Exclusive! Shaggy: The craziest driving I’ve seen in the world is in India

by jummy84 December 7, 2025
written by jummy84

Jamaican- American, raggae- dancehall star, Shaggy recently released his song Boom Body with Akon and Aidonia. Shaggy who began his career in the 90s, speaking about what connects him to the young audience says, “I keep my finger on the pulse of things. Music is my only job. I’m not interested in many other things. I may dabble into things here and there but I like what music represents to culture. Part of staying cool and fresh comes from the cultural shift that music crates.”

Shaggy/ Parsons, 9122 Records

Shaggy has been touring India since the 90s, “From the time Mumbai was Bombay,” he says. He adds, “The food is always a big part of my visits, I’ve had some of the best curries in the world. I’ve always had a great time in India. The big part has been going to Indian weddings, I’ve performed at quite a few. You guys have some of the most elaborate weddings I’ve seen but the crazy part is getting to the wedding. I’ve never seen traffic like that while going to weddings and I don’t know how there aren’t accidents. The craziest driving I’ve seen in the world is in India, no country in the world can top that.”

Shaggy recounts that his son Robb Banks was recently in India as part of the lineup at Rolling Loud that made its debut in Navi Mumbai’s Kharghar. He says, “He put on the long shirt that males wear (kurta). He wore it on stage and rocked it. He really indulged in the country’s culture and I love that about him. He’s always doing crazy stuff.”

Shaggy says being an independent artiste, he may not have massive budgets but it also has its own advantages. He says, “Being an independent artiste I can move at my own pace. Some artistes get caught in their own legacy, where they are scared to put out music based on what they have done before. Im the opposite. You look at any huge artiste and they have more flops than hits but noone is remembered for their flops. The minute you give a hit it erases every flop you’ve had.”

Though he has sucessfully stayed relevant over several decades, Shaggy adds that he has no illusions about creating a legacy. “My kids dont know who Michael Jackson or Elvis Presley is. They may know Bob Marley, being Jamaican that’s part of the culture but eventually everything fades.” He adds that rather than following trends he has always focused on creating songs that the local DJ can play and ensure people have a good time dancing.

Moving on to his next album Lottery, he says, “It comes out in March. Expect songs with Robin Thicke, Anthony Hamilton, Sting and many other artistes.” He adds that collaborations with artistes like Akon only takes them one listen to know which track will be a banger.

The Largest Wedding in Iraq, Designed by Hollywood Event Designer Adam Afara… A Royal Night Celebrating Ali & Ghaliya at the World Heart Hotel

by jummy84 November 27, 2025
written by jummy84

In a scene reminiscent of fairytale legends, international event designer Adam Afara orchestrated one of the most extravagant weddings ever held in Iraq. The spectacular celebration of newlyweds Ali and Ghaliya took place at the World Heart Hotel, attended by prominent figures from the worlds of entertainment, fashion, and society.

This majestic wedding united Adam Afara’s creative signature with the designs of renowned couturier Zuhair Murad, and unforgettable performances by stars Melhem Zein and Hussam Al-Rassam—transforming the event into a lavish royal showcase rather than a traditional ceremony.

After months of meticulous planning, Adam Afara’s team brought to life a fully integrated vision featuring custom-made décor sourced from six different countries, and more than 40,000 fresh flowers adorning the ceiling and the entire ballroom—turning the venue into a suspended celestial garden.

The bride’s gown, designed by Zuhair Murad – Couture, embodied the elegance of a modern princess and perfectly complemented the wedding’s regal identity.

Even the finest details reflected exceptional craftsmanship:

  • The invitation card was inspired by a royal palace gate, harmonizing with the stage décor and ballroom aesthetics.
  • Two exclusive luxury fragrances were created as personalized gifts for the bride and groom, each bearing their names.
  • Custom-tailored table linens were designed specifically for the wedding to match the floral palette and lighting design.
  • A bespoke song performed by Melhem Zein added a personal touch, narrating the couple’s love story.

One of the evening’s biggest highlights was what Adam Afara unveiled as the largest wedding cake in Iraq—a grand royal palace–themed masterpiece, measuring 180 cm in diameter and 3 meters in height, adorned with fresh flowers, angels, and spiral staircases. The cake became a stunning visual centerpiece in the heart of the ballroom.

With this royal wedding, Adam Afara adds yet another milestone to his international portfolio as a Hollywood celebrity event designer, reaffirming his ability to transform a once-in-a-lifetime celebration into an unforgettable visual and emotional experience.

2009 feels like a whole other world away

The xx have today (November 19) released a deluxe version of their classic debut album with bonus tracks and covers. Check out all the information below.

