Why Did Michael J. Fox Replace Eric Stoltz in ‘Back to the Future’? – Hollywood Life

Back to the Future reigns as one of the most famous film franchises in history. The year 1985 has become a staple in pop culture (even a song by SR-71 is titled after the year), and one of the most iconic figures from that era is Marty McFly: a high school student who travels to the future, then the past, in all three movies. Though the world knows Michael J. Fox brought the character to life, some don’t realize that the role was initially given to Eric Stoltz, whom Michael replaced weeks after production had already begun.

Now that Michael has released his book, Future Boy, which details his hectic schedule balancing Back to the Future and Family Ties, the Parkinson’s Disease advocate revealed what actually happened when he replaced Eric.

Here, Hollywood Life has the breakdown of why Michael replaced Eric and how the two really feel about each other.

Why Did Michael J. Fox Replace Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly?

Michael was the original choice to play Marty in Back to the Future, but his obligation to the Family Ties filming schedule took priority. So, Eric was cast in the role but was replaced by Michael because director Robert Zemeckis envisioned a more comical portrayal of Marty. Eric brought more of a deeper, emotional substance to the character.

Via Entertainment Weekly, Michael wrote in Future Boy, “They had already shot for over a month. Unfortunately, the dailies were disappointing. Eric was an immensely talented actor, but the creative team felt that he just wasn’t the right fit for Marty McFly.”

Michael’s co-stars have also weighed in on the production team’s devastating decision to replace Eric weeks after they had already begun filming. Per Digital Spy, Christopher Lloyd (who played scientist Doc Brown) previously said he “felt for Eric” when he was let go.

I know it’ll never happen ‘officially’…but I still hold out hope that one day we’ll get to see an alternate cut of Back to the Future with Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly, given that roughly 80% of of filming was complete. pic.twitter.com/eufo472kR2

— Mark’s Yesterworld (@Yester_World) January 19, 2023

“He was a really good actor,” Christopher noted, before adding, “Although he was doing the part well, he was not bringing that element of comedy to the screen.”

Lea Thompson had similar remarks, per Digital Spy. The actress, who played Lorraine McFly in Back to the Future, had worked with Eric on the 1984 movie The Wild Life and admitted it was “hard” to see Eric go.

“It was hard for me because I was really good friends with Eric,” Lea previously said. “Eric is such a different actor and he could be very difficult. … [He] had such an intensity. He saw drama in things. He wasn’t really a comedian, and they needed a comedian. He’s super-funny in real life, but he didn’t approach his work like that, and they really needed somebody who had those chops.”

Was Eric Stoltz Fired From Back to the Future?

Yes, Eric was, indeed, fired from Back to the Future, but not because of any bad blood with the production. As previously noted, Michael was chosen to replace Eric because the creative team wanted an actor with a more comical approach in playing Marty.

Are Michael J. Fox & Eric Stoltz Friends?

Yes, Michael wrote in Future Boy that he reached out to Eric 40 years after he took the Pulp Fiction actor’s place as Marty. In one excerpt, Michael noted he “was prepared for the likelihood” that Eric would “prefer” to remain silent on the matter. The fellow actors had never met before Michael reached out.

“If your answer is ‘piss off and leave me alone’… That works, too,” Michael wrote to Eric, he revealed in his book. However, Eric responded with a “beautifully written reply,” which jokingly began with, “Piss off, and leave me alone! I jest.”

“Eric was thoughtful about my outreach, and although he respectfully declined to participate in the book, he seemed open to the idea of getting together,” Michael explained in his book.

After Eric visited Michael at his New York home, it was clear to both of them that “neither of us had an issue with the other,” the Teen Wolf star wrote in Future Boy.

“What transpired on Back to the Future had not made us enemies or fated rivals; we were just two dedicated actors who had poured equal amounts of energy into the same role,” Michael noted. “The rest had nothing to do with us. As it turned out, we had much more in common than our spin as Marty.”

Raccoon Media Group and Messe München announce strategic partnership to redefine ISPO’s global future

by jummy84 October 28, 2025
written by jummy84

(L-R Mike Seaman, Group CEO at Raccoon Media Group, Doug Emslie, Chairman Raccoon Media Group, Stefan Rummel, Co-CEO at Messe Munchen and Harald Kirchschlager, Executive Director Corporate Strategy & Development at Messe München)

Raccoon Media Group and Messe München are joining forces to usher in a new era for ISPO, the world’s largest and most influential trade event for the sporting goods and outdoor industry. Under the joint venture, Raccoon Media Group will be responsible for the operational leadership of the event, with key figureheads from Messe München transferring into the new leadership structure to deliver an ambitious, future-facing vision.

