BAFTA Breakthrough Ellis Howard on ‘What It Feels Like for a Girl’

by jummy84 November 25, 2025

A queer teen grappling with their gender identity is at the center of What It Feels Like for a Girl, the BBC drama telling a party- and drug-fueled trans coming-of-age story based on the memoir of journalist Paris Lees. The show’s breakout star is Ellis Howard, a rising talent from Liverpool.

For those who don’t recognize the accent: that is the same city that Adolescence and A Thousand Blows star Stephen Graham is from, and the city that BBC drama crime epic This City Is Ours, starring Sean Bean, is set in.

Writer and actor Howard has turned heads with his performance in What It Feels Like for a Girl, and now Howard is on the U.K. 2025 BAFTA Breakthrough list of rising talent, supported by Netflix, which was unveiled on Tuesday.

Born and raised in Liverpool, actor and writer Ellis Howard trained at The Guildhall School and has since starred in major productions across stage and screen, including the 2022 BBC horror series Red Rose and his West End debut as Dill in Aaron Sorkin’s To Kill a Mockingbird.

What It Feels Like for a Girl has made him more widely recognized. The show, produced by Hera Pictures and directed by Brian Welsh, co-stars Hannah Walters and Laura Haddock.

THR talked to Howard about making a splash, making the BAFTA Breakthrough list, and what’s next.

How exciting is it for you to be part of the newest BAFTA Breakthrough group?

So exciting! I feel BAFTA is such an incredible institution at the very heart of our culture. And to be recognized and to be supported by them is just such an honor, and it’s so gratifying. I feel so proud of What It Feels Like for a Girl, my breakthrough project. It was a tiny BBC Three show. And now that it is getting the stamp of approval from BAFTA, I’m like, “God, this feels mad.”

You’re playing Byron, who is multi-dimensional and goes on an emotional ride. How did you get into that character?

It was a ride, also because those parts are often reserved for people who are incredibly famous. And so I thought, “Whoa, I get to this point in my career, and I go on this odyssey,” which is written by Paris Lees. And I felt this tremendous responsibility, but also this opportunity, to come at this role with all of my trauma and triumph and mess.

I think if there was ever a role to let yourself be uninhibited and go at it with as much pomp and panache as possible, [this is it]. The day I got it, I was terrified. Two seconds later, I was like: “This is it! This is a journey.” But it’s, honestly, a journey that I’ve relished, and it has also got me so, so excited for what is next. It has invigorated my sensibility and my appetite to take risks and to do parts that scare me.

Do you have any plans or hopes for the BAFTA Breakthrough program?

Yes, I want to really just meet like-minded creatives. What was so incredible about What It Feels Like for a Girl was that this was someone’s passion project. Paris Lees is an auteur. She has this unrelenting and working-class voice in the arts, which feels so rarefied. And I want to meet more exciting writers and filmmakers.

The second part is that, I hope, with the support from BAFTA, I now get access to doors that would have otherwise not been opened, and maybe more people will watch What It Feels Like for a Girl. I’m a working-class boy from Liverpool, and so I need all of the accreditation and help that I can get for people to take me and my work and my voice seriously, whether that be as a writer or as an actor. And so I’m really just excited to get this process started.

Tell me a bit about the themes of What It Feels Like for a Girl and themes that you want to explore more in your career…

What What It Feels Like for a Girl did so incredibly well was look at both queerness and class and the intersection of those two things. Queerness and class are incredibly important to me.

But even though I am a working-class gay lad, I also want the opportunity to transform. I want to be in those period pieces. I want to know what it feels like to run a kingdom. It would also be totally exciting to take some of those middle-class parts. What does the version of me look like in a suit? Some of my favorite shows, like Industry and Succession, are about the hot breath of ambition on your neck, and they have incredibly smart players. Those characters are complex and ruthless, and I’m like, God, I really want to get my teeth into parts like that.

Anything else you’d like to share?

Yes. What It Feels Like for a Girl does not have U.S. distribution. We’ve got to get it out in the U.S. We need this anarchic, punk queer show over in the States just to ruffle some feathers, and to give them a slice of British life.

‘Elated’: Rajkummar Rao, Patralekhaa Welcome A Baby Girl

by jummy84 November 15, 2025
written by jummy84

Bollywood actors Rajkummar Rao and Patralekhaa are over the moon: the couple has been blessed with a baby girl, a momentous arrival that coincides beautifully with their fourth wedding anniversary on November 15, 2025. Their emotional announcement, filled with gratitude and love, marks the beginning of a new chapter in their lives — one that fans and friends are celebrating wholeheartedly.

