Timothée Chalamet Rocks a Mini Purse in New York

by jummy84 October 12, 2025
written by jummy84

It’s been a great week for Timothée Chalamet fans: There have been several sightings of the actor in New York as he begins promoting his new film, Marty Supreme. (He and girlfriend Kylie Jenner even squeezed in a baseball date night, too.) This weekend, Chalamet—who is currently rocking a buzz cut—was spotted on the streets of Manhattan, and his outfit was worthy of a double take. Namely, his eye-catching micro bag.

Chalamet proved he is team mini purse, wearing an orange Hermès Kelly bag. The luxurious style—a celebrity favorite, also worn by stars like Lady Gaga and Kate Moss—can go for upwards of $10,000. Despite its hefty price tag, Chalamet styled the piece in a nonchalant way, pairing it with a leather jacket, sweatpants, and a cool pair of tan sneakers. He wore it as though it was an everyday cloth tote (a New Yorker signature).

David Byrne Welcomes Hayley Williams In New York

by jummy84 October 12, 2025
written by jummy84

David Byrne and Hayley Williams have enjoyed a close personal and working relationship for the past several years, and their chemistry was evident last night (Oct. 11) at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, where the Paramore frontwoman made a surprise appearance for two songs.

The artists reprised their collaboration “What Is the Reason for It?” from Byrne’s latest album, Who Is the Sky?, and Williams returned later to lend a hand on Byrne’s cover of Paramore’s 2013 song “Hard Times,” which he’s played at every show so far on his in-progress North American tour.

What’s more, Byrne and Williams’ previously announced contribution to the Netflix animated film The Twits, “Open the Door,” is out now ahead of the movie’s Oct. 17 release date. Byrne wrote and produced three other original songs, “We’re Not Like Ev’ryone Else,” “Lullaby” and “The Problem Is You,” for the project, which is based on characters by Roald Dahl and boasts voice acting by Natalie Portman and Emilia Clarke.

“She has an extraordinary rapport with her audience,” Byrne told People of seeing Williams perform with Paramore at New York’s Madison Square Garden in 2023. “It’s very sincere and very close, which I made note of. I just thought, that’s really amazing.”

Byrne concludes his four-night Radio City run tonight and has dates booked in North American through Dec. 6 in Miami. Dates in Australia, New Zealand, the U.K. and Europe begin Jan. 14 in Auckland.

bitchy | Taylor Swift stepped out in New York, she went to steakhouse Eighty Six

by jummy84 October 9, 2025
written by jummy84

Taylor Swift stepped out last night in NYC, her first “pap stroll” outing in months. She went to the Eighty Six, a steakhouse. Taylor really went underground following the Super Bowl, and while she has been out in New York this year, she’s only been photographed very rarely. Taylor’s sending a message here: I’m back! Talk about me! Her skirt is way too short, btw. But obviously, she loves autumn. She loves boots and cute sweaters. We’ll be seeing more of her like this in the coming months.

Meanwhile, Taylor released The Life of a Showgirl last Friday, to mixed reviews and a fanbase which seems to be growing more disenchanted by the year. There are discussions about Taylor ripping off other artists with little to no credit. There are discussions about Taylor’s problematic behavior towards other women in the industry. There’s the “Opalite” discourse about the imagery and message she uses to discuss Travis Kelce’s Black ex-girlfriends (specifically Kayla Nicole). There’s also a discourse about Taylor’s romantic history, especially when she was an adult woman literally dating a kid in high school (Conor Kennedy). Anyway, you get the idea – a lot of people are talking a lot about Taylor and her album, and there are ongoing critiques of the music and Taylor herself. Well, Taylor welcomes those discussions! At least that’s what she claimed on The Zane Lowe Show:

Taylor Swift shared her candid thoughts on the passionate range of reactions to “The Life of a Showgirl.” She thanked the fans who “immediately” got the album’s emotion and themes — but she also had words for the critics. While appearing on Apple Music’s “The Zane Lowe Show,” Swift said she “welcomes the chaos” seeing that it’s a “rule of show business”: “If it’s the first week of my album release and you are saying either my name or my album title, you’re helping. And art, I have a lot of respect for people’s subjective opinions on art. I’m not the art police. It’s like everybody is allowed to feel exactly how they want. And what our goal is as entertainers is to be a mirror.”

