“It’s like they say: you can choose your friends, your lovers, but you can’t choose your family.” Mubi has debuted their official trailer for the film titled Father Mother Sister Brother, the new Jim Jarmusch film that has been in the works for years. It premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival, where it strangely won the Golden Lion award, and also played at NYFF. It will play in limited theaters starting in December later this year. A new ensemble comedy feature a huge cast of characters – this is a triptych with segments set in the US, France, Ireland. Estranged siblings reunite after years apart, forced to confront unresolved tensions and reevaluate their strained relationships with their emotionally distant parents – a mom, dad, & brother / sister. A series of character studies: quiet, observational and non-judgemental — a comedy, but interwoven with threads of melancholy. Starring Tom Waits, Adam Driver, Mayim Bialik, Charlotte Rampling, Cate Blanchett, Vicky Krieps, Sarah Greene, Indya Moore, Luka Sabbat, Françoise Lebrun. Despite this solid cast, this is one of my least favorite films of the year. Excruciatingly boring and entirely pointless – don’t think it deserves any awards or anyone’s attention. But that’s just my own opinion.

Father Mother Sister Brother is a feature film, though carefully constructed in the form of a triptych. The 3 stories all concern the relationships between adult children, their somewhat distant parent (or parents), and each other. Each of the three chapters takes place in the present, and each in a different country. Father is set in the Northeast US, Mother in Dublin, Ireland, and Sister Bother in Paris, France. The film is a series of character studies, quiet, observational and non-judgmental – a comedy, but interwoven with threads of melancholy. Father Mother Sister Brother is written and directed by acclaimed American indie filmmaker Jim Jarmusch, director of many great films including Stranger Than Paradise, Down by Law, Mystery Train, Night on Earth, Dead Man, Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, Coffee and Cigarettes, Broken Flowers, The Limits of Control, Only Lovers Left Alive, Paterson, Gimme Danger, and The Dead Don’t Die previously. When she came to Lucknow, I wasn’t feeling well. I asked her to come another day because I had a meeting. Still, she came and caused a commotion.”

He went on to make serious claims, alleging that Jyoti’s family had political motives and said, “Jyoti’s father once asked me to help make her an MLA. I refused, saying it was beyond my control. Now, look at her meetings and statements, it’s clear what the agenda is.” The actor also stressed that the divorce case between the two is still in court and that both sides must respect the law. “My image has already suffered enough. Let’s wait for the court’s verdict,” he added.

Recounting the events of Jyoti’s arrival in Lucknow, Pawan said, “She came with her sister, brother, and a boy who manages her social media. I treated them with respect, offered food and water. She refused to leave until the divorce was settled. I had a meeting, so I asked my brother to talk to her. When I returned, I realized the situation had escalated.” Meanwhile, Jyoti Singh took to Instagram to appeal directly to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. In her emotional post, she wrote, “Chief Minister, your government promotes ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao,’ but your police insult women like me. Is it a crime for a wife to visit her husband’s home? I demand strict action against such officers who misuse their power.”

In the past, Zelda Williams has had no problem defending her father, the late, great Robin Williams. But after putting Eric Trump in his place back in 2020, the actress and director has a new target: AI.

In a series of Instagram Stories on Monday, Williams urged the internet to “stop sending me AI videos of dad.” She continued, saying she’s “seen way worse” from trolls and described the process as a “waste of time and energy,” adding, “Believe me, it’s not what he’d want.”

She went on to say that these same people are condensing people’s very lives and legacies simply so they can “churn out horrible TikTok slop puppetering.” Those videos, Williams added, can’t be considered art whatsoever but are rather “disgusting, over-processed hotdogs [sic]” made from people’s unrelated imagery/likenesses. In turn, online users are only inundated with this “slop” because some folks are “hoping they’ll give you a little thumbs up.”

Bollywood actor Rajat Bedi recently made his comeback with Aryan Khan’s web series Ba***ds of Bollywood. In a candid conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Rajat opened up about his early life and revealed how the entire film fraternity used to visit his home when his father, Narendra Bedi, was alive. However, after his father’s death, the industry, he said, completely “abandoned” his family.

Rajat shared that his grandfather, renowned Urdu writer and director Rajinder Singh Bedi, had worked with legends like Prithviraj Kapoor, Dharmendra, and other stalwarts. He also revealed that his father, Narendra Bedi, started his career as an assistant to Raj Kapoor and went on to direct several successful films such as Benaam, Adalat, Jawani Diwani, and more.

Reflecting on his father’s death, Rajat said, “I was nine years old when I lost my father. He was 45. I remember vividly that no one from the industry looked back at us, except for director Prakash Mehra and his family. For about six months to a year after Papa’s death, Prakash-ji sent money to our house, telling my mother, ‘Bhabhi, don’t worry.’ My mother has been a housewife all her life. She hasn’t done anything apart from raising three children on her own. Besides Prakash-ji, no one else looked back. It’s a very unforgiving industry.”

Rajat further recalled, “After that, we were out of the industry until I decided to start working. One day, my mum asked me what I wanted to do. I was lost. She suggested I assist Ramesh Sippy. She spoke to him personally, and he agreed immediately. I was 18 when I joined him and worked on the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Zamaana Deewana. I was quite close to SRK at that time; we worked together for about two and a half years. He used to call me ‘Tiger’ because I was this aggressive guy — and also because there were two Rajats on set.”

If he had waited for five more years and worked harder, he could have made something even Sanjay Leela Bhansali would have appreciated.”

