Twiggy’s husband Leigh Lawson believes the secret to their happy marriage is meeting later in life.

Twiggy’s husband Leigh Lawson shares secrets to happy marriage

Twiggy, 75, and Leigh, 83, have been married for 42 years and Leigh believes that both having been married before and him being in his forties when they met are the keys to their long-lasting union.

He told the Daily Mail newspaper: “I think luck plays a big part. I wonder if we would have lasted as long if we’d met when we were younger.

“I was in my 40s when we met so I must have done something right to get a second chance. I also think there’s more respect and you’re much more prepared to make a compromise when you’re a bit older as well.

“You’re more prepared to make compliments and … we make each other laugh a lot.

“’I found my wife really attractive and very desirable when I met her. You wouldn’t want to marry someone that you didn’t fancy!

‘But when I first met her. I just thought what a really nice lady. And I still feel that way. She’s just a really nice person and kind.

‘And I do truly see now, after 40 years of marriage, how important it was that you get on as friends and are with somebody that you enjoy being with.”

Leight also believes refusing to retire has helped him and his supermodel wife remain happy together.

He said: “I think it’s quite important to keep busy, I think that helps in your relationships. We get on really well and we spend almost all of our time together.

“We enjoy each other’s company and work on projects together. We’ve just had a wonderful success with the musical based on Twiggy’s life, Close-Up.

“I can’t see her retiring’, he shared. She’s a ball of energy. In January she was offered the cover of Vogue twice – for Vogue Portugal and Vogue Greece.

“I’m just so proud of her. She’s 75 and still getting booked by Vogue and she’s just come back from doing Germany’s Next Top Model.

“The last 42 years of marriage have gone so quickly. When you’re happy, time goes quickly.”

Gorillaz fans, get ready to climb The Mountain.

Damon Albarn and co. are preparing to release a new album, The Mountain, on March 20th, 2026 (pre-order here). The album announcement comes with lead single, “The Happy Dictator,” featuring Sparks. Listen to it below.

The Mountain will be Gorillaz’s ninth studio effort, and their first on the band’s very own new record label, KONG. The 15-track LP boasts a vast array of guest stars, including Black Thought of The Roots, Anoushka Shankar, IDLES, Johnny Marr, Jalen Ngonda, Asha Puthli, Omar Souleyman, Yasiin Bey, Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash, and Paul Simonon of The Clash, among them.

The album will also feature posthumous contributions from the likes of  Bobby Womack, Dave Jolicoeur (aka Trugoy the Dove of De La Soul), Proof, Dennis Hopper, Mark E Smith of The Fall, and Tony Allen.

Produced by Gorillaz, James Ford, Samuel Egglenton and Remi Kabaka Jr., plus Bizarrap, The Mountain was recorded around the world, with Damon Albarn and company hitting studios in various locations in India, including Mumbai, New Delhi, Rajasthan and Varanasi, as well as London, Ashgabat, Damascus, Los Angeles, Miami and New York. The international feel is further emphasized with the new songs featuring artists performing in five languages: Arabic, English, Hindi, Spanish and Yoruba.

As always, the album’s distinctive artwork was created by Jamie Hewlett, whose hand-drawn images of band members Murdoc, Noodle, Russel and 2D working on the new music in India will be available both as a book and as a collection of 12×12 prints.

According to a press release, the animated musical icons are ensconced in Mumbai on fake passports after turning their backs on pop stardom, and now “immersed in the rhythms of mystical music-making, as they navigate the mountainous terrain of this thing called life.”

“As space dust we are here forever and that’s a mighty long time,” drummer Russel Hobbs explained in a press statement. “This is a musical meditation infused with light. A journey of the soul, with beats…”

The group will celebrate the new release with an arena tour of the UK and Ireland, which kicks off on March 21st, 2026, in Manchester, England, with dates in Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Cardiff, Nottingham, Liverpool, Belfast and Dublin; plus a one-off headline show at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday June 20, 2026, with support from Sparks and Trueno. Gorillaz recently debuted The Mountain with a special “mystery show” featuring most of the album’s cavalcade of guests on the final night of their four-show residency at London’s Copper Box Arena. The band has uploaded a video of the first night of the residency, which was a full performance of their 2001 debut album.

The four limited-capacity live shows at the Copper Box Arena in London marked Gorillaz’ 25th anniversary. The first show saw them perform their self-titled debut in full, playing ‘Double Bass’ and ‘Ghost Train’ live for the first time ever. Last week, they shared an official video of the full gig.

The third show – where they played ‘Plastic Beach’ in its entirety – also saw Gorillaz surprise audiences with ‘The Fall’ tracks ‘Phoner To Arizona’ and ‘California And The Slipping Of The Sun’ live for the first time ever during the encore.