The record has received mixed reviews from critics with some praise for its unabashed, joyful sound, while others criticize the lyrics for their perceived lack of depth.

“Oftentimes, an album is a really, really wild way to look at yourself,” Swift told Lowe. “What you’re going through in your life is going to affect whether you relate to the music that I’m putting out at any given moment.”

The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter also made a revealing statement about what empowers her to make music: “We’re doing this thing for keeps. I have such an eye on legacy when I’m making my music. I know what I made. I know I adore it, and I know that on the theme of what the Showgirl is, all of this is part of it.”

[From Variety]

Taylor talking about “legacy” is wild. I expect an artist like Beyonce to talk about her artistic legacy, and working on legacy projects (which is exactly what the Renaissance trilogy is, a transcendent legacy project). But Taylor? She’s a 35-year-old who is still singing about high school and her fiance’s redwood dong. She’s still scrapping with pop girls and gaming the charts with variants (she’s released like 20 variants already, in like the past 72 hours). But she’s right, if people are talking about her, that’s good for sales and it means her promotion is working. It’s just that I don’t believe that Taylor has a que-sera-sera attitude about people critiquing her music or her celebrity persona.

Taylor Swift’s Dinner Photo in New York City

The opening song on Taylor Swift‘s The Life of a Showgirl references the character Ophelia from William Shakespeare‘s Hamlet, who faces a tragic fate.

According to the song’s lyrics, Taylor “might’ve drowned in the melancholy” if she hadn’t been saved by her true love.

“I heard you calling / On the megaphone,” Taylor sings. “You wanna see me all alone.”

The lyrics appear to be a nod to Travis Kelce calling Taylor out on his New Heights podcast for not meeting him at her Eras Tour, which is how their romance began.

“I swore loyalty to me, myself and I,” the lyrics continue. “Right before you lit my sky up.”

Before meeting Travis, Taylor was fresh off a breakup from Matty Healy, having declared herself one of the “independent girlies” in July 2023.

But after Travis went to her concert in Kansas City that same month, sparks began to fly.

Now, Taylor’s fiancé is even in on her Easter egg game, teasing “The Fate of Ophelia” lyrics on Instagram back in July. (Had some adventures this offseason,” he captioned pics with Taylor, adding, “Kept it [100].”)

How does that connect to Taylor’s song? Well, as the lyrics go, “You dug me out of my grave and saved my heart from the fate of Ophelia / Keep it one hundred.”

Nicholas Hoult has announced he will miss his scheduled appearance at the upcoming New York Comic-Con after undergoing knee surgery that has left him unable to walk or fly.

Nicholas Hoult has announced he will miss his scheduled appearance at the upcoming New York Comic-Con after undergoing knee surgery that has left him unable to walk or fly

In a video message shared on Comic-Con’s official Instagram page, the 35-year-old actor apologised to fans for his absence.

He said: “I’m so sorry to tell you that I won’t be able to join you this time. Unfortunately, I had knee surgery a couple of weeks ago and I can’t walk or fly yet, so I’m not going to be able to make it.

“I was really looking forward to it, so I’m sorry.”

Nicholas continued: “I hope you have a wonderful weekend and hopefully I’ll be joining you in the near future and get to see you all soon.”

The actor was due to appear on a highly anticipated X-Men reunion panel alongside his former co-star James McAvoy.

Nicholas first portrayed mutant scientist Hank McCoy – known as Beast – in X-Men: First Class in 2011 and went on to reprise the role in several sequels, including Days of Future Past and Dark Phoenix.

