardless of the controversies surrounding his name. Tyrese also noted that he wasn’t taking Kells’ personal matters into mind when thinking about the king of the genre; he’s solely focused on the music.

Additionally, he pointed out how Kelly’s songwriting and production shaped the sound of ’90s and 2000s R&B, from his own hits to collabs with artists including Aaliyah and Michael Jackson. “Who else but him? We’re not talking about him being in jail… all that controversy,” Tyrese said. When Thembi gave her own take, saying Usher was worthy of holding that title, Tyrese snapped, “Usher is not the King of R&B. I love Usher, but he’s not the King of R&B. […] Chris Brown is not the king to me.”

Tyrese Shares Hurt After Mary J. Blige Rejects Two of His Songs

In another emotional moment, Tyrese got candid about his disappointment with the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, Mary J. Blige. On September 1, Live Bitez captured a video where Tyrese poured his heart out about MJB passing on not one but two songs he crafted for her. “I tried my best to get Mary on two of my songs, but she passed on it,” he said, visibly hurt. “It’s okay. I’m hurt, I’m really hurt, I can’t lie.” Tyrese explained he went “mad scientist” in the studio, tailoring one track specifically for Mary, only to face rejection.

Despite the sting, he showed love, calling her his “Capricorn sister” and praising her heart, soul, and loyalty. “You’re one of one, Mary. I love you,” he said, adding. “I’m disappointed, but we got so much equity over all these years, I ain’t gon hold that to you.” Fans flooded the comments, some empathizing with Tyrese’s being so open about the situation, while others wondered if Mary had her reasons for passing.

Superhero films show violence that is ‘almost pornographic,’ says Stephen King: ‘That’s wrong’

Bestselling author Stephen King slammed the excessive violence that are in display in the superhero films that are made in Hollywood.

Another Stephen King book, The Long Walk, is gearing up for release. Starring David Jonsson (Industry), Ben Wang (Karate Kid: Legends), Charlie Plummer (Lean on Pete), and Cooper Hoffman (Licorice Pizza), the dystopian horror thriller film has many shocks and horrors. (Also read: Sydney Sweeney refuses to comment on her controversial jeans ad as she promotes her new film at Toronto Film Festival)

Stephen King asks whether Superhero films need to show so much violence?

About the film

But the author had a condition for this adaptation, given that the film showed the violence that takes place as a totalitarian regime forces a group of young men to enter an annual walking contest in which they must maintain a speed of at least three miles per hour or risk execution. He shared that with director Francis Lawrence and screenwriter JT Mollner.

What Stephen King said

Speaking to The Times UK, Stephen explained his choice and said, “If you look at these superhero movies, you’ll see some supervillain who’s destroying whole city blocks but you never see any blood. And man, that’s wrong. It’s almost, like, pornographic… I said [for The Long Walk], if you’re not going to show it, don’t bother. And so they made a pretty brutal movie.”

Mollner added, “Even though he was writing about specific things at the time, I feel that relevance is generational and wanted to make sure we had that. The beauty, love and the story of friendship along with the brutality of hopelessness and terror. We wanted to go all the way. I knew that Stephen King wanted us to go all the way. I knew Lionsgate wanted us to go all the way. If this book got into the wrong hands, studio or filmmakers. It could’ve been neutered. So, I’m very grateful we were able to keep the teeth that the book has.”

The Long Walk is set to release in theatres on September 12.

Ava Duvernay and Stacey Allaster accept Billie Jean King Champions of Equality award

NEW YORK — Filmmaker Ava Duvernay and U.S. Open tournament director Stacey Allaster accepted the Billie Jean King Champions of Equality Award on Thursday, in honor of their groundbreaking work in the film and sports industries.

Ava Duvernay and Stacey Allaster accept Billie Jean King Champions of Equality award

The award is given to trailblazers in gender equality, and was started in 2023 in honor of the 50th anniversary of King securing equal pay for women at the U.S. Open.

The event also recognized members from across the USTA’s 17 sections for their dedication to advancing inclusivity in the sport.

“It was beautiful to be thought of. Certainly Billie Jean King is an icon way beyond the sport,” Duvernay told The Associated Press before the awards ceremony. “Anytime I have an opportunity to be around her or to be associated with her, it’s an honor.”

Duvernay is a filmmaker who has directed films like “Selma” and “A Wrinkle in Time.” She was the first Black woman to direct a film nominated for best picture at the Academy Awards and to win Best Director at Sundance Film Festival.

Allaster is the first woman to be the U.S. Open’s tournament director, and will be leaving the position at the end of this tournament. She has previously served as the chairman and CEO of the Women’s Tennis Association, where she led a team that helped secure equal prize money at the French Open and Wimbledon.

