For 15 years, Supernatural was there for viewers of the beloved CW series through good times, bad times and the end times. The sic-fi and horror show debuted on September 13, 2005, and fans were immediately transfixed by the horrors, spooks, and stories of brothers Sam and Dean Winchester fighting the demons, monsters, and spirts that roam the world.

The series comes to a blazing finale in November 2020. Throughout the series, the main stars have been an absolute mainstay, with more cast members coming and going — even some returning for tonight’s final bow. So, let’s take a look back at how the cast has changed over the show’s 15-year run!

Jared Padalecki

Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester [Everett/AP].

Jared Padalecki played Sam Winchester for the entire series’ run. He’s appeared in over 320 episodes of the show, playing one of the two brothers hunting down the supernatural beings in the real world. Along with starring on Supernatural, Jared also played Dean Forester on the series Gilmore Girls from 2000-2005, reprising his role in the 2016 Netflix mini-series Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

While on Supernatural, Jared found love! He became engaged to co-star Genevieve Cortese. Genevieve appeared in a guest role during the show’s fourth season. The two married in 2010 and have three children — son Thomas, son Austin and daughter Odette.

Jensen Ackles

Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester [Everett/AP].

Jared’s other half on the show is none other than Jensen Ackles. Like Jared, Jensen appeared in over 320 episodes of Supernatural from 2005-2020, playing Dean Winchester. Jensen got his start on Days Of Our Lives, in which he played Eric Brady for 115 episodes. For his work on Supernatural, Jensen has earned a number of People’s Choice Awards and, like Jared, became a husband and father while appearing on the show! In May 2010, Jensen married his wife, Danneel. The couple have three children together — a daughter and twins, a boy and a girl!

Misha Collins

Misha Collins on ‘Supernatural’ and today [Everett/AP].

Although he didn’t appear in as many episodes as Jared and Jensen, Misha Collins played a huge role — or roles — on the CW series! During his time on the show, Misha had to wear a number of hats, which included playing Castiel, Jimmy Novak, and even Lucifer! Misha first appeared in the series in season four, and quickly became an integral part of the show.

Mark Sheppard

Mark Sheppard on ‘Supernatural’ and today [Everett/AP].

Like Misha, Mark Sheppard was introduced into the series when it was very well established. During season five, Mark made his first appearance in episode 10, playing Crowley. But after making an impression on fans and the creatives behind the show, Mark went on to appear in more than 70 episodes between 2009-2017! Although his presence and character will be missed on the series finale, he’s already been busy with new projects.

He currently plays Willoughby Kipling on Doom Patrol. He’s also appeared in a slew of shows from Doctor Who, to Battlestar Galactica.

Jim Beaver

Jim Beaver on ‘Supernatural’ and today [Everett/AP].

Jim Beaver was also a major part of the Supernatural series. He played Bobby Singer throughout the series. Jim appeared in more than 70 episodes and was first introduced to fans of the series in May 2006 — the latter half of the first season.

Alexander Calvert

Alexander Calvert on ‘Supernatural’ and today [Everett/AP].

Although he was a late addition to the cast, Alexander Calvert was a vital part of Supernatural during his run on the show. He played three different roles — Jack, Belphegor, and Nephilim — on the show and will also appear in the final episode tonight. Though Supernatural fans know him from the sci-fi and horror series he boasts quite the list of credits. Alexander also appeared in the 2019 independent comedy Good Boys along with the 2015 coming-of-age film The Edge of Seventeen with Hailee Steinfeld!

Mark Pellegrino

Mark Pellegrino as Lucifer [Everett/AP].

Mark Pellegrino had one devilish role on the show. He played Lucifer on Supernatural and was first introduced in the season five premiere, aptly named “Sympathy for the Devil.” From there, Mark appeared in 40 episodes of the show, from 2009-2020. Along with his work on Supernatural, Mark also played Bill Standall on the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why.

