Following the success of her debut film Saiyaara, Aneet Padda has been cast as the lead in Shakti Shalini, the sixth installment of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU). Fans first caught a glimpse of her character in the post-credits scene of Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna. The scene introduced a mysterious woman in a white lehenga, floating mid-air in a dense forest, her long braid swaying in the wind. While her face wasn’t visible, viewers quickly speculated that it was Aneet, signaling her grand entry into the horror-comedy franchise.

Ayushmann Khurrana welcomed her to the MHCU via Instagram stories, writing, “Welcome to the MHCU @aneetpadda_ Punjabi aa gaye oye!! From one dreamer to another—keep chasing what you want. Nothing is impossible… so proud to see someone from Punjab making us all proud. Can’t wait to see you shine in Shakti Shalini! Onwards and upwards, Aneet.” The post garnered excitement among fans, celebrating Aneet’s addition to the popular franchise.

Ayushmann Khurrana Instagram Story

Initially, reports had suggested Kiara Advani might play the lead, but it was Aneet Padda, lauded for her screen presence and emotional depth in Saiyaara, who ultimately secured the role. In the film, she is introduced as “Shakti Shalini — the creator, the destroyer, and the mother of all.” Director Amar Kaushik shared that while developing the script, they realised a younger actor was needed, and Aneet’s performance in Saiyaara made her the perfect fit.

“5 floors. 4 neighbors. 3 cops. 2 bodies. 1 night.” Can you handle the pressure? Vertical unveiled the official trailer for an indie film titled Bunny, a dark comedy set in New York City. This first premiered at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival earlier this year in the Narrative Competition section, though it didn’t win any awards. Two best friends rally the spunky neighbors of their tenement building to help them hide a dead body and get through the night. The first feature directed by actor Ben Jacobson, who also co-stars. It was shot on location right in the big city. Over one wild, sweltering summer day & night in their East Village tenement, streetwise hustler Bunny and his best friend Dino scheme with a crew of eccentric neighbors to cover up a dead body. Chaos reigns as the clock ticks and the heat rises… Starring Mo Stark, Ben Jacobson, Liza Colby, and Tony Drazan. This looks like a knock off version of Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing also this year.

Thamma is the latest addition to the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. The film is successfully running in theaters and getting major buzz from the audience. One of the most talked-about aspects of the movie is the cameo appearances of other major characters from the universe. These cameo appearances connect Thamma with the other films from the MHCU. In this article, we will discuss all the cameos from the Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna starrer.

Bhediya (Varun Dhawan)

One of the most impactful cameo appearances in Thamma was Varun Dhawan’s Bhediya. Dhawan’s werewolf, aka Bhaskar, was seen engaged in a heated confrontation with Ayushmaan’s character. The audience loved the new, enhanced version of Bhediya, and the cameo felt gigantic in the film. This cameo has even generated significant buzz for the next installment of the Bhediya movie.

Elvis Karim Prabhakar (Sathyaraj)

Elvis Karim Prabhakar appeared in Munjya and played a significant role in capturing the evil power. Sathyaraj’s character also had a brief cameo in Thamma. He was the one aware of the existence of Vetaals and their heated rivalry with Bhediyas. Elvis also asserted to Alok’s father that he would remain a Vetaal for the rest of his life, leading to Paresh Rawal’s character accepting the fate of his son, Alok (Ayushmann).

Jana (Abhishek Banerjee)

Abhishek Banerjee’s Jana also had a cameo role in Thamma. In the film, Jana was seen in a conversation with Elvis Karim, expressing his concern about Bhaskar’s failure to transform into Bhediya.

During this scene, Jana came across Alok and even called him Bittu, his friend from Stree Universe. This reference to Bittu comes from the real-life story, as Ayushmann Khurrana and Aparshakti Khurrana, aka Bittu, are brothers in reality.

Sarkata (Sunil Kumar/Akshay Kumar)

Sarkata from the Stree Universe appears at the end of Thamma, where he rescues Yakshasan from the Vetaals. Although some fans are convinced that the Sarkata in Thamma is a version of Akshay Kumar’s character who was seen drinking from a lava pot at the end of Stree 2, it is not officially known whether the Sarkata seen in Thamma was Sunil Kumar’s version of the character or Akshay’s. However, it is likely that Thamma leads to a potential alliance between Sarkata and Yakshasan. The cameo from Sarkata in provides an excellent ending to Maddock’s latest film.

Nora Fatehi’s Special Cameo

Additionally, Nora Fatehi, who first appeared in the MHCU with the viral Kamariya song from Stree, was featured in another song, titled Dilbar Ki Ankhon Ka, in Thamma. However, her appearance this time was more than just a dance number as Nora was portrayed as one of the Vetaals in the film.

Thamma has proven to be another blockbuster addition to the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. As reported earlier, the film opened to a massive 25.11 crore on the first day, marking the biggest solo opening of Ayushmann Khurrana. However, now the question arises: what’s next for the MHCU after the latest bloody love story?

Aneet Padda’s Shakti Shalini Officially Set To Take MHCU Forward

After Thamma, the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe will present Shakti Shalini. As fans flocked to the theatres to watch Thamma, Maddock Films unveiled the promo of Shakti Shalini on the big screens. The video package confirmed that Saiyaara star Aneet Padda will be part of the cast and play the titular role. The film will be released in theaters on December 24, 2026, and will be part of MHCU’s next chapter.

Will Ayushmann Khurrana’s Alok/Thamma Appear In Bhediya 2?

