Exclusive| Me Before You and Lazarus actor Sam Claflin on his global fandom: I don’t want to harbour…

by jummy84 October 22, 2025
written by jummy84

Sam Claflin became a globally renowned name with films like Pirates Of The Carribean: On Stranger Tides (2011), Me Before You (2016) and The Hunger Games series. As he gears up for the release of his mystery thriller series Lazarus, the British actor talks about the impact of this global fandom.

Sam Claflin

“I don’t think about it too much because that puts more pressure on things. I have a tendency to put everything into the world that’s in front of me on my mind. I feel lucky that there are people that watch the things that I’ve done. I try my best to sort of honour them as much as myself, but I feel the best way of honouring them is by honouring myself,” he says, adding, “I don’t want to harbour the responsibility of making other people happy anymore, but equally, I’m so grateful for everyone who’s got me to where I am and supported me through some really rough years. The better years are yet to come and I feel really lucky to be in this position.”

Watch the full video interview with Sam Claflin here:

Sharing his experience of working with legends like actor Bill Nighy and author-creator Harlan Coben, Sam Claflin calls it a “dream come true”. He adds, “I’ve been fortunate enough to have actually worked with Bill before, but we didn’t have many scenes together. So, having the opportunity to really go head-to-head with him during filming this was like a gift for an actor. He’s a very generous, giving and also a challenging actor to work with in a way that he just pushes you. He really forced me to be professional. As for Harlan, he is obviously an incredibly gifted writer. I’ve been a huge fan of the books and the adaptations that he has previously done. So it was a real no-brainer for me to get involved with this.”

His character Joel Lazarus goes through some intense situations in the series, and Sam admits that it did take a toll on him: “I had my own mini breakdown after filming. Without realizing it, the weight of the mental strain of playing Joe Lazarus, I did sort of carry over into my own life. I was just physically, emotionally and mentally tortured through the process of filming, but not in a bad way. I was also coming off the back of shooting something else, which again was very demanding. So, I put everything into it, everything that I had left in the tank anyway. It was an incredibly demanding and challenging role, but one that I was so eager to do and to do well. I was fortunately blessed with an incredible support network of great actors, filmmakers, and producers. I felt looked after but it definitely broke me in a great way.”

Glad about the love he receives from his Indian fans, Sam shares he hopes to visit the country soon. “I’ve never been to India and it’s on my list of places I’ve always been desperate to go. As an actor, I’ve been so blessed and fortunate to visit a few different places. And my hope is that India is going to be on that list one day and that there’s a project that will take me out there. But if not, I definitely have to go because I even have a friend who lives in Goa. So it’s on the list,” he ends.

Sholay, Bawarchi Actor Asrani Passes Away at 84

by jummy84 October 20, 2025
written by jummy84

Veteran actor Govardhan Asrani, popularly known as Asrani, has passed away at the age of 84. His nephew confirmed the news. The actor breathed his last at around 4 PM on October 20 after suffering from a prolonged illness.

India Today quoted the late actor’s PA, Babubhai, as saying, “Asrani sahab was admitted to Bharatiya Arogya Nidhi Hospital in Juhu four days ago. From what the doctors told us, there was fluid (water) accumulation in his lungs. He passed away today, October 20, around 3.30 pm. The last rites have already been completed.”

He further revealed that Asrani had told his wife Manju not to make his death into an event, and it was the family’s wish to hold the funeral swiftly. “This is why the family only spoke about his passing away after the funeral was conducted,” he continued. A prayer meeting is likely to be planned.

Asrani

Asrani had a career spanning over five decades, in which he had been a part of 350 films. He was best known for his comic roles, especially for playing the role of the jailer in Sholay. Asrani made his debut in 1967 with the film Hare Kaanch Ki Choodiyan. In the same year, he also featured in a Gujarati film. Asrani kept working in Gujarati films for the next couple of years, following which, his advisor Hrishikesh Mukherjee gave him the role of a supporting actor in Satyakam (1969).

Asrani
He went on to play a lot of comic characters and supporting roles in Hindi films such as Bawarchi, Do Ladke Dono Kadke, Bandish, Namak Haraam, Ghar Parivar, Roti, Chupke Chupke, Sholay, Balika Badhu, Fakira, Anurodh, Chhailla Babu, Charas, Heeralal Pannalal, Pati Patni Aur Woh and Hamare Tumhare, among others. Asrani was also one of Rajesh Khanna’s close friends.

