ASAP Rocky Criticizes Drake For UMG Lawsuit Over “Not Like Us”

A$AP Rocky is weighing in on the latest development in the ongoing fallout between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, particularly Drake’s surprising legal maneuver against Universal Music Group over Lamar’s chart-topping diss track, “Not Like Us.”

The Harlem rapper, whose cover story in ELLE was published Tuesday (Sept. 23), reflected on the lyrical clash that dominated spring 2024, producing standout tracks like Kendrick’s “Euphoria” and Drake’s fiery rebuttal “Family Matters,” which included digs at Rocky himself.

Still, Rocky chose not to jump into the fray.

“It was healthy for Hip-Hop,” A$AP said of the rivalry, noting that the duel reinvigorated rap’s competitive spirit. “The battle was between Kendrick and Drake, not Drake and everybody else who might have said something at that time. And that’s mainly why I fell back.”

But Rocky admitted his respect for the battle soured once Drake chose to take legal action over “Not Like Us,” a diss that went from a viral anthem to a cultural juggernaut, dominating charts and airwaves.

“I just hate the way it’s turning out with [Drake] suing and all that,” Rocky said. “What part of the game is that? What type of sh*t is that? That’s none of my business, I guess.”

Rocky’s critique carries an added weight considering his complicated history with Drake. Once collaborators and tourmates, their relationship has since fractured, reportedly accelerated by Rocky’s romance with Rihanna.

Drake and Rihanna’s on-again-off-again relationship had long been a fixture in pop culture, punctuated by musical hits like “Work” and “What’s My Name.”

But by 2018, Rihanna told Vogue that the two no longer maintained a friendship, citing the fallout from Drake’s public profession of love at the 2016 MTV VMAs.

“Waiting through that speech was probably the most uncomfortable part. I don’t like too many compliments; I don’t like to be put on blast,” she said at the time. “We don’t have a friendship now, but we’re not enemies either. It is what it is.”

Now, Rocky and Rihanna are partners and parents to two children, RZA and Riot, with hopes for more in the near future. RiRi is currently pregnant with their third.

Watch Jimmy Kimmel Address Suspension, Sarah McLachlan Perform on Kimmel

by jummy84 September 24, 2025
written by jummy84

Addressing his current relationship with the network, Kimmel said “we talked it through, and at the end, even though they didn’t have to…they welcomed me back on the air. Unfortunately and, I think, unjustly, this puts them at risk. The President of the United States made it very clear he wants to see me and the hundreds of people who work here fired from our jobs.” He concluded his monologue by discussing the speech given by Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, during a memorial service organized by Turning Point USA, the conservative organization he co-founded: “On Sunday, Erika Kirk forgave the man who shot her husband. That is an example we should follow. If you believe in the teachings of Jesus, as I do, there it was. That’s it. A selfless act of grace, forgiveness from a grieving widow. It touched me deeply. It touches many, and if there’s anything we should take from this tragedy to carry forward, it should be that, and not this.”

Notably, this evening’s episode of Kimmel did not air on all ABC stations nationwide. The TV station groups Sinclair and Nexstar, which together control over 20 percent of the network’s local affiliates, had previously announced that they would pre-empt the show indefinitely on their programming schedules. Nexstar is currently trying to close a $6.2 billion merger with a rival TV company that will require FCC approval.

Sarah McLachlan was the musical guest on Kimmel tonight. She performed a solo piano rendition of the title track from Better Broken, her forthcoming first album in seven years. McLachlan recently cancelled her scheduled performance at the premiere event for Disney+’s Lilith Fair: Building a Mystery documentary, which took place on Sunday, September 21, “in support of free speech.” Watch her sing “Better Broken” below as well.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Sued by Stylist Who Testified Against Him

by jummy84 September 24, 2025
written by jummy84

Four months after testifying at Sean Combs’ criminal trial in New York, celebrity stylist Deonte Nash has filed a lawsuit alleging that the music mogul trapped him in a “dark world” of repeated sexual battery, physical assault, stalking, and threats that turned his childhood dream of working in the entertainment industry into “a nightmare.”

