Netflix's The Abandons isn't a complete mess – but there's a problem

Netflix’s The Abandons isn’t a complete mess – but there’s a problem

by jummy84 December 4, 2025
written by jummy84

As the so-called ‘streaming wars’ march on, it seems some of the participants are in a bind. Do they double down on the areas in which they have become successful and for which they are known, or branch out and try and take one another on at their own games?

When it comes to Netflix, at least when it was in the stage of commissioning a few years ago, it seems they opted for the latter. While Paramount+ may have become known as the home of Westerns thanks to Taylor Sheridan’s hugely popular Yellowstone, the original streamer clearly wanted a piece of the pie.

In fact, it didn’t just want one piece, but multiple. In just the past 14 months, we have seen the debuts of Territory, American Primeval and Ransom Canyon – to varying success.

Now, it’s the turn of The Abandons, a seven-part series which was first ordered in 2022 and which, according to reports, has had quite the troubled path to the screen.

We know for sure that this first season was originally meant to be made up of 10 episodes, but the number has shifted repeatedly over the years, now coming in at an irregular seven.

We also know that its creator Kurt Sutter, who had been thinking about the series before his previous show Sons of Anarchy even began, left it entirely just three weeks before shooting was set to wrap.

When this news broke, Deadline reported that it was due to creative differences. That report also noted that the first episode had to be cut in two and a new cliffhanger created in the middle, due to it originally running for 1 hours and 40 minutes, and that Netflix bosses felt the episodes were “disjointed and not propulsive enough”.

Naturally, although I attempted to put this history out of my mind when viewing the episodes, there is a part of me which was looking for signs of this apparent dysfunction in the final product, expecting one almighty mess to have been birthed. Thankfully, on that front, I have some good news.

While there are elements of this on display, with strange episode lengths and some abrupt endings, for the most part this is a competently put together series. If you didn’t know, I doubt you’d know. However, sadly, I have to report there is actually a bigger problem with the series, one which cannot be ignored.

Clayton Cardenas as Quentin Serra, Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers as Oma Serra, Katelyn Wells as Samara Alderton, Lena Headey as Fiona Nolan, Nick Robinson as Elias Teller and Diana Silvers as Dahlia Teller in The Abandons.

For context – the series stars Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson as the matriarchs of two very different families, both living in Washington Territory in 1854.

Headey’s Fiona heads up a found family – the titular Abandons. She was unable to have her own children, and instead has raised a group of orphans and outcasts.

Meanwhile, Anderson’s Constance is the head of the wealthy Van Ness family, who is trying to get her hands on the land held by the Abandons, as it is rich in silver. She and her family will use any means to take the land, but the Abandons will not give it up without a fight.

Other stars who play key roles include Nick Robinson, Diana Silvers, Lamar Johnson, Natalia Del Riego, Lucas Till and Aisling Franciosi, with all doing sterling work here.

So, what’s the problem? Well, the truth of the matter is that The Abandons is just really rather dull.

The Deadline report noted a concern within Netflix that the series wasn’t propulsive enough, and I would say that despite all the apparent scrambling behind the scenes to rectify this, it is still the biggest problem with the series.

Having watched all seven episode, once all is said and done, I have to say that very little of substance actually happened. There’s an inciting incident, followed by a whole lot of pontificating and really rather mild family drama.

In among this, there are a number of different individual stories, each of which works to a greater or lesser extent, but none of which exactly romp through at a quick pace, nor are any of them in any way substantively new.

Perhaps the strongest of these storyline is a romance between Nick Robinson’s Elias, a member of the Abandons, and Trisha, the Van Ness daughter.

It has some sweet moment and some dramatic moments for sure, and both actors give it their all, making it entirely watchable. Yet it’s all just so utterly clichéd – if you haven’t watched a star-crossed, forbidden lovers storyline you really haven’t engaged with any form of art of media.

