Kartik Aaryan reacts to winning Best Actor awards for both Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Chandu Champion in 2025: It’s surreal…

by jummy84 October 29, 2025
written by jummy84

For Kartik Aaryan, 2025 will always remain one of his most special years, with big film announcements one after the other, and of course, his Best Actor wins: IIFA for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Filmfare for Chandu Champion, both 2024 releases. As HT City catches up with him, the confidence shines through, in both his choices and ambition:

Kartik Aaryan

Winning your first-ever Filmfare Best Actor award for Chandu Champion – for a new-generation star like you, did the film feel like an ‘experiment,’ and was the win a vindication of sorts?

Honestly, I didn’t look at Chandu Champion as an experiment at all. The moment I heard the story of (India’s first paralympic gold medallist) Murlikant Petkar ji, I was surprised and deeply moved. I felt this was a story of incredible resilience, courage, and self belief; one every Indian should know. I could totally relate to his story and considered myself truly blessed to get the opportunity to portray such an inspirational real-life hero on screen. I will always be indebted to Kabir (Khan, director) sir and Sajid (Nadiadwala, producer) sir for trusting me with this incredible story. Winning the Filmfare Best Actor award feels like a huge validation, not just for me but for the kind of cinema that celebrates real stories and the human spirit.

Is Chatori (your newest pup) a present you have given to yourself for your Chandu Champion win?

(Laughs) Yes, you can say that! Chatori is actually a gift from my mom, and she’s already become everyone’s favourite at home. Bas Katori thodi si insecure ho gayi hai! Abhi tak donon ki dosti nahin hui hai. But still, Katori is very protective of Chatori like a big sister. The house feels livelier with both of them around.

We celebrated Diwali recently, and one is reminded of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 last year, which pretty much set the benchmark for Diwali releases. Do big box office numbers feel like a responsibility, or add pressure?

The love the audience showered on Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 was overwhelming, it felt like a festival inside theatres. The film released alongside another massive franchise, and there was immense anticipation among the audience, trade, and media for both. Together, the two films did a combined business of over ₹800 crores worldwide (BB3 – ₹423.85 cr, Singham Returns – ₹389.64 cr). That year, Diwali genuinely felt like Diwali for the entire industry.

For me, these big box office numbers are very motivating, but more than pressure, I see it as a responsibility, to keep entertaining the audience and living up to their expectations. At the same time, I try not to let the numbers dictate my choices. For me, it’s always about the story and the connection it creates with the audience. If that works, everything else follows.

Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri is set for a New Year eve release. How was it reuniting with (actor) Ananya Panday?

The film has shaped up beautifully, it’s got that perfect mix of heart, fun, and festive energy. We had a blast shooting it, and that vibe translates on screen. Reuniting with Ananya was like picking up where we left off, she was a total live-wire on set. She’s going to surprise everyone. I’m sure the audience will enjoy our chemistry in this fun, refreshing rom-com as Ray-Rumi and all the masti the film brings.

Would you call rom-com ‘your’ genre, given your successful track record in them?

Rom-coms come to me quite naturally, maybe they’re just in my DNA (laughs). I guess the audience also enjoys seeing me in such roles, which makes it more special. But I never want to be confined to one genre. I love exploring different kinds of stories and characters. At the end of the day, I go by what truly connects with me, a story that moves me and one that will entertain the audience, no matter what the genre is.

One hears that you don’t limit yourself to just acting, you get involved in marketing too. There’s even a ‘Kartik Aaryan template’ now. Where did this streak come from?

I think I’m also a bit of a businessman at heart (smiles). For me, it’s equally important to market a film in the best possible way. Today, storytelling doesn’t end with the shoot, how you present it to the audience matters just as much. So I like being involved in all aspects of film making. Thankfully, my producers have been welcoming and yes, even I have heard about the ‘Kartik Aaryan template’ being discussed at films marketing meetings! Trust me, its really encouraging.

Actor-director Satyajeet Puri recently shared a fascinating story about veteran actor Dharmendra, highlighting how the legendary star boldly confronted the underworld during its peak influence in Bollywood.

