Quentin Tarantino Films Cut ‘Kill Bill’ Scene in Fortnite

by jummy84 November 30, 2025
written by jummy84

If you thought Quentin Tarantino didn’t have even more to add to “Kill Bill” and make the film any longer, think again.

Tarantino is set to release possibly his greatest movie, “Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair,” which is a four-plus-hour cut of “Kill Bill” combined as one film, in theaters next month. It includes an un-seen anime sequence that wasn’t even in the original Cannes cut of “Kill Bill,” but that wasn’t the only thing he had previously left on the cutting room floor.

There was yet another chapter of the film that Tarantino wrote for the very first draft of his film, but he trimmed it and the sequence was never filmed. Now, more than 20 years after the release of both “Kill Bill” movies, Tarantino has turned to an unusual means to bring his vision of this lost “Kill Bill” scene to life: the massively popular video game “Fortnite.”

Tarantino using “Fortnite’s” game engine Unreal Engine directed a motion-captured short film that reunites him with Uma Thurman, reprising her role as The Bride. The sequence effectively fills in a gap in the lore of “Kill Bill” that had not previously been seen on screen. So yes, even though the short features Fortnite’s banana character Peely, this new short can be considered canon in Tarantino’s cinematic universe.

The short is called “The Lost Chapter: Yuki’s Revenge,” and is set after the Bride takes down the ball-and-chain wielding killer Gogo Yubari. Now, we see the Bride battle Yubari’s twin sister Yuki. After a split-screen sequence of Yuki arriving in Hollywood “Battlewood” and even surveilling The Bride outside Vernita Green’s home, Yuki confronts The Bride, still driving the Pussy Wagon truck, and aims to gun her down.

Battlewood in ‘Fortnite: After Dark’

What ensues is an elaborate shoot-em-up and car chase in which Yuki, in this version, ultimately dies not a bloody death but a blue, pixel-y one before she’s beamed up and set to be respawned, “Fortnite” style.

Unlike an animated sequence that just features Thurman’s voice, Tarantino is actually directing Thurman as dressed and photographed with a motion-capture helmet cam, and her performance and the whole sequence was rendered in Unreal Engine as though it were an in-game cinematic.

“Fortnite” intends to premiere “Yuki’s Revenge” as part of its latest season of gameplay, Chapter 7. “Fortnite” for this new season has a Hollywood theme, and rather than stage a virtual concert in the digital “Fortnite” lobbies as they’ve done before, the “Yuki’s Revenge” scene acts as a brand-new Quentin Tarantino film making its world premiere in the game. Players who log on can watch the film on November 30 at 2 p.m. ET.

Speaking at a special “Fortnite” event from Tarantino’s own Vista Theater in Los Angeles on November 19, Tarantino explained that the reason the Yuki fight scene was cut from his draft was because the movie was already shaping up to be over four hours long, and it was too much to have both the Gogo Yubari battle and the Yuki battle in the same film.

‘Fortnite: After Dark’

He clarified that, even though the fight was cut from the film, in his mind, we’re to assume the fight still happened as part of The Bride’s journey, even though we never saw it. In fact, an actual take used in “Kill Bill” outside Vernita’s home has the sound of an ice cream truck jingle in the background, and Tarantino used that take to suggest that someone, in this case Yuki, was secretly watching The Bride all along.

Tarantino was asked at the event if he would ever consider making another film in “Fortnite” or utilizing some other animation techniques in order to create some of the spinoff ideas he’s been teasing over the years, and he suggested there could be some future where it helps him craft an origin story for Bill or a side project about the Vega brothers as seen in “Reservoir Dogs” and “Pulp Fiction.”

While it means that we’ll soon see players running around “Fortnite” Battle Royales in skins as The Bride or Gogo Yubari, Tarantino praised the “Fortnite” team for wanting to help him create something he had lingering, rather than have him come up with something entirely new that featured some of his iconic characters.

“I always wanted it to see the light of day, and now it has,” Tarantino said at the event.

