Finite Films & TV Hires Paddy Hughes In Original Branded Content Push

by jummy84 December 15, 2025
written by jummy84

EXCLUSIVE: British producer Finite Films & TV has appointed Paddy Hughes as Creative Director to shepherd a slate of original branded content.

The BAFTA-nominated Director and Producer – who has worked in television, subscription streaming, digital and commercial content for 20 years – will work alongside Finite founder and executive producer Amy Gardner, and oversee and develop original content partnerships with brands, including projects for digital-first platforms.

Hughes has produced and directed factual entertainment, documentaries and scripted programming for leading distributors such as the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Disney and Sky. He has worked as a producer and director for the likes of Little Dot Studios, Future Studios and Cowshed Collective.

He has also landed series commissions for UK and U.S. channels such as BBC3 and Fullscreen, the latter being 2015 short-form scripted sitcom Jack&Dean of All Trades, starring Jack Howard and Dean Dobbs with Jessica Hynes. In 2018, he was nominated for a BAFTA for BBC3’s Eating with My Ex.

This year, he has focused on branded entertainment for Channel 4, and working with Left Bank Pictures to develop a digital drama slate and strategy. He also founded Romalo Film&Creative, a production start-up servicing branded production, YouTube and films.

His hire comes after Finite launched an unscripted division, with celebrity competition series Wings & Waves, made in partnership with global sportswear brand North Sails. Hughes will seek to strike similar partnerships in his role.

“Paddy brings an extraordinary level of experience and creative vision,” said Gardner. “His passion for premium storytelling and knowledge of brand-driven content aligns perfectly with our ambitions, and his appointment signals an exciting next phase for growing our branded slate.”

“My career has taken me from traditional television into the fast and ever evolving world of digital and branded content,” added Hughes. “Finite have some really interesting clients and I’m excited to shape genre busting work that pushes creative boundaries.”

Finite’s scripted slate features the psychological horror, The Fears, from Doctor Who director Andrew Gunn, and Ben & Lucy, starring Steven Cree and directed by Cora Bissett. It will co-produce the first English-language feature film from director Anu Menon, titled Two of Us, alongside Bright Pictures. The company recently attached writer Sophia Al-Maria to its TV series The Many Lives of Miss K.

Letterboxd VOD Platform Video Store Reveals First Films

by jummy84 December 8, 2025
written by jummy84

After years of documenting the viewing habits of cinephiles everywhere, Letterboxd is entering the distribution world. On December 10, the site will launch Video Store, a new VOD platform that allows users to rent a curated selection of movies curated by the Letterboxd team.

With Video Store debuting on Wednesday, Letterboxd has answered some of our questions about the previously announced platform. Video Store will use a transactional video-on-demand (TVOD) model, in which users pay to watch individual movies without any subscription fee. The product will launch in 23 countries, and the app will be available on iOS, Android, web browsers, and a variety of smart TVs.

'Cronos' (1993)

The first nine films will be arranged into two “shelves”: Unreleased Gems, consisting of recent festival favorites that previously did not have distribution; and Lost & Found, which is comprised of previously lost or newly restored classics.

Notable titles include Todd Haynes’ 1991 debut feature “Poison,” Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s “Before We Vanish,” and 2025 SXSW premiere “It Ends.”

“Weʼre incredibly proud of what we and our community have built,ˮ Letterboxd CEO and co-founder Matthew Buchanan said in a statement. “We take their lead, and believe that has been integral to Letterboxdʼs success. They tell us what’s really happening — a 1980s action film suddenly trending, a festival title from two years ago still being added to watchlists.”

He continued, “Video Store lets us act on that real demand, whether itʼs helping a distributor unlock value from a forgotten gem in its vault or giving a filmmaker direct access to the audience theyʼve been building on our platform. Itʼs our way of saying to the industry: letʼs harness this interest to get films to the people who want them most.ˮ

Keep reading for the full slate of titles launching on Video Store, with language provided by Letterboxd.

UNRELEASED GEMS

“It Ends” (2025) – Director Alexander Ullom’s directorial debut about recent grads trapped on an infinite, nightmarish backroad made waves when it premiered at SXSW 2025, going on to win Best First Feature at Fantasia International Film Festival and the Narrative Feature Grand Jury Award at the Atlanta Film Festival.

