Macaulay Culkin steps back into Kevin McCallister role for new Christmas advertising campaign

Macaulay Culkin has stepped back into his Kevin McCallister role for a new Christmas advertising campaign with a message about family and ageing.

Macaulay Culkin has stepped back into his Kevin McCallister role for a new Christmas advertising campaign with a message about family and ageing

The 45-year-old actor, best known for playing quick-witted lad Kevin who outsmarts burglars in 1990 comedy Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992), is starring in a new “Home But Not Alone” campaign for Home Instead, a company providing in-home care for older adults.

This time, the character of Kevin’s focus is on keeping his mother, Kate McCallister, played again by 71-year-old Catherine O’Hara, safe at home.

In a series of newly-released clips released as part of the campaign, Macaulay reprises his character from the original films. The main ad opens with a hand-drawn map titled “Mom’s Safety Plan”, showing danger zones around the house and notes reminding Kevin to secure a carpet to prevent tripping, raise the toilet seat and install a stairlift.

Kevin says in the video while wrapping outdoor decorations in bubble wrap: “I’m just worried about mom being by herself, y’know? What if she falls down or gets snowed in? They never did catch that South Bay Shovel Slayer.”

His conversation is interrupted by the sound of a shovel scraping the pavement, leading to an encounter with Old Man Marley’s granddaughter – a nod to the original film’s neighbour.

She asks him what he’s doing and suggests a different approach, asking: “Have you tried talking to her about getting a little help?”

She adds: “The scariest part is starting that conversation. Then at least you’ll know and can stop worrying about it. It’s not easy, but how you feel about family is a complicated thing.”

The campaign was directed by Jody Hill, who said about the ad campaign in a release shared with People: “We wanted to tell this story authentically, recognising that we all experience this moment with a loved one at some point.

“It goes beyond holiday nostalgia to connect with Kevin McCallister years later – as he faces the same concerns many of us have as our parents age. It’s real, it’s funny, and it’s deeply human.”

The “Home But Not Alone” ads are set to air during broadcasts of Home Alone and other festive programming, as well as throughout college football coverage until 11 January.

Macaulay filmed several additional clips for the project, including one re-creating a famous moment from the original movie in which Kevin’s grocery bags split open on the street.

Despite more than three decades since first playing the role, the actor said the connection between himself and Kevin remains strong – and is one now shared with his own family.

In December 2024, the father of two told E! News his four-year-old son, Dakota had begun confusing his own memories with scenes from the films.

Macaulay said: “He thinks he’s Kevin.

“I’m like, ‘Do you remember going down the stairs on the sled?’ He’s like, ‘Mmhmm, yep. Sure do.’ I’m like, ‘Do you remember when he had yellow hair?’ And he’s like, ‘Uh-huh, yep’.”

Macaulay added he responded by calling Dakota “a lying liar who lies”.

The Jonas Brothers — Kevin, Joe, and Nick — are set to bring holiday cheer to fans with their upcoming film A Very Jonas Christmas Movie. Disney+ released the official trailer on Monday, offering a glimpse into the heartwarming and humorous story that explores family, fame, and festive spirit. Written by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, and directed by Jessica Yu, the film will premiere on November 14 on Disney+ and Hulu.

The trailer opens with the trio wrapping up a concert in London before planning to fly home to New York for Christmas. While Nick and Kevin chat with their wives, Priyanka Chopra and Danielle Jonas, in sweet cameo appearances over video calls, Joe decides to unwind at a local bar. There, he confides in a stranger, admitting, “As the Jonas Brothers, we’re great. But as brothers, whatever magic was there is just… dead.” Their holiday plans take a chaotic turn when they discover their private jet has been destroyed, leaving them stranded and forced to spend Christmas together in unexpected circumstances.