In addition to Shakti Shalini, the MHCU is also working on Chamunda. Furthermore, the sequel to Bhediya is also set to unfold in the coming years. With the development between Vetaal and Bhediya in Thamma, it’s highly likely that after Thamma, Ayushmaan Khurrana’s Vampire character, will appear next in Bhediya 2.

Even in the end credit scenes of Maddock’s latest film, Bhediya jumped into the territory of Vetaals, giving a massive hint that he will engage in a war with them in Bhediya 2. As Alok is the new Thamma, he has the duty to protect the Vetaal.

This makes it evident that a fight between Alok and Bhediya will unfold in Bhediya 2, further expanding the MHC Universe. Additionally, the newest Thamma requires Bhediya’s blood to enhance his power and halt Yakshasan, which will play a crucial role in escalating their feud.

Sarkata & Yakshasan Sets The Stage For Pehla Mahayudh

The conclusion of the Maddock Supernatural Universe will happen with Pehla Mahayudh and Doosara Mahayudh in 2028. With Sarkata and Yakshasan seemingly allying at the end of Thamma, the MHCU appears to hint that the evil side is already preparing for the endgame.

In the upcoming installments of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, the evil forces and the heroic side will contest each other. As of now, this is the future of MHCU following Thamma. It remains to be seen what development Shakti Shalini will bring to this Saga.

Other Upcoming Films In The Maddock Horror Comedy Universe

The Maddocks’ Supernatural Universe is already set to feature a spin-off. It has been announced that the character of Stree, played by Shraddha Kapoor, will be featured in an animated prequel film, Chhoti Stree, which is set to hit theaters six months before the release of Stree 3.

Furthermore, the animated film will end with a scene from Stree 3. Going forward, the universe will witness Chamunda, Stree 3, and Maha Munjya alongside Shakti Shalini and Bhediya 2 before Pehla and Doosara Mahayudh. The Maddock Horror Comedy Universe is set to end with the final two films.

Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s latest film, Thamma, has finally hit the big screens. The Maddock Horror Comedy Universe’s newest addition is loved by the audience and is getting positive word of mouth from the majority of the audience. However, the ending of the movie left some big questions in the minds of the viewers. The movie’s climax left fans buzzing with questions, especially about Yakshasan’s fate and the surprises in the final moments. Let’s break it all down.

Who rescued Yakshasan in the ending of Thamma?

After getting the powers of Vetaal, Alok Goyal (Ayushmann Khurrana) went on a mission to protect Tadaka (Rashmika Mandanna) from Yakshasan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) and the other members of the Vetaal community. During this, Alok engaged in a heated fight with Yakshasan but suffered a dominating defeat.

However, after getting powers from the deity, Alok’s rebirth took place, and his heart started beating again, something which is different from other Vetaal. Following this, he defeated Yakshasan and emerged as the new Thamma of the Vetaal.

Now, Alok will create a balance between the Humans and the Vetaal. After this, Yakshasan was again captured by the community, but in the end, he escaped from their grasp. The person who rescued Yakshasan was none other than ‘Sarkata’ from the Stree Universe.

Thamma Ending: What happened to Sarkata in the ending of Stree 2?

In the conclusion of Stree 2, Sarkata was destroyed by Stree when they pushed him into the lava after a massive showdown. This ended Sarkata, but in the post-credits, Akshay Kumar, the new potential Thanos of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, drank a pot of lava.

Now, with Sarkata once again emerging in Thamma, it potentially could be the bigger and new monster version of Akshay Kumar’s character. If not this, then Sarkata might still be alive despite being bashed in the lava.

After rescuing Yakshasan, Sarkata could be preparing for a mega fight against the heroic character, which will further develop in the forthcoming films.

Charlie Heaton (“Stranger Things,” “The Souvenir Part II,” “The New Mutants”) and Mia Wasikowska (“Bergman Island,” “Club Zero,” “Alice in Wonderland”) are set to star in romantic comedy “Twice Over,” which Athens-based boutique sales company Heretic has boarded for international sales.

The feature, directed by Alena Lodkina, is an Australian production set to shoot on location in Perth at the end of this year. The film is in pre-production and is supported by Screen Australia. It is described as “an intimate, quietly offbeat story of reconnection and emotional reckoning.”

The film, co-written by Lodkina with Miles Allinson, follows two people whose unexpected reunion stirs long-buried feelings and unspoken uncertainties about love, time and reinvention.

“Twice Over” has been cast by BAFTA and Emmy award winning casting director Shaheen Baig (“Adolescence,” “Black Mirror”).

Acclaimed cinematographer J-P Passi, whose work includes “Compartment No. 6,” “The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki,” “The Last of Us” and “Chernobyl,” is attached to the project.

Lodkina’s previous features – “Strange Colours” (Venice Biennale College at the Venice Film Festival, 2017) and “Petrol” (Locarno Film Festival, 2022; New Directors/New Films 2023) – “established her as one of the most original voices in contemporary Australian cinema, praised for her distinctive blend of realism, mystery and emotional precision,” Heretic said.

“Twice Over” is produced by Kate Glover and Nathan Lewis for Never/Sleep Pictures, Aidan O’Bryan for WBMC and Gregory Jankilevitsch for Mid-March Media. Glover previously collaborated with Heretic on Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s “Hot Milk” (Berlinale Competition) and Romain Gavras’ “Sacrifice” (TIFF Special Presentations), with Mid-March also involved in “Sacrifice.”

The film will receive major production investment from Screen Australia, in association with Screenwest and Lotterywest. It is being executive produced by Klaudia Smieja, Rebecca Lenkiewicz, Samantha Lang, Lee Hazeldene, Ioanna Stais and Giorgos Karnavas.
