October 11 is Amitabh Bachchan’s 83rd birthday, and fans all over the world are marking the day with over-bearing love and devotion. A giant figure in Indian film, Bachchan still charms fans with his brilliance, perseverance, and outstanding versatility despite over five decades of work in the film industry.

As the morning sun rose over the city of Mumbai, the space in front of his legendary Juhu abode, Jalsa, became a celebratory area. Famous for welcoming fans every Sunday, the gates of Jalsa witnessed an even bigger turnout this time, with fans flocking to celebrate their icon’s anniversary. In social media videos, his fans were spotted wearing costumes of Bachchan’s signature characters from his character in the 1983 film Coolie, sporting a white beard and red uniform, to the mythic vigilante look of Shahenshah (1988).

Posters of his hit movies lined the streets, as raucous cheers and sounds characterized by music characterized the environment as carnival-like. In one video, fans were seen dancing with excitement at dawn, mirroring the passion the superstar shares with the fans and their love for him. For others, this was not just a birthday it was a celebration of an era defined by his movie legacy.

Amitabh Bachchan’s career graph in films is nothing less than sensational. From his early low-key entry in Saat Hindustani (1969) playing a freedom fighter to his current modern role in Kalki 2898 AD (2024), he has effortlessly kept pace with the times without diluting his charismatic screen presence. Famous for his rich, sonorous baritone and brooding style of acting, he has played diverse types of characters ranging from action heroes and romantic heroes to troubled anti-heroes and wise men.

Over the past few years, Bachchan has also continued to stay contemporary in films and television. He was recently in Vettaiyan, which also stars Rajinikanth, Fahadh Faasil, and others, releasing in October 2024. Next in line is Section 84, a courtroom drama by Ribhu Dasgupta, in which he stars with Diana Penty and Nimrat Kaur. He will also lend his signature voice as the narrator in 120 Bahadur, starring Farhan Akhtar.

Today, Big B is hosting the 17th season of popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati, a job he has made synonymous with wisdom and elegance.

Amitabh Bachchan Trolls Pakistan, Mammootty, Anupam Kher & Others Cheer for India After Asia Cup Win

by jummy84 September 29, 2025
written by jummy84

India won its 9th Asia Cup in a thrilling final last night, defeating Pakistan in Dubai. However, after the match, India refused to accept the trophy or medals from ACC President and Pakistan’s PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi, citing tensions between the two countries, especially after the Pahalgam terror attack earlier this year. Several Indian celebrities took to social media to celebrate India’s win and congratulate the team. Some also trolled the Pakistan team.

Actor Anil Kapoor wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “India Zindabad.” Superstar Mammootty shared a picture and expressed, “Team India didn’t just win the Asia Cup, they owned it. Champions without a single defeat. Absolutely magnificent!”

Anupam Kher added, “Bharat Mata ki jay! Kya baat hai (Wow)! What a game! Oh my God. Jeetenge bhai jeetenge. Bharat Mata ki jay (We will win. Hail India)! Vande Mataram. Khush ho gaya dil. Kya bolun main (I’m so happy. What do I say?). Superb. Proud of my country, proud of this cricket team. Fantastic, very well played. God bless them.”

Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan took this opportunity to troll former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Akhtar. For some context, Akhtar recently made a slip of the tongue and referred to Indian cricketer Abhishek Sharma as Abhishek Bachchan. He said in an interview, “If Pakistan manage to get Abhishek Bachchan out in a hypothetical situation, what happens to India’s middle order?” before he was quickly corrected by the host. Reacting to this, Abhishek had tweeted, “Sir, with all due respect… don’t think they’ll even manage that! And I’m not even good at playing cricket.”

Big B referred to this while trolling the Pakistan team after their defeat. He wrote, “Jeet Gaye! Several other celebrities, such as Sidharth Malhotra, Ali Fazal, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ranveer Singh, Angad Bedi, Preity Zinta, Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, among others, cheered for India. Take a look at their reactions:

The Ba***ds of Bollywood actor Raghav Juyal, who was in Dubai, told ANI, “Bohot acha laga aaj. Aur main apne bacchon ko bataunga ki main ye legendary match dekhne aaya tha. Bilkul kamaal ho gaya (It felt so good today. I will even tell my children that I came to watch this legendary match. Absolutely amazing).”

Superstar Amitabh Bachchan has created a legacy that cannot be summed up in words. Apart from his professional accomplishments, the Bachchan family is also regarded as one of India’s most sought-after and regal Bollywood families. Over the years, despite their impeccable reputation, once in a while, news and reports erupt of something that happened in the past involving the Bachchans that gets the fans curious. One such incident is that Amitabh Bachchan had once promised to build a college in Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s name. The construction had even begun on the property, but was reportedly abandoned later.