From 2026, ISPO will start with a new strategic concept, refined event date of 3-5 November, avoiding key international holidays and aligning more strategically with buying cycles, as well as a new venue with a relocation to the RAI, Amsterdam. This opens the doors to a more globally connected marketplace and supports accessibility to a broader international audience. The concept represents a significant strategic shift designed to futureproof the event for the evolving demands of the global sports and outdoor market and to once again, create an event that is globally significant.

As part of this transformation, a €3 million investment programme has been announced, comprising:

  • €1 million into advocacy, supporting not-for-profit organisations that protect the natural environments in which people play, increasing participation and safeguarding the grassroots of the sports industry
  • €1 million into a global hosted buyer programme, ensuring robust ROI for exhibitors and attendees while strengthening international business opportunities
  • €1 million into a world-class content programme, designed to deliver cutting-edge insight, thought leadership and education across the sports and outdoor ecosystem

The reimagined ISPO will begin with The ISPO Leaders’ Summit, a C-suite conference bringing together global industry leaders for a first-class content programme. The Summit will welcome globally impactful C-suite executives, policymakers and industry leaders—including confirmed speakers Jimmy Chin (Filmmaker and Mountaineer), Hap Klopp (Founder, The North Face), Professor Laura McAllister (Vice President of UEFA), Andy Rubin (Deputy Chair, Pentland Group), John Lacey (CEO, Burton) and Pia Heidenmark Cook (Former Group Chief Sustainability Officer Ingka/IKEA) to shape the strategic agenda for a year of growth and innovation across the industry.

Following this will be a two-day streamlined and focused exhibition, uniting the global sporting goods, winter and outdoor community under one roof to showcase innovation, foster collaboration and drive commercial success.

The 2025 event will mark a dignified and memorable ISPO Show in Munich under Messe München’s stewardship. This year’s edition will define the first strategic cornerstones for the future – a milestone event that provides the ideal launchpad for the next chapter. Following this remarkable event, the leadership team of the newly established joint venture company will take the helm post-2025. For the first time in the event’s history, rebooking for the following edition will be available onsite – providing exhibitors and partners with a seamless transition into the next era of ISPO.

Mike Seaman, Group CEO of Raccoon Media Group, commented:
“We are incredibly proud to take ISPO into its next chapter. By combining the rich heritage and reputation of ISPO with our agile, forward-thinking, community-driven approach, we are creating an event that not only reflects the future of sport and the outdoors but actively shapes it. Our investments in advocacy, hosted buyers and content underline our commitment to delivering tangible value for the entire industry—from grassroots organisations to global brands.

Seaman continued: “The Sports and Outdoor market in Europe has fragmented over the last decade and needs a cohesive platform to discuss key issues, network and do business. In the USA we have seen the reduction in trade shows and the subsequent effects on the industry and associations – all during a time when advocacy and communal voice is needed the most on key issues like public lands.  We need to build ISPO into an event that is necessary and needed by the Sports and Outdoor Community. ISPO should help to protect the places we play, unite the industry and inspire the next generation of brands, leaders and businesses and that’s exactly what we plan to deliver.”

“We respond to market changes with care and consideration. The joint venture with Raccoon Media Group is a real new beginning and brings opportunities for the continuation of our traditional event. The focus on the growth of our major events at home and abroad strengthens our global market position as a top trade fair company. The industry will benefit from the partnership and receive important impetus,” say the two CEOs of Messe München, Stefan Rummel and Dr Reinhard Pfeiffer, in a joint statement.

Sonequa Martin-Green Talks Danny and Lena's Future as Partners, Possible Romance for Lena

Sonequa Martin-Green Talks Danny and Lena’s Future as Partners, Possible Romance for Lena

by jummy84 October 25, 2025
written by jummy84

What To Know

  • In the latest Boston Blue episode, Danny Reagan decides to stay and work in Boston to be closer to his son Sean, solidifying his commitment after Sean’s hospitalization in the series premiere.
  • Sonequa Martin-Green teases how it will go for Danny and Lena now that he’s staying.
  • The star also shares the romance she’s hoping to see onscreen going forward.

