Actor James McAvoy was reportedly punched at a Toronto bar on Monday evening.

First reported by People magazine, the Scottish actor and director was apparently hit, unprovoked, by a patron at Charlotte’s Room, located on King Street West in the downtown area, mere blocks away from where the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) takes place.

The Split star had attended the premiere of his directorial debut, California Schemin’, at TIFF with his wife Lisa Liberati on Saturday.

Final Trailer for ‘Swiped’ Film Starring Lily James as Whitney Wolfe

“Fight for what you’ve built!” Never let them take you down! Hulu has debuted a final official trailer for a movie titled Swiped, another story of tech success in America. But instead of being a cautionary tale, this is framed as a story of great achievement in saying F you to The Man. From filmmaker Rachel Lee Goldenberg, it’s premiering at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival this week and will be streaming on Hulu to watch later in September. Swiped is inspired by the story of Whitney Wolfe (now Whitney Wolfe Herd), founder and former CEO of the dating app / platform known as Bumble. It was created when she was ousted from Tinder and she decided to create an alternative version where women are the only ones who can starting talking with a match. Lily James stars as Whitney, along with Clea DuVall, Dermot Mulroney, Pierson Fode, Joely Fisher, Myha’la, and Dan Stevens playing Badoo founder & CEO Andrey Andreev (who was a key investor in Bumble which allowed them to start). I’m still not sure why all of this is being spun into a more positive story, when it’s still yet another corporate tech biz / cautionary tale just like the others before.

Here’s the second & final trailer (+ poster) for Rachel Lee Goldenberg’s film Swiped, via Hulu’s YouTube:

You can rewatch the first trailer for Rachel Lee Goldenberg’s Swiped film right here for even more footage.

“Disrupt an industry… create an empire.” 💕 Inspired by the provocative real-life story of the visionary founder of online dating platform Bumble, Swiped introduces recent college grad Whitney Wolfe, played by Lily James, as she uses extraordinary grit & ingenuity to break into the male-dominated tech industry and launch an innovative, globally lauded dating app (two, actually), paving the way to becoming the youngest female self-made billionaire. Swiped is directed by American producer / filmmaker Rachel Lee Goldenberg, director of the films Valley Girl and Unpregnant previously, plus numerous music videos, short films, and lots of TV work including episodes of “Tiny Beautiful Things” & “Minx” most recently. The screenplay is written by Bill Parker & Rachel Lee Goldenberg, and Kim Caramele. Produced by Lily James, Jennifer Gibgot, Andrew Panay. This is premiering at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival in September this fall. Disney then debuts Swiped streaming on Hulu / Disney+ starting on September 19th, 2025 coming soon.

James McAvoy Allegedly Attacked in Toronto Bar While at TIFF

by jummy84 September 10, 2025
written by jummy84

James McAvoy was reportedly attacked in a Toronto bar on Monday while attending the Toronto International Film Festival to screen his directorial debut, “California Schemin’.”

According to a report by People, McAvoy was at Charlotte’s Room in Toronto on Monday when a man hit him just before midnight. The “Split” star allegedly tried to calm the aggressor down before others came to remove him from the bar.

An individual close to McAvoy told People, “James was having a casual get-together with the producers of his movie and, as he later learned when speaking with the staff, there was a man who drank too much who was getting escorted out. James’ back was to him and the man just punched him.”

The unnamed source added that McAvoy was fine after the alleged punch and that he stayed at the bar to laugh off the incident.

“California Schemin’” is inspired by the real-life story of Gavin Bain and Billy Boyd, two aspiring rappers from Dundee, Scotland. When they are turned away by the London music industry in the early aughts because of their accents, they rebrand themselves as Silibil N’ Brains, a bad-boy rap duo from the U.S. West Coast.

Before the film’s TIFF premiere, McAvoy shared his admiration for Bain and Boyd with Variety, comparing them to “folk heroes” like “Robin Hood.”