The actor married actress Manju Bansal, with whom he worked in films such as Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar and Namak Haram. After their marriage, they acted in more films such as Tapasya, Chandi Sona, Jaan-E-Bahaar, and Jurmana, among many others.

Asrani was last seen in the 2023 film Non Stop Dhamaal.

Shirt Salesman Is First-Time Actor

by jummy84 October 20, 2025
written by jummy84

SPOILER ALERT: The following article discusses plot details from Season 1, Episode 2 of “The Chair Company,” now streaming on HBO Max.

It’s not easy to upstage Tim Robinson. The comedian’s signature character is a man whose social unease leads him to act out in big, loud, obnoxious ways — like the hot dog guy from the sketch series “I Think You Should Leave,” or Marvel enthusiast Craig Waterman in the film “Friendship.” Ron Trosper, the protagonist of Robinson’s HBO conspiracy comedy “The Chair Company,” is no exception to this rule. But in Ron’s quest to find out what’s going on with Tecca, the namesake manufacturer of a faulty chair that leads the mall developer to take an embarrassing tumble in front of his colleagues, he encounters many characters who more than match his eccentricities. People like a certain shirt salesman who pitches Ron on his membership program.

In the second episode of “The Chair Company,” Ron visits the menswear shop Tamblay’s in an attempt to identify his assailant from the series premiere, who warned Ron to stop looking into Tecca before running off and leaving an article of clothing behind as a clue. The Tamblay’s proprietor agrees to help him out, confirming the shirt is one of theirs. The owner even models the item’s wear and tear using a ball he happens to have on hand: “It’s like a big belly and someone’s belly is pushin’ up into the buttons,” the man explains. “He’s about at his limit. I happen to know a guy who’s at his limit.” The emphases, cadence and delivery of this seemingly mundane dialogue combine to make the viewer sit up and ask themselves: Who is that?

The actor, it turns out, didn’t have to do much to get into character. Jared Lindner is the real-life co-proprietor of Suit Man, a small business located in the Westchester County suburb of Mount Vernon, New York. Lindner’s father founded the store nearly two decades ago, and the two still run Suit Man as a family operation. (You can learn more about the store in this video on the small city’s official YouTube channel.) Robinson himself took notice of Lindner when he swung by the store to scout the location. Lindner didn’t recognize the “Saturday Night Live” alum, but struck up a rapport with the crew: “They started to chuckle, because I’m a pretty easygoing, somewhat young guy,” Lindner tells Variety. The next thing he knew, the production was calling to offer him the part.

Lindner is patching into our interview directly from Suit Man, where the racks of shirts, ties and socks appear exactly as they do in “The Chair Company.” (During our conversation, Lindner walks around the store, iPhone in hand; at one point, a pair of hands appeared from offscreen to adjust his collar for the Zoom camera.) Lindner’s distinctive voice, a Christopher Walken-esque blend of New York accent, long vowels and soft tone, is also identical to the one that appears in the show. The only real difference is that the actual Lindner is wearing a baseball cap — and instead of helping Robinson’s protagonist with a mystery, he’s singing the praises of the real Robinson to a reporter.

“It’s unbelievable how good they are,” Lindner says of Robinson, his creative partner Zach Kanin and their collaborators. “They took someone who had no idea what to do and made me feel comfortable enough to not be nervous,” despite the dozens of crew members crowding into the Suit Man space. Lindner had never so much as read a script before making his acting debut on HBO, but credits Robinson and his team with making him feel at ease.

“I think of it like sports,” Lindner says. “When a good team has a very good manager and head coach, they don’t need to yell. They don’t need to tell you what to do. They’re respected enough that everyone has the common goal to just get it done and make them happy.”

Director Andrew DeYoung first worked with Robinson on “Friendship” before coming aboard “The Chair Company” as an executive producer. Though the idea of casting Lindner came from Robinson, DeYoung didn’t require much persuasion. (HBO asked that Lindner at least read for the network before giving the green light, but he quickly came aboard.) “I was chatting with Jared and was like, ‘This guy is so unique and interesting,’” DeYoung recalls. “There’s something about him and his way of being that’s rare and captivating in the sweetest way possible. No one’s making fun of anybody at all, and I hope that’s clear.”

