Watch: Proof of Concept for Genndy Tartakovsky’s ‘Black Night’ Film

Meet the Black Knight. Animation master Genndy Tartakovsky has revealed a first look proof-of-concept promo for a project he has been working on. Tartakovsky is well known as one of the modern masters of animation, creator of “Dexter’s Laboratory”, “Samurai Jack”, “Sym-Bionic Titan”, “Star Wars: Clone Wars”, “Primal”, and “Unicorn: Warriors Eternal”. His most recent movie was Fixed, which Netflix picked up and released this year after the studio dropped it. He has another project that is in limbo as well. Black Night is a project that Genndy was developing with Sony Pictures Animation. The intro: “After failing to protect his king, a highly skilled and faithful knight must transform into the Black Knight to save the kingdom.” Set during the 14th century, this suit of armor is actually controlled by someone inside. Genndy explains Sony is unsure if there’s an audience for it, so he went rogue and posted this clip on his Instagram hoping to show people and get a reaction from potential audience members… So – would you watch a movie about this guy?

Black Night Test

Thanks to Twitter for the tip on this video debuting. Genndy Tartakovsky explains more about this Black Knight project via his IG: “Well, this might get me in trouble… But gotta try a new strategy. About 6 years ago we started development on a more adult animated action movie, The Black Knight. We developed it for a few years, the studio liked what we were doing but they were unsure if there is an audience that would go see it theatrically. We made a down and dirty test, and still no go. So to try something different I thought I would share the test to see if it can get a ground swell of excitement that would change the studio’s mind. I won’t share the details of the story except for one element, our Knight Armor is 20 feet high and controlled by a knight inside using ropes, pulleys, and levers. The setting is around the 14th century… Anyways, I’ve already said too much…” The Black Knight info lists Genndy Tartakovsky as director, with Patrick Burleigh and Tartakovsky as the writers. Maybe they will let them finish the movie one day? Stay tuned… Thoughts?

What Happened Before Ryder Cup? – Hollywood Life

Pro golfer Jake Knapp is grieving the loss of his late girlfriend, Makena White, who died shortly before the September 2025 Ryder Cup, which Knapp is not competing in. White was just 28. A friend of White’s shared the devastating news of her death to her Instagram page on September 26, 2025.

“Hi everyone – this is Makena’s friend, writing with the heaviest heart to share that Makena passed away earlier this week,” the caption read. “She is already so deeply missed by her dad, her family, her friends, and of course by Nelly and Fergie.”

Calling White “one of a kind,” her friend added that she “had this rare way of making you feel special, and her huge heart was always overflowing with love.”

“To be loved by Makena was a gift; one that came with endless laughter, so much joy, and a healthy sprinkling of chaos as we tried to keep up with her travel schedule.”

CBS Sports course reporter Amanda Balionis commented her condolences under the Instagram post. She wrote, “Getting to know Makena was one of my favorite parts of this last year. So much laughter, passion and she never met a stranger. I will miss her light… it touched so many.”

Below, we break down what we know so far about White, her relationship with Knapp and her untimely death.

Who Was Makena White?

White, an Ottawa, Ontario, native, reportedly worked in surgical sales, providing equipment to vascular and cardiac surgeons. She studied communications and software engineering at McMaster University, per Daily Mail.

While her appreciation for golf grew thanks to her boyfriend, White was also an avid Ottawa Senators hockey fan.

How Long Was Jake Knapp Dating Makena White?

Knapp and White started dating sometime in 2023, but she didn’t make it Instagram official until the following year with a cheeky post.

“Does it still count as a hard launch if NBC saw it first?” White captioned her post in March 2024 alongside a photo of her and the golfer.

During their time together, White regularly shared supportive Instagram messages and sweet pictures of her boyfriend, playfully including the term, “Knapp time,” in some of her captions.

What Happened to Makena White? What We Know About Her Tragic Death

White’s cause of death has not been disclosed at the time of publication. Her friend’s Instagram note pointed out that supporters could donate to two organizations that focus on brain health.

“If you would like to honour Makena’s memory, donations to the Bruyère Brain Health & Memory Clinic or the Griffin Bell Endowment Fund would mean a lot,” the Instagram caption read. “We love you Mak. We’ll miss you always, and we’ll be looking for you in the sunset.”

The Griffin Bell Endowment Fund was created to honor a child named Griffin Bell, who died of neuroblastoma in 2024; Bruyère is a clinic in White’s hometown, Ottawa, Canada, that specializes in cognitive impairment, dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease.

