‘SNL’ Stars Bowen Yang, Marcello Hernández, More React to Cast Exodus

Amid the cast shake-up at Saturday Night Live, current and former stars are sharing their reactions to the news ahead of season 51.

Last week, it was revealed that Heidi Gardner, Michael Longfellow, Devon Walker and Emil Wakim have exited the long-running NBC sketch comedy series — the most departures since 2022, when eight people left SNL ahead of season 48.

Some of those leaving took to their respective social media accounts to announce their departures, leading other current and former SNL stars to react in the comments.

Longfellow shared on Instagram that he’s leaving after three seasons. Bowen Yang responded to his post, writing, “Jesus WAS Chinese. I love you Michael.” The Wicked actor was referencing Longfellow’s claim during one of his previous Weekend Update segments.

Marcello Hernández also shared, “Love bro, thank you for letting me cfb whenever, my roommate,” to which Longfellow replied, “the ps5, shes yours now brother.”

Wakim added, “Yellow room forever u can play as many bones songs as u want.”

Molly Shannon, who was a castmember on SNL from 1995 to 2001 and returned to host in 2007 and 2023, also commented on Longfellow’s post, “You RULE michael. So honored and happy to have gotten to meet you and work with you. Congratulations on an excellent run on SNL! love talking to you when I was there. Wishing you so much continued success.”

As for Walker, who is also departing the NBC comedy show after three seasons, Chloe Fineman wrote under his post on Instagram, “I’ll miss being your pregnant wife all the time!!!!!” Gardner also commented, “I love you.”

Shannon added, “So nice meeting you Devon! Wishing you so much continued success.”

Wakim, who is exiting SNL after one season, previously shared on social media that it wasn’t his choice to exit the show. Former castmember Punkie Johnson, who left the show last year, responded, “Omg at first glance I thought this was a birthday post…this is really truly surprising…I’m glad you are focusing on the good and are proud of yourself and the work you put in not many people can say they were on SNL and for the 50th in legendary… You a legend baby… Outside ain’t bad. Welcome back.”

Fineman also commented, “Your such a stat and ill miss sitting next to the best dressed man at table read!!!”

Gardner, who was a castmember on SNL for eight seasons, has yet to comment on her departure on social media.

Executive producer Lorne Michaels and castmember Kenan Thompson previously teased that cast changes were likely. It’s unclear if more people are expected to leave the show ahead of the season 51 premiere on Oct. 4.

As in season 1, the show stars Nikkie Rodrigues, Noah LaLonde and Ashby Gentry. But who else stars in the new episodes and who do they all play?

Netflix Release Date, Cast & More – Hollywood Life

He’s alive! Leave it to Guillermo del Toro to bring back Frankenstein in a new, eerily creative way. Coming to Netflix in late 2025, the new Frankenstein movie has a star-studded cast, and it’s based directly on author Mary Shelley‘s 1818 novel of the same name.

“The most important figure from English legacy is, incredibly, for me, a teenager by the name of Mary Shelley, and she has remained a figure as important in my life as if she were family,” Guillermo said, according to Netflix’s Tudum. “And so many times when I want to give up, when I think about giving up, when people tell me that dreaming of the movies and the stories I dream are impossible, I think of her.”

Frankenstein Movie Release Date

Guillermo’s Frankenstein will debut on Netflix on November 7, 2025. The film had its world premiere on August 30, 2025, at the Venice International Film Festival.

Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein Trailer

During Netflix’s Tudum 2025: The Live Event, the trailer for Frankenstein dropped. Though it’s a brief compilation of scenes, fans can hold onto it for now as they wait for an official release date.

Though the monster-creating story tends to take on a more horrific side in Hollywood renditions, Guillermo said his version is not a thriller.

“Somebody asked me the other day, ‘Does it have really scary scenes?’ the filmmaker said during a conversation at the Cannes Film Festival with composer Alexandre Desplat. “For the first time, I considered that. It’s an emotional story for me. It’s as personal as anything. I’m asking a question about being a father, being a son … I’m not doing a horror movie — ever. I’m not trying to do that.”

Frankenstein Netflix Cast

The Frankenstein 2025 cast features some of the biggest names in show business. Oscar Isaac is playing the main role of Victor Frankenstein, Jacob Elordi is Frankenstein’s monster and Mia Goth is Elizabeth Lavenza, Victor’s fiancée.

