Karan Johar Opens Up About Feeling Lonely After National Award Win

by jummy84 November 8, 2025
written by jummy84

Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar is a single parent to twins Yash and Roohi. However, in a recent podcast with Sania Mirza on Serving It Up with Sania, Karan discussed feeling lonely without a romantic partner. He recalled how, when he went to receive his National Award in Delhi, he was asked about his plus one, and he had nobody.

Karan shared that he is currently single and, referring to the song “Har Kisiko Nahi Milta Pyaar Zindagi Mein,” expressed his feelings of loneliness regarding the absence of a partner in his life. He said, “You feel the loneliest in your highs and not your lows. In your lows, you have your family, friends, parents and kids. I have two cousin sisters I am very close to, and I have my best friends. But in your highs, what do you do? I remember I got a call that I was getting a National Award. I hung up the call, and for one minute all I thought about was, ‘What do I do tonight? Whose house do I go to? Whose hand do I hold? A little pat on the back, I needed and wanted to feel happy.”

He added, “When I went to the awards, they asked me who my plus one was, and I had no one. Everybody was coming with their partners, and my mum was not well enough to travel, and my kids were too young. It hits you hard. I do get lonely and, on many nights when I am eating alone, I don’t go to my dining table. I eat in my room so I can dilute the loneliness. But they say never say never, and when it happens, I am standing with my arms wide open like Shah Rukh Khan.”

Karan further shared that the feeling of loneliness is particularly felt around New Year’s, a time when many celebrate with their partners. He copes by venting his frustration about his single status to his single friends and consciously avoids social outings with couples. He light-heartedly added that he has an impulse to “kill” those who engage in PDA when he is present.

Karan was honoured with a National Award this year for Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani in the category of Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. This film marked his return to directing after a nine-year hiatus.

Fortis gastroenterologist shares the best breakfast for weight loss: ‘Keeps you feeling full throughout the day’

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, as what you eat replenishes your body and provides nutrients to kickstart the day. What you eat also sets the tone for the day you will have. A healthy breakfast provides energy, whereas an unhealthy one leads to energy crashes.

Eating this breakfast will help drop your hunger, reduce cravings, and overall calorie intake goes down. (Freepik)

But what if you are trying to lose weight? What could be the best breakfast in such a scenario? Dr Shubham Vatsya, a gastroenterologist and hepatologist at Fortis Hospital Vasant Kunj, with over 10 years of experience, shared the best breakfast option for when you are trying to shed kilos. Let’s find out.

What is the best breakfast for weight loss?

Dr Vatsya, in a post titled, ‘Best breakfast for weight loss’, revealed a simple, fibre-rich meal that can help you feel satiated throughout the day. According to the gastroenterologist, the perfect weight-loss breakfast meal is curd with chia seeds or basil seeds. “Simple, tasty, and genuinely effective for fat loss,” he wrote. Here’s why:

  • Curd gives probiotics for a healthier gut, and seeds add fibre that keeps you full longer.
  • Your hunger levels drop, cravings decrease, and overall calorie intake decreases.

Explaining further, Dr Vatsya said, “If you have trouble with weight loss and a problem with feeling hungry, you should consume chia seeds or basil seeds with curd.”

Why should you have chia or basil seeds with curd?

He stressed that, firstly, after consuming chia or basil seeds with curd in the morning, you will notice a difference in your life from the very first meal because they provide you with probiotics.

Furthermore, highlighting how these seeds help keep one full longer, Dr Vatsya explained, “Chia seeds provide you with fibre in a very condensed form, which keeps you feeling full throughout the day.” This, in turn, leads to a decrease in your daily calorie intake.

Lastly, the gastroenterologist suggested trying this breakfast for thirty days. “You will genuinely see that you stay full for at least four hours. You might stop eating the parathas you used to have for breakfast,” he added.

Feeling stressed? 5 types of calming music you need to put on your playlist

by jummy84 November 2, 2025
written by jummy84

Has music felt like a warm hug when you are feeling low? Whether it is the nostalgic beat you listened to as a kid or the latest go-to heartbreak song that sums up your current situation better than you ever could, music has a comforting way of alleviating your stress, lowering the intensity of your feelings and uplifting you. It’s almost like a friend who understands you without needing words. Sometimes you just need someone to sit with you, music is that- whether before a big presentation or at night, unwinding with it.