Naturally, fans wondered if the mentions of the clinic and fund indicated that White had a brain impairment, illness or an injury. However, the details of her health have not been made public. Speculation surrounding her death is baseless.

Review: PTA’s ‘One Battle After Another’ Vivid Tale of Revolutionaries

by Alex Billington
September 26, 2025

The new Paul Thomas Anderson lands in theaters right at the right time in America’s history. To say this is a “timely” movie isn’t really accurate – this story has been building in PTA’s mind for years. He just finally got the script together, and somehow got Warner Bros to give him over $100 million to make it, and they went out and shot it last year, and now we’re treated to an astonishing movie. To say it’s too soon to judge if it’s an “American classic” isn’t really accurate either – this movie is unquestionably an instant classic that will be loved by movie fans all over the world. And with time it will earn its place in cinema history, even though most of us who write about movies professionally can see the writing on the wall already. One Battle After Another totally rocks. This movie kicks so much ass. But using such a banal, trite phrase to describe it is a disservice – this sprawling, pristine, energetic, visceral modern movie deserves much more careful analysis & deeper intellectual appreciation. Not only entertaining, it’s the movie of the moment in that it represents the zeitgeist perfectly. It may be amusing satire, but it’s also pretty darn realistic if you really break it down.

Written and directed by master filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson as his 10th feature film, One Battle After Another is officially inspired by the novel “Vineland” by Thomas Pynchon. Clearly not an adaptation, PTA gives Pynchon credit in the movie anyway, as the ideas within the book provide some basis for the ideas in the movie. In one of his best modern roles, Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Bob Ferguson – a member of the “French 75” revolutionary group who falls in love with Perfidia Beverly Hills, played by Teyana Taylor, another member. The movie is the story of American activists / revolutionaries through time, a tale of one family and how fighting American oppression & racism is passed on to the next generation. Though it’s also a comedy, a satire about Stoner Dad Bob getting older. Most of the movie takes place when Bob’s daughter Willa, also known as “Charlene Calhoun” (her cover name), is a teen disinterested in anything her parents did. Chase Infiniti plays this role with a real “let me introduce myself” pizzazz that is instantly endearing and badass all at once. She represents Gen Z and their vibes / feelings / choices. But she also needs to learn about how the world really works & is quickly introduced to this truth when Bob’s past catches up with him.

Bob’s past is depicted in the form of one Col. Steven J. Lockjaw, nemesis of the French 75, a military fascist asshole who is forever on the hunt for Bob and his ilk. Sean Penn takes on this fascinating role as Lockjaw and nails this performance so profoundly perfectly, understanding and depicting the reality of this kind of person so precisely, that his on-screen villain character is as enigmatic and as iconic as the greatest movie villains of all-time. He’s up there with Anton Chigurh & Hans Gruber and all the others. And the funny thing is that way too many people will watch this movie and get upset that he’s portrayed as the bad guy. Too bad! Lockjaw is the epitome of every broken, hateful, violent, evil American jackass – right down to the authentic depiction of a guy who has to repress his own love for Black woman just so that he can get a corner office in the White Supremacist Group’s regional branch. PTA wants to ruffle some feathers, rattle the cages, and tell a story that evokes the truth about America, with all its nitty gritty details. All of what he shows is accurate, even if it’s shown through the lens of $100M+ satire: the police state all Americans exist within, the racism, the white supremacy, the xenophobia, the oppression; which remains despite years of activism & resistance.

Like pretty much everyone else, I totally loved PTA’s One Battle After Another. Easily one of the best movies of 2025, easily deserving of any/every award it’s going to get during the awards season, easily deserving of all the love it’s receiving from movie fans everywhere. PTA used that Warner Bros to also tweak the movie through test screenings and make sure the story – above all – soars and glides. It’s going to stand the test of time, it’s going to get even better on every repeat viewing. It’s not just the tale of these revolutionaries that I enjoy being pulled into, it’s also the pristine filmmaking, the riveting pacing, the off-the-charts magnificent performances galore: Stoner Dad DiCaprio, Saint Benicio Del Toro, Unforgettable Chase Infiniti, Bastard Lockjaw Sean Penn, a Defiant Regina Hall; and everything else going on in this. Featuring yet another all-timer evocative score by Jonny Greenwood, utilizing his sound for an effective emotional layer on top of all that we’re seeing on screen. Of course, everyone knows PTA is one of the best filmmakers out there, his technical knowledge is irrefutable. But it’s all about how that knowledge comes together to work in service of the story & this time it’s cinematic synergy at its best. And man oh man do I vibe with Stoner Bob in this.

