The galaxy is expanding once again. Star Wars: Starfighter, the latest film in the iconic franchise, is officially in the works with Ryan Gosling set to lead and Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy at the helm.

The news was confirmed at Star Wars Celebration 2025, a three-day fan event taking place just outside Tokyo, Japan, and running through April 20. Levy took the stage to announce the Lucasfilm production, marking a major new chapter for the saga.

With production slated to begin in fall 2025 and a theatrical release already scheduled, here’s everything we know so far about Star Wars: Starfighter.

What Is Star Wars: Starfighter About?

Star Wars: Starfighter is a standalone film set approximately five years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. The movie introduces entirely new characters and explores a previously uncharted period in the Star Wars timeline.

“I’m extremely excited about what we’re going to cook up together. This movie, as I said, is a standalone. This is not a prequel. This is not a sequel. It’s a new adventure and it’s set in a period of time, as you can tell, that we haven’t seen explored on screen yet,” said Levy. “And so, it features a collection of all new characters.”

Who Is Ryan Gosling Playing in the Star Wars Movie?

Gosling has been confirmed as the lead in Star Wars: Starfighter. However, details about his character have not been disclosed. Gosling’s role is anticipated to be a new character central to this standalone story.

Speaking at Star Wars Celebration 2025, the Drive actor expressed his excitement about joining the project after Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy shared a childhood photo of his Star Wars-themed bedsheets.

“As you can see from the picture, you know, I guess I was probably dreaming about Star Wars before I even saw the film, and it’s probably framed my idea of what a movie even was,” Gosling said. “But all of that aside, I think the reality is that this script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters. It’s filled with so much heart and adventure. And there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn [Levy]. So it’s something I just really, really wanted to do.”

Amy Adams, Matt Smith Join Cast

Things are heating up for one of the few announced Star Wars projects on the horizon, as Lucasfilm has announced a bunch of new cast members for Star Wars: Starfighter, which starts production today. Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams will all joining Ryan Gosling in Shawn Levy’s new space adventure, set to premiere in 2027.

There are some heavy-hitters in that list: Adams is one of the most acclaimed actresses of her generation with six Oscar nominations and a slew of credits including Arrival, Enchanted, and The Master, while also serving as Zack Snyder’s Lois Lane. Goth, meanwhile, has become a horror queen thanks to Ti West’s X trilogy, as well as roles in Infinity Pool and Susperia — she’ll next be seen in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein later this year.

Pierre’s credits include the acclaimed limited series The Underground Railroad, playing Malcolm X in NatGeo’s Genius: MLK/X, and portraying a young Mufasa in Mufasa: The Lion King. And Smith’s latest movie, Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing, hits theaters on August 29th, but the Doctor Who and Crown star has recently become a staple across multiple major franchises thanks to appearances in Terminator Genisys, Morbius (not his fault), and House of the Dragon.

In a statement, Levy said that “I feel a profound sense of excitement and honor as we begin production on Star Wars: Starfighter. From the day Kathy Kennedy called me up, inviting me to develop an original adventure in this incredible Star Wars galaxy, this experience has been a dream come true, creatively and personally. Star Wars shaped my sense of what story can do, how characters and cinematic moments can live with us forever. To join this storytelling galaxy with such brilliant collaborators onscreen and off, is the thrill of a lifetime.”

Marshals’ Adds Seven to Cast, Including Three ‘Yellowstone’ Alums

The upcoming “Yellowstone” spinoff at CBS is rounding out its main cast.

“Y: Marshals,” which will see Luke Grimes reprise the role of Kayce Dutton, has added seven new cast members. Those include fellow “Yellowstone” alums Gil Birmingham, Mo Brings Plenty, and Brecken Merrill. The three will reprise their roles as Thomas Rainwater, Mo, and Tate Dutton respectively.

The official logline states:

“With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Kayce Dutton (Grimes) joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”

The new series regulars include: Arielle Kebbel (“Rescue: Hi-Surf,” “Ballers) as Belle, Ash Santos (“Pulse,” “Mayor of Kingstown”) as Andrea, and Tatanka Means (“Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Reservation Dogs”) as Miles. All three will play members of the U.S. Marshals. In addition, Brett Cullen (“Apollo 13,” “Joker”) will appear in the recurring role of Harry Gifford, the head of the U.S. Marshals in Montana. It was previously announced that Logan Marshall-Green would play Pete Calvin, a friend from Kayce’s time in the military.

