Vince Is Dead, Billy Burke Exits in Season 4 Trailer

by jummy84 September 23, 2025
written by jummy84

CBS isn’t going to make viewers wait until the Oct. 17 premiere to find out who survived the massive fire on “Fire Country.” On Tuesday, the first trailer for Season 4 revealed that Vince (Billy Burke) died in the burning building that the finale ended with, while both Sharon (Diane Farr) and Walter (Jeff Fahey) survived — and Bode (Max Thieriot) seemingly had to be locked in the truck in order to save him too.

In the trailer, Jake (Jordan Calloway) won’t allow Bode to run back inside; he yells, “I will never forgive this.”

After the fire, the trailer cuts to Bode giving a eulogy at his father’s funeral. “I’m going to spend the rest of my career protecting my father’s town, my father’s station, and my father’s mission,” he says. Later, it’s revealed that he feels that means he should be battalion chief, telling Jake (who, more qualified, wants the role), “It’s my birthright.”

The show’s creators opened up about the decision to kill off Vince, telling TVInsider that on a show about firefighters, it felt “truthful to the work that these people do” to have a death.

“Last season was about legacy — Vince dealing with the legacy of his father and using that as a lens to look at what his relationship with Bode was. And as we were talking about the end of the season, we felt like the thing that was really going to shake up the show and shake up our characters in the best way possible and force them to really reassess where they were and what they were doing was this kind of loss,” Tony Phelan said. “And so at the same time, we want to be very respectful of the character of Vince, of how important he is to the show, and how important Billy was as a presence on the show. So, the loss of Vince is going to echo through the entire season, and we are going to see our younger firefighters really have to begin to grapple with growing up and what is the next step for them.”

Elsewhere, the trailer previews a grieving Sharon telling the 42 they’re suspended from active duty and Audrey (Leven Rambin)’s return; plus, Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila) tells Bode she still loves him. Though back for the premiere, Arcila is exiting the series after the episode.

Emmy winner Shawn Hatosy also joins this season and can be briefly seen visiting the firefighters in the trailer. He’ll be portraying a new character who helps firefighters deal with loss.

2025 Bluegrass Music Awards Winners List: Billy Strings

by jummy84 September 20, 2025
written by jummy84

The 36th annual International Bluegrass Music Association Awards show felt a little different this go-round. Sure, the annual gathering of the genre overtook Chattanooga, Tennessee, for the first time this past week. But the bigger story was Billy Strings, who was in attendance to receive Entertainer of the Year honors.

“It just feels good to be back here and to be welcomed,” Strings tells Rolling Stone backstage. “And to also let these folks know that I’m still here with them. I haven’t abandoned bluegrass. I very much am still wanting to be here.”

A multifaceted guitar wizard who has singlehandedly brought bluegrass to the arena level, the singer-songwriter took home his fourth Entertainer win. Held at the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Auditorium, the award show was hosted by the banjo duo of Alison Brown and Steve Martin.

“Sometimes I feel that music of certain frequencies we’re drawn to at different points in time,” Brown says. “I think the authenticity of bluegrass music is something that speaks to people in the age of big-tech and A.I.”

For Strings, who was at IBMAs all this week, being present was more than just a full circle moment. It was also a chance to witness the bridging of generations of artists whose core resides in the storied “high, lonesome sound.” At one point during the conference, Strings jumped onstage with 90-year-old Paul Williams, best known for his work with bluegrass pillar Jimmy Martin & the Sunny Mountain Boys.

“The scene has changed, and actually for the better,” says Greg Cahill of bluegrass act the Special Consensus, who are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year. “People were worried about traditional bluegrass dying. Thank God for Billy Strings. He’s brought all these young people into [bluegrass].”

“I’m going to try to mix up the camo with the tie-dye a little bit, stir up the Nag Champa with the ‘Roll Tide,’” Strings said in his keynote address earlier this week. “We have to continue to welcome new voices, whose unique perspectives and experience will enrich our collective artistic expression. We’ve got to allow these fresh ideas to mingle with tradition.”

Editor’s picks

Strings’ sentiments rang true throughout the award show, especially when it came to this younger generation of musicians breaking into the mainstream. From Vickie Vaughn getting Bass Player of the Year to East Nash Grass’ Maddie Denton receiving Fiddle Player honors, these are crystal-clear signs of a new, bountiful era for bluegrass.

“There’s just something about this music that’s pure at its truest form,” says Sierra Hull, who was honored with her seventh Mandolin Player of the Year trophy. “When you can actually come and hear these instruments — just wire and wood and these three-part harmonies — there’s a truth to it that speaks to a lot of people.”