In a complaint filed Wednesday in Los Angeles, Nash claims Combs pinched his nipples, groped his buttocks, grinded on his groin, and once forced his hand onto Combs’ penis while Nash worked for Combs and his former girlfriend, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura between 2008 and 2018.

Echoing his testimony from the third week of Combs’ New York trial, Nash says Combs also subjected him to violent physical assaults. He claims Combs became enraged and “severely strangled” him in 2013 when he tried to stop Combs from beating Ventura bloody inside her apartment. Nash says when he tried to call the police, Combs intervened, causing him to “imminently fear for his life.” In another incident in 2013 or 2014, Combs allegedly drove to a set where Ventura was filming a music video and attacked Nash again, fuming over his discovery that Nash and Ventura had gone out to dinner the night before. Combs “threw [Nash] up onto the car and violently strangled him,” the lawsuit says. (In his testimony, Nash told jurors he was smoking a cigarette when Combs appeared out of nowhere and “started choking me out.”)

Nash claims threats, intimidation, and “psychological manipulation” were pervasive during his tenure as well. He says once in 2014, Combs grabbed and slapped him in the back of his head as a frightened Ventura tried to escape another “outburst” by climbing out a window. He says Combs and a driver then chased him on a freeway, pursuing him at nearly 100 mph, leaving him “terrified.” He alleges Combs “bragged about violently retaliating against people that had turned against him,” and that Combs’ employees “knew” their boss had “guns and weapons around.”

Editor’s picks

“After enduring years of abuse, I finally found the courage during the criminal trial, and I am now ready to take action,” Nash said in a statement shared with Rolling Stone. “Sean Combs has never taken accountability for the years of harm he inflicted on me and so many others. Today, I am free from the confinement his abuse imposed, and I have reclaimed my voice. It is time for the world to confront the truth about the horrific abuse I endured and the lasting impact of Mr. Combs’ actions on my life. His abuse has consistently affected every part of my life, from my personal well-being to my career, and the damage cannot be ignored. I am reclaiming my story and demanding the justice I deserve.”

Attempts to reach a spokesperson for Combs were not immediately successful early Wednesday. He and his lawyers previously denied allegations of sexual misconduct in an onslaught of prior lawsuits, saying, “Mr. Combs never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone — man or woman, adult or minor.”

Nash says in the new lawsuit that he was too afraid to step forward before he was “forced” to testify at Combs’ trial through a subpoena. During two days of testimony, the fashion stylist walked jurors through the dramatic incident at Ventura’s apartment in 2013. He said Combs went on a rampage as Nash was helping Ventura pack for a trip. In her own testimony, Ventura said Combs berated her for sleeping too long and hurled her into the corner of her bedframe, causing a “pretty significant gash” near her eyebrow that bled profusely and required stitches.

Nash testified that Combs was so out of control that day, he jumped on the Bad Boy Entertainment founder’s back to stop him. “He threw me off,” Nash testified. “[He] continued to hit Cassie until her head hit the edge of the bed frame. … When he noticed the blood, he just panicked.”

At his trial, Combs, 55, was convicted of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution but acquitted of the more serious charges of felony racketeering and the alleged sex trafficking of Ventura and another ex-girlfriend who testified under a pseudonym. His defense lawyer, Mark Agnifilo, said during his closing argument that Combs took responsibility for the allegations of domestic violence raised by Ventura. “We own it. It happened,” Agnifilo told the panel on June 27. “If he was charged with domestic violence, we wouldn’t all be here having a trial, because he would have pled guilty – because he did that.”

Nash’s lawsuit expands beyond his trial testimony to give detailed accounts of the instances where Combs allegedly sexually assaulted or battered him. He claims Combs exposed his penis and approached him during a party in 2013 or 2014, and then, about a year later, pinched his nipples without consent after cornering him in a bathroom in Las Vegas. He alleges that another time in August 2016, Combs “forcibly” grabbed his hand and forced it onto the mogul’s penis while Combs was wearing only underwear and laughing. When Nash tried to walk away, he says, Combs grabbed his buttocks and stuck his tongue out in a sexual manner.