The couple — who publicly shared their pregnancy in July 2025 with an Instagram post featuring a baby cradle and the simple caption “Elated” — confirmed the arrival through heartfelt messages and expressions of awe. The news was received with an outpouring of love from their circle in the film industry, family, and well-wishers.

Rajkummar and Patralekhaa’s journey into parenthood carries added emotional weight, not just for the timing but for the path that brought them here. They began dating over a decade ago and were married in November 2021. Their love story — rooted in shared values, creative collaboration, and a quiet kind of companionship — is one of Bollywood’s more grounded and enduring.

Back when they first announced their pregnancy, Rajkummar was visibly moved by the idea of becoming a father. He told the media that he and his wife felt the news was still sinking in: “We’re absolutely thrilled … it’s a beautiful feeling.” He and Patralekhaa have often described their relationship as one of slow growth and deep understanding — making this personal milestone all the more meaningful.

Patralekhaa, for her part, has spoken about the calm and joy of this new phase. In earlier interviews, she reflected on their long journey — from co-actors to partners to soon-to-be parents — with genuine warmth and humility. Their shared announcement post, featuring a delicate cradle motif, resonated because it was simple, sincere and deeply personal.

For Rajkummar, whose on-screen performances often tackle intense themes, this new role feels like a real-life character arc. He once joked that he’s going to be a “great father,” acknowledging the responsibility that comes with parenthood while also embracing the joy and transformation it brings.

Beyond the emotional gravity, this moment signals something special in celebrity life — a reminder that success at work is sweetest when matched by personal fulfilment. Rajkummar and Patralekhaa, both respected for their craft, are now writing a story beyond roles, reels and press events. Their announcement feels less like a publicity moment and more like a deeply intimate life event shared on very public terms.

The arrival of their daughter is also resonating with fans who have watched them evolve as a couple. Their long-standing relationship — marked by mutual respect, honesty and a refusal to rush major decisions — has always felt authentic in an industry known for glamorous façades. Their pregnancy journey was celebrated not with extravagant spectacle but with calm, shared joy.

As the couple settles into parenthood, one can sense how meaningful this phase will be for them. They have already spoken about not wanting to shield their child from art, but about welcoming their child into a world where creativity and honesty matter. Their first public statement suggests they are as excited for sleepless nights, baby giggles and quiet family moments as they are for the future.

Their baby girl enters a home built on more than just fame — it is built on years of being seen for who they are, not just for what they do. For Rajkummar and Patralekhaa, this newcomer is not just a blessing; she is a continuation of their shared journey, a living symbol of love, commitment and the belief that the most important stories they will ever tell are the ones unfolding at home.

In the whirlwind of glitz, glamour and constant media cycles, this news is a calm anchor. It’s a reminder that behind the bright lights and movie premieres, the most life-changing moments happen in quiet spaces, between two people who have grown together over time. As they embrace parenthood, Rajkummar and Patralekhaa are doing it with the same grace and depth that fans have loved them for — and now, with one more heartbeat at their side.

When Amitabh Bachchan Gracefully Accepted Decline In His Stardom After A Young Girl Slapped A Guy & Said “Woh Nahin… Govinda Ka Autograph Lo”

Amitabh Bachchan Accepted His Stardom Gracefully Shifting To Younger Stars As A Fan Slapped A Boy For Taking Big B’s Autograph & Wanted Govinda’s Sign (Picture Credit: Wikipedia)

Stardom has a definite era. For some stars, it lasts a few years, while for others, it lasts decades. However, superstars have a legacy that spans several decades, and one such superstar is Amitabh Bachchan. He shot to fame overnight as the Angry Young Man and ruled the celluloid for decades. But then saw a decline only to rise like a phoenix with Mohabbatein.

However, when Big B was witnessing his decline as a superstar, he saw another superstar rising, and it was none other than Govinda. The two stars were shooting for Hum when a certain incident happened, speaking volumes about the stardom the Raja Babu actor had attained amongst fans.

In an interview, Amitabh Bachchan recalled an incident when he saw his decline and Govinda’s rise simultaneously, just with the reactions of fans who gaga over the Hero No.1 star. Scroll down to read what happened.

In an interview with Movie Magazine, Big B narrated the incident, which might seem funny but would not have been a good sight for any star. He said, “I was shooting with Govinda for Hum when a group of young kids came up to me, and one of the boys asked for an autograph. Govinda was standing next to me. There was a young, cute girl who gave him a slap and said, ‘Woh nahin, yeh. Govinda ka autograph lo‘ (Not him. Take Govinda’s autograph).”

However, the Shehenshaah gracefully accepted his decline and his stardom getting blurry as he said, “People will want to watch the younger lot.” “I made mistakes and kept trying to rectify them in film after film. But there’s no denying that it is the turn of the younger boys now because today’s audiences are between 18 and 30.”

Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda starred together in Hum and then later reunited for Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. While Bachchan saw a decline in his stardom in the 90s, Chi Chi saw a rise with David Dhawan films, especially his number 1 series. Big B later rose to fame in his second innings with Mohabbatein.

Sobhita Dhulipala Opens Up About ‘Bad Girl’: 'I Teared Up… Felt Truly Seen For First Time'
Bollywood

Sobhita Dhulipala Opens Up About ‘Bad Girl’: ‘I Teared Up… Felt Truly Seen For First Time’

by jummy84 November 12, 2025
written by jummy84

In a quiet yet compelling post-watch reflection, actress Sobhita Dhulipala revealed how the Tamil coming-of-age drama Bad Girl moved her—to the point of tearing up—and described the experience as one of being genuinely “seen”. Her words cut through the usual promo chatter and point to something deeper happening in how audiences and performers engage with cinematic narratives.

On 11 November 2025, Sobhita took to her Instagram Stories, sharing the film poster of Bad Girl and writing, “Bad Girl had me smirking AND tearing up. I feel seen. Beheld. (heart emoji) A film that ripens by the minute. Heavily recommend to everyone, especially the girls. This one’s for us, y’all. Shout out to @varsha.bharath3 and @anjalisivaraman you guys are simply beyond (confetti emoji). Watch it on Jio Hotstar.”

Bad Girl, the debut directorial by Varsha Bharath and starring Anjali Sivaraman, had already made headlines before its release—tackling female adolescence and identity with a blunt edge, and stirring controversy for its bold depiction of a Brahmin girl’s personal life. In choosing her words, Sobhita Dhulipala emphasised the film’s resonance: it wasn’t only her viewing experience; it felt like someone finally articulated a part of her.

Why Sobhita Dhulipala’s reaction matters

Sobhita Dhulipala’s reaction matters for several reasons. First, it flips the promotional script. Typically actors share measured blurbs. Here, her admission of vulnerability—“I teared up and felt seen”—speaks to a lived identification with the film’s themes. It opens a window into how a cinema that centres female experience can break through habitual male-centred narratives.

Second, the endorsement taps into female viewership in a deliberate way. Sobhita explicitly called the film “for us, y’all” and urged “especially the girls” to watch it. Her vantage as an outsider-actor in the Hindi/South crossover space and her willingness to speak candidly position her as a bridge between personal feeling and public call-out. That amplifies the film’s reach beyond pure fandom.

Third, when a known performer sees herself in a character, it signals cultural alignment. Sobhita is better known for her roles in Made in Heaven and OMG 2 than for overtly rebellious cinema. Her declaration signals a shift: female actors no longer only play roles—they recognise and react to them out loud. That commentary becomes part of the film’s narrative life.

For the film’s makers and cast, the upward ripple effect is clear. Sobhita Dhulipala’s praise gives Bad Girl a premium seal of approval outside its own promotional channels. The endorsement built around emotional authenticity provides a layer of credibility—especially since the film had previously faced backlash.

This also intersects with a larger cultural moment. In recent years, viewers—including women—have sought cinema that touches identity, selfhood, vulnerability and societal expectation. Films that articulate “feeling seen” emphasise listening to female voices. Sobhita’s reaction affirms this appetite.

The moment invites us to ask: what does “felt seen” really mean in this context? It suggests the film’s narrative allowed a performer to recognise her reflection—not just metaphorically, but visual, emotional, existential. It means the lens found her rather than her seeking it. That sensation bridges the gap between performer and viewer.

In practice, this is less about the film’s box-office performance and more about its cultural imprint. Whether or not Bad Girl sets records, its ability to prompt responses from actors like Sobhita underscores its relevance. It demonstrates that stories about young women, their choices, struggles and real-life echoes still matter.

Sobhita Dhulipala

At the same time, for Sobhita’s trajectory, the moment is revealing. She is stepping into commentary space—not just ‘what she acts in’ but into what she watches, feels and advocates. That turn—from actress to commenter—suggests her evolution and deepening connection to stories of substance.

Ultimately, the exchange between film and actor, viewer and character, is part of the story’s afterlife. Sobhita’s “I felt seen” is more than praise—it is a public alignment of identity, emotion and narrative. It invites audiences to watch the film not just as entertainment but as mirror.

And in an industry still dominated by blockbuster spectacle, these quietly viral moments can reshape reading of cinema. Not just what we watch, but how the film watches us—how we see ourselves in it.