Samantha Smith

Samantha Smith played Mary Winchester on ‘Supernatural’ [Everett Collection].

Samantha Smith made such an impact when she first appeared in Supernatural. She played Mary Winchester, the brothers’ mom. Her character created such an emotional arc for the show, appearing in a number of time-traveling episodes. Samantha appeared in almost every season.

Ruth Connell

Ruth Connell as Rowena MacLeod [Everett/AP].

Ruth Connell played a huge role in season 10 of Supernatural as Rowena MacLeod. A tricky character, Ruth played a witch who was also the mother of Crowley. Ruth had been on the show since 2014, appearing in more than 30 episodes.

Charlie Kirk: A Controversial Voice Whose Legacy Leaves a Mark

Charlie Kirk: A Controversial Voice Whose Legacy Leaves a Mark

by jummy84 September 13, 2025
written by jummy84

Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was more than just a political activist.

He was a figure who shaped conversations, sparked debates, and built a following that stretched across college campuses and social media platforms. His sudden death following the tragic shooting in Utah has left a ripple of shock not only in political circles but also among young Americans who grew up seeing his name trend almost daily.

Born in 1993 in the suburbs of Chicago, Kirk rose from obscurity to national attention in less than a decade. In 2012, at just 18 years old, he founded Turning Point USA, an organization dedicated to mobilizing young conservatives. What started as a small project quickly grew into a powerhouse with thousands of campus chapters across the country. To his supporters, Kirk was a fearless advocate for free markets, limited government, and traditional values. To his critics, he was a polarizing voice who thrived on culture-war clashes and headline-grabbing soundbites.

Kirk’s ability to tap into the energy of Gen Z and millennials was undeniable. He mastered the art of podcasting, live events, and social media clips that traveled faster than news broadcasts. His Turning Point conferences drew big names, from senators to former presidents, and gave thousands of students access to the type of political networking that usually lives behind closed doors.

But what stood out about Charlie Kirk was not just his career but also the personal side that those close to him highlighted after his passing. Friends and colleagues describe him as deeply committed to his faith and family. Married to former Miss Arizona USA Erika Frantzve, Kirk became a father of two young children in recent years, a role he often said was his most important legacy. In interviews, he admitted that while politics was his passion, his greatest joy came from raising a family and building a future outside the spotlight.

The tragic circumstances of his death have triggered a nationwide conversation about political violence and its dangerous rise. Leaders across the political spectrum have condemned the attack, emphasizing that disagreements should never spill over into such acts. Candlelight vigils and memorials have taken place in Arizona, Utah, and beyond, where supporters remember not just a controversial political figure but a man who dared to step onto the stage young, untested, and unapologetic.

Charlie Kirk’s story is ultimately one of ambition, risk, and the power of ideas in the digital age. Whether you agreed or disagreed with his views, it is impossible to deny his influence. He built an organization from scratch, gave young conservatives a platform, and became a household name before his 30th birthday. His loss leaves an empty space in American political life, one that will fuel debates, inspire tributes, and remind many of both the promise and peril of being a public figure in today’s divided world.

“Disappear into your imagination! Nobody’s in the room but you and that pen!” Les Films du Losange in France has revealed the first official trailer for Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut – a new film titled The Chronology of Water, based on the book of the same name. This initially premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, and will next stop by the Vienna & London Film Festivals. No US release date is set yet – it’s expected sometime in early 2026. An Olympic swimming hopeful flees her abusive home via a Texas scholarship. After losing her scholarship to addiction, she studies further under Ken Kesey in Oregon. Through writing, family, and self-discovery, she overcomes her troubled past. Stewart isn’t in the film – she co-wrote and produced and directed it. Imogen Poots stars as a young woman who finds her voice through the written word & her salvation as a swimmer – ultimately becoming a triumphant teacher, mother and a singular modern writer. The full cast includes Thora Birch, Earl Cave, Tom Sturridge, Kim Gordon, & Jim Belushi as iconic novelist Ken Kesey, who mentors Lidia. I did not care for this film – it’s a big mess.

