“When filming, we had to use our imagination, which our actors embraced perfectly.” Whoa – meet the big guys! Netflix has unveiled a 5 minute promo featurette for the Norway monster movie sequel Troll 2, which is now playing on Netflix right now. We posted the full official trailer a few months ago – this video focuses on the VFX work and the design & creation of the main trolls that will rumble in this sequel. Netflix got the original Norwegian action director, Roar Uthaug, back for this one. Nora, Andreas and Captain Kris leap back into action when a dangerous new troll awakes – and this time they’ll need more help to take it down. With the clock ticking and chaos spreading, they’ll need new allies and ancient secrets to stop the rampage. Starring Ine Marie Wilmann, Kim Falck, Mads Sjøgård Pettersen, and Sara Khorami. Producers also state: “It’s always daunting to do a sequel but we truly feel that this time, we’ve created an even better, bigger, funnier, and more adventurous film – if that’s even possible!” This is a very fun video that lets Roar himself speak and explain their decisions and how they made these new Troll characters. Check it out below.

Here’s the VFX breakdown featurette for Roar Uthaug’s epic sequel Troll 2, direct from Netflix’s YouTube:

🎥 “A lot of locations required having a small camera so we could fit anywhere. Easy to move around and follow whatever’s happening.” One of the best films of 2025 is now out in theaters around the world. Netflix has debuted the film Train Dreams, directed by Clint Bentley – it’s in theaters now and will be streaming on Netflix later this month. Train Dreams premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to exceptional reviews (here’s mine). The stunningly beautiful story is a moving portrait of Robert Grainier, a logger and railroad worker who leads a life of unexpected depth and beauty in the rapidly-changing America of the early 20th Century. It follows him throughout a great deal of his life, through trials and tribulations, as he watches the world change right before his eyes. Featuring a score by Bryce Dessner. Train Dreams stars Joel Edgerton as Robert, with Felicity Jones, Nathaniel Arcand, Clifton Collins Jr., John Diehl, Paul Schneider, with Kerry Condon and William H. Macy. This featurette focuses on the very talented cinematographer Adolpho Veloso who collaborated closely with Bentley crafting this, discussing their ideas & techniques to shoot this. He deserves plenty of nominations – it’s a seriously magnificent film.

Here’s the cinematography featurette for Clint Bentley’s film Train Dreams, from Netflix’s YouTube:

Train Dreams is directed by acclaimed American filmmaker Clint Bentley, director of the film Jockey previously, plus a few shorts, and a produce / writer on the Oscar-nominated film Sing Sing. The screenplay is written by Clint Bentley and Greg Kwedar (director of Sing Sing), based on the novella of the same name by Denis Johnson. It’s produced by Marissa McMahon, Teddy Schwarzman, William Janowitz, Ashley Schlaifer, Michael Heimler. This initially premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year (read our review). Netflix will debut Bentley’s Train Dreams in select theaters first on November 7th, 2025, then streaming on Netflix worldwide starting November 21st. Catch it on Netflix. Ready to watch?

“Every character he meets will start adding a little bit more color into his life.” This looks so delightful. Searchlight Pictures has debuted a new promo featurette for the heartfelt film titled Rental Family, made by the filmmaker known as “Hikari” who also directed episodes of the series “Beef” & the film 37 Seconds. Rental Family already premiered at TIFF a few months ago and opens in theaters later in November this fall. Discover the joy of unexpected connections. A lonely American actor living in Tokyo starts working for a Japanese “rental family” company to play stand-in roles in other people’s lives. Along his journey, he finds surprising connections and unexpected joys within his built-in family. This stars Oscar winner Brendan Fraser, along with Takehiro Hira, Mari Yamamoto, Shannon Gorman, & Akira Emoto. This fun promo focuses on explaining the story and the concept it explores – the idea that in Tokyo, Japan you can just rent a person for whatever – to be your friend, your boyfriend, your family member. I’m really looking forward to watching the film. I think this very wholesome, uplifting story is what we could use more of now.