Also in the Frankenstein 2025 cast is Christian Convery as young Victor, Christoph Waltz as Dr. Pretorious, Felix Kammerer as Williams, Lars Mikkelsen as Captain Anderson, David Bradley as Blind Man and Ralph Ineson as Professor Kempre

Why Are Cast Members Leaving 'SNL'? The Reasons for Departures

Why Are Cast Members Leaving ‘SNL’ Before Season 51? Their Departures – Hollywood Life

by jummy84 August 30, 2025
written by jummy84

Two months before its season 51 premiere, Saturday Night Live lost multiple cast members, including one long-running star. In just one week, the cast departures shocked fans as many wondered why these comedians were leaving SNL.

Below, Hollywood Life is breaking down everything we know so far about the reasons behind the SNL cast departures and who’s leaving.

Is SNL Ending?

No, SNL is not ending before its 51st season. The new season premieres on October 4, 2025.

Which Cast Members Are Leaving SNL?

The following comedians are leaving SNL before season 51:

Heidi is the only one who has yet to publicly comment on her SNL exit. She was with the sketch comedy series for eight seasons.

Why Is the Cast Leaving SNL? Departure Reasons

Devon was the first to confirm his departure from SNL in an Instagram carousel post, which featured a screenshot from a Text Edit note. The message read, in part, “Me and the show did three years together, and sometimes, it was really cool. Sometimes, it was toxic as hell. But we did what we made the most of what it was, even amidst all of the dysfunction. We made a f**ked up lil family.”

Devon labeled his note,  “wait..did he quit or did he get fired?” leaving the reason behind his exit up in the air. However, Emil revealed in his own statement that he was told he would not return for season 51, implying that he and the others may have been fired.

“I won’t be returning to SNL next year,” Emil confirmed in his Instagram statement. “It was a gut punch of a call to get, but I’m so grateful for my time there.”

Michael also expressed that his release from the show was a bummer for him. He wrote in an Instagram carousel, “Will not be returning for a 4th season at SNL. Wish I was, but so it goes. It was the best three years of my life so far. I feel nothing but gratitude for the experience and everyone there. Lorne, you gave me the greatest job in the world and changed my life. You even put my mom on TV. Thank you doesnt begin to cover it, but thank you. I’ll miss it all, but I’ll miss the friends I made and seeing them everyday the most.”

Despite the heartbreaking news, it’s actually normal for SNL to cycle through different comedians. After almost each season, the show hires new faces once veterans leave.

Who Is in the SNL Season 51 Cast?

Only James Austin Johnson was confirmed to be returning for season 51 by Lorne Michaels, himself. The rest of the cast presumably still features the following names who were in season 50:

by jummy84 August 30, 2025
written by jummy84

Filmfare sat with the cast of Vash Level 2 for a candid conversation on the movie. The actors, Janki Bodiwala, Hitu Kanodia, Hiten Kumar and Monal Gajjar spoke to us about the sequel being much intense than the first movie. They also delved into the camaraderie they share on set, spooky moments, researching on black magic and more. When asked about the sequel, Hiten Kumar shared that it has its own extreme scenes that may make the audience uncomfortable. Janki agreed, stating that she is creeped out by her promotional poster of the movie. She also shared about taking her character to the next level in this movie. Hitu Kanodia quipped that his role as the father has earned him immense praises and his scenes in the new movie would be appreciated more. Monal, who is a new face in the cast, opened up about her thoughts on the new movie. She spoke about her character and applauded the many young actors who played school students in the film. She shared that the scenes with the students might be the highlights of the film. The others agreed, stating that the ensemble cast has done a superb job in elevating the intensity.

Hiten Kumar lauded Hitu and Janki for their portrayal of the troubled and daughter. When asked if Janki feels overburdened and emotional after intense scenes, she stated that her cast members make sure that she is alright. Hiten, on the other hand, shared that he understands how to switch off from the character after playing it for hours. However, it wasn’t an easy feat to achieve before. He shared being bothered by severely traumatic scenes but had to learn a way to deal with his emotions.

The halls of Nevermore Academy are opening once again—Wednesday is back for season 2. After a wildly successful debut that turned the iconic Addams Family daughter into a streaming sensation, fans got word in 2023 that a follow-up season was on the way. Now that part 1 of season 2 has aired, fans can’t wait for part 2.

With returning characters, fresh mysteries, and even darker twists ahead, Hollywood Life has rounded up everything we know so far about the next round of chaos for Wednesday Addams.

‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Details

Netflix officially announced the renewal of Wednesday on January 6, 2023. In the Season 2 announcement video, Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Addams delivers a perfectly on-brand message: “Over the past few weeks, I’ve been hunted, haunted, and mimicked millions of times across the internet. It’s been pure torture. Thank you.”

The streaming service said “more misery is coming” and the “global phenomenon will return for season 2.”

“It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world.  Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two. We can’t wait to dive head first into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first,” creators/showrunners/executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar told Tudum.

Wednesday became an instant hit for Netflix when it debuted on November 23, 2022. In just its first week, Wednesday had 341.23M hours viewed and became the record-holder for the most hours viewed in a week for any English-language TV series on Netflix. Wednesday beat Stranger Things 4, which previously held the title with 335M hours viewed in the first week. Wednesday broke another Netflix record in its second week with 411.29M hours viewed.

The love for Wednesday Addams began when the fictional family was created by cartoonist Charles Addams. The first Addams Family television series premiered in 1964. Feature films starring Christina Ricci as Wednesday Addams debuted in the 1990s.

Wednesday Season 2 Part 1 & 2 Release Dates

Season 2 of Wednesday will be released in two parts on Netflix. Part 1 premiered on August 6, 2025. Part 2, featuring the remaining four episodes, arrives on September 3, 2025.

Filming for the new season began in early 2024, following delays due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes as unions negotiated new deals with studios. Production for Season 2 has shifted to Ireland, a change from Season 1, which was filmed in Romania from September 2021 to March 2022.

‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Cast & Crew

Jenna is, of course, returning as Wednesday Addams—and this time, she’s not just the star. As revealed in her Elle cover story, Jenna will also serve as an executive producer for Season 2.

With Wednesday returning to Nevermore Academy for another semester, several familiar faces are back as well. Expect to see:

  • Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair

  • Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay

  • Georgie Farmer as Ajax Petropolus

  • Moosa Mostafa as Eugene Otinger

All these actors will be returning except for Percy Hynes White.

Hunter Doohan will reprise his role as Tyler Galpin, despite his character being locked away at the end of Season 1 after being revealed as the Hyde. He teased that Tyler’s arc is far from over, telling Hollywood Life, “I just want to explore what’s next for Tyler, and if he’s going to come back after Wednesday… I guess the idea left at the end is that he’s really pissed off enough to transform in that armed vehicle and I assume escape.”

Tyler was previously under the control of Marilyn Thornhill (played by  Christina Ricci), whose fate was left unresolved in the Season 1 finale. Hunter added that he’d love to see “what Tyler and the Hyde are like without having a master in Thornhill.”

Wednesday. (L to R) Joonas Suotamo as Lurch, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Jenna Ortega as Wednesday, Isaac Ordonez aș Pugsley Addams, Thing, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams in episode 201 of Wednesday. Cr. Helen Sloan/Netflix © 2025

The Addams family is also expected to appear throughout the season. Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia), Luis Guzmán (Gomez), Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley), George Burcea (Lurch), Victor Dorobantu (Thing), and Fred Armisen (Uncle Fester) are all likely to pop in—and fans are hoping for even more screentime.

“We felt like we just touched the surface with those characters and the actors are so amazing in those roles,” Miles told TVLine. “Catherine is, I think, an iconic Morticia. The relationship between Wednesday and Morticia is also essential to the show, and the idea that Wednesday is trying to forge her own path outside the family is important.”

Season 2 is also bringing in fresh blood. Steve Buscemi joins the cast as Nevermore Academy’s new principal. Lady Gaga has been confirmed for a mysterious role, and additional guest stars include:

  • Thandiwe Newton

  • Haley Joel Osment

  • Heather Matarazzo

  • Joanna Lumley

  • Frances O’Connor

  • Joonas Suotamo

Tim Burton, who directed the first four episodes of Season 1, is back to direct another four in Season 2.

‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Plot

At Tudum 2025, Netflix unveiled the first six minutes of Season 2’s premiere episode, titled “Here We Woe Again.” The opening scene features Wednesday confronting a serial killer known as the Kansas City Scalper, played by Haley Joel Osment, showcasing her growing psychic abilities and setting a darker tone for the new season.

A trailer for Wednesday Season 2 Part 1 was released in July 2025, and it shows Wednesday grappling with new supernatural threats at Nevermore Academy. After becoming a reluctant hero in Season 1, Wednesday is haunted by disturbing visions, including one of her best friend Enid’s death. She vows to stop it, saying, “Enid dies and it’s all my fault. I’ll die trying.”