The band took to Instagram to share the news that the deluxe edition was available to listen to today. A special deluxe vinyl version of the album is also available to pre-order here for release on December 5.

The band’s debut album ‘xx’ was released in 2009 to much critical acclaim, including a four star review from NME. We wrote: “The contrast between the reverberating spaces of their stripped-back sound and the almost insular intimacy of the soft, smoky duets is totally delicious…For the most part it seems like the space The XX have made for themselves is infinite.” The album later went on to win the Mercury Prize in 2010.

In a statement on Instagram about the new edition, the band wrote: “Today we’re releasing a deluxe version of our debut album, featuring some xx bonus tracks and covers, which is available to stream now. We also have a very special xx (Deluxe) Vinyl which is available to pre-order now and out on the 5th December.”

The Deluxe Edition bonus tracks include ‘Teardrops’ (Womack & Womack cover) ‘Do You Mind’ (Kyla cover), ‘Hot Like Fire’ (Aaliyah cover) as well as tracks ‘Insects’ and ‘Blood Red Moon.’

They added: “Going back to 2009 has brought up so many memories – it really does feel like another world. This album means a lot to us, and we hope it still means something to you too. Thank you for being here, always.”

Listen to the deluxe edition of the album here:

In a note to fans who’d signed up to their mailing list, the band also shared a handwritten note, which read: “Hello! It’s been a while, how are you? As many of you have been here since the very beginning, we wanted to let you know here first that we a releasing a deluxe edition of our debut album…2009 feels like a whole other world away, and it’s been amazing looking back on all the memories from that time.

“This album means a lot to us and we hope it does to you too. Thank you for your support, always.”

The xx are currently working on new music together. Their last album was 2017’s ‘I See You’, but they were pictured in the studio together in March this year, months after Jamie said they were “having a good time” working on things.

In September, they shared rehearsal footage, and they’ve also been announced to play a run of festivals next year including Coachella, Primavera Sound and Open’er.

Last year, the band’s Romy teamed up with Jamie xx and Oliver Sim, her bandmates in The xx, on the former’s single ‘Waited All Night’, which they performed on stage together in June during Jamie’s LIDO Festival headline set.

Earlier this month, Romy shared her touching new single, ‘Love Who You Love’. The singer described it as a “proudly queer love song”, while noting that it also served as a closing chapter to her 2023 debut solo album ‘Mid Air’. Romy said the song has been “in her care” since 2020.

Earlier this year, Romy released an EP, ‘Mid Air (Transcendence Remixes)’ EP which featured reworked tracks from the album of the same name. And last year, she shared a range of standalone singles including high-profile collaborations with Sampha and Jessie Ware.

5 Singers Who Have Performed Globally And Taken Indian Culture To The World Stage

by jummy84 November 16, 2025
written by jummy84

As Indian music continues to resonate across continents, a new wave of singers is redefining how the world experiences our culture. They’re blending folk with pop, classical with R&B, Punjabi soul with global beats — proving that Indian music isn’t just a genre, it’s a feeling. These performers are not only touring international arenas but also sparking conversations of identity, heritage, and artistic pride. Here are five artists who are taking Indian music to global stages, loudly, proudly, and unapologetically.

5 Singers Who Have Performed Globally And Taken Indian Culture To The World Stage

Diljit Dosanjh – The Global Punjabi Phenomenon

Diljit Dosanjh has become nothing short of a cultural force. From selling out stadiums worldwide to becoming the first Punjabi artist to perform at Coachella, he has taken Punjabi music to audiences far beyond India’s borders. His live performances are celebrations of language, roots, and cultural pride, reminding the world that Punjabi music has both emotional depth and undeniable swagger, as heard in “Born To Shine,” which blends Punjabi folk character with contemporary pop attitude.

Sid Sriram – The Soul Of South Indian Pop

With a voice that melts Carnatic tradition into contemporary soul, Sid Sriram is a bridge between worlds. Raised in the U.S. but deeply connected to his South Indian heritage, his global tours and collaborations showcase how seamlessly Indian classical elements can sit beside R&B, indie, and electronic sounds. Sid is not just performing music; he’s carrying memory, language, and emotion into every performance, connecting listeners across cultures, a quality beautifully evident in “Srivalli,” where his folk-rooted phrasing meets modern melodic sensibility.

Lekka – A Pop Voice Rising Across Borders

Lekka has rapidly emerged as one of Indian pop’s most dynamic voices. With a sleek sonic identity that blends global pop energy with a distinctly Indian confidence, she’s redefining what it means to be a homegrown international artist. Her singles “Kingpin,” “Kaabil-E-Tareef,” and “YOLO,” along with her 2025 debut EP ‘One in a Billion’ featuring tracks like “Haseena,” “Wet Dream,” and “Light Another One,” showcase her fearless experimentation and performance-forward aesthetic. Representing a new generation of Indian artists unafraid to sound global yet rooted in their cultural rhythm. With her seamless blend of Indian essence and global pop appeal, she continues to redefine what it means to be an Indian artist on the world stage.