Kebbel is repped by Independent Artists Group, Untitled Entertainment and Hansen Jacobson. Santos is repped by M88, Gersh, Platform Public Relations and Myman Greenspan. Cullen is repped by Innovative Artists and Lovett Management. Means is repped by Amsel, Eisenstadt, Frazier & Hinojosa Inc. and Authentic Talent and Literary Management. Birmingham is repped by Amsel, Eisenstadt, Frazier & Hinojosa Inc. Merrill is repped by Industry Entertainment.

“Y: Marshals” was ordered to series at CBS in May for the 2025-2026 broadcast season. The series is slated to debut at midseason. The initial episode is being written by Spencer Hudnut and directed by Greg Yaitanes. Hudnut also serves as executive producer and showrunner. “Yellowstone” mastermind Taylor Sheridan executive produces along with David C. Glasser for 101 Studios as well as John Linson, Art Linson, Grimes, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Greg Yaitanes, Michael Friedman, and Keith Cox. Paramount Television Studios will produce. The series will be distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.

“Y: Marshals” is not the only “Yellowstone” spinoff in the works. There is also a new series centered on Beth and Rip, which recently added Annette Bening to its cast. Sheridan is also prepping the latest prequel series, “1944,” for Paramount+.

In the opening episode, viewers meet Simone (Nicole da Silva), who has channelled long-buried memories into a debut novel that unexpectedly turns her into a literary sensation. But her success quickly sours as it becomes clear that the story doesn’t belong to her alone. At its core is a tragedy that also shaped the lives of her childhood friends Tess (Jodie Whittaker) and Hat (Yael Stone).

Deep Cut Friday: ‘Cast No Shadow’ by Oasis

Each week, SPIN digs into the catalogs of great artists and highlights songs you might not know for our Deep Cut Friday series. 

In the constantly shifting landscape of popular music, headliners and opening acts can trade places in the space of just a couple of years. In fact, that’s exactly what happened to a pair of Greater Manchester bands 30 years ago. The Verve released its debut album A Storm in Heaven in 1993 and played several shows supported by a new band called Oasis that hadn’t yet released its first single. By April 1995, Oasis had become wildly popular, and the Verve opened a couple of their shows in Essex and France. 

Over the following months, Oasis and the Verve each released their sophomore albums, and their trajectories continued in opposite directions. The Verve briefly broke up weeks after the release of A Northern Soul, while (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? went supernova, becoming the biggest British rock album of the decade. But even as Oasis feuded with Blur and many other Britpop contemporaries, they remained good friends with the Verve. In fact, Noel Gallagher wrote one of Morning Glory’s most moving songs, “Cast No Shadow,” about some difficult times that Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft was going through. Ashcroft returned the favor, dedicating A Northern Soul’s title track to the Oasis guitarist.

The two bands’ roles reversed again, at least briefly, when the Verve reconvened and recorded the 1997 smash “Bitter Sweet Symphony,” and the band’s third album Urban Hymns actually outsold Oasis’s Be Here Now. Then Ashcroft embarked on a solo career, and Oasis carried on successfully, but rarely played “Cast No Shadow” on their post-’90s tours. Fast forward a couple decades, and a reunited Oasis have one of the biggest tours of 2025, with Ashcroft opening all the U.K. shows. And “Cast No Shadow” has made a triumphant return to Oasis’s setlists, with the band frequently dedicating the song to Ashcroft. 

Three more essential Oasis deep album cuts:

“Up In the Sky”

Noel Gallagher is Oasis’s undisputed creative leader, writing every song on the band’s first three albums. Co-founding guitarist Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs did take credit for one of the catchiest riffs on Definitely Maybe, however, in a 2014 Irish Post interview: “I came up with the riff for ‘Up in the Sky’ and he built the song around that one but generally Noel would arrive with the finished song.” Arthurs rejoined Oasis this year for the first time since 1999.

“I Hope, I Think, I Know”

Be Here Now remains one of the most disappointing follow-up albums in rock history, partly because nearly every song is about twice as long as it needed to be. One exception is the charging “I Hope, I Think, I Know,” which gets to the point in a relatively restrained 4 1/2 minutes.

