AR Rahman Shares Story Behind His Name

Born as Dilip Kumar, Rahman experienced a major life shift after his father passed away. His family later embraced Islam, and Rahman began to feel that his original name didn’t truly represent who he was. “N“The truth is, I never liked my name. No disrespect to the great actor Dilip Kumar! However, somehow my name didn’t match the image I had of myself,” he said in an old interview with Dawn.

The name change happened during a visit to an astrologer, whom his mother had consulted for his sister’s marriage. Around that time, Rahman had also been thinking about changing his name. The astrologer noticed something special in him and suggested two names, Abdul Rahman and Abdul Rahim. “I instantly liked the name Rahman,” he said. His mother then added “Allahrakha,” meaning “Protected by God,” and the name AR Rahman was born.

Recently, the maestro opened up about another turning point in his journey, the time he decided to learn Hindi. Speaking to NDTV Good Times, Rahman said he once felt “humiliated” reading poor Hindi translations of his Tamil songs, which motivated him to master the language himself.

Now gearing up for his first-ever performance in Varanasi, Rahman said he’s excited to connect with the city’s history and energy. “I missed the opportunity before… I think it was meant to be that way. The call has come now,” he said. “It’s the energy and the million stories of Varanasi that I’m most looking forward to.”

Rahman’s journey, both spiritual and musical, continues to inspire fans across the world.

The Coldplay singer and his Goop founder ex-wife – who have Apple, 21, and son Moses, 19, together – made sure to raise their children with a strong work ethic, which has made them “grateful” for opportunities in life.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph newspaper, Apple said: “I constantly remind myself how grateful I am to have these opportunities.

“I know this is not a normal way to grow up by any means.

“But my parents did a really good job of instilling in me that I shouldn’t be entitled to anything. I have to work.”

Apple – who is studying law, history and society at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee – has joined Self Portrait for a new fashion campaign, having appeared for Chanel at Paris Fashion Week and posed with her Hollywood star mother for GapStudio.

However, by the time she turned 16 she had already started working in a clothes shop.

Back in 2020, her dad Chris told Ellen DeGeneres: “It’s her first job, and she’s about to be 16 and she’s making her way in the world and I’m so proud of her.”

Now, Apple has admitted she is doing what she can to have “a normal college experience”.

She told the newspaper: “Hanging out with my friends and trying to have a normal college experience makes me feel more normal.

“That’s how I like to unwind. We’ll sit down and do little guitar playing sessions, one person will play and the others will sing.

“I also love watching reality TV with my friends. There was one day we spent five hours on the couch and just watched old episodes of America’s Next Top Model.”

The district attorney’s office in Lafourche Parish says the Louisiana State Police’s initial crash report had “several inconsistencies,” rejecting key claims about how the Dec. 2024 wreck unfolded.

In a damning assessment, the DA’s investigator wrote, “The report provided to this office by Louisiana State Police has several inconsistencies which were used to base their opinion and conclusion of the crash.” According to surveillance and crash-scene evidence, police alleged that Lacy was speeding and passed four vehicles in a no-passing zone before returning to his lane — and this maneuver, they argued, triggered a chain reaction that led to the fatal collision.

But prosecutors pushed back. The DA’s report found that when Lacy reentered his correct lane, he did so “well before the crash occurred.” And importantly, they argued that “the evidence submitted in the crash report does not support that Kyren Lacy should have known that his actions were the cause of the crash.”

That statement echoes the claims of Lacy’s defense attorney, Mathew Ory, who told local media: “[Kyren Lacy] had no idea he caused this accident because he didn’t think he caused the accident. He didn’t cause the accident.”

The timing is critical: Lacy died by suicide in April, just days before a grand jury could weigh the case. The police department, in turn, defended its findings, saying it “stands by the findings of its crash investigation,” citing “eyewitness accounts, video evidence, and physical evidence” as the foundation of its conclusions.

This clash between prosecutors and state police reframes the case. Instead of accepting the official narrative, the DA’s office is questioning whether Lacy’s alleged actions truly precipitated the deadly crash — and whether the initial investigation painted a fair picture of what really happened.

The Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale star has admitted that he wasn’t best pleased when Sam, 22, told him that he was dropping out of Columbia University to try his luck in the acting profession.

Alessandro, who has Sam with his wife Emily Mortimer, told People: “I didn’t want him to leave. I tried to talk him out of it and he would have none of it.

“And I think it was really the moment that I just threw up my hands and said, ‘Sam, you know, I just want you to be happy’, that we really started to get along.”