In an interview, Satyajeet Puri revealed Dharmendra’s bold confrontation with the underworld in Bollywood. Satyajeet has starred in films with Dharmendra in the 80s.(Ashish Vaishnav)

Satyajeet marvels Dharmendra’s fearless attitude

In an interview with Friday Talkies, Puri recalled, “At that time, the underworld was very strong. Many actors would get scared if they were summoned. But Dharamji and his family never feared them. He would tell them, ‘If you come, the whole Sahnewal will come from Punjab. You have 10 people, but I have an army. One word from me and trucks full of people will come from Punjab to fight. Don’t mess with me.’ And they never did.”

Satyajeet Puri, son of veteran actor Satyen Puri, began his career as a child artist. Over the years, he has appeared in a range of roles, from intense dramas to commercial entertainers. In addition to acting, Satyajeet has directed and produced projects. He has shared screen space with Dharmendra in several notable films over the years. Their collaborations include Rajput (1982) Betaab (1983), Taqdeer Ka Badshah (1982), Batwara, and Izzatdaar (1990).

Dharamendra’s comeback

The 89-year-old actor was last seen in Amit Joshi’s romantic comedy Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, sharing the screen with Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, Dimple Kapadia, Rakesh Bedi, Rajesh Kumari, and Anubha Fatehpuria. He also made a grand return in Karan Johar’s 2023 romantic drama Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, co-starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh.

Looking ahead, Dharmendra will reunite with acclaimed filmmaker Sriram Raghavan, after their collaboration in Johnny Gaddaar, for the upcoming war biopic Ikkis (2025). The film chronicles the heroic life of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, India’s youngest Param Vir Chakra recipient, who sacrificed his life at 21 during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. Ikkis is slated for a theatrical release in December 2025.

Scream 7’s Matthew Lillard began career as scare actor

by jummy84 October 26, 2025

25 October 2025

Matthew Lillard began his acting career as a haunt actor.

Scream actor Matthew Lillard

Aged 19, the Scream star ran around scaring people with his “clothes ripped off” during a Halloween event at Knott’s Berry Farm, an amusement park in Buena Park, California.

Matthew, 55, recalled to People: “I was a haunt actor at Knott’s Scary Farm when I was 19 years old.

“And I ran around the asylum with my clothes ripped off and scaring people. And that’s one of my first jobs I ever had.

“I don’t think I’ve ever told anyone that.”

Despite having been a scare actor, the Scooby-Doo live-action movie actor still gets petrified when he goes through haunted houses.

Matthew admitted: “Last year I went through a [haunted house] at Universal Studios […] and I was like, ‘Oh, this is going to be lame.’

“It scared the bejesus out of me.”

However, the actor believes it is “exhilarating” to be scared.

Matthew explained: “I think that that’s why [the horror] industry is so big and so popular. […] I think that people long to feel things, right? That’s why comedies are great, and horror movies are great, because you feel things sitting in a dark theatre.

“And this [is] spooky season, like going to a haunt or going to a local haunted house. I mean, all of that is really why this is such a juggernaut of a holiday.”

Elsewhere, the star said reprising his role as one of the Ghostface killers, Stu, in the upcoming slasher Scream 7 – set to be released in 2026 – was “a risk I was excited to take”.

Matthew – whose Scream alter ego met his bloody end in the original 1996 movie – told People: “I’m nervous, because at this point in my life, the only thing I can do is sort of ruin how people consider Stu. [Especially] if I come back and I suck or I was lame.

“I haven’t seen the movie yet. I don’t know if it works, but it’s a risk. And it’s a risk that I was excited to take. At the same time, I’m nervous to see the outcome. I hope people like it.”

Even so, the Five Nights at Freddy’s actor is confident Scream 7 will be “fantastic”.

He added: “I’m really excited for people to see it. It’s not gonna ruin the franchise, that’s the good news.”

Veteran actor Satish Shah, with his impeccable comedy timing and memorable performances on screen and TV, passed away on October 25 at around 2:30 pm at Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai. The veteran actor was 74 years old. The legendary actor was unwell for a long time with kidney problems and had recently undergone a transplant. His manager informed India Today that the actor’s body is currently at the hospital, and the funeral will be conducted on Sunday.

