Drake to Appeal “Not Like Us” Lawsuit Ruling

by jummy84 October 29, 2025
written by jummy84

Drake is hoping to revive his lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG) that a federal judge threw out earlier this month. The musician and his legal team filed a notice of appeal today (October 29) in a New York federal court.

When reached by Pitchfork, a spokesperson for Drake said, “This confirms our intent to appeal, and we look forward to the Court of Appeals reviewing that filing in the coming weeks.” Representatives for Universal Music Group did not immediately respond to Pitchfork’s request for comment.

Drake filed his lawsuit against UMG in January, alleging that the music corporation “waged an unrelenting campaign” to promote “Not Like Us,” Kendrick Lamar’s famous diss song that he believed to be defamatory. UMG had asked for the complaint’s dismissal, arguing that Drake “lost a rap battle that he provoked and in which he willingly participated.”

Judge Jeannette A. Vargas ostensibly agreed with UMG, ruling that “the broader context of a heated rap battle, with incendiary language and offensive accusations hurled by both participants, would not incline the reasonable listener to believe that ‘Not Like Us’ imparts verifiable facts.”

The Verve’s ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ to be released on 7 inch vinyl for the first time

The Verve‘s classic hit ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ is being released on 7 inch vinyl for the first time ever.

  • READ MORE: Oasis live in Cardiff: a supersonic reunion for a new generation

The ‘Urban Hymns’ hit, which has recently enjoyed a revival at Richard Ashcroft‘s support slots during Oasis‘ Live ’25 reunion tour, is set to be reissued on December 5.

The limited-edition translucent green 7 inch vinyl will feature the original artwork and includes Ashcroft-penned B-side ‘So Sister’, which appeared on the original single. You can pre-order it here.

The song was a huge hit for The Verve in 1997 reaching Number Two in the UK singles chart and Number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The video also became iconic but the song was bittersweet for the band after The Rolling Stones won the publishing rights to it after their former manager Allen Klein – who controls all Stones material from 1963 to 1971 – sued the band over their sample of an orchestral recording by Andrew Loog Oldham. That snippet came from an orchestral version of The Stones’ 1965 song ‘The Last Time’, which Oldham recorded for the album ‘The Rolling Stones Songbook’.

As a result all of the publishing rights and royalties from ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ went to Klein’s company, ABKCO

But in 2019, one of Ashcroft’s managers managed to win back the rights to ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ from The Rolling Stones.

More recently the song has seen a resurgence for Ashcroft during his support slot at Oasis’ shows particularly when one young fan went viral after Shazaming the track.

The clip has even made its way to Ashcroft himself, who shared a post on Instagram making a nod to it and saying that “all new fans” are accepted at his live shows. “Day two. Thanks to everyone who came down and gave such beautiful support for my set,” he wrote.

“If you don’t know it Shazam it, all new fans welcome!”

Ashcroft later said the tour was a “real catalyst” for young fans. He is due to play a run of solo headline arena dates early next year, following a concert at Manchester’s Co-op Live in November. Due to high demand, Ashcroft went on to add a handful of new shows to the tour last summer, which now includes stops in Glasgow, Birmingham, and Newcastle.

Last month, Ashcroft also announced details of a stop at London’s Alexandra Palace Park, and shortly afterwards revealed a huge summer show at Englefield Estate.

Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham Are Back on Speaking Terms

by jummy84 October 29, 2025
written by jummy84

It appears the frozen love has thawed. Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham went on Song Exploder to discuss the making of “Frozen Love,” and it appears the duo are back on speaking terms.

The exes and bandmates reflected on the track, released off the newly reissued Buckingham Nicks, in what appears to be separate interviews. However, Nicks admits throughout her portion that that the two are friendly again. While remembering the moment they met in 1966, when they were students at Menlo-Atherton High School in the Bay Area, Nicks said, “Lindsey and I started talking about it last night. This whole thing seems really like yesterday to us.”

They describe their origin story, when they attended a youth group social and Nicks backed Buckingham on “California Dreamin.’” But they didn’t formally meet until a couple of years later, when they joined the band Fritz. They found success opening for Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin, but producer Keith Olsen told them they’d have better success as a duo.