Though a total acting novice like Lindner is an extreme example of its casting strategy, “The Chair Company” generally avoided big names and recognizable faces when populating its strange, extreme world. Besides Robinson, Lake Bell and Sophia Lillis — who play Ron’s wife and daughter, respectively — are probably the best-known series regulars. Everyone else is much less likely to come with pre-existing associations for the audience, which is precisely the point.

“There’s an excitement when you don’t have the baggage of somebody that you know,” DeYoung explains. “There are so many brilliant people out there that are trying to be performers — or, in Jared’s case, not — who show up and electrify the screen because they bring something special and unique.” That’s what appeals to him, Robinson and Kanin about figures like Lindner, who can make such an impression in such a short span of time. “What’s beautiful about Tim and Zach [is], even if a character has one line, they feel incredibly rich,” DeYoung says. “That, to me, is so exciting. When you have those specificities, a character shows up and you’re like, ‘I would like to follow them.’ It feels like we’re living in a world that goes beyond the screen.” As “The Chair Company” works to build an entire immersive universe where Ron’s paranoid logic makes a certain kind of sense, it’s helpful to cast figures like Lindner who carry an ingrained sense of authenticity.

Suit Man may not have a membership program like Tamblay’s, or an accompanying group chat with five separate guys named Ron in it. But Lindner stresses that he always strives for recurring business. “I always say when a gentleman comes in to see me, I don’t want to sell them one sweater and then never see them again,” he says. “I’d rather sell them a sweater for their wedding, and then their son’s christening, and their other daughter’s baptism, or whatever it is. We’ve made lifelong friends. They’re not even customers.” Even though Lindner says he’s open to acting again after having such a good experience with “The Chair Company,” he’s not abandoning his day job.

When we spoke, Lindner hadn’t yet gotten the chance to watch his own performance, though he has gone back and watched Robinson’s Comedy Central series “Detroiters” to get a sense of what he might expect from the final product. The prospect of introducing himself to a mass audience is the first time in our conversation where even a hint of actorly self-consciousness comes up. “I hope I don’t make a fool out of myself in front of my wife,” Lindner says. “Everybody told me that I did okay, but I guess I’ll have to see for myself on Sunday.”

When Sanjay Dutt Was Cast In & As Khalnayak & Subhash Ghai Revealed Why He Ditched Every Actor For This Villain, “A Man Who’s Full Of…”

When Sanjay Dutt Was Cast In & As Khalnayak & Subhash Ghai Revealed Why He Ditched Every Actor For This Villain(Photo Credit – Wikipedia)

Khal Nayak, released in 1993, has developed a cult following over the years. From the characters to the songs, the film holds a significant place in Indian cinema. Sanjay Dutt’s performance as Ballu Balram won hearts and is still regarded as one of his iconic performances. Subhash Ghai made the right decision to cast Dutt in that part, and he once revealed his reason behind his choice. Keep scrolling for the deets.

Ghai managed to balance mass appeal with moral questions about crime, justice, and redemption. Its mix of action, emotion and music became template for 90s masala blockbusters. The film featured Dutt in the titular role with Madhuri Dixit, Anupam Kher, Rakhee Gulzar, and Jackie Shroff in supporting roles. The movie won multiple accolades and awards, besides being a commercial success.

Subhash Ghai shared the real reason behind choosing Sanjay Dutt for Khal Nayak

In 2023, Khal Nayak turned 30, and during a conversation with Hindustan Times, Subhash Ghai shared how he locked Sanjay Dutt for the role. The filmmaker revealed he was adamant about taking Sanjay Dutt for the role. He reportedly turned down every other actor and chose Dutt for the lead role.

The veteran filmmaker recalled, “Once Sanju asked me why I chose him for the role, and I told him it was because of his eyes. Uski aankhon mein ek bholapan hai, ek bachpana hai. But in the very next moment, you see a man who’s full of anger. He plays the son, but at the same time, he justifies the character of a villain who kidnaps and murders.”