From West End Girl to Sour, the 10 Best Revenge Albums of All Time

by jummy84 November 9, 2025
written by jummy84

The common adage may dictate that revenge is a dish best served cold, but—luckily for us—musicians tend to serve it piping hot, with a side of pettiness. And though plenty of standalone clap-back tracks have emerged from celebrity break-ups, it takes a certain level of passion, skill, and audacity to commit to an entire revenge album.

Lily Allen’s West End Girl—a scathing, no-holds-barred album allegedly at least partly inspired by the dissolution of her marriage to Stranger Things star David Harbour—takes the idea of airing your dirty laundry to a level that few others would dare to, even by today’s oversharing standards. Reportedly written and recorded in Los Angeles over the course of just 10 days, it has the feel of someone setting their diary entries and voice notes to music, and has spawned a thousand reaction videos since being released in October.

Rosalía’s Lux, meanwhile, sees pop’s most sonically ambitious star working through themes of sex, regret, heartbreak, and, yes, revenge. Though much of the press around the album—as well as its artwork, in which Rosalía dons a nun’s-habit-slash-straightjacket—has focused on the singer’s path to emotional salvation, there are plenty of shots fired throughout, perhaps most overtly on “La Perla,” in which she calls a former partner a “peace thief,” “emotional terrorist,” a “walking red flag,” and “huge disaster.”

Here, find 10 of the best to ever go long-form with revenge.

EXCLUSIVE: Rakhi Sawant SLAMS Urvashi Rautela’s ‘I’m A Mountain Girl, All Natural’ Comment

by jummy84 November 8, 2025
written by jummy84

Rakhi Sawant candidly responded to Urvashi Rautela’s claims of being all-natural and not undergoing any surgeries. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, she highlights that many celebrities have undergone procedures like waist slimming by breaking their ribs, a trend she calls “the new style.” Rakhi emphasises that whether one chooses to go for surgery or not is a personal decision, and there’s no shame in it. She defends the industry’s acceptance of such enhancements, stating that everyone has the right to look and feel their best. Scroll down to read what she said.

Rakhi On Actresses Undergoing Surgeries

When asked when Bollywood actresses undergo different surgeries to look better, why do they not accept it, Rakhi Sawant answered, “Bahut saare logon ne apni hatheliyon ki haddiyan tudwa ke kamar patli kar li hai. This is the new style, you know? You don’t know? Yeh log China, Bhutan, Bangkok, America, Canada jaate hain, aur apni kamar ki upar wali do haddiyan todwa ke andar kar lete hain. Yeh style hai aajkal! Log nahi bolte, kyun bolne ka? Unko lagta hai, ‘kyun bolun bhai, meri mast daal-roti chal rahi hai!’”

Rakhi Sawant Slams Urvashi Rautela

During the same interview, she bashed Urvashi’s all-natural remarks. Sawant said, “Par kuch log nahi bolte na, phir Urvashi ki tarah sab bolte hain, ‘main toh born, paidaishi aisi hi hoon!’ Urvashi, humne tumhare purane photo dekhe behen! Please, sabke purane photo dekho! Dekho bhai, ek baat bolun — surgery karo ya na karo, woh aapki marzi hai, aapka right hai. Aapko accha dikhna hai, aapki daal-roti chal rahi hai, surgery se aapko kaam mil raha hai, toh karna chahiye! Usme koi buri baat nahi hai. Aapki body hai, koi thaili mein bhade ka thodi le ja rahe ho! Kisi aur ke shareer pe thodi karwa rahe ho!”

She continued, “Aur is industry mein zarurat bhi padti hai. Agar mujhe kuch karwana hai, toh main karwaungi, meri marzi hai. Kisi ka baap thodi na rok lega bhai! Sabne karwaya hai, 1000% sabne Bollywood mein karwaya hai! Kisi ne pichwada karwaya, kisi ne ‘A’ karwaya, kisi ne ‘B’ karwaya, kisi ne toh poora karwaya hai! Karwana unki personal choice hai aur bhai, unko bhi toh accha dikhna hai na! Bilkul, tabhi kaam milega. Ab mera toh purana dialogue hai, ‘Joh Khuda ne paida karke nahi bheja, woh doctor ne de diya!’ Nakkli laga diya, har cheez nakkli laga di!”

Rakhi Opens Up On Her Surgeries

Speaking of the surgeries she has undergone, the actress said, “Mujhe toh upar se neeche tak sab log ‘plastic’ hi bolte hain — pata nahi kyun! Karan show ke show mein maine kya bol diya tha thoda… tab se sab mujhe plastic hi bolte hain! Bolte raho bhai, mujhe kya? Aap toh real ho mere saamne baithe — main toh real hoon!”

Urvashi Rautela’s All-Natural Claims

Urvashi Rautela asserts that she is “all natural,” attributing her appearance to her parents, good genes, and a healthy lifestyle.
