Texas man indicted on murder charge in shooting of ‘King of the Hill’ voice actor Jonathan Joss

HOUSTON — A grand jury in Texas has indicted the man accused of killing “King of the Hill” voice actor Jonathan Joss on a murder charge.

Texas man indicted on murder charge in shooting of ‘King of the Hill’ voice actor Jonathan Joss

But it is unclear whether Joss’ killing will be considered a hate crime. Police in San Antonio did not immediately return an email seeking comment Wednesday on whether its investigation had determined that Joss’ sexual orientation played a role in his shooting, and the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office declined to comment on the matter.

Police allege Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, 57, confronted Joss and his husband on June 1 as they were checking their mail at their San Antonio home, which had been burned down in January.

Joss’ husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, has claimed the person who killed the actor yelled “violent homophobic slurs” before opening fire.

Ceja Alvarez’s attorneys did not immediately return emails seeking comment Wednesday.

In June, Alfonso Otero, one of Ceja Alvarez’s attorneys, said his client was innocent and denied making any homophobic statements.

The grand jury returned the indictment Monday, and Ceja Alvarez remains free on a $200,000 bond.

A friend of the 59-year-old Joss has said that Joss and Ceja Alvarez were neighbors and the two had argued for years.

Initially, San Antonio police had said there was no evidence indicating the shooting was related to Joss’ sexual orientation. But San Antonio Police Chief William McManus later walked back that statement, saying it had been “premature” and that whether Joss’ sexual orientation played a role in the shooting was “part of the investigation.”

The district attorney’s office said in a statement Wednesday that Ceja Alvarez “is charged with murder, which is the most serious charge applicable to this crime under Texas law. As the case is still pending, no additional details or information can be released at this time.”

Under Texas law, a hate crime — if there’s a conviction — would be handled as an enhancement during sentencing and not as a separate charge.

Joss was the voice of John Redcorn, a Native American character on the popular “King of the Hill” animated series, which ran for 13 seasons from 1997 to 2008. A reboot of the show, which Joss had already worked on, premiered in August.

Joss also had a recurring role on the television show “Parks and Recreation,” playing Chief Ken Hotate. He appeared in two episodes of the series “Tulsa King” in 2022.

‘The Running Man’ Director Edgar Wright on Stephen King and Influences

by jummy84 November 16, 2025
written by jummy84

When Arnold Schwarzenegger played game show contestant Ben Richards in the 1987 version of Stephen King’s dystopian novel “The Running Man,” his adventures took place in a relatively confined subterranean world. When “Baby Driver” and “Last Night in Soho” director Edgar Wright took on the challenge of reimagining King’s novel for 2025, he decided to go back to the more ambitious scale of the original story — even though it meant taking on the biggest production of his career.

“In the original Stephen King [writing under the pseudonym Richard Bachman] book, the playing field of the game is the world,” Wright told IndieWire’s Filmmaker Toolkit podcast. “Ben Richards leaves the network studio, and he’s got to exist in the world for 30 days. It’s hide and seek on a national, even global scale — there’s nothing in the rules to say you couldn’t get out of the country. The Arnold Schwarzenegger version kept it all contained.”

VATICAN CITY, VATICAN - MAY 8: The newly elected Pontiff, Pope Leo XIV is seen for the first time from the Vatican balcony on May 8, 2025 in Vatican City, Vatican. White smoke was seen over the Vatican early this evening as the Conclave of Cardinals took just two days to elect Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, who will be known as Pope Leo (Leone) XIV, as the 267th Supreme Pontiff after the death of Pope Francis on Easter Monday. (Photo by Christopher Furlong/Getty Images)

With that in mind, Wright pitched his “Running Man,” in which Glen Powell plays the game show contestant running for his life, less as a remake than a new adaptation of the novel. “We wanted to do the book, and we wanted to have the same scale as the book,” Wright said, though he acknowledged that after completing the film, he understood why the makers of the 1987 movie went a different way. “Having now done the shoot and been totally exhausted by it, I understand it was a practical decision rather than an artistic one.”