Having worked for over four decades in the field, Satish Shah became one of India’s dearest actors and best comedians. He reached a wide level of fame for the very first time with the 1983 hit ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’, where his brilliant comic performance and ability to get into several roles made him a household name. He performed unforgettable roles in films such as ‘Hum Saath-Saath Hain’, ‘Main Hoon Na’, ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’, ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa’, ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, and ‘Om Shanti Om’ throughout his life, where he demonstrated his phenomenal range for comedy, drama, as well as emotional roles.

Asrani: The Actor Who Brought Heart To Humour In Indian Cinema | Glamsham.com

by jummy84 October 24, 2025
written by jummy84

The moment one utters the name Asrani, generations over 45 instinctively hear that unforgettable line – “Main Angrezon ke zamane ka jailer hoon!” The words, delivered in his inimitable pitch and rhythm, have outlived the cult classic film Sholay itself. But to remember Asrani only for Sholay would be to overlook one of Indian cinema’s most versatile, consistent, and quietly revolutionary performers.

Govardhan Asrani — simply known as Asrani — was born on January 1, 1941, in Jaipur, into a Sindhi family that had migrated from Karachi after Partition. He trained at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, where he was a classmate of Subhash Ghai and Shatrughan Sinha — both of whom would later acknowledge him as “the actor who could make tragedy sound funny.”

When Asrani came to Mumbai in the late 1960s, comic roles were largely loud and slapstick. What he brought was nuance — a realism hidden beneath humour. His characters were funny, but never foolish. Even in chaos, he maintained control — his expressions were calculated, his pauses deliberate, his delivery razor-sharp.

Asrani became a fixture in Hindi cinema through his 25-film collaboration with Rajesh Khanna. The two shared an off-screen friendship rare for that era. In films like Bawarchi, Aap Ki Kasam, Amar Prem, and Chhoti Si Baat, Asrani was more than comic relief — he was the emotional bridge between the star and the audience.

Few know that it was Khanna who insisted Hrishikesh Mukherjee cast Asrani in Bawarchi and later recommended him to Gulzar. It was Gulzar’s Aandhi and Koshish that revealed Asrani’s ability to shade humour with melancholy — something few comic actors attempted then.

The role of the jailer in Sholay wasn’t originally written for Asrani. Ramesh Sippy had initially considered Mehmood, but it was Asrani’s mock-Hitler audition that sealed the deal. On set, his improvisation — including the goose-step and exaggerated mustache — had the crew in splits. Amitabh Bachchan later recalled that “every time Asrani entered the frame, even rehearsals stopped — everyone wanted to see what he would do next.”

What made the jailer unforgettable wasn’t just the humour, but the satire – a colonial hangover caricatured in one man.

While audiences loved Asrani the comedian, the industry insiders respected Asrani the technician. He directed six films, including Chala Murari Hero Banne (1977), a semi-autobiographical take on a struggler’s life in Bollywood — years before such meta-narratives became fashionable.

He also discovered and mentored several Gujarati actors and screenwriters, quietly contributing to the rise of Gujarati cinema in the 1970s and 80s. Many later television comedians — from Paresh Rawal to Deven Bhojani — have cited Asrani as an early influence for his blend of sincerity and timing.

Unlike many of his contemporaries, Asrani never retired. He adapted. From the melodramatic frames of the 70s to the multiplex realism of the 2000s, he found his place. Whether in Hera Pheri, Malamaal Weekly, or Bhool Bhulaiyaa, he reinvented himself without ever becoming a caricature of his own legacy.

His final screen (released) appearance in The Trial (Season 2), where he played a sharp, high-profile lawyer with an understated arrogance, showed an actor still at work — still experimenting. Critics noted that his controlled performance “proved age had only honed his instinct for restraint.”

Those who knew him personally often remarked that Asrani’s off-screen persona was nothing like his on-screen ones. He was quiet, methodical, deeply spiritual, and known to rehearse each scene multiple times, fine-tuning tone and rhythm. His wife, actress Manisha (of Sholay’s chorus fame), once shared in an interview that Asrani would spend hours watching Charlie Chaplin reels to study “how silence could be comic too.”

He believed comedy was the toughest craft — “you must be intelligent enough to play stupid convincingly,” he once told a film school class in Pune.

