Can Olivia Rodrigo Save the Live Album?

by jummy84 September 14, 2025
written by jummy84

Last week, Olivia Rodrigo made a surprise announcement about her follow-up to Guts. But instead of another record of new material, Live at Glastonbury (A BBC Recording), to be released in December, will document her entire set at that festival this summer, complete with a cameo by the Robert Smith on covers of two Cure songs.

But here’s the even more startling thing about the announcement: She’s releasing … a live album? In 2025? Who does that anymore? In terms of big-league pop and rock artists, hardly anyone. But maybe it’s time for a comeback for records that lent a you-are-there listening experience and brought out aspects of a band or musician’s work you hadn’t heard in a recording studio.

You do remember live albums, right? If you’re on a certain generation, you may not, since not even Taylor Swift, very attuned to revenue streams, released a full concert album from the Eras Tour. Billie Eilish’s unplugged Live at Third Man Records, back in 2019, was a limited-edition vinyl release, which instantly designated it an underground item. But for decades, the concert LP was a staple of zillions of music-addicted households. No matter what genre you followed, one of them was surely in your record collection. Classic-rock buffs surely had copies of the Rolling Stones’ Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out! or the Who’s Live at Leeds. Soul fans probably owned James Brown’s Live at the Apollo, Otis Redding’s In Person at the Whisky a Go Go or Aretha Franklin’s Amazing Grace gospel foray. Metal fans swear by Deep Purple’s Made in Japan or Metallica’s Live Shit: Binge & Purge. For Southern rock, the Allman Brothers Band’s Live at Fillmore East or Lynyrd Skynyrd’s One More from the Road were must-cranks. And have we mentioned Woodstock? Or Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged?

In its heyday, which lasted a few decades, the live album served several equally valid purposes. In some cases — Cheap Trick’s At Budokan, Kiss’ Alive!, Peter Frampton’s Frampton Comes Alive!, and Bob Seger’s Live Bullet — it became the breakout moment for acts who’d been kicking around for a few years but hadn’t hit the big time. Why not gather all their best songs to date, tape ‘em in front of an excited fanbase, and give em another shot? Live records could also be a way of fulfilling a contractual obligation (too many examples to cite) or a way to mollify fans who were going to have to wait a while for another studio record (Fleetwood Mac’s 1980’s concert record, which bridged the gap between Tusk and Mirage).

Editor’s picks

This century, the live album hasn’t completely expired, but the market has been dominated by vintage material from the faults: the Grateful Dead’s ongoing barrage of rare live material, Bob Dylan box sets from various tours, and so on. Radiohead is finally getting around to releasing concert cuts, but from about 20 years ago. A few modern acts — Dua Lipa, the Weeknd, Florence + the Machine — have rolled out concert records in the last few years. But for all the firepower of their names, none has made the same impact as the classic concert albums of the past. Those records are now asides and ephemera, not events.

The reasons for the collapse of the live album won’t be music to anyone’s ears. Thanks to YouTube (where you can watch or listen to entire shows for free) or sites that allow you to stream or download shows, maybe fans don’t feel they need to shell out dollars for an official release. If we want to be deeply cynical for a moment, perhaps some of them suspect that a certain amount of pre-recorded vocals or instruments are a normal part of the concert experience and assume that a “live” album wouldn’t be all that authentic.

Trending Stories

After all, part of the appeal of the concert albums of yore was hearing what singers or bands would sound like outside the controlled confines of a recording studio. You knew you wouldn’t be hearing note-for-note reproductions of what you’d heard on vinyl or CD, which was part of the thrill and sometimes the dismay. Led Zeppelin, so volcanic on record, came off as disappointingly scraggly on The Song Remains the Same. Dylan & The Dead seemed to bring out the worst in both. (Search out the rehearsal tapes instead.) But who knew that the Roots would take Jay-Z’s music to another level on his MTV Unplugged or that orchestration would impart a new sense of opulence to Dua Lipa’s Live from the Royal Albert Hall last year?

Related Content

For Dua Lipa and now Rodrigo, concert records are a logical extension of their place in the pop firmament. Acts like them, after all, are the ones headlining arenas and festivals the way rock bands once did when they were in their primes. As many of us saw last year on her Guts tour, Rodrigo’s shows were joyfully alive, and with the help of her road band, some of her songs (“All-American Bitch,” for one) sported a spikier, looser energy than the studio versions. Will that translate to her Glastonbury performance heard only in audio? Too soon to tell, but give her props for wading into the concert album waters. After too long a decline, someone needs to make the storied, necessary art of the live album alive again.