Hanumankind – The Indie Artist Reimagining Indian Musical Identity

Hanumankind represents a new wave of indie experimentation rooted in Indian storytelling. His music, modern, conceptual, and atmospheric, blends Indian cultural references with global production practices. Performing on international stages and streaming across borders, he’s proving that Indian artists don’t have to fit into Bollywood or folk stereotypes to be authentically Indian. His sound is global, but his voice is unmistakably rooted in home, something that comes through in “Big Dawgs” and “Run It Up”, where emotional nostalgia merges with contemporary production.

Jasmine Sandlas – Punjabi Singer With Raw Energy And A Bold, Redefining Voice

Jasmine Sandlas is one of India’s most dynamic and fearless voices, known for her raw energy, unapologetic style, and powerful high-pitch vocals that electrify every stage she steps on. Her latest album Legal Robbery captures her signature blend of bold lyricism and infectious beats, proving once again why she’s a force in Punjabi music. Whether it’s the fire of “Pols”, the swagger of “Taras”, the intoxication of “Nasha”, or the intensity of “Dhurandhar”, Jasmine delivers each track with unmatched attitude and emotion. Her performances are more than shows.

DP World Tour Championship 2025 on TV: Channel, schedule and live stream

Rory McIlroy and Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen are currently tied at the top of the leaderboard for the DP World Tour Championship 2025, with just one final round left to play.

If McIlroy wins, it will be his fourth consecutive Road to Dubai title, and seventh in total, at the final tournament of the 2025 European Tour season.

A 767-point lead at the top of the season-long rankings means McIlroy headed into the DP World Tour Championship in the driving seat and, bar a disaster, will once again finish the year top of the pile.

The Masters champion will have fond memories of the Earth Course, having won this event by two shots last year, and is looking to cap off a remarkable year in fitting style.

A $10 million total prize fund, the biggest of the season on the European Tour, and the opportunity to surge up the Road for Dubai standings at the season-ending tournament means the whole of the field have plenty to play for.

RadioTimes.com brings you all the details about how to watch the DP World Tour Championship 2025.

Directors Mira Nair and Bijoy Shetty on Changing How the World Sees India

by jummy84 November 15, 2025
written by jummy84

When Nair and Shetty meet over Zoom for a conversation with Vogue, they exchange notes about each other’s work and discuss the tug-of-war between authenticity and representation. Most of all, they talk about resisting the pressure to flatten identities into marketable tropes. For both filmmakers, the challenge and the joy are the same: to show India as it is—in all its messy, irresistible complexity.

Vogue: Mira, you’ve often said that you’re an Indian filmmaker at home in the world. Your films have helped change how the world sees India and its diaspora. Bijoy, your music videos, particularly your recent work with Hanumankind, are strongly rooted in Indian culture. How important is the idea of representation in your work?

Mira Nair: I am not into being an ambassador and saying my country is so wonderful, so rich. I don’t approach filmmaking like a Benetton ad. The point is to plunge into the layers of life in front of you and extricate the humanity that is local to that place, and to do it in a way that is so truthful that it becomes universal. The point is that we’re not islands among ourselves; we are actually all utterly human. That said, as an Indian filmmaker living in New York, then in East Africa, I was always in these places where I was a novelty, where I may have been forced to explain myself. But I grew up with a kind of fierceness—I’m not going to justify myself or give you lessons on my bindi. I refuse to let people who haven’t lived in our streets take our culture and bugger it up.

Bijoy Shetty: Sadly, colonization is in our DNA, where we assume that Western culture is the superior one. But in all honesty, I’ve benefited from that perception. With “Big Dawgs,” a lot of the reaction was because they never thought that an Indian could rap like this. It’s not like this tremendous video with high production value. It’s just the shock of it being an Indian rapper and an Indian music video that has taken it wherever it’s gone. But once that novelty wears off, does your work have a strong enough identity to keep the viewer’s attention? That’s what really matters.

Mira, you’ve spoken about how your primary influence is the street, whether it’s where your stories come from or your tendency to cast non-actors in your films. Bijoy, hip-hop was born on the streets of the Bronx. Can you talk about what the street means to you as a character, and how you look to it for inspiration?

