Wu Lyf pull latest single ‘A New Life Is Coming’ from Spotify over CEO’s “investment in AI weaponry”

Wu Lyf have removed their latest single ‘A New Life Is Coming’ from Spotify – find out more below.

In April, Wu Lyf released ‘A New Life Is Coming’, marking their first release in 13 years. Now, just five months later, the band have pulled the song from Spotify – and other streaming platforms. While the band haven’t addressed its removal from Apple Music and other platforms, they did confirm on social media that its removal from Spotify was largely due to Spotify CEO Daniel Ek’s investment in AI military drone tech.

Wu Lyf wrote on Instagram over the weekend: “A few months ago we pulled ‘Go Tell Fire to the Mountain’ from streaming services, clearing ground for a new life to take root. There were several conversations that led to this decision, circling around a disdain for what the Spotify algorithm & economics has done to music culture. Since then we’ve all learned about the Spotify CEO’s investment in A.I. weaponry and seen several bands we respect make statements about removing their music.”

“Now, following some lengthy debate we’ve decided to take ‘A New Life Is Coming’ down as well. Nothing ever changes unless we have the courage to try (& perhaps fail) to do things differently. Today on worldunite.org we’re sharing an early demo of ‘Letting Go’ for LYF members. This take was recorded shortly after the initial idea emerged out of some soul making blues, and though the song has evolved somewhat since then we think it captures something special…”

With the move, Wy Lyf join King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Xiu Xiu – who also recently  announced that they are in the process of removing their music from the platform over Ek’s “investment in AI war drones” – and Deerhoof, who pulled their catalogue from the streamer for the same reason, stating: “We don’t want our music killing people. We don’t want our success being tied to AI battle tech,” Deerhoof said in a statement.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard frontman Stu Mackenzie said: “We’ve been saying fuck Spotify for years. In our circle of musician friends, that’s what people say all the time, for all of these other reasons which are well documented.” He went on to explain that while he doesn’t “really consider myself an activist, and I don’t feel comfortable soapboxing,” the band “don’t really want our music to be here, at least right now”.

In recent years, people have been divided about streaming platforms and their impact on the music industry. In 2024, for example, Ek sparked backlash for his comments relating to the cost of “creating content”, with countless users and musicians describing him as “out of touch”.

Ek later walked back on his comments, explaining in an apology that he had no intention of dismissing the struggles faced by musicians and using the “reductive” label of “content”. The negative response to this was heightened as, around the same time, it was confirmed that Spotify had made profits of over €1billion (£860m), following staff being laid off and subscription prices rising.

The streaming platform also received criticism after it officially demonetised all songs on the platform with less than 1,000 streams – making it harder for artists to generate royalties from their music and restricting new artists looking to crack the music industry.

Fifth Harmony Reunites After 7 Years at Jonas Brothers Concert

Fifth Harmony Reunites After 7 Years at Jonas Brothers Concert

by jummy84 September 1, 2025
written by jummy84

Fifth Harmony are back! On Sunday night, the iconic girl group reunited after seven years to join the Jonas Brothers onstage during their concert in Dallas.

Normani, Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane, and Lauren Jauregui — in matching black outfits — emerged from behind smoke to the tune of “Worth It,” for a choreography-filled comeback. The girls then transitioned into “Work From Home,” as the crowd watched in surprise.

Nick, Kevin, and Joe Jonas then took the stage to hug each of the group’s members. Fifth Harmony also debuted a new logo.

The four-piece reunion comes after two years of speculation that the group was considering getting back together, especially after their songs “Work From Home” and “All in My Head” saw huge resurgences on TikTok. (Rolling Stone shut down reunion rumors last year, but there has since been new speculation.)

Camila Cabello, who left the group in 2016, was missing from Sunday night’s performance. She wouldn’t have been able to attend regardless, as she had a solo show in Sydney, Australia, on Saturday evening.

Earlier in the day, the Fifth Harmony X account reactivated by posting “#FifthHarmonyFollowSpree.” Jane also shared an Instagram post alluding to the return, “The impossible is possible. Full of gratitude today.” The group’s website was also updated to say “coming soon.”

Most recently, Brooke, Jane, and Jauregui shared photos of themselves on a tropical vacation to celebrate Brooke’s 32nd birthday. (Jauregui later shared that Normani was busy with work and had to miss the trip.)