“Keith was extremely supportive, but Fritz was never able to secure a record deal,” Buckingham says, while Nicks adds that it was “terrorizing” for them. “We loved these guys,” she said. “So we were not at all happy about that, but there was nothing we could do …It was our first super disappointment in the music business.” But, she also added, it was bittersweet: “It was an invitation to greatness, and we both knew it.”

Nicks says she and Buckingham probably wouldn’t have dated if they hadn’t fired Fritz. “It drove us together, because we just couldn’t figure it out,” she said. “And then we fell in love with each other, and that was it.”

They hunkered down to write Buckingham Nicks, and reflected on creating the final track, “Frozen Love.” “The song is about two people that were in love, that had a lot of differences and saw the world slightly differently, but had this like relationship that seemed to be, like a gift,” Nicks said. “I like to think of it as Wuthering Heights or Great Expectations — a modern day love affair, tragedies. Because nobody really loves happy songs. Certainly I didn’t, and neither really did Lindsey.”

Editor’s picks

After it was written, Nicks gave it to Buckingham to work on. “I don’t think she craved my input on that level, and nor did I crave hers on production or instrumental level, either,” he said. “She understood that I was transforming things for her, and I understood that I wouldn’t have had anything to transform without the beautiful center that she’d given me.”

“Our relationship was up and down and up and down and up and down and difficult, but at the same time, fantastic,” Nicks said. “And what we were doing was so fantastic, that it was worth putting up with the trials and tribulations of a relationship that’s difficult.”

Nicks also joked that the line “Hate gave you me for a lover” was unintentional, and that it was originally written as “Fate gave you me for a lover.” “When I hear myself sing that line, it sounds like I’m saying ‘hate,’” she said. “So, that’s not good. I’m sorry, Lindsey. I’m calling him later.”

Trending Stories

Buckingham Nicks was a flop, but it was famously their ticket into Fleetwood Mac. The Song Exploder episode ends with Buckingham recalling the moment he was at Sound City, and heard “Frozen Love” blasting through the studio. “I’m going, ‘What the hell?’” he said. “And so I open the door and I go in, I see this tall guy, like, standing there listening to ‘Frozen Love,’ and he’s just rocking away to this song. And I’m going, ‘What is going on here?’ And so the song finishes, and Keith says, ‘Oh, Lindsey, this is Mick Fleetwood.’”

Last fall, Nicks told Rolling Stone she last spoke to Buckingham at Christine McVie’s celebration of life, and would never consider a proper farewell Fleetwood Mac tour. “The only time I’ve spoken to Lindsey was there, for about three minutes,” she said. “I dealt with Lindsey for as long as I could. You could not say that I did not give him more than 300 million chances.” Hopefully, with the 50th anniversary of Rumours happening in 2027, a reunion is in the air.

Taylor Swift's Ex Backup Dancer Jan Ravnik Eliminated on 'DWTS'

Taylor Swift’s Ex Backup Dancer Jan Ravnik Eliminated on ‘DWTS’

by jummy84 October 29, 2025
written by jummy84

Jan Ravnik’s reputation as Taylor Swift‘s backup dancer precedes him, but unfortunately, her song wasn’t the good-luck charm he might’ve hoped for on Dancing With the Stars.

The dancer and his celebrity partner, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives‘ Jen Affleck, were eliminated on the show’s Tuesday (Oct. 28) episode after performing a contemporary number set to the pop superstar’s Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit “Look What You Made Me Do.” Honoring the night’s Halloween theme, Ravnik channeled a rugged vampire while Affleck wore a spooky blood-red outfit.

After spinning, flipping and twirling their hearts out, the pair received a score of 34 from the judges. Later in the episode, they were eliminated.

“I got all the love from this show,” Ravnik said in a post-show interview with Entertainment Tonight, noting that he was “proud” of Affleck, regardless of the results.

The episode comes shortly after the Slovenian performer drew criticism from former DWTS pros Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd, who called Ravnik’s casting on the show into question on a recent episode of the latter’s The Penthouse With Peta podcast. “Jan has absolutely no business being a pro on Dancing With the Stars,” Chmerkovskiy said at the time.