Music can help calm your mind. (Picture credit: Freepik)

HT Lifestyle reached out to experts to understand why music is efficient in regulating emotions and which ones help in stress relief.

How does music reduce your anxiety?

As soon as you play your favourite tune, your mood lifts. (Picture credit: Freepik)
As soon as you play your favourite tune, your mood lifts. (Picture credit: Freepik)

There’s a scientific reason behind why music lifts mood. Dr Ajit Dandekar, head of mental health (psychiatry and psychology) at Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital in Mumbai, told us music has been used as an ‘anxiolytic.’ The power of music to lower anxiety is such that it has been serving as a complementary aid for anxiety reduction.

One hack if you have nerve-wrecking anxiety before a big event? Dr Dandekar suggested listening to music. “Listening to music before, during or after a major event such as medical procedures, physical activities, or important professional tasks reduces anxiety significantly,” he said.

Long before one even understands what music is, music is a part of their lives. Dr Dandekar reminded that lullabies have low-frequency sounds which sound calming. A mother’s soft humming becomes the baby’s first encounter with music, calming their discomfort.

Moreover, as per the psychiatrist, music helps to calm down ‘body’s built-in alarm system.’

“Music plays a key role in calming the body’s built-in alarm system. When people listen to the music of their choice, their brain’s control centres ease the bodily functions, lowering the heartbeat and easing the ‘fight or flight’ state,” he explained, referring to how the nervous system reacts to stress. Normally, when one is anxious or stressed, the body turns on the fight or flight response, making the heart beat faster, and breathing quickens. It is the body’s way of telling you are in danger.

Music helps to calm down the physiological stress response. Dr Dandekar elaborated further, “Music turns on the brain’s reward circuits, leading to the release of dopamine and endorphins. That’s why many people feel the chill while listening to a particularly favourite section of their song.”

Likewise, when people sing together, whether at a karaoke or a concert, the psychiatrist highlighted that they feel connected.

But again, music is highly subjective. Dr Dandekar cautioned that sometimes fast, intense music can have an opposite effect, pushing the stress hormones and causing anxiety. Hence, one should stick to the rhythm and music they are comfortable with.

Here’s one important thing Dr Dandekar stressed that while music has undeniable therapeutic value, it is not a replacement for actual clinical therapy. “Music can be an aid, not the treatment itself. So if you are suffering from any mental health disorder, do not try to replace the recommended drugs or therapies with music,” he said. Music is a complementary tool to support your mental health, but not the primary route to recovery. It may regulate emotions, but proper guidance comes from a counsellor or psychiatrist.

5 types of calming music

Musicians and sound wellness facilitators Kamakshi and Vishala, founders of The Sound Space, shared with us which types of music are soothing and help in stress relief.

According to them, the calming sounds are rooted in certain frequencies, tempos, beats, rhythm and percussion that gently guide the mind into a soothing balance.

Kamkshi and Vishala revealed a brief guide, highlighting 5 types of calming music, along with explaining why they work and what they work best for:

1. Indian classical alap

  • What it is: It is the slow, introspective opening of a raga. It is free from rhythm or percussion. Specific ragas for mental peace, like Raga Yaman or Raga Darbari, are also aligned with specific times of day for optimal effect.
  • How it works: The alap allows for deep pauses, space between notes, and emotional resonance. Its frequencies typically range from 200–800 Hz, promoting calm brainwave activity and gentle emotional release.
  • Best used for: Meditation, nighttime listening, and emotional clarity.

2. Lo-Fi (low fidelity) beats

  • What it is: Lo-fi music has become a favourite among students and professionals looking for calm music for concentration. It features simple chord progressions, mellow beats, and ambient noise like vinyl crackles, all of which mimic nostalgia and reduce mental tension.
  • How it works: With a tempo of 60–90 BPM, lo-fi closely mirrors a relaxed heartbeat. Its predictability and lack of lyrics make it an excellent tool for maintaining focus without overstimulation.
  • Best used for: Working, studying, and creative thinking.