Here’s the first French trailer for Kristen Stewart’s film The Chronology of Water, from YouTube:

Brought up in an environment torn apart by violence and alcohol, Lidia Yuknavitch seemed destined for self-destruction & failure until words offered her unexpected freedom through literature. The Chronology of Water, adapted from Yuknavitch’s autobiographical bestseller, follows Lidia’s journey to find her own voice in an exploration of how trauma can be transformed into art through re-possessing our own bloody histories, particularly those uniquely experienced by bodies of women and girls. The Chronology of Water is directed by acclaimed Americana actress / producer / filmmaker Kristen Stewart, making her feature directorial debut after a few other short films. The screenplay is written by Andy Mingo and Kirsten Stewart, adapted from Lidia Yuknavitch’s memoir of the same name. It’s produced by Ridley Scott, Charles Gillibert, Yulia Zayceva, Max Pavlov, Svetlana Punte, Michael Pruss, Rebecca Feuer, Kristen Stewart, Maggie McLean, Dylan Meyer. This initially premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. The film opens first in France on October 15th, 2025 this fall, then in select US theaters starting January 2026. Emmys 2025: What to Expect From Television’s Biggest Night
Hollywood

Emmys 2025: What to Expect From Television’s Biggest Night

by jummy84 September 13, 2025
written by jummy84

The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards are just around the corner, set to take place on September 14, 2025, and Hollywood is buzzing with excitement. Television’s biggest night is not only about celebrating outstanding performances and groundbreaking shows, but also about setting the tone for where the industry is heading next. With new rules in place and a wave of fresh nominees, the Emmys this year promise to be one of the most unpredictable ceremonies in recent memory.

One of the biggest storylines leading up to the show has been the rule changes implemented by the Television Academy. Directors can now submit multiple episodes for consideration as long as they are from different programs, a shift designed to acknowledge the growing demand for multi-genre talent. Another key update is the clarification around guest performance eligibility. Actors nominated in lead or supporting categories for a series can no longer be re-submitted as “guests” in the same show, a move that aims to make the playing field more fair. These adjustments reflect the evolving nature of television in an era dominated by streaming, short-form series, and anthology storytelling.

As for the nominees, the field is as diverse and competitive as ever. Streaming platforms continue to dominate, with Netflix, HBO, and Apple TV+ each securing a heavy slate of nominations. Fan-favorite dramas like Succession and The Crown are once again in the spotlight, while breakout newcomers such as The Last of Us and Shōgun are making strong cases for the big wins. On the comedy side, Abbott Elementary and Ted Lasso are expected to face off once again, while fresh contenders like Only Murders in the Building keep things interesting.

The acting categories are equally stacked, with seasoned icons competing against rising stars. Expect emotional acceptance speeches, especially in categories where longtime performers are finally getting their due recognition. The red carpet will also be a highlight, as the Emmys have become a fashion moment almost as big as the Oscars. Designers are already teasing bold, futuristic looks that blend Hollywood glam with the playful spirit of television.

Another major talking point is the role of artificial intelligence in television. SAG-AFTRA’s recent leadership shift, with Sean Astin as the new president, has put the spotlight on how the industry will navigate AI’s growing presence. While the Emmys are about celebration, the underlying conversations in Hollywood this season are very much about the future of storytelling, fairness, and creativity in an age of rapid technological change.

Above all, the Emmys remain a night where television fans can come together to celebrate the stories and characters that have defined the year. Whether you are rooting for a high-stakes drama, a feel-good comedy, or a limited series that left you speechless, the 2025 ceremony is shaping up to deliver unforgettable moments both on stage and off.

With big stars, fresh rules, and an unpredictable mix of nominees, the Emmys 2025 could mark a turning point in how we celebrate television. One thing is certain: this year, all eyes will be on the small screen’s biggest night.

