11 Bollywood Films That Capture The Spirit Of Diwali | Glamsham.com

Every October or November, as cities glitter with lamps and laughter, Diwali arrives — not just as a festival but as a feeling. It’s the pulse of renewal, a reminder that darkness never lasts forever. Across homes and streets, and just as vividly across movie screens, the celebration becomes a canvas for everything that makes us human — love, loss, family, and the eternal tug between tradition and change.

At its heart, Diwali marks the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and hope over despair. Rooted in legends like Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya and Goddess Lakshmi’s visit to earth, the festival carries layers of faith and symbolism. On a personal level, it’s about reflection and renewal — letting go of the old and making space for the new. Collectively, it’s about togetherness: a shared moment when families, communities, and even strangers reconnect through warmth and light.

Bollywood, ever attuned to emotion and spectacle, has long used Diwali as more than festive décor. The glow of diyas, the crackle of fireworks, the pulse of family reunions — all become storytelling devices. Sometimes, the festival mirrors joy; other times, it deepens conflict or marks a turning point. Here are some of the most memorable moments where Diwali didn’t just appear on screen — it meant something.

Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994)
Diwali here is pure celebration — laughter, rituals, and a home overflowing with joy. It captures everything the festival stands for: family, love, and the comforting rhythm of tradition.

Chachi 420 (1997)
Diwali sets the stage for chaos and laughter as disguise and drama collide. Amid the firecrackers and confusion, the festival fuels both comedy and turning point.

Vaastav (1999)
In a world of crime and tragedy, a Diwali moment between father and son cuts through the darkness. The contrast is striking — the festival’s light becomes a brief, almost sacred pause in a life spiraling into night.

Mohabbatein (2000)
In a film about love challenging authority, Diwali becomes the perfect metaphor. The song “Pairon Mein Bandhan Hai” glows with defiance and affection, as young hearts light their own path against strict rules. Light, in this story, is both rebellion and renewal.

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001)
Few scenes capture the emotional weight of Diwali like the one where the family gathers in grandeur and grief. Lamps flicker, aarti plays, and unspoken forgiveness fills the air. The festival becomes the heartbeat of the film — reunion, love, and belonging all rolled into one radiant moment.

Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003)
For a film about love and impermanence, Diwali brings bittersweet balance. The festival of brightness unfolds amid a story shadowed by sadness, reminding viewers that joy and pain often coexist.

Swades (2004)
A village’s Diwali without electricity becomes one of the film’s most symbolic scenes. The festival transforms from spectacle to statement — about light as empowerment, progress, and unity.

Om Shanti Om (2007)
The shimmering lights and grand sets echo Diwali’s dazzle, framing the film’s themes of illusion and rebirth. It’s spectacle with soul — light as both glamour and metaphor.

We Are Family (2010)
Set against flickering diyas and emotional tension, a Diwali scene captures transition — a family redefining itself through loss and acceptance. The light, even in grief, remains steady.

Golmaal 3 (2010)
Loud, bright, and chaotic — the perfect match between the film’s tone and Diwali’s spirit. Fireworks explode both literally and emotionally as relationships crackle and settle into warmth.

Aisha (2010)
Urban, chic, and introspective, Diwali here reflects self-realization. Amid parties and décor, the light symbolizes clarity — a turning point for love and identity.

Govinda REACTS To ‘Late Comer’ Tag And Struggles Of Doing 14 Films; Says, “Kiske Baap Ke Andar Taaqat Hai Ki…”

by jummy84 October 16, 2025
written by jummy84

Bollywood actor Govinda, known for his iconic comedy and dance roles in the 90s, recently spoke about the long-standing criticism that he was often late to film sets. Govinda said he felt unfairly targeted by these comments, which hurt his image in the industry. He explained that during his peak, he was working on multiple films at the same time, sometimes as many as 14. This tight schedule made it nearly impossible to always be on time.

Govinda On Being ‘Defamed’ For Coming Late On Sets

Twinkle Khanna, one of the show’s hosts in Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle, recalled working with him and said, “Sometimes he would arrive in a costume from a different movie. He was doing 14 films.”

Govinda laughed and said he still managed to remember all his lines. He credited this to director Kirti Kumar, who would scare him into staying sharp. “Out of fear, I became more honest and serious about my work,” he said.

When asked how he even remembered the dialogues, he actor responded, “Sab yaad rehta tha. Kirti ne mujhe itna daraa diya tha na ki ‘Chi, chi, bina planning ke picture karrahe hai, Yeh nahi chali toh tu gaya.’ Itna darata tha woh mujhe. Dar dar ke mai zyada imaandar hogaya usme (I remembered everything. Kirti had scared me so much. He would say, ‘We are shooting this film without planning. If this doesn’t work, you’re finished.’ He used to scare me so much. Out of fear, I became more honest).”