“Sore: A Wife from the Future” (2025) – Director Yandy Laurens’ inventive time-loop sci-fi romance about a woman who travels back in time to change her husband’s destiny received eight nominations at the 2025 Indonesian Film Festival, including Best Picture, and has been selected as Indonesia’s submission for the Best International Feature Film for the upcoming Academy Awards.

LOST & FOUND

“Tiger on the Beat” (1988) – This legendary 1988 action-comedy starring Chow Yun-Fat and directed by Lau Kar-Leung remains a beloved classic of Hong Kong cinema. For most of the world, this is the first opportunity to see the new 4K restoration—a digital exclusive to Letterboxd at launch.

This brand new 4K restoration premieres digitally, celebrating the late director’s uncompromising vision that faced censorship under the Marcos regime.

“It Must Be Heaven” (2019) – This comedy won both the Special Mention from the Main Competition Jury and FIPRESCI Prize at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, but its theatrical release was delayed for over a year due to the pandemic, limiting its reach despite widespread praise. . Suleiman’s distinctive visual satire continues his acclaimed tradition of observational comedy that speaks to universal themes of displacement and belonging.

“Poison” (1991) – This groundbreaking film won the Grand Jury Prize at the 1991 Sundance Film Festival and became a lightning rod in the culture wars, with conservative politicians attempting to defund the NEA over its support. The first feature from future Oscar nominee Todd Haynes established him as a fearless voice in independent cinema.

“Before We Vanish” (2017) – Based on a cult Japanese stage play, master filmmaker Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s alien invasion story screened in Un Certain Regard at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, showcasing the acclaimed director’s distinctive take on the genre.

6 Women-Centric Films That Powerfully Showcase The Strength Of Female-Led Cinema

by jummy84 December 7, 2025
written by jummy84

The nationwide momentum around HAQ has officially positioned the film as one of the year’s most significant social-justice successes both critically and commercially. With its continued performance and cultural traction, HAQ demonstrates that women-led, rights-focused narratives are culturally urgent. Produced by Junglee Pictures, in association with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios, HAQ extends the studio’s long-standing commitment to socially impactful storytelling. Starring Yami Gautam Dhar and Emraan Hashmi, the film’s gripping courtroom narrative has struck a nationwide chord, igniting conversations across audience segments, media circles, and policy spaces alike. The film is directed by Suparn S Varma and written by Reshu Nath. HAQ now enters the landscape shaped by women-centred successes and films that proved that authentic, grounded stories can deliver both emotional resonance and broad commercial reach.

6 Women-Centric Films That Powerfully Showcase The Strength Of Female-Led Cinema

Laapataa Ladies

This film uses humane humour and gentle satire to tell the story of two young brides who get accidentally swapped on a train. It subtly and powerfully champions female agency and identity by exploring the lives of women who have once been lost, find an unexpected opportunity for self-discovery outside the confines of patriarchy.

Jigra

This film centres around the fierce, protective bond between a sister and her younger brother. The plot is driven by the sister’s dangerous and unwavering resolve to rescue her brother when he is wrongfully imprisoned and sentenced to death in a foreign country with strict laws. It highlights the lengths a woman will go to for her family.

Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway

This film is based on a true story about an Indian mother whose children are taken away by the Norwegian Child Welfare Services due to cultural differences in parenting. It is a powerful narrative of a mother’s relentless, global fight against a foreign system to reclaim her children, highlighting the trauma of cultural alienation and bureaucratic insensitivity.

Panga

A heartwarming sports drama centred on a former Kabaddi world champion, now a loving wife and mother, who decides to stage a comeback to the sport years after retiring. The film celebrates a woman’s ambition, identity, and the importance of a supportive family that enables her to chase her deferred dreams.

Thappad

A cultural milestone that confronts the normalisation of domestic violence, even in its most subtle forms. The film follows a seemingly happy homemaker whose world shatters when her ambitious husband slaps her publicly at a party. Her decision to seek a divorce forces her family and the audience to question the fundamental nature of respect and equality within a marriage. It confronted normalised violence and sparked debate nationwide.

Haq

A courtroom drama inspired by the landmark 1985 judgment of the Supreme Court. The film talks about a woman who seeks justice for herself and her 3 children. When her husband divorces her and stops paying maintenance, it leads to a legal battle that explores women’s rights within personal faith, social customs, and civil law.

With HAQ, Junglee Pictures adds yet another title to its catalogue of high-impact cinema. The studio’s dedication to socially relevant narratives like Raazi, Badhai Ho, and Badhai Do finds renewed validation as the film’s commercial and cultural traction continue to grow.