The mini residency came as part of the band’s ‘House Of Kong’ exhibition at the Copper Box. It ran from August 8 until September 3, and offered fans a look behind the curtain of the virtual band’s headquarters, and provided insights into the journey they have had since sharing their 2000 debut single ‘Tomorrow Comes Today’, up until the present day.

The band are now set to relaunch Kong Studios as an online video game.

bitchy | The British media is not happy about Prince Harry’s $1.5 million charity donation

by jummy84 September 11, 2025
written by jummy84

Yesterday, Prince Harry visited the Community Recording Studio in Nottingham, where he spent time with many youths, all of whom were thrilled to meet him. There were at least a hundred people waiting outside CRS too, and Harry did a nice little walkabout. The photos are spectacular. I can’t help but think back to all of the times the left-behinds arrive to events with absolutely zero people behind the police barricades.

Harry also announced his $1.5 million donation to Children In Need, a charity doing great work in Britain. Let me tell you something… none of this has gone down well with royalists or the left-behind Windsors. The British press is mad about it too, because they’ve been trying to convince their readership that Harry is broke, that he can’t afford the mortgage on his Montecito home, that eventually he’ll come crawling back to the UK because he can’t afford to live without his father’s nonexistent largesse. They’re even crying about how “real royals” don’t donate their own money to charities. Weird flex but okay. By the way, Harry emphasized that his donation IS his own money, it’s not coming from the foundation side of Archewell.

The Duke of Sussex has announced a personal donation of £1.1 million to tackle youth violence in Nottingham, saying that knife crime was “one of the most urgent issues facing this country”.

Despite relocating to California more than five years ago, he gave a speech in Nottingham in which he said he would “continue to stand with you” and praised the city’s “banging” jerk chicken.

A spokesman for Prince Harry said that the money, donated to BBC Children in Need, had come from the duke’s own funds rather than Archewell, his media organisation.

A contribution of £300,000 from BBC Children in Need will be added to the donation to help young people impacted by violence. In a speech after touring the Community Recording Studio (CRS) in the St Ann’s area of the city, Harry said: “I’ll continue to stand with you. Nottingham has my respect — it always has — my commitment and a permanent place in my heart.”

His visit appears to have been well received by the public. When he arrived in a black Range Rover, a crowd of about 100 people, including a group of young children, had gathered to cheer his arrival. One well-wisher shouted: “Harry, you brought the sunshine with you.”

Among those waiting outside was Margaret Wilson, 66, who was wearing a purple T-shirt bearing the slogan: “Team Harry. Lifetime Member. Man. Myth. Legend”. She said: “I was a fan of his mother and I like what he’s doing. He’s doing a lot for charity and he’s not even on the payroll. He doesn’t have to do this; he’s choosing to do this.”

[From The Times]

“Despite relocating to California more than five years ago” combined with “he’s not even on the payroll. He doesn’t have to do this; he’s choosing to do this.” *chef’s kiss* I love the idea that when one moves to California, you can no longer visit the UK or give speeches in Nottingham or donate to charity. Margaret Wilson has it right – Team Harry. People Mag also had a nice interview with some of the coordinators and staffers at CRS, all of whom adore Harry – go here to read.

You guys, Harry’s donation broke royal protocol.

Prince Harry has made a personal donation of £1.1m to a UK children’s charity. Harry said he hoped it would help “changemakers in the city continue their mission to create safe spaces”, but critics are calling it a charm offensive.

Do you think this donation is genuine?… pic.twitter.com/VXiXuDo8c2

Mark Volman, the Turtles Co-Founder and ‘Happy Together’ Singer, Dead

by jummy84 September 6, 2025
written by jummy84

Mark Volman, the singer and co-founder of the Sixties pop-rock group the Turtles, best known for their 1967 hit “Happy Together,” died Friday, Sept. 5. He was 78.

Reps for Volman confirmed his death to Rolling Stone, saying he died in Nashville after a “brief, unexpected illness.” Volman was also battling Lewy body dementia, which he was diagnosed with in 2020. However, he continued to tour and did not publicly reveal his diagnosis until 2023.

For much of his career, Volman worked closely with his friend Howard Kaylan, another co-founder of the Turtles and the band’s lead vocalist. After the Turtles disbanded, Volman and Kaylan linked up with Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, where they began to perform under the name Flo and Eddie. (Volman was “Flo,” which was short for “The Phlorescent Leech.”)