Combs purportedly grabbed Nash’s buttocks again during a Bad Boy Reunion Tour party in Los Angeles in 2017, saying, “You need to be out there slangin’ that dick baby,” according to the lawsuit. “Mr. Nash jumped and was in shock because he felt Combs’ fingers squeeze his butt,” the filing states. Nash claims that in 2018, during a fitting with Ventura at a townhouse in New York City, Combs “grinded” on Nash’s genital area in a sexually charged way. “This is how I make love to my lady,” Combs allegedly said at the time, leaving Nash feeling “violated and offended.”

“Combs sexually assaulted Mr. Nash in this manner over and over for more than a decade,” the lawsuit filed by lawyers Brett Schreiber, Meagan Verschueren, Katie Llamas, and Kristina Aiad-Toss alleges. The lawsuit claims Combs was “obsessed” with Nash’s homosexuality, bringing it up constantly. “Degrading comments about Mr. Nash’s homosexuality were a way Combs manipulated and controlled him,” it states. “He used it as a sword in [an] attempt to demean or belittle Mr. Nash as if being gay was something that Mr. Nash should be ashamed of – or that Mr. Nash was inferior because Mr. Nash did not conceal his sexuality.”

The lawsuit lists claims for human trafficking, assault, battery, sexual battery, negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent infliction of emotional distress, false imprisonment, gender violence, sexual orientation violence, and destructive discharge, meaning Combs allegedly created such toxic working conditions that Nash was forced to resign. It names several of Combs’ companies, including Bad Boy Entertainment and Combs Global, as co-defendants.

“Combs used his power and threats of harm to compel Mr. Nash to do his bidding and prevent him from leaving defendants’ control. Even after his employment ended, threats continued, and Mr. Nash has not felt safe, even to this day,” the lawsuit states. “Though defendants have silenced him for years, Mr. Nash is no longer willing to give in to this fear for his life and is now standing up to demand justice.”

Combs is currently in federal custody in New York, awaiting his sentencing on Oct. 3. He’s also facing dozens of civil lawsuits alleging sexual misconduct, though Combs has challenged many as being too old for the courts to bother considering their merits.

Trending Stories

In a recent ruling, a federal judge permanently dismissed 21 of the 22 causes of action brought by Making the Band 2 contestant Sara Rivers in a lengthy $60 million racketeering lawsuit filed in February. The judge signaled he also planned to dismiss the final remaining cause of action alleging Combs sexually assaulted Rivers at his recording studio in the early aughts, but he’s waiting for an appeals court decision on whether the claim-revival window opened under New York City’s Gender Motivated Violence Protection Act was legally allowed to remain open after New York’s Adult Survivors Act, a statewide statute, closed its window for otherwise time-barred sexual misconduct claims.

Rivers is appealing the judge’s decision.

Spotify Integrates Into Serato DJ Software Platform

by jummy84 September 24, 2025

Spotify is now integrated into DJ software platform Serato.

This new deal will allow DJs who use Serato software to access the entirety of Spotify’s 100 million-plus song catalog, including personal playlists and liked songs, in their Serato DJ library, making it possible to stream and mix music from the DSP in real-time.

Related

The integration is available now on Serato DJ Pro and Serato DJ Lite and will support play on up to four decks simultaneously. Users can access the feature by linking their Serato and Spotify Premium accounts. Newly built Spotify playlists will also appear directly within a linked Serato DJ library.

A representative for Serato says the feature has been the longstanding New Zealand-based software company’s most requested addition in its 26-year history.

The announcement continues a trend of streamers integrating with DJ technology. In March, Apple Music unveiled DJ With Apple Music, an integration that makes it possible for DJs to build and mix sets directly from the DSP’s catalog of over 100 million songs. The technology was made in partnership with DJ software and hardware platforms Serato, AlphaTheta, and inMusic’s Engine DJ, Denon DJ, Numark and RANE DJ.

In August, Spotify released Mix With Spotify, a feature that makes it possible for users to blend songs within a playlist like a professional DJ. Mix With Spotify provides controls like echo, volume automation, EQ, and low and high pass filters for users of the Spotify Premium app.

The recently launched start-ups Hook and Mash-App also make it possible for users to mash up, speed up and slow down songs in their libraries.