The odd cliché can be overlooked or even enjoyed – sometimes a cliché is a cliché for a reason, because it’s a tried and tested form of storytelling that works on a deeply human level.

But when almost everything in a series falls into that camp, you start to wonder what exactly the point of it all is – especially when the whole thing is moving at such a glacial pace.

I suppose we’ll never know what Sutter’s original version of this would have been before any behind the scenes changes were made, but this does certainly feel like a Western made by a committee – a series which is desperately trying to capture a zeitgeist and which is therefore playing into every trope imaginable, with little of its own to say.

One would think that given it is led by two female leads in their fifties, it would at least have something novel and exciting to explore there. But, alas, there seems to be no interest in exploring what this means, given the time period and setting.

The series also takes itself far too seriously, meaning it’s not only narratively dull, but also tonally.

Lamar Johnson as Albert Mason, Diana Silvers as Dahlia Teller, Lena Headey as Fiona Nolan, Nick Robinson as Elias Teller and Natalia del Riego as Lilla Belle in The Abandons, riding horses through a dark field, lit up by trees on fire.

Lamar Johnson as Albert Mason, Diana Silvers as Dahlia Teller, Lena Headey as Fiona Nolan, Nick Robinson as Elias Teller and Natalia del Riego as Lilla Belle in The Abandons. Michelle Faye/Netflix

As with most series, there are still elements of worth here to discuss. For one thing, it’s visually stunning. It’s been reported that the series has been given quite the budget, and that certainly would seem to be the case given the incredible locations and visual splendour on screen.

As previously mentioned, there’s also the matter of the cast – even if the majority of them, if not all of them, are really rather wasted.

Headey and Anderson make for compelling nemeses in their scenes together, and there are glimpses of what this series could have been were there more chances for them to shine, and opportunities for deeper character scenes.

Were we allowed to see more of this dynamic, perhaps with a slimmed down cast and more focused gaze, then that also could have helped the series stand out from the crowd. A proper cat-and-mouse game between two matriarchs in the 1800s? That sounds like an interesting show.

Michiel Huisman as Xavier Roache in The Abandons.

Michiel Huisman as Xavier Roache in The Abandons. Michelle Faye/Netflix

But as it is, we get snippets of so many stories, most of which we’ve seen many times in different forms before, all in a backdrop which is sumptuous, no doubt, but which is also well explored within the genre, and at this point more an expectation than a bonus.

Maybe Western obsessives will find something to enjoy here – I have to confess that while I am certainly a big fan of a number of Western films and series, I am not a real devotee of the genre.

However, I would imagine that even they may find themselves growing tired of the show’s langorous pace and its stock characters and plots.

The fact that The Abandons is perfectly watchable and seems to be largely unencumbered by its behind-the-scenes shake-ups should be of some comfort for Netflix. However, if they thought this would be their rival to Yellowstone, think again. A franchise-starter this ain’t – it’s just a pale imitation of one.

The Abandons is available to stream now on Netflix. Sign up for Netflix from £5.99 a month. Netflix is also available on Sky Glass and Virgin Media Stream.

Is Jimmy Kimmel Off the Air Again? Why the Show Isn’t on Now – Hollywood Life

Jimmy Kimmel announced to his audience on Tuesday, November 11, that his late-night talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, would be off the air for a few days. For those who didn’t tune into the episode, some viewers were concerned about what this short-term hiatus means for the comedian. After all, ABC suspended his show for about a week just two months prior.

So, why is Kimmel off the air, and when is he expected to return? Below, here’s what you need to know about Kimmel’s temporary hiatus this week.

Is Jimmy Kimmel Off the Air Again?

Yes, but only for a brief time. Kimmel announced during his November 11 show that he and his crew would “take the next couple nights off.”

Why Is Jimmy Kimmel Not on the Air?

Kimmel’s show is on a brief hiatus due to the death of its house bandleader, Cleto Escobedo III, who died at the age of 59 on November 11. He is survived by his wife and children.

