Björk Joins “No Music for Genocide” Israel Boycott

by jummy84 September 28, 2025
written by jummy84

Björk is the latest artist to join the “No Music for Genocide” mass Israel boycott, making her catalog of music unavailable on Israeli streaming services.

The Icelandic singer now stands alongside the likes of Massive Attack, Hayley Williams and Paramore, Kneecap, Japanese Breakfast, Fontaines D.C. and hundreds more artists who are currently geo-blocking their music in Israel.

According to the No Music for Genocide website, the initiative’s mission is “in response to Israel’s genocide in Gaza; ethnic cleansing of the Occupied West Bank; apartheid within Israel / ’48; political repression of Pro-Palestine efforts wherever we live; and the music industry’s own ties to weapons and crimes against humanity.”

While Björk has yet to issue a statement about her participation in the Israel boycott, she has shown her support for Palestine in the past, including a November 2023 Instagram post of maps showing territorial changes between Palestine and Israel over the years with the caption, “is this what you call sharing ?”

The singer has let her feelings about the streaming service Spotify be known, calling it “probably the worst thing that has happened to musicians.”

Earlier this year, Björk debuted her concert film Cornucopia in theaters around the world, which will be followed by a physical release next month.

Thamma Trailer Review: Ayushmann Khurrana Turns Vampire, Rashmika Mandanna Joins Maddock’s Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU) | Glamsham.com

The trailer of Maddock’s Thamma is out! Starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Paresh Rawal and Sathyaraj, the film blends horror, comedy, romance and mythology. The MHCU just got bigger and bloodier.

Aditya Sarpotdar, fresh off the success of Munjya, returns with Thamma—and the trailer makes it clear this is Maddock’s most ambitious step yet in its growing Horror Comedy Universe. Headlined by Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Paresh Rawal, and Sathyaraj, the film looks like a full-blown entertainer that marries myth, horror, romance, and laughter in one bloody cocktail.

Ayushmann, with his “boy next door with fangs” vibe, instantly hooks. Rashmika plays more than just a glam quotient—her Tadaka feels integral to the mythology. Nawazuddin, stepping into uncharted territory as the rogue Betaal Yakshasan, looks menacing yet mischievous, while Paresh Rawal lands the punches and Sathyaraj lends gravitas. Add to this Varun Dhawan’s surprise Bhediya cameo, and suddenly Thamma doesn’t just tease a standalone film but a crossover event in the making.

Visually, the trailer is rich—dark palettes lit with striking reds, comic beats punctuating eerie silences, and an undercurrent of folklore giving the film heft. The MHCU’s signature—scares blended with wit—is intact, but this time layered with romance and mythology, hinting at higher emotional stakes.

Slated for a Diwali 2025 release (October 21), Thamma promises to be a festive blockbuster with teeth. For fans of Stree, Bhediya and Munjya, this one looks like the bloodiest, boldest ride yet.

Luke Wilson Joins Will Ferrell Netflix Golf Comedy

Luke Wilson Joins Will Ferrell Netflix Golf Comedy

by jummy84 September 26, 2025
written by jummy84

The Wilsons are halfway to a regular foursome.

Luke Wilson is joining Will Ferrell’s untitled Netflix golf comedy series, the streamer revealed on Friday. Wilson will play a pro golfer who has beaten Ferrell’s character for the tour championship twice.

Why does (most of) that sentence sound so familiar? Oh, right: Owen Wilson currently stars in a streaming comedy series, Apple TV+ show Stick, as a former pro golfer. Owen Wilson is Luke Wilson’s (three-years-older) big brother.

The Netflix series stars Ferrell as a fictional golf legend. Molly Shannon, Jimmy Tatro and Fortune Feimster have been previously announced as co-stars — not much more is known than that.

Perhaps surprisingly, the 10-episode Netflix golf comedy marks Ferrell’s first TV comedy series — you know, other than one very famous and long-running TV sketch-comedy series. The coming series marks the latest collaboration between former Saturday Night Live cast mates Shannon and Ferrell.

Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor executive produce the Netflix series for Ferrell’s Gloria Sanchez Productions. Rian Johnson (the Knives Out movies), Ram Bergman and Nena Rodrigue are executive producers for T-Street. Chris Henchy, Harper Steele, David Gordon Green and Andrew Guest also executive produce.

Ramy Youssef and Josh Rabinowitz, who were credited as co-creators and executive producers when Netflix picked up the series in May 2024, have since departed over creative differences. Andy Campagna of Youssef’s Cairo Cowboy production company also departed.

Owen Wilson’s Stick has been renewed for a second season; the news was likely received to just mild golf claps among the online golfing community. Though Stick has received a generally warm welcome from critics, including The Hollywood Reporter’s Angie Han, it is less popular among those who actually play the game. Stick season one featured some basic errors that jumped off the screen to golfers.

The Apple TV+ show also features a character, Zero (Lilli Kay), who seems to grate on viewers — that almost certainly rings truer with older viewers.

“Zero, with their fluid pronouns and haughtily declared stances against meat and capitalism, never totally stops feeling like a Gen Z caricature,” Han wrote in her review.

Luke Wilson has a lot more game than Owen, who learned how to play just for Stick.

Luke Wilson is repped by WME.