The prior two recipients of the award are tennis legend Venus Williams and television producer Shonda Rhimes, who joined Duvernay in a panel discussion about their careers and equality at the ceremony.

“When you deny equity, you make your own world smaller,” Williams said. “The world is so big. There’s so many things to experience and to know and to understand. … It’s an incredible world, if you allow it to be.”

The King Of Action Is Back! Baaghi 4’s Advance Booking Surpasses Housefull 5’s Record | Glamsham.com

The action-packed Baaghi series is back and Baaghi 4 is already flexing its box office muscle. Directed by Sajid Nadiadwala, this high-intensity actioner starring Tiger Shroff is registering a strong opening in advance bookings before its release in theatres on September 5, 2025.

Based on preliminary box office monitoring, the movie has already sold 26,500 tickets on Day 1 (September 2) at India’s major national multiplex chains PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis. This figure ranks Baaghi 4 among Bollywood’s highest-performing films in early pre-release ticket sales for the year. Furthermore, BookMyShow reported 40,000 tickets sold for the movie on the same day, indicative of mass interest and expectation. These numbers comfortably outpace the advance booking figures of Housefull 5, a respectable benchmark for large-budget Hindi releases in 2025.

The pace merely intensified by Day 2, with early indications pointing towards a 30–40% increase in ticket sales at the same national chains. This increase is a clear testament to the growing buzz surrounding the film and its excellent connect with its action-crazy fanbase.

On revenue grounds, Baaghi 4 is off to a good start. According to Sacnilk, the movie earned around ₹1.32 crore through Day 1 advance booking (not counting blocked seats), while this figure went up to about ₹2.91 crore gross when block seats are added. There are other reports which put the gross at around ₹1.35 crore, further establishing its good pre-release pull.

Trade experts estimate that Baaghi 4 may collect a Day 1 net of ₹8–9 crore based on final occupancies and walk-in numbers. A weekend opening collection of ₹25 crore or more is easily possible if word-of-mouth and early reviews are good.

In short, with ticket sales exceeding 26,500 on Day 1, a 30–40% increase on Day 2, and advance bookings beating Housefull 5, Baaghi 4 is leading with the full amount. The film’s mix of high-octane stunts, glossy visuals, and Tiger Shroff’s action hero appeal seems to be striking a chord with audiences giving us a glimpse of what might turn out to be one of the actor’s greatest box office openings so far.

bitchy | King Charles was ‘dismayed’ by Prince William’s refusal to attend VJ Day events

Prince Harry is headed to London next week. I would actually bet that he’s flying over the weekend, but he will definitely be in London next Monday, September 8th, for the WellChild Awards. The big question – I guess – is whether Harry will meet his father. There’s no question of a meeting between brothers. Harry will not see Prince William, and William has rage-ranted for years now that the next time he’ll see or speak to his brother is at their father’s funeral. Speaking of, this all leads into The Royalist’s latest Substack piece, which is chock-a-block full of interesting information. Not about Harry, but about King Charles’s relationship with his heir, and William’s general unwillingness to do anything but go on vacation and rage-brief about his brother. Some highlights:

The roadblock: The real roadblock to a Charles/Harry reconciliation is what sources say is a very strained relationship between Charles and his son and heir, William. Put simply, the big picture is that William thinks Charles’ monarchy has not modernized as much as it should have. He thinks it still radiates pomposity and looks out of touch, thanks to Charles’ love of uniforms and ermine, and William disdains the prioritization of duty over an individual’s health and wellbeing. Charles thinks William is shirking the most basic element of the job—appearing, in person, all over the country, come rain or shine, and that his prioritization of family life over royal duty is inappropriate. But Charles is hugely afraid of making the relationship between him and William even worse than it already is.

William doesn’t think Charles should meet with Harry: William is being guided on the issue by his own grievance against Harry but also by domestic public opinion, which shows a large majority of the people do not believe Charles should grant Harry an audience, thereby effectively re-admitting him to the royal fold.

A friend of Peg: A friend of William told me this week that William believes his hand has been strengthened by the renewed disgrace of Prince Andrew, over whose fate Charles has vacillated. The friend said: “William always said, just cut Andrew off completely. It’s not appropriate to have an alleged sex offender breaking bread with the royal family. Charles was so desperate to be seen as embodying the spirit of Christian forgiveness that he let Andrew back in. Then the Lownie book happened. Now, is history going to repeat itself with a photo of Harry and the king having tea? It’s absurd to even imagine that after what Harry said, unless there is some form of direct apology from Harry. William was right about Andrew, and he is right about Harry. Charles is weak. William is anything but weak.” The friend added, “Ultimately, William is a loyal soldier. He respects his father’s rank, and he respects his father’s right to make his own decisions and he won’t make a fuss. But he thinks a Harry meeting is a terrible, terrible idea.”