ECOsmart by Greengage launches The Conscious Pledge to cut industry single-use plastics

by jummy84 November 20, 2025
written by jummy84

ECOsmart by Greengage has launched The Conscious Pledge, a new industry-wide initiative to eliminate single-use plastic gifts and packaging amongst the events, business travel, and accommodation community.

The campaign encourages venues, hotels, and agencies to ‘swap plastic for purpose’ by replacing giveaways with meaningful alternatives such as charitable donations or time spent supporting environmental initiatives.

The launch comes as global concern around plastic waste continues to rise. According to UNEP (2023), around 85% of single-use plastic packaging ends up in landfill or as unregulated waste, and by 2025, as much as 199 million tonnes of plastic will be in our oceans.

The Conscious Pledge invites organisations to commit to stop giving and receiving plastic gifts during meetings with each other. They will receive a Conscious Pledge campaign pack with guidance and messaging to help make the transition easy. Businesses can also display their Conscious Pledge badge to inspire others to follow suit.

Greengage CEO Andrew Perolls said: “As an industry, we have the power to make small changes that add up to a big difference – for our oceans, for our health, and for the example we set to clients. The Conscious Pledge makes it simple to take positive action and play a part.”

Early supporters – including Clarity Business Travel, Warwick Conferences, Inntel, Edgbaston Park Hotel, If Only, Elegant Resorts, and Church House Westminster – have already pledged to remove single-use plastics from all partner interactions.

Kirsty Given, Clarity Business Travel’s Director of Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability, commented: “Our people, customers, and suppliers expect us to demonstrate sustainability in our own organisational choices, and committing to The Conscious Pledge is a simple, practical way for us to show that our responsible practice includes the small, everyday decisions. Those small changes can create powerful ripple effects; we want to be part of that momentum and encourage the entire industry to do the same.”

Justine Meek, Warwick Conferences’ Agency Relationship manager added: “We like the campaign because it aligns perfectly with our commitment to reducing industry waste. Through the Conscious Pledge we will be taking meaningful steps to address our contribution to the global issue of single-use plastic. Too often, single-use items such as merchandise are brought and used briefly before being discarded, adding to the amount of unnecessary waste. By supporting this campaign, we are choosing to make changes that can create a lasting impact for the future.”

The Conscious Pledge is open to hotels, venues, event and venue-finding agencies, and travel management companies which want to demonstrate a commitment to reducing waste and protecting the environment.

Deep Cut Friday: ‘3,000 Miles’ by Tracy Chapman

by jummy84 November 14, 2025
written by jummy84

Each week, SPIN digs into the catalogs of great artists and highlights songs you might not know for our Deep Cut Friday series.

Tracy Chapman’s most famous singles appear on her 1988 self-titled debut and 1995’s New Beginning, but all of the veteran singer-songwriter’s eight albums contain great songs. 2005’s Where You Live is an unheralded gem of her catalog, her only album produced by Tchad Blake. Blake’s productions for artists like Los Lobos, Soul Coughing, and Cibo Matto often feature eclectic instrumentation and thumping percussion. And his work on Where You Live is subtle and sensitive, furnishing Chapman’s songs with lush, inventive arrangements.

The longest and quietest song on Where You Live, “3,000 Miles,” is subtle but gripping. Over nearly six minutes, Chapman describes a dangerous world in ominous terms: “Good girls walk in groups of three, fast girls walk slow on side streets / Sometimes the girls who walk alone aren’t found for days or weeks.” Textures swirl around her voice, including lap steel guitar by Joe Gore, upright bass by David Pilch, organ by Blake’s frequent collaborator Mitchell Froom, and Chapman herself on guitar, clarinet, and glockenspiel. The imagery in the lyrics gets progressively more violent, bullets flying and apples filled with razor blades, but outside of a gentle handclap rhythm by Chapman and drummer Quinn Smith, there’s no percussion on the song, and the volume never rises. The refrain “I’m 3,000 miles away” feels like a mantra or a prayer, whether the narrator has physically left her volatile surroundings or is still there, dreaming of a distant sanctuary.