The movie star has captivated audiences with his acting skills for nearly sixty years. Amitabh Bachchan is still going strong in his 80s and making a lasting impression on the silver screen.

Amitabh Bachchan married Jaya Bachchan, a stunning Bengali woman, in 1973. Their two children, Shweta and Abhishek Bachchan, are their blessings. Abhishek married actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, while Shweta is married to businessman Nikhil Nanda. Jaya and Amitabh are the proud grandparents of Navya Naveli Nanda, Agastya Nanda, and Aaradhya Bachchan.

What Happened To Amitabh Bachchan’s Promised College?

When Amitabh Bachchan visited the village Daulatpur in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, in 2008, he laid the cornerstone for a degree college named after his newlywed daughter-in-law, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. He was joined by Abhishek Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, and Aishwarya. Additionally, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Amar Singh, the leaders of the Samajwadi Party, were also present at the function at that time.

The college’s name was changed to Aishwarya Bachchan Girls’ Inter College for upper-secondary students in 2012. Big B sent a cheque for Rs. 5 lakhs to ABSS so that the building could be constructed. It has been reported that Amitabh Bachchan assigned the Nishtha Foundation, led by Jaya Bachchan, with the task of constructing the college. Reports on the internet claim that the Nishtha Foundation allegedly did not construct the college and later blamed Amitabh Bachchan’s Seva Sansthan. For over ten years, the villagers patiently awaited the construction of the college. But allegedly, no construction ever took place. While the reports went viral, there has been no written proof of what happened or any recount of the event by anyone in the latest.

After waiting unsuccessfully for the project to begin, the father of a village teacher donated more than 10,000 square meters of land for the college’s construction. Following Big B’s foundation’s decision to halt college work, the residents of Daulatpur raised the necessary funds. And built a college near the Amitabh Bachchan college plot. Why Big B gave up on the project is still unknown, and reports don’t delve into the specifics. So, the reason for this will remain unanswered.

Smita Patil Broke Down After Shooting Aaj Rapat Jaayein

Smita Patil Shot ‘Aaj Rapat Jaayein’ & Cried Her Heart Out Till Amitabh Bachchan Stepped In To Coax Her

by jummy84 September 16, 2025

Smita Patil In A Still From Namak Halal (Photo Credit – Youtube)

Smita Patil is one of the most iconic actresses Indian Cinema witnessed. However her journey was short lived since the actress passed away 15 days after giving birth to son Prateik Babbar and her husband Raj Babbar, moved back with his first wife and children Juhi Babbar and Aarya Babbar after Smita‘s death.

Smita’s body of work includes many award-winning films like Manthan and Arth. But apart from these heavy, content-driven films that were called the ‘artsy types,’ she was a part of commercial hits like Namak Halal and others.

Smita Patil was paired with Amitabh Bachchan in Namak Halal. The film became iconic for its song Pag Ghunghroo Baandh Meera Naachi Thi  – a must at Indian weddings. However, today, we will talk about what happened after shooting for the other iconic song from the film.

Why Smita Patil Broke Down After Filming Namak Halal’s Iconic Song

When we talk about the most iconic rain songs of Hindi Cinema, Aaj Rapat Jaaye probably undoubtedly tops the list. The song from Namak Halal had Amitabh Bachchan and the queen of parallel cinema dancing their heart out on the streets of Mumbai, drenched in rain. However, what happened after the shoot was surprising.

After Smita Patil completed shooting for the song, she locked her room and cried her lungs out. The reason for her meltdown was an attempt at commercial cinema, and suddenly, she was worried about her serious image that brought her weight as a star. Smita had never attempted such an eye-grabbing dance before, and she was unsure if commercial cinema would work for her like parallel films did.

Later, co-star and great friend Amitabh Bachchan stepped in and coaxed the actress to shed her inhibitions. Some reports suggest that the actor even cajoled her to broaden her perspective and balance the best of both worlds.

Namak Halal eventually was a huge hit at the box office, and Smita Patil’s dance in Aaj Rapat Jaayein with Amitabh Bachchan is sealed in history!

‘Amitabh Bachchan Was Insecure Of Kamal Haasan Taking All The Limelight’

Kalki 2898 AD made waves when it was released in 2024. The Nag Ashwin-directed sci-fi film mostly earned accolades for two characters who acted as the strong walls of this fort. No, not Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, but Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan.

While Big B plays Ashwatthama, the cursed warrior from Mahabharata, Ulaganayagan plays Yaskin, ruler of the complex in 2898 AD, the antagonist of the film. The two veterans, take the film to another level.