Alongside the brothers’ heartwarming journey of reconnection, the film also explores Joe’s budding romance with Lucy, played by Chloe Bennet. Their charming date scenes show Joe telling his brothers, “We had a connection,” only for Kevin to tease, “How many connections have you had this month?” and Nick to add, “Joe can’t count that high.”

The star-studded cast also includes Billie Lourd, Laverne Cox, KJ Apa, Andrew Barth Feldman, Andrea Martin, and Justin Tranter.

With music, mischief, and brotherly love, A Very Jonas Christmas Movie is shaping up to be this year’s must-watch holiday treat.

The nights are drawing in and Christmas is certainly approaching – in fact, all that’s left now is for shops to deliver their highly-anticipated Christmas retailers.

With the festive period being extremely lucrative for retailers as millions flock to the shops for the perfect gifts for their loved ones, it’s important to make sure their shop is front of mind for Christmas prepping.

Last year, we saw a complete mix of adverts, ranging from the cute (Barbour’s Shaun the Sheep) to the intriguing (Waitrose’s two-part mystery).

One that always gets talked about, regardless of tone, is the John Lewis Christmas advert, which has released uncharacteristically early.

Needless to say, it’s beginning to look at lot like Christmas.

Keep this page bookmarked as we update it with the best Christmas adverts for 2025 from across the UK as they land.

John Lewis was among the first retailers to put out their Christmas advert, and this year’s offering focuses on a father-son relationship.

The son buys a present for his dad and, while he’s nervous to give him it, it turns out to be the perfect gift – as the vinyl record transports him back in time to his glory days clubbing.

It turns out that you don’t need to have the words, so long as you can provide a thoughtful gift!

The advert is soundtracked by two versions of Where Love Lives – by the original Alison Limerick and Labrinth.

“Let it bro, let it bro, let it bro.” This looks so exceptionally cheesy. Disney+ has released an official trailer for a very cringe Christmas movie called A Very Jonas Christmas Movie, a holiday adventure comedy streaming later this month. They haven’t really made any new Jonas Bros movies in a while, but here we go, reminding us they still exist. Three famous brothers race against time and face mounting challenges during a chaotic journey from London to New York, desperate to make it home in time for Christmas with their loved ones. This musical comedy stars (obviously) the Jonas Brothers – Kevin Jonas, Joe Jonas, & Nick Jonas – along with Chloe Bennet, Billie Lourd, Laverne Cox, K.J. Apa, Andrew Barth Feldman, Andrea Martin, Kenny G 🎷, Justin Tranter, Priyanka Chopra-Jonas, Danielle Jonas, & Randall Park. This seems to be a Jonas / Disney+ riff on the classic Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, but they have no on screen chemistry and the jokes are really, really bad. Have a look anyway though you’ve been warned.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Jessica Yu’s A Very Jonas Christmas, direct from YouTube:

A Very Jonas Christmas Movie Poster

In A Very Jonas Christmas Movie, Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas face a series of escalating obstacles as they struggle to make it from London to New York in time to spend Christmas with their families. A Very Jonas Christmas is directed by writer / producer / filmmaker Jessica Yu, director films The Conductor, Men of Reenaction, The Living Museum, Ping Pong Playa, Quiz Show previously, plus tons of work in TV including episodes of “This Is Us”, “Citadel”, “The Recruit”, “Only Murders in the Building” recently. The screenplay is written by Isaac Aptaker & Elizabeth Berger. It’s produced by Kevin Jonas, Joe Jonas, Nick Jonas, Adam Fishbach, Spencer Berman, Scott Morgan, Isaac Aptaker, Elizabeth Berger. With music by Justin Tranter. Made by 20th Television & Disney Television. Disney will debut Jessica Yu’s A Very Jonas Christmas movie streaming on Disney+ starting November 14th, 2025 coming soon this fall. Anyone want to watch this?

Dr Seuss’s The Grinch makes iconic return to TV for sparkly new Christmas advert

by jummy84 November 3, 2025
written by jummy84

With Halloween now in the rear view mirror, the countdown to Christmas is on – and we’re already seeing the first batch of festive adverts appearing on TV.