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 2 “Teammates.”]

Even though Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) is still on loan from the NYPD to the Boston Police Department, if there were any doubts that Danny wouldn’t stay in Boston to hang with his son Sean (Mika Amonsen), that ended in this week’s episode. Seeing Sean comatose in the Boston Blue series premiere had really helped seal the deal. Not that Danny will ever lose his love of the Mets as he says to his son leaving the actual Fenway Park after a game: “It’s your first day on the job and the Mets win over the stinking Red Sox!” (In the episode, he is forced into a Red Sox shirt.)

There was more rivalry to come when Danny tries to convince Sean to be dominant in his partnership with fellow rookie Jonah Silver (Marcus Scribner), who’s also the younger brother of Det. Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), his temporary partner, while Lena makes sure that Jonah “won’t get stuck in the sidekick zone.” Naturally, they each try to be Batman and not Robin, which causes a bit of friction like who chooses the music in the squad car, but also Jonah not being in position when they tried to catch a perp. As this is a Blue Bloods spinoff, they are fast friends at the episode’s end.

Though there will be tussles along the way no doubt, Danny and Lena, a.k.a. Brooklyn and Beantown, bonded almost immediately. Martin-Green says in the video above, “Apparently there’s a crazy feud between New York and Boston. I didn’t know! It’s fascinating that you have this Bostonian who played a New Yorker, going back to Boston and pretending he didn’t like Boston despite it’s where he’s from. It’s funny and Donnie laughs about it, too.”

The main storyline in the second episode brought Danny and Lena even closer, when the two detectives are pulled into the investigation of murdered whistleblower Winston Ballard, who DA Mae Silver (Gloria Reuben) was working with. The question was what happened to the whistleblower’s protective detail. The answer: One left to take care of a sick kid and the other was paid off by the eventual killer.

Various criminals wanted to prevent Ballard’s testimony about a Ponzi scheme but there were more deaths to come when the wealthy gangster who ran the scheme with Ballard got shot through a window right in front of Danny and Lena, ”the second person who died in my arms this week,” as Danny put it, not happily. In the end, a victim of the gangster and whistleblower’s who lost all his money killed them while his sister, Ballard’s widow, Naomi, was arrested as an accessory to murder.

The episode ends with Danny’s decision to try living and working in Boston. As he tells Sean, he and his girlfriend, Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez), will figure things out, “and the family understands.”

Does that mean that Danny and Lena are permanent partners going forward? Martin-Green carefully says, with a laugh, “Danny Reagan transition from the NYPD to the BPD is a very interesting storypoint, and we will be exploring it.”

There might be another interesting romance in the future, says Martin-Green. Her real-life husband, Kenric Green, plays DA Silver’s chief of staff, introduced in this episode. The couple, says the actress, both tease maybe their characters should get together. “We will see them together in Episode 8,” she shares.

Watch the full video interview above for more from Sonequa Martin-Green.

Louis Emerick on his Hollyoaks future after Brookside crossover twist

Louis Emerick on his Hollyoaks future after Brookside crossover twist

by jummy84 October 22, 2025
written by jummy84

There was more to the much-hyped return to Brookside Close than pure nostalgia, as the special crossover with Hollyoaks for its 30th anniversary revealed an almighty twist that uncovered an epic plot with decades of dramatic backstory.

Detective Donny Clark, who arrived in Hollyoaks village 18 months ago to reconnect with long-lost daughter Vicky Grant, has actually been Mick Johnson from Brookside all along. If this audacious development has shocked the audience, imagine how Louis Emerick felt when he was told he’d been playing his most famous role in plain sight, and didn’t have a clue?

“I was summoned by our executive producer Hannah Cheers for a meeting, but she wanted to walk and talk in the park, not in her office,” recalls Emerick, speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com about the day he was let in on one of the biggest soap secrets of the year.

“It was all quite covert, like a spy film. She pitched the whole thing: the Brookie crossover, the storyline that connected it, and Donny turning out to be Mick. I was waiting for her to say it was an April fool, only this was July!

“Before she actually told me, Hannah was going round the houses trying to explain it and seemed to be soft soaping me, to prepare me for what she was about to say. I wondered whether Donny was going to turn gay in his middle age or something unexpected – I was ready for anything! The whole idea was so far out of left field, but I was really excited.”