How Did Cleto Escobedo Die? His Cause of death

A cause of death for Escobedo was not immediately disclosed. However, Kimmel thanked the medical staff at UCLA Health for taking care of his late friend “during these awful few months.”

Was Cleto Escobedo Sick Before He Died?

Neither Kimmel nor anyone from Escobedo’s inner circle has revealed whether or not the musician was battling an illness. Page Six reported that Escobedo had complications from a liver transplant.

When Will Jimmy Kimmel Be Back on the Air?

There is no definitive answer on which day Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be back on the air, but his hiatus will only be a “couple” of nights, he said.

During the talk show host’s emotional monologue, Kimmel began by saying this was his “hardest” in more than 20 years.

“We’ve been on the air for almost 23 years, and I’ve had to do some hard monologues along the way, but this one’s the hardest,” Kimmel said through tears. “Early this morning, we lost someone very special, who was much too young to go, and I’d like to tell you about him.”

Kimmel added that he was “grateful for my friends, Cleto’s friends … everyone who checked in on him, everyone who called and visited him, who’ve been helping his family. Everyone here at our show has been so supportive.”

Dharmendra Isn’t Dead, But Journalism Might Be: The Curious Case Of Media Hoaxes

by jummy84 November 13, 2025
written by jummy84

Last week’s false reports about veteran actor Dharmendra’s death once again exposed the rot within India’s digital news ecosystem. The news spread like wildfire, amplified by dozens of unverified posts, fan tributes and misleading headlines. Within hours, the rumour had taken a life of its own, forcing the actor’s family to step in and stop the chaos.

It was Hema Malini, Dharmendra’s wife and fellow actor, who finally broke the silence. Condemning the fake news, she said that such fabrications were “unforgivable” and appealed to people not to spread unverified information. Her statement restored some calm but also reignited a larger conversation on how digital-age journalism has turned into a race where verification often comes second to virality.

The incident became a case study of how the need to be first can often come at the cost of being right. News portals, influencers and even some entertainment reporters hastily picked up the story without official confirmation. Within minutes, the rumour turned into an “obituary,” and the audience, conditioned by social media’s urgency, responded emotionally before reason could intervene. By the time fact-checkers debunked it, the false news had already reached millions.

This wasn’t the first time such misinformation shook the industry. Over the years, several actors have fallen prey to premature obituaries. In 2016, similar hoaxes targeted Dilip Kumar, whose health updates often became clickbait. In 2022, Lata Mangeshkar’s family had to issue clarifications multiple times before her actual demise, as rumours of her “critical condition” flooded timelines. Even icons such as Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth have faced such baseless reports.

Each instance chips away at public trust in the media. The entertainment beat, once defined by exclusive interviews and thoughtful critiques, has increasingly become a realm where “breaking news” thrives on speed, not accuracy. Journalists, particularly in online platforms, are now caught in a system that rewards immediacy over integrity. As a result, a single unverified tweet can snowball into nationwide panic within minutes.

For public figures like Dharmendra, the emotional toll is immense. Beyond the personal distress caused to their families, such fake news also disrupts their relationship with the public. Actors who once relied on the media to convey genuine updates now hesitate to engage, fearing misrepresentation or sensationalism. This breakdown of trust harms both sides, the stars, who become victims of rumours and the audiences, who grow increasingly cynical of everything they read.

In Hema Malini’s words, calling the situation “unforgivable” was a reflection of frustration with a news culture that seems to have lost its ethical compass. Her statement reminded both journalists and readers that death, especially, is not a subject for speculation or online engagement. When rumours of such magnitude circulate unchecked, they do more than misinform, they desensitise people to the value of truth and empathy.

The “minute-by-minute” style of modern journalism has turned every update into a potential scoop. But this speed-based reporting has blurred the line between news and noise. What once required confirmation from official sources now depends on trending keywords and viral posts. In the process, even established outlets risk their credibility by amplifying falsehoods under the guise of urgency.