While the duo have earned immense praise for their performances in Kalki 2898 AD, there was once a time when Amitabh Bachchan reportedly felt threatened by Kamal Haasan’s acting prowess and popularity, so much so that he went to the extent of shelving a film where he felt Haasan would overshadow him!

What Happened Between Amitabh Bachchan & Kamal Haasan?

This tale goes back to the time of 80s when Big B was at his peak in Indian Cinema while Kamal Haasan was growing with every film he starred in. They came together for a film that was titled Khabardar, and was being directed by T Rama Rao. The film was a social drama between a terminally ill patient and a doctor, where Big B played the doctor. It also starred Jaya Prada and Sridevi in the lead.

However, after major portions of the film were shot, it was shelved abruptly. In an interview, Kamal Haasan in the late 90s revealed that the film was stopped midway, and he was given half remuneration as well. Much later, in another interview, director K Bhagyaraj revealed what happened to Khabardar and that it had something to do with Amitabh Bachchan.

In an interview quoted by TOI, the director revealed, “According to the script, Kamal Haasan has to die, and only then would it be apt for the story. But then Kamal Haasan will have all the names from the film, and Amitabh’s character will not stand in people’s minds much. This didn’t sit well with Amitabh, and he said he couldn’t do the film and didn’t want to spoil the name he had made over the years for one film. He then offered bulk dates to the producers of Khabardar as compensation.”

Khabardar never got made, but the two actors came together for a film titled Geraftar in 1985.

What Next For Amitabh Bachchan?

Big B’s last big screen role was in Rajinikanth-led Vettaiyan, where he played Dr. Sathyadev Bramhadutt Pande. He is reported to appear next in a voiceover role, playing Jatayu, in the highly-anticipated Ramayana: Part 1. The superstar also continues hosting Kaun Banega Crorepati on Sony.

What Next For Kamal Haasan?

Haasan recently appeared in the Mani Ratnam-directed movie Thug Life, which unfortunately turned out to be a disappointment. According to TOI, he is reportedly teaming up with Veera Dheeran Sooran director SU Arun Kumar for his next project.

Big B, aka Amitabh Bachchan, who is immensely loved by the audience and they shower love on him, has donated Rs 11 lakh to Mumbai’s most famous Ganpati pandal, Lalbaugcha Raja. However, the actor was not present there during this time. He had delivered the cheque through his team. Now, a video of his secretary, Sudhir Salvi, has surfaced on social media in which he is seen posing for the paparazzi while holding the cheque.

Now people are reacting to this and giving mixed reactions to Amitabh Bachchan donating to the pandal. Some have praised his move. And some have advised him to help the flood victims of Punjab. In the video that surfaced on the internet, Amitabh Bachchan’s secretary is handing over the cheque to a priest of the pandal, but before that, both of them posed for the paps.

After this, Sudhir Salvi leaves from there after handing it over. Now the trustees of Lalbaugcha Raja have confirmed this donation. They said that a cheque of Rs 11 lakh signed by Amitabh Bachchan has been received. On Amitabh Bachchan giving the cheque, a user said, ‘Bachchan sahab, please adopt 500 flood-affected families. That will be better.’ One wrote, ‘There is no use in donating here. This will not help any poor person.’

Amitabh Bachchan

One user wrote, ‘Donate this money where it is needed the most. Wherever there have been so many floods, there is the most need there. God has everything.’ One wrote, ‘Give it for the help of Punjab too. Nothing will happen by helping God. Help humans.’ One wrote, ‘If you did it for Punjab, I would have been happier.’ One wrote, ‘Amitabh ji, you showed your pride by giving 11 lakhs. What would have happened if you had given this money to the flood-affected people? Your pride would have diminished. Big people with small thinking.’

Not every film that receives lukewarm or even hostile reception fades into obscurity. Some films, initially considered flops, find a second life through television reruns, streaming platforms, or sheer word of mouth, eventually achieving cult status. Here are seven such Bollywood films that overcame their initial failures to become timeless classics.

1. Andaz Apna Apna (1994)

  • IMDb Rating: 8/10
  • Director: Rajkumar Santoshi
  • Streaming On: Prime Video

Plot: Amar and Prem, two dim-witted friends with big dreams, aspire to marry a rich heiress, Raveena Bajaj, to solve their financial troubles. Their bumbling antics lead to a series of comedic misadventures, rivalries, and a showdown with a notorious criminal.

Initial Reception: When it released, Andaz Apna Apna faced stiff competition from other films and struggled at the box office. The comedy, ahead of its time, was not immediately appreciated by the audience.