“The Running Man,” which encompassed 165 different locations and sets across England, Scotland, and Bulgaria, may have exhausted Wright, but for the audience it’s more energizing than tiring thanks to the movie’s high style and carefully calibrated pacing. It’s essentially a non-stop chase in the tradition of Sam Peckinpah’s “The Getaway” (adapted by screenwriter Walter Hill from the Jim Thompson novel), and it not only shares that film’s elegant sense of structure and visual dynamism but its approach to the hero.

“ Usually when I make a movie, we watch a good luck film before we start production,” Wright said. “The week before we started shooting, we got together and watched ‘The Getaway,’ because Glen had actually never seen it. It’s a great example of a great movie star performance. [Steve] McQueen had immense power and charisma, not saying very much at all, and you could point to a lot of his performances, but that’s a really great one in terms of how to hold the screen.”

Powell’s version of Richards has a tightly coiled rage reminiscent of McQueen in “The Getaway,” but what really makes the performance work is his vulnerability — the fight scenes are sometimes as clumsy as they are kinetic, giving the viewer the sense that Ben Richards could easily be defeated at any given point. “He’s a tough character, but he’s not John Wick,” Wright said. “He’s not Jason Bourne. He doesn’t have amazing action skills. He’s fallible, and he makes mistakes.”

In addition to McQueen’s Doc McCoy in “The Getaway,” Wright had two other reference points for the characters. “We talked about two performances a lot,” Wright said. “One was Harrison Ford in ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark,’ because he’s an adventurer, but he’s not perfect. The key moment is when he says, ‘I don’t know, I’m making this up as I go along.’ Or I think of Ford getting punched in the face and falling like a sack of potatoes. He’s not superhuman.”

The other influence was Bruce Willis’ performance as John McClane in “Die Hard.” “In the first one at least, even though he’s a cop, the exciting thing is that for large portions of the film, he’s out of his depth, and you think there’s no way that he can take on all of these guys and win. What we talked about [in ‘The Running Man’] was the idea that Ben Richards is on his heels the entire time, and there’s something really fun and hopefully exciting about the fact that he’s just trying to tough his way through it.”

Although the scale of “The Running Man” was more elaborate even than big-budget Wright films like “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” the director said he had a safety net in the form of collaborators with whom he had worked many times before. What really made him nervous wasn’t making the movie — it was getting script approval from the book’s author, one of Wright’s childhood heroes.

“[Stephen King]  is a producer on the film and had script approval and some cast approval as well,” Wright said. “I had been in contact with him on and off for years, and he’d always been really kind, but when I was working on [the script for ‘The Running Man’], I didn’t talk to him about it until we were very close to it happening, because I didn’t want to be the boy who cried wolf. The idea of getting in touch with him about the script and the film not happening would be heartbreaking to me.”

Once Wright was pretty sure the movie was on its way to a green light, he sent King the script he co-wrote with Michael Bacall and waited for the author’s response. “Stephen King is probably the most famous English teacher in the world, and it was literally having to hand in your homework to Stephen King over a very long weekend. At one point, he started reviewing it page by page, and my heart couldn’t take it. I was like, ‘Please, just read the whole thing!’”

Luckily, King liked the script, but after some early conversations about casting, he stayed away until the movie was finished. When Wright showed King the film and finally met him in person on a visit to Bangor, Maine, where the author lives, he got the perfect response.

“He said this thing that really stuck with me, and it’s what I hope the audience will take away from it as well,” Wright said. “He said, ‘It’s faithful enough to the original book to keep the fans happy, but different enough to keep me excited.’ And I was thinking, ah, you can’t say it better than that. I couldn’t ask for anything more, really.”