He was also set to discuss his latest role as Superman’s arch-nemesis Lex Luthor in the upcoming film Superman, part of the new DC Universe series of movies.

His casting was announced earlier this year, generating significant attention from both comic-book fans and film critics.

While Nicholas did not reveal details about his surgery, medical experts often advise against flying soon after knee operations due to the potential risk of deep vein thrombosis.

Recovery times can vary depending on the procedure, with some patients advised to wait up to three months before travelling by air.

New York Comic-Con runs from 9 to 12 October and attracts thousands of attendees each year.

Nicholas had been expected to participate in fan events and interviews throughout the weekend.

Away from his superhero roles, Nicholas has built a diverse career across film and television.

He began acting as a child and gained early acclaim for his breakout performance in the 2002 film About a Boy alongside Hugh Grant.

He later became known for his role as Tony Stonem in the teen drama Skins, before establishing himself in Hollywood with major roles in Mad Max: Fury Road, The Great and The Menu.

New York Alt-Rock Band SAMSARA is on the Verge

New York Alt-Rock Band SAMSARA is on the Verge

by jummy84 October 6, 2025
written by jummy84

The meaning of the word Samsara (the cycle of death) may imply the opposite of Nirvana (the circle of life), yet the New York band of the same name is not unlike the iconic grunge band that still defines an era of misfit musicians from the 90’s. Yet the alt rock band, SAMSARA’s musical oscillation and talent stands on its own merit.

SPIN discovered SAMSARA on ReverbNation via the music creation and discovery platform BandLab where their tracks jumped out as fully formed calling cards among other developing acts on the popular music mastering app. Not unlike emerging bands before them, SAMSARA has played NYC dive bars, had the chord pulled on them for being too loud and misunderstood by audiences and venue owners, and played New York’s Mercury Lounge at key turning points in developing their live performance prowess, songwriting, and edgy yet beautiful sound.

The five-member act started out playing covers – from Billie Eilish (“Bad Guy”) to “Little Sister” by Elvis – at Food Truck Festivals around their native New York. Today, their smart, hard-driving sound belies each member’s 20-something age. Guitarist and vocalist Charlie LoMonaco was ten years old when he first met bassist John Devito and drummer Ben Bustamante at School of Rock, the performance-based music education program for young New York musicians. “It really taught us how to perform in front of an audience,” explains Ben, “and it’s where every single one of us met at different times.”

“I remember when I met them I was 14,” says lead vocalist Dylan Trif. “They were the most tight knit musicians I’d seen for our age because they had known each other for so long already, and I was like, Oh, f***, how do I get in on this? And I slowly finagled my way in… secretly.”

Today, SAMSARA’s technical ability melds with vocal and lyrical chops to create an evocative, determined sound that sets them apart from other rising musicians. LoMonaco is now a graduate of Berklee College of Music where lead vocalist Dylan is currently enrolled. John acquired a prestigious history degree from upstate New York, while Ben attended community college in Long Island for studio recording but learned more from studying the drumming of John Bonham and Dave Grohl. Rhythm guitarist Brendan Sandhovel remains a mysterious secret weapon that the other members swear they can’t live without. He’s the computer scientist in the group. You can hear the band’s diverse sonic influences in Queens of the Stone Age, U2, Arctic Monkeys, early Coldplay, Black Sabbath, and even My Bloody Valentine.

SAMSARA’s blown out songs are powerful and infectious. Edgy lovelorn storytelling and vocals match assaulting guitars, ominous chord structures and amped up rhythm. Their sound is melancholic and downcast yet cacophonous not unlike British rockers The Editors.

The track “Shadow” unravels a tale of loss traversing through the light and dark of a traumatic night that is dream-like and real all-at-once. On the uncompromising drive of “Nirvana,” Dylan’s vocals and lyrics land somewhere between Julian Casablancas in The Strokes, Arctic Monkey’s Alex Turner, and Billy Idol. The more metal sounding, “Tell Us Your Name,” is marked by heartbreak and possessed guitars. It was the band’s first track where they felt their true sound started to emerge. “Filthy Habit” reveals an addictive love and an unsuccessful attempt to break it. Yet it is the mournful track, “411,” that haunts the listener with its jangly Britpop guitars and tight rhythms washing over chord structures and vocals that pine for an ill-fated love (“But you had to say that we are gonna fade away…”). “Awake” is the most British rock sounding track, yet it is also distinctly American.

