Abhishek Bachchan hits back at journalist for accusing him of buying Best Actor award: ‘I will prove you wrong’

by jummy84 October 29, 2025
written by jummy84

Abhishek Bachchan has experienced an inspiring journey in Bollywood as an actor. Following in his superstar father Amitabh Bachchan’s footsteps, Abhishek began his career in the Hindi film industry with J. P. Dutta’s war drama Refugee (2000). Even though there were some bumps in the way, he went on to emerge as one of the most versatile performers that Bollywood had ever witnessed. But throughout his journey, Abhishek was considered underrated because of constant comparisons to his legendary father. So when he received his first ever Filmfare Award for Best Actor, for his performance in I Want to Talk (2024) last month, it felt like a personal win for many fans. However, some accused the actor of ‘buying’ the award.

Abhishek Bachchan

This morning, journalist Navneet Mundhra took to Twitter to share his thoughts on Abhishek Bachchan’s victory. The tweet read, “As much as he’s an affable guy, I hate to say that professionally #AbhishekBachchan is the prime example of how buying awards and aggressive PR pushes can keep you relevant… even if you don’t have a single SOLO blockbuster in your career. He won an award for #IWantToTalk this year… A film which no one saw apart from a few PAID reviewers. And now I see all these tweets saying 2025 is HIS year. HILARIOUS !! There are far better actors than him who deserve more recognition, work, appreciation & awards…. but alas! They don’t have PR smarts & money.” Well, Abhishek has politely hit back at the journalist.

Abhishek responded, “Just to set the record straight. Never has any award been bought or aggressive PR been done by me . Just hard work, blood, sweat and tears. But, doubt you’ll believe anything I say or write. So…. Best way to shut you up is by working even harder so that you don’t ever doubt any achievement that will happen in the future, again. I will prove you wrong! With all due respect and “affability”.”

When I Want to Talk released, many fans had lauded Abhishek’s performance, with some describing him as ‘better than Amitabh Bachchan’ in their reviews. Have you watched the Shoojit Sircar film yet?

After ‘Chainsaw Man’ Hits No. 1, How Does Crunchyroll Keep Doing This?

by jummy84 October 28, 2025
written by jummy84

It’s getting harder to call it “niche.” Crunchyroll, the anime streaming service, over the weekend had its second No. 1 hit at the box office in just two months. The first time around, it was the latest entry in the “Demon Slayer” franchise, “Kimetsu No Yaiba Infinity Castle.” With a $70.6 million domestic opening weekend, there were reasons to explain away that one as a fluke, the culmination of immense fandom for a particular anime series in a quiet week for the box office.

This weekend though was “Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc,” which beat out Bruce Springsteen, Colleen Hoover, Tron, and Ethan Hawke’s masked Grabber villain and made $17.2 million in its opening weekend. It’s based on a Japanese anime series about a boy who can grow a chainsaw out of his head, and a huge swell of Gen Alpha, Gen-Z, and Millennial men over-indexed to make this one a hit domestically, just as its already found a wave of success abroad.

Though these two opening weekends represent just the third time in Crunchyroll’s history that it’s topped the box office (in August 2022, “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero” hit No. 1 with a $21.1 million opening), Crunchyroll has seen some consistent performances dating back to even before it officially became a Sony brand in 2022. According to data from Comscore, Crunchyroll titles have opened with seven different starts domestically in the Top 5 dating back to 2019, including for other “Demon Slayer” and “Dragon Ball Super” films, as well as “My Hero Academia,” “One Piece Film Red,” and “Jujutsu Kaisen 0.”

So what’s going on here? And can Crunchyroll really keep this hot streak going?

In April 2024, Sony skipped its presentation at CinemaCon, but sent Crunchyroll in its place. They made the case that Japanese anime is a $37 billion industry and that Crunchyroll releases since 2020 had made $217 million in North American box office. The idea was that theaters need a diversity of content on their screens, and the passionate fanbases of young people that drive anime are absolutely the crowd that exhibitors should be catering to. Later that year, Crunchyroll’s parent company Sony took things even more seriously by acquiring Alamo Drafthouse in what looked to some like a good way of bolstering its anime business by acquiring a company known for its nerdy and passionate clientele.

But this year’s “Demon Slayer” film alone made more than half of what Crunchyroll had made in that entire four-year span, ultimately hitting $132 million domestic and $666 million worldwide. “Chainsaw Man” followed a similar playbook to “Demon Slayer,” opening in the Asia Pacific markets first before opening here, so the hype was already strong with an additional $90.7 million international before it ever hit the states. Reviews were strong too. IndieWire called “Chainsaw Man” both sad and sweet while also noting it’s a gorgeously animated anime bloodfest. You’re not getting all that from a Springsteen biopic.