The curious case of Dharmendra’s fake death is therefore not just about one actor, it’s a reflection of how newsrooms have evolved in the digital era. The audience too plays a role, often forwarding or reposting stories without pausing to verify them. This collective negligence has created an ecosystem where misinformation thrives and outrage becomes a substitute for truth.

In the end, Hema Malini’s firm response stood in stark contrast to the chaos that surrounded the incident. Her words served as a reminder that in the pursuit of “being first,” journalism has forgotten the dignity of being right. For an actor like Dharmendra, who has entertained generations, the least the media owes him, and others like him, is the courtesy of truth.

RefTech Marks 10 Years of ISO 27001 Certification: Proving That Security Isn’t Just a Standard, It’s a Culture

by jummy84 November 11, 2025
written by jummy84

RefTech is celebrating a decade of ISO 27001 certification – the internationally recognised gold standard for information security. This milestone confirms RefTech’s commitment to keeping client and employee data secure through robust, continually improving systems that have become embedded in the day-to-day running of the business.

“Ten years ago, achieving ISO 27001 was a huge project,” says Penny Sellers, Sales and Operations Director and joint Compliance Manager at RefTech. “We already had strong systems in place, but we had to elevate everything to the next level to ensure full compliance – from refining processes and policies to enhancing staff training and physical infrastructure. Today, it’s second nature. Our systems and procedures are so ingrained that new staff don’t even realise they’re following ISO standards – it’s simply how we work.”

ISO 27001 is awarded to companies that establish, implement, maintain and improve an Information Security Management System (ISMS) that covers everything from technical measures such as encrypted networks and secure data storage, to physical access controls, CCTV, alarms and strict internal permissions.

“It’s not just about protecting client data,” says Sellers. “It covers all data, including our own employee records. Everything from how we onboard staff to how we handle incoming client delegate data is governed by our ISMS.”

Over the years, ISO standards have evolved; RefTech moved from the 2013 version to the 2017 standard, and now operates under the 2022 revision, but the principle has remained the same: a rigorous, evidence-based audit of how the company protects its information.

Annual independent audits ensure compliance. Auditors are on-site for two days, testing everything from business continuity plans to staff awareness. “They can ask any member of staff a question,” says Sellers. “Everyone has to know their role in keeping data secure.”

Despite widespread recognition of the ISO standard, Sellers notes that only a small percentage of clients specifically seek out suppliers with the certification. More often, it’s once the relationship is underway that the security questions begin. “We get asked to complete increasingly detailed supplier questionnaires. Having ISO helps, but some clients still want extensive extra information.”

RefTech was the first registration company to gain ISO 27001 and remains one of the few to have retained it for a full decade. “Plenty of suppliers claim to be secure, but ISO 27001 proves it. We’re proud to have maintained this standard for 10 years. It shows our clients that security isn’t just a box to tick, it’s a fundamental part of who we are,” concludes Sellers.

For companies wanting to know more about RefTech’s decade of ISO certification, please visit stand C44 at Event Tech Live – 12th & 13th November, Excel London.

“Jatadhara Isn’t About Entertaining Darkness, It’s About Confronting It,” States Producer Prerna Arora

by jummy84 October 29, 2025
written by jummy84

Zee Studios and Prerna Arora’s Jatadhara trailer has sparked a nationwide reaction owing to its intense, emotional, and larger than life visuals. The film’s raw and spiritually, commanding screen presence of Sudheer Babu, and menacing avatar of Sonakshi Sinha have left audiences both fascinated and shaken, and set the tone to watch the film in cinemas on November 7, 2025.