He also spoke about shooting in tough conditions, often without proper finances, locations, or even confirmed co-stars. Despite all this, he continued working hard.

Reacting to the rumours about him always being late to sets, which reportedly affected some professional relationships, he said, “Mai defame huwa hu ki mai time pe nahi aata hu. Maine kaha ‘kiske baap ke andar taaqat hai ki woh 5 shift kare aur time pe aaye. Possible hi nahi hai, ho hi nahi sakta. Itni zyada shooting kaise karega aadmi? Yaha toh ek picture ke andar thak jate hai log (I’ve been defamed for not arriving on time. Who has the strength to do five shifts and still come on time? It’s just not possible. How can someone do so much shooting? Here, people get exhausted doing even one film).”

His honest reflections gave fans a rare insight into the pressure of stardom and the challenges behind the scenes of his glittering career. Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle is available for streaming on Prime Video.

written by jummy84

Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s body of work has been as varied as it gets- from the gritty Sacred Games, to the universally acclaimed Gangs of Wasseypur, to the dark Raman Raghav 2.0. And now, he’s set for Thamma, a horror-comedy alongside Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui

In a chat with HT City, he tells us he is just glad that this will be the first film that his children- daughter Shora and son Yani, will be able to watch him in! “Mujhe Thamma ke liye excitement isiliye bhi hai kyunki voh world jahaan pe humne shoot kiya hai, voh sirf humne dant kathaaon mein pehle padha tha. And plus, the kind of films I do, kids can’t watch them. Yeh pehli film hai jo mere bachche dekh paayenge!,” laughs the 51-year-old.

Thamma is another installment in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU) created by Dinesh Vijan. Nawazuddin is all praises for the way the universe has shaped up so far, with Stree and Munjya. “If you look at this universe, from Stree till now, the set of talented actors you get to see in a horror film, didn’t used to happen for horror films before. “The actors are doing everything that you see a character doing.” Disney has unveiled a new official trailer for a making of documentary called Fire and Water: Making The Avatar Films. This 2-part doc event will be available on November 7th streaming on Disney+. Part of the promotion for the upcoming Avatar 3 movie out in December. The story continues following Jake & Neytiri’s family while they keep growing, with more troubles as the brutal RDA comes after them. They also encounter a dangerous Ash Clan of flying Na’vi – who end up working with Quaritch against the other Na’vi tribes. James Cameron’s Fire & Ash stars Sam Worthington as Jake, Zoe Saldana as Neytiri, Sigourney Weaver as Kiri, Stephen Lang as Quaritch, Britain Dalton as Lo’ak, Jack Champion as “Spider”, Bailey Bass as Reya, Trinity Bliss as Tuk, Kate Winslet as Ronal, Filip Geljo, Edie Falco, Cliff Curtis, David Thewlis, Keston John, Joel David Moore, Jemaine Clement, plus Oona Chaplin as Varang of the Ash Clan. I actually really enjoy these behind-the-scenes looks at Avatar because we not only get to check the actors in their MoCap outfits, we also get to see how much money they spend on every single aspect of this movie. From the costume designs, to the creature designs, to the shooting space, to the VFX rigs, everything… I will definitely be watching this.

Here’s the official trailer for Disney+’s doc Fire and Water: Making The Avatar Films, via YouTube:

Author Chetan Bhagat: I don’t, but Indians care about films because they don’t read books

by jummy84 October 15, 2025
written by jummy84

For the 90s kids thriving on Reddit today, the most pop-ular (or unpopular) author back then was Chetan Bhagat. His dealing of nonchalant characters, with rarely something unique, gained popularity for falling into familiar tropes and got much-talked about. So much so that Chetan’s books even became instant fodder for mainstream Indian cinema.

Author Chetan Bhagat talks about his new book, 12 Years, and how he managed to delve into the world of new age romances at 51.

Cut to 2025, the world has moved on, and so have the modern day characters or couples. Now, those living in the age of situationships have got a new talking-point with Chetan 2.0 returning to his OG loved-genre of love stories.

Excerpts from an interview:

Q. It’s 12 years since you last wrote about romance. The world has changed, and you’re back to writing the same genre. Why an old formula?

People love my love stories and that’s because there’s no formula in them. Each time it’s a fresh take on fresh issues. The age gap romance, in 12 Years, seemed bold and fresh and something I had not attempted yet. That’s why I felt it had something unique, which made me get back to love stories after more than a decade.