Sharon Osbourne Breaks Silence After Ozzy Osbourne’s Death

by jummy84 September 14, 2025
written by jummy84

Sharon Osbourne is “still having trouble finding the words” after Ozzy Osbourne’s death earlier this summer.

On Friday (Sept. 12), the 72-year-old wife and longtime manager of the Black Sabbath frontman — who passed away on July 22 at age 76 — spoke out on social media for the first time since his passing, opening up about her grief and the outpouring of support she has received.

“I’m still having trouble finding the words to express how grateful I am for the overwhelming love and support you’ve shown on social media,” the British TV personality wrote alongside an Instagram video featuring herself and daughter Kelly at a falconry in England.

“Your comments, posts, and tributes have brought me more comfort than you know,” she continued. “None of it has gone unnoticed, in fact, it’s carried me through many nights. Though I’m still finding my footing, I wanted to share some glorious creatures I had the chance to spend an afternoon with.”

Sharon went on to describe the emotional connection she felt during the experience.

“The connection you make with these powerful birds is built entirely on trust and confidence,” she wrote. “They’ll choose to perch on you only if they sense you are safe and unafraid of them. It’s a bond I know all too well, and the experience was nothing short of magical.”

Osbroune concluded her message with a heartfelt note of gratitude. “I love you all, and I thank you deeply for the otherworldly amount of love you continue to send my way,” she wrote.

The video montage showed Sharon and Kelly interacting with exotic birds at Cornwall Falconry in England. In one clip, a falcon swoops down onto Sharon’s gloved hand to feed, while Kelly looks on with a smile. Another shows a white owl landing on Sharon’s arm in slow motion. In another moment, Sharon is seen gently petting a bird, followed by a playful scene where another bird perches atop Kelly’s winter hat.

Days earlier, Kelly shared the same video on her own Instagram account, writing, “Today I introduced my mum to falconry and she loved it! Thank you @gerardsulter for putting a smile on my mum’s face too!”

Sharon’s post marks her first public statement since Ozzy’s death. Her previous Instagram post was a photo taken with Andrew Watt and Slash at Black Sabbath’s farewell concert in early July. Ozzy died just weeks after performing his final live show in Birmingham, England. His family confirmed the news in a joint statement at the time.

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” they wrote. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

Young Thug Apologizes To Mariah The Scientist In “I Miss My Dogs” Song

by jummy84 September 14, 2025
written by jummy84

Young Thug is now baring his soul and apologizing to those he hurt in his newest song “I Miss My Dogs,” just days after leaked jail calls surfaced online.

The Atlanta rapper released his new single on Thursday (Sep. 11) clearing up some of the remarks he made while on the phone, and delivered a heartfelt apology. The emotional record, shared alongside a video and lyrics posted to Instagram, hears Thugger addressing infidelity, loyalty, fractured friendships, while taking full accountability for his mistakes.

One of the most poignant moments comes when he directs his lyrics to his longtime girlfriend, Mariah the Scientist. “Baby, I’m sorry/ One of my biggest fears is losing you to the internet,” he raps. “Waking up in our bed with you right by my neck… pillow talking ain’t my name/ Baby, I love you/ I know you see this rain, I know you feel my pain.”

Later, he admits to his role in the hurt he’s caused her, confessing, “I’m sorry for being a part of these ho*s laughing at you… I’m the reason you crashing.”

He also addressed his strained friendship with Lil Baby, who he says hasn’t been “answering his calls,” while showing love to Drake for holding him down. “Drizzy, you my brother/ You know I ain’t going against you/ Came to visit me at Cobb County like my kin do,” he raps. He even mentioned his attempt to reconcile Metro Boomin and Future with Drake, saying, “Trying to get you, Metro, and Pluto on the same page/ The internet don’t know about it because real ni**as don’t say, real ni**as do.”

Listen below.

The 34-year-old didn’t mention GloRilla in the “I Miss My Dogs” rap, even though one leaked call surfaced with him calling Glo “ugly as f**k.” The YSL pioneer had already took to X to apologize. “First of all I’m sorry to u for my words and I honestly don’t think ur ugly at all… I was speaking from jail just having a hard time with life. I don’t like bashing girls and hardly ever did.. I’m sorry to u twin,” he wrote.

GloRilla, however, doesn’t seem to be accepting his apology at the moment. The Memphis rapper allegedly dropped a track of her own called “Looking A** Ni**a” where she roasted Thug and his girlfriend. In one bar she calls him a “tootsie roll with dreds” and Mariah The Scientist, “Tweety Bird.”