My most intriguing theory about this movie is that it’s pretty much a PTA autobiography. Taking us through his life when he was a more rebellious youngster whipping out his first movies (Hard Eight, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Punch-Drunk Love) up to his current Stoner Dad era trying to pass along his rebellious spirit to his child (he has 4 children with actress Maya Rudolph). While One Battle After Another is an immensely inspiring & amusing portrayal of American revolutionaries, it’s also a heartfelt tale of a father and daughter. These activists are just regular people, too – trying to live their own lives and raise a family and take care of each other. And Bob’s lesson to Willa is that she needs to recognize that her family is a line of fighters and she’ll join the fight, too – whether she likes it or not. There’s always more work to be done. One battle after another, they must keep fighting the evil assholes like Lockjaw and the Christmas Adventurers Club. They’re relentless haters. But there’s also hope in the idea that PTA is passing on his revolutionary spirit, reminding us that even when you get older and start to forget things, there is hope in the next generation taking flight and heading out in the world to make a real difference and pick up where you left off. And this is real hope.

“They’re not superstars – they’re just performers who are married with kids and trying to do the best with both worlds.” Apple TV has revealed the first official trailer for a documentary film titled Stiller & Meara: Nothing is Lost, directed by actor / filmmaker Ben Stiller telling the story of his own family. This is an extension of his previous doc series also titled “Stiller & Meara”, taking a closer look at his parents – comedy icons Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara. One of the most personal films about Ben Stiller and his family. The doc is premiering at the 2025 New York Film Festival and will then hit theaters and streaming on Apple TV+ in October this fall. NYFF explains: “After Anne & Jerry passed away in 2015 and 2020, respectively, Stiller dug into the vast treasure trove of recordings, footage, letters, and ephemera with which they documented their personal & professional lives. These extraordinary archives are a foundation of this immensely moving – and, of course, very funny – documentary. Stiller & Meara is above all a true multigenerational family project, made with the collaboration of Stiller’s sister, Amy Stiller; his wife, Christine Taylor Stiller; and children Ella and Quinlin Stiller.” This looks great! A must see for Stiller fans and doc lovers out there.

Here’s the trailer (+ poster) for Ben Stiller’s doc film Stiller & Meara: Nothing is Lost, from YouTube:

In the process, Ben Stiller turns the camera on himself and his family to examine Jerry and Anne’s enormous influence on their lives, and the generational lessons we all can learn from those we love. Stiller & Meara: Nothing is Lost is directed by acclaimed actor / comedian / filmmaker Ben Stiller, director of the films Reality Bites, The Cable Guy, Zoolander 1 & 2, Tropic Thunder, and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty previously, plus series “Escape at Dannemora” and “Stiller & Meara”. “Your humanity is also resistance.” Watermelon Pictures has unveiled an official trailer for All That’s Left Of You, made by filmmaker Cherien Dabis, telling a powerful multi-generational story of a Palestinian family living in the West Bank. This premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year (where I saw it) and also played at the Karlovy Vary, Telluride, Zurich, and Hamptons Film Festivals. Now set for a US release in limited theaters starting in November. In the Occupied West Bank of the 1980s, a Palestinian teenager is swept into a protest that changes the course of his family’s life. Reeling from its aftermath, his mother, Hanan, shares the story that led them to that fateful moment. Spanning seven decades, this epic drama traces the hopes and heartaches of one uprooted family, revealing not only the scars of displacement, but the unbreakable spirit of survival. Starring Cherien Dabis, Saleh Bakri, Mohammad Bakri, Adam Bakri, Maria Zreik, and Hayat Abu Samra. The film is also Jordan’s submission to the Oscars this year. I’m a big fan of this one – I wrote a great review from Sundance, stating that “it is one of the defining movies about Palestine and its history.” I’m very glad it’s getting a proper release in US theaters soon. Take a look.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Cherien Dabis’ film All That’s Left Of You, direct from YouTube:

Pete Hegseth has long been a fixture in public life — as a former Fox News co-host, author, veteran, and outspoken conservative. But since ascending to the role of Secretary of Defense in January 2025, he’s found himself under levels of scrutiny few in his position face.

In recent months, the 45-year-old has been mired in controversy over revelations that he participated in unauthorized Signal messaging groups used to share sensitive military information. According to The Atlantic and The New York Times, he disclosed operational details of U.S. airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen in a chat that included his wife, brother, and private counsel.