Jimmy Kimmel Gives Emotional, Resolute Monologue in First Show Back from Suspension

by jummy84 September 24, 2025
written by jummy84

Jimmy Kimmel returned to the air Tuesday night, five days after his late-night show was unexpectedly pulled by Disney amid FCC pressure over comments he made surrounding comments regarding Charlie Kirk’s murder. Many—including Kimmel himself—believed that his comments were misconstrued and that the FCC used the episode as an opportunity to exert undue influence over ABC affiliates, effectively silencing one of Donald Trump’s most prominent critics.

“I’m not sure who had a weirder 48 hours: me or the CEO of Tylenol,” Kimmel said to kick off his opening monologue.

Kimmel began by thanking fans, as well as the conservatives who supported him, including Ben Shapiro, Mitch McConnell, Ted Cruz, and Joe Rogan. “Even though I don’t agree with many of those people on most subjects — some of the things they say even make me want to throw up — it takes courage for them to speak out against this administration, and they did, and they deserve credit for it. Our government cannot be allowed to control what we do and do not say on television.”

From there, Kimmel directly addressed his comments regarding Charlie Kirk. “It was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man,” he said through tears. “I don’t think there’s anything funny about it. I posted a message on Instagram of the day he was killed, sending love to his family and asking for compassion, and I meant it. I still do. Nor was it my intention to blame any specific group for the actions of what it was obviously a deeply disturbed individual. That was really the opposite of the point I was trying to make, but I understand that to some that felt either ill-timed or unclear, or maybe both, and for those who think I did point a finger, I get why you’re upset. If the situation was reversed, there’s a good chance I’d have felt the same way.”

Related Video

“I have many friends and family members on the other side who I love and remain close to even though we don’t agree on politics at all. I don’t think the murderer who shot Charlie Kirk represents anyone,” Kimmel continued. “This was a sick person, who believes violence was a solution, and it isn’t — ever.”

Kimmel also praised Kirk’s wife, Erika: “Erika Kirk forgave the man who shot her husband. She forgave him. That is an example we should follow. If you believe in the teachings of Jesus, as I do, there it was. That’s it. A selfless act of grace, forgiveness from a grieving widow.”

“It touched me deeply,” Kimmel added. “I hope it touches many, and if there’s anything we should take from this tragedy to carry forward, I hope it can be that and not this.”

Ultimately, Kimmel concluded: “I don’t want to make this about me. This show is not important. What is important is that we get to live in a country that allows us to have a show like this. I’ve had the opportunity to and spend time with comedians and talk show hosts from countries like Russia, countries in the Middle East who tell me they would get thrown in prison for making fun of those in power. And worse than being thrown in prison, they know how lucky we are here. Our freedom to speak is what they admire most about this country. And that’s something I’m embarrassed to say I took for granted until they pulled my friend Stephen [Colbert] off the air and tried to coerce the affiliates who run our show in the cities that you live in to take my show off the air. That’s not legal. That’s not American. That is unAmerican.”

He proceeded to use the latter part of his monologue to go after Trump and FCC chairman, Brendan Carr, for their attempts to stifle free speech. “Should the government be allowed to regulate which podcasts the cell phone companies and Wi-Fi providers are allowed to let you download to make sure they serve the public interest?” Kimmel asked. “You think that sounds crazy? 10 years ago, this sounded crazy: Brendan Carr, the chairman of the FCC, telling an American company, “We can do this the easy way or the hard way, and that these companies can find ways to change conduct and take action on Kimmel or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.” In addition to being a direct violation of the First Amendment, is not a particularly intelligent threat to make in public. Ted Cruz said he sounded like a mafioso… This genius said it on a podcast. Brendan Carr is the most embarrassing car Republicans have embraced since this one,” Kimmel joked he displayed a photo of a Tesla Cybertruck with Trump’s name painted on it.”

Then hitting Trump directly, Kimmel quipped, “He tried his best to cancel me. Instead he forced millions of people to watch the show. That backfired bigly. He might have to release the Epstein files to distract us from this now.”

To further his point, Kimmel closed his monologue with a bit featuring Robert De Niro playing the FCC’s new chairman/mob boss.