Prerna Arora On Jatadhara

Speaking about the overwhelming response the trailer of Jatadhara received, Prerna Arora shared, “The kind of emotional and electric reaction the trailer has received is overwhelming. As a producer, belief is always the foundation. When I made films like Rustom, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, and Padman, those subjects had never entered mainstream cinema before either. Yet they became global conversations. With Jatadhara, we had the same conviction — and seeing people connect so deeply is truly reassuring.”

Speaking on the resurgence of supernatural cinema with titles like Stree 2, Munjya, and Kantara, Prerna insists Jatadhara stands apart. She said, “This isn’t a comedy or a folk-fantasy. Jatadhara is raw, spiritually intense, and emotionally driven. It goes beyond black magic and fear. At its core, the film is about faith, innocence, and how ordinary people get pulled into extraordinary forces. The horror here isn’t just visual it’s psychological, moral, and deeply human. We’re not trying to entertain darkness; we’re confronting the consequences of it.”

Prerna Arora: Jatadhara Approaches The Subject Of Black Magic With Rare Authenticity

Tackling the theme of black magic, still considered taboo across India, Jatadhara approaches the subject with rare authenticity and explains the same, she said.” It’s real — not fictional. We live in an era of Instagram and podcasts, yet stories of black magic still emerge from the biggest cities, the most influential places. Jatadhara doesn’t sensationalize it; it treats it with truth. Black magic isn’t a side-track here, it’s an integral narrative force that shapes the destiny of the characters.”

The film’s unflinching visuals and spiritual darkness naturally posed challenges during certification. However, Prerna reveals the team stayed uncompromising in their vision. “With a subject like this, we were fully prepared for the battle. Coming from my last horror film, Pari, I was very clear that we would not dilute or negotiate the honesty of the film. We received an A certificate with negligible cuts, which is exactly what we wanted. Jatadhara is meant to be experienced in its pure and uncompromised form. We’re extremely grateful to the censor board for understanding the soul of the film and passing it with such grace and belief.”

With Jatadhara, the makers are ready to present larger than life storytelling with emotional depth, crafting a cinematic experience that promises to challenge, unsettle, and move audiences in equal measure.

Amazon Web Services experienced a massive outage today, October 20, 2025, which prompted a domino effect among other online platforms. From Venmo to Snapchat, internet users complained they experiencing problems loading their accounts while Amazon tried to resolve the issue throughout the day. Even Reddit users complained of problems using their accounts.

Below, get an update on whether or not Reddit is back up and running for users amid the widespread AWS outage.

Is Reddit Still Down Today?

For some users, yes — Reddit is still not working for some people, according to Downdetector. The highest amount of complaints was at around 6:00 a.m. ET, then reports of outages decreased throughout the day. However, multiple customers were still complaining by 3:00 p.m. ET that their Reddit accounts were still glitching.

“I just wanted to edit a comment, and now I’m incapable of doing literally anything except for DMing people,” one person commented on Downdetector. Another person chimed in by writing, “Ugh, Reddit not working. My pictures on my posts are saying deleted.”

A third user went so far as to comment, “While AWS is down, we’re all land-locked.”

Why Was Reddit Not Working?

Reddit seemingly wasn’t working for most of the day on October 20, 2025, because of the widespread AWS outage. Since Reddit has not publicly pointed to the AWS issue, it’s unclear what exactly caused the apparent problems that users reported.

On its official Reddit Status X account, the platform acknowledged the issue at around 6:30 a.m. ET. “Investigating: We’re experiencing an elevated level of errors and are currently looking into the issue.”

Multiple platforms including Venmo, Snapchat, Asana and the Ring Doorbell system all experienced errors today due to the AWS issue.

Who Owns Reddit?

Advance Publications, the parent company of media conglomerate Condé Nast, owns Reddit.

What Did the AWS Outage Affect?

The AWS outage seemed to hit the entire internet pretty hard. With the exception of social media platforms including Meta’s Facebook and Instagram and Elon Musk‘s X.com, the Amazon outage appeared to impact numerous online services. Even banks and airlines were affected.