Listen to the snippet below.

Despite all of the controversy, Young Thug announced on Instagram that his highly anticipated album UY SCUTI will arrive on Sept. 19.

Pink Floyd Announce Wish You Were Here 50th Anniversary Reissue, Share “Welcome to the Machine” Demo: Listen

by jummy84 September 14, 2025
written by jummy84

Pink Floyd are reissuing their classic 1975 album, Wish You Were Here, for its 50th anniversary. Wish You Were Here 50 is out December 12 via Sony Music Entertainment. The expanded edition will be available in 3xLP and 2xCD formats featuring alternate mixes and demos, or as a box set that also includes a fourth LP of live material recorded at Wembley Stadium and a Blu-ray that gathers three concert films from Pink Floyd’s 1975 tour and a short film by graphic designer Storm Thorgerson. Listen to “The Machine Song (Demo #2, Revisited),” a demo of “Welcome to the Machine,” below.

“In the 1970s, album covers were equally as important as the music, because the cover helped to sell the record,” Aubrey Powell, who co-founded the UK design collective Hipgnosis and designed the Wish You Were Here cover alongside Thorgerson, said in a statement. “Record stores would carry 10,000 different images in album sleeves, so what we were doing had to look different and stand out amongst the crowd. I remember turning around to Storm and saying, ‘How are we going to set a man on fire?’ Because there was no digital way of doing it in those days. He said, ‘Po, you’re just going to have to do it for real.’”

Wish You Were Here was in large part a tribute to Syd Barrett, Pink Floyd’s co-founder and original vocalist, who had left the band seven years prior due to his deteriorating mental health. Roger Waters and David Gilmour shared lead vocals on the album. Waters handled both halves of the 25-minute epic “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” while Gilmour sang “Welcome to the Machine” and “Wish You Were Here.” “Have a Cigar” was an exception: The band recruited folk songwriter Roy Harper to perform the song.

Revisit Sam Sodomsky’s Sunday Review of Wish You Were Here, and read about the album’s title track at No. 39 in “The 200 Best Songs of the 1970s.”

Watch Foo Fighters play surprise first gig with their new drummer

by jummy84 September 14, 2025
written by jummy84

Foo Fighters played their first gig with their new drummer, after a year away. See the footage below.

  • READ MORE: Foo Fighters live in Manchester: invincible and still untouchable

The band returned for their first show since 2024 last night (September 14), with a small gig at the 900-capacity Fremont Theater in San Luis Obispo, California.

They announced the gig only one day before they took to the stage, telling fans on social media that tickets were only available in-person at the venue’s box office from 8am the day of the show.

It marked their first gig since drummer Josh Freese announced that he had departed the Foos after they “decided to go in a different direction with their drummer”. Freese stepped in as a touring drummer back in 2023, following the death of Taylor Hawkins.

The group then reportedly enlisted Ilan Rubin – essentially swapping with Nine Inch Nails for their ex-touring drummer Freese.

Now, Dave Grohl has officially confirmed Rubin’s place in the band, telling the crowd: “Everybody else has said it, I finally get the opportunity to say, ladies and gentlemen, will you please welcome, the most badass motherfucker, Ilan Rubin, is playing drums in the Foo Fighters. It’s official.”

After the show, the Foos also updated their Facebook profile picture with an image of them with Rubin. Check out footage from the gig, and the full setlist, below.

Foo Fighters’ setlist was:

‘All My Life’
‘Rope’
‘Have It All’
‘Times Like These’
‘Wattershed’
‘Stacked Actors’
‘La Dee Da’
‘These Days’
‘The Pretender’
‘Walk’
‘My Hero’
‘Learn to Fly’
‘Rescued’
‘Aurora’
‘This Is a Cal’
‘No Son of Mine’
‘Shame Shame’
‘White Limo’
‘Winnebago’
(Late! cover)
‘Best of You’
‘Alone + Easy Target’

‘Low’
‘Monkey Wrench’
‘Exhausted’
‘Everlong’

It comes after the band seemingly began the rollout of their next era earlier this month, by posting a shot of the six-piece band’s legs and feet standing together in a circle.

“Foo Fighters Assemble!!!” they captioned the snap. They then hinted at an imminent announcement, writing: “Make sure you’re subscribed to the newsletter for info you won’t want to miss… just sayin’…” Sign up here.