For his part, Trump is threatening legal action against ABC. In a Truth Social post shared ahead of Kimmel’s first episode back, Trump wrote:

“I can’t believe ABC Fake News gave Jimmy Kimmel his job back,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. “The White House was told by ABC that his Show was cancelled! Something happened between then and now because his audience is GONE, and his ‘talent’ was never there.”

“Why would they want someone back who does so poorly, who’s not funny, and who puts the Network in jeopardy by playing 99% positive Democrat GARBAGE. He is yet another arm of the DNC and, to the best of my knowledge, that would be a major Illegal Campaign Contribution. I think we’re going to test ABC out on this. Let’s see how we do. Last time I went after them, they gave me $16 Million Dollars. This one sounds even more lucrative. A true bunch of losers! Let Jimmy Kimmel rot in his bad Ratings.”

October London Is Reviving Death Row’s Original Multigenre Vision

by jummy84 September 24, 2025
written by jummy84

South Bend, Indiana-born singer-songwriter October London might be the closest we’ve come to seeing the full aspiration of the original Death Row Records, founded in 1991 by The D.O.C., Dr. Dre, Suge Knight, Dick Griffey, and Harry-O. For all the legendary rappers—2Pac, Snoop, and the heat that trailed them—Death Row was always reaching for something bigger: a multigenre home where The Lady of Rage’s lyricism stood shoulder to shoulder with Danny Boy’s crooning, and where mighty movie soundtracks like Above the Rim and even a Christmas album with a gangsta twist were all part of the culture.

A Grammy-winning singer and Snoop protege, October blends vintage soul, modern R&B, and now even country under his “Sam Nash” alter ego. It’s a throwback to old-school storytelling with a contemporary twist and it’s happening under the banner of a label still synonymous with West Coast hip-hop.

London’s best-known track, “Back to Your Place,” topped the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart and earned him three Soul Train Music Award nominations. Pulled from his 2023 album The Rebirth of Marvin, the record’s bold title drew some early criticism, but as London tells me, he ultimately won people over. “People listened to the music and were like, ‘this isn’t half bad,’” he said with a laugh.

Since then, London’s profile has only grown. This summer, he appeared on Snoop’s breezy single “Must Be Summer,” dropped a new track under his Sam Nash alias called “Country Man,” and just released his latest Sam Nash album, Duallys and Damsels, on Sept. 19. SPIN caught up with him to talk about his artistry, his bond with Snoop, and what it means for a new generation to carry Death Row’s torch and fulfill the label’s original vision of a house big enough to hold it all.

Early beginnings and an early Snoop assist

Born Jared Samuel Erskine, London grew up in a household where music wasn’t just played, it was made. His mother was a singer, his father a guitarist, and family gatherings often turned into jam sessions. Alongside the original songs, there was always soul and funk in the air including Ronald Isley, Frankie Beverly and Maze, and Marvin Gaye.

Despite this background, London considered many careers before music, including designing cars and being a truck driver. “I guess I could always sing,” he said. “I would sing for my grandmother in front of her — audience of one — singing Michael Bolton’s ‘When a Man Loves a Woman,’ and she loved that. She would clap and be really proud of me.”

After graduating from high school, he decided not to pursue college and instead commit to music full time. One of his earliest hits was 2016’s “Black Man in America,” which features a fiery music video where London gets shot. “It was kind of made on a whim,” he recalled. “I was kind of just in a mood, because I was just seeing so much injustice. And I was seeing so much wrongdoing, whether it was police brutality, or, not to get too political, I just saw a lot of wrong in the system.”

London found the courage to go all in with the track thanks in part to Snoop Dogg, whom he first crossed paths with after a friend in Indiana connected him to producer-hookman Jazze Pha. London sent Pha a wide-ranging batch of tracks and Pha, impressed, passed some along to Snoop. What many people don’t realize is that his business relationship with Snoop wasn’t immediately formalized. “We were on a shaking-hand basis from 2016 all the way up until right after he acquired Death Row,” London said.

Joining the Family

Snoop’s purchase of Death Row Records from MNRK Music Group in February 2022 was a full-circle moment for the Long Beach rapper, whose 1993 debut Doggystyle helped define the label. For London, it was the moment everything changed for him, too. He remembers being in the room when Snoop ended a call finalizing the deal, and later that night during the celebration, Snoop pulled him aside. “He was like, ‘You’re going to be the flagship of Death Row,’” London recalled.