While on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in March 2023, Jenna gave a little hint as to what to expect in season 2. “We just started getting a writers’ room together and talking about it,” she said.  Everybody’s being really cool. I think we want to up the kind of the horror aspect a little bit and get Wednesday out of the romantic situation and just let her be her own individual and fight her own crime.

Hunter Doohan

Jenna gave a taste of what’s to come during her Variety Actors on Actors interview with Elle Fanning in 2023. She said at the time they wanted to “lean into the horror aspect of the show” more in season 2.

“I just got a couple of the outlines for the first couple episodes. So it’s still very much coming together,” she said. “We’ve had a lot of conversations and we’ve decided things that we want to enhance and dive a little bit deeper in. I think we want to lean into the horror aspect of the show more because it is so light-hearted. I think that we’re kind of ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is great. And then also, we have such incredible female leads in the show.” She added, “I think we’re gonna get a lot more bolder. A lot more dark.”

At the end of the first season, Nevermore Academy was shut down for the remainder of the semester. Co-showrunner Alfred told THR that the school being closed “gave us the most possibilities for season 2, and I think that’s something that we’re excited to explore.”

He noted that the show is ultimately about the “female friendship” between Wednesday and Enid. However, many fans believe Wednesday and Enid have romantic feelings for each other. Here’s what Miles had to say:

“As Al said, this idea of sisterhood is key to the show. We’re not gonna discount anything, and, obviously, sometimes characters reveal themselves, which is the fun thing we love about television, that it’s an organic journey. We have a roadmap, and we’d like to have routes along that map that take you in unexpected directions. So, we’re open to everything. We wanna explore that friendship in every way, but we’re not gonna be, this is where you sometimes get misdirected by fans and things like that, so it’s just being really open to see how those characters develop and that friendship. As Al said, that friendship is key to our sort of vision of the show.”

Wednesday did open her heart a little in season 1 and developed feelings for Tyler. When he turned out to be the Hyde, that was obviously a shock to the system. In the final moments of the finale, Xavier gave Wednesday her first phone and hinted that she should text him sometime. Xavier and Wednesday definitely had a will-they-or-won’t-they element in season 1, so season 2 could go down the romantic route for them.

During Netflix’s TUDUM event on June 17, 2023, the Wednesday cast filmed a video and discussed popular fan theories. “Wednesday season 2 is being worked on right now, and the storyline is so top secret, even we don’t know what’s going to happen,” Emma Myers said in the video.

The Saturday Night Live cast is going through a major shakeup right before season 51 airs on October 4, 2025. All in one week, multiple stars were reported to be leaving the show, and viewers were particular shocked about one cast member’s departure. So, what’s going on at the NBC sketch comedy series, and who’s leaving SNL?

Below, Hollywood Life has rounded up the SNL cast departures, the fate of the show and more.

Is Saturday Night Live Canceled?

No, SNL has not been canceled and is still moving forward with its 51st season this fall.

Who Is Leaving SNL? All the Cast Departures

The following names are the cast members who are leaving SNL:

Devon’s departure was the first to make headlines, and he addressed it in a social media note. In his Instagram statement, the comedian alleged the environment in Studio 8H was “toxic” sometimes.

“Me and the show did three years together, and sometimes, it was really cool,” Devon began in his statement, which was a screenshot of a Text Edit note from a computer. “Sometimes, it was toxic as hell. But we did what we made the most of what it was, even amidst all of the dysfunction. We made a f**ked up lil family.”

Why Are These SNL Cast Members Leaving the Show?

No one from NBC nor the former SNL cast members have confirmed why they left the series. However, it’s normal for actors to come and go because the show introduces new faces every season. It’s also possible that some cast members were fired, though.

Devon’s Text Edit note was labeled, “wait..did he quit or did he get fired?” but it’s still unclear if he chose to leave SNL or if he was let go.

Emil also addressed his departure from SNL in a statement. The comedian revealed that he was called about his departure, so he may have been released from the show.

“I won’t be returning to SNL next year,” the comedian announced via Instagram. “It was a gut punch of a call to get, but I’m so grateful for my time there.”

Heidi has not addressed her shocking departure, but multiple outlets reported that she was leaving. The actress was with SNL for eight seasons and became the longest tenured female cast member.

