Body Found in d4vd’s Impounded Car Identified as 15-Year-Old Girl

The ongoing saga of the body found in an impounded Tesla belonging to alt-pop singer d4vd earlier this month continues to unfold. According to NBC News Los Angeles, the body has been identified as a 15-year-old girl named Celeste Rivas, who was reported as missing last year in Riverside County.

Rivas was identified through forensics, and the medical examiner is still working to determine the cause of death. She was also identified through a “Shhh…” tattoo on her right index finger. According to TMZ, d4vd has a matching finger tattoo.

Rivas’ body was first discovered on September 8th at a Hollywood tow yard after workers reported a strong odor coming from the car, which is registered in Hempstead, Texas, to d4vd (real name David Anthony Burke). She was last seen on April 5th, 2024, in the western Riverside County community, approximately 50 miles east of Los Angeles.

“They need you on these jobs.” Vertical and Voltage Pictures have unveiled an official trailer for an action thriller movie titled Stolen Girl, arriving to watch later this month. Another one of these super obviously, poorly shot, entirely cliche action movies being dumped VOD soon. Though someone will inevitably say it’s a good movie anyway. To top it off, it’s directed by a TV director who has barely ever done any action or any real feature films before. Is he the only they could get to make this junk? Supposedly based on a true story, an American woman spends more than ten years tracking down her daughter who was abducted and taken to the Middle East by the child’s father. Their big mission takes them to Beirut, where they’re pulled into a treacherous web of international espionage, betrayal, and corruption. Stolen Girl stars Kate Beckinsale, Scott Eastwood, Jordan Duvigneau, Matt Craven, & Arvin Kananian. This looks as terrible as any movie can – and it looks like blatant propaganda to always keep people afraid of “others”. Avoid at all costs.

LOS ANGELES — It’s impossible to hear King Princess groan “I’m a loser” on their ambitious third album and not think of Beck singing the same line in his canonical slacker anthem released more than three decades ago.

Although “Alone Again” is more of an angsty breakup song than an ode to sloth, the evocation of Beck’s “Loser” is fitting for the 26-year-old born Mikaela Straus. In both Straus’ guitar-driven pop music and her public persona, the singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist exemplifies an offhanded irreverence that artists who aren’t men rarely afford.

Unlike their previous album, “Hold On Baby,” which veered into a solemnity so full of ballads that it sometimes felt in conflict with Straus’ playfulness and snark, “Girl Violence” is a return to form.

“I’m sorry my love / You’re insane,” she sneers on the album’s ambient opening title track.

In “Jaime,” Straus seeks to play coy and appear unflappable toward the object of her desire. That concerted effort eventually belies a desperation.

“You’re just a fly in my glass,” Straus sings coolly at the beginning of the track. But by the end, they surrender — accompanied by a cacophony of shoegaze-y synths, guitars, percussion and a Mellotron. “I’ve been secretly wishing you’d date me / Despite all the times you were wack / If you told me I’m cool, I’d collapse.”

That sonic and lyrical contrast exists throughout “Girl Violence.” Scoffs mask tears. Tenderness glistens beneath declarations of violence. “You prep my despair / You know I like it,” she croons on “Girls,” a torch song about self-destructive queer lust. Sultry instrumentation and doo-wop-esque background vocals evoke both melancholic longing and excitement.

Even as Straus sings about heartbreak and insecurity, the album remains mostly tonally upbeat. “Everybody wants me / Just ask your man, babe,” she taunts on “Cry Cry Cry” over punchy drums and her warm electric guitar.

However, a couple songs struggle to find their place on this record. “Origin Story” and “Say What You Will” come to mind. Those moments would have fit better on Straus’ mostly moody, midtempo first album.

By large, that Straus is a bona fide rock star is more apparent when she plays live than on their restrained recorded pop songs. But she occasionally shows off her virtuosic skill on her records, like with the crunchy guitar solo at the end of the otherwise laid back “I Feel Pretty.”

That oscillation — between gritty and pretty — is a defining theme of “Girl Violence.”

Three and a half stars out of five.

“You are all my favorites.” Netflix has revealed the official trailer for an indie film from Taiwan titled Left-Handed Girl, made by filmmaker Shih-Ching Tsou as her second feature film and first time directing solo. She has been working with director Sean Baker for years previously, co-directing Take Out with him and producing many of his other films. Now she’s off creating her own projects and this is her first major breakout feature. It premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival to many great reviews this year, and next plays at TIFF and Vancouver and London this fall before it hits theaters in November. A single mother and her two daughters relocate to Taipei, Taiwan to open a night market stall, each navigating the challenges of adapting to their new environment while striving to maintain family unity. The focus is on the youngest daughter who is left handed, which they think is an omen, but she is actually just the cutest and coolest girl there is. Starring Shih-Yuan Ma, Janel Tsai, Nina Ye, and Teng-Hui Huang. I saw this in Cannes and it’s really, really charming and upbeat and vibrant film. Highly recommend it. All of the cinematography is so vivid & flashy, but this vibe pulls viewers right into the experience of living in this bustling city of Taipei.
