Duki’s ‘Rockstar’ Rise (and Challenges) Shine in Netflix Doc Trailer

by jummy84 September 13, 2025
written by jummy84

Duki’s meteoric rise in Argentina’s trap scene will be the focus of a new Netflix documentary. On Friday, the streaming service released the first trailer for Rockstar: Duki Desde el Fin Del Mundo, premiering Oct. 2.

Directed by Alejandro Hartmann, the film traces Duki’s evolution from freestyler to cultural phenomenon in South America and Spain. “People saw with their own eyes that I was a little kid like any other,” a young Duki says in the clip, speaking of his rise doing freestyles for El Quinto Escalón. “Before freestyling, I wanted to make music.”

The trailer weaves together moments of acclaim and criticism, along with emotional family memories, including an interview with his mother in tears, recalling, “I couldn’t believe what I was looking at!” as home videos of him as a baby play.

“At a turning point in his career and artistic identity, Mauro finds himself shedding his skin and confronting his inner demons to carry forward the story of Duki and the movement he represents,” reads the synopsis. “Who is Mauro, and who is Duki in the end?”

The teaser also features appearances by Bizarrap and Young Miko. “Duko is like putting on the superhero suit,” says Duki at the end of the video.

Rockstar: Duki Desde el Fin Del Mundo comes several months after he released his album 5202 in July, featuring “Golfista,” “5202 Type Beat,” and “Agarro La Plata.” And in 2024, Duki welcomed Myke Towers, Eladio Carrion, YG, and Lil Wayne on Ameri.

“For this one, we gave ourselves a lot of time,” he told Rolling Stone when discussing the record back in December. “I’m very in the moment, so it’s hard for me to make an album and hold it for a while, and then go back into the studio to re-record things, but I felt like it was worth it for this.”

2025 Caribbean Music Awards Performances, Ranked

by jummy84 September 13, 2025
written by jummy84

From reggae legends like Sizzla and Buju Banton to innovative breakout stars like Lady Lava and dancehall upstarts such as Armanii, the third annual Caribbean Music Awards certainly weren’t lacking in star power and memorable performances. The Aug. 28 ceremony, which unfolded at Brooklyn’s Kings Theater ahead of a BET telecast on Sept. 12, celebrated the biggest artists and buzziest records across Caribbean music over the past year, with over 40 categories honoring genres like reggae, dancehall, soca, zess-steam, konpa, calypso, gospel and R&B.

Shenseea, who tied Masicka as this year’s most-nominated artist (seven apiece), was the night’s biggest winner, with five victories, including dancehall album, song and collaboration of the year. King of Dancehall Vybz Kartel, who kicked off 2025 with a revelatory Billboard cover story, took home three awards, including male dancehall artist of the year and music event of the year for his seismic Kingston-conquering Freedom Street concert last December. Lady Lava, whose “Ring Finger” earned an effusive co-sign from Cardi B, won the inaugural zess-steam artist of the year award, and Yung Bredda and Armanii took home this year’s impact awards for soca and dancehall, respectively.

Outside of the hardware, this year’s ceremony also featured a slew of roof-raising performances from acts such as Elephant Man, Full Blown, Lady Lava, Lila Iké, Romain Virgo and more. Although Spice and Kes were named performers of the year for dancehall and soca, respectively, neither act graced the stage. Additionally, none of the night’s special honorees (Busta Rhymes, Bounty Killer, Sizzla, Kerwin Du Bois, Shirley Ann Cyril-Mayers, Austin “Super Blue” Lyons and Carimi) performed, save for an impromptu freestyle from Bounty near the end of his lifetime achievement award acceptance speech. All of their on-stage absences were certainly felt, but this year’s Caribbean Music Awards featured a lineup that pleased music lovers across generations and genres.

Here’s Billboard’s ranking of every performance at the 2025 Caribbean Music Awards.

  • Romain Virgo, “Soul Provider” & “Fade Away”

For the “Voices of the Caribbean” segment, Jamaican singer-songwriter and reggae fusion artist Romain Virgo graced the stage with solid renditions of “Soul Provider” and “Fade Away,” two cuts from his 2015 Lifted LP.

