The Best Beauty Staples To Buy At Ulta, According To An Editor

by jummy84 August 25, 2025
written by jummy84

As a composition-happy, magazine-obsessed girl growing up in the aughts, a beauty editor was the one and only thing I wanted to be when I grew up. It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have actually landed the career I always dreamed of, and there really isn’t a single thing about my job that I don’t love. That being said, and this may sound strange, but I do miss the casual in-person shopping trips that made me fall for beauty in the first place. These days, so many amazing products are sent straight to my doorstep for testing (I know, rough life!) that there’s really no need for me to stop at a favorite retailer like Ulta unless I’m buying gifts or am in dire need of a specific product re-stock.

That being said… whenever I do find myself meandering the aisles of an Ulta store, I feel 15 again and have zero impulse control when it comes to the contents of my shopping basket. I rarely make it out of the store under $250 and my most recent trip featuring 12 products did a $272 number on my credit card. (Although averaging about $22 per product isn’t that bad?!) Regardless, this particular haul was too good and too worth it not to share—keep scrolling to find out which products I’d immediately add to your Ulta cart!

The Brow Glue Crazy Lift

NYX Professional Makeup

The Brow Glue Crazy Lift

What can I say, BeautyTok got me with this one! In all my years of doing makeup, I’ve never—not once—used brow gels. And yet, this clear 24-hour hold formula from NYX has finally broken the spell. I know lots of brow gels promise a lamination-like effect, but they’ve never delivered for me. This one lifts, flattens, and pretty much plasters my brows to my skin (in a good way, I promise) with zero flakes or goop. I’m obsessed, and it’s even lasted through super-sweaty workouts.

Bubble Blending Multipurpose Makeup Brush

Real Techniques

Bubble Blending Multipurpose Makeup Brush

This $12 brush can do anything and everything better than its more expensive counterparts. I’ve seen celebrity makeup artists gush over its blending powers, and the ultra-soft feel and handily rounded “bubble” shape allows you to easily hit hard-to-blend areas like under the eyes and around the nose.

Color Wow, Travel Size Dream Coat Supernatural Spray

Color Wow

Travel Size Dream Coat Supernatural Spray

There is simply no better formula for ultra smooth, hydrated, and glassy strands. I had to pick up a mini because I refuse to travel without it—it’s what I call good hair day insurance.

Body Wash - Salt Water Vanilla

Saltair

Body Wash in Salt Water Vanilla

Ugh. The way I am obsessed with this Salt Water Vanilla body wash from Saltair. The scent (vanilla, sea salt, and sandalwood) is heavenly, it lathers beautifully, and it never leaves my skin feeling dry, tight, or itchy post-shower. I also plan to re-stock the matching body oil the second I run out.

Chromaplus 6-Pan Eyeshadow Palette - Outer Spice

Morphe

Chromaplus 6-Pan Eyeshadow Palette in Outer Spice

I rarely wear eye shadow, but when I walked by Morphe’s Chromaplus palettes, I just had to have one. The photo online can’t really do it justice—just wait until you see this one in person.

Hydrating Milky Toner

BYOMA

Hydrating Milky Toner

There is a very popular, very viral milky toner on the market that gets all of the attention and hype. Yes, that one is good, but this one is better and more affordable. (It’s also so insanely good for pre-makeup skin prep!)

True Match Lumi Glotion Natural Glow Bronzing Enhancer - 903 Medium

L’Oréal

True Match Lumi Glotion Natural Glow Bronzing Enhancer

I call this my $18 hack for flawless skin. It blurs, hydrates, bronzes, and adds the perfect amount of glow to the face. It’s a true multitasker, so feel free to use it on its own, as a primer, or even mixed into and/or dabbed on top of your makeup as more of a highlighter. This is another makeup artist drugstore favorite—see here for proof!

Volume Spray 25 - 10.0 Oz

Kenra Professional

Volume Spray 25

Salon blowout hair, bottled. I’ve spent the last year trying to figure out why my hair looks (and lasts!) so much better when my hairstylist styles my hair compared to when I do it. I use pretty much all of the same products she uses at the salon, and I’ve even mastered her exact technique for beachy waves. Turns out, this finishing spray is the culprit. It’s the one thing she uses that I don’t, so I had to change that. It adds shine, hold, volume, and 72-hour humidity resistance!

Sleep: Sleep Tight Gummies

Lemme

Sleep: Sleep Tight Gummies

I’m not a good sleeper, and these gummies from Lemme have pretty much changed that. The berry flavor is great with no weird aftertaste, and the strategic mix of melatonin, magnesium, and botanicals ensures I sleep like a baby.

