The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Events (APPG) has confirmed Martin Rhodes, Labour MP for Glasgow North as its new Chair following its Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on Wednesday 3rd December at Portcullis House, Westminster.

As well as representing Glasgow North, Martin Rhodes MP serves on several committees within the House of Commons including the Environmental Audit Committee, Absent Voting (Elections in Scotland and Wales) Bill and Space Industry (Indemnities) Bill. His appointment will strengthen the Group’s work to ensure the continued recognition and support of the UK’s events sector across Parliament and Westminster.

In addition, both James Asser, Labour MP for West Ham and Beckton and Douglas McAllister, Labour MP for West Dunbartonshire were both nominated and elected as Officers of the group. by jummy84 November 15, 2025
written by jummy84

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences said Friday that its board has re-elected Cris Abrego to serve a second term as chair.

The Television Academy is the organization that oversees the Primetime Emmy Awards.

Abrego, the former chairman and CEO of Endemol Shine North America and Banijay Americas, is currently CEO of Hyphenate Media Group. He was initially elected chair of the Television Academy two years ago, and his new term will begin on Jan. 1, 2026, and will run through 2027.

“I’m honored to continue in this role,” Abrego said in a statement. “The past two years have underscored the vital role that the Academy serves in supporting our members, strengthening the television community, and advancing the initiatives that support the long-term health of our industry. I look forward to working alongside our newly elected officers and governors as we build on this momentum and continue guiding the Academy and the Emmy Awards through a dynamic period of transformation for our industry.”

The Academy says that under his leadership the organization had “record membership and retention” and launched Televerse, the Academy’s inaugural multi-day public-facing television festival, among other initiatives.

The Emmy Awards, meanwhile, have turned around a ratings slump, growing audience at a time when few other things outside of live sports are.

The Television Academy also announced its new officers and governors. The officers include Jacob Fenton (Professional Representatives), Vice Chair; Jo DiSante (Television Executives), 2nd Vice Chair; Megan Chao (Documentary Programming), Secretary; and Tony Carey (Producers), Treasurer.

Ex-Inmate Claims Knife Attack Against Diddy Stemmed From Argument Over A Chair &
“Basketball Wives”

We’re getting more insight into what reportedly went down when Sean “Diddy” Combs was nearly attacked behind bars.

Raymond Castillo, a former inmate at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, spoke out to clarify reports that Diddy woke up to a homemade knife at his throat. “He didn’t ‘wake up’ to no knife to his neck,” Castillo said. “And I was the one who intervened.” According to Castillo, the incident wasn’t a planned attack but rather a dispute that started over a chair and the TV. Castillo claimed a #WestCoast gang member serving a 30-year sentence wanted Diddy to give up the seat he was using while watching #BasketballWives.
_____________

“The guy got hostile… maybe looking for clout,” Castillo explained. “Diddy didn’t flinch. He stayed calm, told him, ‘Why you coming at me like that over a chair that don’t belong to none of us?’” Castillo said the inmate then pulled out a handmade knife, but he managed to grab the man’s arm before anyone got hurt. “Diddy just got up and told him, ‘You might need to pray,’” Castillo added. “He tried to calm the guy down and even offered to pray with him. I’ve never seen anyone handle it like that.”
_____________

#Diddy’s friend touched on the alleged attack earlier this month, claiming it was meant as a warning rather than a m8rder attempt.“It was probably a way to say: ‘Next time you ain’t gonna be so lucky’… Everything is intimidation.” He added, “I don’t know whether he fought him off or the guards came. I just know that it happened.”

‘The Chair Company’ Scores Strong Premiere Ratings for HBO

by jummy84 October 17, 2025
written by jummy84

A good number of viewers joined Tim Robinson in trying to figure out what’s happening with The Chair Company. Its Sunday lead-in, Task, is also drawing solid ratings heading into its finale.

HBO says 1.4 million viewers watched The Chair Company’s debut over three days on the HBO cable channel and HBO Max — making it the biggest comedy series premiere for HBO in more than five years (since Avenue 5 in early 2020). The show stars Robinson as a guy who gets drawn into a rabbit hole after a workplace mishap.

Robinson also co-created the well-reviewed series with his I Think You Should Leave and Detroiters collaborator Zach Kanin.

Task, meanwhile, has grown its audience each week since its Sept. 7 premiere. HBO says the penultimate episode drew 4 million cross-platform viewers over three days, the highest tally yet and 32 percent ahead of of the show’s premiere audience of just above 3 million.