While his performance certainly flaunted his vocal chops, Virgo made an interesting, if not confusing, choice to ignore his most recent album, 2024’s The Gentle Man. That record earned Virgo three awards at this year’s ceremony, including reggae album of the year, male reggae artist of the year, and reggae song of the year for the Masicka-assisted “Been There Before.” It’s always nice to honor an album anniversary, but it would have been even sweeter to see The Gentle Man get its moment in the spotlight.

  • Maureen, “Tic”

Maureen scored a major global hit alongside Blaiz Faiyah and DJ Glad with the shatta-inflected “Money Pull Up.” Considering we didn’t get “Hit & Run” (Shenseea, Masicka & Di Genius) or “Shake It to the Max” (Moliy, Shenseea, Skillibeng, Disco Neil and Silent Addy) performances — after all, those are probably the two biggest global Caribbean hits of the past year, alongside “The Greatest Bend Over” — it would have been nice to see “Money Pull Up” get a shining moment.

Regardless, Maureen absolutely rocked Kings Theater with a fiery rendition of 2020’s “Tic.” Complete with high-octane choreography (including the splits!) and electric stage presence sourced from music’s greatest divas, the France-based Martinican artist pulled off one of the strongest solo performances of the night. Maureen may have lost French-Caribbean artist of the year to Joé Dwèt Filé, but she still left the ceremony a winner.

  • Lila Iké, “Where I’m Coming From”

Similar to Virgo’s performance, Lila Iké’s part of the “Voices of the Caribbean” segment was an impressive display of her singing and performance prowess. As soon as she stepped on stage, Iké instantly enchanted every ear in Kings Theater with hef smoky, earthy timbre.

It’s always a treat to hear “Where I’m Coming From,” one of the most resonant hits from her 2020 ExPerience EP, but Iké had a slew of new music she could have performed. That night, she took home her third consecutive trophy for best female reggae artist, which coincided with her additional nominations for reggae song of the year (“Fry Plantain,” with Joey Bada$$) and reggae collaboration of the year (“Bruises,” with Mortimer & Kabaka Pyramid). Moreover, the Manchester Parish-bred star dropped her debut full-length album, Treasure Self Love, just six days before the ceremony (Aug. 22).

Virgo and Iké are two of contemporary reggae’s brightest stars and strongest voices. Hearing them amplify their newest releases would have brought the night to another level.

  • Lady Lava, “Ring Finger”

Between “Ring Finger” and “Bob the Builder,” most of 2025 has belonged to fast-rising Trinbagonian zess star Lady Lava. With that in mind, it’s no surprise the Cardi B-approved artist was tapped to close out the ceremony.

Donning a bright pink ball gown-esque number, Lava strutted out onstage to the tune of the humming “Ring Finger” intro, waving a wand as she turned Kings Theatre into her personal zess-steam royal court. Although her background dancers were giving their all, they were simply no match for Lava’s presence and charisma — or the infectious nature of her irresistible smash hit.

  • Elephant Man & Ding Dong, Opening Medley

Elephant Man and Ding Dong have ruled dancefloors around the world for two decades with “Pon de River, Pon de Bank” and “Badman Forward, Badman Pull Up,” respectively, so it only makes sense that the two dancehall icons joined forces to open the third annual Caribbean Music Awards.

Beginning his performance in the Kings Theater lobby, Elephant Man, decked out in a glitzy navy blue sweatsuit, paraded into the main theater to the tune of “Pon de River,” trailed by a procession of dancers that included Tanisha Scott, a three-time nominee for the MTV Video Music Award for best choreography. As Elephant Man made his way to the main stage, Ding Dong pulled up to perform “Badman Forward,” the song that sparked his musical breakthrough exactly 20 years ago.

The two artists then performed their “Dip Again” collaboration before trading solo cuts back and forth. Elephant Man delivered raucous renditions of “Nuh Linga” and “Signal de Plane,” while Ding Dong tore through “Ravers Gas” and “Happiness.” With unwavering energy and a catalog-traversing medley, Elephant Man and Ding Dong perfectly set the tone for the rest of the ceremony.