While Sunday night’s show is the first time all the members reunited since their indefinite hiatus in 2018, Brooke joined Jane onstage at her November 2024 show in Los Angeles to sing Fifth Harmony’s “Better Together.” The pair also recorded a Christmas duet.

Editor’s picks

“We hadn’t seen each other in five years, and it was like we didn’t ever leave,” Brooke told Rolling Stone in December 2023 when discussing their holiday collab.

“Music is very healing,” Jane added at the time. “Collaborating again and starting from scratch would be a very big healer as well. This planted the seed for us, I would say.”

The members of Fifth Harmony have been friendly with each other over the last few years. All of the group’s members (including Cabello) shared tributes for the 10th anniversary of the group’s formation in 2022, and came together to congratulate Normani for dropping her debut album last summer. Most recently, Cabello shared videos of herself dancing to Fifth Harmony’s “Work From Home” with girl group Katseye, and said in December 2024 that she and Normani were “getting back” to feeling like when they were “really close.”

Fifth Harmony originally formed in 2012 on The X-Factor USA. The girl group dropped their debut album Reflection in 2015 (featuring songs like “Worth It” and “Sledgehammer”), and released their second LP, 7/27, following the massive success of “Work From Home,” in 2016. At the end of that same year, Cabello left the group.

As a four-piece, Fifth Harmony went on to release one more album, titled Fifth Harmony. They then announced an indefinite hiatus in 2018, and gave fans. a post-split video for their song “Don’t Say You Love Me,” which ended with each member exiting a door left open, alluding to the possibility of a return.

For their part, the Jonas Brothers kicked off their Jonas20: Greetings from Your Hometown Tour on Aug. 10 in New Jersey, and have brought out special guests at each show. During their Aug. 10 concert in New Jersey, the band brought out Demi Lovato for a Camp Rock reunion and Jesse McCartney for “Beautiful Soul.” Since then, they’ve welcomed All Time Low, JoJo, Hanson, and Russell Dickerson as guests at various shows.

Trending Stories

Sunday night’s performance, which featured the 5H reunion, is one of five Jonas20 concerts that will stream live on Samsung TV Plus. The band’s concerts on Oct. 12 in Milwaukee, Oct. 26 in Orlando, and Nov. 9 in Buffalo, will also stream live on the platform.

Baylee Lynn’s ‘Cautiously Optimistic’ Voted Favorite New Music

by jummy84 September 1, 2025
written by jummy84

Baylee Lynn’s debut single “Cautiously Optimistic” tops this week’s new music poll.

In a poll published Friday (Aug. 29) on Billboard, music fans voted the 17-year-old singer-songwriter’s first-ever release as their favorite new track of the week.

“Cautiously Optimistic” earned 64% of the vote, beating out fresh releases from artists like Sabrina Carpenter (Man’s Best Friend), Hayley Williams (Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party), Zach Top (Ain’t In It For My Health), and Blood Orange (Essex Honey).

The Tennessee native’s debut, produced by AJ Pruis, is a country-pop anthem inspired by artists like Dolly Parton and Faith Hill that captures the emotional journey of navigating love after heartbreak.

“When we wrote ‘Cautiously Optimistic,’ I envisioned this song being one that most teenage girls can relate to,” Lynn said in a statement. “I know what it’s like to be the girl who’s scared of letting her guard down because she fears being hurt again — but also what it’s like to be the girl who’s so good at ignoring all the red flags. I am beyond thrilled for this song to finally be out in the world!”

The track was co-written by Lynn, Pruis, Kyle Sturrock and Brett Tyler.

Carpenter’s Man’s Best Friend took second place in the poll, pulling in 26% of the vote. The pop star’s seventh studio album, produced by Jack Antonoff, arrives just over a year after her Grammy-winning Short n’ Sweet, which topped the Billboard 200 for four weeks.

Williams’ Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party, a collection of previously released singles with a brand new song titled “Parachute,” came in third with nearly 4% of the vote.

Check out the full results of this week’s poll below and visit Billboard’s Friday Music Guide for more must-hear releases.

The Who Bid Farewell to NYC with Triumphant MSG Show

by jummy84 September 1, 2025
written by jummy84

The lead-up to The Who‘s North American farewell tour may have been a bit bumpy, but the legendary rock band was in fine form at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Saturday night (August 30th).

