Dharmendra & Amitabh Bachchan Held The Longest Box Office Record Of Cinema! (Photo Credit –YouTube)

Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra are the epitome of bromance when it comes to heroes playing best friends on screen. Sholay is one of the most iconic films of Indian Cinema, which again gave us Jai and Veeru. When Dharam Paaji and Bachchan Saab broke records lip-synching Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge (crooned by Manna Dey and Kishore Kumar). Fans were heartbroken when they saw Big B attending his on-screen best friend’s last rites today.

As the He-Man of Bollywood passed away at 89, he has given us countless reasons and films to remember him. One such iconic film would be Sholay indeed. Jai and Veeru’s jodi is not only the most loved on-screen pair, but it also holds the longest record at the box office for Indian Cinema. Scroll to read this unique record!

Jai & Veeru’s 19-Year Box Office Record!

Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra held the longest box office record with Sholay, which was released in 1975. The film, helmed by Ramesh Sippy, earned a net collection of 15 crore in India! After that, no Indian film could touch this mark at the box office till 1994! It was in 1994 that Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit’s Hum Aapke Hain Koun earned 72 crore in its lifetime, breaking Sholay’s record of being the highest-grossing Indian film from 1975 to 1994! Yes, 19 long years!

Dharmendra Suggested Amitabh Bachchan’s Name!

However, what if we tell you that it was he who insisted that director Ramesh Sippy cast Amitabh Bachchan in the film? Yes, for the unversed, Sholay‘s Jai was to be played by Shatrughan Sinha; however, in a classic twist of tale, it was Amitabh Bachchan who landed the role on Dharmendra’s suggestions. In one of the interviews, earlier this year, the Pippa actor finally revealed the story behind Amitabh Bachchan’s casting for the film, where Dharam Ji was originally offered Gabbar Singh and Thakur both!

Ye Naya Ladka…Accha Kaam Karega!

In June 2025, during a conversation with ANI, Dharam Ji said, “It has already been mentioned. Yes, I recommended him. Mai to kehta nahi Maine role dilaya. Ye mujhe milne aate the Amitabh Sahab. He used to sit next to me. To Maine Ramesh Sippy ji ko kaha yeh naya ladka hai, usko awaaz se to lagta hai bahut acha kaam karega.unki jo andar se chah thi…jo khud se pyar karne ki khoobsurati thi vo achi lagi..maine kaha inko lelo.”

Manoj Bajpayee Recounts How Amitabh Bachchan Nearly Gave Him Heart Attack At 85 Feet

by jummy84 November 17, 2025
written by jummy84

In a surprising confession on Kaun Banega Crorepati 17, actor Manoj Bajpayee revealed that Amitabh Bachchan once gave him a serious scare, “killed me,” in his words, while filming a stunt nearly 85 feet high. The anecdote has since sparked curiosity, laughter, and admiration for the veteran’s playful yet intense energy.

During the show, Manoj described how the stunt was supposed to be straightforward: they would be harnessed and suspended mid-air, replicating a fall. Because of his fear of heights, Manoj was already tense. The action director tried to calm him: “Close your eyes, I’ll be there, Amit ji will be holding your hand,” he recalled being told.

But once he reached around 80-85 feet, things took a turn. According to Manoj, Bachchan suddenly called out to him in a low voice: “Manoj, kuch ho jaye toh Jaya ko bol dena” — telling him to inform his wife Jaya Bachchan if anything went wrong. Hearing that, Manoj said he panicked even more. “I was already very scared,” he told Big B, according to the promo. “Aur phir aapne kaha, ‘Sach mein ghar pe mere khabar kar dena’.”

The tension in the moment was not just physical: Manoj joked that the whole sequence felt like a “planned mission” to terrify him. “The whole thing was planned — to take me up there, to prank me,” he said.

Bajpayee didn’t sugarcoat how intense the moment was. “Inhone meri jaan le li thi,” he said — “he took my life.” His raw honesty and humor won laughs from fellow guests Jaideep Ahlawat and Sharib Hashmi, but the underlying sentiment was serious.