From Snapchat to Venmo, and even two airlines, the AWS outage on October 20, 2025, caused mass pandemonium around the world. Though Amazon said it was able to identify the problem, multiple online services and apps still aren’t working for countless users. And for those trying to make and receive payments, the urgency to restore Venmo is rising. So, is Venmo still down, or will transactions still be on pause?

Below, get a status update on Venmo, and learn how its outage happened.

Why Is Venmo Not Working?

Venmo likely wasn’t working on October 20 because of the widespread AWS outage. Though Amazon does not own Venmo, its online service shutdown sent shockwaves throughout the technology industry, affecting airlines, banks and other essential services.

The problem exploded in the early morning hours on October 20. While Amazon promptly said it “mitigated” the outage, it still warned users that they could still see errors in loading certain apps and platforms.

“The underlying DNS issue has been fully mitigated, and most AWS Service operations are succeeding normally now,” Amazon said in a statement. “Some requests may be throttled while we work toward full resolution. Additionally, some services are continuing to work through a backlog of events such as Cloudtrail and Lambda.”

Venmo has yet to publicly comment on its outage. The last update the company made was via its X account four days ago on October 16 about its Taco Bell Rewards deal. Multiple commenters complained under the post that they were logged out of their accounts and couldn’t access them.

Now there’s an easier way to get a free taco. Just pay with Venmo in the Taco Bell app. It’s basically a free taco button.

— Venmo (@Venmo) October 16, 2025

Is Venmo Still Down?

Yes, for thousands of Venmo customers, the app is still down at the time of publication. According to Downdetector, a surge in outage reports came at around 11:00 a.m. ET, and it decreased by noon.

Who Owns Venmo?

PayPal has owned Venmo since 2013.

When Will Venmo Be Back Up?

Since Venmo has yet to comment on its outage, it’s unclear when the app will be completely restored. However, according to Graeme Bragg, a computer networking expert from the University of Southampton, the issues with all online platforms might continue for “the rest of the day.”

“This morning, an issue affecting Amazon’s US East caused significant disruption, with the underlying cause attributed to a problem with DNS – the ‘phone book’ of the internet that helps computers find each other,” Bragg said, according to The Independent. “This has affected lots of services hosted in different regions because Amazon host a lot of their management infrastructure that other services depend on in that region. This is a significant outage because of how many companies rely on Amazon and the global scale of the impact.”

Bragg continued, “The underlying issue has now been resolved but it will take some time to propagate across the internet. Amazon’s servers also have a backlog of requests to work through, so it’s likely that we will see some disruption for the rest of the day.”

Internet and social media users woke up to a mass outage on October 20, 2025, which was mostly attributed to an AWS failure. One of the services that was affected was the popular Ring Doorbell camera and its app, which provides customers with a live feed from their doorstep.

Below, get a status update on the Ring Doorbell service, and find out what happened to it today.

Is Ring Still Down?

Ring doesn’t appear to be completely down anymore for most users, but some are still reporting problems on Downdetector.

One user commented on Downdetector at around 10:00 a.m. ET, writing, “One of my cameras is showing as offline, but my doorbell camera is working. I unplugged the offline camera and plugged it back in and realized the “offline” camera was capturing static images before I unplugged it. Since plugging it back in, it is not.” Shortly thereafter, they updated their comment to note, “Unplugged it and plugged it in again and the snapshots updated for the time none were showing up. Security Camera is still offline. Doorbell camera is still working.”

At 11:37 a.m. ET, Ring acknowledged the problem in an X post, which read, “We are aware of a service interruption impacting multiple Ring systems. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding while we work to resolve the interruption.”

Why Is the Ring Doorbell App Not Working?

The Ring service went down on October 20 due to the widespread AWS outage, which Amazon acknowledged. The company pointed to a “DNS issue.”