3. Binaural beats

  • What it is: Binaural beats are created by playing two slightly different frequencies in each ear, which your brain interprets as a third frequency.
  • How it works: For relaxation, alpha waves (8–14 Hz) are commonly used. For deep meditation, theta waves (4–8 Hz) can be helpful. It is like a sonic brain training that nudges the mind into a peaceful rhythm.
  • Best used for: Guided meditation, pre-sleep winding down, and deep breathing.

4. Nature soundscapes

  • What it is: Nature-inspired music for relaxation can have profound effects on mental health. The nervous system is hardwired to recognise these sounds as ‘safe,’ activating the parasympathetic response. For example: ocean waves, birdsong, or gentle rain.
  • How it works: These ambient tracks often fall between 100–600 Hz, and unlike typical music, there’s no melody or rhythm to anticipate—reducing mental overactivity and improving mindfulness.
  • Best used for: Sleep, restorative yoga, calming children.

5. 432 Hz music

  • What it is: 432 Hz is often described as warmer, softer, and more emotionally resonant. The tuning is popular in Indian flute music for meditation
  • How it works: Improved emotional balance and reduced anxiety.
  • Best used for: Energy clearing, deep meditation, or morning intention-setting.

Steve Barton Explains Feeling Cheated by ‘Terrifier’

by jummy84 November 1, 2025
written by jummy84

Actress Catherine Corcoran just took her breach of contract dispute with “Terrifier” director Damien Leone and producer Phil Falcone to a Los Angeles federal court on Sunday. But allegations that the filmmaking duo has been bullying “Terrifier” contributors out of their fair credit and compensation predate Corcoran’s new claim. Several accusers point to disagreements over “Terrifier” merchandising, a critical element in the pending legal case that may jeopardize the future of the lucrative slasher series.

“It doesn’t surprise me,” said an anonymous source who worked at Dread Presents, the in-house movie studio for the horror brand Dread Central, which released the first “Terrifier” in 2018. “Damien’s a strong personality. I have respect for him. He’s nice enough in person, but when it comes to doing business, he’s savage.”

A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge

“I don’t buy the excuse that they’re from New York or New Jersey or whatever,” said another, who also worked at Dread Presents then. Asked about the sexual harassment alleged in the new lawsuit (Falcone is accused by name of photographing Corcoran nude without her consent while she was stuck in a special effects rig), he said, “I’m inclined to believe Catherine. It seems like something Phil could do.”

Falcone and Leone have denied the allegations in Corcoran’s claim through The Hollywood Reporter. They did not respond to IndieWire’s request for comment on the additional allegations, despite repeated requests to get in contact with Leone, Falcone, and their defense attorney.

The steel book release for ‘Terrifier’ (2016) — sold for $49.99

Dread Central’s parent company, Epic Pictures, acquired Leone’s lo-fi horror film in 2017 ahead of their new label’s official launch the next year. That was at the height of the #MeToo movement, when “Terrifier” was not popular with everyone inside the company, according to four ex-employees who said Dread was mostly run by women then. They were supported by several men at Dread who reportedly “hated” the movie and specifically took issue with its centerpiece kill featuring Corcoran, as IndieWire learned.

“I almost quit my first week at Dread Central Presents because I was like, ‘Well, this is misogynist crap and I don’t like it at all. If that is what this label is going to be, then I’m not the right person for this position,” said one source. As seen in the first “Terrifier,” the brutal murder of Dawn (Corcoran) — stripped naked, hung upside-down, and sawed in half from vagina to face — is widely considered the spark that ignited “Terrifier” mania as we know it today. The moment is so shocking it demands to be talked about, and it created buzz that spread far beyond the film’s world premiere at the 2016 Telluride Horror Show.

“The irony is Steve was right,” said the same ex-Dread Central source. That source still doesn’t like the “Terrifier” movies but acknowledges his former colleague, the brand’s co-founder and the site’s former editor-in-chief Steve Barton, as integral to their success. “It obviously became a huge franchise, and I always give him credit for that. I didn’t see it, and I didn’t want to see it, but he was definitely responsible for that one.”