Alessandro has recalled how Sam – who starred in the third season of The White Lotus – dropping out of college was the moment he “really announced” to his parents that he was serious about acting.

The 53-year-old star said: “Since then, it’s just been great, and I’ve watched him go from strength to strength.

“And you know if there’s one thing that I think he’s really benefitted from growing up with two actors… it’s just having spent so much time on sets and watching us do stuff like this.

“So, when it sort of started to come to him, it wasn’t a novel experience. He’d at least had a glimpse of it as a very young guy.”

Alessandro previously suggested that he and his pal Ethan Hawke were planning to make movie that would star both of their sons as younger versions of themselves.

The Brutalist star said: “Ethan Hawke and I have been cooking up this movie called Satan Is Real about a pair of brothers called the Louvin Brothers.

“And then we were thinking that now that Sam and (Ethan’s son), Levon Hawke, are becoming stars, that the best way for us to green light the movie will be to write in a section that has us as younger versions.”

Meanwhile, Sam previously revealed that he was glad not to have relied on parents to get acting jobs.

Asked about being a “nepo baby”, he told Variety: “Other than my genes, I don’t think I can attribute much of my success to my parents. I feel proud that I’ve done it for myself, and sometimes in spite of them.

“[With my first role] I didn’t get my dad’s agent to call up so-and-so. I did it by myself. I didn’t want to give anyone an excuse to be able to say that anything I’ve achieved has been because of anyone other than me. And I’m proud of that.”

The former One Direction singer tragically died at the age of 31 in October 2024 after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina and the influencer has revealed that she fell into a deep depression in the aftermath.

Kate told Page Six at a National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) benefit: “I was always just kind of doing nothing and just dealing with that grief and pain, just not wanting to really live my life.”

She explained that it took her several weeks to realise that she needed to restore a sense of structure to her life again.

Cassidy said: “I finally realised, ok, I need to live my life, I need to get up, get out of bed.”

The 26-year-old influencer recalled how she started by setting an alarm to get out of bed one hour earlier each day and began “working out” and “eating clean” and continues to do so for the sake of her mental health.

She said: “I like to always be up early, have a workout class planned, go for a nice walk, eat cleaner. I feel like, for me, being active, always keeps my mind so much cleaner and healthier.”

Kate paid a touching tribute to Liam ahead of the first anniversary of his passing next week as she described him as “the best person I ever met”.

The influencer said: “He lit up any room. He was just so sweet, so funny. I’ve never met anybody like him, and I’m sure I probably won’t ever meet anybody like him in my life.

“In a way, I am actually glad that he’s just going to be that one person. He was the best person I ever met.”

Meanwhile, Liam’s One Direction bandmate Louis Tomlinson described his death as “unjust and frustrating” earlier this week and confessed that the What Makes You Beautiful band’s upcoming 15th anniversary felt “uncomfortable” in the wake of the tragedy.

Speaking to Rolling Stone UK magazine, Louis said: “It was really uncomfortable, actually, the 15th anniversary, because the [collective] feeling to celebrate is as important, if not more important than ever, on behalf of Liam.”

Louis – who was put together in 1D with Liam, Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik on The X Factor UK – admitted marking the band’s formation in the past made him feel “sick of nostalgia”, but doing so earlier this year “brought up those feelings” he’s been dealing with since his friend’s death.

He added: “You know, there’s still a level in my head [where it feels] unjust and frustrating that he’s not with us anymore.

“So, it just brought up those feelings, although I’m still living with them anyway.”

At the time, Eva felt a responsibility to support Tony through his sporting career. However, she also pushed back against stereotypes of so-called WAGs.

The actress – who is now married to producer Jose Baston – said: “It’s hard when you’re married to an athlete because the world idolises them. There’s an assumption that goes with being a wife or a girlfriend is that you’re a gold digger, you don’t have a job, you just want to look pretty and spend money.

“It was like, ‘Ugh how can you have a job?’ Your job is to support your husband.”

Meanwhile, Eva previously claimed that she always thought she’d become a success in Hollywood.

The actress has enjoyed a hugely successful career, starring in shows such as Desperate Housewives and Only Murders in the Building, and Eva revealed that she never doubted her own talent.

The brunette beauty told Byrdie: “When I look at the longevity I’ve had in this industry, it makes sense to me.