SPIN caught up with the guys on a Saturday night in September where they were eager to talk about their music, desires, and future aspirations of playing Madison Square Garden and a British festival like Leeds and Reading or Glastonbury, plus finish a full-length album by year’s end.

When people ask you about the band’s sound, how do you describe it to them?

(Dylan) Hard alt rock is a good way of describing it. It’s really interesting because all of us listen to such different music. None of us in the band have the same music taste, and I think that’s why we have such a unique sound. It’s because we take everything from different genres. What I like to say is that SAMSARA is alt rock with a mix of grunge and shoegaze. Shoegaze is a very generous one. But there are so many different components of what everyone listens to.

For instance, John just loves metal! This guy can go on and on about metal. I like the 2000s, a lot of pop alternative rock. Ben is just a crazy John Bonham type of drummer… that’s just how he started off. When you have that power from the drums, then some grit from the bass, and then Charlie in his own little world – he’s like a machine on guitar – then Brendan comes in with this chugging that brings it down. Somehow it all goes together. One of my favorite bands is Coldplay. I love early Coldplay… the album Parachutes with the song “Yellow.” I put Coldplay-esque melodies over all the music underneath our sound. I don’t know how to explain it but when you add all of these different genres in, it gets into all of our minds on one track.

Tell us about the first song that you ever wrote as SAMSARA, “Tell Us Your Name” (2019).

(Dylan) John wrote the baseline. It was when we first started the band and we used to spend every day of the summer together. Like, three months. We probably spent 90 days of the summer together and we wrote one song. It was good.

(Ben) I feel so bad for my parents. Everybody was playing close to my house, right next to the living room… rehearsing so loud, going over the song over and over.

(Charlie) But it made us so tight as a band where you can just glance at somebody and know exactly what they’re thinking… onstage and in the studio. It made us super locked in together. It was like an incubator.

SAMSARA has so many songs already. Can you explain how they all come together in your song writing process:

(John) Sometimes we get to send demos and sometimes we’ll have the opportunity to write together in the same room.

(Ben) Dylan writes all the lyrics but songs can come in from anywhere. We all dabble in different instruments which helps in our songwriting, and performing too. It’s really interesting and helps with our process. It makes us different from other bands.

A lot of the time, Dylan and I work on Logic (the app), and we’ll send little ideas to each other here and there. And I’m like, ” Oh, I think this might be cool.” And then Dylan will be like, “Nah, I don’t like it. I like this.” It’s super important to be honest with each other, or else it won’t happen. Then we’ll show it to the band. Then if everybody’s cool with it,  it starts to become bigger. Then people who actually know how to play their instrument will start playing the parts how they are intended to sound. They bring in the skills! We always thought it was a good idea to have songs that were powerful, that hit you. Like how Dylan writes his lyrics over the songs, it’s very melodic. Then when we pull back on a song, it gives the audience a second to breathe and take in what just happened.

(Dylan) It’s funny, though, because whenever I’m writing, I’ll be like, okay, I can’t play that well, but Charlie can… John can do that… then Ben can do that. But we’re all very locked in rhythmically because we can all play drums so it comes together rhythmically. We all definitely play more than one instrument, some more than others, which really helps in our songwriting, although writing songs is more difficult now with me being a little far away in Boston. Since I’ve been at school, we’ll write individually then send it to each other, just to get the ideas out and be like, Hey, just thinking about this, what do you guys think we can do with it? If we agree over text, we’ll listen to it and try it out.