As its theatrical run continues to build momentum, HAQ stands tall as a defining victory for socially fearless storytelling and ignites the bigger conversations on the Uniform Civil Code. The need for establishing one law for all religions so that justice is served equally to all. It doesn’t just join the country’s growing wave of robust, justice-driven cinema; it raises the stakes and sets a new benchmark for what women-led narratives can achieve at the Indian box office.

Quentin Tarantino Films Cut 'Kill Bill' Scene in Fortnite

Quentin Tarantino Films Cut ‘Kill Bill’ Scene in Fortnite

by jummy84 November 30, 2025
written by jummy84

If you thought Quentin Tarantino didn’t have even more to add to “Kill Bill” and make the film any longer, think again.

Tarantino is set to release possibly his greatest movie, “Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair,” which is a four-plus-hour cut of “Kill Bill” combined as one film, in theaters next month. It includes an un-seen anime sequence that wasn’t even in the original Cannes cut of “Kill Bill,” but that wasn’t the only thing he had previously left on the cutting room floor.

There was yet another chapter of the film that Tarantino wrote for the very first draft of his film, but he trimmed it and the sequence was never filmed. Now, more than 20 years after the release of both “Kill Bill” movies, Tarantino has turned to an unusual means to bring his vision of this lost “Kill Bill” scene to life: the massively popular video game “Fortnite.”

ZOOTOPIA 2, from left: Nick Wilde (voice: Jason Bateman), Judy Hopps (voice: Ginnifer Goodwin), 2025. © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures / Courtesy Everett Collection

Tarantino using “Fortnite’s” game engine Unreal Engine directed a motion-captured short film that reunites him with Uma Thurman, reprising her role as The Bride. The sequence effectively fills in a gap in the lore of “Kill Bill” that had not previously been seen on screen. So yes, even though the short features Fortnite’s banana character Peely, this new short can be considered canon in Tarantino’s cinematic universe.

The short is called “The Lost Chapter: Yuki’s Revenge,” and is set after the Bride takes down the ball-and-chain wielding killer Gogo Yubari. Now, we see the Bride battle Yubari’s twin sister Yuki. After a split-screen sequence of Yuki arriving in Hollywood “Battlewood” and even surveilling The Bride outside Vernita Green’s home, Yuki confronts The Bride, still driving the Pussy Wagon truck, and aims to gun her down.

Battlewood in ‘Fortnite: After Dark’

What ensues is an elaborate shoot-em-up and car chase in which Yuki, in this version, ultimately dies not a bloody death but a blue, pixel-y one before she’s beamed up and set to be respawned, “Fortnite” style.

Unlike an animated sequence that just features Thurman’s voice, Tarantino is actually directing Thurman as dressed and photographed with a motion-capture helmet cam, and her performance and the whole sequence was rendered in Unreal Engine as though it were an in-game cinematic.

“Fortnite” intends to premiere “Yuki’s Revenge” as part of its latest season of gameplay, Chapter 7. “Fortnite” for this new season has a Hollywood theme, and rather than stage a virtual concert in the digital “Fortnite” lobbies as they’ve done before, the “Yuki’s Revenge” scene acts as a brand-new Quentin Tarantino film making its world premiere in the game. Players who log on can watch the film on November 30 at 2 p.m. ET.

Speaking at a special “Fortnite” event from Tarantino’s own Vista Theater in Los Angeles on November 19, Tarantino explained that the reason the Yuki fight scene was cut from his draft was because the movie was already shaping up to be over four hours long, and it was too much to have both the Gogo Yubari battle and the Yuki battle in the same film.

‘Fortnite: After Dark’

He clarified that, even though the fight was cut from the film, in his mind, we’re to assume the fight still happened as part of The Bride’s journey, even though we never saw it. In fact, an actual take used in “Kill Bill” outside Vernita’s home has the sound of an ice cream truck jingle in the background, and Tarantino used that take to suggest that someone, in this case Yuki, was secretly watching The Bride all along.

Tarantino was asked at the event if he would ever consider making another film in “Fortnite” or utilizing some other animation techniques in order to create some of the spinoff ideas he’s been teasing over the years, and he suggested there could be some future where it helps him craft an origin story for Bill or a side project about the Vega brothers as seen in “Reservoir Dogs” and “Pulp Fiction.”