The fan newsletter Tracy Chapman in Depth is going through Chapman’s catalog one track at a time, and in July a thoughtful post examined “3,000 Miles,” noting that the song was nearly the title track of Chapman’s 2005 album. That piece includes excerpts from an interview where Chapman explained that the song was inspired by growing up in Ohio, in the tense period after the state’s schools were desegregated in 1976. “It’s a part of my story and partly the story of little girls who in some way are endangered in an environment that’s not supportive. They manage to escape, maybe just in their state of minds. As a little girl, I often had to walk home from school. It was like going through a minefield,” Chapman told the U.K. newspaper The Sun in 2005.

Three more essential Tracy Chapman deep cuts:

“Behind the Wall”

Chapman sings “Behind the Wall” with no instrumental accompaniment, forcing you to focus on her lyrics, which detail law enforcement’s failure to prevent domestic violence. Chapman’s self-titled album was a major influence on Tori Amos, whose own solo debut included “Me and a Gun,” a similarly chilling a cappella song telling her story of being raped in her early 20s.

“Open Arms”

Soul music great Bobby Womack played guitar on “Open Arms,” a tender love song from 1992’s Matters of the Heart. The song was never released as a single, but Chapman performed it on The Tonight Show and featured it on her 2015 Greatest Hits collection.

“Nothing Yet”

Chapman achieves a rare feat on “Nothing Yet” from her 2000 album Telling Stories, building the song’s electric guitar and hand drum arrangement around a 5/4 time signature without calling attention to the track’s unusual rhythm, making it feel more like a simple waltz.

Deep Cut Friday: ‘B Side Wins Again’ by Public Enemy

by jummy84 November 8, 2025
written by jummy84

Each week, SPIN digs into the catalogs of great artists and highlights songs you might not know for our Deep Cut Friday series.

Vinyl singles have historically featured the most accessible and radio-friendly song on the A side, but every now and again, DJs and music fans have flipped the record over and decided they preferred the B side, elevating classics like the Smiths’ “How Soon Is Now?” and Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive.” Chuck D, who played records for groundbreaking hip-hop shows on the Adelphi University radio station WBAU and on WLIR, made that dynamic the basis of the Public Enemy track “B Side Wins Again.” In the song’s central metaphor, Black America is the overlooked flipside of the country’s white mainstream culture.

Appropriately, “B Side Wins Again” made its debut on the B side of Public Enemy’s 1989 single “Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos.” As with many of Public Enemy’s songs of the era, “B Side Wins Again” is a dense collage of samples, with the Bomb Squad assembling shards of songs by the Commodores, Kool & the Gang, and the Jazz Crusaders. A year later, a slightly remixed version of “B Side Wins Again” gained greater renown on Public Enemy’s third album Fear of a Black Planet, where it appropriately follows an instrumental titled “Leave This Off Your Fuckin’ Charts.”

Public Enemy revisited the song with “B Side Wins Again (Scattershot Remix)” on the 2002 album Revolverlution. Three years later, Chuck D guested on DJ Spooky and Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo’s version of “B Side Wins Again” for their album Drums of Death. In June 2025, Public Enemy began working the song into their concert setlists for the first time in over a decade, with Chuck D rapping just the fourth verse of “B Side Wins Again” during a show in Florence, Italy.

Three more essential Public Enemy deep cuts:

“Timebomb”

By the time Public Enemy’s debut album Yo! Bum Rush the Show was released in 1987, most hip-hop songs had adopted a structure of 16-bar verses in between choruses. “Timebomb,” however, was Chuck D’s old school tour de force, with 66 consecutive bars and no hook.

“Security of the First World”

Public Enemy never scored a Top Ten single, but they influenced a lot of popular music. “Security of the First World,” a brief instrumental from 1988’s It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, became the basis of a No. 1 pop hit when Lenny Kravitz sampled it for Madonna’s 1990 single “Justify My Love.”