Those truths go back numerous decades, underscored by those being inducted into the Bluegrass Hall of Fame during the ceremony. This year’s newest members included Hot Rize, the Bluegrass Cardinals, and the late Arnold Shultz, an old-time Black musician who remains a pioneering influence on the formation of bluegrass.

“The bluegrass pendulum swings left and right, to the progressive side and back to traditional,” said Hot Rize mandolinist Tim O’Brien. “When Hot Rize started, it was a good time to run down the middle.”

Formed in 1978, Hot Rize were trailblazers when it came to keeping one foot in the traditions of bluegrass, the other in the natural progression of musical creativity and sonic curiosity — the result being where we stand today with the names like Strings, Hull, Molly Tuttle, and Sierra Ferrell.

“Our hair was long and our tongues were in our cheeks,” O’Brien says. “But we fed on the tried and true ingredients [of bluegrass]. We were just jamming, but we hit enough of the right notes.”

Fiddle virtuosos Jason Carter and Michael Cleveland garnered a handful of honors for their astounding record Carter & Cleveland, including Song, Album and Collaborative Recording of the Year. Each time their names were called, Carter would help Cleveland, who is blind, up to the podium to receive the awards, grins of gratitude appearing ear-to-ear.

“Michael has been one of my best friends for many years. He was the best man at my wedding,” Carter says. “We have played a lot of music together and have been talking about doing this record for 15 years. Kind of a dream come true to get to play with one of the greatest fiddle players that’s ever drawn a bow.”

The culmination of the awards show came with a poignant rendition of the late Ralph Stanley’s “Little Birdy.” With a murderers’ row of talent overtaking the stage, Strings was front and center alongside Del McCoury, Hull, Brown, Martin, Justin Moses, Jim Lauderdale, Deanie Richardson, and more.

“Little birdie, little birdie/Won’t you sing to me your song,” Strings howled into the heavens. “Got a short time to stay here/And a long time to be gone.”

How Did Billy Porter Get Sepsis? His Health & Updates on His Condition – Hollywood Life

Billy Porter is one of the most iconic and theatrical performers out there, and until recently, he was starring as Emceee in Broadway’s Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club. Unfortunately, he had to back out due to a “serious case of sepsis,” the company shared in September 2025. Naturally, fans of Billy were concerned about his condition and wondered how he even got it in the first place.

“Due to a serious case of sepsis, Billy Porter must also withdraw from the production,” a statement from the production’s Instagram account read. “His doctors are confident that he will make a full recovery but have advised him to maintain a restful schedule.”

Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club is also closing earlier than expected. The final show is scheduled to take place on September 7, 2025.

Below, Hollywood Life has updates on Billy’s health, and we’re explaining what we know so far about his case of sepsis.

Who Is Billy Porter?

Only one of the entertainment industry’s most charismatic performers, of course! Billy has established himself as an on-screen and stage talent. On Broadway, he earned a Tony Award for his electrifying performance as Lola in Kinky Boots, and he appeared in major productions, including Smokey Joe’s Café and Grease. On screen, Billy gained international recognition for his Emmy Award-winning role as Pray Tell in FX’s Pose. He also starred as the memorable Fairy Godmother in Amazon’s Cinderella and voiced Randall Leibowitz-Jenkins in Disney+’s The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.

When it came to Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, Billy opened up about his and co-star Marisha Wallace‘s experiences as the first Black actors to portray their respective roles in the show.

“Our backstories are, we fled the Jim Crow South to go to Europe, thinking we would be free, only to be then carted off with the Jewish people to our deaths,” Billy told New York Theatre Guide in July 2025. “It’s simple. It’s ourselves. We bring our authentic selves to these roles. And simply, as African Americans, that’s all we need to do.”

How Did Billy Porter Get Sepsis?

At the time of publication, Billy has not commented on his condition, but it typically occurs when the body reacts dangerously to an infection. According to the Cleveland Clinic, bacterial infections — fungal, parasitic and viral — are the most common causes of sepsis.

Since sepsis is not contagious, it can’t spread to other people.

What Is Sepsis? Explaining the Condition

Sepsis is a condition that happens to the body when its immune system has a harmful reaction to an infection. It results in inflammation that could lead to tissue damage and organ failure.

Sepsis can be fatal if not treated properly.

Broadway’s ‘Cabaret’ Closes Early Amid Billy Porter’s Sepsis Diagnosis

by jummy84 September 7, 2025
written by jummy84

Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club is closing its doors earlier than planned following Billy Porter’s sudden departure from the production due to health concerns.