At first, London bristled. He thought of the countless legends who had come before him, and the fact that he was an R&B singer, not a rapper. But Snoop was clear: He wanted to steer Death Row in a new direction, and London was the artist he trusted to move that forward.

London is grateful that over the years he’s been able not only to release R&B projects (2023’s The Rebirth of Marvin and 2024’s October Nights) but also to branch into pop, country, reggaeton, and EDM. He even appeared on Snoop’s “Funky Christmas,” a successor to the label’s holiday-themed compilation, Christmas on Death Row (1996).

As part of the family, he’s crossed paths with Death Row legends like Daz Dillinger, with whom he recorded “When Life Calls,” a reimagining of a Michael Franks track from the ’80s where London sounds uncannily like Nate Dogg. “That was interesting because they were kind of looking at me like, ‘OK, this new kid, he ain’t Nate, but Snoop brought him in, let’s see what the hell he can do,’” London said. “I just wanted to show I could deliver like Nate could. I wanted to be that kid they’d call and be like, ‘Yo, come on man, we need you on this record.’”

That call has come more than once. London has been tapped by West Coast mainstays from Tha Dogg Pound to the Game, where he says he recently cut a track for the Compton rapper’s long-teased Documentary 3 album.

Dual identities

Some know him as October London, the smooth R&B singer with the jet black suit and shades. Others recognize him as Sam Nash, his country-singing alter ego. London likes to shapeshift to keep things interesting. “I like to do this whole skip to my lou thing through different genres. I don’t want to get too bored,” he said.

His passion for country also speaks to the year he spent in Texarkana, Texas, a place with “nothing but rich oil money,” and where he decided to devour every kind of music out there. London says he gets excited about contemporary country, as well as artists like Kenny Chesney and Reba McEntire, drawing particular inspiration from McEntire’s lyrics.

What draws him most, though, is the storytelling power of the genre. “Country is like a soul food, like a gumbo,” he said. “I feel like I can be vulnerable in country. I feel like there’s no judgment… there’s just something about an acoustic guitar or a pedal steel that tells a different story and shows a different scenery and makes me write differently when I hear those songs and those elements.”

Sam Nash’s “Tennessee Whiskey” featuring original songwriter Dean Dillon is a nod to earlier generations of the country staple while staking new ground in a world increasingly aware of Nearest Green, the first African-American master distiller on record.

London says shifting between his two personas usually happens without a hitch, with fans willing to follow him across genres. Still, there can be moments of confusion, like when he casually mentioned to his October London audience that he was “switching genres.” What he meant was that he was stepping into his Sam Nash persona for a while, not leaving R&B behind. He’s quick to clarify that there’s plenty more to come on the October London front, true to a Death Row label that was a platform for artists like fellow Midwesterner Danny Boy, as well as Jewell, Val Young, and Nate Dogg. But, barring Nate, you can’t help but wonder what would have happened if those singers were given even more of a chance to shine.

Snoop himself was a devoted fan of Detroit group the Dramatics, and was thrilled when Dre’s bassist Tony Green—who had played with the group for decades—helped broker their appearance on the iconic “Doggy Dogg World,” as Green once recalled to me. George Clinton made his way onto several Death Row tracks and Suge Knight recently revealed that 2Pac was campaigning to get Aaliyah signed to the label, too. Now, under Snoop’s leadership, Death Row is fully embracing R&B, as well as many other genres, too.

Inspired by Snoop’s constant movement, London is building beyond music and bringing value to the label in different ways. “I’m going to retire with Death Row… movies, podcasts, TV shows—anything I can bring to the table other than just music,” he said.

“I want to keep it big because that’s what Snoop’s been doing all these years,” he adds. “A lot of artists coming up behind him didn’t see that. But me and Snoop, we’re both Libras.”

London says some of Snoop’s best advice is to forget the algorithm and ignore the rules. In today’s R&B scene, crowded with artists like Bryson Tiller and Migos, it’s tempting to follow the mold, but Snoop told him to find his own lane.

“There’s been zero traffic,” London said. “And I’m doing 80 all the way home.”