Q. So, this genre is not chosen with the agenda that it gets adapted for the screen; like your previous works?

That carries an assumption that I care a lot for the screen. I don’t care; Indians care because they don’t read books. So they are always asking me, ‘When is the movie coming?’ As if movie is the ultimate Nobel Prize! They believe that in Indian society films are up in the hierarchy of art forms; but it’s not. Films are the lazy man’s form of art consumption. I’ve had five adaptations of my works, and been part of six movies. It took a good amount of time from my life. But, I’ve reached an age where I don’t care much for that. I mean, ultimately, the joy you get from reading 2 States (his last book in the same genre), you’re not going to get from watching the movie.

Any book will trigger a reader’s imagination… I was also in a phase where I was fascinated by Bollywood. I grew up watching movies and saw the same actors call me to say, ‘We love your stories’. Of course you get carried away… But, finally, I realised that the true essence of what I enjoy doing is not that… For me, the biggest creative satisfaction come from writing a fresh story with fresh conflict and societal observations.

Q. How did you rewire yourself as a writer, to adapt to the modern age of ‘situationships’?

When my first book came out, there were no smartphones or even cellphones. I remember people used to tell me how they’d tear up the books in parts to exchange and read… Today, everybody has a phone in their pocket and is constantly entertained. So I had to change my plots too, embrace videos and social media and maybe that’s the reason I’m still around. I’ve tried to change and see the new generation non-judgmentally. Like I didn’t understand ghosting. For my value system it’s very rude. But I’m trying to come to terms with this, and the times we live in.

It’s a 51-year-old man writing a story about a 33-year-old guy falling in love with a 21-year-old girl. If not executed right, this bold story could’ve come across as creepy, strange and weird. But after 21 years of writing, I think I’ve reached a stage where I can handle this all, sensitively.

Directed by Ra Karthik and starring Priyanka Mohan alongside Park Hye-Jin of Squid Game fame, the film is about a young woman whose dream trip to Korea is derailed by betrayal. Through unexpected friendships and hard lessons, she discovers hope, and herself.

The film clearly shows what a debutant should and shouldn’t do.”

Turning his advice toward Karan Johar, Akshay added, “Don’t sign a three-movie deal. Give your debutants the freedom to explore. Let them run away if they want to. As the saying goes, ‘Let them be free, and if they belong to you, they will come back.’”

How Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films Shaped A Landmark Year Through Diverse Storytelling

Exploring Maddock Films’ Diverse Range Of Movies In 2025! (Photo Credit – Instagram)

2025 has truly been a landmark year for Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, a production house celebrated for blending innovation, creativity, and entertainment. The production house released a diverse range of genres this year, encompassing historical sagas, patriotic thrillers, and heartfelt romances. Now, they are set to round up their line-up, returning to their signature element with the highly anticipated upcoming horror comedy, Thamma. Here’s a look at Maddock’s spectacular slate this year:

1. Chhaava

A historical spectacle that brought the valor of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj to life on the big screen, Chhaava was no less than an epic. With compelling performances by Vicky Kaushal, Akshaye Khanna, and Rashmika Mandanna, coupled with grand visuals and a stirring narrative, Chhaava reaffirmed Maddock’s ability to handle large-scale, emotionally charged storytelling.

2. Sky Force

Set against the backdrop of India’s air defense, Sky Force offered a gripping blend of real-life heroism and high-octane action. The film, soaring high on patriotism and action, not only celebrated unsung heroes of the Indian Air Force but also struck a chord with audiences who love adrenaline-packed patriotism. It featured powerful performances by Akshay Kumar, Veer Pahariya, Sara Ali Khan, and Nimrat Kaur.

3. Bhul Chuk Maaf

In true Maddock style, Bhul Chuk Maaf took viewers back to the charm of small-town India. With its mix of humor, innocence, and relatable relationships, this romantic drama with a time travel twist proved that simple stories, told beautifully, always find their way into the hearts of audiences, exactly like Maddock’s previous outings. The film starred Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi in lead roles.

4. Tehran

Diving into the world of espionage and geopolitics, Tehran, featuring a power-packed performance by the ever-talented John Abraham, showcased Maddock’s flair for sharp, intelligent thrillers. With edge-of-your-seat tension and a timely narrative, it offered both style and substance to the audience, becoming one of the best political thrillers of the year.

5. Param Sundari

Starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, Param Sundari is Maddock Films’ most recent outing. A cross-cultural romance that celebrated the power of connection across borders, the film stood out for its soulful storytelling, heartfelt premise, and a fresh pairing. It quickly became one of the most talked-about love stories of recent times.

6. Thamma

After an eventful year, Maddock is set to return to its signature horror-comedy zone with Thamma. Blending the fan-favorite supernatural chills with laugh-out-loud moments, the film is set to prove again that no one does spooky fun quite like Maddock Films. Starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Paresh Rawal, among others, Thamma will be part of the Maddock Horror Universe.