Explanatory dialogue tells us that 20 years ago, in the shared Brookie-Oaks universe, Mick Johnson had an ill-advised affair with gangster Froggy Black’s wife. Vengeful Froggy planned to have Mick murdered, so to protect his family, Mr Johnson faked his death and made a fresh start under the new identity Donny Clark.

With Froggy now living in the same village as ‘Donny’ – what are the chances? – the detective’s past has come back to haunt him and his identity has been compromised. This forced a return to Brookside Close to warn daughter Gemma, along with assorted old pals including Sheila Grant and Billy Corkhill, who took in orphaned Gemma, that they could be in danger from Froggy’s criminal empire. The story continues in a hard-hitting edition of Hollyoaks Later, but where does this leave Donny/Mick in the main show? And what should we call him now?

“Initially they wanted the character to be known as ‘Mick’ from this point, but I thought that was a step too far and went against it,” explains Emerick. “Hannah went with it too. There’s more drama in as few people as possible knowing the truth.

“So Mick is gone and he’s still Donny, but trying to keep his past a secret. Donny has been a police officer for years, how will he explain he used to be someone else? And will those who know use it to their advantage? There are threats against him and his loved ones. And you’ve got to ask yourself, Donny’s kept all this hidden for 20 years – what else is he hiding?”

Emerick confirms Mick’s grown-up daughter Gemma, played by ex-Coronation Street star Tisha Merry, will be sticking around in Hollyoaks wanting answers from the father she grieved for. Brookside viewers, and Emerick, remember Gemma as a sweet little kid – to say she’s changed is an understatement…

Louis Emerick as Donny. Lime Pictures

“I think my Gemma has been substituted by an alien! The sweet girl Mick left is like the lead character in The Devil Wears Prada times 10! Gemma is a scheming baddie and the brains behind some terrible things that happened in the Later episode. And she’s dating Warren Fox!

“Gemma wants to punish her dad. Tisha and I have spoken about this and I think it’s a bit harsh. Her dad went out of her life for 20 years but for the right reasons – Gemma’s life was in danger. We’ll see Gemma trying to get at Donny’s fiancée Misbah, and even have a go at Mercedes McQueen! Vicky likes the idea of having a big sister, and her and Gemma seem to have a good relationship. But Gemma’s not to be trusted so I’m sure somewhere down the line that’s all going to change…”

Hollyoaks was conceived in 1995 as a younger-skewed spin-off from Brookside, and there were occasional crossovers and Easter eggs in the early days that acknowledged it occupied the same fictional world. Over time, and once Brookside was axed in 2003, that aspect was discarded – until now.

Respectfully paying tribute to its parent show is a master stroke on Hollyoaks’ part, and has seen a wave of nostalgic appreciation for the groundbreaking Brookie, which changed the face of television drama when it was launched back in 1982. It’s also got Johnson recalling his journey to the show, and how he has an old neighbour to thank for helping him on his way.

“It was 1989, I was a jobbing actor but was out of work at that time. An old lady who lived opposite called Rita knocked on my door one day, because she knew everyone else was out at work, saying she had a leak in her house and water was coming through the ceiling. I’m to DIY what an elephant is to hang gliding so I didn’t have a clue, but I knew to turn the stopcock off! So the water stopped and she got a plumber.

“Rita was so grateful. My phone had been cut off, because I couldn’t pay the bill, so she offered to pay it as a thank you. I said there was no need, but asked if I could give her phone number to my agent – this was before mobile phones – so they could get hold of me. Two weeks later I got the Brookside audition, and Rita’s coming back and forth with my schedule and call time written on a sheet of A4. She was the go-between with my agent! It was a domino effect from there, one ep of Brookie led to a BBC film with Miranda Richardson and Zoë Wanamaker, then I went back into Brookside and the rest is history.”

Emerick’s blend of roguish charm and air of authority has seen him work constantly since he quit Brookside in 2001, with recurring roles in Coronation Street, Casualty and Last of the Summer Wine, along with numerous guest appearances in everything from New Tricks to Vera and on stage.

The charismatic actor is full of stories from his early days on Brookie, where he got his big break alongside seasoned performers who were experiencing soap fame in their later years. “Bill Dean, who played Harry Cross, was in Scum which was a huge, groundbreaking film in the 70s, and also in Dennis Potter’s TV drama Pennies from Heaven. I was already starstruck, and being a Brookside fan before I was in it, I couldn’t believe I was working with Harry Cross! I used to go down the corner shop near the Close to get Bill’s ciggies.