“Move!”

Bronx rapper Sister Souljah replaced Professor Griff as Public Enemy’s ‘Minister of Information’ and made her on-record debut on “Move!” from Apocalypse 91… The Enemy Strikes Black. A year later, Sister Souljah released a solo album, and her comments to the Washington Post about the L.A. riots became a flashpoint of controversy during Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign.

bitchy | Jobson: Prince William asked to ‘cut back’ on work last year, Charles said ‘think again’

by jummy84 November 4, 2025
written by jummy84

A consistent undercurrent of royal gossip in recent years is that King Charles thinks that Prince William is lazy, but not only that – William is undignified as well. Charles doesn’t care for William’s half-assed attempts to be relatable or talk about his feelings. Charles thinks it’s unbecoming for the heir to the throne to cosplay a football hooligan or a bloke down at the pub. And I can only imagine Charles’s reaction to these undignified photos of William playing beach volleyball in Rio de Janeiro. These are not the ideal images for a future (Scooter) king. Of course, that scooter wasn’t an ideal image either, but I digress. Royal biographer Robert Jobson has a new book called The Windsor Legacy. Jobson has been “aligned” more with Charles and Camilla’s side of things for many years, and so you should take many of the excerpts from this book as Charles and Camilla narrating certain things. Notably, “sources” told Jobson that William was desperate to cut back his schedule in 2024:

How Charles has changed after his cancer diagnosis: He’s changed some of the habits that once seemed set in stone – largely due to advice from Dr Michael Dixon, a seasoned NHS GP and advocate of complementary medicine who was appointed head of the Royal Medical Household after Queen Elizabeth’s death. William, too, has urged his father to slow down and listen to his medical team. So Charles now takes regular afternoon naps. And he’s started having lunch again – often spinach soup – after skipping the meal for most of his life.

Charles was in a lot of pain before his diagnosis: Before being diagnosed with cancer, he’d been typically stoical about his mounting levels of pain. Months before, his condition had worsened so dramatically, says a senior royal aide, that a doctor was summoned. The King was given morphine (one of the strongest painkillers available), fitted with a catheter and taken to Aberdeen Hospital. The cancer, however, was not discovered until a few months later, in January last year, while doctors were in the process of treating the King for an enlarged prostate. A few weeks down the line, it was announced that the Princess of Wales was also suffering from an unnamed cancer. Having two leading members of the Royal Family struck down at once seemed a malign twist of fate – and Prince William was shaken to the core.

William goes to church more, despite all evidence to the contrary: As the year progressed, both he and Catherine became more religious. Never known as a regular worshipper, William now attends church more frequently than in the past, though as privately as possible.

William asked to do fewer events: Last year, he also told his father that he wanted to cut his own official royal engagements back to ten for the rest of 2024. But the King refused his request. ‘Think again,’ he urged.

Kate’s “cancer-free” video last summer: In September 2024, in a polished video directed by Will Warr, Catherine revealed that she had completed chemotherapy and hoped to remain cancer-free. The footage showed the Wales family affectionately enjoying time together in Norfolk, on the beach and in the woods, and many found it moving. Queen Camilla’s reaction? She was deeply relieved, of course, at Catherine’s recovery. But according to a senior Household source, she also joked with friends – very much tongue-in-cheek – that the video was ‘like a shampoo commercial’.

Underlying tension: These days, William and his father generally work well together. The King happily consults him, and largely trusts him to do what is right. But there is often an underlying tension between them. It doesn’t help that both have a fiery temper that’s not always held in check. Working for Charles, some staff say, can be like ‘treading on eggshells’. As for William, Palace sources recall all too well an incident when the prince was over-assertive with his father – over a matter that William had completely misinterpreted. Even senior aides are known to tread lightly around the prince, mindful of his mood swings before attempting to raise sensitive issues. William may always appear to be composed in public, but insiders describe him as occasionally ‘difficult to handle’.

