Dame Julie Andrews has finally won an Emmy Award for her Bridgerton voice-over performance as Lady Whistledown.

Dame Julie Andrews finally wins Emmy award for Bridgerton role

The 89-year-old actress was previously nominated for the Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance award in 2021, 2022 and 2023 and now in 2025 she has emerged victorious at last, beating off strong competition from Hank Azaria for The Simpsons, Maya Rudolph in Big Mouth, Alan Tudyk for Andor, Jeffrey Wright in What If…? and Invincible’s Steven Yeun.

2025 Creative Arts Emmys presenter Craig Robinson accepted the award on behalf of Andrews, who did not attend the ceremony.

Andrews was previously nominated at the Emmys for her role as Lady Whistledown in Bridgerton in 2021 and 2022 and again in 2023 for Queen Charlotte.

Bridgerton premiered on Netflix in 2020 and Andrews previously revealed she had never met any of her co-stars.

She told the Today show: “You know I’ve never met the company in person. Of course, I see them on the show sometimes. But I do all my recording far, far away from them.

“I think it’s gorgeous looking, and they’re all wonderful in it and they’re lovely people to work with. [Producer] Shonda Rhimes and the whole gang down, they’re terrific. And I’m thrilled that they asked me.”

Meanwhile, the top nominees were among the top winners on the first night of the 77th Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday (06.09.25), which was devoted to scripted programming and animation.

The Studio, starring Seth Rogen (who cocreated it with longtime partner Evan Goldberg) won nine awards, followed by Colin Farrell’s The Penguin with eight Emmys and psychological drama Severance, with six.

Severance had led the way with 27 nominations, The Penguin had 24 and The Studio tied for third with The White Lotus at 23.

The Studio’s awards included guest actor in a comedy series for Bryan Cranston, contemporary costumes for a series; production design for a narrative show (half-hour); casting for a comedy series; picture editing for a single camera comedy series; sound editing for a comedy or drama series (half-hour); sound mixing for a comedy or drama series (half-hour) and animation; music supervision; and cinematography for a series (half-hour).

The Penguins awards included contemporary makeup (non-prosthetic); prosthetic makeup; contemporary costumes for a limited or anthology series or movie; contemporary hairstyling; special visual effects in a single episode; sound editing for a limited or anthology series, movie or special; sound mixing for a limited or anthology series or movie; and music composition for a limited or anthology series, movie or special (original dramatic score).

Severance scored awards for guest actress in a drama series for Merritt Wever, production design for a narrative contemporary show (one hour or more); title design; sound mixing for a comedy or drama series (one hour); music composition for a series (original dramatic score); cinematography for a series (one hour).

Andor, Arcane and Love, Death + Robot all picked up four Emmys each.

Ava Duvernay and Stacey Allaster accept Billie Jean King Champions of Equality award

NEW YORK — Filmmaker Ava Duvernay and U.S. Open tournament director Stacey Allaster accepted the Billie Jean King Champions of Equality Award on Thursday, in honor of their groundbreaking work in the film and sports industries.

Ava Duvernay and Stacey Allaster accept Billie Jean King Champions of Equality award

The award is given to trailblazers in gender equality, and was started in 2023 in honor of the 50th anniversary of King securing equal pay for women at the U.S. Open.

The event also recognized members from across the USTA’s 17 sections for their dedication to advancing inclusivity in the sport.

“It was beautiful to be thought of. Certainly Billie Jean King is an icon way beyond the sport,” Duvernay told The Associated Press before the awards ceremony. “Anytime I have an opportunity to be around her or to be associated with her, it’s an honor.”

Duvernay is a filmmaker who has directed films like “Selma” and “A Wrinkle in Time.” She was the first Black woman to direct a film nominated for best picture at the Academy Awards and to win Best Director at Sundance Film Festival.

Allaster is the first woman to be the U.S. Open’s tournament director, and will be leaving the position at the end of this tournament. She has previously served as the chairman and CEO of the Women’s Tennis Association, where she led a team that helped secure equal prize money at the French Open and Wimbledon.

The prior two recipients of the award are tennis legend Venus Williams and television producer Shonda Rhimes, who joined Duvernay in a panel discussion about their careers and equality at the ceremony.

“When you deny equity, you make your own world smaller,” Williams said. “The world is so big. There’s so many things to experience and to know and to understand. … It’s an incredible world, if you allow it to be.”

Balmaination Took Over Lincoln Center as Olivier Rousteing Accepted the Couture Council Award

by jummy84 September 4, 2025
written by jummy84

“I never had an example, so I became my own,” Olivier Rousteing told the crowd at Lincoln Center as he accepted the 2025 Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion. For the Balmain creative director—who, as a young, Black designer, carved his path in an industry that offered few role models—those words carried particular resonance. Speaking with characteristic power and poise, Rousteing set the tone for a luncheon that celebrated both his artistry and his barrier-breaking career.