“The World’s Most Famous Arena,” as it’s known, has been a special place for The Who over the years, with the band having played MSG three-dozen times, including their show-stealing 2001 performance at the Concert for New York City honoring first responders just six weeks after the 9/11 attacks.

Get The Who Tickets Here

Saturday evening began with a set by indie singer-songwriter Feist, whose enchanting vocals echoed nicely through the arena. She expressed gratitude and awe in having the chance to open for an iconic band like The Who, and was received warmly by the crowd, even though her efforts to pump them up for the headliner fell a bit short. However, by the end of her set, she had many in the audience singing along to her signature song “1234.”

As mentioned, it hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing in The Who’s camp in the months leading up to the farewell outing. A messy breakup with drummer Zak Starkey stole headlines for a few weeks, while singer Roger Daltrey wondered aloud if he would even make it to the end of the tour, citing his health and age as concerns. In fact, The Who had to postpone a couple of recent shows in Atlantic City and Philadelphia due to an undisclosed illness within the band.

Yet, when The Who took the stage shortly before 9 p.m. at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night, everything seemed to fall into place. The band kicked things off with their early single “I Can’t Explain,” and banged out the classics “Substitute” and “Who Are You” right after. Daltrey’s voice sounded as strong as it’s been in years, while Pete Townshend had a spring in his step as he delivered his trademark windmill guitar move with plenty of gusto.

Now’s probably a good time to point out that Daltrey is 81 and Townshend is 80, and it’s likely neither envisioned themselves rocking out this hard in their eighties — after all, it was Townshend and Daltrey who respectively wrote and sang the infamous line, “I hope I die before I get old.” But here they were, bringing the rock to the MSG crowd more than 60 years after forming the band.

The set continued with Townshend taking lead vocals on the rarity “Long Live Rock,” performed for the first time since 2014. Other highlights of the middle of the set included “Pinball Wizard,” “Behind Blue Eyes,” and an extended version of “My Generation.” The band also represented their post-Keith Moon early ’80s Kenney Jones era with standouts like “Eminence Front” and “You Better You Bet.”

Coco Gauff Says Simone Biles Inspired Her US Open Win

Coco Gauff Says Simone Biles Inspired Her US Open Win

by jummy84 September 1, 2025
written by jummy84

Coco Gauff is one of the sports world’s most prominent rising faces, and she further cemented her star power at this year’s US Open. The Georgia-born talent won her second round match in straight sets against Donna Vekić on Thursday (Aug. 28) and said fellow athlete Simone Biles was her inspiration through the tough matchup.

During a difficult first set, Gauff was left in tears as she fought through the building pressure. The world No. 3-ranked player pushed through and wrapped the match up 7-6(5), 6-2. She became emotional again during her her post-match interview and took the time to acknowledge and thank Biles who was watching in the stands.

“She helped me pull it out. I was just thinking if she can go on a six-inch beam and do that under all the pressure of the world, then I can hit the ball on [this court],” Gauff said.

She said thinking about the trials and tribulations the Olympic gold medalist went through was what gave her the motivation to secure her victory. “It brought me a little bit of calm, just knowing her story with all the things she went through mentally, so she’s an inspiration surely and her presence definitely did help me today,” she added. The camera then panned over to Biles in the crowd who cheered and shouted, “Love you!” Watch the moment below.

During her road to becoming one of the most decorated gymnasts in the world, Biles faced her own set of peaks and valleys. In 2021, she withdrew from several individual events at the Tokyo Olympics after she decided to prioritize her mental health.

Gauff currently leads the WTA Tour with 320 double faults so far this season. She told reporters that she’s feeling confident her performance will be on an upwards trajectory moving forward. “It’s been tough doing it all over and kind of refactoring everything, a motion that I knew very well,” she said, per CNN. “But I know for the future this is the right step forward, and this is the biggest test of them all. It will only get easier from here.”

She also opened up about why she decided to have a farewell tour while appearing as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

While she clarified that she’s by no means retiring, Lauper has ruled out “the trains, planes and automobiles”, suggesting that she’s open to the occasional hometown performance. She explained further: “I want to do an arena tour… I’m strong now, but I don’t know what I’m going to be like in four years.”