[From The Daily Mail]

I love sitting back and watching Charles get the heir he deserves. Charles’s failings as a father writ large have set the stage for all of this – William’s laziness and rage, Harry’s exile, and an institution which is mostly limping along, collapsing in on itself in slow motion. Not to blame everything on Charles though – William is horrible and that’s on him. He’s a man in his 40s who recently had some kind of breakdown because… his brother visited England and did some charity work. Anyway, it’s just funny to watch these two men try to out-petty one another.

Deep Cut Friday: ‘All We Ever Wanted Was Everything’ by Bauhaus

by jummy84 November 2, 2025
written by jummy84

Each week, SPIN digs into the catalogs of great artists and highlights songs you might not know for our Deep Cut Friday series.

Many artists have made songs popularly associated with Halloween, from Michael Jackson to Oingo Boingo. But there’s perhaps no band whose entire catalog suits spooky season better than British goth rock trailblazers Bauhaus, whose founding guitarist Daniel Ash is releasing a new project today. The band’s 1979 debut single “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” remains their signature song, but over the years, the more subdued “All We Ever Wanted Was Everything” has emerged as one of their most popular tracks.

The third Bauhaus album, 1982’s The Sky’s Gone Out, was the band’s highest charting release, reaching No. 4 in the U.K. The band largely wrote the album in the studio, ending up with a more diverse and eclectic set of songs including “All We Ever Wanted Was Everything.” The track’s lyrics are as cryptic as any Bauhaus song (“The sound of the drum has called / Flash of youth shoot out of darkness”), but the acoustic arrangement is lush and moving. Bassist David J wrote in his 2014 memoir Who Killed Mr. Moonlight?: Bauhaus, Black Magic and Benediction that the song “evokes nostalgic memories of a time of innocence and naïve yearning.”

“Spirit” was the only single released from The Sky’s Gone Out, but with time, “All We Ever Wanted Was Everything” has become by far the album’s most famous track. It’s been featured in a 2018 episode of The Walking Dead and the 2011 film I Melt with You, and covered by MGMT, John Frusciante, and Xiu Xiu. The first time Bauhaus reunited in 1998, Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins joined the band onstage in Chicago to perform “All We Ever Wanted Was Everything.”

Three more essential Bauhaus deep cuts:

“Double Dare”

The members of Bauhaus struggled to record a studio version of “Double Dare” that measured up to a live performance they’d done for John Peel’s BBC 1 Radio program. So the band opted to simply open its debut album, 1980’s In the Flat Field, with the Peel Session version of “Double Dare,” which remains perhaps the most powerful drumming by Kevin Haskins in the Bauhaus catalog.

“In Fear of Fear”

Bauhaus aren’t always remembered as one of the great dance punk bands. But they could whip up a frenzied disco beat on songs like the live staple “In Fear of Fear” from 1981’s Mask, which features squealing synths and Daniel Ash on saxophone.

“Slice of Life”

Bauhaus had broken up by the time 1983’s Burning from the Inside was released, and frontman Peter Murphy’s estrangement from the rest of the group resulted in his bandmates taking on more vocal duties. “Slice of Life,” sung by Ash, feels a little like a preview of Love and Rockets, the band he’d form a few years later with David J and Haskins.

What Employees Are Affected & Which Jobs Are Cut? – Hollywood Life

by jummy84 October 29, 2025
written by jummy84

Amazon confirmed its company-wide layoffs in a statement on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, citing artificial intelligence and the need for “fewer layers” in the business. The announcement came months after Amazon announced a five-day return-to-office requirement. However, the company’s latest statement vowed that its “reductions” are Amazon’s path to “get even stronger by further reducing bureaucracy, removing layers and shifting resources to ensure we’re investing in our biggest bets and what matters most to our customers’ current and future needs.”

The layoffs are coming right on the heels of the widespread Amazon Web Services outage that impacted banks, airlines and multiple online platforms earlier this month.