Cult Status: Over the years, the film’s witty dialogues, quirky characters, and hilarious scenarios have earned it a massive following. It is now considered one of the greatest comedies in Indian cinema, with fans still quoting its iconic lines like “Teja main hoon, mark idhar hai.”

2. Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983)

  • IMDb Rating: 8.3/10
  • Director: Kundan Shah
  • Streaming On: Jio Hotstar

Plot: Two bumbling photographers inadvertently capture a murder on camera and find themselves embroiled in a web of corruption and deceit involving powerful politicians and businessmen.

Initial Reception: Despite being a satire on the rampant corruption in India, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro did not perform well at the box office. The dark humor and complex narrative were not immediately embraced by the audience.

Cult Status: Over time, its sharp social commentary, memorable characters, and iconic scenes, like the Mahabharata play, have turned it into a cult classic. It is now celebrated as one of the best satirical films in Indian cinema.

3. Pyaasa (1957)

  • IMDb Rating: 8.3/10
  • Director: Guru Dutt
  • Streaming On: Prime Video

Plot: The film tells the story of Vijay, a struggling poet who is disillusioned with the materialistic world. His work is only appreciated after his supposed death, revealing the hypocrisy of society.

Initial Reception: Upon its release, Pyaasa received a lukewarm response. Its melancholic tone and unconventional narrative did not resonate with the audience at the time.

Cult Status: Today, Pyaasa is hailed as a masterpiece. Its poignant lyrics, soulful music, and profound exploration of themes like love, ambition, and societal hypocrisy have garnered critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base worldwide.

4. Agneepath (1990)

  • IMDb Rating: 7.6/10
  • Director: Mukul S. Anand
  • Streaming On: Prime Video & Netflix

Plot: The film follows Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, a man seeking revenge against the gangster who killed his father. His journey is marked by violence and moral dilemmas.

Initial Reception: Agneepath was not a commercial success upon release. Amitabh Bachchan’s deep voice and the film’s gritty tone were not well-received by the audience.

Cult Status: Despite its initial failure, Agneepath’s powerful performances, particularly by Amitabh Bachchan and Danny Denzongpa, and its gripping storyline have earned it a cult following. The film is now considered a classic, and its dialogues are still popular.

5. Silsila (1981)

  • IMDb Rating: 7.2/10
  • Director: Yash Chopra
  • Streaming On: Prime Video

Plot: A tale of love and infidelity, Silsila explores the complex relationships between Amit, Shobha, and Chandni, set against the backdrop of societal expectations and personal desires.

Initial Reception: Silsila was a commercial disappointment. The real-life rumors of the lead actors’ romantic involvement overshadowed the film, affecting its box office performance.

Cult Status: Over the years, the film’s nuanced portrayal of love and relationships, coupled with its melodious music, has endeared it to audiences. It is now regarded as one of Yash Chopra’s finest works, capturing the essence of romantic turmoil.

6. Lamhe (1991)

  • IMDb Rating: 7.2/10
  • Director: Yash Chopra
  • Streaming On: Prime Video

Plot: The film narrates the story of Viren, who falls in love with Pallavi, only to later develop feelings for her daughter, Pooja, creating a complex web of emotions and societal challenges.

Initial Reception: Lamhe faced backlash for its unconventional plot and bold theme of an older man falling in love with a much younger woman. It failed to impress at the box office.

Cult Status: Despite its initial failure, Lamhe’s touching performances, beautiful cinematography, and memorable songs have earned it a special place in Bollywood history. It is now celebrated for its progressive narrative and emotional depth.

7. Swades (2004)

  • IMDb Rating: 8.2/10
  • Director: Ashutosh Gowariker
  • Streaming On: Netflix

Plot: In this film, an NRI working at NASA returns to India to find his nanny. His journey of self-discovery leads him to embrace his roots and work towards the betterment of a rural village.

Initial Reception: Swades did not perform as expected at the box office. Its slow pace and lack of commercial elements did not appeal to the mass audience initially.

Cult Status: Swades is now considered a gem, celebrated for its heartfelt narrative and Shah Rukh Khan’s powerful performance. Its themes of patriotism, social responsibility, and rural empowerment resonate deeply with viewers, making it a beloved classic.

These films remind us that box office numbers aren’t the only measure of a movie’s success. Sometimes, it takes years for the true value of a film to be recognized. As audiences evolve, so do their tastes and perceptions, allowing once-overlooked movies to shine. These seven films have not only become cult classics but also serve as a testament to the timeless nature of compelling storytelling and strong performances in Bollywood.