Last year, Barton — who has gone by “Uncle Creepy” online for years — released a memoir titled “A Comedy of Tragedies.” In it, Barton discusses one of his most complicated achievements: getting the naysayers inside Dread and the wary Epic folks who’d just met them to back “Terrifier.”

“I launched a fucking juggernaut,” Barton told IndieWire in a recent interview. “But I was stupid enough to not get anything in writing. So, that’s my fault.”

(Left to right): Phil Falcone, ‘Terrifier’ actor Elliot Fullam, Damien Leone, actor Kevin Smith, and Steve Barton at a special ‘Terrifier 2’ screening Barton says he organized

Barton is the first to admit he isn’t owed much here legally, but the seasoned genre vet threw his social media reputation and industry connections he’d spent decades building behind “Terrifier.” He said he never asked Leone and Falcone for money, but helped the indie as it was starting to build word of mouth. A similar argument is being made by Corcoran’s legal team, who say they’ve got a written deal on their client’s side that entitles her to 1 percent of “Terrifier” profits across all revenue generated by the franchise.

“My vision for Dread Central was to give the indie filmmaker as much of a voice as the studio filmmaker and level that playing field,” said Barton, speaking to headwinds that have long plagued “Terrifier.” The 2011 short that inspired the feature franchise was also included in Leone’s 2013 anthology film “All Hallow’s Eve,” which gained a lower level of notoriety for the image of a woman kidnapped by Art the Clown (the role was originated by Mike Giannelli) — then kept alive as her limbs and breasts are hacked off. The words “cunt,” “bitch,” “slut,” and “pig” appeared carved into her bare body.

An established name and face in the genre landscape when it wasn’t clear if Art (now played by David Howard Thornton) could ever find a mainstream audience, Barton championed “Terrifier” loudly for several years. The first film was made on a shoestring budget of just $35,000 and funded by producer Falcone after he worked with Leone on his own directorial debut, titled “Joe’s War” (2015). Leone and Falcone have since gained a reputation in the horror world as a fearsome twosome with several sources describing them as “ride or die” partners who earnestly “love” each other. Some say, to a fault.

“Of all the filmmakers I worked with, I loved all of them except the ‘Terrifier’ guys,” said one of the ex-Dread sources. “They’re the only ones that were completely uncooperative every step of the way.”

“Phil is very much Damien’s shield in a lot of ways,” said Barton. “I don’t say that in a bad way. I say that in a very fatherly way. I think Phil really cares about Damien, and Damien knows Phil feels that way about him. In a lot of ways, Phil is the tail that wags the dog. One of the last things I said to Damien was, ‘I always loved you guys. I always will love you guys, but mark my words, Phil is going to sink this ship.’”

Across “Terrifier” (2018), “Terrifier 2” (2022), and “Terrifier 3” (2024), Barton watched as the beloved black-and-white clown became a global phenomenon, but the multi-hyphenate professional was only involved in promoting the first two films. The sequels were released at Cineverse, exploding as eventized theatrical releases that made millions at the box office and firmly established Art as the first serious addition to slasher head canon since “Saw.” Depending on who you ask, Dread either couldn’t stay competitive in the bidding war for “Terrifier 2” — or Leone didn’t want them to.

“We totally fumbled the ball on theatrical,” said an anonymous source integral to the “Terrifier” release at Dread Presents. “We put it out on 10 screens and that was kind of it.” But even foregoing most movie theaters, “Terrifier” wasn’t a flop. It repeatedly sold out as a Blu-ray release (marked at $19.99), and it even merited a steelbook edition (priced at $49.99), both of which bear Corcoran’s image and the controversial sawing scene on the packaging.

“I can’t remember a single other Dread title that we needed a second [Blu-ray] order of, and we needed several for ‘Terrifier,’” said the same source, who recalled needing all hands on deck to fill physical media orders fast enough. “It’s the only one that we exceeded our 1,000-order minimum — at least several times over. We could not print enough. It became evidently clear that it was going to be huge, probably the biggest release for us.”