Charles & William’s relationship: Another family friend of the royals described the relationship between William and the king to me this week as tense, difficult, formal and fraught, with William having a “deep-seated resentment” toward his father rooted in childhood trauma, a particularly pertinent issue today (Aug. 31), the anniversary of Diana’s death. The two men only rarely speak informally, with most of their communication mediated by their private secretaries, this source said. They do not tend to meet informally.

Charles didn’t see William & Kate in Balmoral: One former Buckingham Palace staffer who maintains good contacts with current staff told me that William and the king had spent no time at all together privately when William and Kate were in Balmoral last week. The king preferred to withdraw to the privacy of his own private home, Birkhall, eight miles from the castle on the enormous Scottish estate. The former staffer said: “Charles believes in tradition, and continuity above all. William thinks many aspects of his father’s approach are outdated, preferring a more modern interpretation of monarchy.”

William refused to go to VJ Day: I asked this source about two rumors I have heard this year. William apparently demurred at being sent to the Pope’s funeral because his soccer team, Aston Villa, was playing on the same day. The king was aghast when William’s position filtered back, and ultimately, William went. However, William was not persuaded to attend the VJ Day commemorations earlier this month, a decision that I have been told dismayed the king. The source said: “Both absolutely true. To William, continuing to run the monarchy as though it were still an Edwardian institution feels absurd. To Charles, his son’s more casual approach can feel like a lack of respect for duty and tradition.”

[From The Royalist]

“William was right about Andrew, and he is right about Harry. Charles is weak. William is anything but weak.” William is jealous of Harry, William is stupid and lazy, and William reportedly has a violent temper. All of that makes William very weak indeed. This is the man who got manipulated by a family of grifters and ended up married to one of them. This is the man who thinks honoring WWII veterans is an Edwardian throwback!! This is a man who wanted to shrug off a pope’s funeral so he could attend a football match in person! Like… I think Charles is a horrible father and a very weak man as well – but at least Charles has some understanding of what “the job” entails, and part of that job is “showing empathy and care to one’s family” AND “working.” William’s idea of a modern monarchy is “doing f–k all, refusing to attend significant national events, skipping the funerals of world leaders and going on endless vacations.”

Stephen King criticises the “pornographic” violence in superhero films

by jummy84 September 2, 2025
written by jummy84

Stephen King has criticised the depiction of violence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, describing it as “pornographic”.

The writer, who is most adapted living author in cinematic history, was speaking about the extent of the violence in the new film The Long Walk, which is based on his 1979 novel of the same name.

He told The Times that he insisted to screenwriter JT Mollner (Strange Darling) and director Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games) that the young characters in the film, who enter a walking contest in which all but the winner will be executed, must be shown being brutally killed.

“If you look at these superhero movies, you’ll see…some supervillain who’s destroying whole city blocks but you never see any blood,” he explained. “And man, that’s wrong. It’s almost, like, pornographic.”

“I said, if you’re not going to show it [in The Long Walk], don’t bother. And so they made a pretty brutal movie.”

Set in a dystopian United States, the film depicts 100 young men entering an annual walking contest in which they must maintain a speed of at least three miles per hour or they will be killed. The winner is the last remaining walker.

It stars Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson and Charlie Plummer and is released in cinemas on September 12.

It is one of four major King adaptations to be released on the big screen in 2025: The Life Of Chuck, with Tom Hiddleston and Chiwetel Ejiofor, is out now, Osgood Perkins’ horror The Monkey was a hit in the Spring, while Edgar Wright’s remake of The Running Man is coming on November 7.

This is not the first time that King has spoken about the MCU – in 2023, he criticised people that were piling in on the miserable box office performance of The Marvels, calling it “adolescent fanboy hate”.

“I don’t go to MCU movies, don’t care for them, but I find this barely masked gloating over the low box office for THE MARVELS very unpleasant,” he wrote. “Why gloat over failure?”

Last month, he spoke about his wishes for the end of the Trump presidency. “I think it would be impeachment – which, in my view, would be a good ending. I would love to see him retired, let’s put it that way. The bad ending would be that he gets a third term and takes things over completely. It’s a horror story either way. Trump is a horror story, isn’t he?”