Asda’s 2025 offering launched over the weekend and sees one of the most iconic Christmas characters of all time make a return to the screen: The Grinch.

In the advert, the Yuletide-hating character is seen accompanied by two children for a Christmas shopping trip, but true to form, he doesn’t appear to be enjoying the experience – singing a humorous song to the tone of festive staple Let it Snow.

“Oh the prices this year are frightful, spenny gifts I’ve seen a sight full,” he sings. “We’re getting quite low on dough, it’s a no, it’s a no, it’s a no.”

However, he soon sees a bright and shiny Asda sign in the distance, which makes him think twice about his previous negativity – especially impressed by the fact that it matches his green colour.

Pushing a shopping trolley through the aisles, he then sings: “Oh the worries show signs of stopping. Wait – am I enjoying shopping? With prices rolled back down low, here we go, here we go, here we go.”

With his trolley full of festive foods and Christmas crackers – and his mood now bordering on euphoric – The Grinch continues: “When we get it all home tonight, oh it’s all going to go down a treat. And to you lot who called me tight, look what we’ve brought you to eat!”

One final verse sees him hosting a party in his house, complete with gift-giving, a roast turkey and all sorts of other festive fun – you can watch the spot in full below:

The advert coincides with the 25th anniversary of the live-action film adaptation of Dr Seuss’s iconic kids book, which famously saw Jim Carrey take on the title character.

It was first shown on the supermarket’s social channels on Saturday 1st November, before a shorter 60 second version aired on TV for the first time on ITV 1 at 8.30pm during an ad break for the 1% Club.

And we can probably expect to see it on screen an awful lot more in the next couple of months!

“We’re so excited to launch this year’s Christmas campaign,” Asda’s Chief Customer Officer Rachel Eyre said in a statement. “We all love Christmas, but we also know it can come with financial pressures. That’s why this year, we’re focused on helping everyone enjoy the festive season we all deserve, filled with joy, celebration, and the reassurance of Asda Price.

“If we can win over the Grinch, the biggest cynic of all, then we know that with our unmatchable mix – amazing products at unbeatable value – we can all have a truly fabulous Christmas together at Asda.”

Mariah Carey Christmas Commercial for Sephora Welcomes Holiday Season

by jummy84 November 2, 2025
written by jummy84

Mariah Carey‘s welcome to the Christmas season is here. The “All I Want for Christmas Is You” hitmaker made an official announcement to kick off the holidays in partnership with Sephora.

Explore

See latest videos, charts and news

“Halloween slayed,” Carey says in the Joseph Kahn-directed ad that dropped as Halloween (Oct. 31) came to a close. “But now … it’s time!”

There’s one problem: Someone’s rummaged through the pop diva’s Sephora bag and pilfered the new beauty goodies she snagged for the 2025 holidays.

In the lighthearted spot, Carey demands someone spill the tea on who stole her makeup so she can ring in the season of her modern Christmas carol, and — spoiler alert — it’s not the Grinch.

It’s Billy Eichner as an overworked elf advocating for better treatment at Christmastime.

“Bad news, Mariah Carey,” the comedian taunts. “The elves are striking this year. Elf revenge for putting us through holiday hell! Santa’s helper quit. I’m pawning this so I can afford elf therapy!”

“That’s my blush, elf boy,” Carey says.

“Your lipstick? I’m taking it. No bells. No cheer. No glam. Bye, sweetie,” Eichner throws back.

The Christmas commercial comes right after Carey dropped a collection of holiday merch, like a snow globe that plays “All I Want for Christmas Is You”; a Christmas sweater, earmuffs, socks, pajamas, robe and slippers; ornaments and stockings; holiday baking supplies and a large inflatable lawn decoration. Mariah might not “want a lot for Christmas,” but she’s given fans plenty to add to their Amazon wish lists.

