Dr Pothiraj Pitchai, professor and head of the department of physiotherapy at K J Somaiya College of Physiotherapy, shared with HT Lifestyle that regular exercises help in improving mobility, maintaining muscle strength. He said, “Ageing brings changes beyond grey hair; even our muscles, joints, and nerves lose strength, flexibility, and balance, raising fall risk and limiting independence. Regular, gentle physiotherapy exercises support safer, healthier ageing. With guidance from a physiotherapist, simple daily practice of safe exercise, seniors can enjoy the movement as a medicine to prevent falls.”

It is important to note that the exercises need to be fine-tuned to be gentler and suit their energy levels.

Here are 5 easy exercises Dr Pitchai listed:

1. Chair squats

  • How to do: Place the chair against the wall for stability. Stand up from the chair and then sit back down in a controlled manner. It improves lower-body strength.
  • Frequency: Do this for 10-15 repetitions, 2-3 sets per day, at least 3 times per week.
  • Precautions: Avoid using a low-level chair. Avoid it if you have severe lower-body joint pain.

2. Wall push-ups

  • How to do: Stand facing a wall, about an arm’s length away, place your hands on the wall at shoulder height, and perform push-ups. It improves upper-body strength.
  • Frequency: Do this for 10-15 repetitions, 2-3 sets per day, at least 3 times per week.
  • Precautions: Avoid if you have severe shoulder pain or any recent upper limb surgeries. Avoid breath-holding while doing push-ups.

3. Brisk walking

  • Precautions: Avoid uneven or slippery surfaces, wear comfortable footwear.

4. Heel-to-toe walk

  • How to do: Walk in a straight line, placing one foot directly in front of the other. It improves balance and coordination.
  • Frequency: 5–10 steps forward, repeat 2–3 rounds, at least 3 times per week.
  • Precautions: Take the support of a table or wall while walking. Avoid any severe balance problems or dizziness.

5. One-leg stand supported:

  • How to do: Take the support of a table or wall for support, lift one foot slightly off the ground, and hold for 10-15 seconds. Repeat on the other leg. It improves balance and stability.

The decision was made at the recent AEO Board meeting, with Andrew Williams, executive vice president at Informa, named vice chair. Rachel Swann, chief operating officer of the energy division at dmg events and outgoing chair, will take on the role of past chair until September 2026.

The AEO also extends its sincere thanks to Matthew Butler, group managing director of CloserStill Media, who stands down from the Executive Committee as outgoing past chair. His ongoing support and dedication to the AEO over the years has been invaluable and greatly appreciated.

Willis’s priority for the coming year will be to continue building on the AEO’s momentum around member engagement, with a particular focus on delivering a refreshed value proposition that truly reflects what members want and need. She will work closely with the Board and the wider membership to ensure that AEO’s offering stays relevant, impactful, and future-focused.

There’s so much energy and ambition among our members, and my priority is to harness that – working together to make the AEO experience even more rewarding, relevant, and inspiring. Over the coming year, I’ll be connecting directly with members to co-create a value proposition that supports their ambitions and reflects the best of our industry. Together with Andrew, Rachel, Anna, and the Board, I can’t wait to build on our successes and help shape a bright future for event organisers across the UK.”

Swann said:
“It’s been a privilege to serve as AEO chair and work alongside so many dedicated colleagues. I’m proud of the progress we’ve made – especially around member engagement and advocacy. As I pass the baton, I’m confident that Alison’s passion and focus will keep the AEO moving forward, and I look forward to supporting her and Andrew in this new chapter.”

Anna Golden, chief executive of AEO, added:
“Rachel has steered the AEO through a period of real change, and her commitment has set a high bar. As we welcome Alison and Andrew into their new roles, my focus will be on deepening our member relationships and delivering on the promise of a refreshed value proposition – one that’s shaped by what our community truly wants and needs.”