The story is evocative of a deeper bond between the two actors, one that goes beyond admiration. For a man like Manoj, known for his grounded screen presence and credibility, this tale of physical fear and emotional vulnerability offers a rare, vulnerable glimpse into his dynamic with Big B — the superstar he respects deeply.

It is also a tribute to Bachchan’s larger-than-life persona, and his own penchant for playful theatrics. The prank was not malicious; it was, in Manoj’s recollection, a moment of powerful jest — and perhaps a reflection of the trust between them.

As the KBC episode rolls out, the story is resonating with audiences for its blend of warmth, shock, and nostalgia. Viewers are reminded that even the biggest stars among us have layers — and sometimes, a joke from Amitabh can rattle you in ways you didn’t expect.

by jummy84 November 16, 2025
written by jummy84

Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan penned a moving note for late actress Kamini Kaushal after she passed away on November 14 at the age of 98. For the uninitiated, Big B’s bond with Kaushal traces back to the pre-partition Punjab as the late actress’ family was close to Bachchan’s mother, Teji Bachchan’s family.

He shared an emotional tribute on his blog and wrote, “… and another loss .. a dear family friend of the days of yore .. when there was no partition .. Kamini Kaushal ji .. legendary artist, an icon, who contributed immensely to our Industry and who remained, with us till the very last .. her family and Maa ji’s families were very dear friends in erstwhile pre partition Punjab ..”

His note continued, “Kamini ji’s elder sister was a very close friend of Maaji .. they were classmates, and a most joyous bunch of like minded friends .. the elder sister passed away regretfully in an accident, and as per the tradition of the times, in such an unfortunate situation, the sister of the deceased was married to the bereaved husband, her brother-in law ..”

Praising her for her talent and warmth, the actor added, “A most pleasant warm affectionate and talented artist, has left us .. at the age of 98 .. an era of great remembrance gone .. not just for the film fraternity, but as a member of the friends fraternity .. One by one they all are leaving us .. a most sad moment, filled only now with condolence and prayer .. .. her legendary performances of those early days, now just memories ..”

kamini kaushal
Kamini Kaushal was considered as one of the finest actresses of Hindi cinema. She made her debut in 1946 with the film Neecha Nagar, for which she won the 1946 Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

The actress played the lead actress in films such as Do Bhai (1947), Nadiya Ke Paar (1948), Shabnam (1949), Paras (1949) and Namoona (1949) among others. When Amitabh Bachchan Gracefully Accepted Decline In His Stardom After A Young Girl Slapped A Guy & Said “Woh Nahin… Govinda Ka Autograph Lo”

Amitabh Bachchan Accepted His Stardom Gracefully Shifting To Younger Stars As A Fan Slapped A Boy For Taking Big B’s Autograph & Wanted Govinda’s Sign (Picture Credit: Wikipedia)

Stardom has a definite era. For some stars, it lasts a few years, while for others, it lasts decades. However, superstars have a legacy that spans several decades, and one such superstar is Amitabh Bachchan. He shot to fame overnight as the Angry Young Man and ruled the celluloid for decades. But then saw a decline only to rise like a phoenix with Mohabbatein.

However, when Big B was witnessing his decline as a superstar, he saw another superstar rising, and it was none other than Govinda. The two stars were shooting for Hum when a certain incident happened, speaking volumes about the stardom the Raja Babu actor had attained amongst fans.

In an interview, Amitabh Bachchan recalled an incident when he saw his decline and Govinda’s rise simultaneously, just with the reactions of fans who gaga over the Hero No.1 star. Scroll down to read what happened.

In an interview with Movie Magazine, Big B narrated the incident, which might seem funny but would not have been a good sight for any star. He said, “I was shooting with Govinda for Hum when a group of young kids came up to me, and one of the boys asked for an autograph. Govinda was standing next to me. There was a young, cute girl who gave him a slap and said, ‘Woh nahin, yeh. Govinda ka autograph lo‘ (Not him. Take Govinda’s autograph).”