The alternate cover for the ‘Terrifier’ (2016) Blu-ray release

Simultaneously, Barton was pushing the film’s reputation hard online. He used the recognizable Dread Central brand and his own media personality to introduce audiences to a new director he thought would be a lifelong friend. Speaking with IndieWire, he recalled feeling responsible for “Terrifier” viewers even as his own position in the franchise’s history became less clear.

“I made sure that the fan base, they weren’t just on this ride with us,” Barton said. “They were in the fucking car next to us.”

Egos abound in Hollywood, and with a success as big as “Terrifier,” it’s no surprise that several folks on the distribution side want credit for first recognizing Art the Clown as the icon he would become through the trilogy. (“Terrifier 4” has not yet begun production or landed a distribution deal.) But Barton bet big by walking away from Dread Central in part because of the movie. He got bought out of his 20 percent share in the company and made supporting “Terrifier” his full-time job.

Per Barton, he packed and shipped “Terrifier” merchandise out of his basement — while playing watchdog for bootleg products on Etsy and routinely interfacing with fans who had questions about available merchandise. He says he also negotiated major convention appearances for Art the Clown as well as inspired his inclusion in video games and at popular horror events, circles where Barton was already well known but Leone and Falcone were not. Barton was not on set for any “Terrifier” production, but his repeat appearances promoting the franchise were eventually cited by Falcone as proof he had overstated his role.

Barton told IndieWire the email from Falcone “firing” him in November 2023 came as a shock. Going beyond what a typical producer might do, the Dread Central co-founder had always seen his efforts to support the lifecycle of the film as a good thing for a low-budget production. He arranged press features, celebrity-backed screenings, and completed a wide range of office PA duties Falcone and Leone might’ve had to hire someone to do otherwise. Never stepping foot on set, Barton says he still endeavored to support the productions in ways that mattered for the art and its bottom line. The week before he was dismissed, Barton said Leone had been showing him test footage for “Terrifier 3.”

“I feel like Dr. Frankenstein being haunted by his monster, and it breaks my heart,” said Barton, who described feeling conflicted every time he sees “Terrifier” in stores or on screen. “I am still living paycheck to paycheck, and it hurts to look at. Even [on Halloween], I have little kids dressed like Art knocking on my door. I get very sad and upset each time I see it. Because it harkens back to the whole, ‘What did I do wrong? I’m a failure. I should be taking better care of my wife and kids…’ thing.”

A poster Barton says was signed by Leone and Falcone, featuring remarks that call Barton a ‘champion’

By most accounts, Barton’s falling out with Leone and Falcone isn’t actionable and was repeatedly short-handed to IndieWire by sources on both sides as “creative differences.” He wasn’t under any kind of formal contract, and, according to Barton, he wrongly assumed he would be taken care of as the franchise grew. The email and text exchanges that severed the relationship between Barton and Leone/Falcone paint very different pictures of his contribution to “Terrifier.” Falcone claimed Barton was taking credit he was never owed, and Leone backed his partner up, saying, “This is between you and Phil.”

Another anonymous source closer to the production characterized the split differently. Per their account, Barton had seriously overstepped and created a dynamic that was doomed to fail. Similar to Corcoran’s complaint, that POV places the burden of asking for “Terrifier” credit on everyone but Leone and Falcone.

Still, the public connection between Barton and “Terrifier” persists to this day. Even having sold off all of his favorite collectibles — partly from financial need but also out of hurt — in an event he called a “Terri-Fire Sale,” Barton says he still gets tagged endlessly in posts about the killer clown. The same anonymous source said that they weren’t surprised allegations of wrongdoing had surfaced regarding the making and marketing of the film, emphasizing that inexperienced productions often make mistakes as they become more successful.

Barton’s story bears a striking resemblance to the narrative outlined in Corcoran’s legal claim and suggests the franchise was enjoying demonstrable success at a time that could be critical to determining if and how much she is owed. It’s also just the start of a string of similar stories, many from “Terrifier” fans like Barton who have raised the alarm on their own business deals with Leone and Falcone.