Review: Francis Lawrence’s ‘The Long Walk’ is an Emotional Wallop

by Alex Billington
September 12, 2025

“Walk until there’s only one of you left…” This unexpected end of summer surprise is one of the best of the year. The Long Walk is one of three new Stephen King adaptations this year – as well as The Life of Chuck and The Monkey. It’s based on one of the early novels by King published back in 1979 (under his pseudonym Richard Bachman). The Long Walk features a dystopian American future + a yearly government game a lot like The Hunger Games; though let’s be honest, it’s more than likely The Hunger Games borrowed from this story, considering The Long Walk was published a full 29 years before any of those books. And they really pulled this off. This movie got me good… It’s even more emotionally impactful and thrilling as a depiction of fascist dystopian hell than so many other stories trying the same. It shook me up proper. Yep we’re heading towards exactly what is depicted – it’s a zeitgeist concept. Not only is the filmmaking top notch, it’s riveting and so unsettling to watch, but the performances are what matter the most and they’re all excellent in here.

Here is the setup: in the near future with a devastated economy, America now offers a once-a-year become-very-wealthy game for young men around the country. One boy from each state is chosen through a lottery to compete in “The Long Walk.” The rules are simple: everyone must keep walking at a speed of 3 MPH or above. You keep on walking & walking until there’s only one person left. “If you fall below the speed of three miles per hour, you get your ticket.” Meaning they kill you. A convoy of military vehicles follows along to maintain the rules. If you do the calculations, this “long walk” should last about 3 days and cover over 300 miles, which is right around when the exhaustion is so unbearable you pass out or go crazy. There are up to 3 warnings issued if you slow down, which also grants them time to urinate or tie their shoe if necessary. It’s grueling. It’s insane. Of the 50 competitors in this long walk, the focus is on Cooper Hoffman playing Ray Garraty (#47) and David Jonsson playing Peter McVries (#23), who become friends over the course of the arduous stroll. Along with Stebbins (#38 – Garrett Wareing), Arthur (#6 – Tut Nyuot who is yet another stand out), Barkovitch (#5 – Charlie Plummer), Hank (#46 – Ben Wang), Collie (#48 – Joshua Odjick).

The relationships formed on this long walk are the most important part of this story – this is the real meat of King’s tale. Of course it is also brutally honest commentary on fascism & capitalism, and the way the world rewards only those willing to kill themselves (more on that below). But it’s also a story of these “boys”. This movie has the most vivid and deeply moving Sam & Frodo energy between Ray & Pete I’ve experienced in a long time. Some of the most perfect casting picks ever getting Cooper Hoffman and David Jonsson as the two leads. They are remarkable together in this. I was wiping away tears by the end. I won’t stop thinking about them for a long time… It’s not just their friendship, it’s their comradery, their conversations, the way they grow to appreciate each other for who they are, not for the endurance to win this walk. And everything changes once they finally open up and tell each other their real stories. It’s so beautiful and wholesome… I think there’s a wise lesson in here about listening to each other, understanding each other, well beyond the macho-ness of competing in this walk thinking you’ll win it. Winning isn’t really what matters, right? I hope everyone else watching this movie comes to understand this point that King is making between Ray & Pete.

The film’s key metaphor of endlessly walking towards wealth is exceptionally accurate & clever. One of most representative analogies for life in late-stage capitalism. Yes, of course, it is literally about how insane it’d be to watch 50 boys walk for 3 days non-stop without any rest or breaks or anything. Yes, it’s gory and brutal to watch, with all the usual grisly injuries that could happen along the way. This story cannot be told without showing the gory truth of how this much walking destroys a body. The brutality is also part of the metaphor. Much like the Spanish film The Platform, simplicity is key in depicting this metaphor of America’s obsession with chasing wealth. Only 1 of the 50 will make it and win “endless riches” – it’s interesting that they never state an exact amount, just the dream of “riches” is enough. Much like life in poverty, you have to believe in yourself to get to the end or you literally won’t make it. You have to keep on marching, no matter how hard it gets. There’s wealth there at the end of the tunnel! Everyone else is dead? Whatever, keep on going, you only have yourself to worry about… And you’ll get there soon enough. Or you won’t… March on! For there is glory waiting: if you can outlast the brutality longer than everyone else! Then you, good Samaritan survivor, will finally be rewarded. Don’t worry about the 49 boys who didn’t make it… they’re not the winner. You are.

