India’s Pilates pioneer Yasmin Karachiwala on Ozempic, Mounjaro boom: ‘It’s sad people are finding the quick fix’

In India, which has the world’s third-largest number of overweight adults and over 77 million people with Type 2 diabetes, weight-loss drugs are on a boom. Mounjaro, a tirzepatide marketed by American drugmaker Eli Lilly, reportedly became the second-highest selling drug in India in six months. And doctors, mostly endocrinologists, are flooded with queries about weight loss through GLP-1 medications. It’s a trend that worries India’s Pilates pioneer Yasmin Karachiwala, who has over three decades of experience in the wellness world. A celebrity fitness trainer to a brigade of Bollywood stars, she says people must be wary of the likely side effects, including muscle loss.

Celebrity fitness trainer Yasmin Karachiwala says weight-loss drugs are not a one-size-fits-all solution to lose weight.

In an exclusive interview with Health Shots, when Yasmin Karachiwala was asked if she is worried about the popularity of weight-loss drugs, she says: “Yes, it is really sad because people are finding the quick fix, which always happens when something new comes in. In the last 30 years, I’ve seen a lot of quick fix coming in, and people justify it.”

One of the weight-loss drugs, semaglutide, developed by Danish company Novo Nordisk, is available as Rybelsus (oral) and Wegovy (injectable). Its version Ozempic is approved in India for diabetes management but not yet for obesity. The other, tirzepatide, produced by Eli Lilly and sold as Mounjaro, is officially meant for diabetes but is now widely used off-label for weight loss in India.

Both these work differently. Ozempic is a GLP-1 drug, which means glucagon-like peptide-1. In layman terms, it mimics the natural GLP-1 hormone which supports regulation of blood sugar and appetite. Mounjaro has a dual mechanism with GLP-1 and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) to regulate blood sugar.

According to Yasmin Karachiwala, “The injectables are really good for people with diabetes and people who are overweight, may have tried everything but still can’t lose weight and it’s affecting their health. For them to lose weight, it’s either this (the weight-loss drugs) or going through bariatric surgery, depending on what their doctor suggests.”

“I’m no person to judge, but I feel like a lot of people who want to lose five kgs and think they’re overweight, are taking the aid of injectables. This is not something that I would recommend anyone to do because what they’re not realising is that it’s making them lose muscle mass,” adds Karachiwala, whose celebrity clients include the likes of Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif, Kriti Sanon and Ananya Panday.

As a fitness expert, she can vouch that muscle is really difficult to put on.

“It is very easy to put on fat, but it is very difficult to put on muscle. And if you don’t have enough muscle as you grow older, you’re going to lose bone density. The thing that protects our bones is our muscle! So, if you’ve lost the muscle, you’ve lost the bones, you’re heading for osteoporosis,” she warns.

Instead, she recommends a combination of weight training, increase in protein intake through diet and hydration.

Yasmin Karachiwala spoke to Health Shots during the launch of her Yasmin Karachiwala Body Image (YKBI) studio in New Delhi.

Talking about how a lot of people only join a gym or fitness class when they feel unfit or self-conscious, she says: “When I coined the word body image for my studio, I wanted everyone to have a great body image. Whatever your body image is, fitness has nothing to do with the body, right? Because they say thin is not fit and fat is fit sometimes. I want people to think about how they wake up in the morning. What is the level of fatigue they feel during a day? Are they stressed, are they tired at the end of the day? Do they wake up with a spring in their step? For me, these are the things that translate into your body image. You need to have a very positive image about yourself and you can conquer the world.”

EXCLUSIVE: There’s change within Fox’s unscripted ranks.

Deadline understands that Fox Entertainment EVP, Unscripted Yasmin Rawji is leaving the company. Rawji was considered a rising star at the network with a number of promotions in her eight-year tenure. She is expected to remain in the role through the end of January.