Björk joins No Music For Genocide campaign and removes catalogue from streaming in Israel

by jummy84 September 26, 2025
written by jummy84

Björk has joined the ‘No Music For Genocide’ campaign, making her back catalogue unavailable on streaming services in Israel.

The new campaign is a cultural boycott initiative encouraging artists and rights-holders to pull their music from streaming platforms in Israel in response to the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

To join the coalition, the artists involved have edited their own release territories or sent geo-block requests to their distributor or label. They are encouraging major label groups Sony, UMG, and Warner to follow suit, particularly as they blocked their entire catalogues from and closed operations in Russia a month into their invasion of Ukraine.

Massive Attack, Fontaines D.C., Amyl & The Sniffers, and Kneecap were among the leading names to join the initiative last week, as well as Paramore, Rina Sawayama, MIKE, Primal Scream, Faye Webster, Japanese Breakfast, Yaeji, King Krule, MJ Lenderman, Mannequin Pussy, Wednesday, Soccer Mommy and MØ.

Now, it appears that the Icelandic singer-songwriter has become the latest big name to join the campaign. The Times Of Israel reported on Sunday (September 21) that her music was unavailable to people living in Israel on Spotify and Apple Music.

Björk has been outspoken in her advocacy for the Palestinian people in the past, posting on Instagram in November 2023 a series of maps of the Israel-Palestine region since 1946, writing, “Is this what you call sharing?”

A statement from ‘No Music For Genocide’ stated: “Culture can’t stop bombs on its own, but it can help reject political repression, shift public opinion toward justice, and refuse the art-washing and normalization of any company or nation that commits crimes against humanity.

“This initiative is one part of a worldwide movement to erode the support Israel needs to continue its genocide. We’re inspired by the escalating efforts in pursuit of that goal, from the recent Film Workers For Palestine pledge to Spain’s ban of Israel-bound ships and planes to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition to Demilitarize Brooklyn Navy Yard to dockworkers in Morocco who’ve refused to load weapons onto vessels ordered by Tel Aviv.

“Many of our peers have felt, like ourselves, unsure how to use music in this moment. Our first goal with No Music For Genocide is to inspire others to reclaim their agency and direct their influence toward a tangible act. We are so grateful for all of the artists, managers and labels who have already committed to this first step, and we’re excited to expand this together. The more of us there are, the stronger we will be. This is just the beginning.”

Björk has been vocal about other geopolitical issues during her career, notably in support of Tibetan independence. At a concert in Shanghai, China in 2008, she said from the stage, “Tibet, Tibet!”, and asked the audience to raise their flags during her track ‘Declare Independence’.

Her comments caused outrage among Chinese officials, to which she replied at the time: “It shows more than anything that China has become the next superpower in the world. And the issue is: how are they going to deal with Western moral issues like freedom of speech?”

Deradoorian Joins Spotify Exodus, Pulling Music From Platform

Deradoorian Joins Spotify Exodus, Pulling Music From Platform

by jummy84 September 25, 2025
written by jummy84

Deradoorian is the latest artist to pull music from Spotify. The singer-songwriter and former Dirty Projectors member cited chief executive Daniel Ek’s weapons investments—the main motive for the recent exodus—and alluded to recent online content accusing the platform of expanding its music usage rights. Spotify clarified in a statement that Spotify for Artists terms have not changed, and said those terms do not govern artists’ music rights.

Many of Deradoorian’s albums have already been taken down from Spotify but, she noted, remain available to stream and buy elsewhere. Her statement begins, “Since Spotify came along, I have always felt skeptical and opposed to their platform. Because it became the norm, I felt like I had to just put up with it and take what I could get. Perhaps that was true more so in the nascent stages of my solo career, but it doesn’t feel that way now.” She added that Ek’s investment in the artificial-intelligence weapons contractor Helsing prompted her to dig into other issues around the platform, such as the way Spotify uses artists’ music. The “slow erosion,” she wrote, of “our perceived ownership over our music—and the way its profits were used—was now too egregious to ignore.” Deradoorian admitted she did not conduct intensive research but said, “We all know that Spotify practices bad business. So, I just made the choice to stop it.”

In an email, a Spotify spokesperson said: “You might be seeing some misinformation online about a ‘change’ to the Spotify for Artists’ Terms of Use. These claims are false.” The spokesperson clarified that confusion about music usage rights revolves around a phrase that appears prominently in its terms of use: “user content.” That refers not to artists’ music but to listener content: “things like listener-created playlist covers, podcast comments, and playlist titles,” according to the statement. Terms of use for listeners—not artists—were recently updated, the spokesperson added.

Last week, Massive Attack became the biggest artist yet to announce its departure from Spotify, primarily citing Ek’s investment in Helsing. They also shared a separate statement about joining No Music for Genocide, which calls for artists to geoblock their music in Israel. (Spotify for Artists has clarified that Helsing is not involved in Gaza.) The band joined an exodus that includes Hotline TNT, Young Widows, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, WU LYF, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Xiu Xiu, and Deerhoof.

For the avoidance of doubt, Deradoorian concludes her statement, “I do not support AI technology that’s built to spy on us, create weapons to kill us, and utilize psychological tactics to dumb us down to the point of not questioning our reality and devolving our neural connections. It’s important to employ your mental faculties and ability to question in these times and I am trying harder to do that more consistently.”