The Long Walk director Francis Lawrence, who’s also known for directing all The Hunger Games sequels after the first one (including Songbirds & Snakes), outdoes himself this time by bringing things back to the basics with pure, focused storytelling. The way he depicts the dystopian small towns along the way, flashes & moments of sullen locals watching like ghosts in the distance, indicates he has such a keen understanding of what is broken in modern society. And he wants us to see it and pick up on that within this movie. And to also feel the heaviness and bleakness of this scenario, how it’s not so far off from really happening, how this long walk is not the answer. It’s just perpetuating the madness. The sneakiest trick Francis Lawrence pulls is instilling so much hope and positivity into the first half of the movie. All 50 boys are so cheery & upbeat! It’s also part of the madness… You have to believe in this BS and create false hope in order to get even halfway there. I will admit this movie is quite depressing to watch, but the ending hits hard and lands right where it should, making the right decision. He is a Hero. He does what is necessary, but is that enough? I hope so…

Dwayne Johnson Reinvents Himself in The Smashing Machine

by jummy84 September 12, 2025
written by jummy84

For more than two decades, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has dominated Hollywood with his charisma, larger-than-life presence, and an endless stream of high-octane action roles.

From the Fast & Furious franchise to Disney blockbusters, audiences have come to expect a certain brand of entertainment from him: big muscles, witty one-liners, and explosive stunts. But at the Venice Film Festival this September, Johnson surprised the world by stepping into completely new territory with The Smashing Machine.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Benny Safdie, The Smashing Machine tells the gritty and deeply human story of Mark Kerr, a legendary mixed martial arts fighter whose career in the 1990s was marked by triumphs inside the cage and devastating struggles outside of it. Addiction, fame, personal relationships, and the intense physical toll of the sport shaped Kerr’s journey, and now, through Johnson’s performance, his story is reaching a global audience.

What shocked many at Venice was not the fact that Johnson took on the role, but how profoundly he disappeared into it. Gone are the superhero bravado and polished Hollywood perfection. Instead, Johnson delivers a raw, vulnerable, and deeply emotional performance that shows a side of him fans have rarely, if ever, seen before. Critics who attended the festival noted that his work in this film could easily put him in the conversation for major acting awards, something many would not have predicted for an action superstar.

For Johnson, this role marks a career-defining moment. During press interviews in Venice, he shared how personal the project became for him. He spoke openly about facing his own inner battles over the years and how embodying Kerr’s pain and perseverance was both challenging and transformative. This honesty resonated strongly with audiences, many of whom were moved to see a global superstar open up about struggles often kept behind the curtain of Hollywood glamour.

The film itself is a raw and immersive experience. Safdie, known for his ability to capture tension and realism in projects like Uncut Gems, applies his signature style to the world of MMA. Every punch, every bruise, and every moment of desperation is captured with relentless authenticity. Combined with Johnson’s physical dedication  he underwent intense training to match Kerr’s unique fighting style the result is a performance that feels as real as it gets.

The response from Venice has already begun shifting Johnson’s image in Hollywood. He is no longer just the action hero who saves the day, but a versatile actor capable of tackling complex and dramatic roles. This transition could open new doors for him and redefine how audiences see one of the most bankable stars in the industry.

With The Smashing Machine, Dwayne Johnson proves that reinvention is possible, even for someone at the very top. It is not only a milestone in his career but also a powerful reminder that vulnerability can be just as compelling as strength.