As creative director of Balmain, Rousteing has long forged his own path, and The Museum at FIT’s annual Couture Council luncheon recognized exactly that. “We’ve been having the Couture Council benefit luncheon for about 15 years now,” Valerie Steele, director and chief curator of the museum, told Vogue ahead of the event. “We’ve honored people like Mr. Valentino and Karl Lagerfeld, and I’m so thrilled to honor Olivier this year. He really emphasizes diversity, reaching out, and encouraging people that they can make it too.”

In the green room before the reception, Rousteing spoke candidly: “Being here today with FIT is beyond an honor. It’s so prestigious. It is a dream of a child. It is a dream of a creative director. It’s something I never believed would happen in my life.”

Soon, Lincoln Center began to fill with luminaries—Martha Stewart, Jeremy Pope (who presented Rousteing with the award), and a host of fashion and art patrons. The cocktail reception was awash in Balmain signatures: sharp tailoring, glinting gold buttons, pristine pleats. That aesthetic carried into the grand dining room, where guests dined on watermelon carpaccio and halibut with zucchini garnish.

On stage, Rousteing captivated the audience with his thoughtful words, humility, and evocative storytelling. More than accolades, it was clear his true aim is to inspire. Following the luncheon, he planned to address FIT students. “More than just getting the prize today, I am so proud to talk to the students,” he told Vogue. “I started at 24 as a creative director, so giving advice to younger people is such an incredible moment of my life. What I have done in my career is all to help the future generation not go through what I went through. I’m proud of that today.”

When asked what advice he would impart, Rousteing offered three points: “One: Be yourself. We are in a world where it’s not easy to be yourself. It sounds cheesy, but with social media and everything happening in the world, you can be influenced by what surrounds you. Two: Don’t give up. Whatever the industry, always fight for success and stick to your values. There are a lot of obstacles, but resilience will help you reach your goal. Three: Find your own wisdom. In life, no matter what you do, you need to find your wisdom, peace, and serenity with yourself. Something I always say at Balmain with my team is that I would rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I’m not. That is really important, because life is about taking risks and being disruptive.”

Disruptive and daring—Rousteing will settle for nothing less. To the Couture Council, it is precisely those who break barriers who are most deserving of recognition. For the FIT students, his words promise to be as unforgettable as his designs.

Corporation for Public Broadcasting to Receive 2025 Governors Award

Corporation for Public Broadcasting to Receive 2025 Governors Award

by jummy84 September 2, 2025
written by jummy84

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting will be the recipient of the 2025 Governors Award at the Creative Arts Emmys, at which the Television Academy will recognize the organization’s five decades of “enriching America’s media landscape through funding and support for educational, cultural and public-interest programming,” the group announced on Tuesday.

On Sunday, Sept. 7, the trophy will be presented to Patricia de Stacy Harrison, the longest-serving president and CEO of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Harrison has led CPB since 2005 — through the complex streaming age, in other words.

Unfortunately, an Emmy Award itself is not real, solid gold, which is what CPB really needs these days. In July, Congress voted to eliminate all funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. NPR and PBS were the highest-profile victims. In response, PBS has sued the Trump administration.

“The Governors Award recognizes and celebrates extraordinary contributions that transcend television and transform society,” Television Academy chair Cris Abrego said in a statement on Tuesday. “For more than half a century, CPB has been a steadfast champion of storytelling that informs, educates and unites us and ensures public media remains a vital space where diverse voices are heard and communities are served. With this award, we honor CPB’s enduring legacy and its extraordinary impact on the cultural and civic life of our nation.”

The Governors Award is bestowed by the Television Academy’s Board of Governors and honors an individual, company or organization that has made “a profound, transformational and long-lasting contribution to the arts and/or science of television.”

Previous recipients of the Governors Award include GLAAD, the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, Debbie Allen, Greg Berlanti, Tyler Perry, Star Trek, American Idol, William S. Paley, Hallmark Cards Inc., Masterpiece Theatre, Comic Relief and PBS.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting helped create PBS and has funded it, in part, for decades. It does not own PBS, however. Together, they have brought us iconic series like Sesame Street, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, Finding Your Roots, Reading Rainbow, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and other seminal programming, including in the news space.

The 2025 Creative Arts Emmy Awards will be held over two consecutive nights, Saturday, Sept. 6, and Sunday, Sept. 7, at the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE. An edited presentation of the ceremonies will air Saturday, Sept. 13, at 8 p.m. PT on FXX; the program will be available to stream on Hulu through Oct. 7.

The 77th Emmy Awards will telecast live from the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBS, and will be available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount+.

Mariah Carey Will Receive Video Vanguard Award at 2025 MTV VMAs

by jummy84 August 21, 2025
written by jummy84

MTV has named Mariah Carey its 2025 Video Vanguard Award recipient. The seven-time MTV Video Music Award nominee will perform a medley of her biggest hits when the show airs live on CBS from UBS Arena in New York on Sept. 7.

The coveted award will be the first VMA the musician has received in her storied career. Carey is nominated this year in the Best R&B Video category for her action flick-themed video for “Type Dangerous.” It’s her first nomination as a lead artist since she was up for Best Female Video for “Touch My Body” in 2008. Other highlight career moments, including “Shake It Off” and “We Belong Together,” earned nods over the years, but the Moonmen never made their way to her.