On October 20, 2025, Asrani passed away in Mumbai at 84. His departure marks more than the loss of a beloved actor — it closes a chapter of Indian cinema that valued wit, warmth, and workmanship over showmanship.

Asrani’s body of work — over 350 films across languages, tones, and decades — stands as a masterclass in comic realism. He made laughter a language of empathy.

Bollywood has bid adieu to an artist who never sought the spotlight but ended up being the light in every frame he entered. He leaves behind not an obituary, but a legacy — one for generations of actors to learn how truth, timing, and tenderness can coexist in a single smile.

911 Nashville Actor, 23, Had Neuromuscular Disease

by jummy84 October 24, 2025
written by jummy84

Isabelle “Izzy” Tate, who appeared in the pilot episode of 9-1-1: Nashville, has died. She was 23.

She died peacefully Sunday after facing a rare form of Charcot-Marie-Tooth, a neuromuscular disease, the McCray Agency, which represented the Nashville native, told The Hollywood Reporter.

This week, Kim McCray, owner of the talent agency, said on social media: “We are deeply saddened and completely heartbroken to share that Isabelle Tate passed away … I’ve known Izzy since she was a teenager and she recently returned to acting. She booked the first series she auditioned for, 9-1-1: Nashville. She had a wonderful time.”

The post included Tate’s family calling the actress “full of fire, a fighter, never once making excuses for the fact that she might have a disability relative to others. She was also quite musically inclined, often spending hours writing and recording songs with friends and even publishing a few. What she loved the most though was spending time with family and friends, always the life of the party.”

After acting and modeling as a child, Tate graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a business degree. Her return to acting with 9-1-1: Nashville was her first booking for an adult role. The pilot episode was shot in June and debuted Oct. 6.

ABC’s 911: Nashville, starring Jessica Capshaw and Chris O’Donnell, is produced by ABC and 20th Television. The series marks the third show in the first-responder franchise from Ryan Murphy Television.

Tate is survived by her mother, Katerina Tate, stepfather Vishnu Jayamohan, father John Daniel Tate and her sister, Daniella. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Tate’s memory be made to the Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association, which has information on the disease.

Isabelle Tate, known for her role in the series premiere of 9-1-1: Nashville, passed away on Sunday at the age of 23. According to her obituary, she is survived by her mother, Katerina Kazakos Tate; stepfather, Vishnu Jayamohan; father, John Daniel Tate; and sister, Daniella Tate.

Isabelle Tate died on Sunday at age 23.(Isabelle Tate Obituary)

Who was Isabelle Tate?

Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, Isabelle grew up in the Franklin community. She graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and was an aspiring actress who “wanted to change the world.”

“Isabelle loved volunteering her time to all things, particularly animals – her idea of a fun outing was visiting an animal shelter and doling out lots of love,” her obituary states.

“Isabelle was full of fire, a fighter, never once making excuses for the fact that she might have a disability relative to others. She was also quite musically inclined, often spending hours writing and recording songs with friends and even publishing a few. What she loved the most though was spending time with family and friends, always the life of the party. Her sister was her best friend and her mom was her shining beacon of light.”

Isabelle Tate health issues

While her cause of death has not been disclosed, Isabelle shared in a 2022 Instagram post that she had been diagnosed with a progressive neuromuscular disease at age 13. The condition weakened her leg muscles over time, requiring her to use a wheelchair.

“This has been a difficult journey for me because having to accept help and surrender to the progression of this condition has been extremely hard,” she wrote at the time. “While I was trying to come to terms with this, I really did find that I lost myself in certain ways. I hated that it was not only breaking me down physically, but I was allowing it to also break down my spirit.”

She added, “I would’ve never expected something like this to happen to me, as most of us wouldn’t. I don’t know why these were the cards I was dealt in life, but I can’t change it so I’m choosing to embrace it and not let it define me.”

What is a progressive neuromuscular disease?

A progressive neuromuscular disease is a condition that worsens over time, affecting the nerves and muscles and leading to progressive muscle weakness, atrophy, and loss of function. According to the Cleveland Clinic, symptoms often include difficulties with movement, speech, and swallowing. Complications may involve breathing difficulties and cardiac issues.