Generally though, you see some crossover, mainstream audience appeal when you have surprise hits like this, and that’s not necessarily happening here. “Chainsaw Man” opened on over 3,000 screens but is still an R-rated anime that is finding its core audience. And many of those folks are driving its box office through premium screens, as it made a solid 19 percent of its business, or $3.3 million, from IMAX showings.

While Crunchyroll was already doing fine before it was acquired by Sony, pairing it with Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group these past few years has given these films a bit more worldwide marketing and distribution reach to make those hits more consistent. It’s probably the reason why Sony would be better equipped to make the most out of these anime releases than others.

Clearly, there’s a market here, and it’s already grown enough that Crunchyroll just made a deal to put anime on Delta flights. But, for most of us, your guess at figuring out which anime movie will pop next is as good as ours.

Before Participating In The Viral “Backup Dancer Challenge,” The Actor Spilled The Tea On Her Relationship With Ime Udoka

Before participating in the viral “backup dancer challenge,” the actor spilled the tea on her relationship with Ime Udoka. As The Shade Room previously reported, earlier this month, Long spoke exclusively with The Cut and opened up about co-parenting with her former fiancé following the 2022 cheating scandal that ended their romance.

At the time, Long shared that there’s a lot of “healing” to be done in their relationship. But she added that she and Udoka have a “mutual respect” for one another.

Charli xcx Hits the 2025 Academy Museum Gala—and the Lorde Show—in One Night

by jummy84 October 19, 2025
written by jummy84

She’s everywhere, she’s so Julia!

It doesn’t take an LA geography whiz to know that Charli xcx covered a lot of ground this past Saturday night, shuttling between The Kia Forum and the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Before her surprise performance of “Girl, so confusing” with Lorde at the Kiwi singer’s Inglewood show, Charli stopped by the 2025 Academy Museum Gala—in custom Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello, no less.

“It was sort of like back and forth from The Forum to the gala, which was a bit hectic,” Charli says. The soundtrack to her whirlwind getting-ready process inside the Forum? The Brian Jonestown Massacre.

While Charli recently attended the premiere of Erupcja at the Toronto International Film Festival, the Academy Gala unofficially signifies her movie star turn. (Also on the docket is her forthcoming A24 film, The Moment, a fictionalized account of Brat Summer, co-starring Alexander Skarsgård.) As anyone who follows her Letterboxd knows well, Charli is an avid cinephile. Her favorite recent watches? Jim Jarmusch’s Permanent Vacation and the forthcoming Marty Supreme “I will say Marty Supreme is the best film I’ve seen recently. Hands down,” she says. “It blew me away. It’s a film with so much passion. I was completely knocked out by it.”

What better way to mark her movie star style in the nexus of the film industry than in a custom gown based on Saint Laurent’s fall 2025 collection, complete with a sheer lace top and drop-waist leather ball skirt? “My stylist Chris Horan and I knew we wanted to work with Anthony on a dress for me with that kind of shape—we were just looking for the right moment,” Charli tells Vogue. “When the Academy Gala came up, we immediately thought of the shape but we all decided that to make the dress out of leather would be this extra unexpected twist on top. I completely love it.”

Here, Charli xcx brings Vogue along for the ride from The Forum to the 2025 Academy Gala.

The Labubu Craze Hits Season 5 in ‘Ballgame’ Episode With Philadelphia Phillies

by jummy84 October 16, 2025
written by jummy84

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Abbott Elementary Season 5 Episode 4, “Ballgame.”]

Abbott Elementary took the teachers out to a ballgame in the latest Season 5 episode, as select faculty enjoyed a Philadelphia Phillies game in celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week.

Before the educators hit the ballpark, though, Gregory (Tyler James Williams) observed his students playing with “Lafufus,” the knock-off version of the uber-popular toy, Labubus, which resembles little fuzzy monsters. Wondering aloud how the kids can afford Labubus, since they’re so expensive, one student, who is selling Lafufus clarifies that they’re more reasonably priced.

While you may wonder what this has to do with the Phillies game the Abbott faculty attends, it all connects to Janine’s (Quinta Brunson) close call with a stray ball, which bumps her in the head. It turns out, Janine is more than reluctant about attending the game, despite her boyfriend Gregory’s excitement, and she even pads her head with a helmet and a giant foam hat on top of that.

Disney / Gilles Mingasson

Eventually, she loosens up enough to take the helmet off just in time for her to get hit with the ball. As a means of compensation, the Phillies offer to have Janine and her colleagues meet their mascot, the Phillie Phanatic. While they’re pretty excited about the special treatment, it’s their opportunity to meet Phillies left fielder Kyle Schwarber.