The series premiere has grown to 10 million viewers over the past six-plus weeks, and Task as a whole is averaging 6.7 million viewers to date across platforms, HBO says. That’s right in line with series creator Brad Ingelsby’s last HBO show, Mare of Easttown, which at the same time during its run stood at 6.8 million viewers. Mare went on to amass 13 million viewers per episode in HBO’s 90-day measurement window.

As is usually the case with HBO shows, both The Chair Company and Task have brought in the great majority of their viewers from streaming on HBO Max. The Chair Company’s on-air premiere Sunday scored 124,000 viewers, or about 9 percent of its three-day total. Task drew 401,000 viewers Sunday, 10 percent of the episode’s three-day tally.

Election to take place for new Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Events

The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Events (APPG) has announced that an Extraordinary General Meeting will take place in Parliament on 22nd October 2025 to elect a new Chair of the APPG. The election follows the resignation of current Chair, Shaun Davies MP, as a result of him being appointed as Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the Secretary of State for Defence. Parliamentary rules prevent a member of the Government from chairing an APPG.

Gill German MP, Member of Parliament for Clwyd North, has been nominated as Chair Elect of the APPG, with Martin Rhodes MP, Member of Parliament for Glasgow North, stepping into the role of Vice Chair.

As well as representing Clwyd North, Gill German serves as a member of the Welsh Affairs Select Committee, bringing valuable insight and experience to the APPG for Events. If elected, her appointment will strengthen the Group’s work to ensure the continued recognition and support of the UK’s events sector across Parliament and Westminster.

A spokesperson for the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Events said: “We look forward to welcoming our Parliamentary Members to the Extraordinary General Meeting on 22nd October, and to electing a new Chair to ensure that the important work of the APPG continues and that we work in partnership with the events sector to strengthen the industry’s voice in Parliament and across Westminster.

In addition to 34 Parliamentary Members, the APPG also now has 10 Corporate Members, including beam, Raccoon Media Group, Togather, Event Hire Association, SEC, Association of Events Venues,, Experience Oxfordshire Venues, Meetings Industry Association, Manchester Central and Telford International Centre.

PR & Communications agency Davies Tanner, through its The Business of Events Think Tank and Advocacy Network, manages the APPG for Events and acts as a Special Advisor to the group.

Morgan Wallen Denies Throwing Chair From Bar’s Roof in Police Footage

by jummy84 October 1, 2025
written by jummy84

Country music artist Morgan Wallen initially denied throwing a chair off the roof of Nashville bar Chief’s in 2024, according to police video footage obtained by The Associated Press.

The Metro Nashville Police Department released the footage from Wallen’s April 2024 arrest, after the AP filed a public records request. The video was taken through police car cameras and officers’ body cameras.

As shown in the body camera footage, officers are standing next to Wallen outside of the Chief’s bar on Broadway. An officer asks him what happened, and Wallen replies, “I don’t know.” The musician also tells an officer, “We’ve not tried to cause no problems, man. I don’t know what they are, I don’t know why.” The officer tells Wallen that the police were attempting to understand what happened after a chair fell from the bar’s rooftop and landed by the policeman’s patrol car. Wallen answers, “As you should.”

According to the video, officers “spoke to witnesses who identified Wallen as the one who threw the chair, and reviewed security cam footage.” Later footage shows the musician in the backseat of a patrol cruiser, and saying, “I ain’t done nothing wrong.” The footage also shows officers handcuffing him.

Billboard has reached out to reps for Wallen for comment.

Wallen was arrested on April 8, 2024, and briefly jailed after he threw a chair from the sixth-floor rooftop of the bar Chief’s on Lower Broadway in downtown Nashville. The chair reportedly landed a few feet away from where two Metro Nashville police officers were standing. The country star was charged with three counts of reckless endangerment and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. In December 2024, Wallen pled guilty to two misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment in Nashville court and was sentenced to two years’ probation and seven days in a DUI education center.

Nearly two weeks after Wallen’s arrest, he addressed the incident, writing on social media, “I didn’t feel right publicly checking in until I made amends with some folks. I’ve touched base with Nashville law enforcement, my family, and the good people at Chief’s. I’m not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility…. I have the utmost respect for the officers working every day to keep us all safe. Regarding my tour, there will be no change. -MW”

Since that time, Wallen has seen his most recent album, I’m the Problem, spend a dozen nonconsecutive weeks atop the all-genre Billboard 200, and has regaled fans with his stadium-headlining I’m the Problem Tour this year.