She joined the company in 2017 as Director of Alternative Programming. She was promoted to VP the following year and SVP in 2021. When Allison Wallach, who now oversees global unscripted programming for Fox Entertainment Studios, landed the top unscripted job at the network in December 2022 after former alternative chief Rob Wade was named CEO, Rawji was promoted again to EVP.

Fox restructured its teams in March last year with Michael Thorn becoming President of Fox Television Network, overseeing unscripted television in addition to scripted with Rawji reporting to Thorn.

She was responsible for the development and production of Fox’s reality slate and has also worked with the Fox Alternative Entertainment studio on its International Unscripted Format Fund to identify IP for the global market.

She has worked on The Masked Singer, which is heading into Season 14 in January, as well as Next Level Chef, which has been renewed through Season 6, Special Forces: The World’s Toughest Test, Crime Scene Kitchen, Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer, Name That Tune, Farmer Wants A Wife and Stars on Mars.

Rawji has also been involved in Gordon Ramsay’s MasterChef, MasterChef Jr. and 24 Hours To Hell and Back.

Before joining Fox, Rawji was a senior producer on Dancing with the Stars, when Fox chief Wade was showrunner, and America’s Got Talent.

“It’s never easy to step away from a job you truly love, especially when the team is as fun, talented and dynamic as Fox,” said Rawji. “Working with Rob Wade and Michael Thorn has been a real privilege, and I’ve been lucky to collaborate with such a smart, creative team. And while choosing to step away is bittersweet, I’m excited to carry everything I’ve done here into what comes next.”

“For eight years, Yasmin has been an invaluable member of the Fox family, an accomplished executive whose creative instincts have elevated everything she’s touched,” added Michael Thorn. “Yasmin has been a driving force behind many of our biggest unscripted hits and she will be deeply missed.”

Yasmin Williams Says Organized Republican Group Heckled Her at Kennedy Center

by jummy84 September 26, 2025

Last week, on September 18, Yasmin Williams performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Despite having previously had a heated email exchange with Kennedy Center president Richard Grenell, Williams said that she felt it was important to play “the show for all the Kennedy Center staff who formed their own union and are still working there, fighting to maintain the institution’s integrity.”

During the concert, which took place at the Washington, D.C., center’s Millennium Stage, Williams was heckled by an organized group of Log Cabin Republicans, she said online. “During my Kennedy Center show on Thursday night, a group of Tr*mp supporters boo’d me when I mentioned Ric Grenell and seemed to be there to intimidate me,” Williams wrote on social media. She also shared screenshots of an apparent email sent out by Andrew Minik, the president of the group’s Washington, D.C., chapter, imploring members to “make sure the audience is filled with patriots!”

During her show, which is available to watch in full below, Williams reiterated her support for Kennedy Center staff and criticized the organization’s board of trustees, a group that was put together by President Donald J. Trump after he made himself the center’s new chairman.

“I do not support the new board at all; I don’t support anyone affiliated with them; I don’t support anyone affiliated with the Trump administration at all—especially you, Ric Grenell,” Williams said. “I am not a fan of yours at all.” Applause and boos can be heard in the video, too.

After the show, Williams wrote on social media that her “safety was threatened” and that security “escorted [her] to [her] car to keep [her] safe.” She also told Washingtonian about the apparent hecklers. “They booed and heckled me,” she said. “They tried to derail my concert, but fortunately they were outnumbered.”

In an email to The Washington Post, Kennedy Center spokesperson Roma Daravi disputed Williams’ claims about the organized efforts to disrupt her performance. “This is an absolutely ridiculous claim,” Daravi wrote. “There was no coordinated effort by the Kennedy Center. Grenell had no involvement. We did not even know they were coming.”

Daravi also claimed that Log Cabin Republican members “did not heckle and frankly it is defamation of character for her [Yasmin Williams] to say that—she however bashed Grenell and the Center from the Kennedy Center stage. Republicans are patrons too and they are welcome at the Kennedy Center just like anyone else.”