“Fuckin’ in the Bushes”

Oasis’s 2000 album Standing on the Shoulder of Giants opened with a funky, psychedelic instrumental, which featured a loop of a ’60s concert promoter declaring “The kids are running around naked, fucking in the bushes” sampled from the 1995 documentary Message to Love: The Isle of Wight Festival. Walmart stores declined to sell Oasis’s fourth album due to the profane song title. Instead of performing “Bushes” live, Oasis would use the track as their pretaped intro music at concerts, a practice that’s been revived for the Live ‘25 Tour.

Cast, Premiere Date, More Details on Ryan Murphy FX Series

Ryan Murphy is about to take us back to 1980s Los Angeles. The TV producer mogul is adapting Bret Easton Ellis’ psychological horror novel The Shards, and he’s assembled quite the cast.

The Shards, which was released in 2021, is loosely inspired by the American Psycho author’s own life growing up. A TV adaptation initially started out at HBO, but those plans fell through. Now, Murphy has taken The Shards over to FX.

On July 16, key cast members were revealed. Who is playing the fictional version of Bret Easton Ellis? What about the mysterious Robert Mallory? TV Insider is breaking down all the updates about The Shards TV series.

When is The Shards coming out?

The Shards doesn’t have a premiere date yet. We first heard about the show’s move to FX back in May. Given the casting news, production will likely get underway this year. The earliest The Shards would premiere is 2026.

Who has been cast in The Shards?

Igby Rigney has been cast as a young Bret Easton Ellis in The Shards, per Variety. Rigney is best known for his roles in the Mike Flanagan TV universe, including Midnight Mass, The Fall of the House of Usher, and The Midnight Club.

Homer James Jigme Gere will play Robert Mallory, the new kid at the posh Buckley prep school that Bret attends. The 25-year-old is the son of Richard Gere. The Shards will mark his first major role.

In a Ryan Murphy-style twist, the young Gere will star alongside Kaia Gerber in The Shards. Gerber is attached to star in the series, but the character she’s playing remains unclear. Gerber’s mom, Cindy Crawford, was married to Richard Gere from 1991 to 1995.

Hayes Warner has also been cast in the adaptation as a series regular. The singer will play popular girl Debbie Shaffer, another student at the exclusive prep school. Deadline first reported the news on August 22.

Graham Campbell will play Bret’s best friend, Thom. The series will be his first TV role.

What is The Shards about?

The Shards takes place primarily in 1981, Bret’s senior year of high school. An older Bret recalls what happened that fateful year when he met Robert Mallory and the “Trawler” terrorized Los Angeles. Bret becomes obsessed with the serial killer who is seemingly targeting young women in the Los Angeles area. As Robert Mallory is welcomed into Bret’s friend group, Bret becomes convinced this enigmatic young man is hiding secrets.

The Shards was initially serialized by Ellis as an audiobook through his podcast before he traditionally published in 2021.

‘All Creatures Great and Small’ Photos Reveal Time Jump and New Baby in Season 6 Cast — Who’s Returning?

All Creatures Great and Small fans, don’t fear. Despite Callum Woodhouse saying he was “done” in a Season 6 teaser shared by PBS earlier this week, the series has assured that he’s not leaving the show. The All Creatures Great and Small Season 6 cast list has just been revealed, and it confirms that he will be back as Tristan Farnon alongside his fellow longtime costars. It also reveals a time jump in Season 6 and a new baby for the Herriot family!

That August 19 behind-the-scenes video also made fans wonder why Anna Madeley (Mrs. Hall) wasn’t present, but she’ll be back in the new season. The August 21 announcement also came with the first photos from Season 6, set to premiere in 2026 in the U.S., and the announcement of five new cast members. It’s a busy day for fans of this heartwarming series.

All Creatures Great and Small Season 6 takes us back to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales for more heartwarming human and animal tales but, this time, we find our beloved Skeldale gang in a somewhat different situation as we join them in 1945, just as the war in Europe is coming to a close. We arrive back in Darrowby to veterinary advancements, expanded families, and new faces as they all look ahead to a brighter and more peaceful future. This season will see Herriot’s wonderful characters navigating the opportunities that a new world brings, a host of animals great and small, and of course, each other.