The band’s 11th and latest album, ‘But Here We Are’, was released in 2023. It marked their first material since the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins the previous year, and saw them enlist Josh Freese as a touring sticksman.

This July, Dave Grohl and co. marked their 30th anniversary by sharing a new single called ‘Today’s Song’.

Their gig last night marks their first this year, ahead of more shows scheduled in Indonesia, Japan, Singapore and Mexico next month and into November – suggesting new material could emerge soon.

They reportedly cancelled some European dates for 2025 last December, following the news that Grohl had “recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of [his] marriage”.

Freese recently addressed his sacking from Foo Fighters, explaining: “Looking back, it was probably more an issue with their management.” However, the drummer said the Foos’ material “wasn’t music that I really resonated with”.

Upon sharing ‘Today’s Song’, Grohl thanked every former member of the band for their contributions throughout the years. He praised “the thunderous wizardry of Josh Freese”, and said Hawkins was “still in everything we do, everywhere we go, forever”.

Zach Bryan Appears to Confront Gavin Adcock at Born and Raised Fest

Zach Bryan Appears to Confront Gavin Adcock at Born and Raised Fest

by jummy84 September 14, 2025
written by jummy84

Zach Bryan was a surprise guest at this weekend’s Born & Raised Festival in Pryor, Oklahoma, popping up on Saturday to sing with Gabriella Rose during her afternoon set. But Bryan also seems to have seized the opportunity to confront Gavin Adcock, a Georgia country singer who has criticized Bryan and was scheduled to perform that same day.

In a video posted online, Bryan appears to scale a barbed-wire fence backstage and charge at a figure that appears to be Adcock, dressed in a vest and hat, before a security guard holds Bryan back. Adcock is seen pointing at Bryan as he descends the fence and lunges in Adcock’s direction. Reps for Bryan and Adcock did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone’s requests for comment.

“If they open up this fucking gate, I’ll fucking kill you,” Bryan appears to say in another video posted to Instagram. “I got a show to play, you clown son of a bitch,” Adcock seems to goad him, suggesting the encounter happened prior to Adcock’s performance.

Bryan’s beef with Adcock began back in July, when Adcock called out the “Something in the Orange” singer-songwriter for the way Bryan responded to a teenage fan on social media who lamented waiting in vain for Bryan to sign an autograph following a performance at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. “You’re not entitled after someone plays two and a half hours to a picture or a hello,” Bryan wrote.

In an appearance on Rolling Stone’s Nashville Now podcast, Adcock accused Bryan of pretending to be something he’s not. “I think that Zach Bryan puts on a big mask in his day-to-day life and sometimes he can’t help but rip it off and show his true colors,” Adcock said. “I don’t know if Zach Bryan’s really that great of a person.”

Adcock hasn’t been shy about courting controversy. For the past few weeks, he’s been embroiled in a back-and-forth feud with cowboy singer Charley Crockett. During a concert appearance this month with Morgan Wallen, Adcock joined Wallen onstage and held up a T-shirt that appeared to feature Crockett’s photo. In a clip circulating online, Wallen flips off the shirt with a pair of middle fingers.

Editor’s picks

In June, Adcock also made headlines for declaring that Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter album didn’t meet his definition of country music. “That shit ain’t country music,” he said onstage, going on to elaborate during his Nashville Now interview.

Trending Stories

Bryan has also been in his share of drama, sending volleys back and forth with his ex, Brianna LaPaglia, and also squaring off with fellow Oklahoma singer-songwriter John Moreland. Bryan removed the song he and Moreland recorded together, “Memphis; the Blues,” from all streaming services after Moreland raised an eyebrow at Bryan’s reported $350 million publishing deal.

Sharing a screenshot of Moreland’s original post, Bryan responded: “Yooo just saw this from an artist I’ve always respected and supported. Not trying to be dramatic, but refuse to have anyone with a problem with me on my records.”

Ariana Grande Addresses Concert Ticket Resellers: ‘It’s Not Right’

by jummy84 September 14, 2025

Ariana Grande has released a statement to fans regarding concert ticket resellers after the North American dates of her 2026 Eternal Sunshine Tour went on sale, and quickly sold out, earlier this week on Ticketmaster. Though face value tickets are not currently available, ticket inventory can be found at inflated prices on the resale market– on Ticketmaster and on platforms including StubHub, TickPick, SeatGeek and more.

The singer posted an Instagram Story addressing the situation on Saturday (Sept. 13).

“hi my angels, i have been on set all week but i wanted to let you know that what’s been happening with the secondary ticket resellers has been brought to my attention and of course i am incredibly bothered by it,” Grande wrote in her message.