Jasmine Crockett Targeted In Racist Social Media Rant By Laura Loomer

Rep. Jasmine Crockett was once again on the receiving end of harsh words by Laura Loomer. The far-right political activist shared her controversial remarks while reacting to a video of the Texas congresswoman criticizing a House resolution honoring Charlie Kirk.

In the CNN clip, Crockett voiced she was admittedly “hurt” by knowing only two white House representatives voted against a resolution honoring Charlie Kirk. Loomer quoted the clip on X and wrote, “It hurts my heart that we have ghetto black b**ches who hate America serving in Congress.” The post immediately gained traction and garnered backlash and also support from fellow far-right conservatives.

Journalist Jemele Hill sarcastically reacted to Loomer’s words by writing, “I’m sure this was totally taken out of context,” to which the Trump ally doubled down with, “I meant every word, actually.” Hill warned her to keep the same energy IRL by replying, “Oh I know you did. Let’s see if you can keep that same energy if you see the Congresswoman in person.”

Crockett has been the subject of countless conservatives spewing racist remarks this year alone. Last month, Blaze TV host Sara Gonzales was escorted out of a town hall by security for yelling out, “Jasmine, the people of Dallas deserve better than a fake ghetto hoodrat! Do they know you’re a spoiled rich kid from Missouri?” Newsmax contributor Todd Starnes also previously claimed she is “cosplaying a gangsta,” attempting to undermine her upbringing.

In her initial sentiments on CNN’s State of the Union, Crockett was expressing her disappointment about a resolution honoring Charlie Kirk that was passed by the House.

“The rhetoric that Charlie Kirk continuously put out there was rhetoric that specifically targeted people of color. It is unfortunate that even our colleagues could not see how harmful his rhetoric was, specifically to [people of color],” she expressed.

Cardi B: AM I THE DRAMA? Album Review

by jummy84 September 24, 2025

AM I THE DRAMA? acknowledges the stylistic transformation of New York rap, with production largely in the hands of Sean Island and DJ SwanQo. But Cardi maintains a respectful distance from the prevailing trends. Instead, she plays with bursts of experimentation, adopting new flows without sacrificing legibility. “Pretty & Petty” does double duty: The hook is readymade for ubiquity as a TikTok trend while the verses constitute one of the most punishing diss tracks of the year. She practically prances over the beat, a grittier, New York-ified take on the cadences and melodies associated with Mustard’s L.A.

In the vein of Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” the apparent glee with which Cardi crushes Boston rapper Bia, four years into an escalating beef, magnifies the effect: “Name five Bia songs, gun pointin’ to your head/Baow, I’m dead/That melatonin flow puttin’ us to bed/I’m doing you a favor, Epic, run me my bread.” As if to prove her point, the song’s release coincides with steep exponential growth of Google searches for Bia name. Devastating. The album is at its most enjoyable when Cardi is in this prickly mode: “Hello,” “Magnet,” the 2 Chainz-written “Salute.” The bilingual, Dyckman-ready “Bodega Baddie,” a turbo-charged merengue bop, makes a promise akin to Rihanna’s mythical reggae album; at under two minutes, it’s a brief glimpse at a worthwhile style for Cardi to linger on.

It’s been a long seven years. Exercises in catharsis abound in the form of heartbreak songs, recorded in the shadow of divorce. With few exceptions, these are grating rap ballads on which even the specifics of a toxic relationship feel generic. The default formula of a sung chorus registers as vacant, even when entrusted with the capable Summer Walker, Lizzo, and Kehlani. Cardi joins many of her streaming-era peers in shunning the self-editing that made Invasion of Privacy, at 13 songs, effective. That work, when offloaded to the listener under the guise of generosity, lands instead as risk aversion.

In certain realms of pop, the songwriting process has become a compacted, impenetrable underbrush, with observers desperate to gather more meaning from a list of song credits than is actually possible. Cardi’s lablelmate, Pardison Fontaine, remains a stubborn yet compatible presence and, with writing credits on 19 of 23 songs, her most consistent collaborator. For fans, this makes him a trustworthy creative partner; for skeptics, it damns Cardi as a talentless hack and Pardi her sub rosa crutch.