“There’s zero foundation, technique, quality, understanding of the partnership,” he continued, while Murgatroyd added, “Hiring a non-ballroom dancer to teach ballroom dancing to a celebrity as a job is outrageous.”

But while speaking to ET, Ravnik responded to the criticism by saying, “the people who’s trying to stay relevant, spreading the hate, this is not a way to do it.”

Ravnik was a fan favorite on Swift’s global Eras Tour, during which he supported the 14-time Grammy winner for nearly two years on the road. The dancer has continued working with Swift even after the trek wrapped in December 2024, appearing in her recent music video for Hot 100-topping The Life of a Showgirl single, “The Fate of Ophelia.”

Wolf Alice Electrify with Cathartic Power in Oakland » PopMatters

by jummy84 October 29, 2025
written by jummy84

It’s a Friday night in uptown Oakland, and there’s a buzz in the air as British rockers Wolf Alice arrive at the Fox Theater on their much-anticipated fall tour. The band have won growing acclaim with each of their four albums, but there were four years between the release of 2021’s Blue Weekend and 2025’s The Clearing.

Thus, there’s been a long wait to see Wolf Alice back on tour. The group’s first major-label album since signing with Columbia Records last year is a polished, ambitious collection of songs that explores an array of sonic landscapes. There’s dream pop, power ballads, full-tilt alternative rock, and tunes that defy easy categorization as dynamic vocalist Ellie Rowsell and her cohorts explore their craft.

Sonic diversity is a Wolf Alice trademark, but there’s also a more seasoned approach on The Clearing. The group have been around the block a few times and are moving into their 30s, a time when one starts to ponder life’s existential questions more deeply. “I think a lot of it is like, maybe you think when you’re younger that you’re going to get older and understand yourself and everything around you a bit more,” Rowsell told Rolling Stone UK earlier this year. “Maybe getting older is understanding that you might never. You don’t always figure it out. You don’t figure yourself out because you’re always changing.”

Photo: Lisa Miller

Change can be a fine line in the rock world, where fans want the familiar sound they fell in love with. However, it’s the bands that can maintain their original vibe while also growing and experimenting with their art who tend to have the most enduring careers. Thus, Wolf Alice are poised to continue their ascent. Guitarist Joff Oddie has had to stay home, missing the fall tour while awaiting the birth of his first child. Reports indicate he hand-picked guitarist John Victor to fill in for him, along with keyboardist Ryan Malcolm.

The first few songs here at the Fox Theater showcase the band’s dream pop side, highlighted by the atmospheric vibe of “Delicious Things” from Blue Weekend. Rowsell wears what appears to be a sequined white leotard, white stockings, and white boots, making her look like a cross between an Olympic gymnast and a superheroine from The X-Men.

The set ignites on “Formidable Cool”, an electrifying hard rocker from 2017’s Visions of a Life. Bassist Theo Ellis and drummer Joel Amey lay down a wicked groove, and the guitars crank up the amps to send the group’s sound to a more powerful sonic landscape. The stylish Rowsell seems to embody the concept of formidable cool, with what feels like a shamanic presence, and it becomes evident that she is a first-tier rock goddess and a solid guitarist.

Amey takes the lead vocal on “White Horses”, a vibrant tune about personal identity from the new record, where Wolf Alice soar with a crisp upbeat sound that takes on a multi-dimensional flavor with Rowsell coming in for the choruses. It’s a standout track on the album that really comes alive onstage as the audience grows increasingly engaged. Wolf Alice’s sound clearly has more of an edge in the live setting, and it’s exhilarating to experience.

“Bros” from 2015’s My Love is Cool returns to the dream pop realm and is clearly a fan favorite, as Rowsell gets the adoring audience clapping in unison. “Your Loves Whore” is another song from that 2015 release that soars, a power pop gem where Rowsell’s voice shines. Wolf Alice mix it up when Amey and Malcolm come out front to join Rowsell for trio harmonies on “Safe From Heartbreak (if you never fall in love)”, winning simpatico cheers when they sing, “You fucked with my feelings.”