“The underlying DNS issue has been fully mitigated, and most AWS Service operations are succeeding normally now,” AWS said in a statement, per CNN. “Some requests may be throttled while we work toward full resolution. Additionally, some services are continuing to work through a backlog of events such as Cloudtrail and Lambda.”

What Apps & Online Services Aren’t Working Today?

Quite a few online services went down today, October 20, including Snapchat, which is not owned by Amazon. Canva, Hulu, Disney and AT&T also faced problems, and airlines were even impacted. Delta and United airlines were impacted by the global online outage.

Major Internet Outage Status

The international online service outage even affected some of the U.K.’s banks in addition to the American airline companies, Delta and United.

According to University of Southampton’s computer networking expert Graeme Bragg, the problem was due to a DNS failure on Amazon’s part.

“This morning an issue affecting Amazon’s US East caused significant disruption, with the underlying cause attributed to a problem with DNS – the ‘phone book’ of the internet that helps computers find each other,” Bragg said, per The Independent.  “This has affected lots of services hosted in different regions because Amazon host a lot of their management infrastructure that other services depend on in that region. This is a significant outage because of how many companies rely on Amazon and the global scale of the impact.”

While the “underlying issue has now been resolved,” Bragg pointed out that it “will take some time to propagate across the internet.”

“Amazon’s servers also have a backlog of requests to work through, so it’s likely that we will see some disruption for the rest of the day,” Bragg added.

Sonakshi Sinha, Zaheer Iqbal’s Mosque Video Is Serene; But Online Reaction Isn’t

In a newly released advertisement for Abu Dhabi tourism, actor-couple Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal are seen exploring the serene beauty of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. The video, shared by Sonakshi on her Instagram, has garnered significant attention, not just for its stunning visuals but also for igniting a conversation about the public’s perception of celebrities, especially when compared to a similar recent promotion featuring Deepika Padukone.

In the promotional clip, Sonakshi and Zaheer are depicted walking gracefully through the grand corridors and courtyards of the iconic mosque. The couple posed for several shots against the backdrop of the mosque’s magnificent architecture. For the visit, Sonakshi was dressed in an elegant green and white printed short kurta and pyjama set, with her head respectfully covered by a matching green dupatta. Zaheer complemented her look in a black shirt paired with green trousers. Sharing the video with her followers, Sonakshi captioned the post, “Found a little sukoon (peace), right here in Abu Dhabi! @visitabudhabi #InAbuDhabi #ad.”

The post was quickly met with a wave of comments from fans and followers. Many praised the couple’s appearance and the aesthetic quality of the video. One user commented, “Your dress totally matches the aesthetic,” while another simply wrote, “Beautiful.” However, the conversation soon took a more complex turn as users began to draw parallels between Sonakshi’s post and the recent criticism faced by Deepika Padukone, who was also featured in a tourism ad where she wore a hijab.

One fan pointed out the perceived double standard in the public’s reaction, writing, “So it’s normal for Sonakshi but not for Deepika?? Both visited the same mosque, and both looked wonderfully amazing with their husbands. Can we stop trolling people and let them live peacefully?” This sentiment was echoed by others who defended the act of covering one’s head as a sign of respect in a place of worship, regardless of one’s personal faith. “In a temple or a mosque, it’s a spiritual thing to cover the head, whether or not you’re a Hindu or a Muslim,” another person commented, highlighting the cultural significance of the gesture.

This public discourse comes as Sonakshi and Zaheer continue to share glimpses of their life together since their wedding. The couple tied the knot on June 23 of last year in an intimate ceremony at their Mumbai residence, surrounded by close family and friends. The private affair was followed by a grand reception at Bastian, attended by numerous Bollywood celebrities. In a heartfelt wedding post, they shared, “On this very day, seven years back (23.06.2017) in each other’s eyes, we saw love in its purest form and decided to hold on to it.”
On the professional front, Sonakshi Sinha’s career is bustling with activity. She was last seen in the psychological thriller Nikita Roy, which was released in theatres on July 18. The film was particularly special as it marked the directorial debut of her brother, Kussh Sinha.