But, as she has herself articulated, Cardi’s musical talent has not historically been that of an effortless generator of songs; what she has mastered, as a rapper and elsewhere, is locating an idea, seizing it, and transmuting it into something her own: a style of rap that is both outrageous and easily digestible, designed to travel well from the strip club to the Super Bowl. Always walking the line between edgy and accessible, Cardi summons the breakthrough of early aughts rap more than she does her contemporaries; this is the stuff of high-end recording studios, not improvised bedroom setups.

An ingenious cultural interpreter of sorts, Cardi transported the exclamatory trill “okurrr” from its drag origins to the late-night talk show circuit so effectively, and without any apparent sacrifice of authenticity, that it is often falsely attributed to her. “Am I the drama?” too, has its origins in drag. It was Scarlet Envy, as a contestant on RuPaul’s Drag Race, who first wondered, cheekily, about her culpability. But, as an album, AM I THE DRAMA? seems to signal that, for Cardi, the question functions better as a rhetorical one: It doesn’t really matter whether she’s the drama; even if she didn’t start it, Cardi will be the one to end it.

Dua Lipa and talent agency respond to reports of sacking agent for calling for Kneecap to be dropped from Glastonbury

Dua Lipa and her talent agency have responded to reports that she sacked her agent after he reportedly signed a letter calling for Kneecap to be removed from the Glastonbury line-up.

The Daily Mail reported this weekend that the singer, currently on the North American leg of her ‘Radical Optimism’ world tour, parted ways with her William Morris Endeavour (WME) agent David Levy.

A source alleged that the singer “made sure through her people that David Levy wasn’t working on her music anymore,” adding that “she views him as being a supporter of Israel’s war in Gaza, and the terrible treatment of the Palestinians and that was made very clear through the letter that he signed and sent to Michael Eavis.”

Now, Dua Lipa has taken to Instagram to distance herself from Levy but clarify the reports.

“I do not condone the actions of David Levy or other music executives toward an artist speaking their truth,” said Lipa. “I also cannot ignore how this has been handled in the press. Not only was the story completely false, but the language used by the Daily Mail has been deliberately inflammatory, crafted purely for clickbait, clearly designed to fuel online division.

“It is always Free Palestine but exploiting a global tragedy in order to sell newspapers is something I find deeply troubling.”

A WME spokesperson has also disputed the tabloid accounts. They told NME: “Reports suggesting that Dua Lipa or her management dismissed one of our agents because of his political views are categorically false.

They added: “David Levy played a role in Dua’s early career (2016-2019) and as is customary, is credited both internally and in industry journals as being a member of the team. When he moved out of London in 2019, he transitioned into an advisory role and has not been involved in Dua’s day-to-day business since. Levy fully removed himself from the project among others earlier this year.”

The letter in question was an email sent to Glastonbury organisers, including co-creator Eavis, ahead of this year’s festival. Intended to be confidential, it was leaked by a Glastonbury employee.

The campaign to remove Kneecap, known for their vocal pro-Palestine views, from the line-up, was ultimately unsuccessful, and DJ Toddla T was one of the letter’s biggest critics, writing on Instagram that it “was headed by a very systemically powerful music agent and signed by 30 individuals from within the music industry.”

Lipa, meanwhile, has long been outspoken about Palestine. In 2021, she criticised an ad in the New York Times that labelled her, as well as models Bella and Gigi Hadid – both half-Palestinian – as Antisemitic.

In October 2023, she was one of a number of celebrities to sign a letter to then-US President Joe Biden calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, and she reaffirmed her stance in an interview the following January.

Last May, she shared her support for the #AllEyesOnRafah campaign in a bid to garner support for people living in cramped refugee camps in the city without humanitarian aid. She wrote on her Instagram Stories, “Burning children alive can never be justified. The whole world is mobilising to stop the Israeli genocide. Please show your solidarity with Gaza. #AllEyesOnRafah.”

A month later, she said she was “willing” to “be met with a backlash” over her comments, describing them as being “for the greater good”.

She’s also pressured Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to take action, being one of over 300 figures to sign Choose Love’s open letter urging him to “end the UK’s complicity in the horrors in Gaza. Following his response, the non-governmental organisation hit back, saying, “We need actions not words for the children of Gaza.”