“Nobody cares that they got caught,” McAvoy said. “Nobody cares that they never made it. We just love that they fucking went down there and played the system. When the system’s rigged against you, try to undermine it or circumvent it. Game the game!”

Superman Fans Are ‘Rubbing Eyes In Disbelief’ Over James Gunn’s Latest Announcement – What’s Coming Next? | Glamsham.com

Director James Gunn has formally revealed the title of his much-awaited Superman movie, shifting away from the earlier announced Superman: Legacy. The movie will be released as Superman: Man of Tomorrow and has been scheduled to release in theatres on July 9, 2027.

Title Reveal with Comic Book Tribute

Gunn broke the news on Instagram, with gorgeous artwork by iconic DC Comics illustrator Jim Lee. His post read, simply, “Man of Tomorrow. In theatres July 9, 2027.” The film will feature David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as the legendary villain Lex Luthor.

The news comes after DC recently announced Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which is set to be released in 2026. Interestingly, DC had originally intended for that movie to be titled Woman of Tomorrow, but had subsequently dropped the title by itself.

The Meaning Behind ‘Man of Tomorrow’

The term “Man of Tomorrow” has been associated with Superman’s mythology for close to a century. It is one of the character’s earliest nicknames, often employed in radio serials, vintage comics, and most notably in Alan Moore’s legendary tale, Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? A 2020 animated movie also bore the title.

The line encapsulates Superman’s perpetual position as a beacon of hope and protector of humanity’s future—a perfect choice for Gunn’s redefinition of the character.

Setting the Stage for the DCU

Superman: Man of Tomorrow is James Gunn and Peter Safran’s first full-length film since being entrusted with the just-rebooted DC Universe. DC obviously is setting up a new Kryptonian saga with Supergirl coming out in 2026 and Superman in 2027.

Gunn has confirmed he has already finished writing the treatment for the film, describing it as “the next chapter in the Superman saga.

Superman cameo in Peacemaker Season 2? Pic fuels fan theories as James Gunn drops massive hint

John Cena returns as Peacemaker in Season 2, which picks up after the events of the Superman movie, where an interdimensional rift opens in Metropolis.

Peacemaker 2 is well underway and John Cena returns as the titular character. The new season picks up after the events of the Superman movie, where Lex Luthor opened an interdimensional rift in Metropolis. Now, a photo posted by the Superman actor has led fans to believe that he could even have a cameo in the HBO Max show.

Peacemaker had a small cameo in David Corenswet’s Superman movie.(Instagram/davidcorenswet)

Fans react to viral photo from Peacemaker 2 set

A photo of David Corenswet in his Superman costume, along with John Cena, shared by the Superman actor has set tongues wagging. Corenswet is seen in his Superman costume sporting a grin, while Cena stands smiling – with what appears to be fake flood splattered on his face. The picture has led many to jump to the conclusion that there might be a Man of Steel cameo.

One fan on X wrote “upcoming cameo, got it”. Another exclaimed that it gave ‘epic crossover vibes!’. “Ya we all need to admit Superman is in season 2,” said yet another fan.

Cena’s costume is from Episode 3 and while Superman didn’t appear in that installment, production for Season 2 and Superman coincided, meaning there is a chance for the superhero to pop up later in the new season as well. Fans might remember, Peacemaker appeared in the recent Superman movie as well, where he was seen on a snippet for The Sphere News.

James Gunn drops massive hint

James Gunn, who helmed the recent successful Superman movie, has already said that Peacemaker 2 is a prequel to the upcoming film Man of Tomorrow – which will release in 2027 and continue the saga of the Kryptonian hero.

He went as far as to say that Peacemaker 2 ‘directly’ sets up Man of Tomorrow. Given the overlap with Superman’s tale, it wouldn’t be a far cry for the Man of Steel to appear on the DC series, even if it is for a small cameo.

Season of Peacemaker sees Chris Smith, John Cena’s character, step in and out of the alternate dimension, raising red flags with A.R.G.U.S. – headed by Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. Given that the new season already has members of the Justice Gang, that is, Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern and Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl, Superman appearing would not be a far stretch either.