Eternal Roots Parfum Travel Spray

‘Ôrəbella

Eternal Roots Parfum Travel Spray

I’m so in love with the brand new ‘Ôrəbella scent, Eternal Roots, that I had to grab the travel size. The brand describes it as a “woody fruity” fragrance, which feels pretty spot on to me. It’s lush, juicy, earthy, and just sweet enough to keep it mellow and skin-like. It’s how I’d imagine forest fairies would smell after a rain shower. Need more convincing? I highly recommend watching our NYC office review.

Phantom Volumizing Glossy Balm - Trace 105

HOURGLASS

Phantom Volumizing Glossy Balm in Trace

I swear I own almost every single shade of the Hourglass glossy balms, and it’s still never enough! This is my ride-or-die lip product that has pretty much made the rest of my lip collection obsolete. It’s everything I need in one product (shine! pigment! plumping!) and Trace—a very chic and versatile shade of beige—is my latest fixation. (However, Invite, Haze, Rise, Desire, and Impulse are also frequent flyers in my rotation.)

Lusso Self-Tanning Mousse in Medium to Dark

Dolce Glow

Lusso Self-Tanning Mousse in Medium to Dark

This stuff is expensive but so worth it if you’re someone who self tans. The color is the most natural I’ve found (not too orange and not too green—IYKYK) and it looks fresh for days and days after you’ve applied. It doesn’t streak, it keeps the skin moisturized, and it dries quickly so you don’t feel like a swamp creature for hours post-application. How long you leave it on will determine how deep your tan will be—you can rinse off in two hours if you want a light glow, but I usually let it marinate for at least six hours to get the rich tan I love.

9 Cuban-American-Owned Brands Serving Beauty, Style & Culture

by jummy84 August 25, 2025
written by jummy84

I grew up in Union City, New Jersey, which sometimes gets referred to as “Little Havana on the Hudson.” It’s home to one of the biggest Cuban communities outside of Miami, thanks to waves of Cuban immigrants who settled there over the decades. Walking around, you see it in restaurants like Dos Amigos (where the only thing on the menu is a pan con bistec), the way the Cuban flag flies right below the U.S. one around town, and in the Celia Cruz Plaza on 32nd street. So it’s no wonder that anytime I go home, I have to grab a Cuban sandwich, Cuban links have always been part of my necklace stack, and even my Colombian dad will casually drop an “asere” around his coworkers.
That magnetism is what makes Cuban culture so distinct. With about 1.5 million Cuban Americans across the U.S., their culture quietly (or not so quietly) influences what we see, wear, and experience every day. If you’re looking to support Cuban fashion, try mojo-inspired sauces, or discover more Cuban American-owned businesses worth backing, here are some you should definitely check out.

Clandestina emerged from Havana’s creative underground, blending Cuban humor, tropical vibes, and a commitment to sustainable fashion. Since 2015, the brand has filled a gap showcasing the resilience and everyday joy of Cuba through clothing designed to uplift both community and the planet.

Kathleen Fuentes, aka KathleenLights, is a Cuban-American beauty YouTuber who launched her brand Lights Lacquer in 2019 to bring her passion for color and creativity to nail polish. Inspired by her cultural heritage and the energy of Miami, the brand offers vegan and cruelty-free shades that celebrate self-expression through nail art.

Xio by Ylette is a mystical, magic-infused, Miami-made jewelry brand crafting pieces inspired by symbols of luck and the stars, designed to help you communicate and manifest with the universe. Founded by Ylette Luis, each piece is made with love to bring a little extra power and intention to your everyday life.

Albisa Candles, founded by first-gen Cuban Americans Isabel and Albert, is a family-run brand that creates hand-poured candles inspired by Cuban culture and heritage. Their cafetera candles capture the nostalgia of seeing a cafetera on the stove during morning coffee, with a warm café con leche scent that feels just as familiar.