Stephen King Demanded ‘The Long Walk’ Show Teens Getting Shot

by jummy84 September 2, 2025
written by jummy84

As The Long Walk makes the trek from the page to the screen, Stephen King recently revealed the one condition he had for adapting his 1979 novel.

The author explained that the characters in the book are “the same sort of kids that are pulled into the war machine” of Vietnam, noting that he required screenwriter JT Mollner and director Francis Lawrence to show teens getting shot in their film.

“If you look at these superhero movies, you’ll see … some supervillain who’s destroying whole city blocks but you never see any blood. And man, that’s wrong. It’s almost, like, pornographic,” King told The Times of London. “I said, if you’re not going to show it, don’t bother. And so they made a pretty brutal movie.”

In The Long Walk, premiering Sept. 12 in theaters, a group of 100 young men enter an annual walking contest in dystopian America, in which the losers are executed and only one person survives.

As Lionsgate screened the first 20 minutes of the movie at Comic-Con, Mollner said he “wanted to keep the DNA and themes that Stephen King baked into his original novel.”

“Even though he was writing about specific things at the time, I feel that relevance is generational and wanted to make sure we had that. The beauty, love and the story of friendship along with the brutality of hopelessness and terror,” added Mollner. “We wanted to go all the way. I knew that Stephen King wanted us to go all the way. I knew Lionsgate wanted us to go all the way. If this book got into the wrong hands, studio or filmmakers. It could’ve been neutered. So, I’m very grateful we were able to keep the teeth that the book has.”

Stephen King ‘afraid’ of dementia

by jummy84 September 1, 2025
written by jummy84

1 September 2025

Stephen King is “afraid” of dementia and frets about being diagnosed with a terrifying brain condition every time he forgets a word.

Stephen King has admitted he is terrified of dementia

The 77-year-old blockbuster author made the confession in an interview with The Times newspaper revealing he is worried about suffering the same fate as fellow novelist Sir Terry Pratchett, who battled Alzheimer’s disease prior to his death in 2015.

King said: “That’s what I’m afraid of. I’m afraid of that happening to me and every time that I can’t remember a word or something, I think: ‘This is the start’.”

The Shining author revealed he still writes around 1,200 words a day when he’s at home and has at least one more book he wants to publish before he starts thinking about ending his writing career.

He told the publication: “I have at least one more book that I would like to write, and beyond that, man, I’m not going to say … I’d like to go out where people say: ‘I’d like another one’.”

When asked if he will continue writing even if he’s no longer publishing his work, King replied: “I think that might happen. But I’m too old to do the JD Salinger thing and write four or five books that are in the desk drawer.”

King’s writing continues to inspire Hollywood movies with his 2000 novella The Life of Chuck being made into a new film starring Tom Hiddleston and a big screen version of his 1979 novel The Long Walk also about to hit cinemas.

A new version of his 1982 book The Running Man starring Glen Powell is also heading to the big screen later this year.

King revealed The Running Man was initially turned down by a publisher but it eventually hit stores after he scored hits with Carrie and Salem’s Lot, but it was released under his pseudonym Richard Bachman.

The story focuses on a game show in which contestants are pursued by murderous hunters and they win a cash prize if they are able to stay alive.

King said of the book: “I must say I had a fun time thinking up [the] game shows …

“It was kind of amusing,” King says. “In a sick way. I mean, nobody said that I was a well puppy.”

The King Of Bollywood’s Bold New Look: Shah Rukh Khan’s Sleek Ponytail At Ganpati Festivities | Glamsham.com

While Shah Rukh Khan may not have a new film hitting theatres soon, the superstar is basking in personal and professional joy. This week, SRK captured the spotlight not for his on-screen presence but for a heartfelt moment as a father and a striking appearance at a Ganpati celebration that had fans swooning.

SRK’s Dashing Look Steals the Spotlight

At a recent Ganpati celebration, Shah Rukh Khan made a stylish appearance in a navy-blue kurta paired with white bottoms. The kurta, left slightly unbuttoned, gave off a relaxed yet regal vibe — a perfect blend of tradition and modernity. However, it was his hairstyle that truly stole the show.

SRK sported a small, neatly tied ponytail a look that fans quickly dubbed “timeless” and “edgy.” Paired with a classic wristwatch and his signature charm, the actor exuded effortless elegance. Social media erupted with praise, with users commenting on how SRK continues to reinvent his style, maintaining a youthful aura even after three decades in the industry.

A Proud Father Moment: Aryan Khan’s Creative Debut

Beyond fashion, the eventful week held emotional significance for Shah Rukh Khan as he introduced his son Aryan Khan to the media for the first time as a creator and director. Aryan is making his debut with the series The Ba**ds of Bollywood, produced under the family’s banner, Red Chillies Entertainment.