However, the Shehenshaah gracefully accepted his decline and his stardom getting blurry as he said, “People will want to watch the younger lot.” “I made mistakes and kept trying to rectify them in film after film. But there’s no denying that it is the turn of the younger boys now because today’s audiences are between 18 and 30.”

Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda starred together in Hum and then later reunited for Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. While Bachchan saw a decline in his stardom in the 90s, Chi Chi saw a rise with David Dhawan films, especially his number 1 series. Big B later rose to fame in his second innings with Mohabbatein.

National Award-winning singer and composer Shankar Mahadevan, known for his soulful voice and timeless compositions, recently shared a delightful behind-the-scenes story about one of his most iconic songs, Kajra Re from Bunty Aur Babli. In a candid conversation Shankar recalled how Amitabh Bachchan once jokingly warned him not to touch his parts in the song, else he would end his career. Reminiscing about his experiences with the legendary actor, Shankar Mahadevan revealed that Amitabh Bachchan has always been deeply appreciative of his work.

Shankar Mahadev Recalled Amitabh Bachchan Incident

He recalled a special moment on the sets of Rock and Roll, where Big B expressed his admiration for the song. “I remember Bachchan sir, he was shooting *Rock and Roll*, and we went to the set. He actually lifted me up with all my weight because he was so happy with the song. He hugged me and said, ‘What a song you’ve made!’ He’s so sweet and humble”, Shankar shared with a smile.

Shankar then shared a humorous memory from the making of Kajra Re, one of Bollywood’s most loved songs. The song, composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and written by Gulzar, featured Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Abhishek Bachchan. Its mix of qawwali and kajri folk styles, combined with Vaibhavi Merchant’s choreography, turned it into a timeless classic.

Recalling the recording process, Shankar said, “It was a unique experience. I had dubbed a rough version of Kajra Re for Amitabh Bachchan so he could come and record his voice later because Javed Ali had sung for Abhishek, and I had done his parts.” He continued, “When I met Bachchan sir at an event, I said, ‘Sir, please come and dub your parts. We have to mix the song.’ He asked which song, and I told him, ‘Kajra Re.’”

The advertisement begins with Amitabh Bachchan and Janhvi performing a pooja, after which Big B surprises his granddaughter with a special gift—a beautiful jewellery set that brings a radiant smile to Janhvi’s face. This is followed by Kriti Sanon receiving a jewellery set from a figure who appears to be her brother or husband. The ad concludes with a heartwarming bonding moment between grandfather and granddaughter.

Kalyani Priyadarshan is seen trying to reach a gift box on the top shelf of an almirah. Unable to reach it, she is assisted by her grandfather, Amitabh, only to discover that the gift she was trying to retrieve was actually for him. A delighted Big B then wears the necklace, symbolising the love and traditions shared across generations. The caption on the advertisement reads: “This Diwali, celebrate traditions that endure far beyond a single season. Explore jewellery crafted to be treasured for generations!”

Amitabh, Kalyani, Janhvi, and Kriti: what’s next

Amitabh Bachchan is currently busy hosting Kaun Banega Crorepati 17 and will next be seen in Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD sequel, which is set to go on floors in December this year. The film will also star Prabhas and Kamal Haasan in lead roles.

Kalyani Priyadarshan is enjoying the success of her recent release Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra. She will next appear in the Tamil film Genie, directed by Bhuvanesh Arjunan, alongside Wamiqa Gabbi and Ravi Mohan.

Janhvi Kapoor was most recently seen in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, alongside Varun Dhawan, Rohit Saraf, and Sanya Malhotra; however, the film underperformed at the box office. She will next star in Buchi Babu Sana’s sports-action drama Peddi, alongside Ram Charan and Shiva Rajkumar, scheduled for release in 2026.

Kriti Sanon is awaiting the release of her upcoming film Tere Ishq Mein, directed by Anand L. Rai, which also stars Dhanush and is set to release in November this year.

Other fans chimed in with their own takes and said, “Labbu’s meeting with Jayaji. Epic battle”.