“The Running Man” is currently in theaters. To hear the entire conversation with Edgar Wright about and make sure you don’t miss a single episode of Filmmaker Toolkit, subscribe to the podcast on Apple, Spotify, or your favorite podcast platform.

Did Shah Rukh Khan copy Brad Pitt’s F1 look for King? Director Siddharth Anand reacts

Ever since the first look of Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film King was unveiled on his 60th birthday, social media has been buzzing about the striking similarities between his character and Brad Pitt’s look from the F1 movie. Now, director Siddharth Anand has finally addressed the comparisons and fan theories surrounding the film.

The first look of his King, was released on Shah Rukh Khan’s 60th birthday.

Siddharth Anand reacts

Soon after the first look of King dropped, social media was flooded with posts highlighting Shah Rukh’s blue shirt and tan jacket look from the film. Several social media users drew parallels between his appearance and Brad Pitt’s look in F1, sharing side-by-side clips of the two. While some fans called it a case of “inspiration,” others went as far as labeling it a “copy,” sparking a debate online.

Now, Siddharth has responded to a tweet questioning why Bollywood is constantly subjected to hate.

The post read, “Funny logic by haters these days. If Bollywood movie has:-Fighter Jet – Copy of Top Gun, Ship – Copy of Titanic, Same dress code – Copy of F1, Orange Dress – Anti-Hindu, Their IQ level is like – buffering since 1947.”

The post features a collage showing Shah Rukh in a similar outfit from his 2017 film Jab Harry Met Sejal, followed by Brad Pitt sporting similar look in his 2025 film F1, and finally the image from King that sparked the entire discussion on social media.

Siddharth Anand reacted to the post in the comment section, dropping several laughing face emojis along with the “okay” hand emoji, seemingly agreeing with the sentiment behind it.

All about The King

On his 60th birthday, the first look of his next film, King, was released. In the title reveal teaser of King, Shah Rukh is seen performing action sequences and stunts like never before. He is seen in salt and pepper look in the teaser. The film is produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures.

Shah Rukh described the role as “a very dark and character”. The actor spoke about the film at the fan meet-and-greet event held on Sunday. Shah Rukh shares, “King ka jo character hai, bohot hi interesting hai. Siddharth aur Sujoy (Ghosh) ne bohot prem se likha hai. Aur usme bohot saari buraaiyaan hain. Khooni hai, logo ko maar deta hai aur poochta bhi nahi (The character in King is very interesting. Siddharth and Sunjay wrote it with a lot of love. He comes with a lot of vices. He is a murderer. He kills people and doesn’t even ask).”

Directed by Siddharth Anand, the film will release in 2026. The film also stars Deepika Padukone, Suhana Khan, Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Abhay Verma, among others.

King of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan turned 60 on November 2, and his birthday celebration became a moment of love and emotion for millions of fans. Known for his incredible journey from a middle-class boy in Delhi to one of the world’s biggest superstars, SRK continues to inspire people with his humility and warmth even after more than three decades in the film industry.

Every year, thousands of fans gather outside his Mumbai home, Mannat, to catch a glimpse of their favorite actor on his birthday. This year too, crowds lined up early, holding banners and chanting his name. Although fans were initially disappointed, SRK made sure they did not go home empty-handed. After attending a fan-meet event in Mumbai, the actor stepped out later in the evening to greet the sea of fans waiting outside. Dressed casually in jeans, a black t-shirt, and a white jacket, the Jawan star waved, smiled, and expressed his gratitude to everyone who had come to celebrate his special day.

He also shared a heartfelt post on Instagram, writing, “Thank you for making my birthday special as always. Full of gratitude and those of you I couldn’t meet, I will see you soon. In the theatres and on the next birthday. Love u.”

Earlier, SRK had apologised to fans on social media for not greeting them at Mannat, saying it was for everyone’s safety. He added, “Believe me, I will miss seeing you more than you will.” Even at 60, Shah Rukh Khan’s connection with his fans remains as magical and heartwarming as ever.