Watch Carey’s “It’s Time!!!!!” announcement below to find out how she saves Christmas from being canceled. Oh, and go ahead and press play on her classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” the song that Christmas music lovers have listened to enough to make it Carey’s longest Hot 100 reign (with 18 total weeks at No. 1, four of which were just last year).

Unwrap These Secrets About Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas”

by jummy84 November 1, 2025
written by jummy84

Before Carey’s tune registered, it had been a minute since a Christmas song was also a massive hit.

If you count Wham!‘s mournful “Last Christmas” as a holiday staple, we’re talking 1984. If you prefer more pep in your reindeer’s step, Jose Feliciano first wished us “Feliz Navidad” in 1970.

John Lennon and Yoko Ono made their cultural mark with 1971’s “Happy Xmas (The War Is Over),” but that wasn’t a huge hit in the U.S. at first. And it’s more melancholy than merry, Carey herself calling it “pretty sad.”

Really not since Brenda Lee‘s 1958 banger “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” (written by Johnny Marks) had there been such an upbeat addition to the canon that also sold millions of records. And suffice it to say, the Carey magic has not been replicated yet.

Comparing their song to “a cosmic occurrence that happens once every 5 billion years,” Atanasieff told Billboard that “thousands of original Christmas songs have been written in the last 20 years…But for whatever reason ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ just became that song.”

And, he noted, it “was the last major song to enter that Christmas canon, and then the door slammed shut. It just closed.”

As to why she thought the song had endured for three decades, “I think it’s because I really, truly love the holidays,” Carey told Nightline in 2023. “It’s not fake.”

“Join the Whobilation, again!” Universal Pictures has unveiled a new trailer for the 25th Anniversary re-release of the beloved Christmas classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas – the live-action version with Jim Carrey from the year 2000. Many kids grew up watching and loving this one. Older generations grew up with the animated classic 1966 version from Chuck Jones. Both based on the beloved book created by Dr. Seuss – How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The movie, directed by Ron Howard, is a live-action version of the story about a grumpy green creature known as “The Grinch”, who lives above a town called Whoville – played under perfectly wicked make-up by the one-and-only Jim Carrey. (Rick Baker & Gail Rowell-Ryan won the Best Make-Up Oscar for this.) He plans to ruin Christmas for all of the citizens of the town, because he hates Christmas. His plan is foiled when he meets the young Cindy Lou Who (played by actress Taylor Momsen in her first film role) who teaches him the true meaning of Christmas. The cast includes Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Baranski, Bill Irwin, and Molly Shannon. So many movies have been re-released this year and they’re continuing the trend by bringing this out again in theaters in December. Who’s going?

Here’s the 25th Anniversary trailer for Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas, via YouTube:

How the Grinch Stole Christmas 25th Anniversary Trailer

How the Grinch Stole Christmas 25th Anniversary Poster

It’s not easy being green, especially when you’re the cranky, cantankerous Grinch. Brooding alone in the cave he calls home with only his dog Max, the reclusive Grinch wiles away his days ruminating on the horrible hatred he feels for the Whos down in the neighboring burg of Whoville. With their annual holiday festivities approaching, the Grinch hatches a vengeful plot to ruin the fun and purloin all the trappings that make Christmas so special. But he meets a surprising match in brave little Cindy Lou Who (played by Taylor Momsen), a tiny girl whose kindness and generosity of spirit just might help The Grinch begin to appreciate the beauty of the season. How the Grinch Stole Christmas is directed by the beloved American actor / filmmaker Ron Howard, directing his 14 feature film at the time just after EDtv (1999) and before A Beautiful Mind (2001) after this. The screenplay is written by Jeffrey Price & Peter S. Seaman. Based on the Dr. Seuss book of the same name first published in 1957. The movie was originally released in theaters in November 2000. Universal will re-release Ron Howard’s Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas film in theaters again starting December 12th, 2025 this winter. Who’s already a fan of this holiday classic?