As these disclosures triggered investigations and legal questions, Hegseth also made unprecedented moves from the Pentagon. He abruptly summoned hundreds of generals and admirals to a surprise meeting at Quantico, igniting concern and confusion within the military, according to The Washington Post. In parallel, he disbanded the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services, citing its alleged “divisive feminist agenda,” according to The Guardian.

In light of these developments, public interest in Hegseth’s background has surged, particularly regarding his educational credentials. Find out more about his academic background below.

Scary Fun Trailer for ‘Scurry’ Underground Alien Monsters One-Take

“No one is coming! They’re all dead!” Yep – probably true. Signature Ent. has launched an official trailer for a scary horror thriller creature feature called Scurry, made by Australian filmmaker Luke Sparke. This is the same guy who also made the dinosaurs in Vietnam War movie Primitive War also out this year. Though Scurry was actually made and premiered before that one – it opened in Australia last year. But it’s just now showing up outside of Australia and will be out on VOD in the UK soon + hopefully in the US, too. When an unthinkable attack devastates their city, two strangers find themselves trapped beneath the chaos, wounded and disoriented. As they fight to survive in a narrowing underground tunnel, their injuries worsen, and their chances of escape dwindle. But something else is lurking in the darkness, something relentless and hungry. Shot in real-time using a single continuous take, Scurry delivers a gripping, claustrophobic experience that will keep audiences on edge until the very last moment. Starring Jamie Costa and Emalia. As someone on YT commented, this kinda has a low budget Tremors vibe, but the creatures are even scarier in here. Enjoy.

Here’s the official UK trailer (+ poster) for Luke Sparke’s horror film Scurry, direct from YouTube:

“From the moment I first envisioned Scurry, I knew I wanted to create an experience that would keep audiences on the edge of their seats—something fast, relentless, and deeply immersive. Creature features have always held a special place in cinema, blending tension, survival, and awe-inspiring spectacle. With Scurry, I wanted to bring a fresh, visceral energy to the genre while staying true to what makes these films so thrilling: the fear of the unknown, the power of nature, and the resilience of the human spirit.” –Director Luke Sparke

But the collapsing passageways aren’t their only threat—something else is lurking in the darkness, something relentless & hungry. Shot in real-time using a single continuous take, Scurry delivers a gripping, claustrophobic horror experience that will keep audiences on edge until the very last moment. Pete Hegseth has lived in the public eye for years. As a well-known ex-television personality and political commentator, he has drawn significant interest in his personal life. In late 2024, Donald Trump selected Hegseth to lead the Pentagon. Although the former Fox News co-anchor tends to keep his family away from the spotlight, he has opened up about his children in past interviews and, occasionally, on social media. Now that he’s the Secretary of Defense, many are curious to learn more about his family.

In his book The War on Warriors, Hegseth expressed his hopes for his sons to join the military when they are older. One excerpt from his letter reads, “If you take that oath, I hope you take it all the way. Your dad didn’t know the difference between the Army and the Marine Corps when he joined. I was not from a military family. But when you join, you will know. And I would urge you to join the best. The SEALs. The Rangers. The Green Berets. Marine Raiders.”

“I urge you in this consideration to show courage. You are men. Act like it,” Hegseth wrote in another portion of his letter to his kids. “But if you choose not to serve in uniform, that is your choice. Then my charge for you is to fight and lead at home — because our war is on all fronts. I love you boys — and pray that your fight, like mine, means your kids (and may you have many!) and my grandkids live in an America that honors God, cherishes freedom, celebrates families, and lives in peace.”

Does Pete Hegseth Have Children?

Hegseth is a father and a stepfather to seven children in total.

Is Pete Hegseth Married?

Hegseth is married to his current wife, Jennifer Rauchet. The spouses wed in 2019. Previously, Hegseth was married to his second wife, Samantha Deering, from 2010 until they split in 2017 after Rauchet, who would become his third wife, gave birth to her and Hegseth’s first child.

From 2004 to 2009, Hegseth was married to his first wife, Meredith Schwarz. The two were high school sweethearts. After Hegseth admitted to having multiple affairs, he and Schwarz divorced, according to The New Yorker.

How Many Kids Does Pete Hegseth Have?

Hegseth has four biological children and three stepchildren. He shares one daughter with his current wife, Rauchet, and shares three other kids with his ex-wife Deering. Hegseth is also a stepdad to Rauchet’s three children.