Taking time to chat with them and sign souvenirs, Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter) ends up selling some of the autographs back at school, only to learn that the student who purchased them had attached them to her stash of Lafufus, raising their prices in the process. But instead of admonishing the girl for her business acumen, Melissa is rather impressed, and so are we.

And while a Schwarber signature might be worth +$50 to an Abbott student or teacher, the player’s appearance surely means a whole lot more to viewers at home tuning into this exciting episode. What did you think of Abbott Elementary‘s venture into the live sporting event space? Let us know in the comments section below, and let us know your take on the Lafufus empire being built by one of the students.

BLACKPINK’s Rosé hits major milestone with ‘APT.’

by jummy84 September 18, 2025
written by jummy84

BLACKPINK‘s Rosé has hit yet another major milestone with her hit single, ‘APT.’ featuring Bruno Mars.

  • READ MORE: Rosé and Bruno Mars’ ‘APT.’ is an addictively flirty and fun intro to the BLACKPINK star’s solo era

Last October, Rosé took the world by storm when she released ‘APT.’ with Bruno Mars. Very quickly, the song took over charts across the globe and social media.

Now, the K-pop star and BLACKPINK member has hit yet another landmark achievement, as it has now hit over 2billion views on YouTube in 10 months. It marks the first of her solo material to do so.

Watch the ever-energetic music video for ‘APT.’ below.

The achievement comes just days after she became the first-ever Korean act to win Song of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). ‘APT.’ broke numerous records and topped charts following its release in October – also becoming the fastest K-pop song to surpass one billion streams on Spotify.

‘APT.’ was named one of NME’s best 50 songs of 2024 and clinched the second spot on NME’s list of the best 25 K-pop songs of the year. Sara Delgado wrote of the track when it was awarded the second spot: “With pink-tinged flirty iconography, a genius interpolation of Toni Basil’s ‘Mickey’ and an infectiously funky chanted chorus, ‘APT.’ will go down in history as the perfect case study on how to launch a solo career. The cherry on top of a great package? The assist (vocally, but also creatively) from the ever-charismatic Bruno Mars.”

The song also scored a glowing five-star review, with NME’s Rhian Daly writing: “Truthfully, Rosé has never sounded as good as she does here. There’s a power and confidence in her voice that far surpasses her past performances, and the vintage pop-rock riffs and attitude – which echo with elements of Toni Basil, Blondie and Joan Jett – feel sublimely suited to her as an artist. Addictive, flirty and a whole lot of fun, ‘APT.’ is the perfect introduction to Rosé’s new chapter.”

‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Soundtrack Hits No. 1 on Billboard 200 Chart

by jummy84 September 14, 2025
written by jummy84

The soundtrack to Netflix’s animated film KPop Demon Hunters hits No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart for the first time, rising 2-1 on the chart dated Sept. 20, after seven nonconsecutive weeks in the runner-up slot. The set earned 128,000 equivalent album units in the United States in the week ending Sept. 11 (up 7%), according to Luminate, marking the album’s best week yet. The surge to No. 1 follows the album’s deluxe reissue on Sept. 5 with additional tracks, plus the wide release of its CD that day.

KPop Demon Hunters’ rise to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 was preceded by four top 10-charted hits on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart — the most from a soundtrack in nearly 30 years, with the soundtrack the first ever with four simultaneous top 10s. Among those is the No. 1 “Golden” by HUNTR/X — the trio of EJAE, Audrey Nuna and REI AMI (the singing voices of the film’s characters Rumi, Mira and Zoey).

KPop Demon Hunters is the Billboard 200’s first No. 1 soundtrack in three-and-a-half years, since another animated film, Encanto, saw its companion album spend nine nonconsecutive weeks on top (Jan. 15-March 19, 2022).

Notably, as KPop Demon Hunters climbs to No. 1 in its 12th week on the chart, it completes the longest wait to reach No. 1 since Toby Keith’s 2008 release 35 Biggest Hits re-entered the chart at No. 1 on the Feb. 17, 2024-dated list, following his death that Feb. 5. The last album with a longer continuous climb to No. 1 than KPop Demon Hunters was The Kid LAROI’s F*ck Love, which jumped 26-1 in its 53rd consecutive chart week, on the Aug. 7, 2021, list. The latter vaulted to No. 1 following two reissues during that tracking week.

Meawhile, the last soundtrack to take a longer journey to No. 1 was O Brother, Where Art Thou?, which rose 2-1 in its 63rd continuous week on the chart, on the March 23, 2002-dated list. Its ascent to the top was aided by its Grammy Award win for album of the year at the 44th annual ceremony that Feb. 27.