This marks a four-year time jump between Season 5 and 6. Season 5 was set in the spring of 1941.

Who is in the All Creatures Great and Small Season 6 cast?

Nicholas Ralph reprises his role as devoted vet James Herriot, alongside Samuel West as the brilliant yet unpredictable business partner Siegfried Farnon. Anna Madeley returns as the steadfast Mrs. Hall, with Rachel Shenton once again as capable Helen Herriot, and Callum Woodhouse as the mischievous Tristan Farnon, still serving with the Royal Army Veterinary Corps. Patricia Hodge delights as the elegant Mrs. Pumphrey, joined by her cherished Pekingese, Tricki. Also featuring are Tony Pitts as Helen’s no-nonsense father, Richard Alderson, and Imogen Clawson as her spirited younger sister, Jenny.

Newcomers to the cast this season are Lucy-Jo Hudson, Gaia Wise, Jonathan Hyde, Philip Martin Brown, and Chris Gascoyne. Returning guest cast are Mollie Winnard, Conor Deane, Cat Simmons, and Lamin Touray.

When does All Creatures Great and Small Season 6 come out?

Season 6 will premiere in the U.K. (on channel 5) this fall and in the U.S. in early 2026, PBS confirms. The new season will consist of six episodes plus a Christmas Special.

The series based on James Herriot’s beloved books is produced by BAFTA and Golden Globe-winning company Playground (Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light, The Hardacres, The Undeclared War) and Masterpiece on PBS, in association with global partner All3Media International.

The story continues with Jenna and Lion’s wedding, which becomes the perfect backdrop for the long-awaited reunion of Noah and Nick, sometime after their breakup. The stakes are higher this time. Nick still struggles with his inability to forgive Noah, and this creates a seemingly insurmountable barrier between them. He is now the heir to his grandfather’s business empire, and she is just starting her career. Despite their effort to move on, the emotions between them are still alive. They try to resist reigniting a flame that still smoulders within them. But now that their paths have crossed again, will love prove stronger than resentment?

In Culpa Nuestra, Nicole Wallace and Gabriel Guevara bring the beloved characters of Noah and Nick to life one last time. They close this unforgettable chapter of the Culpable saga alongside the complete returning cast, including Marta Hazas, Iván Sánchez, Victor Varona, Eva Ruiz, Goya Toledo, Gabriela Andrada, Álex Béjar, Javier Morgade and Felipe Londoño. The film also welcomes Fran Morcillo of Money Heist fame as Simon.

Culpa Nuestra has been directed by Domingo González, who also repeats as writer alongside Sofía Cuenca, produced by Pokeepsie Films with Álex de la Iglesia and Carolina Bang as producers

Culpa Nuestra will be released exclusively on October 16 on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

The Morning Show Season 4 Release Date

Season 4 of The Morning Show is set to premiere on Apple TV+ on September 17, 2025. The season will consist of 10 episodes, with new episodes released weekly every Friday through November 19, 2025.

The September 2025 premiere date aligns with earlier comments from showrunner Charlotte Stoudt, who hinted during PaleyFest in April 2024 that the new season would arrive “after the election,” referring to the 2024 U.S. presidential race. “The show will be out after the election,” she told Entertainment Tonight at the time, adding that the team wanted to explore the story “in an interesting way without being predictive.” As Comic Book Resources noted, the timeline also remains consistent with those of previous seasons.

Executive producer Mimi Leder also teased that season 4 would shift in tone. “What I would say is, last season was about what is the truth, and this could be about, who do you trust?” she said.

What Is the Plot for Season 4 of The Morning Show?

According to Apple TV’s official synopsis, season 4 “opens in spring 2024, almost two years after the events of season three. What Happened in Season 3 of The Morning Show?

Season 3 ended with Alex turning on Jon Hamm‘s character, investor Paul Marks, and pitching the merger of UBA and their rival, NBN, to save the network. Paul was about to destroy the news division. As for Bradley, she turned herself in to the FBI, confessing to aiding her brother get away with his involvement in the January 6 insurrection. Bradley deleted the footage she captured of her brother in the Capitol building, assaulting a police officer.

Alex and Bradley’s careers and personal lives pulled them apart, but they ended season 3 on a positive note as Alex walked Bradley into the FBI building.