The honor comes at a prime time for Carey, who will release her 16th studio album Here for It All on Sept. 26. The record marks her first since 2018’s Caution. Though she has largely kept details about the project under wraps, she did share another preview on her latest single “Sugar Sweet” with Shenseea and Kehlani.

For her Video Vanguard Award performance, Carey has quite a few options. She could dominate the performance on her own, with plenty of solo hits to fill the space, but her collaborative well runs deep, too. There’s Busta Rhymes, Boyz II Men, Latto, Miguel, Jadakiss, Snoop Dogg, Jermaine Dupri, and more who could join her for the set.

Earlier this year, Carey similarly received her first-ever BET Award when she was honored with the BET Ultimate Icon Award. “My life and career have been quite the adventure,” Carey said during her speech. “It took me a while, but I realized life is far too short to live for anyone else’s approval.”

Trending Stories

Both awards follow Carey’s second shutout from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Carey follows recent Video Vanguard Award recipients Katy Perry, Shakira, Nicki Minaj, Missy Elliott, Jennifer Lopez, P!nk, and Rihanna.

Troy Cassar-Daley Saluted With Excellence in the Community Award

by jummy84 August 20, 2025
written by jummy84

Troy Cassar-Daley added to his impressive tally of accolades Tuesday night (Aug. 19) with the Excellence in the Community award, presented at Support Act’s annual Music in the House.

Explore

See latest videos, charts and news

It was cold and wet outside, but there was no shortage of warmth inside The Linseed House, on the Grounds of Alexandria, as rock legend Jimmy Barnes, Goanna frontman Shane Howard, Slim Dusty’s daughter Anne Kirkpatrick and others paid tribute to the veteran singer.

Music in the House was created in 2006 as an opportunity for the music industry charity to recognize an artist, or artists, in Australian music for their musicianship and their broader contribution to the community.

Cassar-Daley was saluted not only for his outstanding, 30-plus year career, but also for his tireless community work, from mentoring emerging talent around the nation, to speaking out on men’s mental health, working in schools, championing Aboriginal culture, and much more.

Kirkpatrick presented Cassar-Daley with the special honor. “It’s not just about the accolades with Troy,” she told the full house. “Troy makes connections. He’s a proud Gumbaynggirr and Bundjalung man, Troy makes connections with music, connections with land and connections to people and communities right across Australia. He’s regularly gone into regional areas before a gig, without fanfare, working with schools and groups,” she added, “encouraging and promoting the power of music and sharing stories.”

As he stepped up to the stage, Cassar-Daley admitted that he “did try to give this award back” and, as many close to him already know, doesn’t “like making speeches.” He mightn’t like delivering them, but when he does, he’s untouchable. The singer and songwriter spoke for 10 minutes, sharing touching memories of his extended family, friends and collaborators, many of whom were in the room.

Cassar-Daley should be used to the spotlight. The Australian country great collected his sixth ARIA Award last year, winning for best country album, recognition for his 12th studio collection Between The Fires, which peaked at No. 2 on the ARIA Chart, a career-best solo chart position.

Across his career, he has collected four CMAA Entertainer of the Year titles, three APRA Song of the Year Awards, nine Deadly Awards, two NIMAs, and an unprecedented 45 Golden Guitars. In 2017, he was named the 50th inductee into the Roll of Renown.

The 2025 Support Act event featured live performances of Cassar-Daley’s songs by his daughter Jem Cassar-Daley, Jimmy and Mahalia Barnes, Busby Marou, and Shane Howard, with Barnes’ son David Campbell as emcee.

Before belting out a rendition of “Shutting Down Our Town”, Jimmy Barnes recalled how he was “absolutely terrified” on his first experience sharing the stage with Cassar-Daley. “I’d never heard anybody with a voice that was so soulful. I fancied myself as a soul singer, until I sang with Troy. Everything he sings, it makes me want to cry. It’s just beautiful.”

Jem chose the deep cut “Brighter Day,” a “song I hold very close to me,” she remarked. “Every time I hear the opening guitar riff I get goosebumps and I’m taken right back to being a kid again. Dad’s storytelling is real, raw and vivid. It’s moved and inspired me from a very young age, so performing my own version of this song means the absolute world to me.”

Guests watching on included Cold Chisel guitarist and singer Ian Moss; federal Minister for the Arts Tony Burke; NSW Special Minister of State, Minister for Transport, Minister for the Arts, Minister for Music and the Night-time Economy John Graham; and Jenny McAllister, the ALP senator for the state of New South Wales and the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Earlier, Support Act CEO Clive Miller posthumously awarded Excellence In Community honors to veteran music publisher, artist and Support Act spearhead John Bromell, and to the beloved artist manager, tech production manager and industry allrounder Dominic “Mick” Mazzone.

Previous recipients of the Excellence in the Community salute include Midnight Oil, Tina Arena, the late Archie Roach, Jenny Morris, Paul Kelly, Marcia Hines and last year’s winners Powderfinger.

All proceeds from the event, which included a raffle, a live auction and online auction, help fund Support Act’s crisis relief and mental health programs for music workers in need.