Mona Singh Slams Unrealistic Beauty Norms That Leave Women Feeling ‘Inadequate’: It’s Time to Dismantle This Barrier

by jummy84 October 27, 2025
written by jummy84

Recently, in a conversation with Zoom, Mona Singh reflected on challenging traditional norms and redefining beauty standards for women in television. She discussed the unrealistic expectations placed on actors through social media and how these pressures often shape public perception. Mona revolutionised the image of television actresses with her iconic role in Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin (2003). By portraying a character that broke away from stereotypical beauty ideals, she changed how audiences viewed female performers. Her courage to embrace authenticity made her a pioneer, inspiring countless women and setting new benchmarks in the entertainment industry for confidence and individuality.

Mona Singh opened up about her journey of breaking norms and stepping beyond her comfort zone. From Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa on television to films like Laal Singh Chaddha and web series such as Kaala Paani and The Ba**ds of Bollywood. She has fearlessly embraced diverse roles.

Mona Singh believes complacency is ‘unappealing’

Mona Singh Pic

In her interview with Zoom, Mona revealed: “I have always operated under the belief that I won’t just sit back and wait for opportunities to come to me. I find that very unappealing,” she remarked, adding, “The most appealing quality is ambition and the drive to pursue it, rather than remaining complacent.” Rejecting complacency, the actress expressed, “I never positioned myself thinking that I would do TV for 5 years just because it’s comfortable. I have never done that.”

Breaking the Norm

Mona Singh

Reflecting on her journey in the industry, Mona proudly remarked: “My debut show, Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, altered every rule in the industry. A girl who was expected to be pretty, glamorous, and solely focused on vanity upon entering the industry, I shattered that stereotype. For me, as an actor, individual, and human, I have consistently challenged the status quo. I seek comfort and affection at home, but outside, I thrive on adrenaline, challenges, and exploring new experiences. From Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin to The Ba***ds Of Bollywood, it has been an incredible journey. I have gained so much from each role I have taken on. I have unlearned numerous things. It’s an ongoing process of growth.”

Mona’s Take on Modern Beauty Standards

Mona also spoke about her decision to reject unrealistic beauty standards. For her, “vanity isn’t just about looking attractive—it’s about feeling confident and caring for oneself.” She emphasized that true beauty lies in self-assurance and self-respect rather than external validation. Mona remarked: “These unattainable beauty standards portrayed in magazines, where images are heavily edited, place women in a position where they feel ‘I’m not enough.’ That is the barrier we must dismantle, allowing us to embrace ourselves as we are. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to look good and exercising for your own sake. If you feel good, that’s great, but succumbing to the pressure of feeling inadequate or unattractive is simply absurd.”

Social Media and the Rise of Unrealistic Beauty Standards

When asked whether social media’s beauty standards have a negative impact on aspiring actors, she agreed, saying: “Many things you see on social media are misleading. People sharing their vacation photos and such—are they truly happy? Nothing is flawless, and no one leads a perfect life. Perfection is unattainable. We must accept our imperfections and who we are. However, the positive aspect is that we should strive to improve ourselves. We need to evolve and grow over time without taking social media too personally. People often feel down when they have fewer followers. I’m not sure what kind of world we are living in.”

After The Ba**ds of Bollywood* Mona’s upcoming lineup includes Paan Parda Zarda, Ma Ka Sum, Border 2, and Happy Patel Khatarnaak Jasoos.

Feeling stressed and out of focus? Yoga expert shares 3 breathing exercises to calm your mind

Add gentle breathing exercises to your routine to combat stress. Find out which ones you can try at home.

Stress is a natural biological response, initiating the fight or flight response when a threat is perceived. But lately, lifestyles are becoming more and more hectic with ‘threats’ looming everywhere, frantic deadlines at work, family responsibilities, peer pressure, and so on. When you are stressed, you feel scattered and out of focus. This perpetual state of stress is not damaging to health, and you are more likely to fall sick.