  • Full Blown, Machel Montano & Ayetian, Big Links Riddim Medley

Outside of “Shake It to the Max,” no Caribbean song dominated the globe like Yung Bredda’s “The Greatest Bend Over,” which appears on Full Blown’s wildly successful “Big Links” riddim.

Although Yung Bredda, this year’s soca impact award winner, was not in attendance, that didn’t stop the sibling production duo from delivering the night’s best performance. Kicking things off with their own “Good Spirits,” Full Blown turned Kings Theater into a backyard family gathering, complete with folding tables, plastic cups and all. Keeping things focused on the “Big Links” riddim, the duo then brought out Machel Montano for a surprise performance of “The Truth,” which gave way to another surprise — this time, one from Machel himself.

In a smart riff on the lyrics and title of “The Truth,” the current King of Soca surprised the Caribbean Music Awards with Ayetian, one of the hottest new names in dancehall. Together, the pair performed their hit “Truth and Balance,” bridging multiple generations of soca and dancehall stars, before closing things out with a theater-wide sing-along of “The Greatest Bend Over.” Sure, surprise performers are a low-key cheat code, but that only works when those performers deliver a set that immediately lives up to that hype — and that’s exactly what Full Blown accomplished alongside Machel and Ayetian at the Aug. 28 ceremony.

Spinal Tap’s “Cups and Cakes” with Paul McCartney Is Our Song of the Week

by jummy84 September 13, 2025
written by jummy84

Each week, our Songs of the Week column highlights the best new tracks from the last seven days. This week, we’re celebrating the newly-released Spinal Tap II and its Paul McCartney-featuring rework of “Cups and Cakes.”

Much like their new movie Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, the new album from the greatest fictional rock band of all time draws a lot on the past as well as the future. There are multiple original tracks on The End Continues, but also featured are a few covers of Spinal Tap classics, including Elton John on “(Listen to the) Flower People” and the previously released “Stonehenge,” as well as Paul McCartney leading a new version of “Cups and Cakes” that brings with it a delightful meta element.

“Cups and Cakes” was originally released on the 1984 mockumentary’s soundtrack (though never heard in the film), and in a 2009 interview with The AV Club, Spinal Tap star Michael McKean admitted to being “a little sentimental” about it, referring to the song as “kind of like their string-laden ‘Eleanor Rigby’ sound.” So what could be better than having a gosh-darn Beatle guest on it?

Related Video

The album version is, naturally, much more produced than the rendition heard in the movie, which features McCartney sitting in on a jam session with the band as they squabble over chords. In both cases, though, it’s genuinely delightful to witness one of rock’s great legends engaging with Spinal Tap as if they are the rock legends that… Well, maybe technically, they are. They did just release a new album, after all, their fourth studio album to date, and are still playing together after literal decades. Not so many bands can say the same.

Perhaps part of that longevity is thanks to the band not being too precious about sticking to any specific genre or format: In that AV Club interview, McKean did note that “Cups and Cakes” is “certainly not textbook Spinal Tap,” but it does represent the lads playing around while maybe lightly parodying The Kinks, with all the goofy instrumental flourishes you could ever ask for. It speaks to a massive part of the sequel film’s charm — the way it showcases how McKean, Harry Shearer, and Christopher Guest are still finding the joy in making music together, after these years. (Also, after listening to it more than a few times… I’m now craving a traditional British teatime.)

dust — “Alastair”

Australian rock quintet dust have a gem with “Alastair,” their new song and the latest from their upcoming debut album Sky Is Falling (out 10/10). It starts off in dreamland with crystalline guitars, a winding bass line, and a beach pop feel. They reach their stride in the chorus, oscillating between a more driven approach and a resigned haze. Then, the band collapses into a fraught, fuzzy groove for the outro, the drums escalating in energy while co-vocalist Justin Teale squeezes in one last verse. Even in their sweetest modes, dust have no problem complicating their sound to keep us on our toes. Looking for another great rock band with a saxophonist? They’re right here. — Paolo Ragusa