Tell us about how you all play more than one instrument and use that to describe the other guys:

Vocalist Dylan on Bass Player John: John is a crazy drummer and a crazy guitarist. He won’t admit it, but he’s insane at playing every instrument. He’s probably better than all of us! He’s better at  playing secondary instruments than we are at playing our primary ones.

Drummer Ben on Vocalist Dylan: He’s the best singer ever. I remember when I first met him. He was 14 and came in to School of Rock. He auditioned and I heard him sing for the first time. It felt like the room was shaking. I felt it in my chest and I got chills. I was like, dude, this is crazy. How does this guy have such a powerful voice? His voice is so good and I actually love Dylan’s lyrics a lot.

Guitarist Charlie on Drummer Ben: Ben’s guitar playing is super inspiring to me because he comes at it from a different perspective. Let’s say he writes a riff or a chord progression, and then I transcribe that where I riff from what he’s doing but play it my way. Then somebody who doesn’t have, for example, a formal guitar education, like Dylan or Ben, will come in. I got into Berklee for guitar, so when somebody like that will come in and show me weird chord shapes that they’re playing, it becomes a challenge for me. It’s fun to explore different melodic pathways.

Vocalist Dylan on Guitarist Charlie: It’s funny, though, because whenever I’m writing, I’ll be like, okay, I can’t play that well, but Charlie can. John can do that, and then Ben can do that. But we’re all very rhythmic so it comes together. We are all very locked in rhythmically because we can all slightly play drums.

Guitarist Charlie on Rhythm Guitarist Brendan: He’s our second guitarist. He joined the band when John went to college in 2019 and we didn’t have a bass player. We had met him at School of Rock. He came through when I was about 15 – a little bit later than the rest of us. But Brendan clicked right away. He had the same humor and same ability. He was keeping up with us. He just got added in and nothing changed. He gelled and kept on rolling with it. So when John got back, we were like, we should keep this guy around!

Conclusion

How does a really good band even come together? Is it through innate talent, technical skills, a soul connection, a great name, drive, comradery, or even fate?  Most successful bands can’t even tell you. They can only guess at how they achieved an elevated status in a competitive music landscape. In general, it’s a little bit of everything. If that’s true, then SAMSARA is sitting pretty.

New York Neighbor Revenge Comedy

by jummy84 October 5, 2025
written by jummy84

Even if its plot didn’t center around the staging of an off-Broadway play, there would be no denying that “The French Italian” is a theater kid movie. Its approach to comedy is ripped straight from the world of musical cast parties and improv shows, with every performer doing their best to turn every line into a GIF-able burst of wholesome self-deprecation. Even its most mean-spirited plotline, in which a married couple assemble a fake theater production to humiliate their ex-neighbor whose noisiness prompted them to move, is presented as more of a gentle exercise in silliness than anything truly vindictive. The fact that the entire movie builds to a climax in a New York black box theater was an inevitability that makes it all seem intentional.

Monster: The Ed Gein Story stars Charlie Hunnam as the actor playing Ed Gein, shown here smiling in the dark with his hand above his face

Boasting a cast of faces you’ll recognize — and names you probably won’t — from the New York comedy scene, Rachel Wolther’s film follows Valerie and Doug (Catherine Cohen and Aristotle Athari), a married Brooklyn couple who insist they just want to get some decent sleep. But that lie they tell themselves masks a deeper truth: They’re bored and need a new source of excitement. And the arrival of some suspicious new neighbors presents an opportunity that solves one problem while worsening the other.

These new downstairs neighbors live a life that’s completely at odds with Valerie and Doug’s comfortable monotony: they’re constantly fighting and singing loud karaoke, and the volatile relationship becomes a source of entertainment that our protagonists follow as if its a true crime podcast. Valerie and Doug start filling their days with speculation about the strange relationship: Is he abusing her? Is she abusing him? Is their entire a life a facade for something more sinister?