“Another one I remember was Gladys Ambrose, who was Billy Corkhill’s mother-in-law, Julia Brogan. She and her husband were in the circus back in the day as a comedy acrobatic act, then she went on the variety circuit. She was wonderful and so glamorous, always in ridiculously high heels. When they made her a regular after years of guest stints she burst into the green room saying: ‘I’ve waited 45 years to become an overnight success!’

Hollyoaks inherited Brookside’s mantle of tackling taboo topics no other television show will touch, highlighting incel culture two years before Adolescence, and recently exploring sibling sexual abuse with unflinching commitment. As a final reflection on the impact of Sir Phil Redmond’s creations, Emerick says he is proud to have been a part of both shows that have broken so many boundaries, and praises the genre’s ongoing efforts to shine a light on uncomfortable issues.

“For the audience, seeing characters on a soap go through what they’re going through in real life enables them to reach out and get help. They can relate to it. Soaps are very much still a vital part of our lives, and will continue to be for some time.”

Ibrahim Ali Khan accepts Nadaaniyan was ‘really bad’, tells haters: ‘If I now give a blockbuster in the future…’

Ibrahim Ali Khan, who made his Bollywood debut with Nadaaniyan, has called it a “really bad film.” Speaking with Esquire India, Ibrahim said that he and his film were trolled “nonstop.” He added that if he gives a “blockbuster in the future, I want the same kind of response” and that people “should go mad after” him.

Ibrahim Ali Khan talks about his film Nadaaniyan

The son of Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh recalled how people waited in anticipation for Nadaaniyan’s release. He said, “Not too long ago, they were all waiting for my launch, and after Nadaaniyan, the hype has dropped real bad. They’ve trolled me nonstop. ‘He won’t be able to do it only.’ It’s a massive low… and I constantly feel bad about it. I’m just gonna go on record and say that it was a really bad film.”

Ibrahim talks about featuring in a blockbuster

Ibrahim Ali Khan added, “It was really bad. It became a sort of culture to, ‘Oh, let’s troll that film’. There were people who were trolling it just because they heard that some other person was trolling it. That’s uncalled for, but if I now give a blockbuster in the future, I want the same kind of response. They should go mad after me.”

All about Nadaaniyan, its review

Nadaaniyan, a teen romantic comedy film, was directed by Shauna Gautam and produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Somen Mishra under Dharmatic Entertainment. The film also stars Khushi Kapoor, Mahima Chaudhry, Suniel Shetty, Dia Mirza, and Jugal Hansraj.

The Hindustan Times review of the film read, “Ibrahim is faithful- not to the art but to that one constant confused/disgusted expression he has on his face. It’s his first film, okay. Then he should have prepared more. Who gives an exam without preparing? It’s a disappointing debut. Khushi Kapoor fares slightly well, as she has a tougher story arc, overcoming a broken family. She handles emotional scenes well, but her dialogue delivery needs more nuance.”

Ibrahim’s films

Ibrahim was last seen in Kayoze Irani’s Sarzameen alongside Kajol and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Fans will see him next in Diler, directed by Kunal Deshmukh. The film will reportedly feature Sreeleela in the female lead.

Future Enters Spirits Industry With Roué Wine And Cocktails

by jummy84 October 17, 2025
written by jummy84

While Future is known for his melodic raps about the enticing allure of “Dirty Sprite,” the Atlanta rapper is actually a lover of wine. With each unscrewed cork, he’s noticed something amiss. His life path aligned with beverage industry expert Ryan Ayotte, and together the two formulated Roué: a new line of fine wines and Ready-to-Drink (RTD) cocktails.

“I enjoy wine, but couldn’t find a brand that truly reflected me, something current, innovative, and connected to the culture,” expressed the Grammy-winner in a press statement. “So, I created it. Roué is about bringing diversity into the wine world and showing what’s possible when creativity and culture collide. Roué is for everyone who’s ever felt unseen in spaces like this. Roué is culture, creativity, and authenticity in a bottle”.

Roué

The initial Roué launch includes a 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon and a 2024 Sauvignon Blanc, which feature grapes from Pasa Robles and Lake County, California, respectively. Roué also entered the market with two RTDs, Ruby Passion and Lemon Lust.

“If we just wanted to launch a generic wine bottle with a new label on it, it could take two months to build. But for us, we really start from scratch,” Ayotte explained to VIBE on a Zoom call ahead of the launch.