At a press event, a visibly emotional SRK addressed the gathering:
“Main bohot shukraguzaar hoon Mumbai ki is pavitra dharti ka… Aaj bohot khaas din hai, kyunki isi pavitra dharti par mera beta bhi apna pehla kadam rakh raha hai. Bohot accha ladka hai.” He urged the audience to support Aryan just as they supported him:
“Jo pyaar aap logon ne mujhe diya hai, uska 150% aap use dena.”

Inside The Ba**ds Bollywood

Choosing direction over acting, Aryan Khan’s series promises a gritty, satirical take on the inner workings of the Hindi film industry. The ensemble cast includes Bobby Deol, Lakshya, Sahher Bambba, Mona Singh, Manoj Pahwa, and Raghav Juyal. The show is already building anticipation for its bold narrative and unique perspective.

From style icon to proud father, SRK once again reminded fans why he remains the heart of Bollywood — both on and off the screen.

‘King Hamlet’ Review: Oscar Isaac Documentary Charms

There are a lot of lessons that Elvira Lind’s “King Hamlet” seems to want viewers to learn: The timeless language of Shakespeare remains a source of wisdom for those going through hard times. Life is a cycle, and the sting of watching loved ones pass away can be soothed by the joy of welcoming new babies into the world. And the opinions of critics are far less valuable than the people who pour their own blood, sweat, and tears into making art together. But even if it sets its sights on loftier ideas, there’s one point that it drives home far more than any other: even when he’s Going Through It, Oscar Isaac is incredibly handsome and charming.

All mortals have flaws, so I find it highly unlikely that Isaac is the first truly perfect human ever to walk the Earth. But after watching this breezy documentary directed by his wife, which documents the actor as he plays Hamlet in a New York production during a year when he lost his mother and became a father, I don’t think the possibility can be ruled out. That’s to be expected from a film whose production was such a family affair, and “King Hamlet” is better understood as a feel-good collection of memories that Lind and Isaac deemed worthy of preservation than a true behind-the-scenes look at the Broadway creative process. But what the documentary might lack in rigor, it makes up for with charm and a well-intentioned message about the healing power of art.

2017 was a big year for Oscar Isaac. The Juilliard graduate and lifelong Shakespeare geek was finally getting the chance to play his dream role in a Public Theater production directed by Tony winner Sam Gold, and he was relishing every step of the creative process. But in between debates about how changing the spelling of a single word can change the meaning of an entire line, he had a lot of personal problems to juggle. His mother was dying after a long hospital stretch, and Lind was pregnant with their first child. He had spent months at his mother’s side reading passages from “Hamlet,” as a means of both creative preparation and mutual grief processing, and was now returning to New York to dive head-first into rehearsals before a grueling summer of two-shows-a-day with a new baby at home. All while to managing his mother’s affairs, consoling his grieving extended family, and occasionally flying to London for “Star Wars” reshoots.

Even while overwhelmed with the burdens of life, Isaac’s enthusiasm for Shakespeare is infectious, and there’s joy to be found in watching him process his own pain through the act of creation. He has his share of painful moments when the pressure briefly becomes too much, but watching him bond with his newborn son while running lines and having creative discussions with Gold over speakerphone is a reminder of one of life’s most bittersweet lessons: it goes on. We never forget the people we love, but darkness is eventually supposed to fade enough for us to make new happy memories. Watching Isaac and Lind navigate it all leaves you with a cosmic sense of satisfaction that things are working the way they’re supposed to.

Lind is the only person who could have possibly directed “King Hamlet,” as the film’s greatest strength is its sense of intimacy. Nobody else’s camera would have ever been welcomed into their home so frequently during the first month’s of their son’s life, and Isaac’s genuine relaxation around her gives the film a fly-on-the-wall quality that feels more like home movies (with better cinematography!) than typical documentary footage. Her pacing is perfectly elegant, allowing Isaac’s grief and joy to unfold in equal measure from the beginning of the rehearsal process through the end of the production, allocating just enough time to the darker moments without dragging the mood down for too long.

If “King Hamlet” has any legacy as a film, it will likely be as a comfort watch for Isaac’s superfans and Shakespeare devotees. It won’t be joining the canon of great nonfiction cinema, but I have no doubt that many viewers will find that watching a shirtless Oscar Isaac play with an adorable baby while quoting Shakespeare is a great use of 89 minutes.

Grade: B

“King Hamlet” premiered at the 2025 Telluride Film Festival. It is currently seeking U.S. distribution.