A showcase moment for Rowsell occurs on “The Sofa”, the dreamy closing track from The Clearing. At first listen, the song may seem like an oddly emotional number about chilling on one’s couch, but the song has deeper layers, both sonically and thematically, as Rowsell explores life’s conflicting emotions. She sings about having a wild side, but sometimes she just wants to lie there on the sofa all day long. A lot of people can probably relate, but only Ellie Rowsell turns this universal feeling into an existential power ballad, with the crowd waving their hands back and forth in sympathetic unison.

“Bread Butter Tea Sugar” follows as an upbeat number that blends a Beatlesque production vibe from the Sgt. Pepper’s era with 1970s pop rock, as Rowsell continues to shine with a giant star backdrop behind her. Wolf Alice crank the energy level to incendiary levels on the combo of “Yuk Foo” from Visions of a Life and “Play the Greatest Hits” from Blue Weekend. There are extra psychedelic lighting effects and wild, side-energy from Rowsell as she headbangs and swings her long hair around like a woman possessed. The energy is contagious, as the Fox is really rocking out now.

“Lipstick on the Glass” returns to a mid-tempo level, but there’s a shimmering vibe as Rowsell emotes in a mesmerizing way over a tight bass line, creating a song that feels like it could be from a neo-noir film soundtrack. “Giant Peach” is a rocker from the first album with a punk edge that revs things up again in sensational fashion. Ellie Rowsell can hang with the best in dream pop, but she transforms into a genuine force of nature on the harder-rocking songs with her mesmerizing presence.

“I’ll tell you one thing, thank god for the West Coast of America,” bassist Theo Ellis says sincerely, thanking everyone for coming out before the band launch into one of their most scintillating songs with “Smile” from Blue Weekend. It’s a Wolf Alice tour de force with the heavy groove, the tight riffs, and Rowsell’s syncopated freestyle type vocals as she sings of lost souls congregating at the bar to remember who they are, before a big chorus. Rowsell is also back on guitar here, rocking out like the rock star that she is.

“Bloom Baby Bloom” pairs well with “Smile”, the hard-rocking first single from the new album that feels larger than life as Rowsell belts out a powerful vocal over big hooks and a fierce beat, culminating in a climactic conclusion to the set.”When I’m playing this song, I’m just trying to channel that Muppet that plays the drums – you know, Animal. Yeah. Just on the floor tom for, like, three-and-a-half minutes. So maybe I’m trying to outgrow my nonanimal persona and into my animal persona,” drummer Joel Amey told NPR about his approach to “Bloom Baby Bloom”, which seems fitting for the song’s high energy level.

“A primal scream to remind yourself that you are brilliant as you are and not to let anyone let you forget that. Maybe when you feel in doubt of your own strength and power, like, it could serve as a kind of encouragement or something that you are amazing,” Rowsell added regarding her intention with the song, highlighting rock’s ever-compelling power to foster and encourage personal empowerment.

The encore of “The Last Man on Earth” starts as a contemplative ballad, before taking off with a shimmering sonic grandeur as Rowsell sings, “You’d like a light to shine on you, Let it shine on you,” seemingly channeling a bit of the vibe from the Rolling Stones‘ “Shine a Light”. It hits the feels like sonic honey for the soul, setting up the finale of the band’s hit power-pop song “Don’t Delete the Kisses”.

It’s been a sensational night at the Fox Theater, as Wolf Alice continue to build on their legend that began with taking their name from a short story of the same name by Angela Carter. It’s apparently a variant of “Little Red Riding Hood” from the perspective of a feral child, which perhaps provides some explanation for how fierce Ellie Rowsell can seem at times onstage. It’s been said that rock ‘n’ roll may not be able to change the world, but that it can get you through the night. Tonight’s performance has undoubtedly been one of those, as fans exit feeling blessed to bask in the uplifting power of Wolf Alice.

I Just Don’t See It Happening Again

Roddy Bottum has no faith in Faith No More reuniting.