From grand epics to eerie laughter, 2025 has solidified Maddock Films’ reputation as one of Bollywood’s most dynamic and genre-defining production houses. This Diwali, audiences can expect more than fireworks – because Thamma promises a celebration dipped in blood. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, the film is slated for a grand release on October 21, 2025!

Sonam Bajwa reveals she turned down Bollywood films over kissing scenes: ‘Is Punjab going to be OK with it’

Sonam Bajwa reveals she turned down Bollywood films over kissing scenes: ‘Is Punjab going to be OK with it’

by jummy84 October 13, 2025
written by jummy84

Actor Sonam Bajwa has revealed that she once declined several Bollywood offers because they involved kissing scenes. She says this decision was driven by fear and self-doubt rather than personal conviction.

Punjabi actress Sonam Bajwa initially turned down Bollywood roles with kissing scenes, fearing how her Punjab audience would react.

Sonam opened up about her inhibitions

In a conversation with Film Companion, the Punjabi star opened up about how cultural expectations and the fear of public judgment held her back early in her career. Sonam said she worried about how audiences in Punjab, where she enjoys massive popularity, would perceive her performing intimate scenes on screen.

“I said no to a couple of things in Bollywood because I kept wondering, Is Punjab going to be okay with it? We have that mentality that families will be watching… I was very scared to do a kissing scene back then. I thought, ‘how are people going to respond to it? How will those who’ve made me who I am react? Will my family understand that it’s just for a film?’ I had all these questions in my mind.”

The Carry on Jatta 3 actor added that her hesitation stemmed from wanting to protect her image and stay true to her core audience. She admitted that she did not want to disappoint people who have supported her since the beginning, explaining that she had created certain boundaries for herself out of respect for her upbringing and cultural roots.

However, a heart-to-heart conversation with her parents completely changed her outlook. “A couple of years ago, I finally spoke to my mom and dad about it. They said, ‘Yes, if it’s for a film, it’s fine.’ I was so shocked. I kept thinking, Why didn’t I talk to them earlier? We make so many assumptions in our heads. I was shy to even bring it up, but they were like, Koi nahi, je film layi hai, koi chakkar nahi (It’s for a film, there’s no problem),” Sonam shared.

Sonam Bajwa’s acting journey

Sonam Bajwa began her career as a model before making her acting debut with the Punjabi film Best of Luck (2013). She rose to fame with Punjab 1984 (2014), earning praise for her natural screen presence and emotional depth. Over the years, she became one of Punjabi cinema’s most popular stars, delivering hits like Nikka Zaildar, Carry On Jatta 3, and Sardaar Ji. Alongside her regional success, Sonam ventured into Hindi cinema with films like Street Dancer 3D and Karam Yuddh, and appeared in Tamil and Telugu projects as well. She was last seen in Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 5 and is waiting for the release of Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat on 21 October.

‘After The Hunt’s Luca Guadagnino On Film’s Power & Desire Dynamics

by jummy84 October 11, 2025
written by jummy84

Luca Guadagnino, director of Amazon MGM Studios‘ picture After The Hunt, has revealed what drew him to the debut script of Nora Garrett.

After The Hunt follows a college professor (Julia Roberts) who finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a star pupil (Ayo Edebiri) levels an accusation against one of her colleagues (Andrew Garfield), and a dark secret from her own past threatens to come to light.

Guadagnino regular Michael Stuhlbarg and Chloë Sevigny also star along with Lío Mehiel, Thaddea Graham, Will Price, Christine Dye, and Burgess Byrd.

Appearing on stage at Deadline’s Contenders London event on Saturday, the Oscar-nominated Italian director said the dynamics of power and desire were appealing to him. He recalled reading Garrett’s script for the first time on a flight.

“It struck me the way in which Nora could bring together a very particular story in a very specific place, and make it a stage for idiosyncrasies and impulses that could speak to everybody,” he explained.

Garrett, an actress who has appeared in Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, said it was “difficult to put into words” how grateful she was that Guadagnino took on the project after his previous work on films like Call Me by Your Name and Challengers.

Unpacking the ambition behind the story, she said: “I was really interested in someone who had such a powerful mechanism of self-denialism, and that mechanism is what supported their effort towards external success in a way that was powerful and propulsive, but hampered them in an emotional integrity way.”

Cinematographer Malik Hassan Sayeed said they wanted After the Hunt to feel like it was shot in the 1980s, using a single lens and other technology from that time. “He’s [Guadagnino] very precise and masterful at his craft, and I think it was an amazing pairing for us,” Hassan Sayeed said.

Guadagnino praised casting director Jessica Ronane for her “astonishing” work in balancing a cast that was “so wide and deep.” Roanne said it was a “great responsibility and a great thrill” to work on the movie.

After The Hunt premiered on October 10.