If you are feeling stressed, consider doing some valuable breathwork exercises which will help to calm down your mind. (Picture credit: Shutterstock)

A study from February 2024 revealed that chronic stress extensively affects the immune system, altering cognitive functions. A previous HT Lifestyle interview from January 2025 with a cardiologist pointed out to stress’s life-threatening impact, highlighting that acute stress is a direct trigger for a heart attack.

Stress regulation is non-negotiable for maintaining both physical and mental well-being. In a daily routine, including easy stress-bursting techniques may help to alleviate the turbulent mental and physical state stress may create.

Global yoga educator and founder of Akhanda Yoga Institute, Dr Yogrishi Vishvketu (PhD), with 45 years of experience in yoga practice and teaching, shared with HT Lifestyle about breathwork techniques and how they play a role in lowering stress levels.

He said, “Your breath can heal and enhance your entire system.” The yoga expert suggested that the benefits extend to different areas of life and professions, calling yogic breathwork techniques a ‘game-changer.’ “In high-performance arenas, whether on the sports field or in the boardroom, breath can be the ultimate game-changer.”

Dr Yogrishi Vishvketu shared 3 breathing exercises with us, listing out the health value and how one can do them at home:

1. Longer exhale-to-inhale ratio

Value:

  • Breathing in a 4-count inhale, 6-count exhale ratio activates the parasympathetic nervous system, lowering resting heart rate and grounding energy.
  • This rhythm calms mental, helps with high-pressure, deadline-driven environments.

How to try at home:

  • Sit comfortably with eyes softened, gazing at a single point.
  • Inhale for a steady count of 2–3–4, then exhale for 2–3–4–5–6. Repeat 4–5 times.
  • Afterwards, gently exhale with your mouth open, releasing any tension, and allow the body to calm.

2. Kapalbhati kriya

Value:

  • This dynamic, exhalation-focused practice sweeps away mental “noise” and heightens concentration.

How to try at home:

  • Sit tall with palms resting on your belly, thumbs pointing upward. As you exhale, use your hand to help the belly draw in.
  • Focus mainly on the exhalation; the inhalation will happen naturally.
  • Begin slowly, then gradually lengthen and deepen your exhale as you build comfort.

3. Active Anuloma Viloma

Value:

  • A faster-paced alternate nostril sequence balances brain hemispheres while grounding, energising, and sharpening clarity.
  • For those experiencing anxiety or overwhelm, slowing Anuloma Viloma can restore calm and deeper grounding.

How to try at home:

  • Bring your right hand to your nose. Close the left nostril and exhale through the right, then switch fingers to close the right nostril and exhale through the left.

“I Just Wanted to Get Out of There”, Gulshan Devaiah Recalls Feeling Out of Place at Shah Rukh Khan’s Mannat Party

Actor Gulshan Devaiah, known for his recent appearance in Kantara: A Legend – Chapter One, recently opened up about a star-studded evening that left him feeling unexpectedly uncomfortable. In an honest and introspective interview with one of the media houses, Gulshan recalled attending a lavish party at Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic bungalow, Mannat, where despite a warm welcome, he couldn’t shake off the feeling that he didn’t belong.

Gulshan attended the high-profile event with actress Kalki Koechlin, arriving in her car. He described the entrance to Mannat as “not what people think,” subtly hinting at how the reality of such elite gatherings differs from the glitz often portrayed. “I stayed at the party for about three hours, but I felt very uncomfortable. I kept feeling like I didn’t belong there,” Gulshan admitted. Despite being personally welcomed by Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan, who he described as very sweet, the actor said he couldn’t shake off the feeling of being out of place.

“That feeling was the biggest realization for me, that I shouldn’t feel like I don’t belong here. But I did.” The night wasn’t without its highlights. Gulshan recalled a long and engaging conversation with Australian actor Joel Edgerton, known for his work in The Great Gatsby and Loving. Still, the admiration for others present at the party only deepened his discomfort.

“I kept looking at Joel and thinking, ‘Where have I seen you before?’ They’re all very successful,” he said, reflecting on the aura of celebrity around him. Despite the kindness and respect shown to him, the internal struggle persisted. For Gulshan, this was more than just an awkward evening, it was a reflection of the deeper challenges of feeling accepted within the film industry. Gulshan shared that with time and experience, he no longer feels that level of discomfort, but the experience at Mannat stayed with him as a defining moment. “If I want to feel at home in this industry, I need to feel comfortable in such situations. But for those three hours, I just wanted to get out of there.”