She continued, “i’ve been on the phone every second of my free time fighting for a solution. i hear you and hopefully, we will be able to get more of these tickets into your hands instead of theirs. it’s not right.”

“i just wanted you to know that my team and i see it and that i care very much and we will do, and are doing, everything we can. i love you so much and thank you for your patience and understanding,” Grande said.

The Eternal Sunshine Tour, with 36 dates scheduled for summer 2026 in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, begins on June 6, 2026 in Oakland, Calif. It runs through Aug. 6, wrapping in London, England. Grande, touring in support of her seventh studio album — the Billboard 200 chart topper Eternal Sunshine — announced initial dates in late August and added to the itinerary in September.

2025 Emmy Awards Winners Revealed [Updating Live]

by jummy84 September 14, 2025
written by jummy84

The contenders at the 2025 Emmy Awards include some of this year’s greatest TV achievements, from the jaw-dropping power of Adolescence’s single takes to the continued hilarity of HBO Max’s Hacks. The other nominees this year also represent some wild successful swings from the major networks and streamers, with the winning shows to be revealed Sunday night on CBS.

In the Outstanding Comedy category, alums like Abbott Elementary, The Bear, and Only Murders in the Building are joined by first-time nominees Shrinking, The Studio, and Nobody Wants This. Also in the running for the last time is FX’s acclaimed What We Do in the Shadows, but unfortunately it feels unlikely the vampire comedy will take the top prize for its final season.

Competing for the Outstanding Drama Series award are a particularly grim collection of series, including end-of-the-world dramas The Last of Us, Paradise, and Andor (if you count what happened to Ghor). The shows based in our reality aren’t much more upbeat, considering the politics of The Diplomat, the medical gore of The Pitt, the spycraft of Slow Horses, and the sociopaths of The White Lotus. At least this last season of Severance had a kinda happy ending?

In 2024, Netflix had a runaway awards hit on its hands with Baby Reindeer, and for the second year in a row it looks like it’ll dominate the limited series categories again thanks to another British drama, the four-episode Adolescence. It does face some significant competition though, including the most recent season of past Emmy winner Black Mirror, the latest installment of Netflix’s Monster series, HBO’s dark The Batman spinoff The Penguin, and the acclaimed Michelle Williams-starring dramedy Dying for Sex.

Nate Bargatze (Consequence’s Comedian of the Year in 2023) will host the 2025 Emmy Awards on September 14th, airing on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT. Charlie Kirk Shooting Suspect Is In Custody After Family Turned Him In

Charlie Kirk was killed earlier this week during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University, and law enforcement officials now have a suspect in custody. Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old Utah resident, was arrested after he was turned in by family members. Officials say he was not a student at the university.

“We have the person that we think is the person we’re looking for, but they drove into the police headquarters, and he’s there now,” Trump said on on Fox & Friends Friday morning (Sept. 12). “I think with a high-degree of certainty, we have him,” before adding that, “essentially, someone who knew him turned him in.”

NBC reported a family member saw the photos of the suspect and turned Robinson into police. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was contacted with information that Robinson “had either confessed or implied that he had carried out Wednesday’s shooting.”

In the hours after the shooting, the FBI stepped in an requested tips from the public. The assassination was caught on camera and shows Kirk sitting under a tent debating with students before a single shot rang out and struck him in the neck. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Other angles that surfaced showed a figure in dark clothing running across a rooftop opposite the event.

A member of Robinson’s family who was interviewed by investigators said the suspect had become “more political” in recent years. Also per the outlet, his roommate showed investigators various Discord messages from Robinson, including ones that said he “needed to get a rifle from a drop point” and another about leaving that rifle “in a bush.”

Yesterday (Sept. 11), a rifle that was wrapped in a towel was found by officials, and there were also Discord messages that referenced the spot where it was found and the towel. Cox confirmed that inscriptions were found on the bullet casings belonging to Robinson. On some of the casings, engraved writings read “Hey fascists! Catch!” with an up arrow, a right arrow and three down arrows; “Oh bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao”; and “If you read this, you are gay LMAO.”

Vice President JD Vance, who was a close friend of Kirk’s, credits him with playing a key role success of Trump’s presidential victory. Kirk co-founded Turning Point USA, a nonprofit organization that aims to “advocate for conservative politics on high school, college, and university campuses.” Kirk has risen in popularity over the years for his extremely polarizing takes, which resulted in a heavy split among reactions to his passing.