Fans are now eagerly awaiting her next venture, a Telugu film titled Jatadhara, where she will star alongside Sudheer Babu. The film is scheduled to hit theatres on November 7 and features a large ensemble cast including Divya Khossla, Shilpa Shirodkar, and Indira Krishna. Directed by Venkat Kalyan and Abhishek Jaiswal, the project marks Sonakshi’s expansion into regional cinema, promising another versatile performance from the acclaimed actress.

bitchy | A federal judge dismissed Drake’s lawsuit against UMG, a rap battle isn’t ‘against the law’

Last year, Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s years-long simmering beef came to a boil. First it was Kendrick’s verse on Future & Metro’s “Like That.” Then Drake spent weeks trying to goad Kendrick into a rap battle. Kendrick finally responded, dropping four songs in less than a week. The last two songs, “Meet the Grahams” and “Not Like Us” came out within 24 hours, and they were perfectly executed disses. “Not Like Us” became the song of the year (literally, it won the Grammy for SOTY) and Kendrick even performed “Not Like Us” and “Euphoria” during the Super Bowl Halftime. Drake has not been the same since. Instead of just licking his wounds, taking the L like a man and going away for a year, Drake decided to make a horse’s ass out of himself in like twenty different ways. Notably, Drake sued UMG – his label, and the label which has a licensing deal with Kendrick’s pgLang. In his lawsuit, Drake claimed that UMG *wanted* Kendrick to beat him in the rap battle, and UMG helped Kendrick in some way which Drake could never prove. Well, long story short, a judge just threw out Drake’s lawsuit. Hahahaha LOSER.

A federal judge on Thursday (Oct. 9) dismissed Drake’s defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group over Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” ruling that a “war of words” during a “heated rap battle” did not violate the law.

Drake’s case, filed earlier this year, claimed that UMG defamed him by releasing Lamar’s scathing diss track, which tarred his arch-rival as a “certified pedophile.” He believed that millions of people took that lyric literally, severely harming his reputation. But just ten months later, Judge Jeannette Vargas granted UMG’s motion to dismiss the case at the outset – ruling that Kendrick’s insulting lyrics were the kind of “hyperbole” that cannot be defamatory because listeners would not think they were statements of fact.

“The artists’ seven-track rap battle was a ‘war of words’ that was the subject of substantial media scrutiny and online discourse,” the judge wrote. “Although the accusation that plaintiff is a pedophile is certainly a serious one, the broader context of a heated rap battle, with incendiary language and offensive accusations hurled by both participants, would not incline the reasonable listener to believe that ‘Not Like Us’ imparts verifiable facts about plaintiff.”

The ruling marks an abrupt end to a legal battle that stunned the music industry. Few expected a rapper to respond to a diss track with a lawsuit – a move that drew ridicule in the hip hop world and condemnation from legal scholars. Fewer still expected him to file it against UMG, his longtime record label and the biggest music company in the world.

Drake’s attorneys can appeal the ruling to a federal appeals court. His attorneys did not immediately return a request for comment. A spokesman for UMG also did not immediately return a request for comment.

While I didn’t follow the minute details of this lawsuit, I saw enough to say that UMG actually took the right position at the start of the beef. UMG’s management basically chose to sit on the sidelines and let the rap battle play out. They didn’t choose sides – they just didn’t “help” Drake, which is why he sued them. He’s spent the past decade getting high from his own supply, and he thought his label would tip the scale in his favor. All of the things he accused UMG of – without evidence, mind you – was projection, I believe. Drake thought UMG was doing all of that against him, because he was used to UMG propping him up.

Here’s the “Not Like Us” video again. It has over 403 million views. The YT video of just the song (with Megan’s Law markers over Drake’s house) has over 258 million views.