Rachel Bobbitt — “Hush”

Rachel Bobbitt has shared “Hush,” the latest offering from her upcoming debut album Swimming Towards the Sand (out 10/17). Keeping with the album’s oceanic theme, “Hush” is a buoyant, tender dream pop cut, the wading of waters symbolized by the ebb and flow of Bobbitt’s melodies. Most stark is the chorus, where Bobbitt is surrounded by thick harmonies, too sour for serenity but full enough to elicit powerful emotions. When she enters a full-voiced belt, like when she sings “Eye to eye,” she sounds like no one else. — P. Ragusa

Rapsody, Madlib — “Avon Thru the Wire”

Rapsody has always been in a league of her own. On “Avon Thru the Wire,” a textured, soulful track of pensiveness inspired by the character Avon Barksdale from the revered HBO series The Wire, Rapsody manipulates her voice to tell an evocative story of multiple characters. Opening with a pitched-down vocal, Rapsody takes on the role of a hustler contemplating the consequences of getting caught up in the street life, and expressing appreciation for a longtime friend who reserved judgment. The North Carolina rapper blends the deepened voice with her own natural tone, weaving a narrative of personal reflection and emphasizing the importance of support among people of different trajectories. “It’s for you to believe, it’s for you to achieve/ It’s still time for you/ For your life, I never grieved,” Rapsody spits near the end. Not unlike The Wire itself, Rapsody uses this song to stress the importance of seeing flawed individuals as humans in need of compassion and grace. — Kiana Fitzgerald

Ragana, Drowse — “In Eternal Woods Pts. 2-3”

Labelmates and fellow gloomy music makers Ragana and Drowse have officially joined forces for a full-length project. Their collaborative album, Ash Souvenir, drops November 14th on The Flenser, and judging by the lead single, avant-metal heads are in for a treat. Enticingly titled “In Eternal Woods Pts. 2-3,” the track is crushing, heavy, and incredibly emotive. There are hints of black metal in the tremolo guitars and the guttural screams of the lead vocals, while the back half offers brief glimpses of Drowse’s more atmospheric, slow-core tendencies. All the while, lyrics dealing with loss, love, and sacred places match the instrumental’s epic scope. — Jonah Krueger

Rochelle Jordan — “Sweet Sensation”

Rochelle Jordan is mounting her comeback. The British-Canadian singer-songwriter has been teasing her upcoming album, Through the Wall, since this spring. Her latest offering, “Sweet Sensation,” is yet another instance of Jordan firing a flare gun into the night sky, signaling her highly anticipated return. She hasn’t released an original album since 2021’s Play With the Changes, and prior to that, her breakthrough album 1021 was released in 2014.

Jordan may be sparing in her musical output, but every time she chooses to let us into her creative world, we learn more about what drives her. “Sweet Sensation” feels like an homage to Evelyn “Champagne” King, Cherrelle, and other R&B divas of the ’80s. With West Coast legend DāM-FunK and Jordan’s longtime creative director and executive producer KLSH behind the boards, the song is carried by a rugged bass line, twinkling production, and Jordan’s airy, sensual vocals. Settling squarely in the space of disco-inflected pop&B, “Sweet Sensation” sounds like a summer vibe, despite its near-fall release date. Not to worry: Just play this on repeat for the next 9 months. — K. Fitzgerald

TiaCorine — “Backyard” featuring JID

When TiaCorine released her viral single “FreakyT” in 2022, she put us all on alert and let us know what to expect. On that song, we learned the North Carolina rapper is a grown-ass woman who’s not afraid to talk about her wants and desires. TiaCorine keeps that exact same energy on the JID-assisted “Backyard,” the latest single dropped ahead of her forthcoming album CORINIAN. Over propulsive production that features thrumming bass and a looped soulful interjection, TiaCorine pops her shit about her preferences and capabilities in the bedroom. JID understands the assignment, contributing lyrics like “I stand up in this bih, I’m like the governor in Atlanta/ Put a planet on my wrist, she made a puddle in the passenger.” While the song largely caters to carnal impulses, both artists still find the time to establish themselves as sought-after MCs who can spit amongst the best in their field.  — K. Fitzgerald

Ne-Yo Shares An “Alaskan King-Sized Bed” With His Four Girlfriends

by jummy84 September 13, 2025
written by jummy84

Ne-Yo‘s unconventional love life apparently comes with an unconventional bed.