In a new interview, the multi-instrumentalist and longtime member of the band was less than optimistic about the possibility of FNM getting back together. The group hasn’t been active in nearly a decade and most recently canceled a run of 2021 concerts due to Mike Patton’s mental health issues in the wake of COVID lockdowns.

In the conversation with Greg Prato of Alternative Nation, Bottum was asked if he would consider playing more shows with Faith No More, to which he replied: “I don’t think so. No.” This after drummer Mike Bordin said frontman Mike Patton was “unwilling” to do anymore FNM shows back in April.

Related Video

“It’s not just me,” Bottum elaborated. “I don’t think anyone’s sort of up for it at this point. We had a bunch of shows that we were gonna play, and they got canceled, just for various reasons. But I don’t think the course that we were on has fixed itself. I just don’t see it happening again, honestly.”

Bottum then looked back on Faith No More’s original reunion run beginning in 2009 and culminating with the release of the band’s final studio album, 2015’s Sol Invictus, with FNM last performing in support of the album in 2016 before going on hiatus.

“I think we did a really good job,” Bottum said. “We played a bunch of reunion tours, and I think we did what we kind of set out to do. So I don’t think anyone’s upset about it or anything. But I mean, for sure, getting back together would mean a big paycheck, but I think all of us are pretty good with what we did, sort of just, like, artistically with the band and committing to ourselves and playing with each other.”

He added: “I think we’re all pretty good with the decisions that we’ve made up to now.”

As it stands, Faith No More’s last show remains an August 20th concert at the Troubadour in Los Angeles.

In the meantime, Bottum has remained active with his queer-pop project Man on Man and is currently promoting his new memoir, The Royal We, which is set for release on November 4th (pre-order here). As for Mike Patton, the singer is set to release a collaborative album with the Avett Brothers in November.

Snapped: Seth Troxler’s 40th Birthday in Ibiza (A Photo Essay)

by jummy84 October 29, 2025
written by jummy84

What happens when artists, celebrities, industry tycoons, and a swarm of dance music aficionados fly into Ibiza to celebrate DJ, producer and cultural curator Seth Troxler’s 40th birthday? According to many, the event of the decade – and according to Seth’s long time friend Bill Patrick, absolute chaos.

The nonstop run of festivities started with a Circoloco show at DC10, where Seth did a b2b with Carl Craig, and red clown wigs and noses were handed out to all in attendance. After historic rains and flooding took the island by storm, the crew returned to form with a “Slim Aarons Palm Springs” themed party, featuring Carl Craig, Eric Duncan (Rub & Rug), Jonny Rock and Rob Mello on the decks.

“What can one say about themselves at 40? I made it — some of my friends are no longer here. I’ve experienced both the greatest pleasures and the deepest pains of my life. I think it’s the variety that makes this prison so welcoming and subversive. For years, I threw parties centered on excess. My 40th was no different — but here’s what I realized: when you have one of the biggest floods in Ibiza in recent history, the bright idea of getting 150 of my friends to trip at the same time, dressed like the Rat Pack meets Pee-wee Herman, was maybe a step too far. And yet, just like life itself, the party was a chaotic mix — something between The Truman Show and Gaspar Noé’s Climax, but styled after The B-52s.” -Seth Troxler

Special thanks to Bill Patrick for the images, who also happens to be the co-host of the podcast Flirting With Friendship alongside Seth. Bill’s story spans New York’s legendary nightlife scene, Berlin’s underground, and stages around the world.

“I’m thankful no one died, and that the show has been renewed for another season. Long live the mentalist, while also closing the chapter on a different time.” -Seth Troxler

Jennifer Walton: Daughters Album Review

by jummy84 October 29, 2025
written by jummy84

When so much popular music integrates footnotes into the main event, it’s a rare treat to approach such a fully formed record knowing so little about an artist, to discern their creative identity and intentions solely through their work. You do not need to know that Daughters concerns the cancer diagnosis and subsequent passing of Walton’s musician father (Nigel Walton had success in the early ’90s as part of eco-feminist dance group Opus III) to feel undone by her cosmic and mundane evocations of grief. This tactile record, mixed by her friend aya, exists between the disconcerting distraction of dreams and the roughhousing confrontation of reality as life rearranges itself in the anticipation and aftermath of a loss.