Watch: Stunning 3D Animated Short ‘On the 8th Day’ About Our World

by Alex Billington

“It took 7 days to create the world, it only took one to disrupt its balance.” And let’s be honest – it’s all our fault. This mesmerizing animated short film is entirely worth a watch, especially if you love this planet and all the plants & animals on it. On the 8th Day is an 8 minute animated short film created by 5 students at the acclaimed Piktura animation school in France. The original French title is Au 8ème Jour and it was finished in 2023 – but it has been playing at film festivals and other events around the world for the pat 2 years. Now it’s online for everyone to enjoy thanks to Short of the Week. This is created with 3D animation but it has the same look & style of stop-motion animation, specifically felt & cloth & yarn animation usually made by hand. The short is an eco fable visualizing our interconnected world and the link between all living creatures on planet Earth. The pieces of yarn connect everything and everyone. Until darkness starts taking over… It’s a beautiful creation and the animals are so cute. Bravo to the team for crafting this stunning film.

On the 8th Day Short Film Poster

Thanks to Short of the Week for the tip on this one. Intro via YouTube: “It took 7 days to create the world, it only took one to disrupt its balance. This award-winning 3D animation mimics hand-crafted stop-motion to tell an environmentalist parable about the interconnectedness of all life. What elevates it is the remarkable polish of its execution, the genuine emotion it stirs, and an apocalyptic sense of scale and foreboding that feels attuned to the current moment.” On the 8th Day is an animated short film created by students at the acclaimed Piktura animation school based in Roubaix, France. You can find out more about the school on their official site. This was made by Agathe Sénéchal, Alicia Massez, Elise Debruyne, Flavie Carin, Théo Duhautois. Originally completed in 2023. Produced by Carlos De Carvalho. With original music by Thomas Peyrounette with Adèle Chavy on the violin. View the making of video here. For info on the film, visit SOTW or the film’s main page. adidas x FIFA World Cup Collection

This year, we saw a crossover between fashion and sports like never before. Our very own editor, Eliza Huber, even launched Who What Wear’s Go Sports vertical, cementing our role as both style and sports stans. Living in New York City, I can’t go a few blocks without seeing someone wearing a fashionable outfit complete with their favorite team’s merch. Classically, this has been a baseball cap or T-shirt, but I’m really excited to see outfits styled with jerseys from the FIFA x adidas collection. With authentic home jerseys, baseball caps, and even the official World Cup soccer ball, this new collection has been flying off the shelves. Whether you’re rooting for Argentina, Mexico, Japan—the list goes on—gear up for the FIFA World Cup 26™ with the picks below.

‘A Different World’ Sequel Snags Netflix Series Order

Hillman College will enroll a new class of students with Netflix’s pickup of a sequel series to A Different World.

The streamer has given a series order to the comedy, which has been in the works for more than a year (and included a very rare pilot order from Netflix). The show will star Tony Award winner Maleah Joi Moon (Hell’s Kitchen on Broadway) as Deborah, the youngest daughter of original series leads Whitley (Jasmine Guy) and Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison), who enrolls at the HBCU her parents attended.

Felicia Pride (Bel-Air, Grey’s Anatomy) is the showrunner on A Different World. Several alumni of the 1987-93 NBC series join Pride as executive producers, including Debbie Allen, Reggie Rock Bythewood, Gina Prince-Bythewood and Tom Werner; Mandy Summers also exec produces. Allen, who directed the majority of the original show’s episodes, will helm the series premiere and two more episodes in the sequel’s first season.

“It is such an honor to be a part of bringing back this iconic show, one that I grew up on and which had a profound impact on my life,” Pride said in a statement. “I am so proud of the work we’re doing to reimagine A Different World for beloved fans and new generations alike.”

A Different World was a spinoff of The Cosby Show that followed Denise Huxtable (Lisa Bonet) to college. Bonet left the show after its first season, and the show retooled around a larger ensemble that featured Guy, Hardison, Dawnn Lewis, Darryl M. Bell, Cree Summer, Charnele Brown, Glynn Turman, Sinbad and Lou Myers. Bill Cosby is credited as the creator of the original series, but he is not involved in the sequel.

The logline for the sequel reads, “The series follows Deborah as she enters her freshman year at her parents’ HBCU alma mater and finds their shadow difficult to escape. She sets out to build her own legacy — while having the time of her life — alongside a whole new generation of Hillman’s best and brightest.

Alijah Kai, Chibuikem Uche, Cornell Young IV, Jordan Aaron Hall and Kennedi Reece will star alongside Moon in the new series.

“A Different World changed everything for us,” said the Bythewoods in a statement. “It was where we got our start as writers and where we found each other. This show has always been a part of our love story. To return to Hillman now and help reimagine this world for a new generation feels like a continuation of that legacy — one rooted in love, purpose, and possibility.”

Moon is repped by Buchwald, Authentic Talent & Literary Management, Strig Artist Management and Jill Fritzo PR. Kai is with IAG and Holland and Knight.