Along with their work with Zappa, Flo and Eddie released numerous albums of their own and scored a handful of films and TV shows. They also provided backing vocals for some of the biggest artists of the Seventies and Eighties, including John Lennon and Yoko Ono, T.Rex, Alice Cooper, Bruce Springsteen, Blondie, Stephen Stills, David Cassidy, Ray Manzarek, and Roger McGuinn.

Volman was born April 19, 1947, in Los Angeles and began playing music as a teenager. In junior high (per an old band bio), he took up the clarinet and happened to take lessons with the same teacher who was teaching Kaylan the same instrument. It wasn’t until high school, however, that the pair would meet in an a cappella group (both sang tenor).

Volman, Kaylan, and several friends — guitarist Al Nichol, drummer Don Murray, and bassist Chuck Portz — played in a band called the Crossfires during high school before forming the Turtles after graduation. (Jim Tucker, another guitarist, rounded out the band’s original lineup.) The Turtles cut their teeth playing clubs and college parties around Southern California before embarking on lengthier tours. They released their first recordings in 1965, scoring a Top 10 hit with their debut single, a rendition of Bob Dylan’s “It Ain’t Me Babe.”

Editor’s picks

After releasing two albums (1965’s It Ain’t Me, Babe and 1966’s You Baby), the Turtles scored their signature hit with “Happy Together” — a peppy blast of lovestruck flower-power pop defined by its rousing refrain of ba-ba-baaaahh’s. The song enjoyed a three-week stand at Number One on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1967 and has remained one of the defining songs of the era.

While “Happy Together” anchored the Turtles’ 1967 album of the same name, it wasn’t their only hit. The duo that penned the title track — Alan Gordon and Garry Bonner — also wrote “She’d Rather Be With Me,” which peaked at Number Three on the Hot 100. The pair would write some of the Turtles’ other big hits in the coming years, too, including “She’s My Girl” and “You Know What I Mean.”

In a 2023 interview with Goldmine, Volman said that “Happy Together” “held up so well that it became the record of our career.” But, he continued, “musically I think ‘She’s My Girl,’ ‘You Know What I Mean,’ ‘Me About You,’ ‘The Story of Rock & Roll,’ and a few others are even better records. But every group hopes to have a ‘Happy Together’ and that makes us very fortunate.”

The Turtles would release two more albums — 1968’s The Turtles Present the Battle of the Bands and 1969’s Turtle Soup — before disbanding in 1970. Volman, Kaylan, and Jim Pons (who’d become the Turtles’ bassist in 1967) went on to join Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, with whom they played regularly over the next several decades. (As Flo and Eddie, they sang a wonkier version of “Happy Together” on Zappa’s live album, Fillmore East – June 1971.)

Related Content

“Frank opened the door for us to explore and be involved with a lot of really grown up music,” Volman told the Recording Academy. “I say ‘grown up’ because it had guitar changes and singing parts that we created for Frank. We couldn’t create those for any other place.” He added that Zappa “really turned us loose. He turned us loose to sing what we could bring to the different songs.”

Over the next few decades, Volman and Kaylan were almost always busy. On top of their work with Zappa, they became in-demand session vocalists, and wrote and recorded several Flo and Eddie albums of their own (the first, The Phlorescent Leech & Eddie, arrived in 1972). In the Eighties, they started composing music more regularly for film and TV, doing both children’s projects like The Care Bears TV series and the Zucker-Abrams-Zucker spoof comedy Top Secret!

While he stayed busy as a musician into the Nineties, Volman also went back to college and got his bachelor’s degree at Loyola Marymount University. He went on to earn a Master’s degree and eventually started teaching college-level music business courses, enjoying a lengthy stint at Belmont University in Nashville (which is famous for its music and music business programs).

Volman and Kaylan were also part of several major music copyright cases. In 1991, they sued De La Soul over a sample of the Turtles’ “You Showed Me” in “Transmitting Live From Mars.” The case was settled out of court, but many in the hip-hop world criticized the outcome, saying it set a dangerous precedent that could bankrupt artists with licensing and/or legal fees.

Then, in 2013 they filed a class action lawsuit against SiriusXM, accusing the satellite radio company of broadcasting songs recorded before 1972 without compensating labels or artists. (New sound recordings didn’t receive federal copyright protection until 1972, but the law wasn’t clear on what protections should be given to pre-72 recordings.)

Trending Stories

The case led to a groundswell of similar suits brought by major and independent labels. The courts repeatedly ruled in favor of the labels, and eventually Sirius began to settle the suits, including a $99 million settlement with the Turtles in 2016. The case helped pave the way for the CLASSICS (Compensating Legacy Artists for their Songs, Service, and Important Contributions to Society) Act, a component of the 2019 Music Modernization Act, that finally extends federal copyright protections to pre-1972 recordings.