Plus, KPop Demon Hunters spent seven nonconsecutive weeks at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 before reaching No. 1. That’s the longest wait an album endured in the runner-up spot before leading the Billboard 200 in nearly a half-century: In October-November 1977, Linda Ronstadt’s Simple Dreams logged nine weeks at No. 2 before topping the chart at last. (Stray Cats’ Built for Speed holds the record for the most weeks peaking at No. 2: 15 in 1982-83.)

Also in the top 10 of the latest Billboard 200: Justin Bieber’s SWAG vaults 17-4 following its deluxe expansion with 23 additional tracks, and sombr’s I Barely Know Her reaches the top 10 for the first time, rising 12-10 in its third week, following the artist’s performance on the MTV Video Music Awards (Sept. 7).

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new Sept. 20, 2025-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard‘s website on Sept. 16. For all chart news, follow @billboard and @billboardcharts on both X, formerly known as Twitter, and Instagram.

Of KPop Demon Hunters’ 128,000 equivalent album units earned in the latest tracking week, SEA units comprise 103,000 (up less than 1%, equaling 141.08 million on-demand official streams of the set’s tracks — it rises 2-1 on Top Streaming Albums for its first week on top), album sales comprise 23,000 (up 56%; it’s pushed down 3-4 on Top Album Sales) and TEA units comprise 2,000 (down 7%).

In the tracking week, the soundtrack got a boost from its deluxe reissue as a digital download and streaming album on Sept. 5 with 23 additional tracks. The additional cuts are mostly sing-along, instrumental and a cappella versions of the album’s hit songs. The album’s sales gain was aided by the wide release of its standard 12-track CD to brick-and-mortar retailers. It is available in five CD variants, each containing a poster and randomized photocard. A vinyl release for the project is expected Oct. 17.

KPop Demon Hunters premiered on June 20 in a limited theatrical release in the U.S. (in three movie theaters), and on Netflix, alongside its soundtrack. The film returned to theaters, this time nationwide, for a limited engagement on Aug. 23-24 as a sing-along version. The same sing-along version hit Netflix on Aug. 25.

In the tracking week ending Sept. 7, the animated film was No. 2 in its 12th week on Netflix’s Top 10 Movies in United States chart, with four of those weeks at No. 1. The movie now stands as the most popular original Netflix film to date.

KPop Demon Hunters is the seventh animated film soundtrack to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200, since the list began publishing on a regular weekly basis in March 1956. It follows Encanto (nine weeks at No. 1, 2022), Frozen II (one week, 2019), Frozen (13, 2014), Jack Johnson’s Curious George (one, 2006), Pocahontas (one, 1995) and The Lion King (10, 1994-95).

KPop Demon Hunters ends a dry spell for soundtracks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It’s been three years and six months since Encanto spent its ninth and final week atop the list (dated March 19, 2022). That’s the longest the chart has gone without a soundtrack at No. 1 since the three-year and nearly eight-month gap between the second and final week at No. 1 for Armageddon (July 25, 1998) and the first of two weeks at No. 1 for O Brother, Where Art Thou? (March 23, 2002).

Back on the latest Billboard 200, Sabrina Carpenter’s Man’s Best Friend falls to No. 2 with 119,000 equivalent album units earned (down 68%) after debuting at No. 1 a week ago. Morgan Wallen’s chart-topping I’m the Problem is a non-mover at No. 3 with 98,000 (down 6%).

Justin Bieber’s SWAG surges 17-4 with 80,000 equivalent album units (up 223%) after it was surprise reissued in a deluxe edition as a digital download and streaming album on Sept. 5 with 23 additional tracks. The deluxe edition is dubbed SWAG II and contains the original SWAG album’s 21 tracks, along with an additional 23 bonus tracks. The original SWAG album was also a surprise affair, arriving on July 11 with little notice; it debuted at its No. 2 best. All versions of SWAG are combined for tracking and charting purposes.

SWAG also gets an assist from the release of the standard 21-track album’s release on CD and via two deluxe CD boxed sets (each containing a branded T-shirt and a copy of the standard SWAG album).

Alex Warren’s You’ll Be Alright, Kid is a non-mover at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 with 38,000 equivalent album units earned (up less than 1%). SZA’s chart-topping SOS climbs 9-6 (just over 33,000, down 2%), Wallen’s former leader One Thing at a Time dips 6-7 (33,000, down 6%), Stray Kids’ chart-topping KARMA falls 4-8 (32,000, down 49%), and Gunna’s The Last Wun falls 8-9 (31,000, down 10%).

Closing out the top 10 is sombr’s debut studio album I Barely Know Her, which rises 12-10 in its third week on the chart — and its first week in the top 10. The set earned 29,000 equivalent album units in the latest tracking week (up 5%). The rise comes after sombr performed a medley of the album’s “Back to Friends” and “12 to 12” on the MTV Video Music Awards broadcast on CBS on Sept. 7.
