`Diwali, or Deepawali, is considered as one of the highly auspicious festivals of the year for a large number of Hindus around the world. From bright lights to new dresses and fireworks, Diwali is one of the most memorable days of the year for most Hindus. This includes Hindus outside India too, as the festival is celebrated with aplomb by the diaspora.

The American Hindu community is not an exception to this as they observe this festival with all its accoutrements. Even politicians in the US have marked the day with greetings to Hindus and lighting of lamps, including the President.

Diwali 2025 timings in US

Since there is a major time difference between India and the US, many remain confused over the issue about the right ‘muhurt’ or the most auspicious time to celebrate Diwali in North America. Notably, there is also some confusion regarding the exact date of the festival this year.

In India, Diwali will be celebrated on October 21. Now, the question is: When should this festival be celebrated in the United States – October 20 or 21?

Correct day to celebrate Diwali in the United States

According to ‘Drik Panchang,’ a website that presents the Hindu Lunar calendar, Diwali should be celebrated in New York on October 20. The muhurat for Lakshmi Puja is from 7:17 PM to 8:45 PM on this day.

According to another source, Pratyangira Siddhi, the best time to have Lakshmi Puja in the US is 6:40 PM to 8:41 PM on October 20.

The makers of Vrusshabha, starring Mohanlal, have dropped a teaser that sets the tone for an ambitious saga. Directed by Nanda Kishore, the film is set to release theatrically on October 16, coinciding with the Diwali festival.

The teaser hints at a narrative that cuts across two timelines, one rooted in the present day and another in a grand historical setting. Mohanlal takes centre stage in the period sequences, where he appears as a king, donning regal armour and exuding authority amid breathtaking visuals.

Star Cast, Crew and Creative Team Behind the Vision

Alongside Mohanlal, the film features Samarjit Lankesh, Ragini Dwivedi, Roshan Meka, Shanaya Kapoor, Zara Khan, and Srikanth Meka in key roles.

Vrusshabha is produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, C.K. Padma Kumar, Varun Mathur, Saurabh Mishra, Abishek S Vyas, Praveer Singh, Vishal Gurnani, and Juhi Parekh Mehta. The project is presented by Connekkt Media and Balaji Telefilms in association with Abishek S Vyas Studios.

On the technical side, music is composed by Sam CS, while dialogues are penned by SRK, Janardhan Maharshi, and Karthik. The visual style and action choreography are helmed by a strong crew: Antony Samson (cinematography), KM Prakash (editing), Nanditha Singh and Mohan B Kere (production design), and stunt masters Peter Hein, Stunt Silva, and Nikhil.

What Audiences Can Expect This Diwali

Fans are excited about the contrast teased in the promo: a modern storyline interwoven with an epic past. Mohanlal’s turn as a warrior-king has already become a highlight, drawing praise for its scale and grandeur.

Production is now in its final stages, with dubbing and post-production nearing completion. The film is being positioned as a festive spectacle for Diwali, promising to showcase Mohanlal in a role that blends mass appeal with mythic scale. With a powerhouse cast, lush production values, and a story that spans eras, Vrusshabha is shaping up to be one of the season’s biggest releases.