According to a latest report by Mid Day, a sequel to Khal Nayak is being planned. A top production house has acquired the exclusive rights to the film and its future adaptations, with plans to expand it into a cinematic universe featuring antihero-driven stories. As per the source, Sanjay Dutt will reprise the role along with new characters.

The source said, “The movie ended with Ballu being sentenced to life imprisonment. In the second instalment, Sanjay’s character will take the story forward with young actors. After Khal Nayak’s success, it was remade in Telugu, Tamil, and Punjabi. This time, the idea is to make the sequel in Hindi as well as other languages.” They also said, “It will include stories of heroic antagonists like Ballu, who was a victim of his situation.”

Actor Gulshan Devaiah recently shared how he found inspiration in legendary actors like Manoj Bajpayee and Irrfan Khan during his early years. He spoke about how Manoj Bajpayee’s unique film choices stood out, especially during a time when most people were following mainstream cinema.

Gulshan Devaiah On What He Learned From Manoj Bajpayee And Late Irfaan Khan

Speaking to Bollywood Bubble, he said, “When I was at an age where I needed inspiration, Manoj Bajpayee was there. He had an era of his own with films like Satya that left a deep impact on us. While Shah Rukh Khan was also doing something different within commercial films, Manoj ji was taking on realistic and unconventional roles. That really inspired me. At a time when I was feeling low, Manoj sir felt like a shining beacon of hope. His long career and continued passion for acting even today are something I admire a lot.”

Gulshan also praised Irrfan Khan for his unique style and fearless choices. He said, “Irrfan was truly versatile. He brought variety into his roles without changing who he was to please others. He had confidence in his talent and didn’t try to fit in. Sometimes, you can just feel that strong self-belief in people. I also enjoy doing different kinds of roles, and working with different people helps me grow as an actor. You realise that, ‘Oh, I can do this too!’”

Watch the interview here:

Gulshan’s words show how important it is for young artists to have role models who break the mould and inspire others through their honesty and passion for their craft.

Veteran actor Pankaj Dheer, renowned for his role as Karna in BR Chopra’s Mahabharat, passed away on October 15 after a long battle with cancer. His former co-stars Karan Tacker, Vatsal Sheth, Ishita Dutta, Arjun Feroze Khan, and Tanuj Virwani have expressed their heartfelt tributes, remembering him as a joyful and kind-hearted person.

Ishita Dutta, Vatsal Sheth, Karan Tacker And Others Pay Their Last Respects To Pankaj Dheer

As reported by Hindustan Times, the co-stars of the late actor have paid their last tributes.

Arjun Firoz Khan

Arjun Firoz Khan shared, “He was one of the finest gentlemen I’ve ever worked with in Mahabharat, and truly a remarkable human being. He will be deeply missed. We were school contemporaries—though in different schools, we used to play cricket together. Pankaj had an infectious smile that made everyone around him feel happy and at ease.”

Karan Tacker

Karan Tacker recalled, “Pankaj ji was the first senior actor I had the privilege to work with in Rang Badalti Odhani. He treated me like a son, with so much kindness and affection. His passing was a shock, but he will always be remembered with love and respect. My deepest condolences to his family.”

Ishita Dutta

Ishita Dutta shared her feelings, “Hearing the news gave me goosebumps. Working with him was a privilege. He used to bring sandwiches from home just for me and would always save some home-cooked food for me. Everyone who worked with him knew what an incredible person he was. Sadly, I only met him once after the show, and it reminds us how short life is. My prayers are with his family.”

Vatsal Sheth

Vatsal Sheth expressed his sorrow, “It’s very shocking and sad. I had the honour of working with him in my first film, Tarzan and on a show with Ishita. We spent a lot of time together in Goa, where he always made sure everyone was comfortable. He would bring buttermilk for the team every day, even in the heat.”

Tanuj Virwani

Tanuj Virwani reflected, “I worked with him on Poison in 2019. Though we only shared two days on set, he was a wonderful, sporting co-star. He knew my mother, Rati Agnihotri, and was very courteous to me. He would rehearse lines with me before scenes. I’m saddened by his passing, especially since I grew up watching him. I had no idea he was battling cancer, and his loss is a big blow to the industry.”

Beyond his legendary role in Mahabharat, Pankaj Dheer appeared in popular TV series like Chandrakanta, The Great Maratha, Kanoon, and Sasural Simar Ka.