While it means that we’ll soon see players running around “Fortnite” Battle Royales in skins as The Bride or Gogo Yubari, Tarantino praised the “Fortnite” team for wanting to help him create something he had lingering, rather than have him come up with something entirely new that featured some of his iconic characters.

“I always wanted it to see the light of day, and now it has,” Tarantino said at the event.

Rolling Stone Films and Documentary+ Acquire The Spiritual Advisor

by jummy84 November 13, 2025
written by jummy84

Rolling Stone Films and Documentary+ have acquired “The Spiritual Advisor,” a 23-minute documentary that will premiere at DOC NYC on November 16 at the IFC Center. The film, directed by Joel Fendelman and produced by James Chase Sanchez, follows Rev. Jeff Hood, a priest and death-penalty activist who serves as a spiritual advisor to death row inmates.

Filmed over five days in September 2024, the documentary tracks Hood as he travels to Oklahoma to advocate for clemency for Emmanuel Littlejohn, a man scheduled for execution. The film is based on the March 2025 Rolling Stone story “The Last Face Death Row Inmates See” by Brenna Ehrlich (you can read it right here).

Sirāt

The documentary captures Hood’s work on two fronts: attempting to prevent the execution while simultaneously preparing Littlejohn for death if the clemency effort fails. Fendelman’s camera follows Hood through prison visits, prayer sessions, and meetings with state officials.

Hood, an Old Catholic priest based in Little Rock, has been arrested multiple times for his activism against capital punishment. In 2024, he served as spiritual advisor to Kenneth Smith, who was executed in Alabama using nitrogen gas — the state’s first execution by that method.

“Joel Fendelman has crafted a film that examines the intersection of belief, justice, and conscience,” said Alexandra Dale, Head of Rolling Stone Films, in an official statement.

Fendelman previously directed “Man on Fire” in 2017. The new documentary was produced by A Pound of Snow Productions in association with Rolling Stone Films and Documentary+. After its premiere at DOC NYC, “The Spiritual Advisor” will stream early next year on Rolling Stone’s website and YouTube channel.

Rolling Stone Films’ recent work includes “Little Richard: I Am Everything,” which won an Emmy for Outstanding Arts & Culture Documentary in 2023.

From laugh-out-loud comedies, college dramas to intense ensemble stories, Sharman’s contribution to memorable films is incredible.

7 Films That Prove Why Sharman Joshi Is A Scene-Stealer

Rang De Basanti

Before ‘3 Idiots’ became a game-changing tale of youth stories, Sharman Joshi’s Sukhi from ‘Rang De Basanti’ did the job by bringing humour and heart to the film. His rapport with Aamir Khan and the gang felt so real that even today, we’d all like to be a part of that group!

3 Idiots

We all loved Sharman Joshi’s portrayal of Raju Rastogi! His outing of a simple, struggling student navigating life’s pressures struck a chord with the audience. The sincerity he brought to the character and the dialogue delivery made Raju Rastogi truly unforgettable.

Life In A… Metro

Sharman Joshi, known for bringing unmatched sincerity to his performances, proved to be the right fit for ‘Life in a…Metro’, a slice-of-life film that explored urban loneliness. As Rahul Dhupia, he proved his drive to balance intensity and emotional depth, and it worked!

Golmaal

8 Rom-com Films of Varun Dhawan for Your Next Movie Night

by jummy84 November 7, 2025
written by jummy84

Romantic comedies hold a special place in Bollywood. They promise joy, laughter and a decent dose of heartwarming moments. Arguably, no modern Bollywood actor embodies that spirit better than Varun Dhawan. His easy charisma, infectious comic timing and heart-on-his-sleeve performances has made him the face of 21st-century Hindi rom-coms. From his debut performance in Student of the Year to Badrinath Ki Dulhania and the family-centric warmth of Jug Jugg Jeeyo, the actor’s journey through the genre has been remarkable. He has played the role of the playful college boy to the responsible and grown-up lover.

1. Student of the Year (2012)

Rom-com fans love Rohan Nanda. Every star needs a perfect launchpad and for Varun Dhawan, it came in the form of Karan Johar’s glossy and youth-driven Student of the Year. The confident and stylish rich kid with a vulnerable heart made an unforgettable first impression. The film was a celebration of friendship, rivalry and first love. Varun’s character wore designer outfits and rocked in dance competitions. His chemistry with Alia Bhatt was playful yet sincere and hinted at the strong on-screen partnerships they would later share.