“You’re disgusting – these are my work clothes!” HBO Max has revealed the first official trailer for a kooky comedy series called The Chair Company, co-created by the comedy writers Tim Robinson & Zach Kanin (both worked for “SNL” for years). So this sees to be the spiritual sequel to the hilarious Friendship movie from earlier this year? The series stars Tim Robinson as a man who investigates a far-reaching conspiracy after an embarrassing workplace incident. The main cast includes Lake Bell, Sophia Lillis, Will Price, Joseph Tudisco, & Lou Diamond Phillips. With episodes directed by Andrew DeYoung, director of the film Friendship. So what did he discover? They don’t reveal in here – would could it be? This reminds me of a Charlie Kaufman comedy, it has very similar vibes to Being John Malkovich or even a bit of Boots Riley’s Sorry to Bother You. I hope it gets crazier & crazier as it goes on! Ready to watch and find out later this fall.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for HBO Max’s series The Chair Company, direct from YouTube:

The Chair Company Series Trailer

The Chair Company Series Poster

The Chair Company is an 8-episode comedy series created and co-written by actor / comedian Tim Robinson (writer on “Saturday Night Live”, “Detroiters”, “I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson”) and writer Zach Kanin (also from “Saturday Night Live”, “I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson”). Featuring episodes directed by Andrew DeYoung and Aaron Schimberg. Made by Wolfmask, Inc., Zanin Corp, Hyperobject Industries. Executive produced by Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin, Adam McKay and Todd Schulman for HyperObject Industries, plus Andrew DeYoung, and Igor Srubshchik. HBO will debut The Chair Company comedy series streaming on HBO Max starting October 12th, 2025 with new episodes weekly through the end of November. Anyone interested in watching this?

Statement from Shaun Davies MP on stepping down as Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Events

by jummy84 September 11, 2025
written by jummy84

Statement from Shaun Davies MP
Yesterday, Wednesday 10th September 2025, I was appointed to the role of Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Defence, John Healey.

While I am very excited to be taking my first role in Government, and supporting its work, this does unfortunately mean that due to strict rules regarding activities outside of Government, I can no longer hold officer roles in All-Party Parliamentary Groups, Therefore, and with much regret, I will be standing down as Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Events with immediate effect.

I am very sorry to be leaving this role at such an important time, after just publishing our Plan of Work and Calendar of Activity, and at a time of some uncertainty, with recent changes at both the official and ministerial levels. But I know that with the assistance of our Secretariat, Davies Tanner and advice from The Business of Events, and with the continued support of our Parliamentary Members and Vice Chairs, and that of our Corporate Partners, that the APPG will continue to represent this important and world leading sector in Parliament with unrelenting enthusiasm and dedication.

I am proud that we were able to re-establish the APPG so quickly after last year’s General Election, and feel that, together, we have made great progress in helping to unlock the potential of this incredibly important industry, and it’s been a real pleasure to meet with so many people and organisations during the past year.

There is no doubt that the last year has been a learning experience for me personally, and I do hope that I have been a suitable voice and
representative for the events industry in Parliament. I will continue to champion the value of the sector both as an MP, and now within
Government, at every opportunity.

I will be working with Davies Tanner over the coming days as we begin the process of electing a new Chair, and I am sure they will provide further updates to you in due course.

Thank you again for your support during my period of being Chair of the APPG, and I wish every one of you continued success. My interest in and recognition of the industry, together with my own constituency links to it, endure and I will continue take a keen interest and remain a strong advocate and supporter.

Best wishes,
Shaun Davies MP

Geoff Cooper Named New Channel 4 Chair

by jummy84 September 10, 2025
written by jummy84

Geoff Cooper is the new chair of Channel 4, the U.K. network said on Wednesday.

After months of speculation, Channel 4’s interim CEO Jonathan Allan released a statement lauding Cooper’s “extensive board-level experience” and “fresh insights.” Reports emerged last month that Cooper, chairman of the online electrical goods retailer AO, had interviewed for the British state-run broadacaster.

“I would like to congratulate Geoff Cooper on his appointment and, on behalf of everyone at Channel 4, extend a warm welcome to this uniquely special broadcaster at a critical time for public service media in the U.K.,” Allan said.

“Geoff brings extensive board-level experience from a wide range of businesses, as well as proven commercial acumen. As a publicly owned but commercially funded company, his fresh insights and new perspectives will be invaluable as we look to the next phase in Channel 4’s evolution.”

“I also want to thank Dawn Airey for her outstanding leadership and huge support as interim chair since April,” he continued, “This has been Dawn’s second spell as interim chair and we owe her a huge debt of gratitude as she returns to her important role as a brilliant non-executive director.”

Cooper’s experience so far includes board roles at companies including the Dunelm Group and builders’ merchant Travis Perkins. His appointment was reportedly signed off by U.K. culture secretary Lisa Nandy.