Board rotation and new appointments
As part of its regular Board rotation, the AEO thanks the following outgoing Board members for their service and contribution:

  • Carina Bauer – chief executive officer, IMEX Group
  • Ruth Carter – chief executive officer, CIBSE
  • Sophie Walker – chief operating officer, Immediate Live

Golden expressed her thanks, saying:

Stadium Experience Appoints Henry Crane as New Chair of Public Catering

by jummy84 September 2, 2025
written by jummy84

Stadium Experience is delighted to announce the appointment of Henry Crane as the new Chair of Public Catering for the not-for-profit association. Henry brings extensive experience from his role as Public Catering Manager at MKM Stadium, home of Hull City and Hull FC, and has been a dedicated member of the Stadium Experience community for over a decade.

This summer, Henry and his team celebrated a major achievement—winning their second Best Retail Catering Award in just three years at the independently judged Stadium Events & Hospitality Awards.

About Stadium Experience

Founded in 2002, Stadium Experience aims to promote stadia as premier venues for conferences, meetings, and events, while encouraging best practice and raising industry standards. In 2017, the association expanded to include a dedicated public catering arm, offering stadium venues a platform to share expertise, collaborate, and strive for continued excellence in catering services.

Leadership & Role

In his new role, Henry will join the Stadium Experience Leadership Team, serving as the voice of public catering professionals at stadium venues across the UK. This voluntary team drives the strategic direction of the association and includes industry leaders from venues nationwide:

  • Collette Salmon – Sales Manager, Liverpool FC (Chair)
  • David Timms – Senior Business Development Manager, Chelsea FC (Vice-Chair)
  • Sue France – Treasurer, Stadium Experience
  • Henry Crane – Public Catering Manager, MKM Stadium (Public Catering Chair)
  • Kelly Englefield – Head of Sales for Stadia, Sodexo Live!
  • Jenni Ford – Director of Sales & Marketing, Coventry Building Society Arena
  • Marc Lee – Strategic Sales Manager, Principality Stadium
  • Helen Tully – Conferences, Meetings & Events Assistant Manager, Norwich City FC
  • Angela Sanders – Head of Conference & Events Sales, Edgbaston Stadium
  • Debbie Rigney – Marketing & PR Manager, Stadium Experience

About Henry Crane

Henry began his career with thirteen years in a national recruitment agency, overseeing head office functions, national accounts, contracts, and team leadership. He then transitioned into the charity sector, spending three years in fundraising roles for various national and international organisations.

Fourteen years ago, Henry accepted what was meant to be a one-time opportunity assisting the matchday hospitality team at the then KC Stadium. His enthusiasm and talent quickly stood out, leading to a permanent role as Deputy General Manager. He later found his true passion in his current role as Public Catering Manager.

Henry has since led a team that continuously challenges the status quo in stadium catering—introducing street food concepts on concourses, building a strong social media presence, and consistently delivering high-street quality food to fans. His team’s innovative approach has earned industry acclaim, including two Best Retail Catering wins at The Stadium Events & Hospitality Awards.

He now takes over the Chair of Public Catering role from Nav Daine, who founded and led this arm of Stadium Experience for the past seven years.

Henry commented: “I’d like to thank Nav Daine for his outstanding leadership of the Public Catering group within Stadium Experience. From the very beginning, Nav has been the driving force behind the group’s success, and his dedication, passion, and willingness to support others has made a lasting impact on me and many others.

The Public Catering group has become an invaluable resource—a collective of passionate, like-minded professionals sharing knowledge, ideas, and experience. This spirit of collaboration is what makes the group so special.

I’m truly honoured to take on this role and look forward to building on the strong foundations Nav has laid. My focus will be on further developing the group and exploring new ways to add value for our members.”

Collette Salmon is the overall Chair of Stadium Experience. She commented: “Firstly, I would like to say a huge thank you to Nav for all the years he has given voluntarily to create and develop the Stadium Experience public catering forum. This is now firmly part of the activities offered by our association thanks to his hard work.

We are thrilled to welcome Henry to the Leadership Team as the new driver of our stadium public catering initiatives. His work at MKM Stadium has been truly ground-breaking, and we’re excited to see that innovation and expertise shared more broadly across our network.”