On Sunday (Sept. 7), producers of the Broadway revival announced that the 55-year-old Tony Award-winning actor and musician, who stars as the Emcee, is recovering from a “serious case” of sepsis, according to People. While Porter is expected to make a full recovery, doctors have advised him to rest.

“Billy was an extraordinary Emcee, bringing his signature passion and remarkable talent,” wrote producer Adam Speers of ATG Productions. “We wish Billy a speedy recovery and I look forward to working with him again in the very near future.”

As a result, the acclaimed revival of the John Kander and Fred Ebb musical — which began its Broadway run in April 2024 with Eddie Redmayne and Gayle Rankin — will now conclude its engagement at New York City’s August Wilson Theatre on Sept. 21, nearly a month earlier than its originally scheduled closing date of Oct. 19.

Porter and actress-singer Marisha Wallace, who stars as Sally Bowles, joined the production on July 22 after a run in London’s West End.

In the Broadway show’s final weeks, the role of the Emcee will be performed in rotation by longtime alternates Marty Lauter and David Merino, with the performance schedule to be shared on Cabaret’s official social media channels.

Originally debuting on Broadway in 1966 and later adapted into the iconic 1972 film, Cabaret follows a group of characters navigating the final days of Weimar Germany, embracing the hedonistic, impoverished lifestyles of Berlin while ignoring the Nazi party’s rise to power.

Porter’s departure comes amid declining box office performance for the high-cost production. Grosses have dipped to around $500,000, with audience capacity falling below 70% in recent weeks, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Billy Bragg Shares New Protest Song “Hundred Year Hunger” for Palestine: Listen

by jummy84 September 1, 2025
written by jummy84

Billy Bragg, the British folk-rock singer and lifelong figure in protest music, has shared a new song for Palestine. The release coincides with the launch of the Global Sumud Flotilla, which set sail yesterday (August 31) to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. Written and performed by Bragg, with additional keyboards and backing vocals by JJ Stoney, “Hundred Year Hunger” takes its title from the book of the same name by E Mark Windle. Give it a listen below.

Bragg explained the song’s backstory on Instagram, writing, “‘Hundred Year Hunger’ looks at the current famine that Israel has created in Gaza through the lens of a century of enforced food insecurity and malnutrition imposed on the Palestinian people, firstly by British imperialism, then as a weapon of mass displacement by the state of Israel.”

“Sumud is an Arabic word which translates into English as steadfastness or perseverance,” he continued. “It is used by Palestinians to describe their nonviolent everyday resistance against Israel’s occupation. Sumud emphasises the commitment of the Palestinian people to remain on their land despite hardship and oppression, elevating their everyday existence into a form of resistance. Lan narhal translates as ‘we will not leave’. Together ‘Sumud! Sumud! Lan narhal’ conveys the determination of the Palestinian people to refuse to be displaced.”

It’s been four years since Bragg last released a full-length album, 2021’s The Million Things That Never Happened. He did team up with R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe for a collaborative cover of Eric Bogle’s “My Youngest Son Came Home Today” in 2023, though. Bragg originally covered that track for his 1990 album The Internationale, slightly modifying the 1982 war protest song, which was inspired by the Troubles.

Asleep at the Wheel Pay Tribute to Texas, Play With Billy Strings

Asleep at the Wheel Pay Tribute to Texas, Play With Billy Strings

by jummy84 September 1, 2025
written by jummy84

When Asleep at the Wheel decided to record a record of Texas-centric songs to commemorate the Western swing outfit spending 50 of its 55 years in the Lone Star State, Ray Benson had a simple request: “Let’s just do songs about Texas that mean something to you.”

The result is Riding High in Texas, a celebration of all things Texas, out now. The record features covers of high-profile artists and songwriters and an array of special guests across its 10 tracks, including Lyle Lovett, Brennen Leigh, and Billy Strings.

Lovett joins Asleep at the Wheel to reprise his version of “Long Tall Texan,” and Leigh contributes vocals on a cover of the Carter Family’s “Lonesome Pine Special.” Meanwhile, Strings plays guitar on the album-opening title track after Benson called in a favor with the modern-day bluegrass torchbearer.

Benson appeared in Strings’ 2024 spaghetti western video for “Seven Months in County,” playing, in Benson’s words, “the old codger to be Strings’ cellmate.” During that shoot, Benson decided Strings needed to play on “Riding High in Texas.”