James Gunn, Stars on That Rick Reveal, What It Means for Harcourt (Exclusive)

by jummy84 September 5, 2025
written by jummy84

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Peacemaker Season 2, Episode 3, “Another Rick Up My Sleeve.”]

Peacemaker delivers a massive twist in Season 2’s third installment, “Another Rick Up My Sleeve,” as Joel Kinnaman reprises his role as Rick Flag Jr. in two forms, one the version fans met in The Suicide Squad and the other the “jarhead” hinted at in Peacemaker‘s alternate dimension.

While the episode opens with a flashback scene revealing that Rick Jr. and Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) were having an affair, it goes on to reveal that alternate dimension Harcourt is also involved with the Rick from her universe amid Christopher Smith’s (John Cena) attempt to woo her when he wakes up in that world at the start of this episode following his boozy night with the 11th Street Kids.

The revelation of Harcourt’s bond with Rick Jr. explains a lot when it comes to her initial hatred towards Peacemaker in Season 1; after all, Chris killed Rick Jr. during their mission in Corto Maltese. When it came to Kinnaman’s return and incorporation into this storyline, series creator and DC Comics co-head James Gunn tells TV Insider that was part of the plan “since before we shot Season 1, that Harcourt and Rick Flag had had an affair and were having an affair when he got killed… but beyond that they were also friends, and Economos is friends with him too.”

“That’s the reason they’re so negative towards Peacemaker when he comes on board at the beginning,” Gunn explains, “even though morally, obviously, Harcourt is as fluid as Peacemaker is throughout Season 1.”

As for having Kinnaman step into the alternate dimension as “jarhead” Rick Flag, Gunn was excited to allow the actor to have some more comedic moments as he nervously tiptoes around Chris. “Joel and I are good friends, so I asked him to do me a favor, but I also wanted to give him an opportunity to do something that’s purely comedic, because he’s a really funny guy,” Gunn explains.

“He’s never been in a comedy his entire life, so being able to show him doing this sort of namby-pamby version of Rick Flag Jr. … every time I watch those scenes, I laugh out loud,” Gunn admits.

While the alternate dimension allowed for a Peacemaker-Rick reunion of sorts, it also opened Chris’s eyes to the reality of this new world, in which Harcourt is less jagged around the edges and he’s a beloved hero. See what Holland has to say about embracing that other side of Harcourt in the alternate dimension, David Denman talk about donning Keith’s super suit, and Steve Agee talk about Economos’s reunion with Judomaster in the full video interview above.

James Gunn Still ‘Working On’ Viola Davis-Led Amanda Waller Series

by jummy84 August 31, 2025
written by jummy84

With multiple projects in the pipeline for the newly constructed DCU, James Gunn is assuring fans that, among them, is a long-gestating series focused on Task Force X leader Amanda Waller, originated onscreen by Oscar winner Viola Davis in 2016’s Suicide Squad.

Speaking to People in a recent interview, the Superman helmer confirmed he and DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran are still “working on” the show.

He said, “We’re working on it, so we’ll see what happens. Some things have moved faster than others. Waller’s not been the fastest. But I can’t wait to see Viola put on their Waller pants again.”

Gunn is echoing sentiments both he and Safran expressed back in February, telling Deadline then that Waller — about the amoral U.S. government espionage director who dispatches the criminal misfit Suicide Squad team on missions — remains in the works, despite the project remaining difficult to break.

“We’ve taken a couple of cracks at Waller, and we haven’t been able to land it,” Safran said at the time.

“We’re still working on it,” Gunn added, also noting the duo had to prioritize another spinoff, Peacemaker. “Waller has been tough, the strike was tough on Waller, there was a certain amount time that we needed to do Peacemaker first.”

“We were going to go with Waller before Peacemaker [Season 2], but I wrote Peacemaker quickly and we were ready to go,” Gunn concluded.