Industry season 4 teased by Marisa Abela as she promises a very different Yasmin

Filming has now been completed on the upcoming fourth season of Industry, and Yasmin star Marisa Abela has teased what fans can expect from her character.

At the end of season 3, Yasmin was no longer working in the financial sector, and had agreed to marry British aristocrat Sir Henry Muck, played by Kit Harington.

Now, speaking with Radio Times magazine for View From My Sofa, Abela teased season 4 and how it differs from previous instalments of the HBO/BBC drama.

“There are new characters, so it was really fun to work with those new people,” she said. “I also think it’s safe to say that Yasmin is at a different place in her life. You met Yasmin when she was an intern, carrying salads, and now she’s in a very different place.

“The journey that she’s had, she’s grown up a lot. I think I’m playing the most grown version of Yasmin this season, and that’s quite interesting.”

New stars joining Industry season 4 include Max Minghella, Kiernan Shipka, Jack Farthing, Toheeb Jimoh, Amy James-Kelly, Kal Penn, Charlie Heaton and Claire Forlani.

Meanwhile, one original character who won’t be seen in season 4 is Harry Lawtey’s Robert Spearing, with Lawtey having left the show due to scheduling conflicts.

Abela can now be heard starring in Audible’s new full-cast audio version of Pride and Prejudice, alongside Harris Dickinson as Mr Darcy.

Other cast members include Will Poulter as Mr Wickham, Jessie Buckley as Caroline Bingley, Glenn Close as Lady Catherine de Bourgh and Abela’s new Industry co-star Toheeb Jimoh as Mr Bingley.

Industry seasons 1-3 are available to watch on BBC iPlayer now. Pride and Prejudice is available to purchase and listen to now at www.audible.co.uk.

Yasmin Williams Shares Statement on Decision to Perform at Trump-Led Kennedy Center

by jummy84 September 9, 2025
written by jummy84

Last week, Yasmin Williams announced a free show at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC on September 18. Now the Virginian composer and guitarist—who posted screenshots of a heated email exchange with Kennedy Center president Richard Grenell in April, and later elaborated on the experience in an interview with Pitchfork—has shared a statement explaining her decision.

According to Williams, her upcoming performance was planned prior to President Donald J. Trump’s overhaul of the Kennedy Center board of trustees. “I’m doing the show for all the Kennedy Center staff who formed their own union and are still working there, fighting to maintain the institution’s integrity,” she wrote on Instagram. “I’m doing it for the folks who were unjustifiably fired. I’m doing it for the elderly ushers who were told to not wear masks publicly while working, even facing backlash from higher ups if they wore one.” Read Williams’ full message below.

In February, President Trump was elected chairman of the Kennedy Center. He named Grenell as interim executive director and dismissed all 18 Democratic appointees from the traditionally bipartisan board of trustees. This led Ben Folds to step down from his role as artistic advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra. Dozens of artists, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Rhiannon Giddens, and Issa Rae, subsequently cancelled their scheduled performances.

Williams emailed Grenell directly to inquire whether the Kennedy Center’s “hiring practices, performance booking, and staffing” would be meaningfully impacted following the shakeup. In the ensuing back-and-forth, Grenell accused artists of cancelling shows “because they couldn’t be in the presence of republicans.” “I remember saying that I didn’t think that was the right thing to do,” Williams told Pitchfork at the time. “I thought that artists should continue to play there, mainly because I know a lot of people who work there and their incomes were being really, really negatively impacted from artists canceling shows.”

Williams shared her latest album, Acadia, in 2024. Last month, President Trump announced the first class of Kennedy Center honorees since he took over as chair. Gloria Gaynor, Kiss, George Strait, Sylvester Stallone, and British actor Michael Crawford will be recognized at the annual Kennedy Center Honors ceremony in December.

Yasmin Williams:

I recently announced that I’m playing at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage on September 18th. Some folks seem confused with this decision, so I’ll explain why I decided to go through with the show.