“Of course, I’m going to work as hard as I can at whatever I do, and it just happens to be in this industry. I knew I’d be successful because I was surrounded by successful women – my mother, sisters, and aunts were independent, strong, smart, and charitable. They were everything I wanted to be.”

Eva’s self-belief has actually helped her to navigate the pitfalls of Hollywood.

She explained: “I remember the first time I was on a billboard and somebody said to me, ‘Oh my god, who would have thought?’ And I said, ‘Me. I thought it. I dreamt it’. If you don’t champion yourself, who else is going to? That unwavering belief in yourself will take you so far.”

‘Monster’ Offers Fans the ‘Mindhunter’ Crossover We Didn’t Know We Needed

In the final episode of Monster: The Ed Gein Story, “The Godfather,” audiences are transported back to the 1970s and confronted with a new kind of monster. A predator ahead of his time, this murderous figure targets young women and is known by the moniker “the Pacific Northwest Killer.”

His telltale light yellow VW bug, the cast on his arm, and his deceptive charm identify him as Ted Bundy (John T. O’Brien), though at this point in the story, his true identity remains a mystery. The narrative then shifts to a nearby prison, where FBI agents John Douglas and Robert Ressler (Sean Carrigan and Caleb Ruminer) interview Jerry Brudos (Happy Anderson), the serial killer infamously dubbed the “Shoe Fetish Slayer.”

For fans of the series Mindhunter, these agents are the real-life pioneers who traveled the country interviewing serial killers in an effort to understand their psyches. Along with Ann Burgess (Megan Ketch), they question Brudos, who claims that Ed Gein (Charlie Hunnam) inspired his murders.

Seem familiar? The trio was also the inspiration for their Mindhunter counterparts: Holden Ford, Bill Tench, and Dr. Wendy Carr (Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, and Anna Torv).

In the Monster miniseries, the FBI go to Gein for his help to catch the killer, and he provides insight into the mind of a serial killer. In reality, Gein was arrested in 1957, long before the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit was established in the early 1970s. There is no record of Gein ever being formally interviewed by the FBI. But while he never worked with the FBI, his crimes indirectly influenced the later study of serial killers.

However, the shout-out to the much-beloved Netflix series goes beyond just a passing reference to the FBI agents. In addition to the nod to the Mindhunter trio in the Ed Gein story, Anderson reprises his role as Jerry Brudos, a character he originally played in Mindhunter, serving as a clever Easter egg for fans. The crossover not only acknowledges the series’ devoted following but also ties the two portrayals together in a way that rewards attentive viewers.

Recently, there has been a little buzz about a possible third season for the series, which was canceled six years ago. In an an interview with CBR, Mindhunter star Holt McCallany, the actor tease a possible return: “So look, you know, I had a meeting with David Fincher in his office a few months ago, and he said to me that there is a chance that it may come back as three two-hour movies, but I think it’s just a chance…I know there are writers that are working, but you know, David has to be happy with scripts.”

So, is Monster testing the waters of interest in a possible return of Mindhunter?

For the past month, the Women’s Rugby World Cup has been played across stadiums in England. The Princess of Wales, patron of England’s men’s and women’s national rugby teams, has only been to one match during the month-long tournament. Her husband, who is patron of the Welsh national rugby teams, has also only been to one match this month. They went to separate matches on the same day so they wouldn’t have to attend another event together. While the Welsh women didn’t do so great in the World Cup, England’s Red Roses battled their way to the final. And guess what? They WON! Another English women’s team winning a major championship! You would expect their royal patron to be there, at the World Cup-winning match, right? Well, Kate couldn’t be bothered. She sent them a good-luck tweet before the final

And that was it. This match was in LONDON, at the Allianz Stadium. The final got historic crowds for women’s rugby. There’s a huge boom for women’s rugby right now following some amazing matches at last year’s Paris Olympics. Meaning, there’s never been more interest in the sport, and it would have been amazing for England’s Red Roses to have their royal patron there, cheering them on AT HOME. Like, Prince William was lazy as hell and sexist as hell for not flying to Australia to support the Lionesses in the Women’s World Cup final in 2023, but at least you could say “well, it would have taken a lot of time and effort to fly to Australia last-minute.” William still should have done it, don’t get me wrong. But it’s absolutely insane that Kate was too f–king lazy to go to London for this major moment in women’s rugby, women’s sports and English sports. Kate literally had ONE day of work last week. This happened on a Saturday too, there was no school run to divide her precious attention. But hey, she tweeted her congratulations after the match. She didn’t sign it “-C” so the message was done by staff.