“We became friendly,” Benson tells Rolling Stone. “When they booked me to do his film, I just asked him, ‘Hey, could you play on this?’ And I tell you what, that guy is busier than anybody, and he fit it in. Good thing, because I don’t play that kind of flatpicking stuff well enough.”

While the guests add intrigue and twists to the 32nd studio album for Asleep at the Wheel, the constant is the band’s fiddle-forward Western swing sound played over a series of songs that evoke the Lone Star State. Renditions of “All My Exes (Live in Texas)” and “T for Texas” lay that point bare, while covers of Guy Clark (“Texas Cookin”) and Ernest Tubb (“Texas in My Soul”) serve as reminders of Benson’s appreciation for Texas’s songwriting icons.

Asleep at the Wheel are a constantly-evolving project rather than a set-in-stone band, which is evident with the addition of Ian Stewart, who joined the band on fiddle in 2024 but quickly took over some vocal duties for the 74-year-old Benson. Riding High in Texas has Stewart swapping lead vocals with Benson, but the highlight is his fiddle playing on “Beaumont Rag,” the record’s instrumental closing track.

Editor’s picks

“Ian joined the band,” Benson says, “after I hired him as a fiddle player, but when it was obvious that he was gonna share singing, I said, ‘Bring some stuff.’ I hope that everybody who’s in this band will bring something to the table, so that I don’t have to say, ‘Do this.’ This is a collaborative thing.

“In the contest world, where the fiddlers get together, Texas goes back to some guys from the Twenties and Thirties, after Bob Wills. They were not swing fiddlers, but they had a little swing in them, and that’s what ‘Beaumont Rag’ really shows. So, I said, ‘Ian, you’re a Texas fiddler, and you’re gonna have to play that. Let’s put it on this album,’ and he worked it up real good.”

Before Riding High in Texas was released, Asleep at the Wheel already started touring the record, and they have a full schedule ahead of them, including festival stops at Austin City Limits and the Avett Brothers’ Moon Crush: Avett Moon in Miramar Beach, Florida, in October. The group was also inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in August, which Benson attributes to the band embracing the Lone Star State since relocating there in 1974.

He also says that relentless touring and a constant churn of new music help him maintain a focus, even with a catalog and accolades that could justify slowing down or retiring altogether.

Trending Stories

“The legacy of Asleep at the Wheel, I think, is pretty firmly entrenched. But my outlets are still creating music, and bringing people together — always by collaboration,” Benson says. “I don’t see any way out of this mess unless I do something. Otherwise, I’ll feel useless.”

Love Is Blind UK’s Ashleigh says Billy should’ve said “no” at the altar

by jummy84 September 1, 2025
written by jummy84

Plenty of viewers flocked to the final episode to see what Billy’s decision would be, with Ashleigh ready to get married and, to her delight, Billy too. That was until three months in, as Ashleigh told RadioTimes.com, when the army physical trainer ended their marriage.

In an exclusive interview ahead of the reunion, Ashleigh explained she felt as though Billy began “dating [her] again and exploring things” while married, while she “went into the marriage as a marriage”.

“[I was] looking forward to the future, looking forward to him moving down south and as soon as the cameras were off, he didn’t want to come to the south,” she explained. “He didn’t have any intention of moving to the south, which was huge because how are we going to make this marriage work if you’re not going to compromise slightly on that?”

Ashleigh and Billy. Netflix

When it came to the end of the relationship, Ashleigh told RadioTimes.com that Billy expressed he felt “disconnected” from her, and he “wasn’t willing to fight or anything else and that was really heartbreaking”.

She added: “So that happened in the January and [it was] a shock. I wish he was braver and I wish he truly thought about what he wanted because I think he should’ve said no to me at the altar.”

Upon reflection, Billy told RadioTimes.com that while he did feel disconnected from Ashleigh, it was her job as cabin crew that saw his withdrawal from the marriage.

He explained: “Coming on the show I never wanted to be here. I think you kind of have to be true to yourself, so when me and Ashleigh stepped away, all my worst fears came true. It became a challenge, being cabin crew, and I personally feel like I tried as hard as I possibly could going down to see her. But the one thing you can’t account for is jet lag.

“So yeah she’s away for a couple days but when she comes back, she has to rest. So it’s always me going down and it just took its toll and then we just started distancing. We stopped saying ‘I love you’, we were disconnecting and it was probably more me than her, but we just got to a turning point where we had to go one way or the other and unfortunately I made the decision and said, ‘No, that’s us done.'”