Walton’s most distinctive trademark is in how she crushes together intricate, organic instrumentation and synths into pummelling cataclysms. Particularly in the first half of the record, her songs climax in joyful attacks that evoke the sounds of a Dance Dance Revolution machine arranged by a symphony orchestra. “Born Again Backwards” shreds the fabric of a once-known reality as gilded, militaristic percussion gives way to something akin to chiptune blastbeats, taking a beat to catch a breath through what sounds like a wheezy toy harmonica, then shooting off once again, spinning Walton’s voice like a top. “Lambs” contemplates looming apocalypse in a concerted attack that sounds like dozens of players slamming wood on metal, an analog recreation of abusing the midi orchestra stab key. The effect is as gorgeous as it is uneasy: Opener “Sometimes” starts as an elegant vignette of dislocation, perky with plucked strings, then relinquishes the exhaustion of maintaining that poise in a nauseous landslide of artillery drums, bleating synths, and brassy squall.

The landscape of Daughters is majestic in its desolation, marked by rattling barns, clapboard houses, dead animals, glowing motels, gas station perfume, infinite skies. As a writer, Walton keys into unavoidably painful and prosaic moments, like sitting “hunched and sick in the concourse” of a hospital on the purgatorial glimmer of “Saints,” the unceasing blip of monitoring machines woven into the fabric of the song, but she also contrasts the drawing of blood with praying for mercy. She has an instinct for myth, characterizing loss in cars crashed into lakes, hungry fires, the haunting feeling of hearing old English folk songs echoing out of context. On the racing title track, familial estrangement, once earthly (“I always muttered something like: ‘He was never around,’” she sings on “Lambs”), then the permanent schism between the living and the dead, is a map torn in two. You can see her world: Serene, obliterating, awesome, it swoops around you like a blizzard.

Hideo Kojima debunks ‘The Matrix’ video game adaptation rumours

by jummy84 October 29, 2025
written by jummy84

Hideo Kojima has responded to the rumours that The Matrix directors The Wachowskis asked him to create a video game adaptation of the hit 1999 film.

Earlier this week Konami executive Christopher Bergstresser told Time Extension that The Wachowski Sisters set up a meeting with Hideo Kojima about developing a video game version of The Matrix. “The two of them came in with their concept artist, and effectively they said to Kojima, ‘We really want you to do the Matrix game. Can you do that?’” However another Konami executive shut down the discussions. The news quickly spread across social media and now Kojima has responded.

“I was surprised to see on social media that the Wachowski sisters had ‘offered me a Matrix game project!’ back in 1999. In all these 26 years, no one ever told me such a conversation had taken place,” he wrote on X. “At the time, we were mutual fans and exchanged emails. The Matrix hadn’t been released in Japan yet, but I had already seen it in theaters in the U.S. and at a preview screening.”

He explained that he met the Wachowskis three times while they were in Japan to promote The Matrix. “There was no mention of an offer.”

“At that time, I was already extremely busy with Metal Gear Solid 2 and probably couldn’t have accepted the offer right away. But if someone had told me, maybe there could’ve been a way to make it work,” he added.

“There’s still time,” wrote one fan. “You’re still here, and so are the Wachowskis. Let’s make it happen,” added another. “What’s stopping you from trying it now? You have your own studio where you make your own rules. Make it happen and see what you get,” said a third.

While Hideo Kojima’s The Matrix game never materialised, Shiny Entertainment’s Enter The Matrix was released in 2003 while 2005 saw both The Matrix: Path Of Neo and The Matrix Online launch.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone Brasil, Kojima spoke about the number of sequels and reboots being created in both gaming and film. “Since they’re already well-known works, it’s easier to produce them and attract investment. From a business perspective, there’s nothing wrong with that,” he explained (via Google translate) “But if the industry only does that, it’s dangerous. We need to keep creating new things.”

In other news, it looks like Crash Bandicoot is set to make a comeback via an animated Netflix show.