2. Main Tera Hero (2014)

Varun Dhawan

Two years later, Varun turned the volume up with Main Tera Hero. Interestingly, the movie was directed by his father, David Dhawan, the king of 90s slapstick romance. Varun channelled the manic energy of Govinda and Salman Khan with his own youthful twist. As Seenu, the mischievous small-town boy with big-city ambitions, he danced through chaos and confusion involving not one, but two -leading ladies. The co-stars included Ileana D’Cruz and Nargis Fakhri. The film’s humour was deliberately over-the-top and Varun owned every bit of it.

3. Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014)

Varun Dhawan

Released in the same year, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania showed an entirely different side of Varun. He wasn’t the loud prankster anymore. Humpty was an endearing Delhi boy hopelessly in love with the strong-willed Kavya (Alia Bhatt). The boy-meets-girl story felt rooted in everyday life.

Varun’s character was relatable. He played a man who was flawed but full of heart. He was willing to stand up to tradition for love. His crackling chemistry with Alia Bhatt gave the film its emotional pulse. Together, they created one of the decade’s most loved screen pairs. The movie proved to be a simple story with warmth and relatability.

4. Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017)

Varun Dhawan

If Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania was about fun and heart, Badrinath Ki Dulhania brought in doses of maturity. Varun played the role of Badri. He is a small-town man raised in a patriarchal environment. Varun explored a new kind of romantic hero. He is one who learns and grows through love. Opposite Alia Bhatt’s fiercely independent Vaidehi, Badri’s journey from entitled lover to understanding partner became a reflection of changing gender dynamics in India. What could have been a frothy rom-com instead became a story that teaches empathy and respect.

Varun was able to balance humour and intensity with ease. The film cemented his reputation not just as a bankable rom-com star but as an actor unafraid of evolving. It remains one of the few mainstream Bollywood romances that combine entertainment with social awareness.

5. Dilwale (2015)

Varun Dhawan

While Dilwale is remembered primarily as the reunion of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, Varun Dhawan’s presence added a refreshing youthfulness to the mix. As Veer, the younger brother of SRK’s character, he brought charm, humour and a bright spark of romance opposite Kriti Sanon. The film’s scale was massive! The fast cars, exotic locales and sweeping emotions were larger-than-life. Amidst all, Varun managed to carve out his own space within the ensemble. His track offered a lighter, more playful romantic energy that balanced the film’s dramatic core.

6. Judwaa 2 (2017)

Varun Dhawan

A reboot of his father’s and Salman Khan’s iconic Judwaa, this film brought Varun into full-blown entertainer territory. Playing twins Raja and Prem, one street-smart, one soft-spoken, he delivered a performance brimming with old-school comedy and cheeky romance. Rom-com elements ran throughout the film, with Varun’s interactions with Jacqueliene Fernandez and Taapsee Pannu adding sparkle to the chaos. While critics were divided, audiences loved the nostalgia and the unabashed humour.

7. Jug Jugg Jeeyo (2022)

Varun Dhawan

A decade after his debut, Varun Dhawan’s rom-com persona had matured and Jug Jugg Jeeyo reflected that growth. Here, he played Kuku, a married man facing the complexities of love after the honeymoon phase fades.

Set against the backdrop of family weddings and intergenerational relationships, the film explored how love evolves with time. It was witty yet grounded and funny yet reflective. Varun’s chemistry with Kiara Advani felt fresh. Moreover, his interactions with senior co-stars like Neetu Kapoor and Anil Kapoor were widely praised.

Interestingly, Jug Jugg Jeeyo shows Varun Dhawan in a more grounded and emotionally aware avatar. He still maintains his funny person but he appears more human than ever.

8. Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari (2025)

Varun Dhawan

Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari had generated massive buzz as a return to Varun’s rom-com roots. Directed by Shashank Khaitan, the man behind the Dulhania films, the movie promised to blend classic romance with contemporary flair and it delivered.

For fans, this project feels like a full-circle moment: Varun reuniting with the genre that defined his stardom. In this movie, Varun starred alongside Janhvi Kapoor Rohit Saraf, Sanya Malhotra and Maniesh Paul.

More than a decade into his career, Varun Dhawan stands as one of Bollywood’s most dependable romantic-comedy star. He is a performer who can make audiences laugh, cry and dance all within the same film. His filmography is an example in how to keep a genre vibrant without letting it stagnate.