While recently live streaming with YouTuber Kai Cenat for his Mafiathon 3 series, the R&B star revealed he shares a custom Alaskan King-sized bed with his four girlfriends. “That’s like two California Kings next to each other,” Ne-Yo explained. “You gotta get that mattress made.”

The 45-year-old singer is currently in a polyamorous relationship with Cristina “Pretty Baby,” Arielle Hill “Twin Flame,” Moneii “Phoenix Feather,” and Brionna Williams “Sexy Lil’ Somethin’.” While he is not legally married, the “So Sick” crooner said he considers the women his “wives.”

“My love life is phenomenal,” he added. “I have four beautiful ladies that move with me on a regular.”

Ne-Yo first introduced his partners on Instagram in March, calling them his “pyramid.”

He has since said the relationship works because of their open communication style and clear boundaries. On The Angie Martinez Show, he explained that exclusivity was his girlfriends’ choice. “They came to me and said, ‘I want to be exclusive to you and just you,’” he recalled. “I said, ‘You understand that your exclusivity to me does not mean my exclusivity to you?’”

The singer, who divorced Crystal Renay Williams in 2023, said his only rule is honesty. “We’re not gonna lie to each other,” he said. “We’re not gonna sit up here and blow smoke.”

Sharon Osbourne Shares Heartfelt Message to Fans After Ozzy’s Death

by jummy84 September 13, 2025
written by jummy84

Sharon Osbourne posted a heartfelt message to fans on Friday, thanking them for their support following the death of her husband and metal legend Ozzy Osbourne, who died on July 22.

“I’m still having trouble finding the words to express how grateful I am for the overwhelming love and support you’ve shown on social media,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “Your comments, posts, and tributes have brought me more comfort than you know. None of it has gone unnoticed, in fact, it’s carried me through many nights.”

Sharon also revealed that she has formed a newfound connection with falconry, which her daughter Kelly Osbourne had introduced her to the day before. Alongside the post, Sharon shared a video of her and Kelly with the trained birds of prey. In one clip, an owl glides toward Sharon’s extended arm before gracefully perching on it.

“Though I’m still finding my footing, I wanted to share some glorious creatures I had the chance to spend an afternoon with. The connection you make with these powerful birds is built entirely on trust and confidence,” continued Sharon. “They’ll choose to perch on you only if they sense you are safe and unafraid of them. It’s a bond I know all too well, and the experience was nothing short of magical.”

She ended her note by writing, “I love you all, and I thank you deeply for the otherworldly amount of love you continue to send my way.”

Trending Stories

Earlier this month, Sharon and Ozzy’s son Jack Osbourne recounted his final week with his father in the first episode of his podcast since his passing. “After my dad’s show in Birmingham, I stuck around, hung out for a week with the family at the house with my kids, it was a really amazing week,” Jack said. “My dad was in an amazing mood. Every day, he was opening up the newspaper and seeing different reviews and different stories from the Back to the Beginning show, and it was great.”

Although Jack said his immediate reaction was a surge of “sadness and pain… so many thoughts,” he later said he was grateful for the timing of Ozzy’s death so soon after Black Sabbath‘s Back to the Beginning concert: “There is almost a perfection to it. He got to say goodbye in such a profound way.”

Sphere Stock Rides ‘Wizard of Oz’ to Gains, Up 46% in Last 4 Weeks

by jummy84 September 13, 2025
written by jummy84

Sphere Entertainment stock rose 19.3% to $58.33 this week, marking its fourth consecutive weekly gain and the largest improvement in that month-long run. Sphere shares have risen an astounding 46.3% in the last four weeks. The stock reached an all-time high of $58.71 on Friday (Sept. 12).