Here’s the “Building a New Family” featurette for Hikari’s film Rental Family, on Searchlight’s YouTube:

Rental Family Featurette

Set against modern-day Tokyo, Rental Family follows an American actor (Oscar winner Brendan Fraser) who struggles to find his purpose until he lands an unusual gig: working for a Japanese “rental family” agency, playing stand-in roles for strangers. As he immerses himself in his new clients’ worlds, he begins to form genuine bonds that soon blur the lines between performance and reality. Confronting the moral complexities of his work, he rediscovers purpose, belonging, and the quiet beauty of human connection. Rental Family is directed by the Japanese filmmaker known as Hikari (aka Mitsuyo Miyazaki), director of the film 37 Seconds previously, plus episodes of the series “Beef” from A24. The screenplay is written by Stephen Blahut and Hikari. Produced by Julia Lebedev, Eddie Vaisman, Shin Yamaguchi, and Hikari. This is premiering at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival this fall. Searchlight will then debut Hikari’s Rental Family in select US theaters starting on November 21st, 2025 coming soon this fall. Who’s planning to watch this?

I’m pumped to watch! Based on the 1982 novel by Stephen King (under his pseudonym Richard Bachman) – it is the second adaptation of the book after the 1980s movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Set in a dystopian future, a game show called “The Running Man” has people chased by murderous Hunters across the world to win money. Ben Richards is willing to go the distance in this ultimate game of life and death… This new 2025 take on the sci-fi story stars Glen Powell as Ben, with Katy O’Brian, Daniel Ezra, Karl Glusman, Josh Brolin, Lee Pace, Jayme Lawson, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, William H. Macy, David Zayas, Sean Hayes, and Colman Domingo. They’ve been releasing so many videos for this movie – I just hope it’s even better than it looks. Bring on the sci-fi action bonanza! I’m ready to watch Glen Powell outrun & outsmart everyone. 🏃

“Known throughout Wildwood as The General. She embodies power & unshakeable grace.” Laika revealed a fascinating 3-minute making of featurette for their next stop-motion animated movie called Wildwood – now set for release sometime in 2026. We featured the very first teaser for this back in 2024 – they’ve been developing it for years and it’s only now finishing up. The character of Prue was revealed in the first look – Prue McKeel (Peyton Elizabeth Lee) and her friend Curtis are drawn into a hidden, magical forest near Portland after Prue’s baby brother Mac is kidnapped by crows, led by a mysterious woman. The voice cast includes Jacob Tremblay as Curtis, Carey Mulligan, Awkwafina, Mahershala Ali, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, Amandla Stenberg, Tom Waits, Jemaine Clement, & Richard E. Grant. This promo focuses on their famous stop-motion studio (based in Portland) figure out how to create the magical Golden Eagle character. They built 2 extraordinary puppets used in filming. “Meet The General, voiced by Angela Bassett, a fierce warrior and leader of the skies. Behind the scenes, the brilliant artists at Laika Studios are hand-crafting a character that soars beyond the screen through breathtaking stop-motion animation.” Can’t wait to see more. I love watching videos of stop-motion animation craft, always astonishing what they make.

Here’s the first look featurette for Travis Knight’s new film Wildwood, direct from Laika’s YouTube:

Step inside Laika’s Wildwood, where a powerful golden eagle commands the skies and magic takes flight. Wildwood – based on Colin Meloy’s illustrated book series – will see Prue McKeel leave behind her home of Portland, Oregon, venturing into Wildwood on a dark quest to save her baby brother, who’s been pilfered by a murder of crows. Wildwood is once again directed by filmmaker Travis Knight, who is also CEO of Laika, and director of the the movies Kubo and the Two Strings and Bumblebee previously. The screenplay is written by Chris Butler (ParaNorman, Kubo and the Two Strings, Missing Link). Based on the graphic novel series written by Colin Meloy and illustrated by Carson Ellis. Produced by Arianne Sutner and Travis Knight. Made by Laika Entertainment’s animators based in Portland, Oregon. There’s no final release date for Wildwood yet – expected to arrive in early 2026. “It’s a fever dream about motherhood.” A24 has posted a “first look” making of promo for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, which is already out in theaters now (go see it!). Made by talented up-and-coming filmmaker Mary Bronstein, this film premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to rave reviews. With her life crashing down around her, Linda attempts to navigate her child’s illness, her absent husband, a missing person, and an increasingly hostile relationship with her own therapist. I like the way Bronstein describes how the film is abut the mother as an individual: “It’s not a story about a family. It’s a story about this person.” Starring Rose Byrne as Linda, with Conan O’Brien, Danielle Macdonald, ASAP Rocky, Ivy Wolk, Daniel Zolghadri, and Josh Pais. This promo sheds a bit more light on the intent and ideas within this film. I’m glad it’s showing in theaters now – and I hope more people catch up with it soon. Enjoy.