Max Hospital cardiologist shares why that ‘just gas’ feeling could be an early sign of a silent heart attack

Heart attacks don’t always come with classic chest pain. Many people ignore subtle signs like bloating, gas, or indigestion, thinking it’s just digestive issues. However, these could sometimes indicate early cardiac problems.

Dr. Bhamri warns that persistent symptoms like gas and bloating may indicate silent heart attacks.(Shutterstock)

Dr Naveen Bhamri, Cardiologist with 21 years of experience at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Delhi, shares in his Instagram post why these symptoms should not be overlooked and when to seek medical attention. (Also read: Max Hospital cardiology director shares what perfect Indian plate really looks like: ‘Add 1 or 2 rotis and…’ )

What symptoms distinguish gas from a heart attack

“What are the symptoms that help us differentiate between gas and a heart attack? Many people don’t know this. In India, gas symptoms are very common. People often feel bloated and assume it’s just gas, without chest pain. However, these symptoms can mimic those of a heart attack,” warns Dr Naveen.

He adds, “So, don’t ignore such signs. If you experience them regularly, you must consult a cardiologist. Often, these symptoms, like heaviness in the chest, burping, or bloating, can indicate a silent heart attack, especially in elderly women or those with high blood pressure for a long time.”

When should you consult a cardiologist

Dr Bhamri explains that while gas and indigestion are usually harmless, persistent or recurring symptoms should never be overlooked. “Silent heart attacks may not present with the classic severe chest pain. Instead, they can appear as mild discomfort, bloating, or unusual heaviness in the chest. Timely medical evaluation can be life-saving,” he adds.

He advises individuals, particularly those with risk factors like high blood pressure, diabetes, or a family history of heart disease, to stay alert. Regular check-ups and prompt consultation at the first sign of unusual digestive or chest symptoms can prevent serious complications.

Shailene Woodley opens up about feeling “vulnerable” singing in upcoming Janis Joplin biopic

Shailene Woodley has opened up about feeling “vulnerable” doing vocals for the upcoming biopic Janis Joplin: Get It While You Can.

As was announced last year, Woodley is set to star in and produce a film charting the life of Joplin, who died at age 27 in 1970 from a heroin overdose. She was a singular force in the psychedelic rock scene, with the bluesy grit to her voice making her a standout.

With pre-production on the long-gestating project ongoing, Woodley has now told People that singing for the role was one of the hardest elements of stepping into Joplin’s shoes.

“Singing is very scary. It’s very vulnerable,” she admitted.

She is working alongside 4 Non Blondes’ Linda Perry on the feature, and has described her as “an incredible songwriter, singer and music producer”.

Speaking to EW last September, Perry said she was thrilled to see Joplin’s story brought to the screen after “waiting decades for this movie to be made”. She also described Woodley’s “emotional commitment and dedication” to the role as inspiring, saying she “lives for the art”.

“I can’t think of a better person to portray such a powerful, emotional, and complex artist,” she added.

As for embodying Joplin’s style, Woodley has also told Jimmy Fallon that they were given access to clothes from the era for the film, saying, “We have the outfits. Everything.”

The long-awaited feature received $2.49 million in funding from the California Film Commission, and Woodley said in a statement that it was significant given California “meant so much” to Joplin.

“I have a feeling Janis would be smiling ear to ear, zipping down the PCH in her psychedelic Porsche, knowing her story is bringing opportunities and funding to the city and people that held so much significance to her.”

There have been several attempts made to develop a biopic about the legendary singer previously, with Amy Adams, Zooey Deschanel, Pink and Melissa Etheridge among those attached at one point to play Joplin in films that never got to production.

Back in 2023, Margot Robbie also expressed an interest in portraying the rock star, telling NME: “I think everyone has been trying to do a Janis Joplin [movie] for a long time.”

At the time of writing, Janis Joplin: Get It While You Can has not yet been given an official release date.
