Bollywood’s festive season commenced on a glamorous note as Ramesh Taurani, a producer, hosted his much anticipated yearly Diwali bash in Mumbai. The VIP event had some of the biggest names in the industry rubbing shoulders and dressing up for the occasion.

The evening’s most talked-about moment was actress Shriya Saran, who turned heads not only with her radiant looks but with a candle-lit romanced scene which went viral. Dazzling in a sparkling golden saree and fitted blouse, Shriya gave her husband a gentle peck on the cheek, with him looking dignified in a cream kurta-pajama. The moment trended on social media, with fans flooding comment sections with heart emojis and appreciation of the couple.

Also hogging all the limelight were Saba Azad and Hrithik Roshan, walking hand in hand, oozing charm and poise. Hrithik looked suave in an all-black satin ensemble, while Saba shone bright in a highly embellished gold-beige sharara, making them one of the best-dressed couples of the evening.

Ibrahim Ali Khan and his rumoured girlfriend Palak Tiwari made headlines as they posed together, giving rise to dating rumours. Ibrahim was dashing in a black sequined Indo-Western outfit with a V-neck kurta which plunged deep, while Palak sparkled in a multi-hued lehenga choli, exuding festive appeal.

Pulkit Samrat and Kriti Kharbanda, popular on-screen jodi, were also in the spotlight. Pulkit was dressed in an uber cool Indo-Western attire, while Kriti looked heavenly in an off-white saree with a show-stoppingly stylish designer blouse.

Jacqueline Fernandez went vintage cuteness in a traditional red saree and Sonakshi Sinha arrived with husband Zaheer Iqbal, both dressed in impeccably coordinated festive attire.

The bash was a visual treat, with a mixed crowd of film and TV celebrities present, including David Dhawan, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Karishma Tanna, Anushka Ranjan, Amyra Dastur, Mandira Bedi, Rasika Dugal, and Elnaaz Nourozi, and thus one of the most memorable parties of the season

Restaurants give Diwali a matcha needed twist

by jummy84 October 16, 2025
written by jummy84

The matcha mania isn’t dying down anytime soon. Cafes and restaurants across cities are giving matcha an ethnic twist by introducing Diwali specials that include festive flavours.

Friends indulge in motichoor matcha

Adding sweetness to the festivities

Matcha teamed with kulfi is a blend of the nostalgia of malai kulfi – a caramelised sweetened milk flavour that’s balanced with the sharp flavour of matcha. Annie Bafna, founder of Noa by the Nutcracker says, “We wanted to add something with an Indian twist which would appeal to a larger audience and with the festive season coming up, what’s more nostalgic than a kulfi flavour! Matcha and kulfi come together to bring changing flavour sensations to the palette with each sip ranging from nostalgia to contemporary. Matcha’s popularity has been driven by social media and global lifestyle trends, with Gen Z leading charge. And as a result, we’re now seeing growing curiosity even among the 30–50-year-old audience who want to understand what the hype is all about.”

Diwali isn’t complete without the popular motichoor ladoos. Keeping that in mind, motichoor matcha pairs the mithai with matcha’s earthy bitterness to create something familiar yet unique! Meher Kohli, co founder of Tokyo Matcha Bar says, “Diwali is all about joy and indulgence and we wanted to capture that spirit with Indian sweets being integral to the celebration, we wanted to bring the festive sparkle to the cafe and our community by creating a matcha drink inspired by Indian mithai. We took the iconic motichoor ladoo and crafted a motichoor matcha to create a collaboration between Indian heritage and Japanese culture. The motichoor matcha is layered with a base of desi ghee motichoor ladoo, milk of choice, ice, topped with our delicious vegan cold foam & a motichoor ladoo on top. The mithai pairs beautifully with matcha’s earthy bitterness to create something familiar yet unique.”

The gulab jamun matcha turns the festive sweet into a drink you can’t stop sipping. “The drink’s got this harmonious balance of sweet, milky, floral notes of gulab jamun, which perfectly compliment the earthy notes of matcha. The gulab jamun hits you first and then the matcha cuts through with its earthy freshness,” says Ryan Soarwatefounder, Spill the Tea.

Fruits add festive flavours

For those looking for a feel-good indulgence, that celebrates wellness without missing out on flavour or festivity, Café Delhi Heights has come up with fruit matchas on their festive menu. Chef Ashish Singh, culinary director, says, “From a drink that pairs matcha with the richness of fresh mango puree, to blending it with coconut water the flavours evoke tropical, familiar notes of Indian celebrations. A blend of matcha and strawberry purée perfectly captures the spirit of Diwali. Much like the festival itself, it’s bright, joyful, and full of contrast where the earthy depth of matcha meets the sweetness and vibrance of strawberry. The drink’s lush pink-green hues mirror the colours of celebration, while its flavour profile balances calm and indulgence, a reflection of how we celebrate togetherness and lightness during the festive season. It’s our playful take on Diwali in a cup refreshing, cheerful, and delightfully unmatched.”