Here’s the “first look” featurette for Mary Bronstein’s film If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, from YouTube:

You can rewatch the official trailer for Bronstein’s If I Had Legs I’d Kick You right here for more footage.

Linda (Rose Byrne) is a working mother at her wits’ end. When her ceiling literally comes crashing down on her, she is forced to face yet another crisis, staying in a motel with her young daughter while also navigating how to fix the hole in her ceiling, her child’s illness, a missing patient and a parade of people who seem incapable of helping her. If I Had Legs I’d Kick You is written and directed by American actress / writer / filmmaker Mary Bronstein, her second feature film after making Yeast (2008) previously and one other short film. Produced by Ronald Bronstein, Eli Bush, Richie Doyle, Conor Hannon, Sara Murphy, Josh Safdie, Ryan Zacarias. This initially premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival earlier in the year, and will be screening at TIFF next as a Special Presentation this September. A24 will debut Bronstein’s If I Had Legs I’d Kick You film in select US theaters starting October 10th, 2025 – now out in theaters. Any good?

“We have more action, more flying, more reveals, more drama.” More Witches & Wizards! Universal has revealed a fun LEGO recreation of the recent featurette for Jon M. Chu’s Wicked: For Good, opening in theaters everywhere in November. This behind-the-scenes look complements the first trailer a few months back. For Good is the second chapter of this immersive, cultural celebration. “It’s really about them trying to get back together in some way, even if the fates don’t allow that.” As an angry mob rises up against the Wicked Witch, Glinda and Elphaba will need to come together one final time. With their strong friendship now the fulcrum of their futures, they will need to truly see each other, with honesty and empathy, if they are to change themselves, and all of Oz, for good. Cynthia Erivo stars as Elphaba Thropp, a young woman with green skin who becomes the Wicked Witch. Ariana Grande co-stars as Glinda, with Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James, Keala Settle, plus Jeff Goldblum as the iconic Wizard of Oz. With Sharon D. Clarke as the voice of Elphaba’s childhood nanny, Dulcibear. This is a shot-for-shot remake of the featurette from August, including all the behind-the-scenes, on set footage with Chu being redone in LEGO, too. Which is the most amusing part about it. Enjoy.

Here’s the fun LEGO version of the featurette for Jon M. Chu’s sequel Wicked: For Good, from YouTube:

Wicked: For Good Featurette

Wicked: For Good Featurette

“You’re the only friend I ever had…” The final chapter of the untold story of the witches of Oz begins with Elphaba and Glinda estranged and living with the consequences of their choices. Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), now demonized as The Wicked Witch of the West, lives in exile, hidden in the Ozian forest while continuing her fight for the freedom of Oz’s silenced Animals and desperately trying to expose the truth she knows about The Wizard (Jeff Goldblum). Glinda, meanwhile, has become the glamorous symbol of Goodness for all of Oz, living at the palace in Emerald City and reveling in the perks of fame and popularity. However, under the instruction of Madame Morrible (Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh), Glinda is then deployed to serve as an effervescent comfort to all of Oz, reassuring the masses that all is well under the rule of The Wizard.

Wicked: For Good, also known as Wicked: Part Two, is also directed by talented American filmmaker Jon M. Chu, director of the movies Step Up 2: The Streets, The LXD, Step Up 3D, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Jem and the Holograms, Now You See Me 2, Crazy Rich Asians, In the Heights, and the first Wicked movie. The screenplay is written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox. It’s adapted from Holzman & Stephen Schwartz’s stage musical Wicked, which is based on the 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire, inspired by The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Produced by Marc Platt and David Stone (of the Broadway musical). Universal Pictures will debut Chu’s sequel Wicked: For Good in theaters everywhere starting November 21st, 2025 just before Thanksgiving this fall. Excited to watch this finale?