Below, find out which jobs are being cut and why.

How Many Layoffs Are Happening at Amazon?

About 14,000 jobs are being cut at Amazon, Senior Vice President of People Experience and Technology at Amazon Beth Galetti announced on October 28, 2025. However, Reuters reported that the figure is actually higher, with about 30,000 jobs going down. The outlet cited three sources familiar with the situation.

According to Galetti’s announcement, Amazon is offering “most employees 90 days to look for a new role internally (the timing will vary some based on local laws), and [its] recruiting teams will prioritize internal candidates to help as many people as possible find new roles within Amazon.”

Amazon is reportedly planning to cut up to 14,000 corporate jobs, its largest round of layoffs since 2022, impacting about 10% of its corporate workforce. @RebeccaJarvis reports. pic.twitter.com/r9bt7ZSm4E

— Good Morning America (@GMA) October 28, 2025

For those unable to land another role at the company, Galetti said Amazon will offer “transition support including severance pay, outplacement services, health insurance benefits and more.”

What Amazon Job Cuts Happened From the Layoffs?

Although Amazon’s statement on the layoffs did not specify which job titles are being cut, multiple corporate areas were already announced to be in the process of layoffs earlier the year. Per CNBC, jobs in sales operations, marketing and global service organizations in the Amazon Web Services cloud unit were being eliminated. Additionally, roles in Human Resources were also reportedly being cut or were at risk of being eliminated.

Why Is Amazon Having Layoffs Now?

Galetti said that the job cuts are happening because “the world is changing quickly” and “this generation of AI is the most transformative technology we’ve seen since the Internet, and it’s enabling companies to innovate much faster than ever before (in existing market segments and altogether new ones).”

She further explained that Amazon intends to be “organized more leanly, with fewer layers and more ownership, to move as quickly as possible for our customers and business.”

Deep Cut Friday: ‘State Trooper’ by Bruce Springsteen

by jummy84 October 26, 2025
written by jummy84

Each week, SPIN digs into the catalogs of great artists and highlights songs you might not know for our Deep Cut Friday series.

Bruce Springsteen’s sixth album Nebraska was a pivot away from the spotlight, released in between two hit-filled blockbuster albums, 1980’s The River and 1984’s Born in the U.S.A. Living in relative seclusion in Colts Neck, New Jersey, in 1981, Springsteen documented his new songs with a four-track recorder, making stark acoustic demos that he decided could be an album unto itself. Nebraska was critically acclaimed and modestly successful, eventually going platinum, and became a cornerstone of Springsteen’s artistic legacy. In the last few weeks, Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere hit theaters, with Jeremy Allen White playing the Boss during the creation of Nebraska, and Springsteen released an expanded reissue of the album.

Bruce Springsteen’s affinity for the New York punk scene may have surprised a few people at the time. The Phil Spector-inspired maximalism and romance of Born to Run was a far cry from the grit of the CBGBs bands, but he did take note of what was happening across the Hudson River. In 1978, Patti Smith and Springsteen co-wrote her biggest hit “Because the Night,” and two years later Springsteen nearly gave away one of his signature songs, “Hungry Heart,” to the Ramones. The CBGBs band that inspired Springsteen the most, though, was Suicide, the duo of Martin Rev and Alan Vega. One of Nebraska’s darkest tracks, “State Trooper,” was directly influenced by “Frankie Teardrop,” the 10-minute centerpiece of Suicide’s 1977 self-titled debut.

“Frankie Teardrop,” built on Rev’s eerie synthesizers and ticking drum machine, is about a suicidal factory worker. “State Trooper,” with a simple guitar-and-vocal arrangement, is about a man driving a stolen car and hoping not to get pulled over. Despite the very different instrumentation, the two songs share an eerie, paranoid atmosphere and intense, heavily reverbed vocal performances. “Deliver me from nowhere,” Springsteen softly sings before “State Trooper” ends with a startling howl reminiscent of Alan Vega’s vocal on the climax of “Frankie Teardrop.”