The two men embarked on a long journey from concept to product to create a wine that speaks to the preferences of today’s consumers, who want quality and style without the intimidating jargon of traditional wine culture.

“We had a whole bunch of ideas and we really landed on how to create a multifaceted, really unique bottle that kind of, when you’re bringing back to what the brand’s vision is and its background, it kind of parallels Future, but multi-dimensional,” adds Ayotte. “He’s so unique in the sense that he’s iconic in his music, but also at home on the streets of Atlanta versus the red carpet at the Met Gala. You can’t pigeonhole him into one thing.”

Roué wine

Roué

The wine bottle is custom-designed with this in mind. In the process, the team reviewed multiple samples, fine-tuning the bottle, the box, and overall packaging of Roué until all parties were satisfied.

“We had a ton of different ideas for what that bottle shape looks like, and Future had his hand in every part of the design process, reviewing samples, reviewing mood boards, reviewing the names,” said Ayotte.

The same intention went into the cocktails, which prioritize quality and taste to offer a premium experience, from the flavors served in glass bottles over cans to the unique flavor profiles. At 8% ABV, the Ruby Passion is described as having a red wine base, enhanced with strawberry, pomegranate, apple, raspberry, and a hint of lemon. Lemon Lust introduces a mix of lemon and orange with a white wine base, creating a bold flavor that is not a “sugar bomb.

Roue cocktail

Roué

Recommended pairings for the Cabernet Sauvignon include a filet mignon, a wagyu burger, or a charcuterie board. The championed Sauvignon Blanc is best served with seafood or creamy, buttery dishes. As for the cocktails, they make great options for a variety of meals and settings, as designed.

“I think, separately, both of us before even getting to know each other felt like there’s an opportunity to build a brand for sort of a new generation that kind of sets a new standard,” shared Ayotte. “At the end of the day, whether it’s with Future or just doing it on your own, to bring something to the market in such a competitive industry, you really got to have something that’s unique.”

Roué is available in 44 states, including Georgia, Florida, and California, and can be purchased through leading retailers like BevMo, Gopuff, Total Wine, and, of course, drinkroue.com.

Los Angeles witnessed a cinematic shift on Wednesday, September 24, as the LA Vertical Drama Market, hosted by VertIGo/Dana Productions, took center stage. The groundbreaking event brought together filmmakers, producers, and digital innovators to celebrate and explore the rise of vertical storytelling, a format that’s rapidly transforming Hollywood’s creative landscape.

At its heart, the LA Vertical Drama Market was a convergence of vision and opportunity. Hosted by Dana Protsyshak, founder of VertIGo, the event gathered a new generation of storytellers determined to challenge convention and embrace innovation. “People were skeptical about verticals at first, but now they want in. Entertainment is changing and you need to adapt to it,” said Dana, reflecting on how the once-dismissed format has become one of the most exciting frontiers in modern filmmaking.

The LA Vertical Drama Market evolved from Dana’s successful VertIGo Vertical Mixers, six of which were hosted earlier in 2025, and represented a natural expansion of her mission to unite creatives working on vertical projects.

“I felt the need to shape the industry around verticals, build the community of creatives who work on verticals and introduce verticals to Hollywood,” Dana explained. “When I was starting in the film industry, attending film festivals and markets gave me lots of insights into the industry and helped me navigate my career as well as meet new people. All this combined shaped the LA Vertical Drama Market.”

Throughout the night, conversations buzzed around the artistic possibilities and challenges that come with the vertical frame, once seen as a social media quirk, now recognized as a powerful storytelling tool. “Vertical frame opens up new opportunities and challenges creatives to explore new ways of telling stories,” Dana shared.

The event also tackled the lingering doubts about the medium. “The ghost of Quibi begins to disappear thanks to the buzz verticals are getting, encouraging filmmakers to explore verticals from a fresh perspective. More and more traditional filmmakers open up to the opportunities verticals give,” she said, addressing how vertical filmmaking is carving out a serious place in the entertainment industry.

The LA Vertical Drama Market wasn’t just an event, it was a declaration. By bridging the gap between Hollywood insiders, independent creators, and digital visionaries, VertIGo set the stage for a new cinematic language.

As the night wrapped in Los Angeles, one message was clear: vertical storytelling isn’t the next big thing, it’s the new normal, shaping Hollywood’s next wave of creativity.