For the past few years, it’s felt like Taylor Swift’s goal has been expansion at any cost. For longtime fans, the price of Swift becoming the world’s biggest pop star is clear: On The Life of a Showgirl, her 12th album, the pinpoint specificity that defined her best work has all but evaporated, replaced by flaccid podcast-related sexual innuendo and clunker words like “legitly.”

“Father Figure” throws the shift into stark relief. Picking up on ideas of fame, power, and respectability that she explored to great effect on folklore’s “The Last Great American Dynasty” and The Tortured Poets Department’s “Clara Bow”—a thread that leads all the way back to “The Lucky One,” from Red—“Father Figure” is a rare flash of reality amid Showgirl’s cartoony odes to tradwifery and Gucci-clad bad girls.

It is, arguably, Swift’s most straightforward appraisal of her own power: Casting herself as a steely mafioso, she sings about the financial benefit of being even a minor player in the Swiftiverse and casually bemoans the fact that, no matter how much money you might make for someone, you can never guarantee their fealty. “Father Figure” works because—unlike so many of Swift’s songs about broken friendships or business partnerships—any bitterness is hidden many layers deep, beneath actual jokes (“I can make deals with the devil/Because my dick’s bigger”) and chilly, spectral production that sounds like Beach House by way of Carly Rae Jepsen.

“Father Figure” will be pored over for Easter eggs—I have already seen fans fighting over whether it’s about Scott Borchetta or Olivia Rodrigo—which misses the point by a mile: Musically deft and lyrically economical in a way that the rest of Showgirl isn’t, the sweetly sinister “Father Figure” suggests that there might still be a sharper, more interrogative Swift waiting in the wings for when the showgirl’s time is up.

The 39-year-old actor welcomed a daughter – whose name has not been publicly revealed – with his fiancee Suki Waterhouse in March 2024 and he confessed that he has been “surprised” at how parenthood has changed him.

Robert told ICON magazine: “I have so much more patience. It’s funny, it’s not even patience; I genuinely enjoy hanging out with babies. That surprised me.”

The Batman star also quipped about how amusing it is to have “real conversations about things like schools or daycares”.

He said: “It’s so strange. It’s like, there’s this gravitational pull… Like, I have to wear Patagonia puffer jackets and cargo shorts now. I just have to.”

Pattinson revealed earlier this year that he has a new “energy” since becoming a dad.

Speaking at a press conference alongside Jennifer Lawrence to promote their film Die, My Love at the Cannes Film Festival, the Twilight actor said: “I think, in the most unexpected ways, having a baby gives you the biggest trove of energy and inspiration afterward. It’s a different kind of energy.

“Ever since she was born, it’s reinvigorated the way I approach work, and yeah, you’re a completely different person the next day.”

The Harry Potter star admitted parenthood has made him keen to take on another family-friendly role in the future.

Asked if he is open to doing a kids-focused film in the future, he said: “I’d love to.

“I’m always kinda open to anything.

“Whatever takes my interest is always so shocking to me. I’m like, ‘We’ll just see what’s coming.'”

Pattinson explained earlier this year that he had become fixated with his daughter’s smell and is able to tell her apart by scent alone.

He told Vogue: “I remember people used to be like, ‘Oh, don’t you like the smell of babies?’, but I thought they were just smelling the baby powder.

“But then I had a baby, and I was like, ‘My baby smells incredible.’

“There’s something there, I can identify her. She doesn’t smell like other babies.”

Robert also revealed he had become an “expert” when it comes to dealing with dirty nappies.

He told Extra: “I’m an expert, like, the stealth nappy when the baby doesn’t even know they’ve had their nappy changed.”

Is Taylor Swift’s ‘Father Figure’ a Remix of the George Michael Song?

No, Taylor’s “Father Figure” is not a new version of George Michael‘s 1987 song of the same name, but hers is an interpolation of his. This means that Taylor included a portion of his composition into her new track.

George’s X team thanked Taylor in a public statement following the release of The Life of a Showgirl.

“We were delighted when Taylor Swift and her team approached us earlier this year about incorporating an interpolation of George Michael’s classic song ‘Father Figure’ into a brand new song of the same title to be featured on her forthcoming album,” George’s X account team tweeted. “When we heard the track, we had no hesitation in agreeing to this association between two great artists and we know George would have felt the same. George Michael Entertainment wishes Taylor every success with The Life of a Showgirl and ‘Father Figure.’”

What Is ‘Father Figure’ About?

According to its lyrics, “Father Figure” is a reflection of someone making Taylor their “protégé” during the early days of her career and expecting her “loyalty.” The track also seemingly includes a few references from The Godfather, with lyrics such as “You’ll be sleeping with the fishes” and “protecting the family” hinting at a mob boss archetype.

Who Is ‘Father Figure’ About?

Taylor doesn’t name any person in particular in “Father Figure,” but Swifties immediately thought about her falling out with Scooter Braun and Big Machine Records executive Scott Borchetta, who made Taylor the first signed artist with Big Machine. Scott met Taylor when she was a 14-year-old country music singer.

In the chorus of “Father Figure,” Taylor sings from the perspective of a mafia-esque mentor who manipulates her.

“I was your father figure / We drank that brown liquor / You made a deal with this devil, turns out my d**k’s bigger,” she sings. “You want a fight, you found it / I got the place surrounded / You’ll be sleeping with the fishes before you know you’re drownin’ / Whose portrait’s on the mantle? / Who covered up your scandals? / Mistake my kindness for weakness and find your card cancelled / I was your father figure / You pulled the wrong trigger / This empire belongs to me.”

Some fans believe the lyric “empire” indicates Taylor’s successful career and that it “belongs” to the “father figure” who discovered her.