In 2005, Springsteen began covering Suicide’s 1979 single “Dream Baby Dream” in concert, eventually recording it for his 2014 album High Hopes. Vega died in 2016, and last year, Springsteen wrote the foreword for Laura Davis-Chanin and Liz Lamere’s biography Infinite Dreams: The Life of Alan Vega. “‘Frankie Teardrop’ – that was incredible. That might be his greatest piece of work right there,” Springsteen wrote. “It was something I really related to. And definitely inspired the way I wrote ‘State Trooper.’”

Three more essential Bruce Springsteen deep cuts:

“It’s Hard to Be a Saint in the City”

The closing track on Springsteen’s 1973 debut Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. was the song that convinced Mike Appel to be the young singer’s manager and was part of the audition that got him signed to Columbia Records. One of Springsteen’s earliest famous fans was David Bowie, who recorded a cover of “It’s Hard to Be a Saint in the City” in 1973, though it wouldn’t be released until 1989.

“Candy’s Room”

The fourth track on Darkness of the Edge of Town is the E Street Band at its most cinematic, Max Weinberg’s 16th note hi-hats and Roy Bittan’s surging piano constantly driving the song’s energy further and further upward.

“Bobby Jean”

One of Springsteen’s oldest friends, Steven Van Zandt, left the E Street Band shortly before the release of Born in the U.S.A. to focus on his solo career. The album featured “Bobby Jean,” a bittersweet song about friendship that’s been widely interpreted as a tribute to Van Zandt.

Cvent and enviricard® Partner to Cut Event Badge Carbon Emissions by 57%

Cvent, a market-leading meetings, events, and hospitality technology provider, has announced a new sustainability-focused partnership with enviricard®, expanding its suite of environmentally responsible event solutions. The collaboration, available to customers using Cvent OnArrival 360, empowers event organisers to reduce badge waste and align their programmes with corporate sustainability goals. The eco-badge solution will be showcased this week at Cvent CONNECT Europe, the company’s annual customer conference taking place in London and online.

Through the Cvent and enviricard partnership, each badge is produced from Invercote® paperboard, sourced from responsibly managed Nordic forests and manufactured at Holmen Iggesund’s EcoVadis Platinum-rated mill. The paperboard is FSC-certified, biodegradable, compostable, and fully recyclable.

Badges are printed using Ricoh’s sustainable European digital print network, which enables full-colour, high-quality printing while minimising energy use and waste. Together, these practices deliver a 57% reduction in overall carbon emissions compared to traditional PVC cards.

Sustainability: A Growing Expectation for Events

The Amex GBT 2026 Global Meetings & Events Forecast found that 40% of event attendees expect visible sustainability measures, while “improving sustainability initiatives” ranks among top priorities for meeting planners in 2026. In the report, Amex GBT Meetings & Events Head of Sustainability, Eloísa Urrutia, notes:

“Sustainability is a business and social imperative, but it is also personal. It’s emotive, drives loyalty, and inspires. Post-event surveys consistently show that well-executed sustainability ranks among the top drivers of attendee engagement.”

While event technology has already helped reduce the carbon footprint of meetings and travel programmes, badge waste has remained a persistent challenge. This partnership directly addresses that issue with a plastic-free, paper-based alternative.

“Our customers are increasingly focused on delivering sustainable events that reflect their brand values, and these partnerships offer a simple, tangible way to achieve sustainability goals,” said Andreas Heckmann, Cvent Chief Customer Officer. “Whether it’s using recyclable materials or keeping badge waste out of landfills, we’re helping our customers take meaningful steps toward their corporate responsibility goals without adding complexity to their planning.”

Availability

The new eco-badge offering is available now and complements Cvent’s existing sustainable badging options, including just-in-time badge printing, biodegradable vinyl holders and lanyards made from 100% recycled PET plastic.

Availability and production methods may vary by region, based on local printing and recycling infrastructure.
