“There are so many people eating people out there.” Netflix has revealed an official trailer for The Elixir, and Indonesian zombie horror thriller arriving to watch later this month streaming worldwide. This crazy fun zombie dark comedy is about a family which tries medicine that turns their dad into a hungry undead monster. A dysfunctional family running a renowned herbal medicine business creates even more trouble. The owner of the company attempts to innovate by creating a new potion, which ends up triggering a zombie outbreak. Made by Indonesian filmmaker Kimo Stamboel, The Elixir immerses audiences in a world of raw terror & unrelenting suspense. It weaves in Indonesian cultural elements, from the herbal medicine jamu to zombies with local characteristics, all set against the backdrop of familiar family dynamics. The film stars Mikha Tambayong, Eva Celia, Donny Damara, Dimas Anggara, Marthino Lio, Kiki Narendra, Ardit Erwandha, Claresta Taufan, and Varen Arianda Calief. This certainly looks crazy & gnarly! It’s extra gross and intense and filled with zombies galore as they overrun police and everyone else. Check it out.

Set in a remote village near Yogyakarta, the movie opens with a patriarch’s ambition to maintain power, leading to family disputes & catastrophe. Kenes (Mikha Tambayong) and her family visit her father, Sadimin (Donny Damara), the owner of a renowned herbal medicine business, to discuss the future of the family business. Tensions escalate when Kenes confronts her best friend, Karina (Eva Celia), about her intention to marry Sadimin. But the quarreling abruptly turns into fear when Sadimin, having just drunk his new potion of eternal youth, suddenly loses consciousness & transforms into a terrifying creature—a zombie. Panic erupts as the undead pounce on humans, while the uninfected try desperately to escape. All disputes, egos and emotions must be set aside for one goal: helping each other and fighting for survival. The Elixir is directed by Indonesian filmmaker Kimo Stamboel (half of “The Mo Brothers”), director of Macabre, Killers, Headshot, DreadOut, The Queen of Black Magic, Ivanna, Jailangkung: Sandekala, Sewu Dino, last year’s Dancing Village: The Curse Begins, and the “Blood Curse” series. The screenplay is written by Agasyah Karim, Khalid Kashogi, Kimo Stamboel. Produced by Edwin Nazir. Netflix will debut Stamboel’s The Elixir streaming on Netflix worldwide starting October 23rd, 2025 this fall. Anyone want to watch?

“I can assure you – you have nothing to fear.” Vertical has unveiled a teaser trailer for a horror thriller film titled We Bury The Dead, made by genre filmmaker Zak Hilditch from Australia. This already premiered at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival earlier in the year to superb reviews – though they’ve now scheduled it for release in January 2026 right after the New Year. Setting this up to be a chilling way to kick off 2026 with some unsettling cinema. After a catastrophic military disaster in Tasmania leaves many people gone from a disease, the dead don’t just rise – they hunt. Ava searches for her missing husband among the dead, but what she finds is far more terrifying. Ava joins a “body retrieval unit,” but her search takes a chilling turn when the corpses she’s burying start showing signs of life. Starring Daisy Ridley, Brenton Thwaites, Matt Whelan, Chloe Hurst, Kym Jackson, & Mark Coles Smith. It’s a refreshing new entry in the zombie subgenre, with reviews saying it delivers “a few bursts of genuine scares in the process and an awe-inducing sense of scale.” This is a great teaser! I’ve seen enough – I’m sold & will watch. Horror fans – do not miss it.

Here’s the first look teaser for Zak Hilditch’s horror film We Bury The Dead, from Vertical’s YouTube:

Via SXSW: “From acclaimed writer/director Zak Hilditch, We Bury The Dead is a gripping and emotional thriller set after a military experiment decimates the people of Tasmania. Daisy Ridley stars as Ava, a desperate woman who joins a “body retrieval unit” in the hopes of finding her husband alive. Ava’s search takes a chilling turn, however, when the corpses she’s burying start showing signs of life… As she journeys to the south of Tasmania in search of her husband, Ava is forced to confront the undead — and make peace with her own unfinished business.” We Bury The Dead is written and directed by American filmmaker Zak Hilditch, director of the films The Actress, Plum Role, The Toll, These Final Hours, 1922, Rattlesnake, plus other shorts. Produced by Kelvin Munro, Grant Sputore, Ross Dinerstein, Joshua Harris, Mark Fasano. This initially premiered at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival earlier this year, and will next screen at the Sitges Film Festival. Vertical releases Hilditch’s We Bury The Dead in select US theaters starting January 2nd, 2026.

“It’s life or death!” “It’s both. It’s always both.” Brooklyn zombie mash! IFC Films has debuted the official trailer for a horror comedy movie called Queens of the Dead, a queer zombie comedy made by filmmaker Tina Romero (daughter of the legendary zombie master George A. Romero – who passed away in 2017). Drag queens and club kids battle zombies craving brains during a zombie outbreak at their drag show inside a warehouse in Brooklyn, putting personal conflicts aside to utilize their distinct abilities against the undead threat. The film premiered the 2025 Tribeca Festival – where it won an Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature – and later screened at the Fantasia Film Festival up in Montreal a few months ago. Queens of the Dead is now set to open in theaters starting in October (of course!) before it’s streaming on Shudder. The fun ensemble cast includes Katy O’Brian, Jaquel Spivey, Tomas Matos, Nina West, Quincy Dunn-Baker, Jack Haven, Cheyenne Jackson, Dominique Jackson, Margaret Cho, Riki Lindhome, & others. This looks like some wacky, weird, wild and kinky horror fun even if it’s another familiar zombie riff.

Here’s the official trailer (+ posters) for Tina Romero’s film Queens of the Dead, direct from YouTube:

It’s Easter in Bushwick, and a different kind of resurrection is at hand… In Queens of the Dead, a zombie apocalypse breaks out in Brooklyn on the night of a giant warehouse party, where an eclectic group of drag queens, club kids, & frenemies must put aside their drama and use their unique skills to fight against the brain-thirsty, scrolling undead. They’re all forced to resolve their differences and find a way to band together and survive. Queens of the Dead is directed by up-and-coming genre filmmaker Tina Romero, making her feature directorial debut after a few short films previously. The screenplay is written by Tina Romero and Erin Judge. Produced by Natalie Metzger & Matthew Lee Miller. This initially premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival, and also played at the Fantasia Film Festival earlier this year. IFC Films debuts Romero’s Queens of the Dead horror in select US theaters starting October 24th, 2025 this fall. Who’s in?