But the intellectual stimulation of judging one’s neighbors isn’t enough to make the noise tolerable, and Doug and Valerie soon give up their rent-controlled apartment to move to the suburbs. They expect to score points for recounting this story to a group of artsy friends at a party, but everyone berates their stupidity for allowing strangers to force them out of such a great apartment. The mistake tortures them, which prompts the couple to try and solve the mystery by producing a fake play in an attempt to get their ex-neighbor Mary (Chloe Cherry) to audition. Their encounter with her only makes them madder, prompting them to actually stage this play and cast her as part of a larger revenge scheme.

Wolther’s choice to use a Brooklyn cocktail party as a framing device for the entire film is a clever one, as “The French Italian” is constructed entirely out of banter that you’d hear at the afterparty for your friend’s comedy show that you didn’t really want to attend. The humor gets grating at times, but the film deserves some credit for knowing exactly what it wants to be. It’s the kind of New York comedy that’s more influenced by 2020s “Saturday Night Live” humor than Woody Allen movies, and Wolther executes that vision with inoffensively colorful cinematography and a breezy script that never asks you to think too much.

Ultimately, “The French Italian” has far more to say about navigating the mundanities of a stable and pleasant relationship in your thirties than about theatre, revenge, or noisy neighbors. Valerie and Doug have been punished to a life of DINK contentment: they’re comfortable in every way that counts, but without a quest that adds structure to their lives and drives them to get out of bed every morning, they start looking for battles that they have no business fighting. In some of the prime years of their lives, they devote the bulk of their energy to neurotically pursuing more and more comfort and serenity, only to drive themselves a bit insane in the process.

The film appears to be made by and for the kinds of people who might find themselves in a similar state of cozy ennui. If you’re drowning in comfort, you might find “The French Italian” to be a comforting watch.

Grade: C+

“The French Italian” is now playing at the Quad Cinema in New York City. It expands to Los Angeles on Friday, October 10 before hitting VOD on October 28.

Watch Addison Rae Showcase ‘Diet Pepsi,’ ‘New York’ on ‘Fallon’

The singer also recounted going to see Justin Bieber when she was growing up and creating a chant in hopes of going backstage

Addison Rae stopped by The Tonight Show to perform a medley of “Diet Pepsi” and “New York.”

The pop singer took the late-night show’s stage in gold gown, offering an ethereal take on “Diet Pepsi,” the hit single she dropped last August. She then danced across the floor to a segment of “New York” before climbing onto host Jimmy Fallon‘s desk.

Rae also sat down with Fallon to discuss her debut album, Addison, and celebrating her 25th birthday. “I actually love aging,” she said. “I think aging is amazing. I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, everything just feels like it matters much less when you get older. Yeah, actually, anything goes.’ As long as I’m surviving, I’m good.”

The singer recalled going to see a Justin Bieber concert on one of her birthdays when she was growing up. “Just seeing him on stage, I was dying,” she said. “But also just like, ‘Wow, one day that’ll be me up there in the levitating heart.’” She added that she created a chant with her cousins to get Bieber’s attention: “We’ve got Bieber fever. It’s 102. And the only way to cure it is to go backstage with you.” She noted, “It didn’t work. Epic fail.”

Trending Stories

Rae released Addison in June. The album came a year after she first began teasing new music. Last June, she posted a video of her underwater as the then-unreleased track “Aquamarine” played over it. Lead single “Diet Pepsi” was dropped in August, with “Aquamarine” officially arriving a couple months later. Ahead of the album, she unveiled five total songs off the LP, all with their own videos.

The singer recently appeared in the trailer for Ryan Murphy’s Monster: The Ed Gein Story, playing one of the infamous murderer’s alleged victims. Premiering on Netflix today, The Ed Gein Story is the third installment of Murphy and Ian Brennan’s true crime anthology series, following seasons on Jeffrey Dahmer and the Menendez Brothers. Sons of Anarchy‘s Charlie Hunnam will star as Gein and Laurie Metcalf will portray his mother, with whom Gein shared a strangely close relationship. Rae is billed as playing Evelyn Hartley, a teen girl who went missing in 1953.