Davis played Waller in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad and its sequel, 2021’s The Suicide Squad, from Gunn. News of the Waller spinoff was first announced back in 2022, revealed at the time to feature Watchmen writer Christal Henry as scribe and executive producer alongside Davis. While Peacemaker is a comedy, Waller would fall into the drama category; Davis reprised the character in Peacemaker Season 1.

A year later, it was announced Doom Patrol creator Jeremy Carver would join Henry to co-write Waller.

Aside from Waller, Max will release the forthcoming spinoff, Lanterns, aiming to debut in early 2026.

CHRIS PRATT WON’T BE BATMAN, BUT HE’S NOT OUT OF THE DCU YET! James Gunn Spills The Beans On Pratt’s Future In DC Universe! | Glamsham.com

by jummy84 August 29, 2025

DC Studios co-head James Gunn has confirmed that actor Chris Pratt will not be donning the cape and cowl as Batman in the DC Universe (DCU). Gunn, who previously directed Pratt in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, clarified while speaking with EScorpionGolden: “As Batman? No. As something else? Yes.” He added that he would love to collaborate with Pratt again, but the right character within DC still needs to be determined.

Other Contenders for the Cowl
With Batman set to debut in the DCU through The Brave and the Bold—directed by Andy Muschietti—several actors have already expressed interest in playing the Dark Knight.
Jensen Ackles, star of The Boys, revealed he would consider the role but admitted the immense pressure of living up to previous portrayals. He explained: “It would be hard to carve out something truly unique… I’d be nervous as hell to carry that, but also proud. Anybody who gets to wear the cowl, they got something.”

Alan Ritchson, best known for Reacher, enthusiastically said he’d play Batman without hesitation, joking: “You wouldn’t even have to pay me. I would don the suit. [In a Batman voice] ‘Gotham is mine.’ It just comes out naturally.”

What’s Next for Batman in the DCU
The Brave and the Bold will explore Batman’s relationship with Robin in a father-son dynamic, a fresh take within Gunn’s DCU slate. Meanwhile, Robert Pattinson’s version of Batman continues separately under Matt Reeves’ The Batman franchise, with The Batman: Part II in development.

While speculation continues, Gunn stressed that no actor has yet been chosen to play the DCU’s Batman, keeping the door open for new casting possibilities.

Janelle James on Abbott Elementary, Fame, Emmys

by jummy84 August 25, 2025
written by jummy84

It’s not easy to make audiences fall in love with a character who behaves terribly, but that has been the bread and butter of the guest on the 600th episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter, which was recorded in front of an audience at Chapman University: stand-up comedian and actress Janelle James, who is best known — and currently Emmy-nominated for the fourth time — for playing Ava Coleman, the narcissistic, incompetent, morally compromised, toxic, but somehow still lovable principal at a Philadelphia K-8 school on Quinta Brunson’s hit ABC comedy series, Abbott Elementary.

Over the course of the conversation, James, 45, reflects on her early years in St. Thomas, coming to New York and then, in Illinois, stumbling into stand-up comedy. She speaks about touring with Chris Rock, Amy Schumer and David Cross and writing for BET’s The Rundown With Robin Thede (2017) and Showtime’s Black Monday (2020-21), the latter of which also led to her acting for the first time. And she dishes about the casting process that led to her winning the part of Ava on Abbott Elementary, which has brought her not only Emmy nominations but also nominations for SAG, Golden Globe, Critics Choice and Spirit awards and, along with her castmates, the best comedy ensemble SAG Award.

She also candidly discusses the pros and cons of sudden celebrity and wealth, and of acting on a network show, as opposed to a cable or streaming program (as is the case for every one of her fellow 2025 best supporting actress in a comedy series Emmy nominees). She lifts the veil on some of the comedic and physical challenges of playing Ava. And she breaks down her assignment on the fourth season of Abbott — during which Ava reconnected with her father, found a love interest and lost her job — and concurs with the host’s assertion that it is the season for which she made her strongest case yet to take home an Emmy.