In 2015, Volman and Kaylan celebrated their 50th anniversary together with a massive North American tour. While Kaylan retired from the road in 2018 because of health issues, Volman continued to perform regularly. In 2023, he published his memoir, Happy Forever: My Musical Adventures With The Turtles, Frank Zappa, T. Rex, Flo & Eddie, and More.

Happy Birthday Pawan Kalyan; The Rise and Rise of ‘Powerstar’

by jummy84 September 2, 2025
written by jummy84

Pawan Kalyan celebrates his birthday today (Tuesday). And for his fans, it’s like a festival. Affectionately called ‘Powerstar’ and ‘PSKP’ by his fans, Pawan is widely considered one of the most successful actors in Telugu cinema. Apart from the fanbase, his family members, industry colleagues and well-wishers have sent in their greetings. However, Pawan never celebrates birthdays; he rather prefers to stay indoors and work.

Powerstar of Tollywood

Pawan, who has acted in 30 films, has enthralled millions of Telugu cinema fans in a career spanning almost three decades. After debuting with Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi, Pawan starred in notable films in the late ‘90s, like Gokulamlo Seeta and Suswagatham. His 1998 romantic drama, Tholi Prema, was Pawan’s breakthrough film. He followed it up with blockbuster films like Thammudu and Badri and started creating his own fan base — slowly coming out of his brother and megastar Chiranjeevi’s shadow. Pawan Kalyan’s 2001 film Khushi was a rage, and an all-time industry hit in Telugu cinema. The youthful drama, directed by SJ Suryah, catapulted Pawan to superstardom. The sign was clear: a superstar was in the making. He became a much-sought-after Telugu actor over the turn of the century.

One of the highest-paid actors

Apart from starring in it, Pawan Kalyan made his directorial debut with Johnny (2003). Although the film was panned by the audiences, the actor received bouquets for the film’s technical finesse. Much like his fellow contemporaries, Pawan gradually transformed into an action hero with films like Gudumba Shankar, Balu, Bangaram, Annavaram, Jalsa and Puli. Despite facing a few setbacks and flops, Pawan made a roaring comeback with 2012 action entertainer Gabbar Singh, and 2013 family drama Attarintiki Daredi. Both the films were blockbusters and have scripted history with stunning collections. Pawan reinforced his position as Tollywood’s top box office draw, and a superstar, known for having fans across all age groups. He is among the highest-paid actors in the Indian film industry and commands a fan following second to none.

Deputy Chief Minister of AP

After a spectacular stint in cinema, Pawan took the political plunge and floated his own political outfit JanaSena Party in 2014. But he did not contest in the Andhra Pradesh state elections. Instead, the actor-politician publicly endorsed the Telugu Desam Party which came into power. Pawan’s party single-handedly contested the 2019 elections but was unsuccessful. And in 2024, he played a key role in forging an alliance between three political parties JSP, TDP and BJP. The alliance swept to power in a landslide victory and Pawan’s party created history by winning each of the seats it contested — 21 MLA seats and 2 MP seats in the state.

Soon after the results, Prime Minister Narendra Modi described, “Ye Pawan Nahi Aandhi Hai” (He is not a breeze; he is a storm) — the slogan became very popular. And as part of the coalition government, Pawan Kalyan rose to deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh state. But given his current packed political and administrative assignments, the actor has not taken up any new films.

It has been more than a decade since Greek God of the entertainment industry Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan divorced. Though both have moved on with their love partners in their lives, they are raising their sons, Hrehaan and Hridaan, together and there is a good bonding between the two. Recently, Sussanne’s brother, actor Zayed Khan talked about their relationship in an interview.

Zayed Khan

Zayed said that he does not expect everyone to understand their relationship. He told that he has known Hrithik since he was 12 years old. He said that he knew him even before his sister Sussanne. Talking about their love and then divorce, he said, ‘My family has always stood for love, has always stood for the fact that whatever our daughter has chosen should be right.’

Zayed Khan

He further said in this conversation that the whole world knows what happened and where we are now. The actor said, ‘I don’t expect everyone to understand. She is the master of her own decision. I am even happier that she has found love again. We are happy and that is all that matters to us.’ Hrithik may not be Zayed’s brother-in-law today, but he says that years ago he chose Shah Rukh Khan on Karan Johar’s show and he regrets it.

Zayed Khan

He said, ‘I remember once I was on ‘Koffee with Karan’ and he asked me Hrithik or Shah Rukh. When you are young you don’t know, and I said Shah Rukh at that time. The reason was that I was working with him then. Those were the moments when I wanted to keep quiet. I remember when I came back home, my sister looked at me like… hmm. She was married at that time. Hrithik is a mature person, he never interrupted me.’