Billy had been married and divorced before, something he didn’t want to happen again outside of the pods, noting that his split from Ashleigh was the “hardest” break-up he has done because he “genuinely cared for her so much and I still do”.

Miley Cyrus Gave Dad Billy Ray Cyrus an Original Song For His 64th Bday

by jummy84 August 26, 2025
written by jummy84

Billy Ray Cyrus knows daughter Miley Cyrus will definitely love him now that he’s turned 64 because she showed him in a song. The country singer celebrated his birthday this week with a very special gift from his daughter: an unreleased song called “Secrets” featuring two of his all-time favorite rock stars.

“For my birthday, Miley gave me the gift of music and wrote me a song called ‘Secrets’ and got my favorite musicians Fleetwood Mac to play on it! I love you Mile,” Billy Ray wrote on Instagram in a birthday post on Monday in which he wanders around in a field seemingly listening to the gentle ballad on his phone with a big smile on his face.

“Secrets, I want to keep your secrets/ Like sunlight in the shadows/ Like footsteps in the grass,” Miley sings on the track. “I won’t ever break my promise/ Like a songbird in the silence/ Like stones against the glass.” According to People, Miley previewed the song featuring Fleetwood Mac’s Mick Fleetwood and Lindsey Buckingham in June during her interview on Monica Lewinsky’s podcast, in which she talked about how writing the song helped her resolve the long-running tensions between her and her dad.

“I wrote this song about my dad because I wanted him to tell me even though there were secrets, even though I didn’t really want to know,” she told Lewinsky. “I wanted to be the one he felt safe enough to tell me the things that were damning and damaging to the family. I wanted him to think that as a middle child, I’m old enough that I could take some of that.”

That’s not the only way Billy Ray is celebrating. The singer said he’s also giving back this year by sharing a remix of his breakthrough 1990 hit, “Achy Breaky Heart.” In an Instagram post featuring throwback video from his mega-mullet days, Cyrus wrote, “From the very first time I sang ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ in the spring of ’91 to this remix today, it’s all because of YOU. I teamed up with [the song’s writer] Don Von Tress and The Johnson Mill Branch Boys on a brand-new ‘Achy Breaky Heart (Remix)’ as my gift to the fans. None of this would have been possible without the support of y’all through the years.”

“Achy Breaky Heart” hit No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Hot Country singles and tracks chart back in the day, giving Cyrus his biggest chart hit until his 2018 remix team-up with Lil Nas X on the Hot 100 No. 1 smash “Old Town Road.”

Billy Idol Rocks as Hard as Ever at Electrifying MSG Show

by jummy84 August 22, 2025
written by jummy84

Not only is Billy Idol still dancing, he’s still rocking — and three months’ shy of his 70th birthday, the music icon hasn’t lost a step, as he proved with a rousing show on Wednesday night (August 20th) at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. Along with a stellar support set by fellow rock legend Joan Jett, it was one helluva double bill.

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts kicked off the evening with a 15-song set, including a couple tunes by her groundbreaking ’70s band The Runaways (“Cherry Bomb” and “You Drive Me Wild”). Other standouts included her covers of The Replacements’ “Androgynous,” Sly & the Family Stone’s “Everyday People,” and Tommy James’ “Crimson & Clover,” as well as a couple tunes that started out as covers but have since become signature songs for Jett: “Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)” and “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll.”

Throughout the evening, Jett shared stories of her early days in New York City, where she started her solo career after The Runaways broke up. She ended the night with the classics “I Hate Myself for Loving You” and “Bad Reputation,” receiving a very warm response from the nearly full Madison Square Garden crowd.

It was then time for the main event, as Billy Idol’s backing band took the stage, led by longtime guitarist Steve Stevens. A moment later, the veteran punk rocker appeared to a huge ovation, launching the set with “Still Dancing,” the lead single from his new album, Dream Into It.

The early part of the show was highlighted by classics like “Cradle of Love,” “Flesh for Fantasy,” “Eyes Without a Face,” and “Mony Mony,” along with a blistering solo by Stevens, who’s an absolute virtuoso on the guitar. The biggest surprise was an incredible cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter” featuring mind-blowing vocals by backup singer Jessica Childress.

At one point, Idol yielded the stage to his guitarist Billy Morrison to pay tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne. Morrison was a close friend of the metal legend, having co-hosted a show on SiriusXM and collaborated on songwriting in recent years. The guitarist led an “Ozzy, Ozzy” chant at Madison Square Garden, as an image of the Prince of Darkness appeared on the big screen serving as the stage’s backdrop.