Sphere’s latest offering, a revamped The Wizard of Oz, has won over both audiences and Wall Street analysts. As Billboard noted on Wednesday (Sept. 10), numerous analysts have raised forecasts in the wake of a stellar debut and strong ticket sales. The $2.3 billion venue requires a high level of utilization to be profitable, meaning Sphere must squeeze in film showings when it’s not hosting sold-out concerts by the likes of Backstreet Boys and The Eagles. Early results suggest the revamped The Wizard of Oz, which cost upwards of $100 million, is performing better than Sphere’s two previous films, Postcards from Earth and V-U2.

The majority of music stocks ended the week in positive territory, mirroring gains elsewhere in the market as investors lifted stocks ahead of an expected interest rate cut by the U.S. Federal Reserve.

The week’s biggest gainer was music streamer LiveOne, which jumped 29.5% to $0.57. On Thursday (Sept. 11), LiveOne raised its fiscal 2026 adjusted EBITDA guidance to $4.5 million to $6 million on revenue of $55 million to $60 million. On Friday, the company announced that its Bitcoin holdings exceed $5 million.

Radio broadcaster and podcast company iHeartMedia rose 23.3% to finish the week at $2.59. iHeartMedia shares rose 9.2% on Friday after the company announced an expanded partnership and new long-term agreement with Bell Media in Canada. iHeartRadio Canada is a partnership between iHeartMedia and Bell Media, giving the American company distribution of its radio stations and podcast content in the neighbor to the north.

Live Nation shares rose 6.3% to $173.73 on Friday after reaching a new all-time high of $175.25 earlier in the day. The spike followed Citi’s hike of its Live Nation price target to $195 from $165 on Tuesday (Sept. 9). Also this week, CFRA raised its Live Nation price target by $26 to $196, citing “the outsized opportunity for live entertainment around the globe” and the company’s efforts to build arenas and theaters to capture market share.

Paramount Denounces Boycott of Israeli Film Institutions

by jummy84 September 12, 2025
written by jummy84

To date, over 4,000 actors, directors, and other members of the film and TV industry have signed a pledge to boycott any Israeli film institutions that were considered “complicit” with the “genocide and apartheid against the Palestinian people.” Now, Paramount has emerged as the first studio to speak out against the boycott.

Paramount chief communications officer Melissa Zukerman, in a statement published by Variety, said that “At Paramount, we believe in the power of storytelling to connect and inspire people, promote mutual understanding, and preserve the moments, ideas, and events that shape the world we share. This is our creative mission.”

The statement continues:

“We do not agree with recent efforts to boycott Israeli filmmakers. Silencing individual creative artists based on their nationality does not promote better understanding or advance the cause of peace. The global entertainment industry should be encouraging artists to tell their stories and share their ideas with audiences throughout the world. We need more engagement and communication — not less.”

Paramount’s decision to make this statement follows the studio completing its recent merger with David Ellison’s Skydance, which was only approved by the FCC after Paramount made certain concessions to the Trump administration regarding its news coverage. The White House has been largely supportive of Israel in recent months, though Trump did speak out against Israel’s recent military strike against Qatar.

Drake’s latest Iceman episode also yielded “Dog House” featuring Yeat and Julia Wolf, one of the teasers fans took a huge liking to.

The official release begins with Wolf singing a beautiful riff before transitioning to a rage beat. Drizzy has been exploring this sound over the years and has melded himself to it quite well, bouncing along with the chaotic production and dropping catchy one-liners along the way.

Yeat did his usual screamo type rap, producing one of their best collaboration of the three songs they have done together. “IDGAF” has been a big hit at their live shows, so perhaps “Dog House” will quickly join the mix. – Armon Sadler

Young Thug responded to all of the negativity coming his way with the seven-minute confessional “Man I Miss My Dogs.”

In it, he apologized to Mariah The Scientist for mistreating her, and Drake, Future, Metro Boomin, Cash, 21 Savage, Gucci Mane, and Lil Baby for talking badly about them in his leaked jail phone calls.

