Following reports over the summer that his SiriusXM program would be canceled at the end of his contract in 2025, Howard Stern addressed the speculation head-on with a spectacular troll job on Monday. In his first episode back from summer break, Stern pranked the media by handing the mic to his friend Andy Cohen, who pretended that Stern had parted ways with SiriusXM and taken over the show.
“I know you’re expecting a big announcement from Howard, and this is not how things were meant to go,” Cohen said. This was supposed to be a cleaner hand off — I’m kind of winging it.” Within minutes, The Associated Press and other media outlets ran headlines about Cohen replacing Stern.
Eventually, the prank was revealed, as Stern took over the mic to finally address his future. “Everything you’ve been reading about me in the paper… is completely false,” Stern began. “I was just getting so fucking annoyed with everyone writing me, asking me if I was okay because I’d been fired.”

Stern proceeded to recap recent events, noting how the media reported he had been fired “for being too woke. Stern scoffed, “I still don’t even know what that means. “If I’m woke, okay who gives a fuck? … Sirius employs a lot of woke people and a lot of right-wingers, too.”
“Then all of a sudden, I’m sitting home and everybody I know in my world, even peripherally, is writing me. ‘Are you okay, are you okay?’ ” he continued. “None of it is true, zero truth.”
“What pisses me off is now I can’t leave. I’ve been thinking about retiring, now I can’t.”
While Stern did not elaborate on whether he has reached a new contract extension with SiriusXM, he said he is “very happy” at the company and praised its CEO, Jennifer Witz.