Dead Take boss had 7 months to assemble the hottest cast in gaming

Salim’s first game, Tales of Kenzera: Zau, picked up the Game Beyond Entertainment Award at the BAFTAs. While the 2D Metroidvania centres on the theme of grief, and is steeped in African mythology, his second game features a huge mechanical and tonal shift.

Called Dead Take, it’s a first-person horror set in Hollywood, starring Neil Newbon and Ben Starr (as well as many more familiar faces).

Was it always the plan to follow Zau with something so totally different?

As Salim recalls it, “I think the reason as to why we kind of went for something so different was, I mean… I’ve always seen games as an art form, and I think you’ve got to react to what your gut’s telling you.

“And look, I remember we were pitching almost like a sequel within the [Zau] universe of it as a whole. And, you know, pitching that and seeing how that was going. And it was all right, like, it was fine.

“But it was after talking with Pocketpair and being like, ‘hey, I know you guys have just started your own publishing arm, and you’ve had your massive success [with Palworld], we’ve had our success. Like, is there maybe a collab here?’

“The idea of Dead Take kind of came into life there at the moment. And I think that’s the beauty of art, right? You can come up with these ideas, these crazy ideas, these stories, and act on it.”

With the idea greenlit, how did Salim go about assembling such a who’s who of the gaming world to act in the game?

“A lot of favours,” he tells us. “Literally calling them up and being like, ‘Hey, you want to be in my game?’

“I remember calling Ben Starr, being like, ‘Hey, buddy, do you want to be in my next game?’ And he was like, ‘Sure, great.’ And I was like, ‘You’re playing an actor who is really, really douchey at times,” Salim laughs.

“And even with Neil [Newbon], I was like, ‘Hey, Neil, I’ve got this new game idea. Do you want to be in it?’ And he’s like, ‘Yeah, sure, sign me up.’ And I’m like, ‘Great. You’re playing someone really desperate. Really needs work’,” he adds.

“That’s essentially how it all kind of came to fruition. It was just me calling these guys, explaining to them the concept, that it was this horrific take, or an angle on Hollywood that I wanted to not really hold back on.

“And they were totally game for it, because they could see the art in it. I think that’s the thing. They believed in the vision, and they trusted it. Again, I feel really fortunate to have friends who do that.”

Salim continues: “So yeah, it was a lot of calls and favour-calling, man. And it’s so funny, again, when I pitched this to Pocketpair. Keep in mind, none of [the actors] had attached themselves to the game.

“But I was like, ‘Yeah, and then I’ll get Ben Starr in it, Alanah Pearce in it. Yeah, they’ll all say yes’. And I’m thinking to myself, ‘I really hope they’re not busy.’”

Once the project was approved, Salim remembers, “We had seven months to make this game.”

“And not only that, you know, the way that we filmed it, we needed, literally… we could only do it in like a day or two. We couldn’t elongate it any more, so we had to do, like, one location, all actors at once, do it. Bash, bash, bash, get it all out the way.

“And again, testament to their skill, you know, there was a lot of dialog to learn, right? A lot of scenes to learn. But they did it. They completely smashed it out of the park, and did all the lines without a teleprompter or anything. They just committed, which is brilliant.

“And I know that they are literally the busiest actors within the video game space to date. They are always, constantly doing something, so I feel incredibly fortunate that they even gave me the time to do that.”

And where did the idea come from to have the actors appear in live-action cut scenes, but for their characters never to be seen in the gameplay segments?

“Budget,” Salim says with a laugh, before offering a more cerebral answer.

“It was really trying to keep the player immersed as much as possible. I think, as soon as you see a 3D character, you begin thinking that you’re in a game.

“You already think you’re in a game, you’re doing all these puzzles and all this sort of stuff in the environments. But like, as soon as you see an actual character, you are kind of taken out, and you’re reminded, ‘Oh, this is like an animation. It’s like a game.’

“Whereas, I really didn’t want that, I wanted to almost make you feel like this is real life. This is you, in this mansion, real life, dealing with this stuff, which is why, you know, even when it comes to the mannequins I told the team, they are basic, but the only thing that is different is each one has a different headshot of the actor, which is a real headshot,” he explains.

He ends by adding: “So, it still keeps you in the world of, ‘Oh, wow. This is real. This is, like, a real thing.’ It’s true. A lot of the stories that the game was inspired by are real stories. They are either stories or rumours that you hear in Hollywood. And I think it was important to depict that.”

Dead Take is out now on Steam and Epic.