Shortly after, Lauper acknowledged her age by getting off her seat to mimic herself using a walker. “For me, I wanted to have a chance to do this when I’m feeling strong. I want to celebrate with people. Really celebrate with people, and make it fun.”

In other news, Lauper was recently nominated to be inducted into the 2025 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

Ever since the Latin superstar decided to hold a residency in Puerto Rico at the famed El Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot to celebrate his career-defining album Debí Tirar Más Fotos, thousands have flocked to the island that’s always inspired Bad Bunny.

Amongst die-hard fans, tourists, and fellow Boricuas, Bad Bunny’s celebrity friends have also come out to P.R. to party in La Casita, a little house that’s part of the staging at each performance and serves like an official VIP clubhouse. The shows kicked off on July 11, and from the jump, all-star attendees like LeBron James and Mbappe shown up to cheer on Benito. Bad Bunny and Austin Butler became fast friends while shooting the new Darren Aronofsky film Caught Stealing, so no one was shocked  when the Oscar-nominated actor turned out for one of his bud’s Puerto Rico shows. They were surprised when Butler admitted his dancing, which the Internet mocked as extreme white boy moves, were the result of being a little too high:  “Somebody gave me an edible right before the show, and I thought that was a good idea at the time,” he said on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. —J.L.

K-Pop Albums to Hit Number One on Billboard 200: Full List

by jummy84 August 31, 2025
written by jummy84

Stray Kids’ new album KARMA puts K-pop back in a familiar spot – No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart. By debuting at No. 1 on the chart dated Sept. 6, KARMA becomes the 20th album or EP by a K-pop act to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The first was BTS’ Love Yourself: Tear in June 2018.

Stray Kids has amassed seven No. 1 titles on the Billboard 200, which puts them out front among K-pop acts. BTS is in second place, with six No. 1 titles. ATEEZ is next in line with two No. 1s on the Billboard 200. SuperM, BLACKPINK, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, NewJeans and TWICE have all notched one No. 1 to date.

BLACKPINK was the first female K-pop act to land a No. 1 album on the Billboard 200. They scored with Born Pink in 2022. NewJeans and TWICE were the second and third.

K-pop groups tend to be large ensembles. TWICE has nine members, one more than Stray Kids and ATEEZ. BTS and SuperM each have seven members. TOMORROW X TOGETHER and NewJeans each have five members. BLACKPINK has four members. To date, no K-pop solo artists, duos or trios have topped the Billboard 200.

There have been multiple No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 by K-pop acts in every year since 2018 except for 2021, when there were none, and 2025, when there has been just one so far. The peak year (to date) for most No. 1 K-pop albums on the Billboard 200 was 2023, when there were five. There were four in 2022 and four again in 2024.

Here’s a list of all K-pop albums to top the Billboard 200. They are listed in chronological order.

Alan Ritchson Stars, Jack White Was Musical Director

by jummy84 August 31, 2025
written by jummy84

Jack White has revealed the trailer for Potsy Ponciroli’s nearly silent action film, Motor City, for which the Detroit rocker served as musical director. Watch it below.

Led by Reacher’s Alan Ritchson, Motor City is set in 1970s Detroit and only features four or five lines of dialogue, depending on whether you go by Ponciroli or co-star Ben Foster’s count. The trailer, soundtracked by Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain,” shows Ritchson’s John Miller being arrested after being set up by local gangster Reynolds (Foster).

“A working class romantic is framed by a ruthless gangster after falling for his girlfriend,” reads the official synopsis. “After years in prison, he returns with only one mission: revenge.”

Related Video

Directed by Ponciroli from a script by Chad St. John, Motor City also stars Shailene Woodley as Sophia, who is caught in a love triangle between Miller and Reynolds. The cast is rounded out by Pablo Schreiber, Ben McKenzie, Lionel Boyce, Amar Chadha-Patel, and more.

Motor City premiered at the Venice Film Festival this weekend, but it currently doesn’t have a theatrical release date.

In other Jack White news, he recently got the attention of the White House after blasting the “disgusting” Oval Office decorations. In response to being called a “has-been loser,” White hit back with a lengthy Instagram post, saying that Trump is “masquerading” as a Christian, a leader, and a businessman. He also went after “professional liar toadies” like White House communications director Steven Cheung and press secretary Karoline Leavitt, for “covering up and masking his fascism as patriotism.”