Born from a rich family legacy in men’s sportswear, Cubavera was launched in 2000 by Cuban-born George Feldenkris and his team to celebrate Latine culture through clothing. Taking inspiration from the traditional guayabera, the brand reimagines this iconic style with modern fabrics and designs.
Cubavera Cubavera’s Embroidered Guayabera Shirt, $, available at CUBAVERA
Alamar Cosmetics is named after Gabriela Trujillo’s Cuban hometown, where her story started before her family immigrated to Miami. What began as a teen passion for makeup quickly turned into a career and, now, a brand that celebrates culture, creativity, and the hustle of paving your own path.
Alamar Cosmetics Alamar Cosmetics’ Colorete Blush Trio, $, available at Alamar Cosmetics
Tres Lindas Cubanas Cigars are more than just premium cigars. They’re a celebration of Afro-Cuban heritage and sisterhood. Founded by Yvette and Yvonne Rodriguez, visionaries who honor their grandmother’s legacy, the brand crafts hand-rolled cigars made with Nicaraguan tobacco and aims to bring more diversity to the cigar industry.
Tres Linda Cubanas Tres Linda Cubanas Assorted Heritage Collection, $, available at Tres Linda Cubanas
During a family pig roast on Nochebuena in 2015, Mario Cruz and his son Kevin experimented with their traditional Cuban mojo marinade to create a spicy hot sauce. Since then, Bárbaro Mojo has grown from a homemade favorite to a recognized Cuban hot sauce admired for its authentic flavor.
Barbaro Mojo Barbaro Mojo Cuban Hot Sauce Gift Pack, $, available at Barbaro Mojo
Starting in a kitchen in the U.S. after emigrating from Cuba, founders Roy and Ines brought a taste of their homeland to their U.S. Latine community with homemade roasted coffee. What began as door-to-door sales has grown into Café Aroma, a family-run business that’s been serving the same traditional espresso blend for more than 60 years.
Café Aroma Café Aroma Espresso Can, $, available at Café Aroma

Like what you see? How about some more R29 goodness, right here?

11 of Sofia Richie Grainge’s Best Beauty Looks

by jummy84 August 25, 2025
written by jummy84

When Sofia Richie Grainge got married at the historic Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in the south of France in 2023, little did we know that an entire aesthetic would also be born. Interest in her minimal makeup approach and quiet luxury-esque hair (the slicked-back updos and perfectly coiffed beach waves have been favorited, liked, and saved a million times over) skyrocketed and we couldn’t get enough of what she was using to get that effortless chic style. Today, Richie Grainge turns 27, and her influence on the clean girl beauty remains unmatched.

“I really try to inspire girls to embrace their own beauty instead of masking it with a ton of makeup. I think that’s empowered me, and that’s kind of how I’ve gotten to the space I am in beauty,” she once told Vogue. “I’m happy to encourage women to do what makes them feel comfortable. Wear makeup! Wear as much makeup as you want, as little makeup as you want, but if you really want to wear less makeup and do the ‘less is more’ approach, here are my tricks to doing it.”

To celebrate her birthday (and the early days of Virgo season, which seems fitting), we take a look back at some of her most defining and signature clean girl beauty looks to date. Scroll on below and be prepared to save one—or all—for whenever you need inspo.

Alia Bhatt’s No-Makeup Selfie Is The Perfect Reminder That Natural Beauty Is The Best Beauty | Glamsham.com

by jummy84 August 24, 2025

Bollywood star Alia Bhatt has again set the internet ablaze with her beautiful no-makeup selfies. Posting a sneak peek of her island getaway, Alia showed that her natural beauty and glowing skin don’t require any filters. Wearing a vibrant orange bikini and posing effortlessly, the actress showcased her acne-free skin with the caption, “Hair by: sea salt and ocean breeze.” Fans filled the comments section with heart and fire emojis, complimenting her beauty and radiance.

Family Time on a Tropical Island

The actress is taking it easy on vacation with her loved ones. Shaheen Bhatt, her sister, posted several pictures from the outing on Instagram and captioned her post “Island Interlude.” The photo carousel had a stunning group picture of Alia, Shaheen, their mom Soni Razdan, and Shaheen’s beau Ishaan Mehra. In another video, Alia could be seen exercising alongside a man suspected to be Ishaan, proving that she does not miss a workout even when on a break.

Juggling Family and Films

Despite being in vacation mode, Alia Bhatt has a packed work schedule. She is currently filming Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Love & War’, which stars her husband Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal. The film is one of the most anticipated releases and marks another collaboration between Bhatt and Bhansali after their successful venture ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi.’

Trouble for YRF’s ‘Alpha’?

Alia’s upcoming large-scale project, ‘Alpha’, under the YRF Spy Universe brand has also been marred in controversy. With the poor reception of ‘War 2’, helmed by Ayan Mukerji and featuring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, YRF has apparently been playing safe with their upcoming spy movies.

Aditya Chopra himself has taken charge of ‘Alpha’ owing to fears regarding director Shiv Rawail’s lack of experience, reports a report by journalist Subhash K Jha. Rawail had directed the mini-series The Railway Men before, but working on a high-budgeted spy thriller is a new area for him to venture into. With ‘War 2’ receiving a weak response, the stakes are high for ‘Alpha’ in which Alia Bhatt is seen playing a lead role.

All Eyes on Alia

With a flourishing career, a romantic personal life, and a devoted fan following, Alia Bhatt remains in the spotlight. Whether it’s taking a relaxed no-makeup selfie or heading a high-profile movie, Alia shows she’s a force to be looked up to—both off and on screen.