This is perhaps the most vulnerable Thugger has ever gotten, and for those who are fans of “We Should” and “We Ball,” they know that he is at his best when he is pouring his heart out over a beat as opposed to the standard rap flexes.

It had been hard to be excited for Uy Scuti these last few months, but “Man I Miss My Dogs” is a reminder of how exceptional Thug can be when he expresses himself through songs instead of tweets. – AS

  • Ice Cube – ‘Man Up’

After nearly four decades in the rap game, Ice Cube proves he’s still a force to be reckoned with on Man Up.

The album kicks off with the thunderous title track—a no-nonsense lyrical call to arms that sets the tone for Cube’s sharp, unapologetic commentary. “Freedumb” dives headfirst into the dangers of AI, social media, and algorithmic control, while “Act My Age” flips the script on ageism, bolstered by a standout verse from the ever-reliable Scarface.

Their chemistry also shines on “It’s My Ego” alongside Quake Matthews. From the gritty confidence of “Respect My Space” to his steadfast refusal to fold, Cube reminds us why he’s lasted this long: authenticity, fire, and a message that still matters. Man Up is veteran rap done right. – Preezy Brown

  • Polo G – “Shoot It Off”

Polo G has felt incredibly absent since ascending in 2020 and 2021. It is likely he won’t recapture that momentum, but “Shoot It Off” is a nice reminder of his rap mettle.

The beat is pretty basic, with a consistent drum pattern and beautiful strings in the background. The simple production allows his bars to take the forefront, and his assertive delivery was refreshing to hear. He is vulnerable, reflective, introspective, really everything people seek in “substantive” rap.

It’s hard to imagine this beat a hit, but it doesn’t feel like that was the intention here either. The two-minute track plays more like a stream of consciousness and display of his lyricism, and that is more than welcome. – AS

“Moneyfly” feels like a trap back to 2011. Juicy J, Rick Ross, LunchMoney Lewis, and MadMaxx created a time capsule record, falling between a car anthem and a stadium bop.

Juicy raps well, employing his signature vocals and cadence over an immersive beat. Rozay especially stands out here; though everyone loves his slower, luxury type flow, his trap beat delivery often gets overlooked. He recaptured the vibes of a “BMF” or “Tupac Back” on this record.

The best part of the song is the hook; it is simple, easily memorable, and has cool nuances scattered throughout. Shoutout to the rap veterans still doing this at a high level. – AS

  • TiaCorine Featuring JID – “Backyard”

TiaCorine and JID delivered an alternative rap-type record with “Backyard.” The BPM and certain sounds lean more toward rock, but don’t get it confused, they bring the bars in full force.

Tia reminded everyone why she burst onto the scene so hard a few years ago, attacking this beat with the precision of the Green Bay Packers defense. And JID, well, what is left to say? He can rap over any type of beat, fusing impressive wordplay with seamless flow switches and fun vocal inflections.

“Backyard” is equally polished and rough, allowing their emotion to come through but also impressing listeners with its arrangement. – AS

With MadRaps, Rapsody teams up with Madlib for a compact, two-track offering that feels both grounded and experimental—proof that she’s not only keeping pace with hip-hop’s evolution but also shaping it.

On “Daddy’s Girl,” she floats over Madlib’s mournful production, confronting misogyny in the industry with razor-sharp wit and a boldness that never panders. “Avon Thru The Wire” finds her bending vocal identity through AI voice modulation, cleverly exploring gender perception while keeping lyrical substance intact.

MadRaps is a daring, thought-provoking glimpse into Rapsody’s next chapter—short in length, rich in vision. – PB

Jermaine Dupri’s Magic City is a glitzy, bass-heavy tribute to the legendary Atlanta strip club, bringing together a stacked lineup of hometown heavyweights.

The opener, “Tryna Beat The Thrill” featuring Skooly, sets the tone with energy to spare, while tracks like “A** Shake” (Quavo, Ludacris) and “This or That” featuring the late Rich Homie Quan stand out as undeniable highlights.

Though the album’s momentum dips at times, the star power and cultural homage make Magic City worthy of a spin. – PB