Nutty and aromatic notes

The festive Iced pistachio matcha lets nutty and aromatic notes shine through. “The aim is to blend innovation with nostalgia crafting experiences that feel celebratory, comforting, and truly reflective of Diwali’s spirit. – a celebration of flavour, nostalgia and togetherness. The drink blends timeless Indian traditions with modern cafe craftsmanship adding a touch of indulgence to every celebration,” says Rajat Luthra, CEO of Third Wave Coffee.

Ingredients:

A. For the cake

  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp cornstarch
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 cup plant milk (almond, soy, or oat)
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • ½ cup neutral oil (such as sunflower or canola)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

B. For the soak (“three milks”)

  • ½ cup vegan condensed milk (coconut-based or oat)
  • ½ cup full-fat coconut milk or coconut cream
  • ½ cup plant milk of choice
  • 1 tsp rose water (optional but recommended)

C. For the topping

  • 1 cup vegan whipped cream
  • 2 Tbsp crushed pistachios
  • 2 Tbsp edible rose petals

Method:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8×8-inch baking pan.
  • Make vegan buttermilk: Combine the plant milk and vinegar; let sit for 5 minutes to curdle slightly.
  • Prepare the batter: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add oil, vanilla, and the buttermilk mixture; stir gently until smooth.
  • Bake: Pour into the prepared pan and bake 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes.
  • Soak: In a separate bowl, whisk together the three milks and rose water. Poke small holes all over the cake with a fork, then slowly pour the milk mixture evenly over the top. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours, or overnight, to allow the cake to absorb the liquid.
  • Finish and serve: Spread the whipped cream over the chilled cake, then sprinkle with pistachios and rose petals. Serve cold.
  • Chef’s tips: Use food-grade rose petals and pure rose water for the best aroma. A little goes a long way. To intensify the nutty flavour, add 1–2 tablespoons of finely ground pistachios to the batter. Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; the texture improves as it rests.

Diwali 2025: 4 special lighting hacks to create cosy festive interiors

Brighten up your home this Diwali with the help of 4 smart lighting hacks. From exercising balance to layering, know all the tricks here.

Diwali 2025: As homeowners enthusiastically prepare their houses for the festival of light, from dusting every shelf to repainting walls, one aspect cohesively and irrevocably reflects the festive cheer: lighting. How you choose to illuminate your home refreshes the mood. It is only fitting that the lighting check boxes are dutifully ticked off for the festival of light.

When it comes to Diwali, lighting often begins and ends with fairy lights and diyas, but there’s so much more to explore. Creating a well-rounded, well-lit space requires strategy while also retaining the warmth and intimacy of festive fervour at the very heart of the lighting arrangement.

To achieve a cohesive lighting strategy, Anupriyam Arora, Design Lead, MagickHome, shared with HT Lifestyle 4 key hacks for this Diwali season. According to her, lighting transcends the purpose of utility as it is also about emotion. Emphasising the value of proper light arrangement on Diwali, she said, “If walls are the bones of a home, then lighting is its heartbeat.” This also highlights that festive decor’s revamp isn’t only confined to painting walls, as your illumination techniques also require your diligent attention.

Here are the 4 lighting hacks Anupriyam suggested:

1. Layer lights

Layer lighting in your room to create an effect of 'layers.'(Picture credit: Image generated by Gemini)
Layer lighting in your room to create an effect of ‘layers.'(Picture credit: Image generated by Gemini)
  • Start with layers. A common mistake is relying on a single overhead light.
  • Instead, think in terms of ambient, task, and accent lighting.
  • Ambient lighting creates the overall glow, task lighting helps you focus in areas like the kitchen or study, and accent lighting adds drama by spotlighting art, textures, or architectural details.
  • Together, these layers make a space versatile and dynamic.

2. Avoid overlighting

Don't go overboard; find a balance. Avoid overlighting!(Picture credit: Image generated by Gemini)
Don’t go overboard; find a balance. Avoid overlighting!(Picture credit: Image generated by Gemini)
  • A critical point that is often overlooked is overlighting.
  • Too many fixtures or overly bright lights can create harsh shadows, glare, and visual clutter, which can actually make a space feel smaller or uncomfortable.
  • Effective lighting is always about balance – enough to illuminate and highlight, but carefully controlled to maintain warmth, depth, and mood.

3. Add statement lights

Add statement chandeliers to your interiors. (Picture credit: Image generated by Gemini)

  • A statement chandelier can be the jewel of a dining room, while pendant lights bring intimacy to a breakfast nook.
  • Wall sconces or floor lamps can add warmth and depth without major renovation.

4. Amplify natural light wherever possible

Leverage natural light with the help of mirror placements. (Picture credit: Image generated by Gemini)

  • Natural light is the most underrated design element.
  • Play with sheer curtains, mirrors, and reflective surfaces to amplify daylight – it instantly makes rooms feel bigger and more welcoming.
